Buying Linden Dollars (L$)

The Linden dollar is the unit of trade used in the Second Life® virtual world. In this video you will learn how to purchase Linden dollars:

  • From the Second Life viewer
  • From the Second Life website
Note: In order to purchase Linden dollars, you must have payment info on file. Log into your account on our website to update your information.

The Second Life world contains a plethora of shops where you can purchase anything you need to customize your avatar! There are also many free items available for L$0 (zero Linden dollars) created and donated by fellow Residents.

Using Camera Controls

Watch this video tutorial to learn about:

Tip: Hold the Alt key and move your scroll wheel to zoom. You can also use the Alt key and move your mouse or use Alt + up and down arrow keys.

Learning to use camera controls can make shopping easier! Once you have customized your avatar, you can use these tools to take a snapshot of your spiffy self for your 2nd Life Profile tab!

Learn how to return to your prior location in just one click.

Whether using a Landmark, Search result, a SLurl™ link, Map or Location History links to teleport, you can get where you want to go quickly. Items listed in Search results also provide coordinates to specific merchandise. Teleport directly to merchandise vendors.

Shopping

Knowing how to shop is very helpful when customizing your avatar. Whether looking for free items or purchases, you'll need to know how to find, purchase, and use merchandise.

Open a Box

Some purchases in Second Life arrive in your inventory boxed. Learn how to:

Some merchants sell their items boxed. Learning how to open boxed items and copy them to inventory gives you the ability to use the purchased items.

Editing your Appearance

Your default avatar is completely customizable. This tutorial will show how to:

The appearance of your avatar can be as creative as your imagination.

You Can't Remove Body Parts

There are four body parts which you can replace but cannot take off. They are:

  • Eyes
  • Default Hair
  • Skin
  • Shape
Tip: When wearing prim hair, wear the bald base that comes with it to keep your default hair from showing through.

Filling in your Profile

Once you have customized your avatar, customize your Profile too! This tutorial will review each of the tabs in your Profile. Learn to customize:

  • Interests tab
  • Profile Picks tab
  • 1st Life tab
