Agenda

  • Welcome to the Server Beta User Group

Updates

  • BlueSteel RC Channel
    • This is the "Refactored Voice Code" project.
    • Both this channel and LeTigre contain the same code.
    • bug fixes
      • Fixed syntax errors
      • Fix voice failure due to missing line in merge . voice channel info was not properly being set, hence it wasn't being passed back to the viewer
      • Fixed some private parcel voice issues
        • Voice dot disappears on entering a private spatial parcel
      • Fixed some calls to the vivox API
  • https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_BlueSteel/11#11.10.21.243647
  • Magnum RC Channel
    • This has the same maint-server with lots of bug fixes.
    • Bug Fixes:
      • SCR-186 Collision detection does not work for some chilren of linked prim set
      • SVC-7251 remove automatic logout of agents that have been Away too long
      • SVC-7260 Phantom, unremovable prims
      • SVC-7297 'excessive instant message' throttle kicks in when it shouldn't
      • SCR-115 State changes considerably slower under Mono-LSL than LSO-LSL
      • SCR-22 "X-SecondLife-Owner-Name" sometimes set to '(waiting)' instead of ownername
      • SVC-7321 llRemoteLoadScriptPin() fails to add O:VMCT script to O:PERM_ALL atchmnt
      • SVC-7294 The simulator is too strict when llGiveInventory() adds restricted-permission items to fullperm attachments which already contained other restricted-permission items
      • SVC-7339 Performance issues on LeTigre 11.09.23.241511 (and Main Channel)
      • SVC-7289 llCastRay() returns RCERR_CAST_TIME_EXCEEDED on small parcels.
      • Fixed various server crash modes.

Upcoming Stuff

  • Fix from Andrew for SVC-5927 : "Temp on Rezzed objects get queued"
    • extra "feedback" which adds extra "sleep" to scripts for each llRezObject() when the physics engine is suffering
    • where "suffering" means that it is actively changing LOD of object shapes, or is "quarantining" objects (pinning in place temporarily)
    • test is to build a lag-generator in one corner of a region (to get sim FPS < 25 because of physics) and then test their machine gun in the opposite corner -- their machine gun should slow down by a factor of 5
    • Code in DRTSIM-107 regions on ADITI.

Interesting Stuff

  • [15:05] Oskar Linden: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Server_Beta_User_Group
  • [15:05] Moundsa Mayo: Ut-oh, we're being doppel-ganged!
  • [15:05] Oskar Linden: first thing I wanted to talk about was https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7140
  • [15:05] Flame of Jira: [#SVC-7140] Scripted HTTP Requests to some URLs fail on some regions https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7140
  • [15:05] Oskar Linden: this is an example of goo dinvestigation work narrowing down the source of a troublesome bug
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: turns out that the bug wasn't in our simulator but in the routing table of an external hosting company
  • [15:06] Coyot Linden: We asked the ISP if they had turned their router off and then on again. :)
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: maestro and ops did some good analysis work and got it figured out
  • [15:06] Marigold Devin: nice result!
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: anytime we can get info that is more than "my scripts are brok you fix it" it helps tremendously
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: :-)
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: moving into updates
  • [15:07] Rex Cronon: AFK...............................
  • [15:07] Rex Cronon: afk
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: main channel got rolled this week with the updated EM Tools project stuff
  • [15:08] Sahkolihaa Contepomi: :o
  • [15:08] lonetorus Habilis: EM?
  • [15:08] Sahkolihaa Contepomi: Estate manager.
  • [15:08] Coyot Linden: Estate Mgmt
  • [15:08] WolfPup Lowenhar: Estate Management
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: there's more in there that will become apparent in the next few weeks tied some upcoming projects that aren't public yet
  • [15:08] Homeless: Empty Message
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: once they are then I can dive into some of the details a little bit more
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: it's good stuff and I can't wait to talk about it
  • [15:09] Flip Idlemind: I haven't done extensive testing or anything, but...I'm an estate manager from for a main channel region, and I can't see the allowed residents list in the region / estate floater. I can add to it...but I can't actually see the list ◯.(⁐)
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: the enhanced EM tools were an extension of some other work
  • [15:09] Flip Idlemind: Could be related
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: hmm
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: that's interesting
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: anyone else seeing or not seeing that?
  • [15:09] Jonathan Yap: seeing what
  • [15:10] Gooden Uggla: isn't that in a project EM viewer?
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: what flip is seeing
  • [15:10] Flip Idlemind: One of the other estate managers can't see it either. Yet, another one of the estate managers can see it fine
  • [15:10] Motor Loon: Could we please have a permission popup (like when objects asks for rights to handle your money) for the EM commands?
  • [15:10] Moundsa Mayo: Hmmm. Maestro Tester just appeared looking like an NPC, possibly checking the routefinding. Might be that stuff.
  • [15:10] Gooden Uggla: allowed residents can be seen by the owner
  • [15:10] Motor Loon: it's potential a security hole for greifers to gain access to banned areas
  • [15:11] Oskar Linden: how is that?
  • [15:11] Motor Loon: how is it a problem?
  • [15:11] Oskar Linden: what is the security hole?
  • [15:12] WolfPup Lowenhar: if they can not get in to a region they are band from they defant;y would not have estate management rights there
  • [15:12] Jonathan Yap: Flip, can you vpn your connection to see if coming from another part of the internet helps see that list?
  • [15:12] Motor Loon: Ok, you are an EM in a large estate... one day a person gives you an object... check out this new chair I made... you're welcome to use it on your sim... you rez it ... its a very nice chair... you like it.. so you leave it on the sim... no big deal... what you dont know is that the guy put a backdoor into the chair... that now allows him to add or remove to the estate banlist.... impossible senario... I think not
  • [15:12] Oskar Linden: i see
  • [15:12] Motor Loon: and you'll never figure out how he does it
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: that's interesting
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: have you verified that works?
  • [15:13] Motor Loon: no, any reason why it should not?
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: if you create a proof of concept and verify it file a SEC- jira and I'll pass it along
  • [15:13] Motor Loon: a scripted object that the EM now owns... why shouldn't it be able to with the current setup
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: i see what you mean
  • [15:14] Gooden Uggla: actually oskar, that would probably work
  • [15:14] Motor Loon: ok, I'll run a SEC jira on it
  • [15:14] Oskar Linden: thanks Motor
  • [15:14] Oskar Linden: way to think like a black hat ;-)
  • [15:14] Coyot Linden: What Motor is describing is just the SL variant of the classic Trojan Horse attack.
  • [15:14] Oskar Linden: right
  • [15:14] Moundsa Mayo: Might need a special notification to EM that rezzed object containes EM functionality.
  • [15:14] Motor Loon: except much easier to perform
  • [15:14] Coyot Linden: naw
  • [15:14] WolfPup Lowenhar: motor loon the 'creator' would have to know the new rezd uuis inorder to send it emails or some thing
  • [15:14] Oskar Linden: but one we should be able to put a notification in for
  • [15:14] Coyot Linden: I send you an attachment in email
  • [15:15] Coyot Linden: you open it
  • [15:15] Coyot Linden: *boom*
  • [15:15] Moundsa Mayo: It could send OUT when rezzed reporting that.
  • [15:15] Moundsa Mayo: Or be listening for rEGIONsAYtO
  • [15:15] Oskar Linden: moving along.
  • [15:15] Motor Loon: many way to do it
  • [15:15] Jonathan Yap: Moundsa, that won't work, as objects can be set to receive new scripts from other sources
  • [15:15] Oskar Linden: BlueSteel and LeTigre again have a combo project
  • [15:15] Oskar Linden: or I mean they both have the same code
  • [15:16] Moundsa Mayo: Huh? Whay won't work?
  • [15:16] lonetorus Habilis: what are the actual function names of these EM tools?
  • [15:16] Oskar Linden: it's in the release notes lonetorus
  • [15:16] Oskar Linden: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Server/11#11.10.18.243270
  • [15:16] Oskar Linden: all the info u need
  • [15:16] Motor Loon: Dont get me wrong, I LOOOVE that you gave us these features... just want them secure °͜°
  • [15:16] Coyot Linden: and then some
  • [15:16] arton Rotaru: llStayAwayFromMyEstate(BAD_ASS)
  • [15:16] Oskar Linden: the refactored voice code is on both BlueSteel and LeTigre
  • [15:16] Coyot Linden: haha
  • [15:17] Marigold Devin: LOLs at arton
  • [15:17] Oskar Linden: but not really much there to talk about
  • [15:17] Oskar Linden: some buf fixes and cleaned up code
  • [15:17] Coyot Linden: cna you hear me now?
  • [15:17] Talia Malaspina: llGetOffMyLawn()
  • [15:17] Moundsa Mayo: Jonathan: i give you Trojan. You rez. It emails me: I'm here now, just got this URL, use me ...
  • [15:17] lonetorus Habilis: buf fixes? ;)
  • [15:17] Oskar Linden: it would be worth watching out for voice related issues while on LT or BS regions
  • [15:17] Oskar Linden: s/buf/bug/g
  • [15:18] arton Rotaru: never used voice
  • [15:18] Coyot Linden: WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!
  • [15:18] Oskar Linden: I have heard some people use it
  • [15:18] arton Rotaru: :p
  • [15:18] Oskar Linden: mostly it's used as a gender verifier
  • [15:18] Oskar Linden: :-D
  • [15:18] Jonathan Yap: Moundsa, the trojan could receive a EM script much later in its lifetime, plus security via email is not very secure
  • [15:18] Coyot Linden: /o\
  • [15:18] Moundsa Mayo: And a Voice Morphing tester.
  • [15:18] RedMokum Bravin: :-)
  • [15:18] lonetorus Habilis: oskar, and thats why ll sells voice morph as a service?
  • [15:18] lonetorus Habilis: ;)
  • [15:19] RedMokum Bravin: voice morph keeps the myth alive
  • [15:19] Oskar Linden: some of those voice morph packs are fun
  • [15:19] Oskar Linden: :-D
  • [15:19] lonetorus Habilis: i wonder how many ppl use that, aswella s the avaline phone service
  • [15:19] Oskar Linden: I really am a 15yo valley girl
  • [15:19] Moundsa Mayo: RemoteLoadScriptPIN requires that source of script be owner of target.
  • [15:19] Gooden Uggla: who works for the circus?
  • [15:20] Oskar Linden: only maestro and coyot know my rl voice
  • [15:20] Coyot Linden: In real life, no one knows I am really a coyotl
  • [15:20] Gooden Uggla: explains the braids :)
  • [15:20] Coyot Linden: haha!!!
  • [15:20] TankMaster FinesmithTankMaster Finesmith recalls seeing oskar's beard :P
  • [15:20] Oskar Linden: I was sold to science as a kid for medical research
  • [15:20] Talia Malaspina: In SL nobody can hear you scream, unless the parcel has voice enabled.
  • [15:20] Oskar Linden: side effect was enhanced facial hair growth
  • [15:21] arton Rotaru: lol
  • [15:21] Oskar Linden: my beard is visible from space
  • [15:21] Oskar Linden: true story
  • [15:21] Marigold Devin: glow in the dark?
  • [15:21] Talia MalaspinaTalia Malaspina eeps.
  • [15:21] Talia Malaspina: Is that what that is??
  • [15:21] Gooden Uggla: so the 2 employment choices were the circus or SL...
  • [15:21] Gooden Uggla: makes sense
  • [15:21] Oskar Linden: more or less
  • [15:22] Homeless: either way you ended up in a circus
  • [15:22] Oskar LindenOskar Linden once won a stupid human tricks contest by lifting a heavy briefcase with his beard
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: true story
  • [15:22] Gooden Uggla: awesome!
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: :-p
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: haha
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: alright alright back on track
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: Magnum
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: Magnum has more of the same
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: and will probably get the promotion next week
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: all sorts of good bug fixes in there
  • [15:23] Flip Idlemind: Those are always good
  • [15:23] Flip Idlemind: I mean, by definition
  • [15:23] arton Rotaru: pls fix SCR-225
  • [15:23] Flame of Jira: [#SCR-225] ERROR: Failed to set physics shape type https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SCR-225
  • [15:23] Vincent Nacon: even vehicle's banking?
  • [15:23] arton Rotaru: banking looks good now vincent
  • [15:23] Oskar Linden: I am also happy to announce that the company is planning on focusing on 'quality' for the next few quarters
  • [15:23] Oskar Linden: instead of fancy new features
  • [15:23] Homeless: nice!
  • [15:24] Flip Idlemind: Fancy new quality
  • [15:24] Oskar Linden: like llAirDropPenguin that will air drop you a pengiun anywhere in the world
  • [15:24] WolfPup Lowenhar: -*@ ROFL @*- flip
  • [15:24] Oskar Linden: llAirDropPenguin is taking a back burner
  • [15:24] RedMokum Bravin: Ouch! that staff you used to carry
  • [15:24] Motor Loon: Oskar. Tojanhorse issue ;--) https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SEC-977
  • [15:24] Oskar Linden: once the increased focus on quality is more defined I will pass that info on to you
  • [15:24] Oskar Linden: thanks motor!
  • [15:25] Coyot Linden: I thought it was llDropKickPenguin
  • [15:25] Oskar Linden: that comes in q4
  • [15:25] RedMokum Bravin: I would love to see unfinished continents finished.
  • [15:25] Oskar Linden: you have to have penguins first
  • [15:25] Coyot Linden: PENGO!
  • [15:25] Homeless: the penguin on TV?
  • [15:25] Coyot Linden: lol
  • [15:25] Sahkolihaa Contepomi: Tux?
  • [15:25] Oskar Linden: maestro you wanted to talk about the upcoming physics stuff?
  • [15:25] Gooden Uggla: is that going to include Qarl's mesh project?
  • [15:26] Gooden Uggla: the "quality" thing
  • [15:26] Oskar Linden: not sure what is all included
  • [15:26] Gooden Uggla: making worn mesh fit the avatar
  • [15:27] Talia MalaspinaTalia Malaspina blows kissies. Bye all. I have to go to the ophthalmologist.
  • [15:27] Vincent Nacon: has he provided a method yet?
  • [15:27] Gooden Uggla: anyways, you were saying?
  • [15:27] arton Rotaru: llAirDropPenguinPhysical()
  • [15:27] Oskar Linden: that would probably fall under new products and not quality of existing services
  • [15:27] Maestro Linden: Oh, so the upcoming physics stuff
  • [15:27] Maestro Linden: it shouldn't break much.
  • [15:27] Marigold Devin: Bye, Talia, hope your eyes look good
  • [15:27] Oskar Linden: cya talia!
  • [15:27] Talia Malaspina: llDoPhysicsStuff(TRUE)
  • [15:27] Oskar Linden: hanks for dancing to my meeting again
  • [15:27] Maestro Linden: but who knows, we didn't forsee arton's vehicle banking bug
  • [15:27] Talia Malaspina: Wheeeeeee!!
  • [15:27] Maestro Linden: which, as it turned out, was a compiler bug
  • [15:28] Gooden UgglaGooden Uggla digs babes with glasses, tats and scars
  • [15:28] arton Rotaru: oops
  • [15:28] Maestro Linden: we upgraded to a newer version of gcc for the havok libraries, which solved the problem
  • [15:28] Maestro Linden: but who knows, there could be other bugs out there
  • [15:29] Maestro Linden: and that physics branch still has llSetKeyframedMotion(), which is more or less ready
  • [15:29] Maestro Linden: you can still find it on the 'DRTSIM-105' channel on Aditi
  • [15:29] Vincent Nacon: Do you think I could bug you with this, Maestro? SVC-7372
  • [15:29] Flame of Jira: [#SVC-7372] Raise limit for VEHICLE_ANGULAR_MOTOR_DIRECTION https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7372
  • [15:29] Maestro Linden: in regions like Kapor
  • [15:29] Maestro Linden: It might be better to bug Falcon about that, Vincent
  • [15:30] Vincent Nacon: a man who rarely comes up
  • [15:31] Moundsa Mayo: Maestro, this is a ghost of Jiras past B^D V
  • [15:31] Vincent Nacon: It was actually more of Andrew's work than Falcon since these are old vehicle system
  • [15:31] Moundsa Mayo: SVC-6255
  • [15:31] Flame of Jira: [#SVC-6255] llVolumeDetect issues single or multiple collision_start and collision_end events for linked object depending on link spacing during passage through volume https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6255
  • [15:32] arton Rotaru: = Falcon, pls make new vehicle api^^
  • [15:33] Vincent Nacon: that'll have to come later, Arton
  • [15:33] Vincent Nacon: it's a big project
  • [15:33] Maestro Linden: Vincent: I asked Andrew about SVC-7372. He's worried that if we make the change, it will break vehicles which rely on the clamping for their current behavior
  • [15:33] Flame of Jira: [#SVC-7372] Raise limit for VEHICLE_ANGULAR_MOTOR_DIRECTION https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7372
  • [15:33] arton Rotaru: the sooner the better imho
  • [15:33] Vincent Nacon: of course but later...
  • [15:33] Maestro Linden: kind of like how increasing the vehicular speed limit in Havok4 made certain vehicles go really really fast
  • [15:34] Oskar Linden: so if we don't see ay huge bugs that will hold us back the new physics stuff gets an RC slot next week right Maestro?
  • [15:34] Vincent Nacon: oh I knew the risk, I offered my time to do testing
  • [15:34] Maestro Linden: Yeah, that's the plan, Oskar.
  • [15:34] Coyot Linden: hmm
  • [15:34] Oskar Linden: cool
  • [15:34] Maestro Linden: Vincent: could you send him a copy of yur vehicle, so he can see what you're after?
  • [15:34] Oskar Linden: there is some stuff andrew wanted me to talk about in the drtsim-107 regions
  • [15:35] Oskar Linden: there is a fix for SVC-5927
  • [15:35] Flame of Jira: [#SVC-5927] Temp on Rezzed objects get queued https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-5927
  • [15:35] Vincent Nacon: could but not a good idea when it come to my code work
  • [15:35] Oskar Linden: this fix contains extra "feedback" which adds extra "sleep" to scripts for each llRezObject() when the physics engine is suffering
  • [15:36] Oskar Linden: where "suffering" means that it is actively changing LOD of object shapes, or is "quarantining" objects (pinning in place temporarily)
  • [15:36] Oskar Linden: test is to build a lag-generator in one corner of a region (to get sim FPS < 25 because of physics) and then test their machine gun in the opposite corner -- their machine gun should slow down by a factor of 5
  • [15:36] Oskar Linden: -- Andrew Linden 2011
  • [15:36] Oskar Linden: any insight into that Maestro?
  • [15:37] Maestro Linden: um, it's really hard to test on Aditi, without having an army doing battle
  • [15:37] Oskar Linden: I say we ship it then
  • [15:37] Vincent Nacon: host one in advance
  • [15:37] Maestro Linden: we won't really be sure that it works until it's been out on Agni, I reckon
  • [15:37] Oskar Linden: WE'LL DO IT LIVE!!

  • [15:43] Coyot Linden: have been reimaged with the new kernel

  • [15:46] Coyot Linden: Anyway, there was a fair bit of continuing action on the TIMEWARP JIRA
  • [15:46] Coyot Linden: where lag sources not related to that problem were being brought up
  • [15:46] Coyot Linden: sometimes not so civilly
  • [15:46] Motor Loon: The massive simcrossing issues last week seemed to get solved as the regions did the rollingrestarts too
  • [15:46] Coyot Linden: So a small plea: file new JIRAs for different issues
  • [15:47] Coyot Linden: Thanks, Oskar, that's it.
  • [15:47] Marigold Devin: there were still loads of complaints about sim crossings on the blake seas SVC-472
  • [15:47] Motor LoonMotor Loon really thinks non-civil comments on jira should simply be deleted as spam
  • [15:47] Flame of Jira: [#SVC-472] Region Crossings Fail https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-472
  • [15:47] WolfPup Lowenhar: < is to busy mainly dealing wiht viewer issues to worry much about sim issues

  • [15:50] arton Rotaru: no assignee
  • [15:51] Oskar Linden: hmm
  • [15:51] arton Rotaru: probably people are releasing stuff, without knowing about the bug
  • [15:51] arton Rotaru: because it never happens on your own creations
  • [15:51] arton Rotaru: have to test with an alt
  • [15:51] Oskar Linden: maestro can you get SCR-225 assigned out
  • [15:52] Marigold Devin: Maestro seems to be bleeding to death
  • [15:52] Marigold DevinMarigold Devin looks around for Alice Cooper

  • [15:54] Object: Hello, Avatar!
  • [15:54] Oskar Linden: a strong fix can hammer anything

  • [15:54] arton Rotaru: Maestro need such a hammer
  • [15:54] Coyot Linden: "clue-by-four"
  • [15:55] arton Rotaru: before he is completely broken
  • [15:55] Homeless: pile drivers work much better
  • [15:55] lonetorus Habilis: vincent, why do you want a list of already banned ppl, just set it up to unban everyone on your frinds list (for extra points make it get the anmes/keys from a external web site
  • [15:55] Oskar Linden: well that is about all I have for today
  • [15:56] Vincent Nacon: so we could make a better ban system?
  • [15:56] Flip Idlemind: So...SVC-7404?
  • [15:56] Flame of Jira: [#SVC-7404] Display Name Lookups Fail for Banned Accounts https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7404
  • [15:56] Oskar Linden: I say we use the next 4 minutes for a dance party
  • [15:56] Vincent Nacon: like... when the sim is full, gotta remove someone
  • [15:56] arton Rotaru: the timewarp dance
  • [15:56] Coyot Linden: for i in (select * from user); ban i; done;
  • [15:56] Vincent Nacon: but who?
  • [15:56] Marigold Devin: You start then Oskar
  • [15:56] arton Rotaru: the one with less money
  • [15:57] arton Rotaru: the least money
  • [15:57] Vincent Nacon: with a list, you could track them with timer for who has been banned the longest
  • [15:57] lonetorus Habilis: last question, how does the EM function handle a full ban list?
  • [15:57] lonetorus Habilis: just returns false?
  • [15:57] arton Rotaru: or how would you english people phrase that?
  • [15:57] Oskar Linden: we need some music
  • [15:57] Vincent Nacon: also... other managers may ban someone manually... the script need to stay on updated with that list
  • [15:57] Coyot LindenCoyot Linden is listening to pandora
  • [15:57] arton Rotaru: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBHONx9vTtI
  • [15:57] Motor LoonMotor Loon starts singing
  • [15:57] Maestro Linden: Ionetorus: in that case it returns true (because it could access the db), which sadly doesn't indicate that the extra ban failed
  • [15:58] Maestro Linden: which is useless from a user's perspective, really, although the object owner gets a notice from the server that the estate banlist is full
  • [15:58] lonetorus Habilis: maestro, ok, perhaps that should be added as a caveat to the wiki?
  • [15:58] lonetorus Habilis: ahh ok
  • [15:58] Oskar Linden: i hope you all have a very scary halloween
  • [15:59] Coyot Linden: BOO
  • [15:59] Marigold Devin: undoubtedly

  • [15:59] TankMaster Finesmith: go n scare dem children! :P
  • [15:59] Maestro Linden: yeah I agreee that it qualifies as a 'caveat' at least
  • [15:59] Oskar Linden: if you wake up Monday morning and your avatar has been overwritten with maestro's avatar BOO!
  • [15:59] Marigold Devin: that'll be better than "missing image" !
  • [16:00] Oskar Linden: we're making maestro sick
  • [16:00] lonetorus Habilis: oskar, or all items in my inv replaced by plain plywood cubes
