  • [11:01 SLT] Lexie Linden: Did anyone have any special topics or questions for today?
  • [11:01 SLT] Neovo Geesink: I know..... Installing the New Exam Software in the Schools Network is pretty much work.
  • [11:01 SLT] Lexie Linden: ahh that sounds like alot Neovo
  • [11:02 SLT] Lexie Linden: No topics, no questions?
  • [11:02 SLT] Lexie Linden: lol
  • [11:02 SLT] Kitty Beery: eeeeh no sorry ....
  • [11:02] Office Hr. E: Neovo Geesink: Everyone at BeamIn, Go to Office Hr. E
  • [11:02 SLT] Torben Trautman: I´m just lurking
  • [11:02 SLT] Kitty Beery: i just show up like a good mentor.. lol
  • [11:02 SLT] Lexie Linden: Do you all plan to attend the Valentines Day Celebration?
  • [11:03 SLT] Lexie Linden: lol Kitty
  • [11:03 SLT] Torben Trautman: I can´t :(
  • [11:03 SLT] Lexie Linden: : (
  • [11:03 SLT] Doctor Gascoigne: we never miss it
  • [11:03 SLT] Kitty Beery: i'm not sure i can make it
  • [11:03 SLT] Lexie Linden: Its always a good event
  • [11:03 SLT] SullyBaby Gomez: ill try to be there lexie
  • [11:03 SLT] Torben Trautman: hey Daniel
  • [11:03 SLT] Daniel Voyager: Hello everyone :)
  • [11:03 SLT] Lexie Linden: awesome
  • [11:03 SLT] Rails Bailey: depends on commitments with the gateways
  • [11:03 SLT] Kitty Beery: hi daniel
  • [11:03 SLT] Lexie Linden: Hi Daniel : ))
  • [11:03 SLT] Neovo Geesink: I will try allso,,
  • [11:04 SLT] Lexie Linden: I can tell you a little bit on what features I have been looking at for the "answers" site if you are interested?
  • [11:04 SLT] Torben Trautman: yay
  • [11:04 SLT] Neovo Geesink: OK.
  • [11:05 SLT] Lexie Linden: First thing is we think it needs to be very user friendly
  • [11:05 SLT] Lexie Linden: I think one of the hardest things in many sites is searching
  • [11:05 SLT] Lexie Linden: Wiki is a good example of a tough search
  • [11:05 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Indeed.
  • [11:06 SLT] Lexie Linden: Ideally if you use tags/keywords in the right way..it could pull up related material better
  • [11:06 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Some sort of Fuzzy Search?
  • [11:07 SLT] Lexie Linden: So one feature Id like to see is that a search will bring up the related questions but also..bring up the tag cloud with related tags so people have multiple ways to find things
  • [11:07 SLT] Lexie Linden: I think setting up the tags will be key
  • [11:07 SLT] Lexie Linden: updating tags and consistent use will be another key
  • [11:08 SLT] Lexie Linden: When you search for something....do you like when it suggests what others also looked at related to what you searched?
  • [11:08 SLT] Lexie Linden: Or is that just extra"
  • [11:08 SLT] Torben Trautman: I like that
  • [11:08 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Yes, Probably it will bring up other Phrases.
  • [11:08 SLT] Lexie Linden: ok
  • [11:08 SLT] Neovo Geesink: I would like to see it indeed
  • [11:09 SLT] Torben Trautman: especially when i don´t know what exactly I´m searching for
  • [11:09 SLT] Lexie Linden: right
  • [11:09 SLT] Torben Trautman: (which happens quite often)
  • [11:09 SLT] Lexie Linden: Also I think the top questions asked (by keyword matches) would be god to see on the side, maybe weekly
  • [11:09 SLT] Lexie Linden: good*
  • [11:09 SLT] Lexie Linden: That will help everyone see the current hot topics
  • [11:09 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Like a FAQ part?
  • [11:10 SLT] Lexie Linden: Sort of like that yes
  • [11:10 SLT] Lexie Linden: Those will include language categories
  • [11:11 SLT] Torben Trautman: yay for the german category
  • [11:11 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Moment... RL is calling...
  • [11:12 SLT] Lexie Linden: Also, I think it might be good to have the ability to submit a question and response to the KB..by some type of "flag" on that thread
  • [11:13 SLT] Lexie Linden: Something the doc team could check and decide if it needs to be added to official info
  • [11:13 SLT] Doctor Gascoigne: not me documentation
  • [11:13 SLT] Kitty Beery: first take the KB out of the support section...... now we can't copy the url's.......
  • [11:13 SLT] Torben Trautman: like instead of submitting a ticket?
  • [11:14 SLT] Lexie Linden: Maybe Torben..maybe just an additional way to flag content
  • [11:14 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Back again.
  • [11:14 SLT] Lexie Linden: wb
  • [11:14 SLT] Rails Bailey: the kb is the core of sl help
  • [11:14 SLT] Lexie Linden: True Kitty
  • [11:14 SLT] Lexie Linden: Yes Rails, it is the official source
  • [11:15 SLT] Lexie Linden: This*
  • [11:15 SLT] Lexie Linden: This is not a replacement
  • [11:15 SLT] Lexie Linden: Its a way to gather information that you already give to new residents
  • [11:16 SLT] Lexie Linden: Not all of what you help with is in KB
  • [11:16 SLT] Neovo Geesink: I think that it is better that New residents has their own part as this Help Site, and that the more advanced ones can get the KB... Otherwise the new residents will litterally swamp in the KB...
  • [11:16 SLT] Lexie Linden: I think Volunteer knowledge will always go beyond what the KB can offer
  • [11:16 SLT] Jezzie McCellan: that is true, but we can submit a ticket to have things added to the kb
  • [11:16 SLT] Jezzie McCellan: why not promote that among the Mentors instead
  • [11:16 SLT] Lexie Linden: Yes you can Jezzie
  • [11:16 SLT] Lexie Linden: Why does it need to be instead?
  • [11:17 SLT] Kitty Beery: can't the new site be a FAQ part of the KB?
  • [11:17 SLT] Kitty Beery: combine the two?
  • [11:17 SLT] Rails Bailey: too many duplicates of info resources is confusing
  • [11:17 SLT] Lexie Linden: Well, good question Kitty
  • [11:18 SLT] Lexie Linden: KB is official resource so resident to resident answers would be unofficial and set apart unless that info is confirmed
  • [11:18 SLT] Lexie Linden: Duplicating help is confusing?
  • [11:18 SLT] Kitty Beery: make it a resident part of the KB than, so people understand that isn't the official part
  • [11:18 SLT] Rails Bailey: then there is the issue of who will vet the correctness of the info in the new db
  • [11:18 SLT] Gellan Glenelg: one concern: how is this going to be different from the "resident answers" section of the forum (apart from less spam, hopefully)?
  • [11:18 SLT] Rails Bailey: basic tqm tenet
  • [11:19 SLT] Jezzie McCellan: yes it is very confusing. One place for everyone to go for the correct info is the most helpful.
  • [11:19 SLT] Jezzie McCellan: seems this ask/answer site repeats the KN and the Forum
  • [11:19 SLT] Kitty Beery: not everybodycan access the forums gellan
  • [11:19 SLT] Jezzie McCellan: open the forums up to everyone
  • [11:20 SLT] Gellan Glenelg: so, will the forum section be closed?
  • [11:20 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Ehhm, Afcourse Only SL names can enter... Otherwise everyone from RL will be Spamming the Forums....
  • [11:20 SLT] Lexie Linden: I do not know that yet Gellan
  • [11:20 SLT] Lexie Linden: Until it launches I cannot really find out
  • [11:21 SLT] Gellan Glenelg: What I don't want for new residents is "If there's a mentor around, ayou can ask them, but if not you could try the forums, and if you search there and don't find an answer, try the new system, and if that doesn't help, you might want to look at the kb ...... etc"
  • [11:22 SLT] Rails Bailey: and then ur rentention goes down the pan
  • [11:22 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Yipe...
  • [11:22 SLT] Lexie Linden: I see what you mean Gellan
  • [11:23 SLT] Lexie Linden: I think there are alot of ways residents can help other residents. Some will prefer to help in text on the website..some wont like it and will do what they have been doing which is help inworld
  • [11:23 SLT] Jezzie McCellan: I'm sorry I am being called to help a resident with some land issue. enjoy the day.
  • [11:23 SLT] Rails Bailey: its a bit like ringing a org and going through five phone menu's to speak to a person who may or may not know what u are talking about
  • [11:24 SLT] Torben Trautman: bye Jezzie
  • [11:25 SLT] Lexie Linden: I dont think every Mentor has every answer, or every KB has every answer
  • [11:25 SLT] Neovo Geesink: A Kiosk on the Main Hub of an HI, which points one to the right Help Pages, Accessible with the Inworld-Browser should be a good one.
  • [11:25 SLT] Rails Bailey: which Is why I got to the source through a support ticket
  • [11:26 SLT] Lexie Linden: I like that idea Neovo
  • [11:26 SLT] Neovo Geesink: I sadly do not have build rights, Otherwise, I will volunteer to set them up at the HIs and the WAs.
  • [11:27 SLT] Gellan Glenelg: agreed - there should be something OBVIOUS, at HIs that new resis can click on to get help when there's no mentor...
  • [11:27 SLT] Rails Bailey: one should ask why there are no mentors there
  • [11:27 SLT] Lexie Linden: I think the bottom line is that not everyone helps in the same way, nor does everyone learn in the same way. Its logical to offer assistance in more than one way to reach the most people who need it
  • [11:28 SLT] Lexie Linden: Rails not all prefer to help on the HI
  • [11:28 SLT] Lexie Linden: Some help on their own in many places that are not "official" locations. Thats ok and is very helpful too
  • [11:28 SLT] Rails Bailey: and that boils down to having all hi'sopen and nrs spread
  • [11:29 SLT] Gellan Glenelg: 1-2 mentors cannot help 200 residents, however many you cram onto a region
  • [11:30 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Is there a way that IF one Mentor is at a HI, then it will "draw" new Residents in, like it was done on MDStyle? (Seeders)
  • [11:31 SLT] Lexie Linden: So a Mentor is puts their tag on for an hour and that confirms what?
  • [11:31 SLT] Rails Bailey: track them on HI's
  • [11:31 SLT] Lexie Linden: We cannot require volunteers to help at the HI or one particular location
  • [11:32 SLT] Lexie Linden: Its voluntary..not a job
  • [11:32 SLT] Neovo Geesink: If that is possible, I think it will get a bit more grouping of Residents with Mentors.
  • [11:32 SLT] Rails Bailey: cfa is on such org
  • [11:32 SLT] Neovo Geesink: -?- I do miss you Rails...
  • [11:32 SLT] Kitty Beery: so i should loose my tag?
  • [11:33 SLT] Lexie Linden: HI is not the only place people need help
  • [11:33 SLT] Gellan Glenelg: I really don't think it would help rails... those who currently help on HIs would continue to do so. Those who can't / don't want to commit 1 hour/day would leave... no difference
  • [11:33 SLT] Lexie Linden: It is only one type location
  • [11:33 SLT] Rails Bailey: but its where ur new residents come i
  • [11:33 SLT] Lexie Linden: for now
  • [11:33 SLT] Rails Bailey: in
  • [11:33 SLT] Neovo Geesink: WAs and IHs are allso still there...
  • [11:34 SLT] Rails Bailey: thoiugh am praqctically living on a gateway to help the greeters
  • [11:34 SLT] Lexie Linden: As Blue has mentioned, those HI may change, the new user experience may change
  • [11:34 SLT] Rails Bailey: personally lexie I see HI's going and gateways being the future
  • [11:34 SLT] Lexie Linden: But the one thing we do know for sure is that there are residents new and older even who still seek help, and they are not on HI
  • [11:35 SLT] Lexie Linden: Blue has said that the HI may go, correct Rails
  • [11:35 SLT] Neovo Geesink: As the HI Concept is about to change, Is it possible that we do a Test (On a few if too complicated) if this system with an Obvious Help Kiosk works out?
  • [11:35 SLT] Lexie Linden: Nothing has been confirmed as far as what the NUE might be
  • [11:36 SLT] Lexie Linden: Actually Neovo, best person to ask that would be Blue : ))
  • [11:36 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Reminds me... I still have a Tube in my Inv.
  • [11:36 SLT] Lexie Linden: He would likely be the one who would know if any testing could happen
  • [11:36 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Ok, I will do that.
  • [11:36 SLT] Lexie Linden: ok : )
  • [11:36 SLT] Rails Bailey: got half of waterhead in mine neovo
  • [11:36 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Yipe...
  • [11:37 SLT] Lexie Linden: Overall, how are you all feeling about volunteering right now? Have you changed what you normally do since we had the meeting talking about expanding the program?
  • [11:38 SLT] Doctor Gascoigne: not at all
  • [11:38 SLT] Kitty Beery: no, I still do what I always do
  • [11:38 SLT] Gellan Glenelg: no
  • [11:38 SLT] Rails Bailey: yep am writing a generic training program for gateway greeters
  • [11:38 SLT] Torben Trautman: At the moment I´m rarely on HI´s or mentoring
  • [11:38 SLT] Neovo Geesink: I feel good... And no, I did not change it... I am still hopping HIs now and then, and are allso regularly at Korea1.
  • [11:38 SLT] Torben Trautman: but that´s because of rl and the translations we do :)
  • [11:39 SLT] Lexie Linden: ok so most of you continue to do what you feel is best
  • [11:39 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Indeed.
  • [11:39 SLT] Lexie Linden: Thats good : )
  • [11:39 SLT] Lexie Linden: : ))
  • [11:39 SLT] Rails Bailey: from a personal standpoint lexie, mentors has to evolve, and I believe gateways is the evolution path
  • [11:40 SLT] Lexie Linden: I have not been told yet Torben
  • [11:40 SLT] Lexie Linden: lol
  • [11:40 SLT] Torben Trautman: hehe
  • [11:41 SLT] Rails Bailey: can I throw a spanner in the works
  • [11:42 SLT] Lexie Linden: a spanner?
  • [11:43 SLT] Rails Bailey: how would LL view gateways having approved content for a training program, so all gateways are on the same page and teaching the right things
  • [11:43 SLT] Lexie Linden: (the only bad thing about these chairs is you cannot tell if anyone is typing)
  • [11:43 SLT] Rails Bailey: spanner=shifter=obstruction
  • [11:43 SLT] Lexie Linden: ahh ok
  • [11:44 SLT] Lexie Linden: I cant speak for the Lindens in charge of CGs. Best thing would be to attend office hours for that and let them know what you are thinking. Maybe give them a sample of your plan
  • [11:44 SLT] Lexie Linden: They may really like the idea
  • [11:44 SLT] Rails Bailey: got a name lexie
  • [11:44 SLT] Lexie Linden: Ill get you one
  • [11:45 SLT] Lexie Linden: Will have it by end of day
  • [11:45 SLT] Rails Bailey: great stuff
  • [11:45 SLT] Rails Bailey: hyde park orientation have good greeters they just need some focus and tweaking
  • [11:45 SLT] Lexie Linden: Likely I will reopen that
  • [11:46 SLT] Lexie Linden: Maybe have some auto-group add based on the the Mentor group tag being worn when you apply
  • [11:47 SLT] Lexie Linden: Do any of you know how to script that?
  • [11:47 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Nope... :-(
  • [11:47 SLT] Lexie Linden: I think I might be able to....maybe.....
  • [11:47 SLT] Lexie Linden: lol
  • [11:47 SLT] Kitty Beery: i can do a script that says 'hello avatar'...... lol
  • [11:47 SLT] Lexie Linden: lol
  • [11:47 SLT] Lexie Linden: me too!
  • [11:48 SLT] Neovo Geesink: I can just C&P in existing Scripts to combine them...
  • [11:48 SLT] Lexie Linden: good idea
  • [11:48 SLT] Lexie Linden: How have the weekends been going in the Mentor channel?
  • [11:48 SLT] Lexie Linden: I have heard some complaints
  • [11:48 SLT] Kitty Beery: about what?
  • [11:49 SLT] Lexie Linden: Worse than before? More talking in general
  • [11:49 SLT] Gellan Glenelg: some people seems to think that guidleines don't apply when there are no lindens on :(
  • [11:49 SLT] Kitty Beery: yes, but not only at the weekends
  • [11:49 SLT] Rails Bailey: we still have chat police so I tend to turn if off
  • [11:49 SLT] Lexie Linden: ok
  • [11:49 SLT] Kitty Beery: i see a lot of chat lately in the mentor channel
  • [11:49 SLT] Lexie Linden: I think all the Mentors have been in group awhile now. No one is "new"
  • [11:49 SLT] Lexie Linden: So..
  • [11:50 SLT] Lexie Linden: Likely the consequences may become stiffer
  • [11:50 SLT] Lexie Linden: I will open the Q&A first tho
  • [11:50 SLT] Rails Bailey: well there are enuff private mentor groups to chat in
  • [11:50 SLT] Lexie Linden: Right Kitty, thats what I am thinking
  • [11:50 SLT] Kitty Beery: there are rails, i have mentals and q&a and those work
  • [11:51 SLT] Lexie Linden: I will try to send a reminder weekly
  • [11:51 SLT] Rails Bailey: when they stop kitty i beat support with tickets
  • [11:52 SLT] Rails Bailey: am sure they have a rails file that says open with care
  • [11:52 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Nope.. I was off home most of the Weekend...
  • [11:52 SLT] Lexie Linden: ok
  • [11:53 SLT] Lexie Linden: What else has been going on with you all? Any interesting things : ))
  • [11:53 SLT] Rails Bailey: just gateways
  • [11:53 SLT] Lexie Linden: : ))
  • [11:53 SLT] Lexie Linden: Valentines plans in SL?
  • [11:53 SLT] Lexie Linden: : ))
  • [11:54 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Well, I got a new pair of glasses, but I had to return them allready... The lenses were falling out of the Frame constantly...
  • [11:54 SLT] Lexie Linden: yikes
  • [11:54 SLT] Neovo Geesink: \I am back on my old one...
  • [11:54 SLT] Lexie Linden: I dont know if there will be a monthly Mentor meeting for Feb
  • [11:55 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Oh?
  • [11:55 SLT] Lexie Linden: If there is no news..likely not
  • [11:55 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Ok.
  • [11:55 SLT] Kitty Beery: any idea when applications could open up again? I'm asked quite often about that.....
  • [11:55 SLT] Lexie Linden: If we have news in March..maybe we wont wait til end of the month to have a meeting
  • [11:55 SLT] Kitty Beery: lol
  • [11:55 SLT] Kitty Beery: ok rails ;-)
  • [11:55 SLT] Lexie Linden: I have not been told anything
  • [11:56 SLT] Lexie Linden: I think the new software might offer some options on that too
  • [11:56 SLT] Lexie Linden: Soon as its up and running I can check out more of the features and see
  • [11:56 SLT] Kitty Beery: so that will take months still?
  • [11:56 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Anyone who has used my receiver at the last Mentor Meeting who can tell me if it preformed adequately?
  • [11:56 SLT] Lexie Linden: I sure hope not Kitty
  • [11:56 SLT] Kitty Beery: i really need to get my alt in.... lol
  • [11:57 SLT] Rails Bailey: cant vteam do manual invites
  • [11:57 SLT] Lexie Linden: Directly to group you mean?
  • [11:57 SLT] Rails Bailey: yep
  • [11:57 SLT] Lexie Linden: Then we will have no records..
  • [11:57 SLT] Lexie Linden: That would be bad
  • [11:57 SLT] Neovo Geesink: In Groups so they can get an Orientatiojn Session?
  • [11:57 SLT] Rails Bailey: but is has been done
  • [11:58 SLT] Lexie Linden: In the past yes
  • [11:58 SLT] Lexie Linden: We have the current database pretty well caught up
  • [11:58 SLT] Rails Bailey: what if a mentor recommended an outstanding person
  • [11:59 SLT] Lexie Linden: If we start adding people by hand..then those people will not have an entry in the group records
  • [11:59 SLT] Rails Bailey: or a linde for that matter
  • [11:59 SLT] Rails Bailey: slaps typist
  • [11:59 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Reminds me on the Names in the Sidewalk...
  • [11:59 SLT] Lexie Linden: I dont think we can add just certain people ..it wouldnt be fair
  • [11:59 SLT] Lexie Linden: What about the sidewalk names?
  • [11:59 SLT] Kitty Beery: so we don't get new v-team members either, they can't get into the mentor group, lol
  • [11:59 SLT] Lexie Linden: lol
  • [12:00 SLT] Neovo Geesink: It came to mind when it was mentionned to tell an outstanding Mentor... That was done in the past.
  • [12:00 SLT] Lexie Linden: I dont know if we are going to continue to do the sidewalk names
  • [12:01 SLT] Gellan Glenelg: I believe the feeling of some is that the stars give the messages "All mentors are equal - but here's a list of those who are MORE equal ..."
  • [12:01 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Well, Deleting those names can be a good thing to Keep us equal.
  • [12:01 SLT] Lexie Linden: I dont know if we should take away what was already done
  • [12:01 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Ok.
  • [12:02 SLT] Lexie Linden: I will talk to Mia on the sidewalk names though
  • [12:02 SLT] Rails Bailey: stick it on a LL application
  • [12:02 SLT] Lexie Linden: See what she thinks : ))
  • [12:02 SLT] Lexie Linden: Next Tuesday I will not be here so I will move my office hour to another day
  • [12:02 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Ok.
  • [12:02 SLT] Lexie Linden: I will figure out which day and update profile and wiki too
  • [12:03 SLT] Lexie Linden: Thanks for coming today : )
  • [12:03 SLT] Kitty Beery: thank you too
  • [12:03 SLT] Neovo Geesink: Is it OK to leave the copy of the Panel here, Or would you prefer it to be only in the Vteam Kiosk?
  • [12:03 SLT] Gellan Glenelg: ty lexie
  • [12:03 SLT] Lexie Linden: I appreciate your honest feedback!
  • [12:03 SLT] Lexie Linden: Maybe just VTeam kiosk?
