[2014/07/10 15:04] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Hi guys
[2014/07/10 15:05] Theresa Tennyson: Hello - can we get some lights? It's as dark as the inside of a cat.
[2014/07/10 15:05] Yuzuru (yuzuru.jewell): Hello, Maestro.
[2014/07/10 15:05] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): There you go, Theresa
[2014/07/10 15:05] Rex Cronon: we should be able to use html tabs in chat so people can use fon size=100 when they r shouthing;)
[2014/07/10 15:05] Rex Cronon: hi maestro
[2014/07/10 15:05] Theresa Tennyson: Thank you!
[2014/07/10 15:06] Rex Cronon: html tags*
[2014/07/10 15:06] Duckie Dickins: If I rez my greedy greedy table on the beta server and set it for L$ payouts...do I still need to be a game operator? :)
[2014/07/10 15:06] Whirly Fizzle: lol
[2014/07/10 15:06] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Sorry I was late - got caught up in Jira stuff :o
[2014/07/10 15:06] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Anyway, let's get going - https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Server_Beta_User_Group#Agenda
[2014/07/10 15:07] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): This week we have the basic updates; we can talk about the new maintenance project, which we didn't get around to last week
[2014/07/10 15:07] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): First things first..
[2014/07/10 15:08] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): The main channel on Agni got the maintenance project that was on LT and BS last week
[2014/07/10 15:08] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): which adds LSL support for materials
[2014/07/10 15:08] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): so now the feature is grid-wide
[2014/07/10 15:09] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): \o/
[2014/07/10 15:09] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): I just used it to debug / fix a rendering issue
[2014/07/10 15:09] Inara Breen: Loki Eliot has been having fun playing with the features
[2014/07/10 15:09] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-6649
[2014/07/10 15:10] Inara Breen: http://www.lokieliot.com/blog/?p=1910
[2014/07/10 15:10] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): (although some viewer devs are working on fixing the underlying rendering issue, the scripts make it easier to diagnose and perform a workaround on objects)
[2014/07/10 15:10] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Cool Inara - i was going to ask about that
[2014/07/10 15:11] Inara Breen: Thought you might be :)
[2014/07/10 15:11] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): Wow... SL gives you Telepathy ;)
[2014/07/10 15:12] Inara Breen: I knew you were going to say that, Coyot ... :)
[2014/07/10 15:12] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Maybe Inara can conduct the rest of the user group
[2014/07/10 15:12] Inara Breen: /me shuts up rapidly
[2014/07/10 15:12] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): unless the ESP is just retroactive :)
[2014/07/10 15:12] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): hehe
[2014/07/10 15:13] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Next up.. Magnum is still on the experience tools project
[2014/07/10 15:13] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): the only update for that was to get the changes that were new to the main channel this week
[2014/07/10 15:14] Yuzuru (yuzuru.jewell): Where is the document to use to make ex tool object?
[2014/07/10 15:14] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): as I recall, there was going to be a Q&A session about experience tools at Tuesday's server user group
[2014/07/10 15:14] Whirly Fizzle: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Experiences-in-Second-Life/ta-p/2744686
[2014/07/10 15:15] Yuzuru (yuzuru.jewell): Thank you, Maestro and Whirly..
[2014/07/10 15:15] Nal (nalates.urriah): There was Maestro. I have Dolphin and Oz's comments quoted on my blog
[2014/07/10 15:15] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Okay, I think Simon is working on posting the transcript from that too
[2014/07/10 15:16] Nal (nalates.urriah): Dolphin Linden will ber there again next Tuesday.
[2014/07/10 15:16] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Excellent
[2014/07/10 15:16] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): I guess we'll leave that talk to him
[2014/07/10 15:17] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Finally, BlueSteel and LeTigre got a new maintenance project: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_BlueSteel/14#14.06.26.291532
[2014/07/10 15:18] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): It fixes one obscure LSL json bug, a slightly less obscure interest list issue, and adds slightly better logging to the L$ transactions page
[2014/07/10 15:19] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): the LSL json bugfix, BUG-6466, just makes it so that numbers in the format "1.0e+2" get parsed as json numbers. Previously, they'd be treated as strings (though "1.0e2" would be treated as a number)
[2014/07/10 15:19] Simon Linden: Tuesday's user group transcript is up now on https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Simulator_User_Group/Transcripts/2014.07.08
[2014/07/10 15:19] Simon Linden: That has the Experience Tools discussion with Dolphin Linden
[2014/07/10 15:20] Rex Cronon: thanks simon:)
[2014/07/10 15:20] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): the spec says that "+" is optional, so we added that support. I'd be surprised if more than 2 people end up noticing that change :)
[2014/07/10 15:20] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): I want it to parse e^(2*pi*i) as -1
[2014/07/10 15:20] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): the “Temp Attachments are sometimes not removed on the viewer when detached from a region change event.” fix was for a certain race condition, I believe
[2014/07/10 15:20] Nal (nalates.urriah): Yeah, but if you left it people would keep stumbling into it.
[2014/07/10 15:20] Simon Linden: yes, updates were out of order there
[2014/07/10 15:21] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): That's true I suppose, Nal. Maybe if certain other scripting systems stuck that '+' in the exponent, often
[2014/07/10 15:22] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): that attachment bug would sometimes happen if a script detached itself immediately when it detected a region change / TP during a long-distance TP
[2014/07/10 15:23] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): and I believe it only occurred for the avatar who was wearing the object - does that sound right to you, simon?
[2014/07/10 15:23] Lucia Nightfire: more curious what your method of fixing the operate in no script parcel attaching for new owner by temp attach is gonna be, heh
[2014/07/10 15:24] Simon Linden: No, anyone watching might see the bug too ... basically if your script took things off on the region change, anyone might get the updates out of order
[2014/07/10 15:24] Simon Linden: It was worst on slow connections
[2014/07/10 15:24] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Ah.
[2014/07/10 15:25] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): and the final change is a new feature of sorts
[2014/07/10 15:25] Simon Linden: for those who are curious, it went like this: if the first update from the new region was slow, the "kill" message removing the object would happen first, and get ignored
[2014/07/10 15:26] Rex Cronon: so if somebody wears one of those anime heads and speacial eyes, u might see a gapping holes where the eyes used to be?
[2014/07/10 15:26] Simon Linden: if they programmed it to remove eyes when you crossed regions, possibly yes, Rex
[2014/07/10 15:26] Nal (nalates.urriah): No... I think you would see eyes and no head
[2014/07/10 15:27] Simon Linden: but the effect was the opposite- things appear to stay on when they should go away
[2014/07/10 15:27] Lucia Nightfire: I get the failed detach on region change thing all the time, 9 out of 10 times you can detach it, but there is a rare time where it won't detach and that time is when only you see teh attachment
[2014/07/10 15:27] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): /me hums Eyes Without A Face
[2014/07/10 15:27] Nal (nalates.urriah): Oh... then they would lose their head.
[2014/07/10 15:27] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): :)
[2014/07/10 15:27] Simon Linden: In this case you can't detach it, Lucia - because for the sim, it's already gone. The viewers are the ones out-of-sync with the server
[2014/07/10 15:28] Kennylex Luckless: omg, a Baker.
[2014/07/10 15:28] Simon Linden: so you right-click and detach again and nothing happens
[2014/07/10 15:28] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Right, so selecting it would make the sim trigger a "KillObject" message , 'fixing' the problem for you
[2014/07/10 15:28] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): ^ or am I wrong again, simon? ;)
[2014/07/10 15:28] Lucia Nightfire: aside from that rare instance
[2014/07/10 15:29] Jenna Felton: i happen sometimes to see my mesh head and mesh heels disappeard on my meshavie (not thisone i am wearing) but all other residents nearby see them normally, or opposite i do see them but others see nothing at that place and they dont open menu anymore when i click them.
[2014/07/10 15:29] Lucia Nightfire: which may need a viewer change idk
[2014/07/10 15:29] Nal (nalates.urriah): There is still something going on with attachments at login. I keep relogging to get my hair or a shoe, foot, hand... to rez in the right place.
[2014/07/10 15:29] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): it rezzes in the wrong place?
[2014/07/10 15:29] Nal (nalates.urriah): Yes
[2014/07/10 15:30] Nal (nalates.urriah): A relog usually fixes it. But, nothing else seems to work.
[2014/07/10 15:30] Theresa Tennyson: With AIS3, the login is a traumatic experience for avatars...
[2014/07/10 15:30] Simon Linden: It depends in that case ... if your viewer did get the original update, it could then match the kill message with the attachment and delete it. I was seeing cases, however, where that was never sent ... probably because by the time it was to send it, the object was gone from the server already
[2014/07/10 15:30] Whirly Fizzle: Thats a weird bug nal mentioned. Ive never been able to repro it but I know others have. Certain people have this problem all the time.
[2014/07/10 15:30] Simon Linden: Nal - so you see them, but the position or rotation is wrong?
[2014/07/10 15:30] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): I thought there was a mechanism where if the viewer says "select object X" and X doesn't exist as far as the server knows, that the server would send a KillObject message to say "X disappears!"
[2014/07/10 15:31] Nal (nalates.urriah): I would guess I run into it every 5th or 6th login. Changing back and forth between FS and SL viewers seems to get it going.
[2014/07/10 15:31] Lucia Nightfire: I see it with temp attachments attached to AVATAR_CENTER more than anything, actually thats the only time I see it
[2014/07/10 15:31] Simon Linden: yes Maestro but your viewer doesn't have the correct local ID for your attachment if you never get that first full update
[2014/07/10 15:31] Nal (nalates.urriah): But, I haven't figured out the pattern to reproduce it.
[2014/07/10 15:31] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): okay
[2014/07/10 15:32] Lucia Nightfire: so this is fixed on BS and LT? or what/
[2014/07/10 15:32] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Yes fixed on BS and LT
[2014/07/10 15:32] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): (or so we claim!)
[2014/07/10 15:33] Simon Linden: The fix has to be on the region you're going into, fwiw
[2014/07/10 15:33] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): The one non-bugfix change in BS and LT is more verbose logging of certain L$ transaction types
[2014/07/10 15:33] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): yeah, that's important to note
[2014/07/10 15:33] Rex Cronon: maestro. what does BS stand for?
[2014/07/10 15:33] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): BlueSteel
[2014/07/10 15:33] Lucia Nightfire: you a funneh guy, Rexxy
[2014/07/10 15:33] Nal (nalates.urriah): Blue Steel
[2014/07/10 15:33] Rex Cronon: lol. sorry. i thought it meant something else
[2014/07/10 15:33] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): Nal, one way to get a grapple on that sort of thing is to start a test run and keep track of the login times and regions. When you hit a fail, logout and do one more and see if it succeeds. If you provide that and the viewer logs, it would be easier for someone (not me) to do some log diving to figure out what the problem is
[2014/07/10 15:34] Whirly Fizzle: re Nals bug, couple of examples: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-890 https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-2772
[2014/07/10 15:34] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): We'll say it stands for that other thing if there's imminent need for a rollback..
[2014/07/10 15:34] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): heh
[2014/07/10 15:34] Kennylex Luckless: When Lindens talk BS it is not BS at all.
[2014/07/10 15:34] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): BlueSteel, LeTigre and Magnum
[2014/07/10 15:34] Nal (nalates.urriah): I'll grab the logs next time it happens. I won't send em to you... :) I'll put in JIRA
[2014/07/10 15:35] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): they come from a movie, Zoolander
[2014/07/10 15:35] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): Sounds good, Nal
[2014/07/10 15:35] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Okay, so for that L$ transaction logging change..
[2014/07/10 15:35] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Historically, a L$ transaction from scripted payment (llTransferLindenDollars or llGiveMoney ) would not include the name of the object that did the payment, when you viewed it in the "L$ Transactions" section of the website
[2014/07/10 15:36] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): however you *would* see that information if somebody had paid L$ into an object
[2014/07/10 15:36] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Previously, the entry would just look like this:
[2014/07/10 15:36] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Destination: Maestro Linden
 Object Pays
 Region: Morris
[2014/07/10 15:37] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): but now, with the update to BS and LT, transactions in those regions will additionally include this line:
[2014/07/10 15:37] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Description: <Name of object which paid>
[2014/07/10 15:37] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): the page where you see the difference is https://accounts.secondlife.com/transaction_history/
[2014/07/10 15:38] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Anyway, it could be useful for understanding which of your objects are paying out L$
[2014/07/10 15:38] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): assuming they're not all named "Object" :)
[2014/07/10 15:38] kyleetehkitty: nice
[2014/07/10 15:39] Jenna Felton: definitely
[2014/07/10 15:39] Rex Cronon: u need uuid, name, pos, sim, time and date to make sense of what objects do...
[2014/07/10 15:40] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): obviously, this was an object-oriented fix
[2014/07/10 15:40] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): ;)
[2014/07/10 15:41] Simon Linden: If you're not confused already, just note that when the web page says "Description:" that the object NAME (not description) will be there
[2014/07/10 15:41] Jenna Felton: can you make the list clickable, in a way you click the object name in transaction history and it sends an IM message inworld so you can see what and where it is?
[2014/07/10 15:41] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Well, sim is right there, as is the time / date
[2014/07/10 15:41] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): but yeah, I guess the object id would also be helpful
[2014/07/10 15:41] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): if you have multiple objects with the same name paying people in the same region
[2014/07/10 15:42] Kallista Arliss (kallista.destiny): Or perhaps coordinates?
[2014/07/10 15:43] Rex Cronon: and u know what else is weird. i get these cryptic messages: ThisAve payed you X$L
[2014/07/10 15:43] Rex Cronon: but i have no idea for what and when where were
[2014/07/10 15:43] Simon Linden: It would be a lot easier if they had unique names ... in any case, we're not likely to see new info added on that web page anytime soon. I agree it would be useful, but nobody is working on it
[2014/07/10 15:43] Jenna Felton: or the SLURL to the object's payment position would help with static objects, yes
[2014/07/10 15:43] Nal (nalates.urriah): Vending Machines are often all named the same.
[2014/07/10 15:44] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Hm, I suppose that the quickest way to address that would be llSetObjectName("VendorX " + (string)llGetPos()) in the vending script..
[2014/07/10 15:45] Lucia Nightfire: if you vendor allows it, heh
[2014/07/10 15:45] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): well, probably with a truncated position in case you don't need to know down to the nearest micron
[2014/07/10 15:45] Nal (nalates.urriah): That is an idea.
[2014/07/10 15:45] Lucia Nightfire: also, those "gambling" machines are all static named too, btw ;)
[2014/07/10 15:45] Simon Linden: yeah, it does take manual work
[2014/07/10 15:46] Kallista Arliss (kallista.destiny): oh yeay to the nerest meter is plenty Im sure
[2014/07/10 15:46] Lucia Nightfire: yeah, I would think object name and position
[2014/07/10 15:46] Jenna Felton: that would make the inworld information not easy to understand, you will than see only "vendor" with position but no more the product names, so when you look for some boots you will not find them anymore
[2014/07/10 15:46] Theresa Tennyson: They're NOT GAMBLING MACHINES. THey're SKLL MACHINES. And we've always been at war with Eastasia.
[2014/07/10 15:46] Kallista Arliss (kallista.destiny): lol
[2014/07/10 15:47] Kallista Arliss (kallista.destiny): Ministry of Truth.
[2014/07/10 15:47] Jenna Felton: but when you add the object description to the transaction history like "Object (description)" and the vending script puts the position into the description field that would help
[2014/07/10 15:47] Rex Cronon: it takes a lot of "skill" to throw the dice;)
[2014/07/10 15:48] Lucia Nightfire: when are we allowed to start filing feature request jiras for Exp Tools?
[2014/07/10 15:49] Jenna Felton: as soon you participate on beta i guess :)
[2014/07/10 15:49] Kennylex Luckless: There is still games of chance left on main land, most famous is the one in Minna I think :-)
[2014/07/10 15:49] Lucia Nightfire: I already know what its lacking now though, lol
[2014/07/10 15:49] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): How about a Skrillx game instead?
[2014/07/10 15:49] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): The object is to let go of a fish
[2014/07/10 15:49] Simon Linden: DMCA bait, Coyot :)
[2014/07/10 15:49] Kennylex Luckless: From the old days, very old days.
[2014/07/10 15:50] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): Hm, maybe you could ask Dolphin about that, Lucia
[2014/07/10 15:50] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): H,a Simon
[2014/07/10 15:50] I am not a furry (coyot.linden): (to be clear, that was by no means a serious suggestion)
[2014/07/10 15:50] Rex Cronon: from what i understand now u can get paid from games of "skill". right?
[2014/07/10 15:50] Rex Cronon: its all legal
[2014/07/10 15:51] Simon Linden: Guys, we really can't discuss the skilled gaming details here ... none of us are lawyers or able to judge some of the issues here
[2014/07/10 15:52] Mæstro Linden (maestro.linden): However we can point you to some of the documents which have been published with the announcement
[2014/07/10 15:52] Simon Linden: There are lots of ways to dig into the details ... most of which I don't understand myself:

[2014/07/10 15:52] Kallista Arliss (kallista.destiny): In California Draw Poker is a 'game of skill' by law.
[2014/07/10 15:52] Whirly Fizzle: haha you had that so ready
