Alternate Viewers
The primary viewer for Second Life is Viewer 2, available on the main Second Life Downloads page. You will also find the latest Viewer 2 Beta, if you would like to try out the latest version of Viewer 2, before we make it generally available as the default download for new Residents.
Some experienced Second Life Residents also use alternative viewers to access Second Life. This wiki page is a comprehensive list of other approved viewers.
Please note that we do not officially support any of the viewers listed below.
Second Life Project Viewers
A Second Life Project Viewer is an early release from a Viewer development team to provide a preview of one or more new features for which you can get the source code.
Display Names Project Viewer on Aditi Test Grid
Display Names, a new feature currently under development, separates the current Second Life name into two parts - a unique username used to log in and an editable name that appears above your avatar called a Display Name. Learn more on the Display Names wiki page.
Mesh Import Project Viewer on Aditi Test Grid
Mesh is an upcoming feature that will allow creators to model objects using external tools and then import them into Second Life. Learn more on the Mesh Import wiki page.
Second Life Development Viewer: Project Snowstorm
The Second Life Open Source Development Viewer--or the Snowstorm Viewer-- is co-created with advanced Second Life viewer developers. On the Project Snowstorm wiki page, we have the latest builds, our open development plan, and links to resources and more information. Help test the latest features and get the earliest release of fixes.
Third-Party Viewers
Many Second Life developers, outside of Linden Lab, offer customized Second Life viewers. Please note that Linden Lab does not offer Support for third-party viewers.
