I got another confirmation from GTeam. When I AR a coybotted product repeatedly (in seperated place and date but same product, and same person copied.), one of GTeam Linden IMed and advised me to file DMCA to remove all copied products in the world but AR. AR only punish the activity of copying as itself, but copied products. --[[User:Nock Forager|Nock Forager]] 17:19, 4 August 2008 (PDT)

"CopyBot is an exploit on Second Life"

"An exploit is a common term in the computer security community to refer to a piece of software that takes advantage of a bug, glitch or vulnerability, leading to privilege escalation or denial of service on a computer system. " --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploit_(computer_science)

The ability to see objects and textures in Second Life and reproduce the exact same thing is not a bug, glitch, or vulnerability of the system. The idea that everyone has the same building tools and capabilities is in fact one of primary features of SL. While the use of the software for illegal or ToS breaking purposes can be called immoral, unethical, and illegal, the program itself is in no way an exploit. No one got paid an exploit bounty for discovering it.

copybot not banned

Contrary to this edit, the CopyBot is not banned in SL. Banned is only the improper use of a CopyBot to copy other people's creations without permission. See this quote from Blue Linden, taken from Blue's Office Hour - March 28th, 2008:

well, we haven't outlawed bots, but we have outlawed use of copybot on other people's content (i believe that's the violation, i don't have it in front of me at the moment)

The rest of the transcript is interesting for this article as well btw., since it's topic was Copybot and Prim Copying. Also the following meeting (not yet published at the moment of writing) continues this topic. Have a look at Office Hours Blue Transcripts to review it when it's online.
