[13:02] Flenser Juergens: Lot of people now.
[13:02] Nathan Adored: Izzit just me, or has SL been laggier than usual lately?
[13:02] Flenser Juergens: Seems to come in waves - and in certain areas.
[13:02] Torley Linden: Becky thanks so much for https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Becky_Pippen/Shared_Media_LSL_Recipes  !
[13:02] Flenser Juergens: Been seeing good performance all afternoon.
[13:02] Torley Linden: Anyone with an interest in exploring Shared Media, I recommend checking Becky's page out... lots of goodness.
[13:02] Becky Pippen: my pleasure, Torley!
[13:03] Torley Linden: I liked the little touches like the animated lag graph too. ;)
[13:03] Nathan Adored: nice page. :D
[13:03] Torley Linden: A few people have already asked me about the "[edit] Display an image — works with animated GIFs too" so I've pointed them there.
[13:04] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: I have a suspicion that using HTTP for textures could trigger lag causes for some users.
[13:04] Cannabism TP Effect HUD: /me succesfull loaded...
[13:04] Torley Linden: Now I'll be resorting less to that old animated texture workaround!
[13:04] Torley Linden: If part of me is invisible don't get freaked out, I'm trying alpha masks. in Viewer 2... :)
[13:05] Ranos Brumer: Ahh
[13:05] Torley Linden has pinged you.
[13:05] Torley Linden: Heyhey Jeremy's here!
[13:05] Nathan Adored: is this animated gif technique something tha will work with per-SL2.0 viewers, or is ith is SL2.0 specific?
[13:05] Ranos Brumer: I did not mean to tp right in the middle.
[13:05] Torley Linden: Welcome everyone to our office hour!
[13:05] Jeremy Linden: Whassup?
[13:05] Torley Linden: Nathan, it's specific to Shared Media in Viewer 2.
[13:05] Nathan Adored: ah
[13:05] Gnome Inkpen: Yur invisiblenessity iz always ossome. :D
[13:05] Torley Linden: ^_^
[13:05] Ranos Brumer: Hey how is everyone?
[13:06] RvA Hax: Hey!
[13:06] SQAW Barbosa: *•.¸ HUHU ¸.•*
[13:06] Ranos Brumer: Love the look Torley.
[13:06] Nathan Adored: /me is still waiting for SL2.0 features to show up in future versions of Emerald.
[13:06] Torley Linden: There's enough pages on Shared Media to warrant their own list: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Shared Media including the guides Jeremy wrote earlier and Becky's page. Cool stuff about Shared Media should be linked to from there.
[13:06] Torley Linden has pinged you.
[13:06] Torley Linden: Thanks Ranos! Kinda... minimalist.
[13:06] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: Running Emerald, Torley, and I see chunks of you missing.
[13:06] Marianne McCann: Hiya
[13:06] Ranos Brumer: lol Thats whY i like it.
[13:06] Torley Linden: Yeah I'm partially invisible on purpose... ^_^
[13:07] Jeremy Linden: Previous viewers can see alpha masks, but you can only put them on yourself if you're on Viewer 2.0
[13:07] Nathan Adored: /me gives a lopsided smile.
[13:07] Ranos Brumer: Th enew Avatar alpha maps are great.
[13:07] Torley Linden: Right-click yourself, go to My Appearance, and play with Alpha tab... I tried Tattoo tab too, added a lens flare tattoo to my face for awhile. WOW WAS IT BRIGHT.
[13:07] Marianne McCann: Interesting, jeremy - I've had others tell me thaat hasn't worked for them on pre-v2 viewers.
[13:07] Marianne McCann has pinged you.
[13:07] Ranos Brumer: Been waiting for them to be implimented since I saw the original feature suggestion.
[13:07] RvA Hax: a great feature and improvement is the web2prim option, wich makes it interesting. I also think it's great 4 starters,, but the 'old' viwers r just ok 2me
[13:08] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: Jeremy, does that mean withing the Apparance Editor, or does it include pre-made skins?
[13:08] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot has pinged you.
[13:08] Jeremy Linden: Well, I should amend that. You can view alpha masks on viewer 1.23 and later.
[13:08] Marianne McCann: I'm only usin 2 anymore, but I might hafta do some tinkering
[13:08] Marianne McCann: I've used the tattoo layer to start doing face painting and cheek art. Lotsa fun
[13:08] Nathan Adored: /me smiles.
[13:08] Torley Linden: I've also been playing with Avatars United today... http://www.avatarsunited.com/avatars/torley , add me if you haven't already or I'll add you! Mwa ha ha!
[13:08] Torley Linden: Yeah that was a great rainbow you showed earlier, Mari.
[13:09] RvA Hax: blog bug is solved now @ AU ?
[13:09] Ranos Brumer: Been over a year since I last went to office hours. I think last one I went to was one of the tutorial ones Torley had at Here.
[13:09] Marianne McCann: Ya, been messin with the Bay City group page there, gettin ready for the Anniversary in May already
[13:09] Marianne McCann: Thankoo, Torley
[13:09] Torley Linden: Time, like avatars, flies.
[13:09] Asterion Coen: what i like with avatarunited, is the upload tool. i never succed to upload anything with
[13:10] Marianne McCann: Asterion, wait until the "green line" goes away. Most failures with uploads are simply because it is still processing
[13:10] Marianne McCann: Took me a while to learn that
[13:11] Torley Linden: I had an upload failure and had to retry. Some bugs we still gotta work out, and I'm passing them along to the right folks.
[13:11] Asterion Coen: i use yto have some "internal i/o server" or some barbarian error messages like that
[13:11] Kwame Oh: Good evening saw the invite from Torly on face book so came in to have a listen, hope you do not mind ?
[13:11] Marianne McCann: Ah, ya my brother had that one too, uploading backgrounds
[13:11] Nathan Adored: Ain't technology wunnerful? :D
[13:11] Torley Linden: And if there are any hot bugs or questions about the new appearance features like outfits and alpha masks, please say so! I've been helping Dessie Linden compile them for our Avatar Team peeps to answer
[13:11] Jeremy Linden: Welcome, Kwame! Everyone is welcome to stay, listen, and chat :-)
[13:12] Kwame Oh: Thank you :-)
[13:12] Asterion Coen: the good old ftp stuffs was fine enough
[13:12] Torley Linden: I don't mind at all, thanks for coming over, Kwame!
[13:12] Marianne McCann: I do like the blips app for AU, though. That's handy
[13:12] Torley Linden: Mari, and I'm hoping more noticed postcard problems with Blips will help draw attention to fixing that horrible bug!
[13:13] Torley Linden: If anyone here aren't familiar with what Jeremy and I are a part of on the Documentation Team, see... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Documentation_Team for background info :)
[13:13] Torley Linden has pinged you.
[13:13] Marianne McCann: Me too! I've been sending lots of folks to that one.
[13:13] Marianne McCann: Ditto the "___ received your inventory offer" bug
[13:13] Torley Linden: I've escalated https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-5387 internally especially because things like Avatars United are going to make increasing use of it...
[13:13] Torley Linden: Oh hm! What's the # for that second one, Mari? Sounds familiar.
[13:14] Marianne McCann: I did end up making that Bay City page last week, now working to get some of the other mainland communities (Nova Albion, etc.) on board with it
[13:14] Marianne McCann: Lemme grab it, Torley
[13:14] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: OK< I already raised the Q, maybe it was missed: New alpha-mapped skin textures: what happens if you try to load one as a pre-made skin, if you're not using Viewer 2,0 And have merchants been told?
[13:15] Marianne McCann: Torley (and others): http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-5411
[13:15] Eddi Decosta: hi Jerome ㋡
[13:15] Jeremy Linden: WolfBaginski, I'm actually not sure! Alpha masks are a new inventory type, and I haven't personally tested their effects if you try to wear one in an earlier viewer.
[13:16] Eddi Decosta: Jeremy*
[13:16] Eddi Decosta has pinged you.
[13:16] Jeremy Linden: Hello!
[13:16] Torley Linden: Oh my gosh that's hot Mari.
[13:16] Eddi Decosta: sorry* loll i need to drink my coffee, bfore write anithing ㋡
[13:16] Asterion Coen: (u drink to much coffe)
[13:16] Torley Linden: Yeah I haven't done a lot of testing on 1.23, I've been focused on 2.0... good to know who can actually see what you have on.
[13:17] Eddi Decosta: hi hi Torley ㋡
[13:17] Marianne McCann: yup. I need to additionally comment on that one, as you get them if sender and receiver are in the same region, but not in different ones
[13:17] Torley Linden: Heyyy Eddi!
[13:17] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: Well, I get an error message with the new textures in the Library. It's something a merchant needs toi know about, I reckon.
[13:17] Dennis CiscoSystems: Hiya I was switchinf from Snowglobe to the new SL 2.0
[13:17] Torley Linden: What specifically happens, WolfBaginski?
[13:18] Asterion Coen: gnome take all the room in the sofa
[13:18] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: Let me check, they're in Library | Body Parts| Alpha Masks....
[13:19] Gnome Inkpen: THAR be no room. :P
[13:19] Torley Linden: X.X
[13:19] Asterion Coen: (at least u r confortabily sitted)
[13:19] Torley Linden: Our exploring editors are adding more cool Shared Media uses to http://secondlife.com/destinations/sharedmedia  :) If you have one you can submit it! I know one of Qie's creations is listed on there.
[13:20] Qie Niangao: eep. well, your data URI stuff is much cooler than my kludge, Torley... and much cool stuff happening with that
[13:21] Torley Linden: Ahh I'm just the messenger, Callum Linden turned me on to it and it's been a great timesaver. ^_^
[13:21] Asterion Coen: no doubt with a name like that :)
[13:21] Torley Linden: It's one of those things that seems really geeky at first (and can be) but for someone just getting started, the key benefit is: "You don't have to upload a webpage. Just use a data URI." Especially for showing Flash content with a custom embed code, therein lies the practical linkage!
[13:22] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: Emerald looks to tag them as a shirt layer, for some reason, rather than the usual Skin symbol. Gets an error message--blue box about an unsupported feature. dOESN'T LOOK eMERALD-SPECIFIC.
[13:22] Nathan Adored: /me wonders when a version of Emerland will come out that supports this stuff.
[13:22] Nathan Adored: *Emerald
[13:23] Flenser Juergens: Probably not that long.
[13:23] Qie Niangao: for scripters, it's just *so* cool to have ways to provide prim-resident readouts without XyyZzText (or whatever it was called)
[13:23] Flenser Juergens: I noticed they have autoupdates working now.
[13:23] Torley Linden: Oh my gosh, yes Qie! XyText was a workaround for so many years... clever but desperately screaming for HTML on a prim!
[13:23] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: According to the Emerald website, they plan Viewer 2.9 function with a v1.23 UI. I like that idea.
[13:24] Nathan Adored: Dos it give a date expected for it?
[13:24] Marianne McCann: That message seems new. "Darn. You have been logged out of Second Life"
[13:24] Ranos Brumer: lol
[13:24] Torley Linden: I talked to Xylor B. back in the day, the guy who came up with XyText. He's so smart.
[13:24] Nathan Adored: Does it actually say "Darn" now?!?!?!? :D :D :D
[13:24] Ranos Brumer: I love that message.
[13:24] Marianne McCann: yup.
[13:24] Nathan Adored: LOL
[13:24] Torley Linden: I asked him about how he came to create it, and it was cool seeing how other Resis adapted it to show even more characters on the face of a prim -- very clever shaep manipulation there!
[13:24] Nathan Adored: /me giggles
[13:24] Jeremy Linden: Wolf, alpha masks are not technically skins; they are a whole new inventory type. I'm able to officially support Emerald, but any viewer before 2.0 may not be equipped to handle the new inventory type.
[13:25] Jeremy Linden: Crap, I'm NOT able to officially support Emerald.
[13:25] Jeremy Linden: Heh.
[13:25] Marianne McCann: "Darn. You have been logged out of Second Life. This region may be having difficulties. Check your internet connection"
[13:25] Asterion Coen: soon, it will be another message "congratulations, u r sucessfuly loaded into Second life" :)
[13:25] Torley Linden: Yeah some of our error messages have more personality. There are several Lindens to thank for that -- one of them is froggy goodness Erica who has a delicious sense of humor.
[13:25] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: I think they promise a date when Viewer 2.0 is finalised and leaves Beta (oink, flap)
[13:25] Chaley May: how much text can you put onto a page using data?
[13:26] Bronson Blackadder: lol
[13:26] Bronson Blackadder: jeremy
[13:26] Bronson Blackadder has pinged you.
[13:26] Bronson Blackadder: lol
[13:26] Torley Linden: Chaley, a data URI? 32 kb and if the addy looks very long you can use tinyurl (not sure what other shorteners work)
[13:26] Asterion Coen: a tyni url ?
[13:27] Asterion Coen: working on tiny prims ?
[13:27] Torley Linden: you can embed a graphic in a data URI itself, too... some neat ways to show SVGs (scalable vector graphics) for smoooth maps and diagrams that don't look jagged.
[13:27] Torley Linden: http://tinyurl.com  :)
[13:27] Asterion Coen: thx :)
[13:27] Chaley May: 32kb is a lot
[13:27] Gnome Inkpen: OMAHGOSH. I've been caught in a vortex. Playin' with Avatarz United.
[13:27] Torley Linden: The other day I put a texture slideshow on a sphere, made it physical, and had it roll down a hill all Indiana Jones style, it was so funny.
[13:28] Torley Linden: And since Shared Media goes on regular prims like any other, you can add glow, make them shiny or transparent, etc... great layering for artistic effects.
[13:28] Torley Linden: Oh, here was my "boulder" experiment http://torley.tumblr.com/post/457237622/holy-crap-shared-media-flickr-slideshow-on-a
[13:29] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: Torley, I'm sure people have been similarly awe-struck by some of the ideas behing the things griefers use. Sometimes you scare me.
[13:29] Marianne McCann: Ya, I'm looking forward to seeing them used to create "augmented virtuality"
[13:29] Kwame Oh: :-)
[13:29] Asterion Coen: about so funny stuffs, do u have a clue about a tool abble to make a texture for the sides of tube prims ? :)
[13:29] Ranos Brumer: You know you could of just put that in world
[13:29] Ranos Brumer: lol
[13:29] Torley Linden: WolfBaginski, yeah, that's the flipside of having lots of time on your hand and creative thoughts.
[13:30] Torley Linden: Ranos, oh you know, in normal conditions yes but Tumblr doesn't easily make their embed code available, I might be able to suck it out later... I asked them about that tho...
[13:30] Nathan Adored: hello Adamburp
[13:30] Ranos Brumer: ahh ok
[13:30] Torley Linden: I may upload my misc. experiments and raw weirdness to the official Second Life YouTube channel, we'll see...
[13:30] Adamburp Adamczyk: eep
[13:30] Adamburp Adamczyk: sorry
[13:30] Torley Linden: http://youtube.com/secondlife
[13:30] Gnome Inkpen: GRIFFER!
[13:30] Adamburp Adamczyk: i was aiming for jeremy's lap.............
[13:30] Adamburp Adamczyk has pinged you.
[13:30] Nathan Adored: what software does Torley use to capture these videos?
[13:30] Jeremy Linden: Say what?
[13:31] Torley Linden: Nathan, on Mac, Screenflow. On Windows, Camtasia or FRAPS.
[13:31] Marianne McCann: Now if onyl there was an easier way to make youtubes appear "full screen" on a prim.
[13:31] Torley Linden: Mari, did you see my tip? Is that the same thing?
[13:31] Marianne McCann: Hmn. Slip me an URL?
[13:31] Marianne McCann: Cuz I'll say no
[13:31] Torley Linden: https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/community/tnt/blog/2010/03/16/viewer-2-tip-shared-media-show-youtube-on-a-full-prims-face
[13:31] Torley Linden: Basically every (I think) YouTube video has a popup link, then copy and use that link instead.
[13:32] Marianne McCann: Awesome. That can save the hassle.
[13:32] Nathan Adored: Someone else recommended me to use WeGame, but haven't been able to determine a keybaord command I can set for it to toggle on and off that doesn't conflict with someting the SL viewers use.
[13:32] Torley Linden: Not all sites have this ability so I'm creating a wrapper workaround https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Shared_Media_Flash_wrapper
[13:32] Marianne McCann: I ended up just offsetting and sizing a texture for a prim to do it, but it was cludgy
[13:32] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: Ctrl-Alt-Del ?
[13:32] Torley Linden: I had fun with WeGame before, Nathan, and another one called XFire.
[13:32] Kwame Oh: :-)
[13:33] Jeremy Linden: I use youtubemp4 to "full-screen" YouTube videos.
[13:33] Marianne McCann: Is that still working, Jeremy? I've not had much luck with it over the last few months
[13:33] Marianne McCann has pinged you.
[13:33] Nathan Adored: Can someone suggest a good pair of keyboard shortcuts I can use that Emerald doesn't use?
[13:33] Torley Linden: I used YouTubeMP4 long ago; not sure if YouTube still dynamically changes their MP4 links, that ended up being a problem...
[13:33] Cisop Sixpence: Any security problems logging into my bank account using shared media?
[13:33] Jeremy Linden: Hmm... I haven't tried recently, Mari. Time to try an experiment :-)
[13:33] Bronson Blackadder: Nthan I use CTRL A
[13:33] Bronson Blackadder: I use wegame alot
[13:34] Torley Linden: I can hardly believe it, I used to wish for Flash in-Viewer SOOO MUCH
[13:34] Ranos Brumer: Be right back.
[13:34] Torley Linden: and now it's here!
[13:34] Torley Linden: Anyone else here into Caprica?
[13:34] Adamburp Adamczyk: Flash! Aaaaaaa! Saviour of the universe!
[13:34] Nathan Adored: ROFL
[13:34] Cisop Sixpence: /me likes Caprica
[13:34] Torley Linden: Oooh cool Cisop, what do you like about it?
[13:34] Marianne McCann: Ya, definitely. That's gonna make it much easier to use int he Bayjou
[13:34] Techwolf Lupindo: There is a bit of a push to go to html5 in order to dump flash.
[13:35] Cisop Sixpence: I like that it is SyFy, but I also like that they have a virtual world.
[13:35] Torley Linden: Yeah, the V-World, there are parallels to Second Life of course.
[13:35] Techwolf Lupindo: Apple can't put flash on there phone as it would kill batterly life to one hour and therefore can't advertize 10 hour battery time.
[13:35] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: Cisop, my bank specified a limited and ancient range of "supported" web browsers. And there look to be akll sorts oif get-out clauses in the bank's terms and conditions, if you're not using a supported browser and something goes wrong.
[13:35] Torley Linden: Let's see if the iPad really gets 10 hours under normal conditions, heh.
[13:36] Torley Linden: It's nifty seeing how certain apps are being optimized for the bigger screen.
[13:36] cheetahkid Parx: haven't seen the iPad yet
[13:36] Cisop Sixpence: Haven't tried logging in to my bank account with shared media, but was wondering if it is secure when there are others around that can view it as well.
[13:37] Techwolf Lupindo: The iPad will be sussecfful due to hype, but also due to design for !geeks.
[13:37] cheetahkid Parx: heard about logging in on iPhone
[13:37] Marianne McCann: Yay geeks!
[13:37] Jeremy Linden: Heh. Techwolf, I think the !geeks in the audience might not understand the term "!geeks" :-P
[13:37] Techwolf Lupindo: hehe
[13:37] Zamantha Carter: Afternoon all!
[13:37] Ranos Brumer: Hi
[13:37] cheetahkid Parx: hi
[13:38] Arawn Spitteler: I understand SLim is going down is that why it no longer lists my friends?
[13:38] Ranos Brumer: I can't even log into SLIM
[13:38] Kwame Oh: Thanks for the info, bed time in UK must go :-)
[13:38] Nathan Adored: What's SLIM?
[13:38] Torley Linden: Cisop, there are some rules that determine what other people can see. In the case of secure sites like https:// , no, those aren't shared. Only seen by the person who enters their credentials.
[13:39] Marianne McCann: SLim is history
[13:39] Jeremy Linden: Cisop, something to remember about Shared Media is that each person is essentially running a separate browser that happens to be looking at the same page. Under normal circumstances, nobody will be able to see what you're typing on a webpage, and your password should not authenticate anyone else to access your account.
[13:39] Torley Linden: ^ That!
[13:39] Techwolf Lupindo: Untill apple came out wiht the iphone, touch screen nevery really take off due to most apps was kluge to work with touch. Everything about the iphone software was done from teh gorun up with touchscreen in mind, not an afterthougt. Huge diffence in usabilly.
[13:39] Ranos Brumer: Ok I have a question about shared media.
[13:39] Cisop Sixpence: Cool
[13:39] Jeremy Linden: Go for it, Ranos.
[13:40] Torley Linden: Apple is good at taking things that failed the first time around and popularizing them. I agree in their hands, touchscreen became an appealing, widespread, casual input.
[13:40] Ranos Brumer: I have several friends who run Clubs in sl. They use the big boards for event lists(lots of prims). You were talking about beign able to use the shared media to replace those.
[13:40] Torley Linden: And going straight for touch instead of making a concession to fallback on a stylus (although such options exist, they're 3rd-party) kept them focused.
[13:40] cheetahkid Parx: I'm looking at touchscreen PC for myself soon
[13:41] Techwolf Lupindo: and the compention learned from apple, even though apple learned from there failures first time around. Now look at the compition, Droid and android phones.
[13:41] Ranos Brumer: So could someone use say a google calendar or similar site to create event lists and display that calendar but keep anyone but say the owner or even group being able to interact with it?
[13:41] Marianne McCann: Yup.
[13:41] Techwolf Lupindo: Ranos, yes.
[13:41] Techwolf Lupindo: Make calender pubic, but not public changable.
[13:42] Marianne McCann: You can select or deselect interaction under the texture pane
[13:42] Torley Linden: Yup Google Calendar specifically allows for that, and also what Techwolf mentioned... those are good options to set as-needed.
[13:42] Torley Linden: I'm finding myself making "template" prims with certain settings I want to have on other Shared Media.
[13:42] Jeremy Linden: Yes, Techwolf and Marianne are both correct. You can make the display non-interactive, and you can lock down the calendar on the Google side.
[13:42] Nathan Adored: testing
[13:43] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: General rule, SL provides a web viewer, but the access to the content is controlled by the web page, not by SL. Right?
[13:43] Qie Niangao: Ranos, remember shared media is only Viewer 2.0, so the tricky text stuff would have to wait until 2.0 is mandatory, but just regular parcel media works fine for google calendars... lots of places use that now.
[13:43] xstorm Radek: Can some one please put a note in the wiki asking the new linden lab support team not to read from the KB or wiki the user has in many cases
[13:43] Ranos Brumer: That is a great idea.
[13:43] Cisop Sixpence: How far out do you expect 2.0 to be manditory?
[13:43] Ranos Brumer: Thanks
[13:44] Torley Linden: Well, that was a weird crash.
[13:44] Nathan Adored: it has gone quiet all of a sudden..... did chat quit working? oO
[13:44] cheetahkid Parx: wb torley
[13:44] Marianne McCann: Man, what a stall
[13:44] Asterion Coen: wb, welcome on SL :)
[13:44] Torley Linden: I saw my name in chat appear as Techwolf's! And then, crash!
[13:44] xstorm Radek: Viewer 2 did crash for me too
[13:44] Jeremy Linden: Weird!
[13:44] Ranos Brumer: Wb Torley
[13:44] Techwolf Lupindo: /me grins evilly.
[13:44] Torley Linden: Wish I had gotten a screenshot but that happened fast. XD
[13:44] Eddi Decosta: hehe, torley do you know when i can get the next beta?
[13:44] Torley Linden: Techwolf ARE YOU HACKING ME j/k
[13:44] Asterion Coen: lol
[13:44] xstorm Radek: so its not just you torley
[13:44] Torley Linden: Eddi, next beta of Viewer 2?
[13:44] cheetahkid Parx: I'm still on sl...
[13:44] xstorm Radek: lol
[13:44] Eddi Decosta: yep yep
[13:45] cheetahkid Parx: tried emerald, that crashed too many for me
[13:45] Techwolf Lupindo: Torley, I know you was kidding. But I could via the media the prim right now if I was using viewer 2.0.
[13:45] Eddi Decosta: cause i have a intermitant trouble whit the fps , and i hope its fixed on the next ㋡
[13:45] xstorm Radek: Viewer 2 has a number of little problems that can make it crash
[13:45] Torley Linden: Eddi, I'm not sure, but we're getting closer to getting out of beta.
[13:46] Nathan Adored: Ain't technology wunnerful? :D
[13:46] Eddi Decosta: i think the next version is in Rc right?
[13:46] Asterion Coen: i tryed, once, emerald. it put about 10 min to load and then about the same time to do a step. immediatly followed by a crash
[13:46] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: /me points a sardonic finger at age verification...
[13:46] Marianne McCann: I hope well see at least a few big fixes yet down the pike with it
[13:46] xstorm Radek: i was going to jira the voice problem in viewer 2 but i think some one must have by now
[13:46] Nathan Adored: That's wierd, I've not had that problem with Emerald.
[13:46] xstorm Radek: and the memory problem
[13:46] Eddi Decosta: loll asterion ㋡
[13:47] xstorm Radek: plus a tread problem
[13:47] Eddi Decosta: i love the crasj when the crash is controled, but not when its for nothing :p
[13:47] cheetahkid Parx: oh, last thing, think of minimum requirement for slow computer, even the laptop
[13:47] Asterion Coen: cant wait to see what humouristic error message will invente the funny guy about that kind of issue :)
[13:47] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: I've reason to think that http textures can be slowed down by some virus scanners, and maybe ISP-level caching proxies.
[13:47] Techwolf Lupindo: There is still a few textrues out there that will crash the cleint.
[13:47] xstorm Radek: buy a new laptop or PC
[13:48] xstorm Radek: there fix
[13:48] Zamantha Carter: lol, that's not always quite possible xstorm
[13:48] cheetahkid Parx: that is funny
[13:48] Asterion Coen: not sure that's my PC !=
[13:48] Asterion Coen: :)
[13:48] Marianne McCann: 's true, Techwolf. I believe there's still a sim out there that's a total kill on 2.0
[13:48] xstorm Radek: lol
[13:48] cheetahkid Parx: you buy me a new laptop, xstorm
[13:48] Asterion Coen: i just mounted it bcause i was in need of a most powerfull GPU
[13:48] xstorm Radek: lol
[13:49] Qie Niangao: oh, speaking of crashes... does the viewer just give up on sending crash reports after a while? It's stopped asking me, doesn't seem to be sending them, and I sure don't recall telling it not to send them any more.
[13:49] xstorm Radek: 2 Processor Quad-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 1352, 2100 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
[13:49] Marianne McCann: It still asks me every time, Qie
[13:49] Flenser Juergens: I've seen that too.
[13:49] Torley Linden: It shouldn't! That setting should persist, Qie.
[13:49] Techwolf Lupindo: While desktops have gotten slowly more powerfull rendering wise, laptops have shrunken and gotten more effectent as the top sellers now are $300 netbooks folks get for general porpus.
[13:49] Flenser Juergens: It doesn't ask anymore.
[13:49] Asterion Coen: by the way i got the same error msg in SL viewer and emerald loading it 'your material doesnt match, blabla"
[13:50] cheetahkid Parx: lucky you, xstorm
[13:50] Qie Niangao: hmmm... I'll have to hunt around. This on Linux... it always fussed in console that it couldn't find a stack trace, so... well, I'll investigate.
[13:50] Eddi Decosta: well, sorry guy, i need to go at the bugs triage meeting in 10 mins ㋡
[13:50] xstorm Radek: i did at one time build blade servers
[13:50] cheetahkid Parx: I did notice on SL is only require a single core
[13:50] Marianne McCann: Have fun, Eddi!
[13:51] Arawn Spitteler: Has the Wiki got instructions for removing SLim?
[13:51] Eddi Decosta: thanks ㋡
[13:51] xstorm Radek: yes Linden Labs needs to catch up with system software or get better people working the servers
[13:51] Marianne McCann: Ya, I'd best get goin too. Have fun!
[13:51] Maxine Kohime: may I ask a question, perhaps *smiles shyly
[13:51] Torley Linden: Please do, Maxine!
[13:51] cheetahkid Parx: using 2 core is causing my processor to overheat
[13:52] Asterion Coen: buy a 300$ laptop and be sure to spend 500$ every 6 months to fixe it
[13:52] Marianne McCann: Bye Bye!!
[13:52] SQAW Barbosa: .;:+*'`'*+:;<<< Tschüssiii >>> .;:+*'`'*+:;.
[13:52] Zamantha Carter: mine too, dual core, but i blame it on the intel graphics card
[13:52] Eddi Decosta: canceled bugs triage lol .. geez
[13:52] Techwolf Lupindo: Asterion, havn't heared of any problem reports. And some of them fixed there problem by loading up Ubanto.
[13:52] Techwolf Lupindo: on ti
[13:52] xstorm Radek: Torley do you feel that some day the viewer will be 64 bit ?
[13:53] Maxine Kohime: thank you *smiles and takes a breath* I would like to ask something about 2.0, well, will the chat and comunication system change? Becomming more similar to 1.2x? *looks curiously
[13:53] Asterion Coen: fixing puter is my main RL purpose :)
[13:53] Techwolf Lupindo: I think 2014 will be the date. That is when win xp support is stopped.
[13:53] Zamantha Carter: just just keep blowing into my computer... pfft pftt pfft
[13:53] Ranos Brumer: You can in fact change settings to make it more like the original system
[13:53] Marianne McCann: Maxine - you may want to try tabbed IMs for that. Preferences > Chat > Show IMs in tabs
[13:53] Torley Linden: xstorm, that's not really a question of opinion, but eventuality. ;)
[13:54] Maxine Kohime: I did, thats not the same, Im afraid *smiles sadly
[13:54] xstorm Radek: good :-)
[13:54] Techwolf Lupindo: Last week, I took one laptop apart and remove about 80 percent blockage of hair from the fan/heatsink area. Cat and k9 hiar.
[13:54] Asterion Coen: it ill be 64bit when industries will begin to build 128bit stuffs :)
[13:54] cheetahkid Parx: I haven't yet tried window 7, vista is good for slow computer at the moment
[13:54] Techwolf Lupindo: Laptop ran fine after that.
[13:54] Zamantha Carter: Techwolk, that makes a huge difference
[13:54] Marianne McCann: Hey Fisher
[13:54] xstorm Radek: lol
[13:55] Fisher Linden: Hey
[13:55] Torley Linden: I have this big black cat, after he lays down on a white mattress, you can see a small nest of fur. It's quite the sight.
[13:55] Torley Linden: Heya Fisher!
[13:55] Fisher Linden: Hey Torley!
[13:55] xstorm Radek: i have a 128 bit system and can not use it do to laws
[13:55] Asterion Coen: hey fisher :)
[13:55] Ranos Brumer: Hello Fisher.
[13:55] WolfBaginski Bearsfoot: Looking at the costs, my next 'puter looks more likely to be Linux and Windows 7.
[13:55] Maxine Kohime: /me waits for answer, still smiling
[13:55] Techwolf Lupindo: And recommended getting a filter for the laptop. It is possiable to place a then filter over the fan air imput slots. Something like a thin nylong stocking woulld do the trick.
[13:55] Marianne McCann: Okay, now I'm definitely headin out. Have fun, all!
[13:55] Adamburp Adamczyk: my neighbour has 2 cats, adorable things - my dogs love them
[13:56] Torley Linden: Maxine, specifically what do you prefer about 1.23's communication layout?
[13:56] Asterion Coen: if u got the choise: dont buy a laptop :)
[13:56] Nathan Adored: xstorm: YOu have a 128 bit system and cannot use it to do what due to what laws? oO
[13:56] Torley Linden: If you're feeling up for it, there are some do-at-your-own-risk modifications @ https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Viewer_2_Tweaks
[13:56] Maxine Kohime: 2 chatbars again, lager chatbars and the comunication fixed on one place on my screen
[13:56] Maxine Kohime: please *giggles
[13:57] cheetahkid Parx: I used to repair st top box, I do get clean up after cat hairs inside it... they were sleep on the set top box.... kick them out
[13:57] xstorm Radek: our state has a silly old law still on the books about computers some day they will take it off
[13:57] Maxine Kohime: well, I dont want to do such HTMLTHMS stuff, Im a Pc noob
[13:57] Torley Linden: Oh yeah, I'd like a resizable chatbar myself. I've suggested that one.
[13:57] Cisop Sixpence: As for chat, would be nice if I could expand the height of the text bar I'm typing in so I can see more than just one line of text.
[13:57] Zamantha Carter: is there a snapshot button?
[13:57] Torley Linden: Yeah Cisop! Like in Skype or AIM...
[13:57] Cisop Sixpence: Yes
[13:57] Torley Linden: Yes, Zamantha. Has a little camera icon on t he bottom bar.
[13:57] Zamantha Carter: cool. I didn't see it :)
[13:58] Zamantha Carter: TY
[13:58] xstorm Radek: its the same way with the copper wire internet law in all state buildings in CT
[13:58] Cisop Sixpence: Time for me to go. TTFN
[13:58] Techwolf Lupindo: Someone at LL got blogitist. First the forum was move to an (ugly) blog format, now the viewer 2.0 has a screen space wasting blog format on chat.
[13:58] Arawn Spitteler: They have to use Copper Wire? What happened to Aluminum?
[13:59] Torley Linden: You mean, narrow columns, Techwolf?
[13:59] cheetahkid Parx: Aluminum resistance too high
[13:59] Maxine Kohime: hm *crosses her arms now*
[13:59] Ranos Brumer: How dare they use copper wire.
[13:59] xstorm Radek: lol yes copper wire and one must be for phones and the other internet
[13:59] cheetahkid Parx: yep
[14:00] cheetahkid Parx: and aluminum is use for heatsink
[14:00] xstorm Radek: and the law was from the 1950's
[14:00] Nathan Adored: So, some chariwarmer somewhere dreamed up this law? oO
[14:00] Techwolf Lupindo: Torley, that one. The other is taking three/four lines for one line of chat. The icon/avatar name take nearly two lines by itself.
[14:00] Torley Linden: Techwolf, you can revert to old-skool mode.
[14:00] Torley Linden: Preferences' Chat tab and check "Enable plain text chat history"
[14:00] Techwolf Lupindo: Torley, not for popus.
[14:01] Techwolf Lupindo: That effects _only_ chat history _window_.
[14:01] Torley Linden: It affects both NEARBY CHAT and instant messages.
[14:01] xstorm Radek: Torley can the Linden Lab website some day have a blob system its users can post on ?
[14:01] xstorm Radek: blog
[14:01] Torley Linden: xstorm, that'd be Avatars United.
[14:01] Time Minder: You have been online for 1 hours.
[14:01] xstorm Radek: did you get AU blog to work ?
[14:02] Techwolf Lupindo: Close the chat history window on viwer 2.0 and watch the local chat that pops up.
[14:02] Torley Linden: Yes, but now I can't figure how to make a second post. Heh. I'm a n00b!
[14:02] xstorm Radek: lol
[14:02] Torley Linden: Techwolf, ah, that yes -- wish that could be resized with the chat bar width.
