Welcome Island teaches new Residents basic Second Life skills in about ten minutes, while Discovery Island helps Residents learn about starter experiences in Second Life.

These are part of the Second Life Viewer 2 experience, and are replacing the old Help Island (and before that, Orientation Island).

Welcome Island and Discovery Island each have multiple copies to accommodate the many Residents entering SL for their first time. To get to one if you want to meet new Residents and help them:

  1. Choose World > World Map.
  2. In the region field next to the Find button, type Welcome Island or SL DiscoveryIsland Public, then click Find. You'll see multiple listings with numbers after their names. For example:
