On Windows, there are several options on build (compile) environment of the Second Life.

Linden-Supported Compilers

For current release branches, the single supported MSVS version is:

  • Visual Studio .NET 2003 Professional

Build instructions are on: Compiling the viewer (MSVS2003).

Community Supported Compilers

It's generally possible to build under these compilers with minimal extra effort:

  • Visual Studio 2005 Professional
  • Visual C++ 2005 Express

Community Experimental Compilers

Visual Studio 2008 and Visual C++ 2008 Express

Visual Studio 2008 is in need of TLC:

  • Visual Studio 2008
  • Visual C++ 2008 Express

Cross compiling with gcc on Linux

mingw is in need of TLC:

  • i686-mingw
