[13:58] You: Wuh-oh. Where's my chair?
[13:58] Jon Linden accepted your inventory offer.
[13:59] You: Ah, there it rezzes.
[13:59] Simon Kline: hehehe
[13:59] Simon Kline: it must be comfortable if you choose that over a couch
[13:59] Simon Kline: heh
[13:59] You: Well, I can't argue with getting to recline and stretch for a whole hour.
[13:59] Becky Pippen: Hi Jeremy. Hi Jon.
[13:59] WidgetHUD v1.1: Becky Pippen has pinged you.
[13:59] Simon Kline: hahah so true :D
[13:59] You: Hi Becky.
[14:00] Jon Linden: hello everyone!
[14:00] Simon Kline: hi jon, jeremy :D
[14:00] WidgetHUD v1.1: Simon Kline has pinged you.
[14:00] You: Nice monacle!
[14:00] Kate Linden: Howdy
[14:00] Simon Kline: i was just saying it's hard turning up early cuz there's more decisions... which couch to sit on
[14:00] Jon Linden: i got it at a discount!
[14:00] You: Heya Kate.
[14:00] Becky Pippen: Hi Kate
[14:00] Simon Kline: hi kate
[14:00] Jon Linden: the gang's all here!
[14:01] You: Heh. We should rotate the couches regularly, just to mess everyone up :-P
[14:01] Simon Kline: hahah musical couches... sit down when the sound stream lags
[14:01] You: Doh.
[14:02] Jon Linden: i bet it would turn out to skip at a different moment for everyone and it would devolve into chaos
[14:02] Simon Kline: hha never thought of that.. but how fun if that happend lol
[14:02] You: Just like most things that are supposed to be synchronized in SL :-P
[14:02] Simon Kline: hehh
[14:03] You: My favorite is when you see two people dancing, but on your side they started at different times so they're off by themselves dancing with invisible partners.
[14:03] Jon Linden: heh; whoops
[14:03] Kate Linden: Great article this week Jon
[14:04] Simon Kline: heheh indeed :D
[14:04] Jon Linden: jeremy did the merging!
[14:04] WidgetHUD v1.1: Jon Linden has pinged you.
[14:04] Kate Linden: +1 jeremy
[14:04] WidgetHUD v1.1: Kate Linden has pinged you.
[14:04] You: Heh.
[14:04] Jeremy Linden blushes.
[14:04] Jon Linden: i was also pleased to see some useful comments on the blog, before the DB difficulty this morning
[14:04] You: Yeah, that was pleasantly and uncommonly civil.
[14:05] Kate Linden: Yes there was a lot of good feedback in the KB Article comments this week.
[14:05] You: I even convinced Phoenix to post a correction to some misconceptions. I wasn't sure about how the backend worked, myself.
[14:05] Jon Linden: Becky, Simon, what leaps to your minds when someone mentions the SL blog?
[14:06] Becky Pippen: just a sec
[14:06] Jon Linden: no sweat, i'm not lookin' for a novel
[14:06] Simon Kline: i like it, it's a great way to keep ppl informed... some ppl abuse the comments but i gues that's commonplace across the web
[14:06] Jon Linden: truth
[14:07] Simon Kline: i think by you guys using it as a way to hilight articles is a clever idea
[14:07] Becky Pippen: what I always think is what a great resource it is for learning what is going on.... then I meet residents who never bother to look at it and they wonder why they feel left out.
[14:07] Simon Kline: especially about inventory management when i looked at mine growing out of conrol hah
[14:07] Jon Linden: simon, thanks! someone else in Support had that idea and we just ran with it
[14:08] You: Heh. True enough, Becky. Though we're not allowed to beam information directly into peoples' heads yet.
[14:08] Becky Pippen: bummer
[14:08] Simon Kline: heh
[14:09] Simon Kline: a button ppl could push when they feel like learning more would be cool..
[14:09] Jon Linden: twitter was starting to look like a good idea for communicating grid difficulties until twitter themselves started to have reliability problems
[14:09] Jon Linden: simon, a button where?
[14:09] Kate Linden: It's worked ~90% for me so far.
[14:09] Simon Kline: i've actually made a device used by a couple lindens for grid issues..
[14:09] Simon Kline: u guys want a look?
[14:09] You: Sure.
[14:09] Kate Linden: would love to see it simon
[14:10] Simon Kline gave you Grid Watch v0.91 (wear me).
[14:10] Jon Linden: hello Song! welcome to Documentation Office Hours
[14:10] Song Kangjon: hi JOn
[14:10] Simon Kline: so as status.secondlifegrid.com gets updated
[14:10] Simon Kline: a message appers in the top corner
[14:11] You: Oh, that's cool! It uses llHTTPRequest?
[14:11] Simon Kline: also if it's changed since you was last logged on or laste used it
[14:11] Simon Kline: yep :D
[14:11] Song Kangjon: I'm not sure where to go with my question, so I found a place where Lindens are having office hours
[14:11] Kate Linden: That is really useful Simon
[14:11] Jon Linden: if it's a question about Second Life documentation, you're in the right spot
[14:11] Song Kangjon: no, it's really a policy question
[14:11] Becky Pippen: Thanks, Simon
[14:11] Simon Kline: the comment i've had about it is that previously alot of alearts have been text based and so easily missed.. where this one stays there till you acknowledge it
[14:11] You: Heh. And if it's a question that can be answered with information, rather than action, we're good too :-)
[14:12] Song Kangjon: I'm going to be offline for about 6 weeks, and don't want my account deleted
[14:12] Song Kangjon: how long can an account be inactive before Linden Labs deletes it?
[14:12] Kate Linden: oh nice, I like how the info comes down in a pop up notice
[14:12] You: What level of account do you have? Basic, Premium?
[14:12] Song Kangjon: basic
[14:12] You: You're actually good just about forever :-)
[14:13] Song Kangjon: wow
[14:13] Song Kangjon: OK, then I won't stress about it.
[14:13] Jon Linden: the way i understand it, we don't delete accounts unless they actually request it
[14:13] You: If you'd said "6 years", you might have been in a little more trouble, but 6 weeks is fine :-)
[14:13] Song Kangjon smiles
[14:13] Jon Linden: yeah, or if they're inactive for a truly ridiculous amount of time
[14:13] Song Kangjon: that's great. so a month or two isn't truly ridiculous
[14:14] You: In fact, some of our Knowledge Base articles suggest that you move to a Basic account instead of canceling, because it lasts forever and it costs nothing. If you ever decide to come back, it's there waiting for you :-)
[14:14] Song Kangjon: ahh. I didn't find those articles, but admit that my research was pretty brief
[14:15] You: Well, I'm not sure we phrased the question right to match your question... the article I'm referring to was actually something like "How do I cancel my account?"
[14:15] Simon Kline: just for research.. where was the first place you tried to look song?
[14:15] Song Kangjon: right -- the opposite of my query
[14:15] Song Kangjon: I went to the support pages, and did searches of SL via google
[14:15] Song Kangjon: looked up "inactive" "inactive account" and that sort of thing
[14:16] Simon Kline: does the knowledge base look for tags guys or search in the headings?
[14:17] Jon Linden: searching for "account inactive" in the Knowledge Base, I got a result for the article "How long can my Second Life account remain inactive before it's deleted?"
[14:17] Simon Kline: oh cool
[14:17] You: Not sure how they work it, Simon... We can, however, list "alternate questions", or alternate headings to search for.
[14:17] Simon Kline: oh wow very handy
[14:18] You: As for tags, we sort of fake that structure by including articles in more than one folder, if they fit into more than one category.
[14:18] Song Kangjon: oh I shouldn've gone tehre first
[14:19] Simon Kline: hehe well it's good you came along song it's interesting to see how ppl use the kb
[14:19] Song Kangjon: Thanks. I'll remember to search the knowledge base as well as the support page
[14:19] Jon Linden: no problem!
[14:19] You: Woo! Another convert :-)
[14:19] Jon Linden: i wonder if anyone else who uses the same support software we do has tried to implement tagging
[14:20] Song Kangjon: OK, I'll let you get back to work. Thanks for all your help. I got more out of visiting you than I expected!
[14:20] You: Glad to hear it, Song! Thanks for visiting.
[14:20] Simon Kline: lucky person gets to go on 6 weeks holiday!
[14:20] You: Heh. Indeed.
[14:21] Simon Kline: so with things like that is it hard to make that article come up if they just search for inactive
[14:22] Jon Linden: actually, that same article is returned if you just search on "inactive"
[14:22] Simon Kline: hahahah it does!... so in that case... not very hard
[14:22] You: I've been a bit happier with our KB software the past couple weeks. Hopefully it'll continue to improve :-)
[14:23] Simon Kline: it is improving!
[14:23] Simon Kline: heh
[14:23] Kate Linden: We've been talking about ways to encourage people to use the KB more.
[14:23] Jon Linden: our technical review of the KB is chugging along -- with fits and starts, but it's getting there
[14:23] Jeremy Linden nods.
[14:23] Kate Linden: One idea we are tossing around is to use an office hour for a KB Quiz Show
[14:23] Simon Kline: anyhow i think i mentioned a button.. this is a wild idea.. but have a button or maybe even in search with a section "these support articles may interest you"
[14:24] Jon Linden: simon, you are a prescient individual -- we've been trying to get the KB integrated with the inworld search appliance for a while now; it's a technical hurdle
[14:24] Simon Kline: with articles that are relevant to a particular person maybe based on their profile information or groups they're in.. places they've been
[14:24] Simon Kline: oh cool!
[14:24] You: What Jon said, yeah. :-)
[14:24] Jon Linden: the PM on the search project doesn't appear to be in the office today, but i've been meaning to ask her about it for a couple of days now
[14:25] Simon Kline: is that jeska?
[14:25] Jon Linden: somebody else
[14:25] Simon Kline: ohh ok
[14:25] Simon Kline: i was gona say jeska seems to be good at getting over techinical hurdles heh
[14:26] Simon Kline: but that is a good move
[14:26] Simon Kline: kb quiz show would be cool too heh
[14:26] Simon Kline: quizzes in sl seem to be popular at the moment
[14:26] Jon Linden: we haven't come up with a good name for it yet, or if we did, i forgot (my brain is swiss cheese at the moment for some reason)
[14:27] You: When my alt was a newbie, he made all his pocket money by winning trivia contests and playing Primtionary :-)
[14:27] Kate Linden: I think your brain is in tact. The quiz show is nameless : )
[14:27] Simon Kline: if you chat with the v-team i recon the mentors would be interested in that kinda quiz too
[14:27] Kate Linden: nice idea to include the mentors
[14:27] Jon Linden: agreed
[14:28] Jon Linden: i'd be more comfortable launching the show after the tech review is completed
[14:28] Simon Kline: hahah primtionary! i tried that and even managed to build something that someone recognized! cool game tho
[14:28] Kate Linden: Agreed
[14:28] Jon Linden: it would be embarrassing to have people uncover an article that had some glaring error in it
[14:28] Jon Linden: also, it would give us time to put together a nice stable of prizes
[14:28] You: Oh, true.
[14:28] Simon Kline: hehe indeed :D
[14:28] Kate Linden: Yes true also. We do have one prize so far.
[14:29] You: Heh! Oh yeah, I'd almost forgotten!
[14:29] Simon Kline: if u mention prizes on the blog you better get a dock extension
[14:29] You: This'll be a good one, too.
[14:29] Simon Kline: heh
[14:29] Kate Linden: We could hold it at I-World Island.
[14:29] Kate Linden: (if we needed more room)
[14:30] Simon Kline: i-world island is cool :D i loved the opening party :D
[14:30] Simon Kline: i noticed alot of your prims there kate
[14:30] Kate Linden: Yes I built the NW corner and parts of the SE corner
[14:30] Simon Kline: that musta took ages :D
[14:30] Kate Linden: Hmm I think a few months start to finish.
[14:31] Kate Linden: We started putting some of the KB Articles into thinkbooks. They will go on the tables in the cafe for easy access.
[14:31] Simon Kline: i guess another thing with getting the support portal looked at more
[14:32] Simon Kline: might be little vendors which use the html on a cube functionaliy
[14:32] Simon Kline: where ppl could touch it at type in what they're looking for
[14:32] Simon Kline: and it sends a query to the support website and returns the page
[14:32] Kate Linden: I think each person can do that in their own web tab of the profile.
[14:32] Simon Kline: i just thought of that then
[14:32] You: Hm. Or the inworld browser, now.
[14:32] Simon Kline: ahh yeah ture!
[14:32] Simon Kline: true
[14:33] Kate Linden: Everybody is a walking kiosk! :)
[14:33] Simon Kline: hahaha
[14:33] Time Minder: You have been online for 2 hours.
[14:33] You: The book idea is cool, though. I started toying with the idea a long time ago, and even made a prototype. It's not quite as polished as Thinc Books though.
[14:33] Simon Kline: ice creams, pepsi, newspapers
[14:34] Kate Linden: Nicely done Jeremy
[14:34] WidgetHUD v1.1: Kate Linden has pinged you.
[14:34] You: Only one script in the whole thing.
[14:35] Simon Kline: oh nice
[14:35] You: Easy to set up, too. Just dump a bunch of texture UUIDs into a notecard.
[14:35] Simon Kline: and so it has the script and a bunch of textures?
[14:35] Simon Kline: ohh just uuids?
[14:35] Simon Kline: cool
[14:35] You: Yep!
[14:35] Simon Kline: hahaha
[14:35] Simon Kline: that's cool
[14:35] Kate Linden: I like that idea. Storing a folder in inventory of book topic notecards would be an easy way to change book conents.
[14:36] Kate Linden: *contents
[14:36] Simon Kline: very true
[14:38] You: One day, I'll add texture preloading and page-turning animations :-P
[14:38] Simon Kline: hehehe nice jeremy
[14:38] WidgetHUD v1.1: Simon Kline has pinged you.
[14:39] Simon Kline: for my scripting classes i preload images on a prim and change the colour to black.. so it looks like a black prim but really it's preloading images into the nearby ppls viewers
[14:39] You: Ooh, nice.
[14:39] Kate Linden: We should design MR. KB, to pop up and turn the pages.
[14:39] Jeremy Linden sincerely hopes "Mr. KB" isn't a beauty pageant.
[14:39] Jon Linden: hahaha
[14:39] Simon Kline: hehehehe
[14:39] Kate Linden: lol
[14:39] Jon Linden: is there a name for those little tiny companions that i see floating around some peoples' avatars?
[14:40] Simon Kline: i saw someone with a fish floating around them the other day
[14:40] Kate Linden: I'll make a guess, although I have no idea. Shoulder pets?
[14:40] Jon Linden: this talk of a magical Mr. KB put that in my mind
[14:40] Simon Kline: i'd love one of those birds like what appears when cartoons bang their head on something
[14:41] Jon Linden: surely someone has done that inworld
[14:41] Jon Linden: (i also saw one of those orbiting fish a day or so ago)
[14:41] Simon Kline: hmm i wonder what Mr KB would look like
[14:41] Jon Linden: he'd have jeremy's trunk, kate's legs, and my head
[14:41] You: Mr. Coffee's evil nemesis.
[14:41] Simon Kline: hahahha
[14:42] Kate Linden: I've been meaning to animate this hat. It reminds me of cartoons banging heads.
[14:42] You: Whoa, nice hat, Kate.
[14:42] Jon Linden: or one of kate's legs and arms, one of jeremy's legs and arms, my face, jerem'ys hair ...
[14:42] Jon Linden: that is an utterly outstanding hat
[14:42] Simon Kline: yeah cool hat!
[14:42] Kate Linden: It belongs to Colton.
[14:43] Simon Kline: hehe
[14:43] Kate Linden: It's the Fantasmical Hammer Hat
[14:44] Simon Kline: oh wow.. watch out inspector gadget
[14:44] Jon Linden: come to think of it, the orbiting fish i saw was a clockwork fish
[14:44] Kate Linden: Mr, Knowledge Base should be less than 4m tall, for better mobility.
[14:45] Simon Kline: and have a t-shirt that says search me
[14:45] Kate Linden: lol
[14:45] Jon Linden: heheh
[14:45] Simon Kline: or if he had attitude "so search me"
[14:47] Simon Kline: being that tall too it means you dont' have to reserve couch space for him
[14:47] Jon Linden: this is starting to look pretty dang hilarious
[14:47] Simon Kline: lol
[14:48] Kate Linden: he needs a bookbag
[14:50] Jon Linden: hahahahaha
[14:51] Kate Linden gave you Snapshot : J&J Linden Information Delivery, Beaumont (30, 163, .
[14:51] Simon Kline: hehehe nice :D
[14:52] Jon Linden: it looks like a totem to a tropical island cargo-cult Knowledge Base god
[14:52] Simon Kline gave you search me.
[14:52] You: Nice!
[14:52] Kate Linden: He is still named object
[14:52] Simon Kline: hehe
[14:52] Simon Kline: sounds like half the things in my inventory!
[14:52] You: Ooh, no-copy texture, Simon.
[14:53] Simon Kline: oops
[14:53] Simon Kline gave you search me.
[14:53] Simon Kline: try that one! sorry :D
[14:53] Simon Kline: perms get me every time
[14:53] Simon Kline: heh
[14:53] Jon Linden: hahaha
[14:53] Kate Linden: lol
[14:54] Jon Linden: behold DOCNOR, brother of DWELLNOR
[14:54] Simon Kline: hehehe
[14:55] Kate Linden: haha
[14:55] Becky Pippen: sorry to have to run... take care everyone :-)
[14:55] Simon Kline: lol
[14:55] Simon Kline: take care becky!
[14:55] Jon Linden: have a good one Becky@
[14:55] You: Thanks for coming, Becky!
[14:56] Kate Linden: Do you want a hat?
[14:56] You: Who, me?
[14:56] You: At this point, I'm just doodling :-)
[14:56] Jon Linden: a hat would be good
[14:57] Simon Kline: hehe v-cool!
[14:58] Jon Linden: that is looking right cheerful
[14:58] You: Our new mascot!
[14:58] Simon Kline wondered where that bird had got to ... was it you that used to wear it jeremy?
[14:58] WidgetHUD v1.1: Simon Kline has pinged you.
[14:58] You: Sometimes!
[14:58] Simon Kline: hehe
[14:58] Jon Linden: it's a good bird
[14:58] Parrot: He's been keeping me cooped up in his inventory for FAR TOO LONG.
[14:59] Simon Kline: i remember someone wearing that heh indeed!
[14:59] Jon Linden: folks, i must run -- meeting at 3 -- but have an excellent weekend and i'll see you later
[14:59] Jon Linden: hahaha, parrot
[14:59] Simon Kline: i better go too
[14:59] You: Have a good one, Jon.
[14:59] Simon Kline: breakfast time
[14:59] Jon Linden: be well!
[14:59] You: Thanks for coming, Simon!
[14:59] Kate Linden: Same here. Have a great weekend !
[14:59] Simon Kline: thanks for a great office hour
[14:59] Simon Kline: and have a great weekend guys
[14:59] You: Hi haon. Welcome to the very end of Documentation Office Hours :-)
[14:59] haon Arado: can i submit a request to ll
[14:59] haon Arado: :)
[15:00] haon Arado: i just told morphues but was away
[15:00] You: If you've just got a question, fire away. I can't promise that I'm the right person to field requests for action, though.
[15:00] haon Arado: well just a general comment then
[15:01] haon Arado: i would like to see the spectrum on the height slider increased from 4' to 8' feet instead of 5' 8'' to 7' 8''
[15:01] haon Arado: i think it would be quite a bit more practical
[15:02] You: Hm. Interesting... I thought height was based on a number of factors and not just one slider, though?
[15:02] You: You can change the length of your legs, neck, etc...
[15:02] haon Arado: ok i will look into that
[15:02] haon Arado: ty
[15:02] You: If I'm wrong, please feel free to file a feature request at http://jira.secondlife.com
[15:03] haon Arado: so cool!
[15:03] haon Arado: thanks for the website
[15:03] haon Arado: lol gestures...
[15:03] You: Heh!
[15:03] You: Hm. I should probably clean this guy up...
[15:04] Removal of the object 'Justin Hat' from the simulator is disallowed by the permissions system.
[15:05] haon Arado: ok i didn't realize the leg length
[15:05] You: No worries. Thanks for stopping by, anyway!
[15:05] haon Arado: lol thats definetly compensates my request
