Second Life allows you to use the secondlife:// protocol to create HTML links to any location within the Second Life world. If you click on a secondlife:// link while you are logged into Second Life, you are presented with a choice of teleporting to the location or showing it on your Map. However, if you are not currently running Second Life when you click on a secondlife:// link, your computer attempts to log you into the world at that link location, instead of at your home or your last location inworld. As a result, you can use secondlife:// to log into another location in Second Life. This is most useful when your normal login location (your home or last login) is currently unavailable, or if for any other reason Second Life stops loading at "Connecting to region..." The secondlife:// protocol is written in the following format:secondlife://region/X/Y/Z'region is the name of the Region you wish to log into. Replace any space the Region name may have with a "%20" (URL encoding for "space").X, Y and Z are the X, Y and Z coordinates you wish to arrive at. You arrive at the closest landing point to your intended location, with the final destination already marked on your map.

Example steps to log in at the Ahern Welcome Area:

  1. Close Second Life if it is running.
  2. Open your favorite web browser
  3. In the address bar, enter the following: secondlife://ahern/120/0/
  4. When Second Life appears, log in normally.

If you receive a message about "your home location is not available",click OK or Close. This message is often displayed while logging in with secondlife:// and can be ignored in this case.
