The Unknown Fate of Ruth

It all started by someone suggesting poltergeist as being the reason for Ruthing (they didn't say it in so many words but that was my take on it). For that to work someone would have to be trapped in SL somehow. I started out thinking something along the lines of Tron but that is too complicated for a scary story. I knew then that someone had to die, and her name was Ruth. A slasher came to mind, and I started writing. It needed an obligatory Halloween reference, with rain and lightning. But I couldn't decide what to do with the body. Leaving her dead with a case of bloody qwertyitist had potential, but then so did dragging her corpse off to the server room leaving a bloody streak along the floor. But I really wanted the corpse not to be found and if you leave a bloody streak that kinda spoils the mystery, anyway I couldn't think of any places to stash the body (you need to tell people at the end). I couldn't figure how to get enough living action between her and the cube headed man. You would go from introduction to confrontation to death, there isn't much to work with. The thunderstorm was going to be a way to introduce him as cube headed (like one of those noobs trying to unpack something), the flash of lightning silhouetting him against the wall (in retrospect having a constant light source like an outdoor street lamp shining in through the window might have provided enough live action). With that flash of inspiration I changed the cause of death and my problems went away.

By pure happenstance it does rain in SF in October though I don't know about thunderstorms. -- Strife Onizuka 12:46, 15 December 2007 (PST)
