- [15:08] Simon Linden: I did a check this morning, and there were 28 regions left on 1.38 ... looks like a few servers didn't get switched

- [15:13] Kitto Flora: Only the bugs reported already
- [15:13] Oskar Linden: monty identified the largest crashers and got fixes in place for 1.42 already right monty?
- [15:13] Latif Khalifa: what's the ETA on 1.42?
- [15:13] Monty Linden: yep
- [15:13] Monty Linden: part of my make-work-for-simon strategy
- [15:13] Moon Metty: i think avatar-object colisions start a little later, when the object is newly rezzed
- [15:13] Oskar Linden: 1.42 could be just a couple more weeks
- [15:14] Monty Linden: crash rate is equal to a bit better than 1.38.6
- [15:14] Simon Linden: The 1.42 version here isn't complete, there are a few more things to merge together
- [15:14] Monty Linden: we *should* be able to make significant progress there over the next few versions
- [15:14] Latif Khalifa: is eager to see 1.42 deployed so I don't get that many bot related emails ;)

- [15:16] Oskar Linden: I'll message the group with some http texture enabled regions this week for verification testing

- [15:20] Oskar Linden: so once we have a few regions up here I'll message it out and you guys can poke at them this weekend
- [15:20] Maestro Linden: Hm.. guess I can ask Merov if he's sure about it not being supported for general textures, heh.

- [15:21] Simon Linden: yes, 1.42 has the threaded crossing parsing
- [15:21] Kitto Flora: I dont see an H7 bug fixes in 1.42 here
- [15:21] Simon Linden: but we have to make sure it's turned on

- [15:22] SHAMUS Carter: time will tell
- [15:22] Simon Linden: It should reduce the lag others see when someone crosses or TPs into a region

- [15:22] Kaluura Boa: Are there at least 2 regions on 1.42 so we can test?

- [15:22] Simon Linden: It's not a cure-all, however, as the mono script lag is still there
- [15:22] Moy Loon: What about when avs leave the sim?

- [15:22] Simon Linden: Let me check the switches, I suspect it's turned off on this grid right now...
- [15:22] SHAMUS Carter: yes the mono fix is despertly needed
- [15:23] SHAMUS Carter: whats the status on the moni update
- [15:23] Simon Linden: That's in the works, I think it will be in 1.44 but am not certain
- [15:23] Moon Metty: it has always been hard to test these things on aditi
- [15:24] Maestro Linden: Kaluura: most of the regions on aditi are 1.42 (looks to be just over 100 regions)
- [15:24] Moon Metty: low traffic, many region restarts ...
- [15:24] Kaluura Boa: Good to know... I wasn't sure
- [15:25] Oskar Linden: I'll get the official release notes out as soon as I can
- [15:25] Oskar Linden: there will be a new 1.42.0 coming out once maestro gets the last code merge tested
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: we might be able to try an early pilot roll to agni
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: I'll be sure to let each of you know
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: shouldn't be too much to worry about in this release

- [15:27] Lestat Demain: most of the bugs get noticed in the sandboxes so i thought would be logical place to try

- [15:27] Latif Khalifa: yeah, get the big sandboxes on the pilot if they're not
- [15:28] Latif Khalifa: btw. i noticed some regions on agni still running 1.38

- [15:31] Liisa Runo: i have full prim AV that has not only script in every prim, but a listen in every prim :P

- [15:32] Oskar Linden: a woman kept rezzing and taking a large wig into inv
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: somehow it got stuck
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: wasn't rezzed or in inv
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: but it was selected and counting against her parcel limits
- [15:32] Moy Loon: Yeah, that's pretty common
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: we were able to fix it
- [15:32] Kitto Flora: 'lost on take' ?
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: but couldn't determine how it got into that state exactly
- [15:32] Rex Cronon: u "fixed" the wig. haha
- [15:32] Moy Loon: It happens when you can't delete/take it, because it failing to save to the asset server :o
- [15:33] Kitto Flora: Used to get a few of them a month
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: if anyone sees anything like that and can repro it I'd like to see it
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: hmm
- [15:33] Moy Loon: It's commonly called 'ghosted' prims, usualy you just restart a sim to get rid of them
- [15:33] Kitto Flora: Then it was at 1 a month
- [15:33] Lestat Demain: asset is not in database :P
- [15:33] Moy Loon: However you can god delete them if you know the key of the object
- [15:33] Maestro Linden: but usually in that case, it should return the object inworld
- [15:33] Moy Loon: It should, but doesn't =p
- [15:33] Kitto Flora: Now is been one every few months, but there were 2 cases recently
- [15:33] Moy Loon: It usualy always happens when there's asset issues though
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: so the ghosted prims are always counting against the selected/sat upon number?
- [15:34] Moy Loon: If there's say, 200 pending uploads, and it only does 30 of them, then the 170 would return back to the sim
- [15:34] Moy Loon: But if it really does fail, and not time out, it would be in that 'ghosted' state
- [15:34] Liisa Runo: for long time already, i have always taken a copy of the build, then when i see it in inventory i set the build temp. instead of normally taking the build
- [15:34] Rex Cronon: sadly sometimes u can't see them, nor can u select them:(
- [15:35] Kitto Flora: Engines that have been 'lost on take' have totally vanished
- [15:35] Oskar Linden: anyway, if you find a way to reliably put an object into that state let me know
- [15:35] Kitto Flora: The 'take and it ghosts' I have not ween i na while
- [15:35] Moon Metty: it always happens when the assetserver is sluggish
- [15:35] Moon Metty: like yesterday
- [15:36] Moon Metty: i noticed it took a long time to add objects to another objet's inventory
- [15:36] Kitto Flora: Fortunatly is not 'reliable' if it was there wound be a riot
- [15:36] Oskar Linden: so that brings us to TCMalloc
- [15:36] Oskar Linden: TCMalloc has been something we've worked on for a while but not had the qa cycles to get deployed
- [15:36] Oskar Linden: we still really don't have the QA cycles to get it deployed
- [15:37] Oskar Linden: so... we could use your help
- [15:37] Oskar Linden: it falls squarely in the performance category of simulators

- [15:38] Oskar Linden: I'm looking for two things, I want to make sure nothing new is broken

- [15:38] Moy Loon: I was going to random sims, and I found a few TC malloc sims that are running a super old 1.34's
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: there are 2 class 5's and 2 class 7's
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: it's all outlined in that wiki
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: a few private regions are tcmalloc as well
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: but I wasn't a part of setting those up
- [15:39] Kitto Flora: Any way to tell if a reagion has TCMalloc?
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: any questions about tcmalloc I can probably get answered

- [15:40] Oskar Linden: those regions have tcmalloc enabled

- [15:40] Oskar Linden: because they are private
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: I guess you could go to the public one
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: then pull the server version number
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: then run around the grid and look for amtching numbers

- [15:41] Oskar Linden: but I'm not sure why that would help\
- [15:41] Kitto Flora: So I can find out if it on Jaxx* regions
- [15:42] Oskar Linden: the regions on it were asked to be on it
- [15:42] Oskar Linden: jaxx is not
- [15:42] Kitto Flora: if it turns out it on Jaxx I cant compare with the TCM... test regions

- [15:42] Oskar Linden: do you want jaxx on it?
- [15:43] Kitto Flora: What kind of operateions is TCMalloc likely to change?
- [15:43] Oskar Linden: should be 100% transparent
- [15:43] Oskar Linden: perhaps monty or simon can give a more technical explanation
- [15:43] Kitto Flora: Well if you want us to consider it being 100% transparent, theres no point in testing stuff, is there?

- [15:45] Oskar Linden: I already noticed that I think it takes tcmalloc enabled regions longer to come online
- [15:45] Kitto Flora: Whats its main advantage? Just saving memory?
- [15:45] Monty Linden: what might change: crash rate, rate of memory growth with rezzing/derez/tp/region crossing
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: I'm going to poke at that some more
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: there are perfomance advantages
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: and
- [15:45] Yuu Nakamichi: the wiki says it's mostly about the perftools
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: the ability for us to do live profiling of performance
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: which we don't currently ahve

- [15:45] Rex Cronon: no. we have "things" that stop working at the wrong time that tell us when something is borked:)
