A talk page is supposed to discuss how an article can be improved. It is '''not''' supposed to discuss the topic of the article itself. For example, the [[Open Source Portal]]s talk page is not the place to discuss the pro's and con's of Open Source, but on what articles should be linked to the portal or how it's style can be changed, etc.
Further guidelines related to the content of talk pages:
* When you comment on a talk page: Be polite, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Assume_good_faith '''assume good faith'''].
* Do not alter other [[Resident]]s talk page comments!
** Changes to fit the style of the talkpage or adding of [[Template:Unsigned]] seem appropriate though.
* Do not remove your talk page comments when you changed your mind. Use <code><nowiki><strike></nowiki></code> to manipulate the old comment instead and maybe add a reason why you made that change. Example:

Content

A talk page is supposed to discuss how an article can be improved. It is not supposed to discuss the topic of the article itself. For example, the Open Source Portals talk page is not the place to discuss the pro's and con's of Open Source, but on what articles should be linked to the portal or how it's style can be changed, etc.

Further guidelines related to the content of talk pages:

  • When you comment on a talk page: Be polite, assume good faith.
  • Do not alter other Residents talk page comments!
    • Changes to fit the style of the talkpage or adding of Template:Unsigned seem appropriate though.
  • Do not remove your talk page comments when you changed your mind. Use <strike> to manipulate the old comment instead and maybe add a reason why you made that change. Example:
<strike>Peanut butter isn't very tasty... </strike> -- Magellan Linden 09:04, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
:Hm... eating it more often made me change my mind.~~~~
resulting in:
Peanut butter isn't very tasty... -- Magellan Linden 09:04, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Hm... eating it more often made me change my mind. -- Magellan Linden 15:37, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
