  • [15:02] Motor Loon: Ah atleast Mari's flight helper is working...
  • [15:03] Oskar Linden: :-)
  • [15:03] MartinRJ Fayray: Hi Oskar
  • [15:03] Motor Loon: Ossie... Maestro
  • [15:03] Grid Crash Protection Box: Maestro Linden, you are now shielded from the effects of any Grid crashes which might occur!
  • [15:04] Oskar Linden: so how is everyone?
  • [15:04] Motor LoonMotor Loon starts nailing the box shut
  • [15:04] Theresa Tennyson: I flew in today but I had to leave my plane next door because there's too much CRAP on this lot.
  • [15:04] TankMaster Finesmith: peachy
  • [15:04] Motor Loon: But butt is itchy a little, but otherwise I'm fairly good thank you..
  • [15:04] TankMaster Finesmith: you mean you had to actually walk, threasa?
  • [15:04] Theresa Tennyson: Just up the hill.
  • [15:05] Motor Loon: ...if only we could teleport... wouldn't that be something
  • [15:05] Oskar Linden: thanks for the update motor
  • [15:05] Motor Loon: yvw
  • [15:05] Theresa Tennyson: Teleporting is for wusses.
  • [15:05] Oskar Linden: agenda is here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Server_Beta_User_Group
  • [15:05] Lares Carter: Ate some bad pineapple - otherwise fine.
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: things were going great this week til Tuesday
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: then...
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: :-)
  • [15:06] Motor Loon: A good monday... imagine that!
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: so this is what happened
  • [15:06] TankMaster Finesmith: "some" hickups?
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: our release system is a big machine
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: it's operated by hand
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: but it's still a machine
  • [15:06] NeoBokrug Elytis: With cranks and levers?
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: you put code in one end and it gets released at the other end
  • [15:06] Motor Loon: you dropped the steamengine?
  • [15:06] TankMaster Finesmith: you mean its a punchcard machine?
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: cranks and levers
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: what happened was the wrong code was put into the machine
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: so the machine just kept happily shipping the wrong bits
  • [15:07] Theresa TennysonTheresa Tennyson facepalm.
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: the bits it was shipping were still in QA and not ready for release
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: it was a mistake
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: we noticed it after half the grid was deployed
  • [15:07] Motor Loon: well, we could have been lucky and gotten newer code without bugs though
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: sadly it was more buggy
  • [15:08] TankMaster Finesmith: you mean after the 5 duplicate bug reposts saying the same thing, slow performance?
  • [15:08] Theresa Tennyson: It was bugtastic.
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: the code contained some changes to the server interest list
  • [15:08] Nalates Urriah: Motor is a dreamer
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: and that made some things invisible
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: so it would look like they wouldn't rez
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: it was there
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: you could see the prim count decrement
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: but the server wouldn't tell the viewer about them
  • [15:08] Motor LoonMotor Loon points out that he as the first noted on the forum page that it was not the correct version °͜°
  • [15:08] TankMaster Finesmith: thats... intersting
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: as soon as I noticed I kinda freaked out
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: so we went into full emergency mode
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: :-)
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: we rolled a few regions to the correct version and made sure there weren't any issues with that
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: then made sure that previously invis stuff was now vis
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: and then we called it good and restarted the whole roll
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: then the grid settled down
  • [15:10] Motor Loon: wasn't THAT bad... for us atleast...
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: and all was good
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: THE END
  • [15:10] Motor Loon: I got my house vacum'd and the dishes done
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: haha
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: I'm glad that our errors allow you the capacity to clean your house
  • [15:10] Motor Loon: Me too!
  • [15:10] TankMaster Finesmith: and all but alexia, who had to close several duplicate jiras, was happy :D
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: now if only I could clean my house!
  • [15:11] Motor Loon: You dont have to do it every week though... if I can get the house cleaned once a month I'm ok with that ,-)
  • [15:11] Oskar Linden: so that was our Tuesday!
  • [15:11] Motor Loon: Howcome the RC's didnt go out?
  • [15:11] Oskar Linden: good times!
  • [15:11] Oskar Linden: fun stuff
  • [15:11] SonicAnd Miles: sounds like fun :-/
  • [15:11] Oskar Linden: well
  • [15:11] Motor Loon: Baker seemed sure they would
  • [15:12] Oskar Linden: the RC's didn't pass QA
  • [15:12] Motor Loon: arh... did he cry then?
  • [15:12] Maestro Linden: There was a teensy problem
  • [15:12] Motor Loon: poor baker
  • [15:12] Oskar Linden: Developer confidence is what pays my bills
  • [15:12] Theresa Tennyson: FIRE!
  • [15:12] Oskar Linden: so the more confident baker is the more secure my job is
  • [15:12] TankMaster Finesmith: lol
  • [15:12] Motor Loon: Probably true there
  • [15:12] Oskar Linden: we might have had the cycles to rush out a fix for the RC code
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: and get it QA'd and smoked
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: but it would have been tight
  • [15:13] Motor Loon: also "tomorrow is another day" right
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: Tuesday was already nuts so we just decided to let it go
  • [15:13] Motor Loon: nods
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: so the whole grid is on the same version
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: we'll get another RC next week
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: or two
  • [15:13] Motor Loon: Injoy while it lasts °͜°
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: what were the issues maestro?
  • [15:14] Maestro Linden: The bug was that when you rezzed an object, scripts in child prims wouldn't load
  • [15:14] Motor Loon: ouch thats a bad one
  • [15:14] Motor Loon: dont sound like Baker caused that one though eh?
  • [15:14] Rex Cronon: back
  • [15:14] Maestro Linden: Nah, that was a Kelly bug :)
  • [15:14] Motor Loon: arh Kelly again... damn him
  • [15:14] Rex Cronon: i bet cars without scripts in the r quite useful:)
  • [15:15] Maestro Linden: lower lag for region crossing, I'm sure
  • [15:15] Motor Loon: Grid would have been alot less laggy though
  • [15:15] Motor Loon: except for the screaming people
  • [15:15] Motor Loon: ofcourse
  • [15:15] Rex Cronon: them*
  • [15:16] Oskar Linden: haha
  • [15:16] Oskar Linden: pros and cons
  • [15:16] Motor Loon: will next week just be the fixed RCs rollout then or you expect it'll be merged with other fixes too?
  • [15:17] Maestro Linden: I think the plan was to add 1 more bugfix, Motor
  • [15:17] Maestro Linden: for...
  • [15:17] TankMaster Finesmith: fixing a bug
  • [15:17] Motor Loon: hehe
  • [15:18] Maestro Linden: Hm, which bug was that
  • [15:18] Maestro Linden: the one about renaming items in object inventory
  • [15:18] TankMaster Finesmith: gee, theres so many to choose from...
  • [15:18] Oskar Linden: :-)
  • [15:18] Maestro Linden: if 2 items have the same name because you just renamed one to match the other's name, you'd lose an item
  • [15:18] Motor Loon: ouch... never happened to me... new bug?
  • [15:18] MartinRJ Fayray: it will be replaced with an obscure 'Old Script'
  • [15:18] Whirly Fizzle: BUG-126
  • [15:19] Motor Loon: looks new
  • [15:19] TankMaster Finesmith: BUG-126
  • [15:19] Rex Cronon: u loose the old one or the new one that u just renamed?
  • [15:19] Maestro Linden: but classically in that case, we would rename the 2nd one to "item 1" if the other one was called "item"
  • [15:19] Oskar LindenOskar Linden renames an avatar Motor Loon and watches Motor Loon disappear
  • [15:19] MartinRJ Fayray: lol
  • [15:19] Motor Loon: nooooo
  • [15:19] TankMaster Finesmith: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-126
  • [15:19] Maestro Linden: Not sure which, Rex
  • [15:19] Motor LoonMotor Loon gets sucked into the big black hole
  • [15:19] Maestro Linden: maybe it depends on the alphabetical order from before you did the renaming
  • [15:19] Motor Loon: speaking of "permission violations"... So, any news from interesting internal meetings about the whole new Jira situation?
  • [15:20] MartinRJ Fayray: permission violation results probably from being on the beta grid atm
  • [15:20] Whirly Fizzle: what Martin said... SCR-118
  • [15:20] Flame of Jira: [#SCR-118] Scripts fail to compile, run, delete, and randomly appear as "Old Script" in inventory https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SCR-118
  • [15:20] Oskar Linden: what news are you looking for Motor?
  • [15:21] Motor Loon: well
  • [15:21] Oskar Linden: we're still trying to shake down the bugs that are in there
  • [15:21] Motor Loon: you was talking about suggesting a change in who would view / comment on jira bugs
  • [15:21] Maestro Linden: oh that comment in SCR-118 is interesting, Whirly
  • [15:21] Whirly Fizzle: Yep..good to repro that one atm :D
  • [15:21] Oskar Linden: right Motor, I don't have anything yet to report
  • [15:21] Motor Loon: okiesdokies
  • [15:21] Rex Cronon: it says:

Resolved:

22/Jul/11 9:50 AM
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: so yeah. main channel got rolled
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: and no RC rolls this week
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: those are the updates
  • [15:22] Whirly Fizzle: and, youll also notice that the box will say touched twice, even when the other script is deleted (before rerez)
  • [15:22] Maestro Linden: well, they probably just found a new way to trigger that behavior via BUG-126
  • [15:22] Whirly Fizzle: Ya
  • [15:22] Maestro Linden: I bet 'old script' is created as a placeholder if the sim knows there's a script there, but can't find the script in the object
  • [15:23] Motor Loon: Not a good sign the system is prepared to handle new bugs °͜°
  • [15:23] Maestro Linden: perhaps it's created so you can delete the item and make the script no longer run in the sim
  • [15:23] TankMaster Finesmith: should say "lost script" or "where_did_my_mind_go script"
  • [15:25] TankMaster Finesmith: speaking of that, was BUG-132 ever resolved?
  • [15:25] NeoBokrug Elytis: How's that new system working out?
  • [15:25] Maestro Linden: BUG-132

I've lost my mind

  • [15:25] Whirly Fizzle: LOOL
  • [15:25] TankMaster Finesmith: :D
  • [15:25] NeoBokrug Elytis: Is that an answer? :D
  • [15:25] Maestro Linden: I think he failed to provide evidence that he had one to lose in the first place :P
  • [15:25] TankMaster Finesmith: lol
  • [15:25] Oskar Linden: no repro
  • [15:26] Motor Loon: mabye just expected behavior eh?
  • [15:26] MartinRJ Fayray: next one?
  • [15:26] Oskar Linden: it's like saying 3 of the cores in your quad core system are failing
  • [15:26] Oskar Linden: when you're on a pentium 2
  • [15:26] TankMaster Finesmith: :D
  • [15:26] SonicAnd Miles: i got 8 cores :p
  • [15:26] TankMaster Finesmith: not that sl would run on a p2 anymore
  • [15:27] Oskar Linden: I'm sure you all saw the announcements about new products
  • [15:27] Oskar Linden: Patterns: http://lindenlab.com/products/patterns
  • [15:27] Motor LoonMotor Loon aint no Apple fan
  • [15:27] Oskar Linden: and Creatorverse: http://lindenlab.com/products/creatorverse
  • [15:27] Whirly Fizzle: Looks like Minecraft :D
  • [15:27] TankMaster Finesmith: looks like minesweaper
  • [15:27] TankMaster Finesmith: er craft
  • [15:27] Oskar Linden: but with triangles!
  • [15:27] Kallista Destiny: Yeah is this going to cut into the amount of people working on Second Life?
  • [15:27] MartinRJ Fayray: is the rumor true that they will open the first beta very soon, like - in a couple of days?
  • [15:28] Oskar Linden: not really Kallista
  • [15:28] Oskar Linden: and the way I look at it too many cooks spoil the broth
  • [15:28] Rex Cronon: as long as u can't export those things to sl and from sl, does it really affect us?
  • [15:28] Oskar Linden: we still have the largest percentage of our company working on SL
  • [15:28] Oskar Linden: these products have no real effect on SL
  • [15:28] Motor Loon: Patteren and Creatorverse is something Oskar does in his freetime and during vacations...
  • [15:29] Marigold Devin: ... and in his sleeeep
  • [15:29] Oskar Linden: my freetime and vacation time is usually without computers
  • [15:29] Motor Loon: thats what we all claim
  • [15:29] Oskar Linden: :-)
  • [15:29] Motor Loon: reality is often different °͜°
  • [15:30] Oskar Linden: :-)
  • [15:30] Motor Loon: My Second Life™ partner seems to answer emails from her Iphone even while she's sleeping
  • [15:30] Oskar Linden: I never said I wasn't attached at the hip to my iPhone
  • [15:30] Motor Loon: It's the devils work I tell ya
  • [15:30] Marigold Devin: I think you can set your iphone to autopilot your Facebook responses
  • [15:30] Oskar Linden: although all I really use it for is solving arguments
  • [15:30] TankMaster Finesmith: iWannaBCool2
  • [15:31] Oskar Linden: There is NO WAY Uwe Bol was in StarWars:EP2
  • [15:31] Oskar Linden: I'll google it!
  • [15:31] Oskar Linden: anyway
  • [15:31] Oskar Linden: check out the new products sometime
  • [15:31] Oskar Linden: if you can
  • [15:31] Motor Loon: Thank god I can't ...
  • [15:31] Oskar Linden: I'd love to hear what you think of them
  • [15:31] Oskar Linden: I'm excited for new products
  • [15:32] MartinRJ Fayray: if I find an iPad emulator...
  • [15:32] Oskar Linden: gets ome new baskest for new eggs
  • [15:32] Oskar Linden: that kinda thing
  • [15:32] Motor Loon: I'm glad you guys are branching out a bit though... means a safer future for the company and I know we all want that
  • [15:32] Motor Loon: also I like to see a bit of that ol' Philip innovative-spirit in the lab
  • [15:32] TankMaster FinesmithTankMaster Finesmith wonders how long it would take to get an ipad simulator running on the MS surface
  • [15:33] Rex Cronon: next project: sl-viewer ipad version:)
  • [15:33] TankMaster Finesmith: I saw in the IRC chat the other day someone was trying to prot the viewer to ARM...
  • [15:33] TankMaster Finesmith: port*
  • [15:33] Oskar Linden: well good luck to them!
  • [15:33] MartinRJ Fayray: there is a port already, it's in the TPV list
  • [15:34] TankMaster Finesmith: with graphcis and all that?
  • [15:34] MartinRJ Fayray: lumyia or something
  • [15:34] MartinRJ Fayray: yeah
  • [15:34] TankMaster Finesmith: huh
  • [15:34] MartinRJ Fayray: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory/Lumiya
  • [15:34] MartinRJ Fayray: Lumiya
  • [15:34] Motor Loon: Apparently (I'm told) it's not very good though
  • [15:34] MartinRJ Fayray: but it's closed source
  • [15:34] MartinRJ Fayray: :(
  • [15:35] TankMaster Finesmith: bummer
  • [15:35] TankMaster Finesmith: lol
  • [15:35] TankMaster Finesmith: * [15:35] new name here left the region.
  • [15:35] NeoBokrug Elytis: Any updates on the HTTP project?
  • [15:36] TankMaster Finesmith: last I heard, the first fase of the viewer changes are in qa
  • [15:36] Oskar Linden: the HTTP project?
  • [15:37] TankMaster Finesmith: somethign monty is working on
  • [15:37] Whirly Fizzle: Monty's stuff
  • [15:37] TankMaster Finesmith: to better make use of the http protocals
  • [15:37] NeoBokrug Elytis: I thought there was work to revamp the server/client communications.
  • [15:37] Oskar Linden: I forget what he's working on
  • [15:37] Nalates Urriah: The Shiny projects
  • [15:37] Whirly Fizzle: Theres an HTTP project viewer
  • [15:37] Motor Loon: ooOO shiny!
  • [15:37] NeoBokrug Elytis: That's what I'm runnin.
  • [15:37] Maestro Linden: Hm I think those changes are only viewer-side, so Oskar and I wouldn't be looking at them directly
  • [15:37] TankMaster Finesmith: eventually the servers will actually use keepalive...
  • [15:38] NeoBokrug Elytis: Ahh
  • [15:38] Oskar Linden: yeah
  • [15:38] NeoBokrug Elytis: Thought it might be a bit server side too.
  • [15:38] Maestro Linden: at least for this phase..
  • [15:38] Whirly Fizzle: Any timeline for serverside baking then? :D
  • [15:38] Oskar Linden: so I don't have so much more to talk about
  • [15:38] Oskar Linden: we've hit all the agenda points
  • [15:38] Oskar Linden: any topics of interest?
  • [15:38] TankMaster Finesmith: the first fase is viewer only, but server changes will be made later on, and apparently its going to brake exsisting viewers
  • [15:39] TankMaster Finesmith: phun times head
  • [15:39] Motor Loon: is location of Flycam handled by viewer alone?
  • [15:39] NeoBokrug Elytis: Isn't that what caps is for?
  • [15:40] Motor Loon: I noticed using my shiny new SpaceNavigator that simcrossings while using Flycam messes up the flycam's location
  • [15:40] NeoBokrug Elytis: Yeah
  • [15:40] NeoBokrug Elytis: Same if you teleport.
  • [15:41] Rex Cronon: i have "tiny" topic: when will we be able to write to notecards:)
  • [15:41] Motor Loon: kinda borks my up machinema stuff
  • [15:41] TankMaster Finesmith: ?
  • [15:41] TankMaster Finesmith: as in handwritten notes?
  • [15:41] NeoBokrug Elytis: I think he means scripts writting to notecards
  • [15:41] Motor Loon: notecard writing would be awesome, but I doubt we'll ever see it
  • [15:41] Rex Cronon: as in using lsl to write to notecards in an objects inventory:)
  • [15:42] NeoBokrug Elytis: I also remember reading that is super problematic because any time a notecard is changed it creates a new asset.
  • [15:42] Rex Cronon: guess what happens each time u rez something...
  • [15:42] Maestro Linden: Yes, there are probably some concerns about 'griefer' content creating a flood of new assets
  • [15:43] Rex Cronon: no danger of having a flood
  • [15:43] Maestro Linden: maybe it could work if each write cost L$10 and the script had PERMISSION_DEBIT?
  • [15:43] Motor Loon: haha
  • [15:43] MartinRJ Fayray: hahah
  • [15:43] NeoBokrug Elytis: Heh, bankrupt customers.
  • [15:43] MartinRJ Fayray: Yes
  • [15:43] Motor Loon: forget it then
  • [15:43] MartinRJ Fayray: good idea
  • [15:43] Rex Cronon: not greater the what we have already
  • [15:43] MartinRJ Fayray: :)
  • [15:43] NeoBokrug Elytis: Or just up the caps on script memory limits.
  • [15:44] NeoBokrug Elytis: Bring back C#)
  • [15:44] Motor Loon: Now that would be nice
  • [15:44] Rex Cronon: the thing is. scripts really need to save info
  • [15:44] MartinRJ Fayray: it would be nice if prims would have a storage, so we don't have to use the description, really
  • [15:44] MartinRJ Fayray: (to temporarily store data)
  • [15:44] Rex Cronon: and more than 64 letters in desd, or 1024 in textabove
  • [15:44] NeoBokrug Elytis: PRIM_TEXT
  • [15:44] Rex Cronon: in desc*
  • [15:44] NeoBokrug Elytis: Keys stored on non-visible surfaces
  • [15:44] NeoBokrug Elytis: So many hacks!
  • [15:45] Motor Loon: I've used both methods, but yeah, they are hacks
  • [15:45] MartinRJ Fayray: yes, hacks hacks hacks
  • [15:45] Kallista Destiny: nifty hacks
  • [15:45] Rex Cronon: persistent storage is very much needed
  • [15:45] Kallista Destiny: no ugly hacks allowed
  • [15:45] Motor Loon: Providing a "proper" method means people wouldnt use hacks
  • [15:45] NeoBokrug Elytis: what about pretty hacks?
  • [15:45] TankMaster Finesmith: ^
  • [15:46] NeoBokrug Elytis: Maybe a new asset type?
  • [15:46] MartinRJ Fayray: 'spam'
  • [15:46] Kallista Destiny: Halk?
  • [15:46] NeoBokrug Elytis: script_database?
  • [15:46] Kallista Destiny: Hack?
  • [15:46] TankMaster Finesmith: yes, we need more asset types...
  • [15:46] Motor Loon: Storage asset
  • [15:46] Motor Loon: Databank
  • [15:46] MartinRJ Fayray: I think we've lost the Lindens
  • [15:46] MartinRJ Fayray: : )
  • [15:46] Oskar Linden: nope
  • [15:46] MartinRJ Fayray: hehe
  • [15:46] Motor Loon: Im sure they are making notes of our wonderful suggestions
  • [15:46] Oskar Linden: I just don't have anything more on the agenda
  • [15:46] TankMaster Finesmith: they are just lurking :D
  • [15:47] Maestro Linden: Oh, so
  • [15:47] Oskar LindenOskar Linden has iles on all of you
  • [15:47] Oskar Linden: :-p
  • [15:47] Kallista Destiny: Allowing us to brainstorm
  • [15:47] Oskar Linden: files
  • [15:47] Rex Cronon: so, can we have llWriteNodecard(string name, string value)
  • [15:47] Maestro Linden: that server build with the havok update is almost ready
  • [15:47] Maestro Linden: we'll probably deploy it to more regions on Aditi
  • [15:47] Rex Cronon: like in 2-3 days:0
  • [15:47] Rex Cronon: :)
  • [15:47] Maestro Linden: probably the pathtest regions
  • [15:47] Maestro Linden: so people can rez their vehicles and whatnot
  • [15:47] Theresa Tennyson: Andrew was saying the interest list project is running on a few regions in Aditi?
