This Style Guide recommends to translate the English word ''You'' with the German ''Sie''. German Linguists considered this translation as inapropriate for a medium such as the Second Life Wiki. We discussed this topic at [[German_Linguists/2008_04_16_Transcript|a previous meeting]] and got the feedback from [[User:Lexie_Linden|Lexie Linden]] to translate formal articles (like rules and guidelines) with "Sie", while using "Du" for conversational topics. A revision of already translated articles is welcomed but no must.

The [[Mentor Linguist Scribe Translation Project]] is advertising the use of [[Template:Multi-lang]] which uses ISO 639-1. Since this is the only semi-official resource we have about LL's plans regarding the wiki-structure, we should name German translations of existing articles as ''ARTICLENAME/de''. '''Not''' ''ARTICLENAME/deu''. However, the wiki is currently a mix of both ISO's since [[Template:ISO 639-3/cat-speaking]] is using ISO 636-3 (like it's name indicates). Please move articles you find using the /deu naming to /de. German speaking Linguists are Residents of SL who are able to speak German and at least one additional language. Furthermore, they feel dedicated to the translation of the Second Life Wiki or other Second Life related non-profit resources. Beeing a member of the inworld groups German speaking Linguists or Second Life Mentors is not required to label yourself as a German speaking Linguist. These memberships are optional and require the compliance to certain guidelines. Have a look at the Volunteer Portal for guidlines of the Second Life Mentors group. The guidelines for the German speaking Linguists inworld group are:

  • Having the will to support the goals of the German speaking Linguists by contributing your skill (no need to be able to actually speak German).
  • Obey to the Tao of Volunteers while speaking in the group chat or while representing the German speaking Linguists group.
  • No non-Linguists related chat in the group channel (e.g.: no advertisement).
