Alternative Agenda suggestion for the march 24 meeting
There was an alternative agenda suggestion, posted by Irene Muni and Torben Trautman. I moved it to the discussion page so that we can disuss it if needed.
After putting some more thought into recent conversations and discussions and the experience with the CT project I would suggest a different approach to the first user group meeting than this agenda for several reasons.
First, we will not be able to to work the whole agenda in the available timeframe which defeats the purpose of an agenda.
Second, I truely believe that the advocates of more community involvement have been heard. We didn´t leave out any opportunity to state our opinion via different channels over the last months. I understand that it´s Linden Lab´s business which pace, degree and/or quality of community engagement they want. Also it´s our business, how much time and/or energy we as volunteers invest. That said, I would rather love to hear about Linden Lab´s future plans and maybe discuss how the CT project can be improved than discussing what could have worked better in the past because this enables me to decide whether I want to engage further or not.
Third, with Noelle just being back and getting reclimatized and the new user group just starting I believe we should leave the pitchforks and all the rest of the armory at home and socialize :)
Agenda
* Will there be cake to celebrate the good event of Noelle? :-)
* For some ideas commented in the past meeting (March 17) of the Community Tools User Group, please don't forget to read this thread in the official Community Translator forums. In my opinion (Irene Muni), the heart of this meeting must be in this post by Torben Trautman; I think Torben gives in the target with the points he presents. I copy here a resumen of that Torben's post:
** I personally would be interested in discussing whether it makes any sense to engage in community translations or not.
*** If there is a Linden translator (Perez Linden) being paid for spanish localization and not being able to fix ONE BUG IN 9 MONTHS then I have a hard time understanding why providing bug reports and/or fixes isn´t a thorough waste of time.
*** Also I doubt from previous experience that meeting at 11PM my time during a workday will be worth the hassle.
*** Also from previous experience, if we are asked to translate stuff that then is never to be published I´d rather not be pestered with it. Same if it has to be approved in-House or by an agency first - but maybe I just have an incomplete understanding of community translations (After signing a contribution agreement I can contribute code and changesets and if they look fine they get implemented and I´m trusted to not implement malicious code so maybe the workflow for CT should be discussed and adjusted?)
*** I will NOT participate in forums chit chat to earn a rank allowing me to add translations/fixes to the knowledge base. This is simply not going to happen. I fail to understand how posting pictures of my avatar with a melon in my hand in the "what´s your favorite virtual fruit" thread qualifies me for the KB...
* Can we please discuss the meeting time of the user group? (added by Torben Trautman). Agree (Irene Muni).
* Please, can we discuss the frequency of the meetings? Is it enough a bi-monthly meeting? (added by Irene Muni).
* When Linden Lab employees make a translation of new features, is it possible advice (in forums or...) where that new translations are showed in the viewer or in the xml files? Sometimes we need to imagine where can be the new translations and that difficults the reviewing (apologies if that already exists) (added by Irene Muni).
* Is there a Linden translating into Spanish (as Luna Linden was)? The "Perez Linden" name is suspicious :-) (added by Irene Muni).
* What about a translation of the Community Participation Guidelines? Please, read this thread in the official Community Translator forums (added by Irene Muni).
** And related, any notice about the JIRA requesting translation in other languages of the new system of Forums/Blogs/SL Answers? (added by Irene Muni).
* Any notice about the JIRA requesting Terms of Service should be Translated into More Languages? (added by Irene Muni).
* Any notice about the deferred JIRA requesting Add Spanish language to Marketplace? (added by Irene Muni).
* I'm not sure if this wiki page about the CT User Group should be some information about "How to Join" the CT Group (as the "How to Join" of the totally outdated Community Translation Project wiki page). (Added by Irene Muni).
