[12:01] Simon Linden: Let's get started ... this week server release notes are on the usual forum: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Server/Deploys-for-the-week-of-2014-07-07/m-p/2769988#M15011

[12:01] Simon Linden: The LSL functions for materials were put on the main channel today, so tomorrow those will be grid-wide and generally usable

[12:02] Nalates Urriah: Yay!

[12:02] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): wonderful news, I can go now

[12:02] Mona Eberhardt: Woot!

[12:02] Motor Loon: lol

[12:02] Simon Linden: Tomorrow there will be another new maintenance server release, which to be honest doesn't have much in it

[12:02] Shug Maitland (shug.maitland): better hang around for the -but- Cube

[12:03] Simon Linden: Also the experience tools channel gets updated

[12:03] Simon Linden: We'll have a surprise guest in a few minutes about that

[12:03] Talarus Luan: Surprise Linden? :P

[12:04] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): I'm really excited about those

[12:04] Oz Linden: right on cue...

[12:04] Simon Linden: Welcome Dolphin ...who's hear to discuss experience tools

[12:04] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): I was curious if the "improves L$ transaction logging for payments made by scripted objects." on BS & LT was to fix https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-6229 ?

[12:04] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): when do the succesful beta applications get notified

[12:04] Shug Maitland (shug.maitland): HEY Dolphin

[12:04] Yuzuru Jewell: Hello, Dophin!

[12:04] MB Robonaught: hiya °?°

[12:04] Dolphin Linden: hello

[12:04] Nalates Urriah: Me...

[12:04] Kriss (krisshall): hi

[12:04] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): hi dolphin

[12:04] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): Heya Dolphin

[12:05] Mona Eberhardt: Hi Dolphin.

[12:06] Talarus Luan: Heyas Drongle

[12:06] Drongle McMahon: Hello Talarus. Long time no see!!!

[12:06] Talarus Luan: Aye

[12:06] Hexapoda: Hello mammal fish Linden

[12:06] Yuzuru Jewell: Hello, Drongle.

[12:06] Simon Linden: So we don't have a big presentation, but Dolphin can answer questions about the new experience features

[12:06] Mona Eberhardt: BTW Oz... Thanks for STORM-2020. :)

[12:06] Favorites Drink Tray: If you like Pina Coladas, Drongle McMahon, getting caught in the rain......

[12:06] JIRA-helper: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/STORM-2020

[12:07] Shug Maitland (shug.maitland): I see Dolphin is working on that random crash problem :P

[12:07] Talarus Luan: How can we get access to them?

[12:07] Pina Colada : Mmmm, the taste of the tropics, with pineapple and coconut, Drongle McMahon!

[12:07] Seewo (siwo): Hey everypony

[12:07] Talarus Luan: and where is the latest documentation for them?

[12:08] Dolphin Linden: We are working on a beta program

[12:08] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Tools-and-Technology/Seeking-Creators-for-the-Experience-Keys-Beta/ba-p/2764864

[12:08] Dolphin Linden: once that is done we will announce how people will be getting access to make their own experiences

[12:08] Oz Linden: The documentation will be posted shortly

[12:08] Pina Colada : Mmm..

[12:09] Oz Linden: there are always last-second review passes on public docs...

[12:09] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): how does this differ from the last iteration ?

[12:09] Pina Colada : Mmm..

[12:09] Pina Colada : Mmm..

[12:09] Dolphin Linden: We are working out the details, but we want them to be reasonably available, but not so easy acquire that people will make throw away ones to try to grief people

[12:09] Pina Colada : Mmm..

[12:09] Talarus Luan: Aren't they limited to sim owners?

[12:09] Dolphin Linden: well, the big difference is residents will be able to use them in their own experiences

[12:10] Pina Colada : That was deliciously refreshing, Drongle McMahon!

[12:10] Talarus Luan: Ahh.

[12:10] Dolphin Linden: we are still working on the rules about who can have them

[12:10] Hexapoda: You should cantact Loki Eliot for beta testing.

[12:10] Mona Eberhardt: Or Kiana Writer and her team.

[12:10] Jenna Felton: can you use an experience key created by someone else and work woith someone else's experience, or everyone has to apply their own experience and get the experience key to particiapate to the XT beta?

[12:11] Dolphin Linden: an experience can be associated with a group

[12:11] Seewo (siwo): question: still no experience stuff for mainland?

[12:11] Jenna Felton: because i myself have no idea how to make an experience very fast in reasonable time, so i can applicate to it....

[12:11] Jenna Felton: ok

[12:11] Dolphin Linden: there is a new group power 'contribute to experiences' which will allow associating scripts with the experience

[12:12] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): so basically I can include a set of experiences in a product then the end user can have that experience what ever it may be?

[12:12] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): by giving permission once?

[12:13] Dolphin Linden: Seewo: experiences may be allowed by a parcel owner if not blocked by the estate owner

[12:13] Oz Linden: I believe each script may only be associated with a single experience, is that right Dolphin?

[12:13] Dolphin Linden: yes oz

[12:13] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): Are you interested in exp tools beta tester applications from people who don't have an experience set up as requested on http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Tools-and-Technology/Seeking-Creators-for-the-Experience-Keys-Beta/ba-p/2764864 but want to beta test to help find bugs? :D

[12:13] Dolphin Linden: however, different scripts on the same object may have different experiences

[12:13] Seewo (siwo): oohh... okay :)

[12:13] Dolphin Linden: though that might be hard to manage properly

[12:14] Oz Linden: Right now we're looking for experience creators, Whirly

[12:14] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): Oki doki

[12:14] Nalates Urriah: Form the Torley video it looks like in scripting we only need to change the premissions request to an Experience permissions request. That would make it easy to adapt existing scripts to Experiences is that close to right?

[12:14] Oz Linden: Experience experiencers will come just a little later :-)

[12:14] Mona Eberhardt writes a note to self to tell Harvey and Becky (of the Basilique Performing Arts Company) to get in touch with you Lindens.

[12:14] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): like jimmy hendrix

[12:15] Vivienne Daguerre: I have not applied, because I do not have a set plan or time line in place, but would like to work on something and develop the idea further as I go. Would you consider something not so clearly defined?

[12:15] Dolphin Linden: I would say that you don't have to have something you want to convert necessarily, but you should be able to demostrate that you have the experience with building/scripting to make use of the tools

[12:15] Talarus Luan: Well, I am not sure what kind of experience I can create, because I don't have enough info on what the experience tools provide, so it is a catch-22.

[12:15] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): cool, I've got a tonne of ideas

[12:15] Dolphin Linden: Nal, it obviously depends on the scripts, but that would be the first step

[12:16] Dolphin Linden: permissions notifications go through two new events: experience_permissions and experience_permissions_denied

[12:16] Dolphin Linden: those will need to be handled instead of the normal permission event

[12:17] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): am i right in thinking that you could control a string of events sim wide from just one permission ?

[12:17] Dolphin Linden: Vivienne, the more concrete the better

[12:18] Simon Linden: Cube- you avoid having to repeatedly ask for permissions as someone moves around in the region interacting with different items

[12:18] Dolphin Linden: Talarus: I would describe XP Tools as providing 2 things

[12:18] Vivienne Daguerre: Nods, I will give information about what we have already done and have in place and ideas about what we want to do.

[12:18] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): thats amazing, cfould really have some fun with that

[12:18] Dolphin Linden: a persistent permission model that has been talked about a bit

[12:19] Dolphin Linden: and a simple key:value database for storing game state

[12:19] Talarus Luan: Cool.

[12:19] Dolphin Linden: for permissions, there is not a lot different from WHAT you can do today

[12:19] Shug Maitland (shug.maitland): do I understand correctly that once permission is given it could be valid across multiple regions?

[12:19] Dolphin Linden: the main difference is removing popups

[12:19] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): less clicks more hits lol

[12:20] Talarus Luan: I have lots of ideas for my sim which could benefit from that, depending on the details, of course. Some of which I have held off on because there's just no good way to do some of them in SL.

[12:20] MB Robonaught: permission popups were irritating

[12:20] Dolphin Linden: shug: the permission is persistent and grid-wide

[12:20] Vivienne Daguerre: We were working on a quest system that we dropped, because of scripting limitations and clunkiness

[12:21] Dolphin Linden: however, experiences must be able to run in the location where the av is

[12:21] Dolphin Linden: an experience may not be allowed in a particular estate or parcel

[12:21] Dolphin Linden: and an adult experience may not run on a general region, for example

[12:21] Drongle McMahon: Can you revoke them?

[12:22] Dolphin Linden: permission can be revoked at any time

[12:22] Nalates Urriah: So, estate managers can enable and disable XP like they do Pathfinding?

[12:22] Drongle McMahon: And can they take your L$?

[12:22] Hexapoda: Torley has a good video to show that.

[12:22] Dolphin Linden: in that case, the experience_permission_denied event will be sent to scripts in the region

[12:22] Theresa Tennyson: Could existing objects built on current permission system be used as part of an experience and still not need separate granting of permissions?

[12:23] Dolphin Linden: there is the idea of a "Trusted Experience" which can be set at the estate level

[12:23] Dolphin Linden: a trusted experience will allow people in the experience access to a non public estate

[12:23] Dolphin Linden: if they block the experience while on the estate, then they will be teleported home

[12:24] Talarus Luan: Yeah, that's necessary for some kinds of games.

[12:24] Dolphin Linden: this allows estate owners some extra tools to force people to be in an experience if they want to be in the estate

[12:24] Talarus Luan: Oh, you took off your combat meter HUD.. buh-bye!

[12:25] Kallista Destiny: Exactly

[12:25] Dolphin Linden: normal allow lists still apply, so you can add individuals or groups access as normal

[12:25] Shug Maitland (shug.maitland): or your collar Talarus °?°

[12:25] Talarus Luan: I don't collar well <.<

[12:25] Jenna Felton: can you see the experience keys in plain text when you enter a parcell where the experience is available? I understood it is possible, than i have concern that a griefer can create an object that uses that permission key and griefs everyone who accepted the permission, and the experience creator is than in charge for that

[12:26] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): Can a "trusted experience" be set at parcel level so that those accepting the experience can get into a parcel not allowing public aqccess?

[12:26] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): Or is this estate only?

[12:26] Dolphin Linden: Drongle: the permissions granted are PERMISSION_TAKE_CONTROLS, PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION, PERMISSION_ATTACH, PERMISSION_TRACK_CAMERA, PERMISSION_CONTROL_CAMERA and PERMISSION_TELEPORT

[12:26] Dolphin Linden: other permissions, notably debit, will still have to be handled the old way

[12:26] Talarus Luan: PERMISSION_TELEPORT 4tw finally.

[12:27] Dolphin Linden: the list of experiences allowed on an estate is public information

[12:27] Dolphin Linden: the list of experiences a resident has allowed or blocked is private information

[12:27] Jenna Felton: and that are the keys you request by script or the keys are not displayed in public?

[12:28] Oz Linden: Jenna ... only the owner of an experience (or member of the group if the owner has allowed that) can associate an experience key with a script

[12:28] Dolphin Linden: jenna: there are no real "keys" anymore

[12:28] Jenna Felton: ok, than no concern then

[12:28] Jenna Felton: :)

[12:29] Dolphin Linden: assigning an xp to a script must be done by the xp owner or by a member of the xp's group with the appropriate group power

[12:29] Oz Linden: That's probably the biggest difference between the first iteration and this one

[12:29] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): thats cool

[12:29] Motor Loon: Are there plans of building a list of "interesting places to visit to experience the experice tools" ?

[12:29] Theresa Tennyson: Is this similar to pathfinding where you can set experience attributes for a pre-existing object?

[12:29] Dolphin Linden: there is no concern about your script getting leaked then people taking over your experience

[12:30] Dolphin Linden: you still have to be careful who you give access to

[12:30] Dolphin Linden: another thing I should mention, is that LL or the xp owner can disable an experience

[12:31] Dolphin Linden: if the owner wants to turn it off temporarily (maybe to fix a bug or something) they can

[12:31] Kallista Destiny: can 'experence' be assigned to a script w/o modify permissons on the script?

[12:31] Dolphin Linden: and LL can disable an experience temporarily or permanently in response to abusive behavior

[12:32] Dolphin Linden: Motor: yes, we plan to add somethign to the destination guide eventually

[12:32] Motor Loon: Excellent

[12:32] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): what might be classified as abusive behaviour

[12:32] Motor Loon: Where does it tell the procedure to control the stuff for estate level?

[12:32] Talarus Luan: The "Flying Male Organ Experience"

[12:32] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): will we need disclaimers if our xp contains graphic content

[12:33] Dolphin Linden: Theresa: an xp is set on a script via the script editor, there is a combobox at the bottom which allows you to select any xp you have permissions for

[12:33] Dolphin Linden: you cannot change the xp on a script without modify permission

[12:33] Vivienne Daguerre: will we be able to rate an experience as pg, mature or adult?

[12:34] Shug Maitland (shug.maitland): OMG, I remember the self generating green peni w/ Santa hats "experience" Talarus --- must be getting old

[12:34] Lucia Nightfire: you have to resave the script too afaik, its like changing the compile type

[12:34] Jenna Felton: that means the association of an experience to a script is not the llRequestExperiencePermission() call, that is good

[12:34] Talarus Luan: One of many.. >.>

[12:34] Oz Linden: right, Jenna

[12:34] Dolphin Linden: Cube: you can set a content rating on an experience

[12:35] Dolphin Linden: that will prevent anyone from letting it run in a lower rated region

[12:35] Talarus Luan: So it is something that is saved in the compiled script code, but not in the source code.

[12:35] Hexapoda: Adult should be XXX to not give false info about adulthood to the youth :).

[12:35] Talarus Luan: More like a "script property", a la "prim property"

[12:36] Dolphin Linden: Also, there is a public profile for each experience which contains: Name, Description, Content rating, SLURL, marketplace url, image, and owner/group

[12:36] Dolphin Linden: those fields should all be rated G

[12:36] Talarus Luan: or metadata in the script inventory entry, I guess would work too

[12:36] Kallista Destiny: Is there going to be Group modify permissons on scripts then, otherwise the script will be copyable by almost everyone. With Scripts Modify == Copy permission via copy paste.

[12:37] Dolphin Linden: yes lucy, the experience is set at compile time, similar to the compile type and you need to re-save if you want to change the experience

[12:37] Jenna Felton: when you give out a script only, does it retain the asociated experience?

[12:37] Lucia Nightfire: I forgot to check if exp bound scripts were able to be dissected from an object and installed in another.

[12:37] Jenna Felton: or you need to give the script running in a prim

[12:38] Lucia Nightfire: not sure if taht falls into the contrib ability

[12:38] Dolphin Linden: an xp is part of a compiled script

[12:39] Jenna Felton: that means it is ni bytecode but not in data part of the script and remains set when you give the script without an object around it

[12:39] Talarus Luan: Are scripts in avatar inventory compiled now?

[12:39] Dolphin Linden: if the script is editable, but the person editing it does not have permissions for the experience they will not be able to save the script unless they remove the experience or change it to one they have permission for

[12:39] Jenna Felton: thats also cool

[12:39] Hexapoda: Would it be possible to attach demo clothes on users with XP so you do not need to get boxes and unpack and so on?

[12:40] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): Heh that would be cool

[12:40] Oz Linden: yes, Hexapoda

[12:40] Dolphin Linden: Talarus: they should be, assuming they are valid scripts (they will not be if there are syntax errors, etc)

[12:40] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): this seems a real game changer

[12:40] Talarus Luan: Nice

[12:40] Lucia Nightfire: so can I take an exp set script from an object and put it in another object it was not intended for?

[12:41] Oz Linden: I expect that this will trigger quite a wave of new vendor script development

[12:41] Dolphin Linden: Hex: you can attach stuff with llTempAttach

[12:41] Jenna Felton: for demo clothes we need another runtime permission PERMISSION_WEAR_CLOTHING or something, to make sure the attached clothing gives the alpha layer that is worn automatically

[12:41] Dolphin Linden: if the person later blocks the xp, or goes to a place where the xp is blocked, then all temp attachments will fall off

[12:41] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): you could control peoples cameras and send them to see demos of stuff elsewhere just from a vendor

[12:41] Dolphin Linden: well, die

[12:41] Talarus Luan: Yeah, I suppose that is where some of these questions are coming from. What happens if I create a script with XP settings that I am allowed, and just give it to someone else from my inventory via share and they just drop it directly into a prim. Does it retain the XP settings I set, even if they don't have the rights to set them?

[12:41] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): do the temp attachments go to inventory?

[12:42] Loki Eliot: no

[12:42] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): No

[12:42] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): cool

[12:42] Jenna Felton: temp attachments remain inworld but not in inventory :) crazy things are they

[12:42] Dolphin Linden: Talarus: i believe you would have to have copy permissions on the script to do that

[12:43] Lucia Nightfire: so its possible

[12:43] Talarus Luan: Oh, does that include altering their skin/shape, too? I would LOVE to be able to do that myself to myself via script.

[12:43] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): write some kinda of code into the script that stops it working if added to another object

[12:43] Lucia Nightfire: because people dissect copy only stuff all teh time

[12:43] Oz Linden: Not only can you attach demos, I suspect that you could use the database to create an in-store shopping cart... keep track of what a customer has been trying...

[12:43] Lucia Nightfire: I've had to install provisions to prevent people from using my copy only products other than intended

[12:43] MB Robonaught: wow

[12:44] Kallista Destiny: Users are very clever at twisting permissions and usages.

[12:44] Loki Eliot: database?

[12:45] Oz Linden: that's what beta testing is for, Kallista :-)

[12:45] Talarus Luan: Well, if I wrote the script, I obviously have copy perms, but does it matter if the person I give the script to has copy perms? They can still put it in a prim with XP settings that they can't set themselves, correct?

[12:45] Dolphin Linden: let me talk about the db real quick

[12:45] Lucia Nightfire: lol

[12:45] Lucia Nightfire: soemthing tells me that its allowed, Talarus

[12:45] Dolphin Linden: it is fairly simple, but should make storing state much more simple and fast

[12:45] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): Hmmso when you TP into an experience enabled shopping place, it could force attach a HUD on you, where you can add items to your "Cart" and each time you go back to that place, your HUD attached would be able to remember hat you had in your cart right?

[12:45] Talarus Luan: Probably. Just good to know from a "security" standpoint.

[12:45] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): *what

[12:46] Lucia Nightfire: so I'm gonna have to maintain said provisions

[12:46] Dolphin Linden: basically, it is just a string to string mapping

[12:46] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): yay discount HUD lol

[12:46] Dolphin Linden: so you could use, e.g. the residents id as a key and information about them as the value

[12:46] Loki Eliot: so this database thing is a new thingas part of the new experience tools?

[12:47] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): This is what Linden realms uses to remember your scores on the HUD?

[12:47] Dolphin Linden: it supports create, read, update, delete, count and iterate

[12:47] Talarus Luan: I presume you have something like "tables", or is it just one key/value table per avatar?

[12:47] Oz Linden: one per experience, Talarus

[12:47] Dolphin Linden: and the update can be made to be atomic so that it is safe to modify from multiple scripts

[12:48] Loki Eliot: does each experience key have its own database? this is a lil place to store data for the experience like scores, items, etc?

[12:48] Loki Eliot: OMG THIS IS MEGA AWESOME

[12:48] Dolphin Linden: each experience has their own db, which can be accessed anywhere the experience can run

[12:48] Talarus Luan: Yeah, I don't know what an "experience" is in that technical context, really. Need the docs. :)

[12:48] Dolphin Linden: it is what LR uses

[12:48] Loki Eliot: you just did away with two months work pffft XD

[12:49] Hexapoda: LR = Linden Realms

[12:49] Nalates Urriah: Is LR going to be updated or closed?

[12:49] Talarus Luan: Can I make product A which has a KVDB, and product B with a separate KVDB, etc etc?

[12:49] Kriss (krisshall): catching up, although they added dictionaries for state :S

[12:49] Dolphin Linden: we really hope it makes things much easier to keep track of any information you need about people taking part

[12:49] Lucia Nightfire: Dolphin do you have a email address I can contact you at as I don't think I'm gonna get to the two critical questions I had for you during the alloted time here.

[12:50] Dolphin Linden: i find it works really well with the json objects for the value :)

[12:51] Dolphin Linden: Nal: there are plans to update Linden Realms, but I am not sure of the timeframe

[12:51] Dolphin Linden: Talarus: the databases are completely separate, if you want to reference data in another one, you will have to do that with two different scripts and message passing

[12:51] Talarus Luan: Okies.

[12:52] Talarus Luan: Just that I can have more than one is all. :)

[12:52] MB Robonaught: can the db be used for anything besides XP?

[12:52] Talarus Luan: Otherwise, keys will have a "product" field.

[12:52] Oz Linden: No, MB

[12:53] Dolphin Linden: the db will be limited in size, we are still determining an appropriate limit

[12:53] Jenna Felton: is the database restricted in size?

[12:53] Dolphin Linden: :)

[12:53] Jenna Felton: ok

[12:54] Mona Eberhardt: Contrary to what some people would have you believe, databases do take storage space. ;)

[12:54] Kriss (krisshall): one reason to not have them

[12:54] Dolphin Linden: we will likely provide options for people to raise that limit for L$ in case your experience needs more

[12:54] Oz Linden: the script can read the size... so once the limit is known, you can build management of that into it

[12:54] Hexapoda: Popular and trusted XPs would they be able to gett larger DBs?

[12:54] Oz Linden: TBD, Hexapoda

[12:54] Talarus Luan: A quick question on a different topic before we go: any timeframe for this to get implemented? https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SCR-163

[12:55] Loki Eliot: yeh cos what if your experience becomes very popular and you get hundreds of users, each having saved data stored

[12:55] Talarus Luan: PRIM_PROJECTOR

[12:55] Dolphin Linden: size policy is in the works, but it is configurable

[12:55] Loki Eliot: yud have to be very efficiant with the data managmnet of the experience

[12:56] Jenna Felton: ok i have an idea of an experience. Such a database can be good used to allow persistent HTTPD URLs

[12:56] Simon Linden: Talarus- you want to set and get that flag?

[12:56] Talarus Luan: Set the texture, FOV, Ambiance

[12:56] MB Robonaught: that would be awesome Jenna

[12:56] Talarus Luan: and Focus

[12:56] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): Brazil!

[12:56] Simon Linden: Good point, Cube :)

[12:57] Oz Linden: Re: SCR-163 ... no time frame

[12:57] CubeRepublic (cube.republic): aye just kicking off, rio is going crazy

[12:57] Talarus Luan: It's in the editor, but it's not settable in LSL

[12:58] Talarus Luan: I'm glad we got the materials stuff. Just need the rest. :)

[12:58] Jenna Felton: i also hope for the scripted projectors, but first i need info about usage of XP :)

[12:59] Jenna Felton: (the documentation)

[12:59] Dolphin Linden: we are working on a bundle of docs and release a project viewer

[12:59] Talarus Luan: I presume when the XP docs get posted (hopefully in the wiki), there will be some kind of announcement somewhere?

[13:00] Dolphin Linden: they should be release together, soonish

[13:00] Chucking Fatlag (whirly.fizzle): How soon is soonish? :D

[13:00] Shug Maitland (shug.maitland): lol

[13:00] Dolphin Linden: after now, before forever

[13:00] Talarus Luan: Is there a smei/official group where XP is discussed?

[13:00] Theresa Tennyson: I think the sekrit project viewer is already in a few people's hands.

[13:00] Jenna Felton: i somehow feel like pregnant :)

[13:01] Talarus Luan: *semi
