I am not a merchant who uses Xstreet today, so how do I get started?

All Residents with accounts over 10 days old are eligible to sell items on Xstreet. To get started, you should get your Magic Box from Xstreet and rez it in-world. You need to establish a permanent inworld location for your Magic Box in Second Life. If you have no space of your own, we can provide you one for 60 days for free!

Next, go inworld and load your merchandise into your Magic Box to begin listing your items in the Xstreet Marketplace. For each item, you have an opportunity to choose a category and write a product description, and you can also let buyers know how many prims and what permissions apply to your product. Most vendors also help their customers see their offerings by uploading a image or two. For the full detailed instructions, see the Xstreet page on how to list your items.

Why should I sell items on Xstreet instead of selling my products in the Second Life® world?

Online shopping is a great addition to your inworld store. In the physical world, many of us like to shop online because of the convenience it provides: finding things is fast and the items are delivered right to your door. Xstreet is one step better- your items are delivered almost instantly inworld, and you don't need to be online to receive them! Your customers can shop at work during their lunch hour when they can't go inworld, and gift giving is now a snap because even "no transfer" items can be given directly to your friends at the push of a button. In addition to Linden Dollars, a shopper on Xstreet can choose to draw on a PayPal account for individual purchases.

Residents may also use the web store experience to discover merchandise that they ultimately purchase inworld. Further, it is likely that the web-based marketplace will serve as the first introduction to inworld retailers for many Residents. We hope that retailers will find new loyal customers as the result of this offering. Promoting your inworld business with a SLurl in your item description can ultimately increase your inworld traffic while simultaneously increasing the visibility of your products online.

Why should I shop on Xstreet instead of shopping in the Second Life world?

Xstreet SL provides a set of web-based buying and selling tools designed to improve your shopping experience. Xstreet helps you find things faster by allowing you to browse by category or search using keywords to find specific items or creators. If you find an item that interests you, you can save it to a personalized wish list. Some item postings include a SLurl, so you can go inworld and take a look before you decide to buy. When you decide to purchase an item, you can use Linden Dollars transferred from your Linden Dollar balance, or you can use PayPal to complete your transaction. Once purchased, your item is delivered directly to you inworld. Alternately, you may buy gifts for your friends, to be delivered inworld with a note from you - all without logging into Second Life! After making a purchase, you can rate items to help other shoppers find the very best creations in Second Life.
