Welcome to the Second Life Market Data Portal!

As Second Life grows, its ecosystem and economy are becoming more and more important in Real Life. As a result, more and more businesses, organizations and individuals want to know what Residents are doing in Second Life and in Real Life.

Demographic studies are a good way to find out. Linden Lab is regularly approached by market researchers who request our assistance with studies that can be used to inspire their clients and partners to participate in Second Life.

Because we at Linden Lab are committed to the privacy of our Residents, we don't release personally identifiable data to outside companies (see our Privacy Policy). We also don't like to favor one vendor in the ecosystem above another. Finally, we believe strongly in the wisdom of the crowds, and we think we'll see better results from group demographic efforts.

Therefore, we wanted to try a different approach to working with the companies that have requested our assistance with demographics -- no exclusive partnerships, but instead a collaborative approach.

The purpose of this wiki is to create a collaborative environment where companies interested in research studies can meet each other, work together, and display their results. It will consequently also be the central place Linden Lab provides where everyone who wants to know demographic data about Second Life can request information from the ecosystem or view results of past studies.
