Group Chat Failure Messages

Group chat failures are a complex problem. There are many possible
ways chat can fail. Here's how you can help fix the problem.

As a first step, please collect a list of all error messages you see
when using group chat. Copy the errors exactly as you see them, and
put them on a page located below:

* Create the page if you're the first one with information.
* Don't worry about adding lots of details. This should be a short
list without repeats or lots of extra notes.
* Give everyone a few days to add their errors, since different resis
often experience different problems.

Once we're sure we have a list, we can create a survey to collect more
information. We'll ask about the computers, internet connections, time
of day, and other factors common to these errors. If we're lucky, we
can help the dev teams better understand what's failing.

A quick list of errors (consolidated from the SVC-1509 comments etc):

Unable to start a new session with (group name). The session no longer exists <-- This one seems to have started May 30th or June 1st.

Happens when a message comes in on the group IM and the session has not already started. A tab is created on the communications window, and if local chat history was not open, the actual message appears on the screen. The tab closes again once this error is clicked on. This error can happen repeatedly until the user successfully gets the group IM opened (manually).

Unable to send your message to the chat session with (group name). Error making request, please try again later.

Happens when trying to send chat to a group IM that is already open. Usually instant on pressing Enter.

Error starting a new chat session with (group name). Error making request, please try again later.

Happens when trying to manually start a group IM session, by pressing the IM/Call button on the Groups page of the communications window. Comes up after a delay with the line of text in the group IM tab indicating the system is attempting to start the session.

Error messaging chat session with (group name). Error making request, please try again later.

Happens when trying to send chat to a group IM that is already open. Usually happens after a delay after pressing Enter.

Messages

• JUne 8 2009 - 6:34pm Eastern Daylight TIME - "Unable to send your message to the chat session with Kingdom of Laurelin. Error making request, please try later." Same error at 6:35 & 6:36

• "Unable to send your message to the chat session with New Citizens Inc.. Error making request"
• "Unable to start a new session with New Citizens Inc.. The session no longer exists"
  • this can appear before group IM has been opened. It looks like it happens because another group member sent an IM to the group (normally this would open the group IM tab). Group IM tab opens briefly, while this dialog appears, and the group IM tab closes.
• "Error messaging chat session with Friends of Raglan Shire. Error making request. Please try again later".
  • This happens most of the time when I try to send a message

  • This frequently happens when recieving the first group IM from a group after logging in, or after recieving the error dialog previously.

• "Unable to send your message to the chat session with New Citizens Inc.. Error making request" June 8, 18:00 SLT.
  • I initiated NCI group chat after receiving Carl Metropolitan's notice that he had turned NCI chat back on. I received a message, then tried to send my own. The first two times I got this error immediately; the third try was successful. Same with my next message. Then my next message posted immediately, with the next message taking two tries.
