Volunteering in Second Life
In many ways the virtual world of Second life is a reflection of the real world. And as in the real world there is always a need for experienced people, seasoned residents, that spend a part of their time to help others. Volunteers in Second Life work on making the virtual world a better place by answering questions, by educating, by translating, by socializing and way more.
Why should I volunteer in Second Life?
Do you remember your first days in Second Life?
Every day new residents try to find a start in the world. They need You! They need your help to find places worth seeing, to learn how to get rid of the box they wear instead of hair, to not feel lost in the huge world that expects them, or they just need someone to explain them what Second Life is about.
Have you ever tried to build something and got stuck?
Scripts, prims, sculpts, textures, shapes and skins... There is so much to play with, so many cool things you can build and so much that can go wrong. Wouldn´t it be cool if there was someone to ask for help? This is where you step in! You can help residents to develop their skills by hosting classes, offering one on one help or just provide assistance with questions.
Do you have a hard time reading english words?
Some people do. Many residents can´t access help ressources because they don´t speak english. Your help can make a difference. By translating the wiki, the viewer, blog posts and more you can help those residents find the information needed.
Still not convinced?
Volunteering is fun and makes a difference in the world. You can make new friends and share your skills with others. It´s something different and you help develop skills. You develop your communication skills and can work in a team. Helping others builds your self-esteem and self-confidence. You will feel needed and appreciated. And last but not least here are 101 reasons to volunteer.
I would love to volunteer! How do I qualify?
Basically if someone has a question and you have the right answer, you are qualified. However, many groups that are devoted to helping residents offer training and classes to help you deal with residents, common questions and show you how to work with resources. While there is no comprehensive list of what you should know to be an awesome helper, the SL Certification project makes some suggestions for Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Mentoring Skills that might give you an idea of what skills are helpful.
What can I do?
Your help is needed and appreciated basically everywhere. There are many groups and projects devoted to helping residents. Learn more about opportunities to volunteer at the Volunteer Portal.

You have landed in my sandbox where I either build sand castles or prepublish
an article I work on to see how it looks or to discuss it.
Du bist in meinem Sandkasten gelandet, in dem ich entweder Sandburgen baue oder Artikel an
denen ich arbeite vorab veröffentliche, um zu sehen wie die Artikel aussehen oder um über die
Artikel zu diskutieren.
