This page servers to explain some of the first questions most emerald users ask when finding IRC in the client.

IRC in Emerald

IRC is a chat system older then the internet itself (not really). IRC has been integrated into the client to replace LL's failing group chat system. Unlike group chat IRC is stable, fast and won't fail when SL is acting shitty.

You can create arbitrary channels that others can join to chat in.

Using it

Joining IRC

In the IRC tab clicking "New" will bring up a window with a few options.

  • Nick: This is the nickname you want.
  • Server: This is the address and port the IRC server you want to connect to is running on. The default is run by the Emerald crew and is free for all to use.
  • Password: This is the password needed to connect to the server. Usually this is blank.
  • Channel: This is the channel on the server you want to chat in. Entering a non-existant one will create it with you as the owner.
  • Settings Tag: This is the name your settings will appear as in the IRC tab.

Common commands

Nickname commands:

  • /nick <the nickname you want>: Will change your nickname
  • /msg nickserv: nickserv provides nickname services, type "/msg nickserv help" for more info.
    • /msg nickserv register <password> <email>: This registers your nickname with chosen password and email.
    • /msg nickserv identify <password>: identifies you, needed when logging on with a protected nickname.

Channel commands:

  • TODO: For now type "/msg chanserv help"
