Translations

Heyas! =)
I'm not sure if the creation of articles which are lacking a translation are benefitting the usability of the Wiki. So I'm aware that some article related to the Volunteer Portal (currently lost the link...) asks scribes to create untranslated subpages in order to support linguists who aren't familiar with Wiki editing, but I don't think that this is the right way. For a reader, it looks like there would be translations available while those are missing. It might cause more confusion than enlightenment. Furthermore, it takes these pages off the needs translation list, since this list can only test if pages are available, not if those contain text in a specific language. Moreover it causes a need to keep all those clones up to date with the original page. 'Could fix that by writing {{:name of the parent page}} as only content of the article, but this workaround wouldn't benefit the linguists much either. And it clutters the multi-lang linkbar.
So, this is only my personal opinion since there is no guideline on this (yet)... But I think untranslated article-clones which are no work in progress should be avoided. I'm not sure how others think about it tho... Maybe it has another benefit which I'm not able to see yet?
Oh and: Name/en articles should be avoided according to Project:Languages since there is no use for them. I think they can't be interpreted by Template:Multi-lang anyway, since it always sets the parent page as english page.

Es ist viel einfacher die bestehenden Seiten zu bearbeiten als neue zu erstellen. Viele Menschen wissen gar nicht dass ihre Sprache unterstützt wird. Wirklich.

Und außerdem die ganzen Wiki-METATAGs, auch schwer zu verstehen. deshalb baue ich jetzt nur Grundgerüst, andere werden es übersetzen.

I agree with Zai on this. It was a mistake to make all those pages without translating them into the target language. They clutter the multi-lang box and it doesn't help anyone. Unfortunately there isn't a way to de-list/re-list the pages now, not without deleting the articles. I'm going to ask Sue to delete them :-/ -- Strife ^{(talk|contribs)} 18:00, 21 October 2008 (PDT)
