SilverLining is a (rather expensive; $1500 USD) weather SDK by Sundog Software. Although its emphasis is in rendering full 3D volumetric clouds in realtime and at high speed, it can also create spectacular weather effects, such as:

  • Precipitation - SNow, rain, sleet, thunderstorms
  • Heavenly body simulation (with precession and appropriate cloud highlighting)
  • weather-related timezone management
  • Scene lighting

In relation to the Second Life viewer, I am planning to replace the ugly legacy particle clouds with 3D volumetric ones from SilverLining. I may also end up replacing the unrealistic WL skydome with the SilverLining one, which appears to be greatly superior.

Progress

(Cancelled for now, working on replacing the rendering engine with OpenScenegraph)

  • Clouds: 0%
  • Skydome: TBA
  • Scene lighting: 0%
  • Funding:$0/1500 (Using evaluation SDK, 5 minutes max)
