[13:02] Elite Runner: lol
[13:02] Flenser Juergens: Hi Torley. Feel like I've known you a long time, watching all those videos.
[13:02] Youri Ashton: thats why i never will loose that cord :p
[13:03] xstorm Radek: did i hear torley say free av's for every one ?
[13:03] Youri Ashton: hi jeremy!
[13:03] Youri Ashton has pinged you.
[13:03] Jeremy Linden: Yeah, I tend to like peripherals I don't have to maintain :-)
[13:03] Jeremy Linden: Hi, everyone!
[13:03] Dawny Daviau: Hi jeremy
[13:03] Dawny Daviau has pinged you.
[13:03] Jim Korpov: Hey jeremy
[13:03] Jim Korpov has pinged you.
[13:03] LisaHot Juran: Hello
[13:03] xstorm Radek: hi jeremy
[13:03] xstorm Radek has pinged you.
[13:03] Geerkil Ziskey: I want my free one
[13:03] Torley Linden: Golly Flenser, that's a nice thing to hear. :)
[13:03] Torley Linden: Good to see you in-avatar!
[13:03] Elite Runner: Hi Jeremy Linden
[13:03] Elite Runner has pinged you.
[13:03] Elite Runner: Hi Torley Linden
[13:04] Youri Ashton: oh torley, perhaps you know more about this subject, i saw your vid about it and ever since i see hardly any news about it
[13:04] Youri Ashton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v45EOma7wDo&hl=nl
[13:04] Youri Ashton: could you please enlighten us?
[13:04] Elite Runner: THIS IS ELITE 3000! 100 CHOIS A GRAND! POWERED UP ALL WAYS! E3K IS ON YOUR SIDE!
[13:04] Elite Runner: http://elite-3000.webs.com
[13:04] Torley Linden: This DiNovo Edge is actually the first wireless keyboard I've owned. Battery life is pretty good on the whole but I tend to run it down... all that pesky typing.
[13:04] Geerkil Ziskey: I do not have a Jermey Linden TGeddy bear for my collection
[13:04] Youri Ashton: o_0
[13:04] Torley Linden: Youri, that's a great question. I haven't been close on the OpenGrid front, but let me see if there's an update...
[13:05] xstorm Radek: torley befor i forget can you please drop a free texture board that you made off in corfeld please :-)
[13:05] Youri Ashton: please do!
[13:05] Youri Ashton: Love to know more about that
[13:05] Geerkil Ziskey accepted your inventory offer.
[13:05] Geerkil Ziskey: Thank you very much
[13:05] xstorm Radek: hi Kate
[13:05] Youri Ashton: I was reading somewhere about a offline place as well for residents
[13:05] Youri Ashton: hi kate!
[13:05] Kate Linden: Hello hello !
[13:05] Dawny Daviau: Hi kate
[13:05] Elite Runner: Hi Kate Linden
[13:05] Dawny Daviau always smiles when hearing Torley talk
[13:06] Arawn Spitteler: I wonder how I wound up on that plate
[13:06] Geerkil Ziskey: I have never been to one of these meetings, what are the procedures for opening discussion?
[13:06] Torley Linden: Hm, the mailing list has been quiet. ( http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/OpenGrid_Mailing_List ) Youri, I'd suggest asking Whump Linden about it, he'd know a lot more.
[13:06] Torley Linden: Please send friendship requests to my alt, Torley Olmstead, thanks... :-D
[13:06] Kate Linden: Hi everyone, still rezzing here :)
[13:06] Torley Linden: xstorm, which texture board? Torley Textures, the one and only!
[13:06] Youri Ashton: hmm... okay, thanks a lot torley!
[13:06] xstorm Radek: oh kate i know how to get a great working inworld wiki board working now :-)
[13:06] Torley Linden: Oh we're pretty relaxed Geerkil, if you have a question about what we do (documentation and stuff!) go ahead and ask it. :)
[13:06] xstorm Radek: yes torley your texture board
[13:06] Kate Linden: oh do share xstorm
[13:06] Jim Korpov: Oh sup kate
[13:07] Torley Linden: So, our Documentation Team runs the Tips & Tricks blog — http://secondlife.com/tnt along with the Knowledge Base — http://secondlife.com/kb and soon the Knowledge Base will be on http://wiki.secondlife.com for greater ease-of-use and allow for Resident contributions.
[13:07] Youri Ashton: torley a furry now? ow my, thats something i havnt seen before! looks good torley!
[13:07] Marianne McCann: Hiya
[13:07] LisaHot Juran: Hey Mari
[13:07] xstorm Radek: we have a store and wish to have a free board for corsica there
[13:07] Kate Linden: whoa chat delay
[13:07] Torley Linden: Youri, I've been a furry before too. Hee hee. Different kinds!
[13:07] Youri Ashton: hey marianne
[13:07] Dawny Daviau: hi Marianne
[13:07] Torley Linden: xstorm, sent.
[13:07] xstorm Radek: ty :-)
[13:08] Torley Linden: I reckon I've been every kind of avatar archetype here, from neko to tiny.
[13:08] Jim Korpov: rofl
[13:08] Arawn Spitteler: As long as it can be done over in Watermelon
[13:08] Torley Linden: I hungrily await new trends to do my own take on those, but really, avatar self-expression is lovely. I enjoy seeing how each of you have customized yourself.
[13:08] Marianne McCann has never seen "Kid Torley"
[13:08] Torley Linden: This is true, Arawn.
[13:08] Marianne McCann winks
[13:08] Geerkil Ziskey: I had a recent encounter with the ancient Pow box the Mario bouncy things, millionsd of them, lagged me so bad I had a hard time getting control, there has to be someway top overcome the lag temproarly untill you can get things sorted
[13:08] Torley Linden: There's been Kid Torley! And the transformation machine upon a time, too. There was "Little Doctor Torley" as well but that was more chibi-anime-thing.
[13:09] Marianne McCann: Ah, true!
[13:09] Jim Korpov: Has there ever been a daemon torley? lol
[13:09] xstorm Radek: kate i found a old php help board that may fit the bill for a working inworld wiki page that more then one person can use
[13:09] Torley Linden: It's funny because my electronic music moniker used to be "Techno Kid". ^_^
[13:09] Marianne McCann hopes the world rezzes in
[13:09] Torley Linden: Jim, yes, and dragon one too.
[13:09] Jim Korpov: haha nice
[13:09] Torley Linden: Oh Geerkil, in those cases, hiding particles should help. Know how to do that?
[13:09] Torley Linden: Particles (including bouncy Marios) are Viewer-side and can be controlled so they're all hidden.
[13:09] Elite Runner: sorry I was interrupted
[13:10] Geerkil Ziskey: SHIFt-CTRL-Alt-2
[13:10] Marianne McCann: That avvie, Torley, is the second one I met you in, I think. Way back at a photo event with the Snapzilla crowd at the old NoHoRoBa shopping area
[13:10] Kate Linden: xstorm, are you planning to add the Category:Knowledge Base page to click article links from the help board?
[13:10] Geerkil Ziskey: or 3
[13:10] Youri Ashton: there, sended that to whump :)
[13:10] Torley Linden: Close, Geerkil! That's hiding alpha, particles has an "=" at the end. In the View menu it shows.
[13:10] Elite Runner: ok
[13:10] Torley Linden: Mari, you have a superb memory.
[13:10] Marianne McCann: Thankoo
[13:11] Youri Ashton: jon late again i see =)
[13:11] Torley Linden: Alas Jon (our Jello leader) won't be able to make it today.
[13:11] Marianne McCann: Aww...
[13:11] Youri Ashton: ah okay :p
[13:11] Marianne McCann: Hey Maggie
[13:11] Geerkil Ziskey: is there a text or indtrunction thingy that I can download to fond out all this
[13:11] Youri Ashton: next time better i guess :)
[13:12] Maggie Darwin: Yo Marianne
[13:12] Flenser Juergens: Is there anyplace online where there's information on dealing with the various griefing stuff? I've been lucky but it's only a matter of time before I'm tearing my hair out at an attaack too.
[13:12] Dawny Daviau: hi maggie
[13:12] Jonathan Yap: Torley, have you thought about giving out a welcome packet to new avatars?
[13:12] Maggie Darwin: (still rezzing here)
[13:12] Torley Linden: Geerkil, what are you looking for? We have a Knowledge Base guide to beacons (incl. particles).
[13:12] xstorm Radek: oh drats assets problems yet again :-S
[13:12] Kate Linden: Flenser, there are helpful articles in the Knowledge Base :)
[13:12] Torley Linden: I'd highly recommend http://secondlife.com/kb  !
[13:12] Flenser Juergens chuckles as Geerkil said what he was still ttyping.
[13:12] Torley Linden: Jonathan, yes, and on a related note, the Quick Start Guide is also available from our website.
[13:12] Youri Ashton: jona: there are free things that new residents can pick up at the help islands
[13:12] Arawn Spitteler: Are there any helpful hints in Alexandria's Inventory?
[13:13] Elite Runner: Whoa. My CPU was high
[13:13] Melchizedek Blauvelt: Flenser, the main weapon against griefers is indifference
[13:13] Flenser Juergens: Only had one major crash in Dover anmd that was an acident - someone rezzed too many bouncing balls and lost control.
[13:13] Torley Linden: If you login @ http://secondlife.com then click "What's Next?" in the top menu nav bar thing... that has handy links to the Quick Start Guide, our Tips & Tricks blog and more.
[13:14] Torley Linden: Earlier today I asked peeps what their fave alt-viewer feature was. Desperately curious, I was.
[13:14] Elite Runner: yeah griefers are bad
[13:14] Torley Linden: As they say, "Don't feed the trolls." :)
[13:14] Jonathan Yap: I'm using Cool Viewer
[13:14] Elite Runner: SnowGlobe?
[13:14] Maggie Darwin: "Worn" page. Avatar radar,
[13:14] Torley Linden: Yes, both of those count, Jonathan and Elite.
[13:14] Melchizedek Blauvelt: I married Emerald
[13:14] Youri Ashton: you have also default library items in your inventory, this is equal to all residents
[13:14] Arif Emor: no fav alt as yet, just started using Hippo
[13:14] Torley Linden: Hahaha Melchizedek, that's a testimonial! :)
[13:14] Melchizedek Blauvelt: :)
[13:15] Maggie Darwin: @Torley blocked me on Twitter, so if he Tweets anything useful, I'll never know
[13:15] Arif Emor: lol
[13:15] Jim Korpov: lol
[13:15] Youri Ashton: lol
[13:15] earss Razorfen: ?
[13:15] s translator: ?
[13:15] Arif Emor: I have a question about land auctions.
[13:16] Arif Emor: Sometimes I see land for auction on the map. But it won't show up when searching it on the website to bid. Why is this?
[13:16] Torley Linden: Surely you're jesting, Maggie... you're no GOLD4LINDENS spammer!
[13:16] Geerkil Ziskey: I have one more question for you. My ATI HD 3870 card does not seem to like SL, is there a fix?
[13:16] Youri Ashton: so, any specific topic today?
[13:17] Maggie Darwin: Wish I was.
[13:17] Basic Chair: Right click me and choose 'Sit Here' to sit down
[13:17] Maggie Darwin: "You have been blocked from following this account at the request of the user."
[13:17] Youri Ashton: did you place a offending message perhaps?
[13:17] Jeremy Linden: Gold4Lindens? I want gold!
[13:17] Maggie Darwin: How would I know?
[13:18] Jonathan Yap: What do you mean eactly about your ATI card not working?
[13:18] s wondering where to get help on LinkSys Vaguaries, but that's another subject: Is anyone placing messages?
[13:18] Marianne McCann: Ya, but it's probably prim gold
[13:18] Dawny Daviau: I use the 3870 too
[13:18] Torley Linden: Hmmmmm Maggie can you please email me (via http://torley.wufoo.com/forms/contact-torley-about-second-life/ is best) I'll check on it. I apologize if it was an error!
[13:19] Youri Ashton: the ATI 3870 series have faulty drivers, i have the X2 version
[13:19] Arif Emor: .....guess nobody knows about the mystery land parcels for auctions.....
[13:19] Arawn Spitteler: Jack would be a good person to ask
[13:19] Torley Linden: I did block several SL folk as they insisted on DMing me support queries in an oddly trollish way after I referred them to http://secondlife.com/support
[13:19] Dawny Daviau: i use the 9.2 drivers and have no problems at all
[13:19] Rihanna Laasonen: Arif, parcels can go purple long before they are scheduled for auction.
[13:19] Arawn Spitteler: Jeremy might be looking up the reference
[13:19] Arawn Spitteler has pinged you.
[13:20] Torley Linden: Arif, oh, I generalize here, but that's sometimes because the inworld map takes awhile to update, slower than the website.
[13:20] Flenser Juergens: Is possible that different parts of the system aren't sharing information about land.
[13:20] Arif Emor: Thanks. Did not know this.
[13:20] Kate Linden: Arif, land may be marked inworld for auction but needs to be processed internally. You can search the auction number in the search tool to see when it's available. There is a KB article about abandoned land that is helpful also.
[13:20] Jonathan Yap: The more recent versions of Cool Viewer improved my frame rate quite a bit, moreso in less busy areas
[13:20] Elite Runner: ok
[13:20] Jeremy Linden: Sorry Arif... We're best suited to answering questions about our help materials. We're less good at knowing about or fixing bugs in the software :-)
[13:20] Flenser Juergens: Yeah - took almost 20 hours for the map to register my changes in position of Dover.
[13:20] Arif Emor: I've seen the auction number when I tp there.
[13:20] Torley Linden: The Snowglobe map updates faster (I think), it certainly loads quicker.
[13:20] Maggie Darwin: (@Torley: done)
[13:20] Torley Linden: Thanks Maggie, I'll check soon.
[13:21] Arif Emor: Okay thanks.
[13:21] Clifford Market: may i ask what the subject of the topic is thats going on here?
[13:21] Maggie Darwin: For folks that know me: I'm @MaggieL ... and Twitterbox rocks.
[13:21] Elite Runner: I'm @Elite3000 on Twitter
[13:21] Youri Ashton: Preferences -> Grapics tab -> hardware options knop -> turn 'Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects' off (uncheck it)
[13:21] Niky Zenovka: hellos....
[13:21] Brockland Burner: •´¨*•.¸. HahahaA •´¨*•.¸.
[13:21] Brockland Burner: so dose moon romance
[13:21] Jeremy Linden: Hi Clifford. This is Documentation Office Hours... We're basically holding an open forum for anything related to our help/Knowledge Base documentation.
[13:22] Geerkil Ziskey: My game system, which is much better then this POC has an ATI HD-3870 card that does weird graphics here, is there a fix to this?
[13:22] Marianne McCann is @marimccann (amongst others)
[13:22] Torley Linden: Geerkil, are you on newest stable drivers? 3870 is supported IIRC.
[13:22] Dawny Daviau: @dawnycinquetti
[13:22] Maggie Darwin: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Twitter <--userful page
[13:22] Torley Linden: For fixing bugs I'd recommend the Bug Hunters Office Hours http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_Triage
[13:22] Youri Ashton: geerkill, use the tip i typed
[13:22] Jeremy Linden: @Jeremy_Linden
[13:22] Jeremy Linden has pinged you.
[13:23] Youri Ashton: its your OpenGL vertex buffer that is causing problems
[13:23] Geerkil Ziskey: they are what ATI has
[13:23] Elite Runner: So when Windows 7 releases, is Second Life Windows 7 compliant?
[13:23] Jeremy Linden: (Not to be confused with @jeremylinden. He got all confused when I was tweeting at #SLCC)!
[13:23] Jeremy Linden has pinged you.
[13:23] Youri Ashton: also make sure you update your drivers to the latest version
[13:23] Dawny Daviau: seen that lol
[13:23] Arawn Spitteler: That depends on how soon one of the Devs gets Windows 7
[13:23] Torley Linden: Yeah there's got to be better Second Life <-> Twitter name mapping.
[13:23] Geerkil Ziskey: how do I turn off open GL?
[13:23] Youri Ashton: Preferences -> Grapics tab -> hardware options knop -> zet 'Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects' uit
[13:24] Dawny Daviau: check for the eyes hehe
[13:24] Marianne McCann: I know this prob;em, Jeremy. in other places I have the handle "mmccann," so sometimes people reference that on twitter, too
[13:24] Marianne McCann has pinged you.
[13:24] Youri Ashton: (english) Preferences -> Grapics tab -> hardware options knop -> turn 'Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects' off (uncheck it)
[13:24] Elite Runner: And is SL Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard compliant?
[13:24] LisaHot Juran: Kiosks...I talked with Pathfinder...Noting there are no "education" kiosks for an info hub.
[13:24] Torley Linden: Elite, likely like Vista, it'll take a period of stability to ensure compatibility, like other apps. So I wouldn't say it happens *right* away. But eventually, yes.
[13:24] Elite Runner: whoa chat delay
[13:24] Niky Zenovka: Hope it runs faster on Snow Leopard....
[13:24] sudan Yuhara: wasup ppl
[13:24] Torley Linden: I'm not even on Snow Leopard yet but our System Requirements page could use a refresh, yes. :)
[13:25] Maggie Darwin: Hope it leaks memory less on Win7
[13:25] Youri Ashton: geerkil, make sure you relog to get the lag out. else you will crash again
[13:25] Torley Linden: Some have pointed out it doesn't even list the NVIDIA GeForce 9xxx or 2xx series and that's astute.
[13:25] Maggie Darwin: Like I'm going to upgrade. :-)
[13:25] Marianne McCann: I hope Snow Leopard might help for a better SL experience down the line. Sure sounded like Apple was pushing for more game stuff today. Maybe they'll also work more with VWs, too.
[13:25] Jeremy Linden nods at Torley: The system requirements page is what we officially support, but that doesn't mean other hardware and operatings systems won't work.
[13:25] Youri Ashton: im not upgrading as well, i just buy a new pc with time
[13:26] Geerkil Ziskey: Let me try to do that now, it will help with the lag
[13:26] Youri Ashton: please do
[13:26] Arawn Spitteler wishes Time were so negotiable
[13:26] Youri Ashton: else you will perhaps gain blue screens like i had
[13:26] Torley Linden: History has taught me to not leap onto new software revisions immediately, I wait for bugs to be shaken out. I didn't move to Vista until SP2, and I'm still on Leopard because of multimedia incompatibilities.
[13:26] Elite Runner: OMG the BSOD?
[13:26] Niky Zenovka: SL on my MacBook with regular Leopard shows CPU: i386 (Unknown)... funny
[13:27] Torley Linden: Ah yes Niky, About Second Life doesn't reveal the specific processor.
[13:27] Youri Ashton: i didnt have a choise, XP wasnt for sale here anymore :(
[13:27] Clifford Market: BSOD?
[13:27] Marianne McCann: Ya Torley. I haven't made the Snow Leopard jump cuz of money an cuz I am worried about CS2 compatibility
[13:27] Youri Ashton: i got kicked on vista directly
[13:27] Maggie Darwin: Blue Screen Of Death
[13:27] Youri Ashton: indeed maggie
[13:27] Flenser Juergens: oh my... I guess that must make me ultraconservative then - I'm sticking with XP.
[13:27] Youri Ashton: blua screen and complete crash (reboot)
[13:27] Torley Linden: i386 is kind of confusing because it tells you it's an Intel, but deceptively, a really old one. ;) If anyone remembers when 286s and 386s were the norm... and the dawn of the first Pentium!
[13:27] Youri Ashton: i got x64 torley ;)
[13:27] Jeremy Linden: I'm still on XP, but I've been playing with the Windows 7 RC and I like it!
[13:27] Jonathan Yap: Torley, I still have a PC Portable in storage :)
[13:28] Niky Zenovka: 386 were like in the end of 80's...
[13:28] Maggie Darwin: i386 simply means Intel architecture
[13:28] Niky Zenovka: It's really deceptive...
[13:28] Maggie Darwin: 32 bit
[13:28] Kate Linden: 286 with 4mb RAM?
[13:28] Torley Linden: Processors are still very much a marketing fuzz.
[13:28] Jim Korpov: Sorry went afk phone
[13:28] Niky Zenovka: But should at least show i586 or something else
[13:28] Torley Linden: Emulation is a LOT of fun, though!
[13:28] Niky Zenovka: Windows shows right
[13:28] Niky Zenovka: I guess
[13:28] Youri Ashton: CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (2999 MHz)

Memory: 4095 MB

[13:28] Jeremy Linden: Ahem. One moment, I think I see something going on in OI Public that shouldn't be. I'll be right back.
[13:28] Niky Zenovka: Cool
[13:28] Torley Linden: I've been following the saga of the C64 emulator on iPhone... took quite awhile to get approved, then pulled again due to the BASIC easter egg!
[13:33] Voice not available at your current location
[13:33] Kate Linden: I had my head down on projects yesterday and today and will get some questions out first thing tomorrow :)
[13:33] Maggie Darwin: Sure, log in to a sim weraing a boatload of scripts compiled to Mono. :-)
[13:33] Arawn Spitteler: An african or European Prim Sparrow?
[13:33] Jonathan Yap: What is the terminal velocity of a falling avatar?
[13:33] Kate Linden: Hey Fisher, welcome :)
[13:33] Fisher Linden: thanks, Kate!
[13:34] Arawn Spitteler: Is that on the imits Page?
[13:34] Youri Ashton: hey fisher!
[13:34] Jonathan Yap: I just thought that one up
[13:34] Fisher Linden: Hey again, Youri!
[13:34] Torley Linden: All limits of our known virtual world should be on http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Limits  !
[13:34] Marianne McCann: Hey Fisher? Have I nagged you yet this week about getting a bear?
[13:34] Marianne McCann giggles
[13:35] Torley Linden: Oh, someone added a pretty height counter error... interesting...
[13:35] Ramona Criss: Hello all ㋡
[13:35] Clifford Market: *:•. "Lag, Lag, Lag Lag Lag, Lag, Lag .•:*
[13:35] Torley Linden: Someone also botched formatting so I need to fix that.
[13:35] Clifford Market: *:•."LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGG!!!!!!!.•:*
[13:35] Youri Ashton: YAY!! SIM LAG!!
[13:35] Torley Linden: Pardon the time dilaaaaattti-i-i-ion
[13:35] Jim Korpov: Oh I have a question. Do you help with server problems?
[13:35] xstorm Radek: *GIGGLES* :)~~~~
[13:35] Marianne McCann: Lag lag lag lag lag!
[13:35] Arawn Spitteler: L:ag? Has it arrived in Second Laugh?
[13:36] Marianne McCann: "Second Laugh." I like the sound of that
[13:36] Brockland Burner: LAG LAG LAG
[13:36] Niky Zenovka: "I lag, therefore I am"
[13:36] Marianne McCann: Lag happens.
[13:36] Flenser Juergens: Sometimes I think the Lag Monster's home is in Dover - we struggle with horrible lag there at times.
[13:36] Brockland Burner: ya all the time
[13:36] Clifford Market: YEAH ALL THE TIME!!!
[13:36] LisaHot Juran: hehe...this is nothin. Try being in Hau Koda
[13:36] Brockland Burner: •´¨*•.¸. HahahaA •´¨*•.¸.
[13:37] Marianne McCann: My imaginary friend is named "lag." She follows me to all the big events
[13:37] Maggie Darwin: Hau Koda is silly.
[13:37] Flenser Juergens: I suppose I could disable scripts in the sim but that wouldn't be fun.
[13:37] Torley Linden: Flenser, then we must scare that damn monster out of his cave. And beat him viciously, with the finest plywood in Middle-Virtual-Earth!
[13:37] Brockland Burner: l,ol
[13:37] Flenser Juergens: THat or use the Holy Hand Grenade of Ateoche on him.
[13:37] Dawny Daviau: lol
[13:37] Jonathan Yap: Torley, have you done a TNT on setting maximum bandwidth? It seems when I have mine set over my network speed things don't work very well
[13:38] Clifford Market: SL ( STINKING LAG )
[13:38] Youri Ashton: lol
[13:38] Marianne McCann: RL me lives in Antioch, but we don't have any Holy hand grenades
[13:38] Jim Korpov: lol
[13:38] Your feets are swollen you must have a seat and relax
[13:38] Maggie Darwin: Well, they're perishable.
[13:38] Arawn Spitteler: Aunty Ouch?
[13:38] Torley Linden: Jonathan, I haven't, but that's expected behavior — lower it if you get packet loss. However, I note I hardly ever sustain at the maximum amount and I have more than 1500 kbps throughput! So it's somewhat wonky and needs to be more accurate, but there's a lot of complexity underneath.
[13:38] Torley Linden: Jonathan, also, have you tried Help menu > Lag Meter?
[13:39] Torley Linden: (Yes, such a thing does exist.)
[13:39] Thend Destiny: Lol
[13:39] Brockland Burner: •´¨*•.¸. HahahaA •´¨*•.¸.
[13:39] Niky Zenovka: What is the ideal number in that bandwidth settings? Never know what to put in there
[13:39] Jonathan Yap: Yes, I'm pretty experienced with networking, so know how to measure my speed and adjust the setting
[13:39] Techwolf Lupindo: I rarly get over 1200 even though I set it to 8M
[13:39] Arawn Spitteler: I think it depends on what you're doing
[13:39] Niky Zenovka: If it is assymetric connection, use the upload figure which is the lowest?
[13:39] Maggie Darwin: Lag Meter, which combines several performance parameters you don;t understand into a few perfectly opaque numbers.
[13:40] Jonathan Yap: It's my gut impression that if your network speed is set too high you will get poor(er) response
[13:40] Brockland Burner: i ues mine a lot
[13:40] Youri Ashton: just received word from whump
[13:40] Brockland Burner: use*
[13:40]
[13:36] Whump Linden: That was work we did last summer as part of the Open Grid Public Beta. At the moment our focus is on protocol development, see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Infinity_Linden/IETF_Drafts_and_Meetings
[13:41] Torley Linden: Good to know, thanks Youri.
[13:41] Niky Zenovka: That bandwidth config is for the download rate only?
[13:41] Youri Ashton: no problem
[13:41] Torley Linden: I've tried Snowglobe's Max. Bandwidth @ 5000 kbps and haven't seen it that high, either.
[13:41] Maggie Darwin: May crash soon from memory leak
[13:41] Jonathan Yap: I think so Niky, it tells the SL servers how much data you can accept at once
[13:41] Thend Destiny: (Hello all :) Sorry I'm late)
[13:42] Youri Ashton: YAY!! SIM LAG!!
[13:42] Youri Ashton: not getting any wiser from it yet tho, but oh well, ill read that later :p
[13:42] Torley Linden: I believe so but am not 100% certain, Niky.
[13:42] Niky Zenovka: Because, I think should have an upload setting too
[13:42] Niky Zenovka: I have 6M download but upoad is like 640K only
[13:43] Torley Linden: What a nice shade of purple, Spikeheila!
[13:43] Flenser Juergens: Oh, a purple velociraptor.
[13:43] Thend Destiny: Heh heh
[13:43] Spikeheila Kyger: Thankies
[13:43] Maggie Darwin: Unlikely you're able to general muc upload traffic on a sustained basis.
[13:44] Youri Ashton: interresting lizzard :)
[13:44] Jim Korpov: lol
[13:44] Niky Zenovka: Perhaps SL expects same upload rate as download, which is not true, leading to network issues? Maybe should have separate settings
[13:44] Maggie Darwin: Must relog.
[13:44] Jim Korpov: Where'd you get it from?
[13:44] Youri Ashton: hb
[13:44] Torley Linden: Niky, AFAIK, that shouldn't happen.
[13:44] Flenser Juergens: Inspite of the feathery raptor I'm still showing 4 fps.
[13:45] Spikeheila Kyger: Get what? This av?
[13:45] Torley Linden: But I do agree there should be more light shed on Maximum Bandwidth and related settings.
[13:45] Clifford Market: *:•. "Lag, Lag, Lag Lag Lag, Lag, Lag .•:*
[13:45] Clifford Market: *:•."LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGG!!!!!!!.•:*
[13:45] Flenser Juergens: AT&T upgraded equipment but my line is still old and cann't go too fast.
[13:45] Torley Linden: Someone could make a song about lag and strike it big.
[13:45] Jonathan Yap: Flenser, you should do an internet speed test and set your network speed in SL accordingly
[13:46] Ramona Criss: aww don't cry coz is lag i 've never seen an online game without lag ㋡
[13:46] Torley Linden: It could be chopped & screwed like the hip-hop style.
[13:46] Thend Destiny: For sure lol
[13:46] Niky Zenovka: And there is also the infamous situation of Packet shaping... just hope ISPs don't shape traffic for Sl.
[13:46] Niky Zenovka: :p
[13:46] Brockland Burner feels aches throught her body as the little baby continues to grow.
[13:46] Flenser Juergens: Is set already - I'm matched to what DSL can provide.
[13:46] Jeremy Linden: "Lag in the place where you work..."
[13:46] Maggie Darwin: Well, way too much of SL traffic rides on UDP
[13:46] Thend Destiny: Will the SL be able to scale up with increased membership? Like, if we get to WoW numbers?
[13:46] Niky Zenovka: Lag is good... means you didn't crash... lol
[13:46] Jim Korpov: Thank god we don't have lag irl. rofl
[13:47] Torley Linden: Lag IRL is called traffic jam.
[13:47] Ramona Criss: loll Niky
[13:47] Jim Korpov: hahahaha
[13:47] Torley Linden: ;)
[13:47] Arawn Spitteler: Ultimately, Drop Packets
[13:47] Flenser Juergens: Oh, Geerkil is back.
[13:47] Spikeheila Kyger: Geer,yay
[13:47] Thend Destiny: Are we looking at a Viewer 3.0, a full re-work?
[13:47] Maggie Darwin: Oh, I look at the numbers now and say "wow". ;-)
[13:47] Youri Ashton: think the leaks should be fixed before changing anything. I have a 20MB line and SL manages to use up most of it while online for some reason. so there must be a leak in several viewers
[13:47] Arawn Spitteler: First Lag? That's where people look for Jobs
[13:47] Jim Korpov: Well you don't go off world. :P
[13:47] Torley Linden: That is awesome awesome sculpty-ing, Geerkil.
[13:47] Thend Destiny: Maggie, I agree ;) But thinking ahead
[13:47] Niky Zenovka: Nice tail, Mr. Lizard... don't whip me
[13:47] Niky Zenovka: lol
[13:47] Torley Linden: Thend, it'll be Viewer 2.0 first. But yes, it'll involve substantial changes.
[13:48] Maggie Darwin: The Viewer definately leaks memory, and it leaks it worse on multicore.
[13:48] Torley Linden: Viewer 2.0 is the same as "Viewer 2009" if you've heard any of those mentioned before.
[13:48] Thend Destiny: Awesome to hear Torley.. I think SL can only get bigger and better
[13:48] Maggie Darwin: Seems like a thread safety issue.
[13:48] Thend Destiny nods.. Yes, Viewer 2009 or something
[13:48] xstorm Radek: i need to turn up my lod for the sculpty to show right
[13:48] Youri Ashton: the 2010 viewer?
[13:48] Marianne McCann is pretty excited abotu 2,0, but also pretty nervous about t
[13:48] Torley Linden: I'm thrilled you think so, Thend!
[13:49] Geerkil Ziskey: thanks for the info, this seems to work much better with OpenGL off
[13:49] Youri Ashton: told ya
[13:49] Geerkil Ziskey: Hello again everyone
[13:49] xstorm Radek: wow
[13:49] Ramona Criss: hi
[13:49] Thend Destiny: Torley, Qarl thought I might drop this question on you lol - I'm interested in developing with LL a sort of Explorers Wiki
[13:49] Niky Zenovka: thrilled to hear that Torley
[13:49] xstorm Radek: Geerkil thats a great av
[13:49] Torley Linden: There's a number of really big projects right now that'll make it seem like stuff is quiet... but it's really Lindens passionately working away at them. Like the recent webdesign, which required so many changes (not just front-end pretty stuff but upgrades to Land Store, billing mechanics, etc.), is a big example.
[13:49] Jonathan Yap: Geerkil, did your frame rate go up?
[13:49] Jim Korpov: Will the default sl client ever have features that are in emerald such as the radar?
[13:49] Maggie Darwin: The viewer needs OpenGL. You turned off one of the OpenGL features.
[13:49] Youri Ashton: LL doesnt even look at my point, if it helps out you as well, then i dont see a problem in looking into that further
[13:50] Thend Destiny: Like, a resident-updated and maintained Wiki that lists ALL the locations, businesses, residents, etc, all in one place
[13:50] Youri Ashton: OpenGL vertex buffer objects
[13:50] Torley Linden: Thend, Qarl has referred you to the right Linden! Hehe! So what do you already have and are you familiar with http://wiki.secondlife.com  ?
[13:50] Youri Ashton: you can turn that off in preferences
[13:50] Geerkil Ziskey: Thank you Torley
[13:50] Thend Destiny: Mostly familiar, yes, Torley.. But I mean, like, a dedicated Wiki, possibly seperate from that andc easier to navigate, more focused
[13:51] Torley Linden: I think it's hard to keep so much stuff updated, but by all means, some places and groups would benefit from an extensive description of their history and culture. To be chronicled on the wiki. Over time I hope we have better integration with info available inworld, and http://maps.secondlife.com is the overhauled SLURL page, too.
[13:51] Youri Ashton: the OpenGL vertex buffer is nothing more then making things prettier, but infact does the oppesite and messes things further up
[13:51] Geerkil Ziskey: checking
[13:51] Torley Linden: Hmmm Thend there's a Resident-run wiki @ Wikia. But Linden Lab are focused on http://wiki.secondlife.com  :)
[13:51] Torley Linden: You can always create a portal or sub-section!
[13:51] Thend Destiny: rl folks coming in, and reesidents here, know Wikis intuitively.. I believe it'd help the integration and understandin/comfort-factor
[13:51] Marianne McCann: The WIkia one is the old SL History wiki, too
[13:52] Geerkil Ziskey: up to 7.6
[13:52] Youri Ashton: told ya
[13:52] Torley Linden: Already I know some alt-viewer developers are setting up their own wikis to document their progress.
[13:52] d like an algorythm for something that's more focused in each frame opf reference
[13:52] Geerkil Ziskey: but does not look bad like on that other POC computer
[13:52] Thend Destiny: I'll check that Wikia out, thanks
[13:53] Youri Ashton: i know what im doing if it comes to PC's, I have almost 14 years knowlage and experience in it
[13:53] Arawn Spitteler: Time for a new PC
[13:53] Marianne McCann: I often dig into WIkia and other sources for historical info on various builds. Got a lot of the info on Yamato from there
[13:53] Niky Zenovka: brb
[13:53] Thend Destiny: I think it's in LL's benefit, and for all of us, personally.. A kind of portal.. And the time is right
[13:53] Torley Linden: Thend, you're welcome. One advantage of http://wiki.secondlife.com is our official Knowledge Base will be moving there soon, making it easier to cross-link and connect related articles that already exist.
[13:53] Youri Ashton: each year its time to get a new pc :p
[13:53] Jim Korpov: Rofl
[13:54] Maggie Darwin: You worked on the Yamato, Marianne?
[13:54] Jim Korpov: That's why I built mine
[13:54] Brockland Burner: wow big crasch
[13:54] Jim Korpov: I just keep updating the parts.
[13:54] Torley Linden: Doc Team (our fine folks here) are tasked with overseeing the Knowledge Base so we'll be on the Second Life Wiki a lot.
[13:54] Marianne McCann: No, Maggie, And not The Yamato (which is a great build), but Yamato Town, near Ahern
[13:54] Thend Destiny: Well, no saying it couldn't be a section of the SL Wiki, of course, just seprate for those who want specialized info, with links to Knowledge Base, LSL, etc
[13:54] Youri Ashton: i resendly added my own profile to SL wiki
[13:54] Youri Ashton: updating it soon again
[13:54] Maggie Darwin: Ah. Yes, the Yamato is spectacular.
[13:54] Torley Linden: *nods*
[13:54] Torley Linden: I like battleships with many details.
[13:55] Marianne McCann: By far, Maggie. That build is so amazing
[13:55] Youri Ashton: battleships can be hard to make, the hull is mostly the worst part to make
[13:55] Maggie Darwin: Gee, Youri, I have a personal computer that's 30 years old.
[13:55] Jim Korpov: rofl
[13:55] Thend Destiny: Cool Youri :) SL Wiki seems to cover everything, and its very, very useful.. Could be less inhibiting
[13:56] Torley Linden: I'm always interested in how people get into groups and become involved with knowledge-sharing tools. Sometimes you signup for a service because a friend told you. Othertimes you find it convenient and suits your needs. Yet othertimes it's awkward to use but is the only choice, or most popular. Or a mixture.
[13:56] Youri Ashton: everything older then 5 years will be trown out with me maggie :p
[13:56] Marianne McCann: Mine is only 25 years old, Maggie
[13:56] Jonathan Yap: Maggie, is it an Apple or a TRS-80?
[13:56] Youri Ashton: pc wise :p
[13:56] Jim Korpov: Do you play SL dos edition on it? :V
[13:56] Geerkil Ziskey: BRB need t head to the litter box
[13:56] Kate Linden: Thend, another benefit of info added to the SL wiki, is that it can be searched through inworld Search as well.
[13:56] Torley Linden: It's hard to imagine a time when a computer wasn't... personal. The timesharing days with room-sized behemoths came before me.
[13:56] Torley Linden: Great point, Kate.
[13:56] Maggie Darwin: well, it is of historical interest now. 16k with an 8-bit 2MHz CPU
[13:56] Youri Ashton: this pc is now 2 and a half years old
[13:56] Thend Destiny: Different people want different things, and new residents and SL curious like ease of use, hence a dedicated, dynamically updated section
[13:57] Thend Destiny: I agree Kate.. That's important..
[13:57] Torley Linden: I encourage lightweight experiments — try something and see what response you get.
[13:57] Thend Destiny is all into immersion and stuff
[13:57] Torley Linden: There are wiki converters to translate wikicode from one platform to another.
[13:57] Arawn Spitteler: Ever see Star Trek, the Original Series? The Ship had a behemoth type computer, with terminals at every corner
[13:57] Torley Linden: Arawn, and all those crazy sounds! Hehe.
[13:58] Jonathan Yap: How about the opening sequence to the tv series UFO? That computer was the size of a space station
[13:58] Torley Linden: I still get irked when they show people playing MODERN video games with bleepy noises on TV, tho.
[13:58] Marianne McCann: And lots of encounters with unfriendly computers, too.
[13:58] Jim Korpov: lol
[13:58] Torley Linden: I haven't seen that, Jonathan. *makes a note* Earlier today I saw a fascinating article on sci-fi movie corridors!
[13:58] Maggie Darwin: First terminal I ever used: http://www.kekatos.com/teletype/gil/pics/M33-ASR-1.jpg
[13:58] Thend Destiny: Lol Jonathan, I remember that show..
[13:58] Jeremy Linden: Ever see Second Life running on an Apple II? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAZHJa91JHk
[13:58] Flenser Juergens: Is fun having evil computers around.
[13:58] Jim Korpov: Oh yeah I saw that.
[13:58] Spikeheila Kyger: I dunno, my computer is either humming a tune or growling at me :x
[13:59] Jim Korpov: SL looked great. rofl
[13:59] Marianne McCann: I demand tape drive support!
[13:59] Kate Linden: Did any of you ever watch the show La Femme Nikita? It was aired in the mid 90's I think. I recently watched a few episodes and had to laugh at the equipment that was back then, futuristic.
[13:59] Maggie Darwin: We're going to lose a *lot* of Star-Trek content as IP rules enforcement goes forward.
[13:59] Arawn Spitteler: In the 1960s, a transister was a single component, and they competed with Vaccuum Tubes. A TV that used Transisters was quite something
[13:59] Youri Ashton: aight, thank you doc team for this meeting! I will be off to the next meeting :)
[13:59] Thend Destiny: Kate, I'm rewatching that now! lol
[14:00] Marianne McCann: Maggie - I have one friend who makes bikes who has clsed his store entirely, afraid that some bike company will come after him
[14:00] Youri Ashton: bye bye all!
[14:00] Flenser Juergens: Was reading up on the SEAforth evaluation board early today - enough proc to have evil comuter personality plus good sound effects for when it chuckles maniacally.
[14:00] Thend Destiny: Brilliant stories and atomosphere
[14:00] Thend Destiny: Seeya Youri!
[14:00] Kate Linden: Thend, cool. I own all five seasons lol
