Torley Linden: I made it on time!
Torley Linden: Woohoo!
icktoofay Kamachi: Friendly Greetings!
Kati Wunderland: just in time i say
Walden Mannonen: me too!
Torley Linden: Glad to see you all here already...
CeeJay Tigerpaw: Hi Torley
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: wow I should have said something sooner
CeeJay Tigerpaw: Halleluiah!
Walden Mannonen: YAYZERAMA!
Torley Linden: FRIENDLY GREETINGS too and thanks for coming!

Aria Dragonash: hello torley
icktoofay Kamachi: Friendly Greetings!
icktoofay Kamachi: Friendly Greetings!
Torley Linden: It's been an eventful day. Then again, it always is!
Vivienne Daguerre: back.. and hello Torley :)
Kooky Jetaime: Akeyo - you need new shoes
Torley Linden: Hey, talking shoes, that reminds me of Taryn London's!
Cliff Etzel: hello torley
Torley Linden: Hi hi everyone!
Jonit Ivory: damned particles
lonetorus Habilis: hellows
Byakuya Runo: Master Torley! lol
Torley Linden: I hope my particles have poofed for everyone. *swoops camera around*
Jaymes Kjeller: Very nice entrance Torley. :)
Torley Linden: =)
Kooky Jetaime: they did
Torley Linden: Thanks LOL, it's kind of a funny side-effect that those particles poof on entry...
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: pewf!
Bri Gufler: oops sorry
Torley Linden: teleporting is one of those wonders... a shame when it breaks but very cheap (no jet fuel) otherwise.
Jonit Ivory: ah Isa
Jonit Ivory: ciao
Bri Gufler: 1.20 crashed on me again :(
Torley Linden: How's each and everyone doing? Did anyone come here because you saw my blog post earlier?
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: i read your blog
Rebbecca Riggles: yes
Torley Linden: Yeah I am having a lot of 1.20 RC crash problems and hope it gets better.
Kooky Jetaime: though you might be wanting to get rid of the radio
Lorimae Undercroft: yup I saw your blog entry :)
icktoofay Kamachi: hmmm.... i'm getting around 8fps now....
Kooky Jetaime: you'll heart your wrist
Vivienne Daguerre: yes, that is why I came
Cliff Etzel: no i came here re a specific video tut
June Oh: yes
Torley Linden: Kewl to know!
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: I'm using the nicholaz Client (based on 1.20)
Torley Linden: So yeah, I'm open to any questions & commentary & suggestions you may have, my work right now is mainly concerned with public-facing evangelism, including video tutorials. :D
Torley Linden: If you have any misc. questions feel free to ask!
icktoofay Kamachi: Torley, yes you "can has spacenavigator". :p
Torley Linden: Otherwise we'll discuss about whatever comes up.
Torley Linden: HAHAHA icktoofay.
Torley Linden: That was so much fun for me to do...
Jonit Ivory: ooh I bought one, I have it here
Lorimae Undercroft: could you leave the text in your videos up just a tiny bit longer? they vanish real fast :)
Jonit Ivory: very nice too
Byakuya Runo: same here
Torley Linden: Lorimae, great question, and I have lengthened them over time... here's what happened.
Torley Linden: Or rather, colon:
Ash Meersand: Mr. Linden, I was using the Debug Settings under Advanced and I came across this thing called Server that says DO NOT TOUCH
Cliff Etzel: yeah i saw a video done by some linden qwat i think but it is very poor quality and has a few good pointers on it, would you be able to remake this in your own style ?
Torley Linden: When I started doing video tutorials with text subtitles, they all lasted 2-sec. long. Now, I realize that was often too short.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: I think you really need to make a video for the complete noob who has no idea what to do next once they are born-rezzed. And shove the video in thier face!
Vivienne Daguerre: I wanted to tell you I am a fan. I have been here a long time, and I continue to learn things I did not know from your tutorials and tips. I learned how to use the building grid from your tutorial, and my building has improved immenselfy. So, hello and thank you :)
Ash Meersand: What happens if you change it? Does your avatar go kablooey?
Torley Linden: Now, per context, I make them longer... some are up to 8-sec. depending on what I'm speaking about and if it doesn't block anything too vital.
Kooky Jetaime: Ash - whats the direct menu list?
Torley Linden: Too much text becomes a chore too to read with everything going on, so I've been more selective about what gets presented for emphasis.
Byakuya Runo: you can always pause!
Walden Mannonen: I shall return.

Kooky Jetaime: Torley - perhaps have a written transcript to read on the side?
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: not me
icktoofay Kamachi: The "do-not-touch" server thing changes the login server or something.
Jonit Ivory: wb Isa
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: yay for chat history
Isabel Susanti: thanks
icktoofay Kamachi: i think
Ash Meersand: Thanks, icktoofay Kamachi.
lonetorus Habilis: torley, would it be posible for you to do a "hotwo JIRA" video tutorial?
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: he did do a jira one
Torley Linden: *scrolls up* I want to make sure I don't miss anything...
icktoofay Kamachi: He already has.
Kooky Jetaime: eh.. jira would be a hard video
Jonit Ivory: JIRA is self explanatory no?
Kooky Jetaime: especially considering the speed of jira.. we'd be watching it for an hour
Torley Linden: Cliff, send me the link to the video please, I'll have a link.
Chase Marellan: No way
Cliff Etzel: sure
lonetorus Habilis: yes, but others find it very hard to use :D
Torley Linden: Vivienne: Aw thank you SO much! Hello and I am glad, so glad you're sharing this with me.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: for me Jira isn't that self explanitory.. especially when you want to search it
lonetorus Habilis: need something for everyone :)
lonetorus Habilis: cant expect everyone to be it experts
Lorimae Undercroft: Jira is tough to navigate hehe
Kati Wunderland: i want the "show look at" fixed in the RC viewer!
Jonit Ivory: fair point but would it be counterproductive to open JIRA to people not qualified enough to enter relevant entries?
Rebbecca Riggles: I would like to see a vid on how to make vids. I tried once on the Mac client and it just bombed me out.
Kooky Jetaime: Jira is an advanced tool, so I'm sure there will always people who don't get it.
Jonit Ivory: it would become as lax as the blog comments then
Torley Linden: Kooky: Re: written transcript, I have some good news on that, I'm testing including written text summaries for 75 of my video tutorials on YouTube (a good sample size) to see if they make a visible difference re: searchability & accessibility. I have thought about the possibility of asking a service like CastingWords to transcribe in the future, but there hasn't been a *lot* of demand for it. And also, in the future, I'll be working closer with our Knowledge Base folks who are essentially doing the text versions of what I show.
Torley Linden: lonetorus: I did a "How to report a bug" one, did you see that?
Torley Linden: (Sorry I can't reply to IMs right now, too much going on in the open! ;) )
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: you did the Jira video almost 2 months ago
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - I was just thinking of having all your text in the video in a side message
Kooky Jetaime: I'll be honest, I don't watch your vids.
Torley Linden: How to report a bug — http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/01/17/tip-of-the-week-18-how-to-report-a-bug
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: me thinks
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: ok 3 months ago
Torley Linden: Mhmm, I am covering topics as they come up, and there's a lot of them!
Jonit Ivory: one of the benefits of JIRA is that it's intimidating enough to get the "hey I lost Inventory" type questions out of it
Torley Linden: JIRA shouldn't be used for support queries but reproducible bugs are DEFINITELY welcome. I know that distinction can be confusing and we could message it better.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Torley, did you do a video that fully explains how the free camrea works? I think that's the BIGGEST hurdle that most noobs just don't get. And it makes a world of diffrence once you know it.
icktoofay Kamachi: One of the things I don't particularly like about JIRA is that I read one bug... then read another... and another... and get logged out for inactivity. :p
Torley Linden: I'm not closely involved with the Issue Tracker right now tho...
Torley Linden: HUGaLOT: Which "free camera"?
Ash Meersand: Speaking of JIRA, I submitted a bug because certain library items would not rez when you tried to wear them. It said they were missing from the database. I was hoping since these were from the library, they would be easier to fix than the average missing item. A few days later, several items I mentioned in my report were removed from the library entirely. Does this mean that after an item goes missing from the database for a while, all copies are gone forever?
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: alt-click-drag
Torley Linden: I feel camera controls in general are confusing...
Kati Wunderland: alt-click
Ravenelle Zugzwang gave you I make you prezzie...<3.
Lorimae Undercroft: i think i saw a video on camera constraints
Torley Linden: HUGSaLOT, oh yes, of course:
Kooky Jetaime: Ash - that sounds like someone is just taking the easy way out until they relocate the asset
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: yeah but a video that explains that in the POV of a newbie would be helpful.
Torley Linden: That's in the BASICS series, http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Video_Tutorials/Basics
Torley Linden: Designed for our newcomers!
Kooky Jetaime: The asset is still there, just "lost"
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: I wrote a notecard that explains it.. but most newbies don't wanna read a page of text..
Torley Linden: That page will get more views once it's better linked to from our upcoming oriention improvements.
Kati Wunderland: most new people probably have never seem their own faces, except in the appearance editor XD
Torley Linden: Ash: It depends on specifics but unfortunately... odds are it's lost. :(
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: you know you're a newbie.. when you have to use apperance mode to see your face.
Torley Linden: Specifically, "Looking around with camera controls", I hope it does ya well — http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Video_Tutorials/Basics#Looking_around_with_camera_controls
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - Perhaps you should bend some ears and get the public OI/HI upgraded to the current one that new users see. I mean if it was changed, it was probably done so because the new ones are considered "better", so why keep the "old" as publically available?
Ash Meersand: Thanks, Mr. Torley. At least I still have the partial set from when it was in the library. The outfit they removed was Cybergoth Male.
Kati Wunderland: or use the appearance editor to change clothes :)
icktoofay Kamachi: Torley, what does newbie_template Linden do? :p
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: haha
Torley Linden: Kooky: I asked for that before and it didn't happen, I agree it's puzzling. :\
Kooky Jetaime: thats definately a user experiance issue
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: wow im older than Torley!
Torley Linden: icktoofay: newbie_template is (or was? Haven't checked recently) used to stock the Inventory's Library.
Torley Linden: Yes you are HUGSaLOT, hee hee.
Kooky Jetaime: I invited someone new, but couldn't tell them places to make sure to see before comming mainland since I don't know what the new islands look like
Jonit Ivory: have you met M yet Torley?
Ash Meersand: Another question about the Advanced mode: What does Fast Alpha do?
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Advanced mode?
Sougent Harrop: Cybergoth Male shows in my Library listing.
lonetorus Habilis: yes, whats your first impressions od M?
Ash Meersand: I mean Advanced menu
Isabel Susanti: Euhmm.. can i have a piece of that watermelon? >:D
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: oh that's the new debug menus
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: used to be client - server.. now it's just advanced.
Jonit Ivory: always hungry? you are pregnant Isabel?
Torley Linden: Yeah, we renamed it so it made more sense...
Isabel Susanti: must be it
Isabel Susanti: :(
Aria Dragonash: good question ash, i already tried it but no change for me
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: ice cream and dill pickles
Kooky Jetaime: Ash - its regarding how textures are handled from what I understand
Torley Linden: Ash, that makes transparent textures look kinda crappy at longer distances but they'll render faster.
Isabel Susanti: ah ty so much Jonit.. too kind :P
Kati Wunderland: and "show look at" is broken, i'll have to repeat that :)
Kooky Jetaime: Just like Avatar Imposters :D
Jonit Ivory: prego, di niente
Ash Meersand: Thank you again, Torley
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: has anyone noticed people with brightly glowing hair? Since 1.20x
Kati Wunderland: yep, i have
Aria Dragonash: yes me too
Bri Gufler: Torley - at some point would you be able to share information on the tools you use to create you videos?
Bri Gufler: *your
Zand Gundersen: so you where unable to get a transcript for 4-17-08 torley.
Torley Linden: Sure Bri, first I'll ask, what specific info are you looking for?
Torley Linden: Zand, yes, I didn't log it.
Ash Meersand: What does TestFRInfo do?
Torley Linden: I don't know that one, Ash.
icktoofay Kamachi: Torley, starting in the version just before this (in the release cantidate viewer) all WL water is black with Atmospheric Shaders on.
Torley Linden: I use Camtasia to record my videos... and there's a step-by-step process @ http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Vidtut_process :)
Torley Linden: icktoofay, I heard about that at Bridie's bug triage yesterday. We're aware of that one.
Ash Meersand: What about Tangent Basis?
Bri Gufler: Well I have been experimenting with Machinima (made a video about the Remembrance day). I used Fraps for video capture and then edited them on a mac. I was just curious about the tools you use.
Bri Gufler: Ah thanks! I will look at that.
icktoofay Kamachi: It's making me think that SL is near the "black sea".
Bri Gufler: I have been curious to try fantasia
Bri Gufler: camstasia :)
Zand Gundersen: i do heve my own log of that one if you interested
lonetorus Habilis: black water seem to be connected to ppl running ATI video cards
Kooky Jetaime: Blackwater?? Are they invading here now too?
Kooky Jetaime: *chuckles
lonetorus Habilis: if you have a look at the jira, 2 sec let me find the jira
Torley Linden: FRAPS is fine for straightforward capture, my main issues with it are (1) lack of choice with codecs (2) doesn't capture some cursors and inworld stuff, and (3) doesn't record outside of OpenGL... so can't do normal windows.
Jurin Juran: heh
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Torley how do you get that yellow highlight around your cursor?
Bri Gufler: Yes I have seen those issues with it. I will definitely try Camtasia. Is it pretty good at keeping up with frame rates and such?
lonetorus Habilis: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-6674 <- black water in RC using ATI graphics card
June Oh: can you do a video on the space navigator custom buttons please
Torley Linden: Camtasia's capture framerates depend on the codec and your machine...
icktoofay Kamachi: he has
Torley Linden: If you use DivX realtime codec, it's just fine.
Vivienne Daguerre: crashed
Watermelon Cooler whispers: Cheers!
Torley Linden: Camtasia has a GREAT lossless codec, but it's not good with SL because of all the colors... it's best for flat areas like most OS windows. So I use that for capturing SECONDLIFE.COM
Jonit Ivory: any news on the landstore rollout Torley?
Bri Gufler: I am downloading a trial of Camtasia now :)
Vivienne Daguerre: cool avatar Jurin!
Kati Wunderland has a watermelon cooler :)
Torley Linden: Jonit, I'm looking to do a video tutorial on that... heard some internal news and it's still forthcoming. :)
Torley Linden: June: Specifically, what would you like to see?
Tenebrous Pau: pop.
Jurin Juran: TY Vivienne
Torley Linden: Camtasia has a 30-day trial and I'm not paid to endorse it but out of what I've tried, I like it. :-)
June Oh: any ideas
Torley Linden: Thanks all for coming here today!
Bri Gufler: I am downloading the trial of Camtasia Studio as we speak :)
Jonit Ivory: Torley
Tenebrous Pau: camtasia is great, am getting my work to use it for tutrials too now
Ash Meersand: Is there a list of university-owned regions in SecondLife, without having to go to each site and landmark them one by one? I've collected about 32 of them so far
Jonit Ivory: can you answer this, you have again enabled more double prim sims in the new LDPW work
California Chronic w/ leaves: the air is thick with marijuana smoke
Torley Linden: Ash, I don't have a definitive list but if you ask on the SLED mailing list, I bet a lot of people will speak up.
Ash Meersand: Thanks
Jonit Ivory: can we one day have estate owner settings for prim limits?
Kooky Jetaime: Jonit -that didn't sound like a question
Torley Linden: Also if you look at educators' groups in Second Life, there's also a SLED blog...
Jonit Ivory: I was getting to is slowly Kooky LOL
Torley Linden: Jonit: I'm not on LDPW, I don't know about that, sorry.
Kooky Jetaime: Jonit - a sim can only handle 15,000, max, irregardless of region bonuses
Kooky Jetaime: so you can adjust them a bit
Torley Linden: We have no plans soon to change the total region max. prim limit.
Jonit Ivory: no, you can increase the limits server side
Vivienne Daguerre: I hope one day for more prims :)
Torley Linden: It'll stay at 15,000 for the time being.
Torley Linden: When more people get better computers, obviously some of this will change.
Zand Gundersen perks ears
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: or when Linden Labs get's better computers to run thier servers.
Ash Meersand: An "inside the human body" sim would be fun, but I doubt it could happen within the prim limits
Kooky Jetaime: Jon - are you confusing the prim limits and region bonus factors (That let parcels have a multiple of the normal limit)
Kooky Jetaime: ?
Kati Wunderland: there's one thing i have to ask... is it an urband legend that the Linden can be invisible in-world?
Torley Linden: There was a time when some computers struggled to even do word processing. Now, some cell phones have more processing than mainframes which were, at one time, state-of-the-art. And onwards it goes.
Torley Linden: Kati: Invisible, how?
Torley Linden: Specify more details. :)
Dithean Ringo: lol
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - I think she means the god tools.
Jonit Ivory: sure sure all prims need rendering, but if one owns a sim surely for the tier one should be able to choose one's experience
icktoofay Kamachi: I heard that it can be invisible to LSL, but other than that, no.
icktoofay Kamachi: that they*
Kati Wunderland: like... you're standing next to me and i don't have an idea
Torley Linden: There are tricks to make your avatar invisible and hide your nametag, but no 100% hideable visual way, Lindens still show up on the Mini-Map.
Kooky Jetaime: Jonit - its a matter of the physics rendering, not even client rendering.
Shirley Marquez: I"ve seen them be invisible to my radar
June Oh: Big Brothr Linden
Torley Linden: BUT... we can diagnose remotely, who's in a region and what has to be done to fix it. We can hide from script radar, yes.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: I would think that prim limimts on a sim is based on how well the server it self can handle them.. NOT the clients PC which only shows what's near anyway.
Torley Linden: But we AREN'T PEEPING TOMS!
Torley Linden: :D
Vivienne Daguerre: hehe
June Oh: "blushes"
Dithean Ringo: *^_^*
Kati Wunderland: and if so, you wouldn't admit it :P
Kooky Jetaime: Sure you are Torley :)
Torley Linden: LOL Dithean, that's a great emoticon.
Jonit Ivory: sure but there are regions active and thriving with 30,000 limits
Kooky Jetaime: We see how good you are with a camera
Kooky Jetaime: ;)
Torley Linden: Sometimes I joke about being omnipresent.
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
Dithean Ringo: ty *^_^*
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: I think they can Kati.. but they don't use any logins to do so.
Vivienne Daguerre: there are Jonit?
Ash Meersand: I just cut down my RenderAvatarMaxVisible from the Debug menu to 5, but all these avatars are still being rendered. Is that bugged?
Kooky Jetaime: Jonit - there are and there arn't
Torley Linden: LOL, you should see some of the mail I get, after my camera tutorial helped this one guy, he thanked me because he's upgraded his upskirt-looking skills. Dubious yet true!
Kooky Jetaime: A sim can not have more than 15,000 rezzed prims, even if the limit says 100,000
icktoofay Kamachi: You may have to relog, Ash.
Dithean Ringo: lol
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: LOL!!!!
Shirley Marquez: maybe you're just seeing impostors :)
Torley Linden: Ash, I think that's an older function which may not apply currently. You can hide all avatars or use Impostors, tho.
Bri Gufler: thats hilarious
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: he discovered the CTRL key
Kooky Jetaime: Its offset by the fact that areas are "prim-empty"
Ash Meersand: I see. Thanks, Torley.
Torley Linden: We did used to have a hard avatar rendering limit of 30-40 (?) but not currently.
Torley Linden: Impostors has effectively replaced that.
Kooky Jetaime: I've been someplace with 80 avi's before.. nightmare
Kooky Jetaime: my fps is at 6 right now
Lorimae Undercroft: impostering is so king's quest
Shirley Marquez: what if you've got a whole bunch of avatars packed in like sardines though?
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: there needs to be a distance selector for avatar imposters for when an Avi becomes one.
Kooky Jetaime: and I have no imposters
Torley Linden: I have a King's Quest avatar. I've not recolored him yet. :)
icktoofay Kamachi: :p
Torley Linden: KING GRAHAM 8-BIT STYLEE!
Lorimae Undercroft: Wheeee!
Shirley Marquez: there IS a distance selector, Hugs -- the Avatar Detail slider
Torley Linden: HUGSaLOT, infact there is. Avatar Mesh Detail slider.
Kati Wunderland: there is Hugs, it's the avatar detail slider
Torley Linden: Thanks Shirley.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: and I heard there's an issue with Avi imposters with nVidia cards?
Tenebrous Pau: Torley: not sure if someone asked this while i was crashed, but is the 15,000 prim limit only a viewer-side issue?
Torley Linden: I know that's not clear, which is why... I mentioned that in my Graphics Preferences Guide.
icktoofay Kamachi: No, it's server-side.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: really? I max the avi mesh slider
Torley Linden: Tenebrous: I don't conclusively know that. Andrew Linden prolly would.
Kati Wunderland: then that's the furthest distance
icktoofay Kamachi: The 15,000-primlimit is server-side I meant.
Tenebrous Pau: ok no worries, i was thinking maybe havoc4 would help up that limit
June Oh: i rarely crash these days
Kati Wunderland: or it means no imposters are used, not sure
Tenebrous Pau: havok4&
Tenebrous Pau: *
Kooky Jetaime: Hugs - What kind of issue?
Shirley Marquez: you can experiment with it, Hugs, and watch the avis change from real to impostors
Torley Linden: HUGSaLOT: Impostors may be problematic on slower, unsupported systems. Should be fine on supported hardware, if not, I'd like to see what the problem is.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: icktoofy, it would have to be server side, since a viewer isn't going to be displaying all prims in a sim anyway
Kooky Jetaime: I just laugh because it looks like we've gone back to Marioland when I see imposters
Shirley Marquez: main issue I have with them is that prim avatars often look ugly as sin as impostors
icktoofay Kamachi: Yeah, I know, someone asked *again*.
icktoofay Kamachi: :p
Ash Meersand: I was looking at an old November 2007 tutorial, and you said one day we might be able to share Windlight settings like clothes. Is that still on the agenda?
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Kooky, I read (on the blog?) that there was some issue with nVidia cards and having imposters enabled. (me shrugs as to why)
Torley Linden: Sougent: Thanks for the nice words on Twitter!
Torley Linden: Ash: That's correct.
Torley Linden: Still on the agenda.
Flight Band: All Go
Sougent Harrop: Yw Torley
Torley Linden: We plan to make it so you can trade WindLight settings, apply them Estate-side, and collect them like any other Inventory item, effectively.
Ash Meersand: Thanks
Kooky Jetaime: I'm maxed out, with draw at 96m, pushing 9fps.
Torley Linden: Right now the devs from Team WindLight are focusing on something very important... lowering viewer crash rate.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: draw distance is low.. it defualts to 128 me thinks
Torley Linden: And then after that, they'll likely resume further WindLight goodness.
Torley Linden: I generalize here but that's the hope.
Kooky Jetaime: Hgs - I've used imposters on nvid and ati, no problems that I've seen
Shirley Marquez: how about the Dazzle team? Are they working on making the interface skinnable?
Kooky Jetaime: I'm shocked that the first look left the old clouds
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: yeha I'm not seeing any problems my self (GeForce 8800 GT) maybe it was an RC/Beta build that had issues.
Ash Meersand: Is anyone else having a problem with the web browser and new All search where it won't scroll down?
Arawn Spitteler could never use Imposters.
Sougent Harrop: Well, the most recent RC was a tiny step backwards in the crash rate arena
Kooky Jetaime: Shirley - come to Ben's meeting in a couple hours for the answer to that one.
Torley Linden: Shirley: Yes, certainly, that's a future phase.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Kooky: AGREED! I hate those clouds.
Torley Linden: Right now we have some user-created skins, and then, we'll make it easier later on to change between them.
Kooky Jetaime: Hugs - You can turn them off
Shirley Marquez: with all the Dazzle hate out there I think it should be the present phase...
Rebbecca Riggles: Please can the release keys button be removed
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: i know
Kooky Jetaime: Environemt Editor, Advanced Sky, Clouds, disable "Draw Classic Clouds"
Jaymes Kjeller: With Windlight, I've finally reaslised that most of my hardware is out-of-date in the era of multi-core processors. :p
Shirley Marquez: I'm with the people who say not to release Dazzle until the UI can be skinned
Kooky Jetaime: that should be off by default actually.
Shirley Marquez: though I don't actually mind it myself
Ford Roffo: skinned
Kooky Jetaime: Unless Atmospheric Shaders are unavalable, then on by default.
Ash Meersand: What does it mean to rebake a texture?
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Acctually, correct me of im wrong, but the windlight engine acctually LOWRED the system equirements for the SL Viewer.. no?
Kooky Jetaime: Shirley - There are a lot who agree
Torley Linden: Well, to be fair, some of that "Dazzle hate" is the same people saying the same thing. I also understand general human aversion to change. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:Skinning
Shirley Marquez: otherwise you put people in a hard place -- get the bug fixes but live with the hated UI, or live with more bugs
icktoofay Kamachi: The release keys button shouldn't be removed, or rather, thuid might be better: remove it and put it under tools in the menubar.
Kooky Jetaime: Or at least provide the option to use the "classic" UI or Dazzle
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: not touched dazzle yet..
Vivienne Daguerre: In build mode on the colour select box, I used to be able to grab the selected colour box and pull it down to a swatch so I can easily select and use it again. When I try that now, the whole box moves around. Am I doing something wrong there Torley, or is this a new issue that you may have noticed?
Kooky Jetaime: Some are arguing that Dazzle should be tabled and just go straight for skinability
icktoofay Kamachi: this, not thuid :p
Lorimae Undercroft: dazzle made me squint hehe
Torley Linden: WindLight shouldn't increase system requirements, that's right. You can disable WindLight via Preferences > Graphics tab, turn off Atmospheric Shaders.
Jonit Ivory: I think Windlight is absolutely lovely :)
Kooky Jetaime: Folks, for discussions about Dazzle, attend Ben Linden's hours, I believe 3pm, in Beaumont
Torley Linden: Kooky: I'm waiting to hear more from people who haven't been in Second Life yet, what they think... since they have no prior context.
Shirley Marquez: I'm pretty sure that one is a bug, Vivienne
Sougent Harrop: I don't mind Dazzle, but the color contrasts are hard to deal with after a while, I need glasses to do computer work as it is and stess on the eyes doesn't help
June Oh: think I 've got used to the silver now
Torley Linden: Thanks Kooky, yes... Benjamin Linden is head of Resident Experience Team, he's Director of User Design here at Linden Lab and a very nice guy to boot.
Ash Meersand: When I came from Orientation Island recently, I noticed that the Volcano Goddess no longer responds to hulaing. Why is she no longer pleased?
Kooky Jetaime: Torley, can I have a job :)
Torley Linden: Ash, oh dear, maybe she is bored and needs to be enlivened.
Kooky Jetaime: *Chuckles
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: i work for lindens!
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: lol
Torley Linden: Haha Kooky. =)
Squeebee Wakawaka: M Linden is the last person torley said yes to.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: lindens are worth more than peanuts
Torley Linden: Vivienne, that's in 1.20? I'll check that out later.
Vivienne Daguerre: thanks :)
Torley Linden: And by the way if I didn't answer your question and somehow missed it, please feel free to repeat it. :)
Vivienne Daguerre: yes, and in the current main release too
Torley Linden: OK Vivienne, thanks. Will check it out, when did you last recall it working? 1.19.0? 1.18.5?
Cliff Etzel: Torley the link you asked me for i sent in IM
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Torley you did do a video on Dazzle right? got the URL handy?
Torley Linden: Oh thanks Cliff. *clips and saves it*
Vivienne Daguerre: the old Windlight First Look
Torley Linden: HUGSaLOT, no, I didn't do a specific video on Dazzle. Amras Alder did but he removed it.
Cliff Etzel: thanks Torley :-)
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: oh drat..
Torley Linden: =)
Sylectra Darwin: I just wanted to thank you very much for the snapshot tutorial. It helped a lot!
Second Life: Your object 'Object' has been returned to your inventory lost and found folder from parcel 'Outy's Particle Paradise, Mieto' at Mieto 3.32301, 65.0041 due to parcel auto return.
Torley Linden: You're super-welcome, Sylectra! Glad it did.
Bri Gufler: Torley thanks for the info on Camtasia. I have downloaded it and this looks like a fantastic tool!
icktoofay Kamachi: :p [12:33] HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: oh drat.. [12:33] Torley Linden: =)
Torley Linden: Which specific one are you referring to, may I ask, Sylectra? I actually have done several by now.
Squeebee Wakawaka: I use Camtasia at work and it's awesome.
Kati Wunderland: it's actually gotten a bit easier on the eyes in the RC3
Zand Gundersen: i do heve my own transcript of 4-17-08 if you interested
Shirley Marquez: the video on the graphics preferences has saved me a LOT of time trying to explain them
Sylectra Darwin: I'll go look. brb
Torley Linden: Sylectra let me know if it's not the same as http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Snapshot_tips :D
Kooky Jetaime: Torley, I have an argument that I'd like to make since your a big fan of user experiance.
Shirley Marquez: now I can tell people to go watch Torley :)
Torley Linden: Kooky, sure.
Ash Meersand: What does it mean to velocity interpolate objects, from the Networks part of the debug menu?
Torley Linden: Aw thanks Shirley.
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/21323
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: why am i craving mellons?
Torley Linden: Zand, please send it to me if you could! I'd appreciate it.
Isabel Susanti: OH NO
Kati Wunderland: i liked that comment in the changelog:
Kati Wunderland: Fixed: VWR-5080: Certain color combinations hard on visually impaired (and the not-visually-impaired)
Isabel Susanti: they are mine >:D
Kooky Jetaime: I've been told by others (CG) that the name is used because its not going to Aditi, but PLEASEEEEE stop calling these new clients "Release Canditates". In the grand sceme of things, they are beta's on the main grid.
Chase Marellan: Not sure I'd agree that that's fixed, though.
Torley Linden: Ash, not sure about that one.
Sylectra Darwin: Great photo tutorial - Advanced Snapshot Magic - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZyBNBW2yjI
Kooky Jetaime: People are learning RC means almost done, (thanks to MS releasing RC's)
Torley Linden: Kooky: Not sure what you mean? We in part adopted the name because of common software development practices.
Zand Gundersen gave you 4-17-08.
Kati Wunderland: there will have to be adjustable color schemes without having to deal with XML files
Kooky Jetaime: but releasing these obvious beta class software calling them RC's is only doing a disservice to users.
bigjr Slade: hy guys its my first time here ... i have rund the 1.20.RC3 in 6 Hours but only 3 outs .... but i see blue red green blows... thats look like transpernz ? is that a bug or can i tht dinable ?
Torley Linden: Ah yes that one, thanks Sylectra! And you'll want to see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Snapshot_tips if you haven't yet. :)
Torley Linden: Zand thanks VERY much.
Torley Linden: I'll add that later.
Sougent Harrop: I agree, they aren't stable enough to be considered a release candidate
Sougent Harrop: IMO
Arawn Spitteler: RCs should be dones, waiting on Beta Testing, and some haven't finished Alp[ha
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: there's a diffrence bettween RCs and Betas.. Betas are still open to new functions and features. RCs are bascially finnished products and only testing for serious "show stopper" bugs (like crashes) no new functions.features will be added to it.
Zand Gundersen: your welcome torly
Torley Linden: bigjr, sounds like Update Objects is on!?
Sylectra Darwin: ty - will book mark it now
Zand Gundersen: torley*
Squeebee Wakawaka: Kooky how does this differ from anywhere else?
Shirley Marquez: Torley, an RC usually means something is very close to release; the bug level in 1.20 really isn't up to that designation yet, and the first RC sure as *deleted* wasn't
Torley Linden: bigjr, Advanced menu > Show Updates, set that to off.
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - CG said the only reason they are not called Beta clients is because the term is already usurped by the "Beta Grid" (Aditi)
Torley Linden: Shirley, to be fair, 1.20 has been a LOT more problematic than most previous RCs.
Aria Dragonash: i had nearly no crashes with the RCs before the 1.20
Kati Wunderland: agreed
Kooky Jetaime: RC's should be close to bug-free
Aria Dragonash: no i cant use it anymore ^^
Ford Roffo: I've never seen anyone handle so many questions and such a crowd merely typing... incredible
Kooky Jetaime: and almost finalized
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie has been happy with Nicholaz Ed EC-e :)
Kooky Jetaime: Torley is good :)
Arawn Spitteler's curious why hte RCs couldn't be used today
Ford Roffo: I'll say :)
bigjr Slade: :-) thanks..
Squeebee Wakawaka: RCs mean that internal testing shows no bugs and it's time for real world testing.
Torley Linden: Kooky: But realistically, there are always lots of little (and bigger) bugs — a difference with Second Life is we're very open and transparent about them so it looks like there's more problems than there actually are. (Perception.)
Torley Linden: Thanks Ford!
Kati Wunderland: read the blog, Arawn
Kooky Jetaime: Thats what I consider "Beta" class Squeebee
Torley Linden: Happy to help, hehe.
icktoofay Kamachi: If you know, Torley, why on the Join page are there only a few last names compared to how many there were when I signed up? It seems to pick random ones that are still available, but why did the Lindens remove the long list?
Shirley Marquez: Arawn, the current RC has some major bugs -- for example, Edit Appearance = instant crash
Torley Linden: That's why we pulled RC3.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: no RCs might have bugs.. and still tend to do so... but only big show-stopping bugs are what's at issue..
Vivienne Daguerre: I shall be off now. Torley it has been a pleasure to meet you in avatar. Please keep up the excellent work!
Squeebee Wakawaka: Now you may argue that there is not enough QA prior but the termis being properly used.
Ford Roffo: You're welcome, glad I finaly mad it to one of there :)
Torley Linden: icktoofay, in part because of confusion amongst many choices. We're still discussing how to improve the registration flow.
Ford Roffo: these*
Vivienne Daguerre: waves bye to all...
Torley Linden: Have a good one Vivienne, take care!
Kati Wunderland: so... will "show look at" be back in the announced RC4? :)
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Okay, I love you, Buh Bye!!
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: i have starbucks!
Ford Roffo: I am starstruck
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: well i did... all gone :(
icktoofay Kamachi: hugs, you had starbucks and torley has spacenavagator :p
Torley Linden: And it's true we do our best to squash a lot of bugs internally but there are thousands upon thousands of systems out there with varying configurations we can't account for. (No, I'm not making a Mac vs. PC argument, altho greater control does mean less room for variability and problems.)
Ford Roffo: I gotta get one of those
Torley Linden: Our Quality Assurance Team continues to grow... :)
Bri Gufler: I'm really looking for a stable 1.20 - I love the Spacenavigator.
Bri Gufler: *for=forward to
June Oh: me too
Torley Linden: Me too Bri. I'd use 1.20 more if it didn't crash me so much.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Oh I've done QA many moons ago..
Squeebee Wakawaka: Then use 1.20 and report what you encounter.
Bri Gufler: I tried RC3 earlier but the memory leaks are painful.
icktoofay Kamachi: I'm going to get a SpaceNavigator soon.
Ash Meersand: I went and counted the number of different freebies available on Orientation Island and Help Island, plus the Library, and Torley, your textures make up over 25% of them!
Kati Wunderland: RC3 hasn't crashed on me so far.... RC2 used to every 5-10 minutes
Torley Linden: Wow really, Ash! That's good to know.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Nicholaz <ahem> mem leaks!
Bri Gufler: I have been reporting the issues and went to the bug triage/bridie meetings.
Torley Linden: I haven't checked those closely frequently but, I may make more textures in the future.
Jaymes Kjeller: PCs (and Macs too) can have an unlimited number of configuations. For the Lindens to test them, it would take them years.
Torley Linden: Of course, any help making Second Life better is appreciated. That sometimes goes undersaid so I want to EMPHASIZE it.
Bri Gufler: Unfortunately the memory leak issues are tough. Its hard to track down the specific circumstances that create the problem.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Macs not as much since it's a closed and conrolled hardware platform.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: even though it's the same parts as a PC now adays
Kooky Jetaime: Bri - the memory leaks are why I use Nicholaz' version.
Torley Linden: We are already getting bug reports from people running on unofficial "openMac" hardware tho...
Kati Wunderland: but that might have been the laggy asset server causing most of the connection timeouts
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: REALLY?
Bri Gufler: Torley - you mean people reporting bugs that are running OSX on non-apple hardware?
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: there's a company that's just starting to sell mac clones... for like $800
Kooky Jetaime: I'm at 975MB right now
Jaymes Kjeller: True
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: but it may be a hoax
Kooky Jetaime: thats with 512 for textures alone
Torley Linden: Yes Bri! Thanks for stating that clearly.
Kooky Jetaime: (512 video ram)
Sylectra Darwin: Torley, does it slow down our indiv SL experience if our inventories are overflowing?
Bri Gufler: Very cool.
Rebbecca Riggles: How usefull are the automatic crash reports the viewer generates on restart? Are the evaluated at all?
Kati Wunderland: it crashes on me at about 1.2-1.3 gigs
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - wasn't the "OpenMac" a bluff?
Torley Linden: Sylectra, yes, for example, your inventory will load slower and take longer to cache.
Shirley Marquez: I know it slows the login, Sylectra, and dealing with inventory
Torley Linden: Kooky, I meant what Bri said. :)
Jonit Ivory: my crash reports never send successfully
Arawn Spitteler saw some earlier, but doesn't know if they even uploaded.
Sylectra Darwin: :)
Kati Wunderland: maybe the inbox is full XD
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: you can hack OS X on a PC.. but the EULA from Apple states NO!
Shirley Marquez: Kooky, the OpenMac as a commercial product might have been, but personally built ones are not
Torley Linden: Bulky inventory also is harder to search, just like anything large and complex would tend to be.
Sylectra Darwin: Any advice on how to manage it better? Do you have storage lockers? hehe
Kooky Jetaime: I heard about it, but saw follow up news articles that said the company was basically a vaporware
Jaymes Kjeller: Apparently, you can run OSX on a PC, but it's a nightmare to do, not to mention licencing issues if you managed it.
Torley Linden: Sylectra, haha, I have a video tutorial for that too, wanna see? :)
Bri Gufler: Has anyone compared running SL under OS X to running SL under windows on a Mac with Bootcamp?
Sougent Harrop: And how would you define "bulky"?
Sylectra Darwin: you bet I want to see that inventory video.
Bri Gufler: I would love to compare notes - sadly I see about 20fps more under Windows XP than I do under OS X on the exact same machine :(
Shirley Marquez: Bri, I've run both viewers on identical MacBook Pros, and their performance is about the same
Torley Linden: I try to keep my own inventory under 7,500. I'd recommend no more than 10,000.
Torley Linden: But that's my personal preference.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: chances are the people who are running MAC OS X on a PC didn't buy the OS anyway. so the EULA is kina out the window (bad pun)
Torley Linden: NOT a hard rule.
Ash Meersand: Does anyone here know what the tallest inhabited skyscraper is in SecondLife?
Torley Linden: Ash, I'd like to find out myself! Likely no taller than 4096 m.
Sougent Harrop: I guess 21, 481 would be bulky.....
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - 16,448 here :)
CeeJay Tigerpaw: In chitchat with people I know at Apple, they indicate that running OS X on a canonical Intel PC is indeed possible, but they don't want to hear about it...
SLBuzz.com Message: New mail from Nimrod Szondi - please log into http://messages.slbuzz.com/ to read.
Sylectra Darwin: My inventory is about 8500 items - I will clean it out.
Shirley Marquez: but that's the OLD version with the Radeon x1600 -- the Mac drivers for the NVidia 8600 had problems for a while
Ford Roffo: I want to run sl on 'ultra' and 512 draw at a good fps rate.. how much must i invest in a dell XPS gaming tower only to accomplisht that, about $2,000.00 USD?
Squeebee Wakawaka: I want to see tools someday that fish out duplicate objects in inv.
Torley Linden: Sylectra, see "How to manage your inventory" here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Video_Tutorials#More.21 :)
Kooky Jetaime: Ford - what do you call a good FPS?
Ford Roffo: I dunno
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: you really do NOT need a wizbang computer to run SL.
Kooky Jetaime: I do a good rate, in the 20s, normally
Sougent Harrop: That would be a nice tool, dupe finder....
Bri Gufler: Thanks Shirley. I did this experiment yesterday on my 8-Core Mac Pro - and saw 20fps more under windows than I did under OSX - same machine with dual boot. I was sad to see that.
Ford Roffo: with all that I gess 10
Ash Meersand: I calculated and noticed that assuming maximum dimensions of 10x10x10 per prim, a skyscraper in SecondLife couldn't be 1000m tall while staying within the server limit
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: you DO need broadband..
Kooky Jetaime: and you could do it with less than a grand in hardware
Arawn Spitteler: First, open your Inventory, and, at the top area, type Object
Ash Meersand: I mean sim limit
Shirley Marquez: and don't forget the fast net connection, Ford -- if your bottleneck is getting data from the servers, NO video card will help
Jaymes Kjeller: 15 FPS is typically pretty smooth, and it's the limit that the lag meter uses.
Ford Roffo: Kooky can we chat sometime about it
Ford Roffo: I am unsavvy puter wise
Torley Linden: Arawn, very good tip to remove generic stuff.
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/21325
Ford Roffo: I jsut want the best reasonable tower to handle sl
Sylectra Darwin: Thanks Torley, I saved it!
Torley Linden: You're welcome. :D
Shirley Marquez: Bri, I think the problem is the video drivers, the Mac ones still aren't as good as the Windows drivers
Sougent Harrop: Unfortunately, you need to know the name to use search to find dupes.
Torley Linden: In time, costs will continue to go down, and technology will get better.
Bri Gufler: I think you are correct Shirley.
Torley Linden: I wish Mac video drivers were more configurable.
Kooky Jetaime: Ford - a 1000 machine, with a good video card as part of it, should be fine.
Bri Gufler: The Mac OS X drivers always seem to be behind the Windows ones in performance, etc.
Sougent Harrop: Would be nice to filter without the folders showing so everything is together, sorted by name....
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Sylectra Darwin: If you love Second Life, does it make sense to avoid laptops for now?
Torley Linden: Also re: Inventory, always a good idea to delete Trash regularly and purge your Lost And Found folder.
Ford Roffo: I know less about computers than 90% of the people here I'm sure
Ford Roffo: a 1000?
Squeebee Wakawaka: I get a fine framerate on a laptop.
Kooky Jetaime: OMG all the typing!!!
Sylectra Darwin: ty, I do
Aranur Kamachi: Hello
Tenebrous Pau: sylectra - i run SL exclusively on laptops, and i don't have any issues...
Torley Linden: Sylectra, quality laptops handle Second Life very well. Higher-end "gaming" ones in particular.
Sougent Harrop: I'm running SL on a laptop, Tosheba Satellite
Shirley Marquez: Sylectra, you can do OK with a laptop, but you will never get the frame rate that a high-end desktop gets
Sylectra Darwin: ~lust~
Jaymes Kjeller: Mind you, it does amaze me how fast technology can improve. Back in 1997, Pentium II's were all the rage, and now, you have Dual-and-Quad core CPUs. (Not both at the same time, of course.)
Torley Linden: I don't know of anyone who's run Second Life on an Eee yet but that seems inevitable.
Ford Roffo: i got a HP gaming lappy
Squeebee Wakawaka: I'm only gettijng 5fps right now on my laptop but I get it fine in a non-crowded area.
Tenebrous Pau: lol torley
Kooky Jetaime: Don't forget about tri-cores
Arawn Spitteler sees Grey People, and he doesn't know they're grey.
Shirley Marquez: I've heard of it being run on an Eee, or at least walked :)
Torley Linden: Tri-cores are an interesting marketing thing.
Ford Roffo: one was a tri core
Aria Dragonash: my 1st machine had awesome 25 MHz *lol*
Ford Roffo: one a quad core
Shirley Marquez: but I think thesystem had been upgraded with 2GB of RAM
Bri Gufler: I tried SL on a MacBook Air :) it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be - but I wouldnt use it regularly.
Ford Roffo: i dunno which to get
Kooky Jetaime: arn't they Torle
Kooky Jetaime: Torley
Ford Roffo: these were dells
Leaving god mode, level 200
Squeebee Wakawaka: 25mhz? Lucky!
Sougent Harrop: Of course, I have .5 FPS at themoment
Ford Roffo: =turns sound off-
Aria Dragonash: yeah it ruled *lol*
Sylectra Darwin: I had a computer built with a good graphics card.
Kooky Jetaime: I'm sure as we get into higher ^power processors, we'll get more off # core sets
Sylectra Darwin: Just for Second Life,
Torley Linden: We can all joke about how 10 MB hard drives used to cost US$2000 and all that.
Kooky Jetaime: Cuz once you get 16 core die's, having two dead cores, still leaves you 14 good and working ones..
Bri Gufler: My first hard drive was 5MB and was almost $2,000 :(
Tenebrous Pau: i'm in the Vollee/SecondLife beta... that'll be interesting... running SL on a windows mobile phone :)
Aranur Kamachi: Know anyone, where I can find some Floor/Ground Textures?
Ellla McMahon: duplicate items in Inv ... open your Map and look at the LM drop down menu ... there's a place to start :)
Arawn Spitteler would like to restore "Download Graphics," as an option
Rebbecca Riggles: Thank god we dont have to load SL from paper tape :)
Ivy Lane: my sound won't work righ tnow :( hello everyone
Torley Linden: Aranur, did you look in the Inventory > Library folder?
Ash Meersand: Would a computer able to access SecondLife on the lowest graphics setting with a framerate of 10fps on average still be able to access it in 5 years, or would they be expected to just get a better computer by Linden Research, Inc.?
Ford Roffo cries albeit briefly
Shirley Marquez: some of those AMD tri-core chips are probably quad-core chips with one that doesn't work
Squeebee Wakawaka: I remember upgrading to a full meg of ram for $500
icktoofay Kamachi: Aranur, get some of torley's textures! :p
Aria Dragonash: aranur, take a lookt at harbingers haven sandbox, they offer many free textures
Ford Roffo: too much data for me to take in
Torley Linden: LOL, my World Map is wonked, sez there's just 1 person here. That can't be true.
Sylectra Darwin: Do we want most computer users to be able to access Second Life?
Kooky Jetaime: Shirley - thats what a lot of people are saying
Sougent Harrop: Can you run todays MS Word on a computer from 5 years ago?
Kooky Jetaime: Torley, I see a ton of dots
Aranur Kamachi: okay, thank you ..
Tenebrous Pau: we're all you're Alts, Torley
Simon Kline: heheh the rest are just imagination figments
Kooky Jetaime: and 38 agents, so.. :)
Ford Roffo: L25?
Torley Linden: Yeah Kooky, you're not just my imagination!
Squeebee Wakawaka: If it's coming to cell phones, it will work on a five year old computer ;)
Bri Gufler: Maybe we figured out how to use the linden "Hide from Radar" capability :)
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
Rebbecca Riggles: Its true Torley, the rest are figments of a deranged imagination
Ford Roffo: are we his alts, seriously???
Torley Linden: OH THE IRONY.
Tenebrous Pau: that's what i was thinking Squeebee lol
Torley Linden: I am a big Philip K. Dick fan.
Shirley Marquez: video card companies do the same thing... the NVidia 8800GS uses the same chip as an 8800GT but some of the stream processors are disabled
Kooky Jetaime: If I we were a dream, there'd be rum.
Arawn Spitteler is Torley on Drugs
Torley Linden: It's hard to come up with a catchy way to describe PKD fans.
Ford Roffo: I may be someone's alt and not even know it? that's freaking me out
Torley Linden: "Dickheads" just doesn't sound right.
Squirrel Wood tosses acorns at Torley :p
Simon Kline: hehe me too torley! i keep reasing imposter in case the ending changes
Squeebee Wakawaka: Yes Torly, I just wish the movies of his books didn't suck.
Tenebrous Pau: oh i dunno torley... lol
icktoofay Kamachi: Irony: The state of having the metal/mineral/something like that Iron...
Sylectra Darwin: hehehe!
Shirley Marquez: Torley, I thought we call them "residents" *grin*
Sylectra Darwin: I love that author too.
Torley Linden: Shirley, yeah, that's what they do with a lot of processors too that can't run at a higher speed, they sell them as lower-end versions. Makes more sense than throwing them away.
Kooky Jetaime: Yep
Jonit Ivory: did someone say Dickhead?
Torley Linden: I did!
Ford Roffo: Im sorry Kooky
Jonit Ivory: trush it was Torley :(
Kooky Jetaime: Just wait till we have 32 core systems
Torley Linden: LOL.
Ford Roffo: what was 'a 1000'?
Kooky Jetaime: Or 64
Jaymes Kjeller: Second Life on a mobile phone? Never in a millon years will be as good as on a PC, or a Mac!
Ford Roffo: is it a model # ?
Tenebrous Pau: Kooky... i think Intel were demoing a 32-CPU system that was doing real-time raytracing
Flight Band: All Go
Sylectra Darwin: Torley, what's the best way to get someone's attention in a group chat setting?
Torley Linden: Hahaha Second Life on a mobile phone, I once made a video joking about that.
Squeebee Wakawaka: I doubt that's the goal Jaymes.
Tenebrous Pau: Jaymes... get back to me in a month when the finally let me play with the beta lol
Kooky Jetaime: Tenebrous - And didn't nVidia show off one that blitzed it? no, that was particle physics
Shirley Marquez: that was an 8-socket system though, wasn't it?
Rebbecca Riggles: iPhone client ? lol
Ford Roffo: VOLLEE?
Tenebrous Pau: yeah that was particles
Squeebee Wakawaka: IM Them Sylectra?
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: you mean Windows, and Mac. All the same hardware more or less
Simon Kline: would be a good april fools prank
Ford Roffo: I reading about that
Aria Dragonash: yeah 32 cores and a power consumption that will make you have your own powerplant in the garden ^^
Torley Linden: Sylectra, in public? Or private group chat? Some people respond well to IMs. I do not. =) I guess when all else fails, start poofing particles and scream "AHHHHHH!!!!!" j/k
Shirley Marquez: AMD is talking about a 12 core chip for next year though
Bri Gufler: If the Vollee stuff works 1/2 as well as they show in the videos it will be really interesting!
Arawn Spitteler suggestes to Sylectra: they might notice their name
Sylectra Darwin: LOL
Ford Roffo: too fast
Tenebrous Pau: Bri... yeah, i hope it works out, it looks promising
Sougent Harrop: Forget SL on a mobile phoine, when will it be on the PS3, XBox and Wii?
Jaymes Kjeller: That was the point. Torley made a video about it. :)
Ash Meersand: Would a computer able to access SecondLife on the lowest graphics setting with a framerate of 10fps on average still be able to access it in 5 years, or would they be expected to just get a better computer by Linden Research, Inc.?
Kooky Jetaime: Aria - less power to multi-core than it is to multi-processor
Squeebee Wakawaka: Screw more cores, give me faster IO.
Squirrel Wood: AHHHHHHHHHHH! ;p
Torley Linden: lonetorus that is AWESOME hair. :D
Torley Linden: I totally like that.
Sylectra Darwin: Yes, in public group settings. I have a friend who is very popular, and IMs are completely missed. Thanks!
Shirley Marquez: SL on any of those game systems would be a major port -- no OpenGL
Squeebee Wakawaka: Ash we already answered.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: multi-core is kina moot when 1) OSes don't utilize multi-cores 2) windows 64bit is barely mainstream.
Bri Gufler: I signed up for the beta on that. I signed up with every cell phone I have just to make sure they accept me :) Im sure one of them will be supported.
Ford Roffo: can someone sand me a transcript of this? if there is one?
Ford Roffo: can I make one
Rebbecca Riggles: @Squeebbe, lol
Sylectra Darwin: Wish I could just touch him lightly on the shoulder.
Torley Linden: Ford, I promise to post a transcript on my page.
Torley Linden: Thanks for asking.
Torley Linden: Transcripts will appear later @ http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden
Kooky Jetaime: I've got to run
Torley Linden: And thanks to Zand for supplying me with the 2008-04-17 one, that'll fill in da blank.
Ford Roffo: lol thanks, is all so fast for a computer idiot and a 2 fingered typist
Kooky Jetaime: My girl is having problems....
Ford Roffo: :)
Ash Meersand: Sorry, I was trying to scroll through my chat history but it keeps slipping and sliding because of the input
Kooky Jetaime waves to all
Zand Gundersen: YW
Torley Linden: Awww I type with 2 fingers too.
Ford Roffo: NO WAY
Ash Meersand: Thanks for your availability, Mr. Torley
Torley Linden: I never learned the "proper' way to type, and look where it got me.
Tenebrous Pau: from what i can tell, it looks as though the Vollee solution may be hosted... they run SL for you, and send you video from it... i guess kinda like remote desktop
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: no thumbs?
Ford Roffo: NO WAY
Sylectra Darwin: bye kooky!
Torley Linden: I use thumbs on space bar.
Ford Roffo: LOLOLOL
Jonit Ivory: please edit me out of teh transcript, I'm supposed to be writing a conference paper :)
Torley Linden: But I mainly use my pointing fingers on all the keys. I MAY use other fingers on arrow keys and stuff when navigating.
Ford Roffo: LOLOLOL Torley come on
Cliff Etzel: i gotta split too thanks Torley :-)
Ash Meersand: That's what I do! 80wpm but they still insist I do it the "right" way
Torley Linden: I'm not kidding, I'm serious. :-D
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: i use 6 fingers.. three on each side.. and left thumb
Torley Linden: Haha, LOL.
Cliff Etzel: laters everyone
Kooky Jetaime: Hugs - me too
Ford Roffo: you must type how many WPS??
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: pinky shifts on occasion
Aria Dragonash: interesting torley. piano player but 2 finger typing ^^
Kooky Jetaime: and I can do 80
Kati Wunderland: i never counted
Shirley Marquez: I learned typing way back in high school -- probably the single most useful class I ever took
Ford Roffo: 160?
Torley Linden: Ash, yeah, I find that, whatever works best for you as a tool, and besides, current keyboard design is so archaic... there must be better ways to get information in.
Sougent Harrop: Best thing I ever learned in high school, touch typing.
Torley Linden: Aria, yes, I'm an odd watermelon that way. Hehe.
Aria Dragonash: haha
Torley Linden: I'm 120 WPM most of the time.
Coughran Mayo: agree with Shirley and Sougent
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: i can type 1000 wps with 100% typos!
Torley Linden: Not that fast, Ford, I wish I were.
Coughran Mayo: took typing in SUMMER SCHOOL....VOLUNTARILY
Ford Roffo: don't eat the butterflies
Torley Linden: Maybe someday I'll learn "the correct way" and Dvorak layout and be faster.
Torley Linden: Who knows!
Ford Roffo: I assume NO liability
Arawn Spitteler is also curious, as to how user-system variability is going to be dynamically supported, over the years of development: Is it possible to maintain backwards compatibility, or will optimizations be insisted on?
Kati Wunderland: and i can confirm what hugs said
Sylectra Darwin: I hope we never get voice chat completely - I would miss the text.
Tenebrous Pau: Torley: http://emotiv.com/INDS_3/inds_3.html
Torley Linden: I encourage self-development!
Torley Linden: Sylectra, me too, text is great for a lot of things. I support multimedia, using different mediums for what they're best for.
Sylectra Darwin: I think we'd talk over each other.
Shirley Marquez: voice would actually not work as well for a big free-for-all like this
Ivy Lane: slef development is good, i never miss the text love voice
Ford Roffo: noone can handle all of us and type that fast to boot
Ford Roffo: who IS this guy?
Tenebrous Pau thinks the emotiv thing is a gimmick
Sylectra Darwin: Truely lovely meeting you Torley....peace to you.
Squeebee Wakawaka: He's a robot.
Torley Linden: You too Sylectra, take care!
Ford Roffo: Ive been at voice chats with less people and nothing got done
Ford Roffo: sheeeeesh
Torley Linden: Hahah "big free-for-all", I like that.
June Oh: thanks
Shirley Marquez: but then I'm terrible at sorting out multiple voices -- can't do it in RL either
Torley Linden: *gazes into the heart of The Matrix*
Torley Linden: I am an AI. :-)
Torley Linden: Too many voices to me sounds like background noise when you're dining at a restaurant.
June Oh: Torley thankyou
Ford Roffo: but it's a free for all that works somehow.. I've never seen anything like it
CeeJay Tigerpaw: I wish I were some kind of _I ...
Ash Meersand: He is the end of darkness. He is the beginning of light. He is the creator of hope. He is the destroyer of despair. He's Torley Linden, here to save the day.
Ford Roffo: specially without voice
Torley Linden: I'm curious about the Emotiv because it's at a somewhat-good price point. We'll see. We'll see! *shakes fist*
Torley Linden: Hey that's realy awesome Ash!
icktoofay Kamachi: Speaking of Artificial Intelligence... where did I put my script for that?
AKEYO_shoe_chuck RIGHT [script:chucks.core]: Script run-time error
AKEYO_shoe_chuck RIGHT [script:chucks.core]: Too Many Listens
Torley Linden: I do like that. :)
AKEYO_shoe_chuck LEFT [script:chucks.core]: Script run-time error
AKEYO_shoe_chuck LEFT [script:chucks.core]: Too Many Listens
Squeebee Wakawaka: Torley sees you all as streams of code.
Torley Linden: Haha, with a warm-and-fuzzy human touch.
Ford Roffo: LOL Squee
Torley Linden: I have this funny line in my Linden Lab internal employee profile...
Tenebrous Pau: Torley... same as the VR920... very reasonably priced, seems like a good idea. but, oh dear, no vista drivers. no nvidia 3d stero :(
Torley Linden: "* I'm brutal about efficiency but don't let that scare you because I laugh a lot."
Sougent Harrop: I'm just and old fashioned NI (Natural Intelligence)
bigjr Slade: i can see with windlight the sun in water or in the dark... lights on the water.. but can i see me in the glassmirror ? ( ihope thats the right word for Spiegel)
Zand Gundersen: lol
Object (TORLEY MOD): I'm glad you find this amusing.
CeeJay Tigerpaw: My main reason for joining SL was to do an AI project here.
Ford Roffo: avg IQ in here must be like 175
Torley Linden: I try to sum up what I really enjoy doing here tho, and a lot of it REALLY is about amplifying YOUR awesome. Helping you self-discover stuff and feel better because of it.
Ford Roffo: sheeeeesh
Object (TORLEY MOD): Your main reason for joining SL was to do an AI project here?
Shirley Marquez: if you run into Sidewinder, let him know that the work on Havok4 totally rocked
Object (TORLEY MOD): I think I do.
Torley Linden: Oooh fascinating.
Object (TORLEY MOD): Do you feel that something is missing from your life?
Torley Linden: Shirley, oh I sure will pass that on to him!
Object (TORLEY MOD): Do you feel more body sensations than emotions?
Torley Linden: Thanks for sharing.
Object (TORLEY MOD): My pleasure.
Arawn Spitteler is an intellectual God, and has others to think for him: Intelligence isn't all it's cracked up to be, but mostly a worry, that you can't get things right
Object (TORLEY MOD): YOU? It could be. Ask if it is.
Jonit Ivory: Isabel wb etc
Object (TORLEY MOD): By the way, do you mind if I ask you a personal question?
Squeebee Wakawaka grabs a gun and hunts down the AI.
Object (TORLEY MOD): YOU? That question has never crossed my mind before.
Torley Linden: It reminds me of those who wish they could be immortal...
Object (TORLEY MOD): What does "it" refer to?
Torley Linden: and then they are bored after living 1,000 years.
Object (TORLEY MOD): Good reasoning. bored after living 1 000 years are they.
Jaymes Kjeller: Controlling Second Life with your mind...it would be interesting to see.
Object (TORLEY MOD): Are we still talking about grabs a gun and hunts down the AI? Interesting. I want to find out more about you.
Tenebrous Pau: Torley... they integrated the Space Nav with SL... can you poke someone to do the VR920 stereo display next pls :) :P
Ford Roffo: lol
Object (TORLEY MOD): If you could have any kind of robot what would it be? Who does "they" refer to? Let me think. Tell me a story.
Object (TORLEY MOD): I'm glad you find this amusing.
CeeJay Tigerpaw: *My* AI project, fortunately, is not loquacious...
Object (TORLEY MOD): Your AI project fortunately is not loquacious?
Ford Roffo: no immortality wished here
Object (TORLEY MOD): Far out. I will mention that to my , .
Torley Linden: I love that word, loquacious.
Squeebee Wakawaka: I'm just waiting for the immersive VR where I think I am in the grid.
Jonit Ivory: it would take that 100 years to get some of our students to graduate :(
Object (TORLEY MOD): It's good to meet someone with such good taste.
Jonit Ivory: *1000
Object (TORLEY MOD): Do you feel that something is missing from your life?
Torley Linden: I would SO use "Loquacious" as a character name... like "Loquacious Jones, Interstellar Detective" or something.
Object (TORLEY MOD): What would make you SO use Loquacious as a character name? Or something. Interesting comparison.
Ford Roffo: no oxygen filled tents either please
Object (TORLEY MOD): Your polite style is very nice. It goes without saying. Yay. Can you tell me any gossip?
Torley Linden: Haha icktoofay, very amusing.
Object (TORLEY MOD): I'm glad you got a laugh out of it.
icktoofay Kamachi: :D
Object (TORLEY MOD): Do you believe it is better to go it alone?
Squeebee Wakawaka saw Sack as a potential last name yesterday, that would go well with loquacious.
Arawn Spitteler would like to show Jonit some students, from the Ocean of Milk: One Century is not enough, and a mere millenium is serious time pressure.
Jonit Ivory: loquacious is salubrios in it's diaphonous intonation, indeed Torley
Torley Linden: Hahahah Squeebee! OMG...
Ford Roffo: whats the object torley mod?
Torley Linden: I wonder who's chosen rude first names to go with "Sack".
Torley Linden: *can think of at least 3*
Lorimae Undercroft: haha
icktoofay Kamachi: It's mine, I just derezzed it.
Sougent Harrop: Torley, do a people search on "Loquacious"
Jonit Ivory: Sh**t Sack, I need an alt!
Ford Roffo: ty ick not for derez but for answer
Squirrel Wood: rude names? try griefers :p
Torley Linden: Oh my gosh, Search shows that there's a "Ball Sack", a "Balls Sack", and a "Ballz Sack".
Ford Roffo: you're all nutty
Ford Roffo: :D
Torley Linden: Loquacious Lillehook has a fun feel to it.
Torley Linden: Er, Lilliehook.
Torley Linden: "loquacious GossipGirl"?!
Shirley Marquez: but there are also cute possibilities that are less rude -- Dry Sack, Sad Sack, Paper Sack
Ash Meersand: Is it possible to have two different water colors on the same sim, so you might have a deep pool of soda for you to dive into on an island?
Bri Gufler: heheh
Torley Linden: Very very true Shirley. Those are nice.
Rebbecca Riggles: Inthe Sack
Squeebee Wakawaka: of course there is Torley
Jaymes Kjeller: How unimaginative. Those 3 names are just stupid, IMO.
Torley Linden: "Sad Sack" cracks me up.
Ford Roffo: LOL
Jonit Ivory: I have a GossipGirl in my friends list
Squirrel Wood: out-of-groups alert
Tenebrous Pau: lol @ sad sack
Bri Gufler: Ash - I think you would have to do that with Prim Water.
Tenebrous Pau: sorry squirrel :)
Torley Linden: Jaymes, at least it wasn't "Ball44441337 Sack".
Ash Meersand: I see. Thanks, Bri Gufler.
Tenebrous Pau: wanted to collect your amusing name in my amusing names group. lol
Jonit Ivory: she manages to giggle annoyingly even in IM
Jaymes Kjeller: That would be worse
Ivy Lane: Lillihook is a ancestral name, it was taken by a native ancester
Sougent Harrop: Grocery Sack...
Ford Roffo: how long does this conversational fun go on?
Coughran Mayo: I should bring in my alt "Minstrel Sicling"
icktoofay Kamachi: "That Sack"
Squirrel Wood: Money Sack
Lorimae Undercroft: trash sack
Torley Linden: I am leaving in a few minutes but the CONVERSATIONAL FUN will continue a little while longer!
Tenebrous Pau: Hitthe Sack
Torley Linden: "Job Sack"...
Squeebee Wakawaka: GetYouInThe Sack

Kati Wunderland: there's also a "Small Wood" i've seen
Ford Roffo: some will stay and get sillier?
Squirrel Wood: Talking Sack :p
CeeJay Tigerpaw: ForGoodness Sack?
Torley Linden: I'd like to see "Jobs" as a last name!
Torley Linden: I'd imagine so, Ford!
Lorimae Undercroft: hehe ceejay!
icktoofay Kamachi: lol @ squirrel
Torley Linden: Haha that's very funny, CeeJay.
Shirley Marquez: isn't that verging dangerously close to non-PG, Kati?
Jonit Ivory: Steve or Blow? Torley?
Arawn Spitteler: AmenDe Sack?
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/21327
Torley Linden: Haha Kati, I've seen a few other raunchy variations on that.
Ford Roffo: I love all your Videos Torley, thank you so much for all that you do
Torley Linden: Some of the non-PG names that came in and had to be changed, they were funny.
Ford Roffo: first time I've made it here
Squeebee Wakawaka: Ues, Steve Jobs' nickname is Blow.
Torley Linden: Ford, you are SO welcome! I'm so happy you could make it and let me know.
Ford Roffo: :D
Torley Linden: I like that you're so colorful, Ford.
Kati Wunderland: search shows a Small Woody too
icktoofay Kamachi: "Particle Sack"
Ford Roffo: I likes it myself
Lorimae Undercroft: Yup, thank you Torley :)
Torley Linden: I'd like to have a magic sack of particles.
notso Bleac: torley for prez
icktoofay Kamachi: "Dust Sack"
Tenebrous Pau: Santas Sack
Torley Linden: It'd be like, something out of Harry Potter.
Bri Gufler: Torley thanks so much for these office hours. This is my first but it has been so informative and entertaining!
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
icktoofay Kamachi: "Dusty Sack"
Torley Linden: "Sack" IS SUCH A GOOD NAME FOR FUNNAGE.
Torley Linden: This... is official!
Sougent Harrop: You need an ava Vidtut Maker
Ford Roffo: my 1st one and I'll be back
Arawn Spitteler remembers finding a Mike Hunt on the Internet
Torley Linden: Oh you are so welcome Bri! Thanx for comin'!
Tenebrous Pau: my first office hours too... :)
icktoofay Kamachi: Official Sack
Torley Linden: Sougent, hmmm that's a good idea...
Ford Roffo: I need to be wired though on coffee
Shirley Marquez: around here there is a wholesale club store called BJ's Wholesale Club -- always makes me think of something else
Ford Roffo: it's very fast
Torley Linden: Shirley, OMG.
Torley Linden: OMG OMG OMG.
Bri Gufler: I am going to be absorbed for at least the next 6 hours with Camtasia now!
Ford Roffo: OO
Torley Linden: *LOLs for real*
icktoofay Kamachi: "SLBugs Sack"
Ash Meersand: How often are the available sets of names to choose from changed? Are any retired or limited edition?
Torley Linden: Some things don't sound right if they're offered at a discount price!
Torley Linden: Fantastic, Bri!
Rebbecca Riggles: lol
Squeebee Wakawaka: I remember working in a call center and Richard Felashio called in. He literally told me to call him Dick.
Toady Nakamura: i am heree to eat all your BUGS
icktoofay Kamachi: "SLBugs Sack"
Ford Roffo: hehehe
Bri Gufler: Heheh. there are lots of BJ's clubs around where I live too. I can't help but smirk every time I drive past one.
Torley Linden: They have great user help forums too, Bri. And if you have any specific questions about how I do stuff, let me know.
Arawn Spitteler: Guines Sack, might offend some Italians, with its Marijuanna Reference
icktoofay Kamachi: O_O... Torley... Watermelon Sack
Jonit Ivory: si
Torley Linden: I'm happy to share whatever videomaking knowledge I have in hopes other people will be awesome and be happy they're creating cool videos.
Bri Gufler: Thanks Torley. I appreciate the info.
Torley Linden: :-)
Kira Dean smiles at Torley "I've been staying quiet so as not to spam up the chat but I just wanted to drop by and also say Thank You for the vidtuits, I love them and I'm a loyal viewer!"
Ford Roffo: is that a Grendels Toad?
Tenebrous Pau: if anyones interested, there's a youtube vid of SL on a phone... via this Vollee thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwRnjbkljnc
Lorimae Undercroft: Hey toady!
Torley Linden: Squeebee: LOL! That a real last name? :o
Ford Roffo: Toady
Torley Linden: *checks out the link*
Ford Roffo: or your own?
Toady Nakamura: hye
Torley Linden: David Lynch doesn't like movies on an iPhone.
Lorimae Undercroft: Potato sack is good too

Tenebrous Pau: lol lorimae
Ford Roffo: oooh I love the Toad
Jonit Ivory: hmmm, those vidtuts are very good, they always make me smile :)
Bri Gufler: I have created a few videos with Fraps and look forward to doing other stuff with Camtasia.
Chase Marellan: who would want to see their creations at 2 inches high?
Lorimae Undercroft: then you get a bunch of the Sacks family together and have races
Ford Roffo: did you make it?
Ash Meersand: Is it possible to link to places in chat text?
Squeebee Wakawaka: It was indeed, you know how hard it is to not laugh when you are talking to Dick Felashio?
Tenebrous Pau: lol lorimae.... hahaha
CeeJay Tigerpaw: I have to go, CU all later ...
Torley Linden: Squeebee: I only must muse, "Did his parents know!?"
Torley Linden: Have a good one CeeJay!
Aria Dragonash: i have to work with someone in RL who's name is "wichser". usually use it in a bad way for people doing handjobs *lol* i would have changed my name asap but yeah LOL
Chase Marellan: bye Ceejay
CeeJay Tigerpaw: U2
Bri Gufler: If anyone is interested in seeing a video I made of the remembrance day event let me know. I wont spam the chat with the URL.
icktoofay Kamachi: here's how to make a link to another place in chat.... http://slurl.com/secondlife/Grasmere/171/29/37
icktoofay Kamachi: :p
Kati Wunderland: /ao off
Torley Linden: And yeah, Ash, go to the Map and click "Copy SLURL to clipboard"... :)
Jonit Ivory: anyway, I must away, thank you Torley and all for a most entertaing hour
Arawn Spitteler once tried to call a Wai Fok, for a call center, but she didn't answer: Flower Sack, would be good for a hill-billy Pole Dancer. The name of Torley makes me wonder if Baton is a last name.
Ash Meersand: Thanks!
Aria Dragonash: and they even put him on phone support -.-
Chase Marellan: I'm afraid I need to be off too. See you all later.
Torley Linden: I've a video tutorial for that too, "Using SLURLs for easy travel" — http://youtube.com/watch?v=ceIzvl0TYVc :-)
icktoofay Kamachi: or if you have mystitool, say /1slurl
Squeebee Wakawaka: Oh hey Torley, I don't think I've caught you in person to say thanks for shooting my beta site on flicks.
Chase Marellan: Bye, Torley
Chase Marellan: bye all!
icktoofay Kamachi: [13:09] MystiTool HUD 1.0.23: SL URL (slurl) - http://slurl.com/secondlife/Grasmere/170/29/37 [13:09] MystiTool HUD 1.0.23: SL URL (global) - secondlife://Grasmere/170/29/37 [13:09] MystiTool HUD 1.0.23: Image URL - http://secure-web1.secondlife.com/apps/mapapi/grid/map_image/1025-272-1-0.jpg
Torley Linden: Have a good one Chase!
Ivy Lane: kisses chase
Torley Linden: Ahhh how the names roll.
Squeebee Wakawaka: You should see the new lab some time.
Chase Marellan: you too
Jonit Ivory: ciao tutti :)
Chase Marellan: bye Ivy!
Dithean Ringo: listened a lot - learned a lot - must fly *^_^*
Toady Nakamura: bye Torley
Toady Nakamura: thanks for all you do
Torley Linden: And by the way, in 1.19.1 and newer I believe, whenever you teleport, there's a SLURL in chat history so you can revisit previous places.
Torley Linden: You're so welcome, Toady!
Lorimae Undercroft: Bye all!
Torley Linden: Take care Dithean!
Toady Nakamura: Bye Lorimae
Torley Linden: Bye Lorimae!
Dithean Ringo: ty *^_^* bye all
Ford Roffo: Toady rocks
Tenebrous Pau: that back-URL is very handy
Kira Dean: bye Torley!
Torley Linden: Bye to anyone I missed calling out individually! But I should've!
icktoofay Kamachi: Bye watermelon! Oops, I mean Torley!
Ford Roffo: Bye Torley
Ford Roffo: Thanks :))
Torley Linden: I'm not leaving JUST yet...
Squeebee Wakawaka: TTFN Torley
Ford Roffo: YAY
Torley Linden: It sure has been good, tho.
Tenebrous Pau: ugh the suspense, Torley
Toady Nakamura: yaya
Tenebrous Pau: lol
Torley Linden: LOL, false climax.
Zand Gundersen: lol
Torley Linden: "Fake ending! Wait, that's for horror movies!"
Rebbecca Riggles: tnx Torley, nice to see you in the pixels
Bri Gufler: I'm off to play with Camtasia :) Be well everyone and thanks again torley.
Torley Linden: :D
Ash Meersand: Before we depart, would anyone like a copy of my landmarks folder of real life place simulators?
Ford Roffo: all the conversation, cross chat etc and no problems
Squeebee Wakawaka: Aah, now we all clap and Torley comes back out for the encore.
Aria Dragonash: yay i can follow the chat again ^^ way too much input
Torley Linden: Have much fun and learning, Bri.
Ford Roffo: truly amazing
icktoofay Kamachi: :p [13:10] Torley Linden: Bye watermelon! Oops, I mean Torley!
Tenebrous Pau: Ash.... i'd love a copy
bigjr Slade: torley you learn in Hamburg ? do you speak german ?
Aria Dragonash: torley, will there be a fix for the clipping issues with alpha textures soon ?
Ash Meersand: which leads to the question of how I give something to someone without being able to find them
Ford Roffo: I've never seen such a crowded conversation with tons of cross chat and one main speaker that went so smoothly
Torley Linden: bigjr, I don't speak German but I did a presentation on machinima & video tutorials in Campus Hamburg in Second Life.
Aria Dragonash: yeah
Torley Linden: That's so kind of you, Ford!
Ford Roffo: not a hitch nor mean word
Ford Roffo: amazing
Torley Linden: Aria, not that I know of... that's a much harder graphics problem (not specific to Second Life, BTW) to solve.
Squeebee Wakawaka: Ash you search them and drag it to their profile.
Kati Wunderland: let me know if you need a translator :)
Ford Roffo: good quality group here
Aria Dragonash: oh okay
Ford Roffo: and TL you rock
Torley Linden: I really like how international Second Life is getting.
Torley Linden: Thanks!
Ash Meersand: Thanks. I gave them the landmarks successfully
Torley Linden: Some nice folks have already translated http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Video_Tutorials too.
Tenebrous Pau: thanks Ash :)
Squeebee Wakawaka: Oh no, the typing!
Aria Dragonash: yeah the typing is so funny. like gunfire ^^
Torley Linden: Someday I hope for better automated machine translation... but as it stands now, it's often so disappointing.
Sougent Harrop: I can't wait for automatic translation in the chat window without a need for a translator.
Torley Linden: And unintentionally hilarious!
Torley Linden: Yeah totally, Sougent!
Sougent Harrop: great mnds
Jaymes Kjeller: Oh no! The awful clacking sound of the typing animation!
Torley Linden: And oh yeah, you can turn off that clacking sound too.
Tenebrous Pau: Sougent - i used to work for a IRC server company who tried embedding that technology ... lol
Arawn Spitteler sees RC4 is on its way.
Squeebee Wakawaka: And there they were, typing, typing, typing on my parlour door.
icktoofay Kamachi: ahhh! watermelon poofers!
Sougent Harrop: Need to swap the default sound for that of a manul typwriter.
icktoofay Kamachi: :p
Torley Linden: Guess what? I have a video tutorial for THAT too, haha... but long story short, Advanced menu > Debug Settings, enter in "UISndTyping" and set it to blank.
lonetorus Habilis: i belive i have seen in world IRC
lonetorus Habilis: via lsl
Torley Linden: IRC, I grew up with that.
Tenebrous Pau: me too Torley
Torley Linden: I used to hang out a lot on EFnet...
bigjr Slade: oh my rc 3 now runs and runs :-) with ultra grahpics...
Tenebrous Pau: the auto translations were hilarious
Torley Linden: Even before computers I played paper AD&D!
Squeebee Wakawaka: IRC? Bah! I grew up with two people dialing in on a BBS and being able to chat.
lonetorus Habilis: i would love to have ssh inworld as a media prims,
Torley Linden: How far we've come.
Torley Linden: Haha Squeebee, I had some local BBSes but there weren't a lot.
Sougent Harrop: I ran a BBS, so there...
Torley Linden: In my area.
Torley Linden: Oooh nice.
Tenebrous Pau: would you believe my first attempt at SL was with a 56k modem? :)
Sougent Harrop: :)
Torley Linden: I remember the fancy color ANSI graphics.
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: old school FTW
Torley Linden: Haha really Tenebrous? Brave soul!
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: THEDRAW
Squeebee Wakawaka: I can't believe it wasn't your last attempt.
Arawn Spitteler did compuserve at 50Baud
Torley Linden: I know Shebang Sunshine actually used to come to SL regularly on dialup. She doesn't anymore.
Torley Linden: But, my gosh.
Tenebrous Pau: back with Shebang Sunshine, when we defected from the
lonetorus Habilis: anyone use fidonet?
Tenebrous Pau: whoa
Max Demar: *think my modem was slower than 56k * ..
Tenebrous Pau: spooky
Ash Meersand: I counted about 18 simulators for real life places that were English language oriented, large, and not filled with spam. Surely there are more than that out there
Aria Dragonash: i used paket radio with relay stations ... took minutes for the relpy to arrive ^^
Torley Linden: Hahahahah Tenebrous!
Tenebrous Pau: lol
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: Fidonet still exists
Coughran Mayo: ah the sounds of silence! thanks for that tip
bigjr Slade: 20 year ago i start with 300 baud *g and a akkustikoppler
bigjr Slade: ala wargames
Torley Linden: Wow so you were there back then Tenebrous?
Squeebee Wakawaka: Aah Fidonet.
Tenebrous Pau: Shebang and I were doing the tech support for the IRC company, til we defected here
HUGSaLOT Valkyrie: ECHOS!
Torley Linden: That is so awesome, I never knew that before!
Tenebrous Pau: :D
Sougent Harrop: I think I logged in to SL on dialup once
Squeebee Wakawaka: Why silence? Just find a better typing sound. Maybe a teletype.
Torley Linden: What a great connection, Tenebrous.
lonetorus Habilis: yes, but quite limited compared to what it used to be, i also belive they exchange a lot of the fideonet mail via the internet to save on dial up cost
Tenebrous Pau: yeah Torley :)
Tenebrous Pau: i followed her over hehe
Tenebrous Pau: she's AWOL now though :(
Kati Wunderland: /ao on
Coughran Mayo: morse code key?
Squeebee Wakawaka found SL when he saw an article that LL uses MySQL.
Torley Linden: I have a lot of admiration for people who, even with unsupported hardware, come into Second Life and persist... it means they really want to be a part of this.
Squeebee Wakawaka: Ooh yes.
Torley Linden: *nods*
Tenebrous Pau: absolutely
Sougent Harrop: Fidonet wasn't that bad cost wise to do the mail.
Torley Linden: OK... it's been SO much fun and thanks to each and all of you for being here with me today. I need to go, finish more work!
Ash Meersand: Antarctica would be too easy to simulate. Just set the terrain to flat and icy, muck around with the day/night cycle, and leave.
Torley Linden: I wish you all well and an excellent weekend. :-D
Tenebrous Pau: see you Torley :)
Squeebee Wakawaka waves.
