Co-Founder and Owner of Create Mesh, a collaboration between a number of mesh creators in SecondLife to make a series of online video courses for teaching how to make mesh.
The first 3 courses focus on learning to design with the 3D modeling program, Maya from Autodesk, which is the leading industry standard for mesh creation. These courses will start for those just opening the program for the first time and introducing the layout and interface by focusing on what is relevant to model for Second Life, and provide step-by-step walkthroughs for modeling basic objects, arranging UVs, using lighting effects to make textures, and uploading it all to Second Life.
The second course will focus on architecure and teach everything you need to know to get started with making large structures in Second Life, including how to make a low-poly/low prim model, making a model with multiple faces in Second Life, efficient use of texture space by Overlapping UV shells, unique lighting effects, making custom Levels of Detail (LODs) and how to make a physics/collision model to allow your avatar to walk through your build.
The third course covers everything you need to get started with modeling clothing for Second Life. There are in-depth tutorials on how to construct basic pieces of clothing to fit well around an avatar, how to set up the UVs and texture each with proper lighting and shading effects, and extensive strategies for rigging it to a skeleton and how to paint weights for your model that will make it move smoothly with your avatar in Second Life, including use of the Interactive Skin Bind features in Maya 2011 and later.
