Torley Linden: FRIENDLY GREETINGS!
Harleen Gretzky: HI Torley :)
Dizzy Banjo: been hanging around Luskwood too much
Torley Linden: Good morning!
Chase Marellan: hehehehe
Torley Linden: It's all rezzing in for me now...
Dizzy Banjo: howdy Torley
Torley Linden: Howdee!
Torley Linden: Nice to see ya Dizzy, Chase, Tillie, Harleen... who else is here? *looks around*
Chase Marellan: Let me be the first (right now:)) to congratulate you on WL.
Tillie Ariantho: Hey Torley. Are you ruthed or is this your new AV? :D
Chase Marellan: Pretty quiet today, it seems.
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Torley Linden: This is my new av, for now.
Torley Linden: I'll tell ya a story... yesterday during the afternoon I was having login troubles...
Torley Linden: and my attachments failed to load.
Torley Linden: Just about every one of my usual avatars has attachments...
Tillie Ariantho: That happened to all of us. .P
Torley Linden: so I was like, "Aw, dang it!" and Ruthed myself.
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Torley Linden: I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one. ;)
Chase Marellan: hahahahaha....
Torley Linden: But seriously yeah, it bugs me when that happens too...
Torley Linden: I've been hit by most of the common bugs that plague us... and which a lot of Lindens churn around the clock to fix...
Harleen Gretzky: Dougal Jacobs gives away an Autoderuth'er
Torley Linden: So what's on everyone's mind today?
Dizzy Banjo: im struggling with the "loading..." gesture bug atm
Torley Linden: I wonder how that works, Harleen... got a copy I can try out? Or shall I seek Dougal?
Torley Linden: OH ARGH yeah Dizzy, that one affects me right now, my Voice gestures are NOT in inventory but show up in the Gestures list!
Harleen Gretzky gave you Autoderuth v1.2 by Dougal.
Harleen Gretzky: There you go
Torley Linden: Thankya Harleen!
Dizzy Banjo: yeh thats it
Tillie Ariantho: I have a question about the Pooley Stage... how to use that one? Do you have to register with the Lindens? Or can you just use it?
Dizzy Banjo: mine are stuck permanently on
Dizzy Banjo: its very irritating
Torley Linden: It's funny today's so quiet because I did extra good about advertising my Office Hours all over... and when I don't advertise, it's busier.
Torley Linden: Irony tends to strike me.
Chase Marellan: :)
Dizzy Banjo: i think i have a weird variant on the bug
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Torley Linden: Tillie, great Q. And you can basically use it any time you want, it's HARDLY used by Lindens...
Torley Linden: the times when Lindens do use it, we announce in advance, e.g., Town Hall.
Torley Linden: But that sorta thing hasn't happened in awhile.
Torley Linden: So chances of an "event collision" are slim.
Tillie Ariantho: Yes, that's quite different with the Office Hours and such meetings, Torley, some time the Open Source thingy is overcrowded, other day almost noone is there...
Tillie Ariantho: Okay.
Chase Marellan: Are most of today's trees forever broken by WL?
Torley Linden: It's intriguing how the flow of things goes...
Dizzy Banjo: nice music on this channel there for a bit.. was it yours Torley ?
Torley Linden: Chase: Ah you know what, WindLight is exposing flaws in the old trees...
Tillie Ariantho: Because for bigger things it is great... as you have have 120 Avs around. :)
Torley Linden: it's the freakin' cardboard cutout problem with trees, right?
Torley Linden: Yes Tillie, exactly.
Torley Linden: Dizzy, yes it is. I composed it.
Torley Linden: And thank you. :)
Chase Marellan: that would be it. :)
Chase Marellan: Yes, it's quite nice (the music)
Tillie Ariantho: The face is too dark most of the time, too.
Dizzy Banjo: i had a question about WL
Torley Linden: Yeah, *makes a note Chase doesn't like the flat trees either*... we plan to eventually replace them but I'm collecting feedback from everyone who's noticed how bad Linden trees look now.
Torley Linden: Especially in high-contrast light conditions.
Tillie Ariantho: I find almost no setting where the face is not too dark, even with a face lamp ...
Dizzy Banjo: its interesting..
Sephy McCaw: hello
Chase Marellan: yes, it's almost nightmarish
Dizzy Banjo: ive done alot of solar analysis in another career..
Chase Marellan: morning, sephy
Torley Linden: We're continuing to tweak the default day cycle too... *keeps writing feedback*
Dizzy Banjo: i see the sunpath of Windlight is a real one
Dizzy Banjo: but "where" IS second life
Dizzy Banjo: on a globe
Torley Linden: Haha Dizzy, makes ya think, doesn't it? Because, we're presented as a "grid"...
Dizzy Banjo: to me it looks like a reasonably high angle midday sun
Dizzy Banjo: yes
Dizzy Banjo: one thing i thought
Torley Linden: Obviously some things are always going to be hyperstylized.
Dizzy Banjo: was that it could be a lower angle path
Dizzy Banjo: when it is right overhead.. it causes some avatars to be in shade on their face
Torley Linden: Right overhead, as in Noon?
Dizzy Banjo: yeh
Torley Linden: Heya Sephy.
Chase Marellan wants to note that he didn't mean to start out negative. The skies are gorgeous. :)
Sephy McCaw: Hello Torley
Torley Linden: Oh it's fine, these types of observations are REALLY appreciated, Chase!
Chase Marellan: :)
Torley Linden: They help me advocate that, you noticed and felt it was a problem too...
Torley Linden: I think (1) some things can definitely been bettered and (2) some things will just take time to get used to.
Chase Marellan: Really really jumped out at me
Tillie Ariantho: I would like the faces to be gorgeous in the windlight light, too. .)
Chase Marellan: sure
Sephy McCaw: Torley will there be more detail going in for the ATI graphics cards....because im not seeing any changes in the water
Chase Marellan: Are water settings supposed to only affect what you see when you're underwater?
Torley Linden: Hmmm Sephy, what ATI card are you on, and what changes are you not seeing?
Chase Marellan: :) Same thing here
Chase Marellan: when I'm underwater I see the changes, though
Sephy McCaw: im on ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
Torley Linden: Chase: Advanced water settings should affect the surface, too...
Dizzy Banjo: one thing ive noticed.. is that the visual / atmospheric rendering changes enable an increased gestalt effect.. you fill in MORE of the missing information
Sephy McCaw: and when i change water settings and colour nothing happens
Torley Linden: We ARE aware of some problems with certain ATI cards that are supported otherwise...
Dizzy Banjo: ive even thought more audio has been going on.. when it hasnt been
Chase Marellan: that's what I thought, but that's not working for me. File a bug, shall i?
Torley Linden: Sephy, please check on http://jira.secondlife.com if that specific issue is already reported, and if not, go ahead and report it. I'll bring it to the attention of our developers.
Sephy McCaw: i just updated my cards drivers and i lost the cloud editing preferences
Torley Linden: We've had some cases too in which you have to check your ATI Control Panel, and TURN OFF Catalyst AI and don't set it to override SL's own Graphics Preferences...
Tillie Ariantho: Water 'fogging' works pretty good for me (nvidia 8800)
Dizzy Banjo: yeh i was stunned by wacking it up to ultra on my 8800
Tillie Ariantho: Yeh, that rocks. :D
Torley Linden: To edit clouds, in Preferences > Graphics tab, Atmospheric Shaders *must* be on.
Chase Marellan: Hi, Moard
Moard Ling: Hia Chase et al.
Torley Linden: I'm on a 8800GTS myself. For anyone who needs a reasonable graphics card and doesn't have one yet, Runitai recommends the new 8800GT as a quality bang-for-the-buck.
Moard Ling: 7800 Me
Torley Linden: Heya Moard!
Sephy McCaw: ahh i have that turned off because it makes my houses and stuff see through
Torley Linden: We'll definitely continue to sort things out and make WindLight more compatible on systems where it should be supported...
Chase Marellan: 7900 GS
Torley Linden: Hmmm Sephy, yeah, that sounds like another known issue.
Moard Ling: I see horizons everywhere
Torley Linden: We're planning to release an updated WindLight each week...
Dizzy Banjo: i tried it on my very low end ATI based laptop
Chase Marellan: Way cool.
Torley Linden: so some of these initial issues should be squashed soon.
Dizzy Banjo: it was interesting to run it very low
Sephy McCaw: ok cool
Dizzy Banjo: and see how the imposters help
Chase Marellan is glad he doesn't have to make everything work here; his brain would just explode.
Dizzy Banjo: personally i think it was running better than the normal client on the laptop .. with everything "off"
Sephy McCaw: epp laggy
Dizzy Banjo: which is how i always have the normal client anyway
Torley Linden: Yup, that's a fine way to test... turn shaders off on main viewer and WindLight and try running...
Torley Linden: Baseline performance should be better in WindLight.
Torley Linden: Even with shaders on in WindLight, performance should be better in general circumstances, with SOME exceptions...
Torley Linden: e.g., water reflections is VERY taxing.
Dizzy Banjo: yeh
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Torley Linden: Esp. if it's set to "Everything".
Dizzy Banjo: one thing ive noticed.. is the water looks SO good with everything set on full.. that you end up looking at the sea instead of SL !!
Tillie Ariantho: I do not really feel any performance impacts between low and high settings usually.
Torley Linden: Hahaha yes, I find myself walking out into the water.
Torley Linden: That's good to know, Tillie!
Torley Linden: Has anyone else noticed that when teleporting sometimes, SL will freeze?
Tillie Ariantho: What really impacts performance is the texture loading from harddisc or new transfer from the servers ...
Tillie Ariantho: That is the most annoying part... .)
Dizzy Banjo hopes we will find far more underwater / sea based builds now
Chase Marellan: Torley: hit me yesterday for the first time in a while
Torley Linden: I've been having a problem (and I notice because I TP often) where if I go to TP, and only in the WindLight viewer, my SL will freeze for 30-60 secs. typically.
Sephy McCaw: neither do i just my crap connection likes to boot its self everynow and then
Torley Linden: Chase, so you got frozen while trying to TP?
Dizzy Banjo thinks Light Waves caught on early with Black Swan
Chase Marellan: Actually, I thought you meant the "SL crashes if TP takes too long" bug.
Torley Linden: Tillie, yeah, I find when entering a new, very geometry-rich area, SL will just churn... and feel chunky...
Torley Linden: OH Chase, I experienced that yesterday, just once... but I wonder if it's related.
Tillie Ariantho: And what's most annoying currently is the "gesture missing from database" at startup... especially when it is the default standing animation. :-/
Chase Marellan: dunno
Dizzy Banjo: i think "gesture missing" must be pretty high priority now .. its got loads of votes on the jira anyway.. lol
Torley Linden: Yup, that's pretty hot and annoying.
Torley Linden: I dislike it a lot myself.
Torley Linden: I used to have that problem more, not currently, but I have seen it firsthand.
Tillie Ariantho: Couldn't be those basic things part of the install archive? Just the dozen default anims and such?
Torley Linden: How do you mean, Tillie? =)
Tillie Ariantho: I mean: why are they in the "database" or better missing there, and not stored locally at all?
Tillie Ariantho: You will need those anims all the time ...
Tillie Ariantho: No need to have them loading from the database...
Torley Linden: I am not exactly sure of that.
Torley Linden: The error message isn't terribly helpful. :\
Tillie Ariantho: Yes. .)
Torley Linden: I know we've been wanting to get in more explanatory error messages too.
Torley Linden: "Missing from database" is pretty vague.
Torley Linden: In some cases it's misleading too.
Torley Linden: E.g., I've had times where it told me gestures were missing from database, but then I relogged, and it was fine again.
Tillie Ariantho: I had two missing from database with iTunes, too. :p Hope they go fix that, I paid for those songs. .D
Sephy McCaw: hmm i just turned of catlist AI and nothing changed
Torley Linden: Part of the difficulty with that issue is finding a solid repro...
Torley Linden: LOL Tillie!
Torley Linden: Sephy, it may be something else then, but I'll be keeping an eye on the Issue Tracker.
Sephy McCaw: okies
Torley Linden: What is really helpful when a bunch of Residents start piling on an issue and saying they all have the same prob.
Torley Linden: The info adds up and really helps our developers figure out what the heck is going on.
Tillie Ariantho: I think that gesture thingy are having ALL people, no?
Torley Linden: Tillie, not that I'm aware of. It's affected quite a few Residents, but not all.
Tillie Ariantho: hm
Sephy McCaw: missing gestures?
Sephy McCaw: never had that problem
Moard Ling: i'd rather have a gesture missing that my prim hair
Dizzy Banjo: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-333;jsessionid=3E1D3E51E072D893629C7591283B40F4
Torley Linden: Gestures are a difficult area, they are so laden with little bugs and usability issues.
Tillie Ariantho: Hello Flea. :)
Dizzy Banjo: i think this is the "main" jira for this one isnt it Torley ?
Torley Linden: Benjamin Linden (head of Resident Experience Team) and I once waded through them and by the time we got through some, it was a pretty messed-up situation.
Torley Linden: Yes, Dizzy -- thanks!
Flea Bussy: Heheh.
Torley Linden: Heya Flea!
Dizzy Banjo: everyone vote for it !!
Torley Linden: Glad to see ya here!
Torley Linden: Wow, that isa NICE suitcase...
Flea Bussy: It's yer fault the carniferns are pink n green!
Torley Linden: are you like, Mephistophelesque?
Torley Linden: Oooh, Carniferns? Where where?
Flea Bussy: Oh, tis very legal, indeed, I am the paralegal imp..not quite that evil, but learning!
Flea Bussy: heh, hang on..lemme root around...
Flea Bussy gave you Pitcher Plant Dryad (Female).
Torley Linden: Thank youuu!
Harleen Gretzky: Thx :)
Torley Linden: Let's see here...
Torley Linden: *transforms*
Sexywalk Override: 1970 bytes free
Torley Linden: OMG awesome!
Flea Bussy gave you Sundew Dryad (Female).
Dizzy Banjo: oo
Torley Linden: Whoa, sculptie sacs!
Torley Linden: This is delightful. Thank YOU!
Flea Bussy: heehee
Tillie Ariantho: That's awesome :D
Chase Marellan: thanks, Flea
Tillie Ariantho: And all Torley colors. :P
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Flea Bussy: And cobrahoods and venus ones are also, ironically, in nature, pink and green, like those are...hey, it's carifern melon-wannabes!
Torley Linden: Hehehe...
Dizzy Banjo: er.. clones
Torley Linden: You've clearly done your research.
Flea Bussy: yep, they're them colors in nature. coincidence? I THINK NOT.
Torley Linden: Haha Dizzy!
Torley Linden: Nice...
Torley Linden: plant spawning!
Chase Marellan: hahahah...
Chase Marellan: it's contagious, apparently
Sephy McCaw: lol
Dizzy Banjo: im not using copybot .. I PROMISE !!!
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Torley Linden: OH DEAR.
Torley Linden: The other day I came across a photocopier object in the sandbox.
Torley Linden: It was named "Copybot". :p
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Tillie Ariantho: hah
Chase Marellan: ha
Sephy McCaw: Torley what is your graphics card?
Dizzy Banjo: whilst i love it.. its not black.. hence i cannot wear it
Torley Linden: Are all your avatars black?
Flea Bussy: Black bat? easy peasy.
Moard Ling: Nothing will ever be black again in Windlight
Sexywalk Override: 1970 bytes free
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Dizzy Banjo: ooo thankyou flea :)
Flea Bussy: Heehee
Flea Bussy: eep, you hang upside by default
Torley Linden: I'm glad we're seeing a lot of long-term stuff finally come out to public...
Torley Linden: WindLight, new Search, Havok 4, etc
Torley Linden: .
Flea Bussy: the bats normally are used to sit on things normally not used by people, like lights n such
Sexywalk Override: 1970 bytes free
Sephy McCaw: Havok4?
Torley Linden: Yup Sephy. It's on the Beta Test Grid right now...
Sephy McCaw: oh well thats no good :P
Flea Bussy: The fun of a possibly elss crashy engine, hooray!
Torley Linden: Improved physics, lessened server crashes (due to deep-thinks)...
Torley Linden: AYe.
Torley Linden: Why's it no good? ;)
Moard Ling: and bette rsearch
Dizzy Banjo: lol this avi is nuts !! thanks
Torley Linden: Yeah, WindLight is something we hoped to do for a long time... we had an internal "killer skies" project that didn't pan out, then we found these eager geniuses from Boston...
Flea Bussy: heehee
Sephy McCaw: you need to test it on the main grid even just for one day with the amount of residents
Flea Bussy: try sitting on the cube, dizzy
Torley Linden: Sephy, we're planning to scale it on main Second Life gradually. :)
Sephy McCaw: ok
Torley Linden: There's a wiki page which explains more about the plans...
Flea Bussy: ...hmm
Flea Bussy: yeah, the layout page
Dizzy Banjo: very cool
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Dizzy Banjo: i feel menacing.. very unlike my other bat :D
Torley Linden: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Havok_4_Beta_Home if you'd like more news, Sephy. :)
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
Sephy McCaw: thankies
Torley Linden: Flea, I sorta recognize that texture above your head.
Flea Bussy: most of the projects that were being beavered away on at last seem to be poking through into first look and beta grid, which is promising...and hopefully also will quell the 'ARGH LINDEN LABS KNOWS NOZZING!' thing most folks spew at any chance.
Torley Linden: ;)
Flea Bussy: it's a scalerobe one, off the melon-colyte
Torley Linden: Yeah Flea, it's really been this balance between improving stability & performance while not quelling innovation...
Torley Linden: they are all very synergistic.
Flea Bussy: problem is people are amazing!
Chase Marellan: OK, here's the water settings Jira: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3229
Torley Linden: Haha.
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/15221
Torley Linden: Oh thanks for making that Chase! HMMM you're on a Go 7900 GS...
Tillie Ariantho: Is there known why we hade those performace problems this week? Okay, the days with 56.000 people online... no need to discuss THAT... but the other days... .)
Torley Linden: Chase, is that possibly the same issue as this? https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-925
Chase Marellan: checking...
Torley Linden: Or perhaps part of the same thing... hrmmmmm...
Flea Bussy: To sum up most of the noisy population of sl...'I want you to do this, never mind what he said or thinks we need, do what I say!' ad infinitum to each person, all refrencing each other...
Flea Bussy: Actually, is the grid have a 'total load' potential?
Dizzy Banjo: talking about population increase...
Flea Bussy: as in the entire grid cna only handle X amount of activity at a given time?
Moard Ling: I find number of people isnt really related to performace issue
Chase Marellan: Torley: No, I actually have the ripples
Torley Linden: OK Chase...
Dizzy Banjo: well with the AWG proposals it could increase exponentially
Torley Linden: I don't think we have a specific "total load" but our Operations Team does scale and watch for when new hardware's needed for even more Residents.
Dizzy Banjo: speaking of population increase...
Dizzy Banjo: hey Torley I went to a presentation that Philip did yesterday in SL... and had an interesting question for him ( which he dodged ;) ).. i wonder if youd have a pop at it Torley..
Sephy McCaw: hmm im starting to think i should have got a NVidia graphics card lol
Flea Bussy: Well, here's a odd thing we noticed...population aside, the server seems to choke more when there's large amounts of 'grid crashing' stuff going on..the folks who look for the fame in that, and it does seem to definetly affect the entire grid's preformance
Moard Ling: The articles about face lights don't help performance :)
Dizzy Banjo: lol.. its hard tho.. its more of a open ended discussion really
Moard Ling: ty
Torley Linden: Oh sure, Dizzy.
Dizzy Banjo: Philip was talking about the possibilities in the future..
Torley Linden: Sephy, we're hoping to resolve the known issues with ATI cards soon... I hope WindLight does work better for you.
Dizzy Banjo: and how say in 10 years.. we will see the level of immersion we see in movies today.. in second life
Torley Linden listens...
Moard Ling: My biggest problem was my router needed maintenance with a 5lb hammer
Dizzy Banjo: and how positive that was
Dizzy Banjo: how it opens up world wide collaboration etc
Dizzy Banjo: i also think its hugely important in terms of sustainability .. for mankind really
Dizzy Banjo: my question was :
Dizzy Banjo: in 20 years.. when the virtual world becomes as compelling as you envisage.. what do you think will happen to the social networks of society.. do you think virtual worlds will ever be able to convey the intricacies of REAL human contact ? whilst being incredibly positive in terms of sustainability and global innovation - are you concerned about the potential for isolation ?
Flea Bussy: That happens already, though
Flea Bussy: People hermiting onto here, n never seeing the sun, heh
Dizzy Banjo: yes.. but its a wider discussion about trajectory really i think
Torley Linden: That's pretty visionary stuff. I think a lot of what we'll see will be a natural extension of today (and pretty predictable), whereas other parts will be more polar.
Torley Linden: I think some societies (groups of people) will abandon things like notions of privacy.
Torley Linden: Whereas others will become very adamant about their personal rights.
Flea Bussy: Suppose it'd be much like the internet was...first a novelty, then now part of life. But not replacing life outside.
Tillie Ariantho: Hey, at least *I* didnt meet people before SL either... with SL I meet lots more people than before, even if only virtually...
Torley Linden: I think if haptic technology is advanced and consumer-widespread by then, then "REAL human contact" becomes a less a question of "where" but "when".
Dizzy Banjo: it has fundamental implications... which im not saying will be bad.. but just "different"..
Moard Ling: ah the days of altavista
Dizzy Banjo: yeah i agree
Flea Bussy: much like SL is today, nodoubt
Flea Bussy: The variety is what causes the frictions
Torley Linden: I believe it's important to extend from the two main senses of online worlds today — sight and sound — into other senses.
Torley Linden: Yup, we have diversity and within that we also have conflict.
Tillie Ariantho: Oh no, I already see the first griefer attacks with stink bombs coming. .P
Torley Linden: People who want Linden Lab to make a firm stance on some issues that they can't even agree amongst themselves, it's kind of like watching your kids grow up and have more independence (e.g., self-governance on private estates).
Flea Bussy: 'mute nose'
Dizzy Banjo: for instance i think business happens "differently" in here
Flea Bussy: I would say the self governace issue is probably a very good idea
Torley Linden: The vices we have today, human foibles, will be the same 20, 50, 100 years from now, expressed in different ways.
Torley Linden: It's kind of like, we're still people, we're just using technology to communicate.
Tillie Ariantho: What are foibles? .D
Torley Linden: Foibles are like, weaknesses.
Tillie Ariantho: ah okay. .)
Flea Bussy: Despite the obvious legal issues for what is considered very non legit in anyplace in the real world...the minor 'strifes' that occur over stuff in ehre could be possibly cleaned more by the empowerment of the landowners
Moard Ling: New jersey cosuins of thre Thimbles
Chase Marellan: Aside from just being a great word. :)
Torley Linden: I really like the musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, and he's also done a lot of thinking about legal issues...
Torley Linden: copyright law, for example, is very antiquated.
Torley Linden: It can't keep up with filesharing networks.
Moard Ling: YMO ?
Torley Linden: YES, YMO!
Torley Linden: Yellow Magic Orchestra founder...
Torley Linden: I think, as we've seen through history, there'll be a lot of bold words spoken, but there'll also be people who go, "To hell with those words! I'll make something great happen another way!"
Flea Bussy snickers.
Sephy McCaw: true
Dizzy Banjo: yeh i think with these social tools.. things just happen differently.. in many ways there are bigger emotional extremes..
Moard Ling: Most histories include civil war at some stage ...
Torley Linden: Etymologically, this becomes even more profound as we realize how influential some previously "external" sources have been to mainstream culture... for example, the fringes of hip-hop, now a dominant force in the music industry.
Chase Marellan: Well, differently is the main thing
Flea Bussy: everything changes, and it's silly to not expect it to
Dizzy Banjo: if you consider a trajectory like "jennifer government"
Flea Bussy: just most people resent change
Dizzy Banjo: combined with this trajectory
Torley Linden: An important thing for me, is seeing what survives through the "novelty" phases and lasts for the longer-term... some people used to regard the Internet as a "fad"... we can see how backward-thinking they are in retrospect.
Torley Linden: I've only heard of that book, Jennifer Government, and read the synopsis. Intriguing.
Dizzy Banjo: when companies are like that.. in perhaps operating entirely virtually
Dizzy Banjo: that "difference" becomes mind boggling
Moard Ling: ethnomusicologist is a word ?
Dizzy Banjo: anyway ill stop ranting.. lol
Torley Linden: Yes, ethnomusicologist is!
Torley Linden: Hey, here's a great place to rant about such grand issues.
Torley Linden: I know a lot of press articles still regard Second Life as this crazily new-fangled thing; in some ways, it is. But in time, online worlds will become "normal" in a casual everyday way like how television sets in the home are.
Dizzy Banjo: yes
Dizzy Banjo: there is another trend i see
Moard Ling: Big issue - So why is the pix on your sl profile at a different aspect ratio to your RL one
Torley Linden: Yeah Moard, longtime inconsistency. :p No particular reason I think...
Moard Ling: makes us all look fat
Dizzy Banjo: which is that the distance between people embracing this trajectory.. and those who are "behind the curve" is increasing all the time
Sephy McCaw: ugh stupid internet browser
Moard Ling: Well routers used to be complicated but now theu have a UI that is mainstream
Torley Linden: Moard: Also depends on the aspect ratio of how you scaled/cropped the original picture... but it is tricky that textures are uploaded as powers of 2...
Dizzy Banjo: however.. the difficulty for people to "jump in" both technically and conceptually .. is getting smaller all the time
Moard Ling: I never thought my parents would have a router
Tillie Ariantho: .D
Tillie Ariantho: Mine have too, but I have to tell them what to do when "the internet is not working anymore". .P
Moard Ling: So tehre must be a way to uncomplicate stuff
Dizzy Banjo: for instance my parents.. both really "understood" the concept of second life instantly.. ( they are 60 )
Tillie Ariantho: And that is mostly: switch it off and on again. .D
Torley Linden listens.
Torley Linden: Routers is a good example for me, because home networking has really gotten a lot more popular!
Tillie Ariantho: But computer stuff is still too complicated!
Moard Ling: Apart from the US pronunciation :)
Torley Linden: Hehe, your parents sound really advanced, Dizzy.
Dizzy Banjo: well they had me there explaining it to them ;)
Flea Bussy: not everyone's are, or everyone even in other places
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Dizzy Banjo: but yeh they are wonderful
Flea Bussy: I've had my sibling phone me to ask 'what is Second life?' because his boss wanted to 'get in on it'
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Dizzy Banjo: ive had that too
Flea Bussy: 'what does your company do, exactly?'
Chase Marellan: My parents don't get it. My grandparents REALLY don't get it. I keep having to explain to my grandmother that I really am WORKING, honestly. :)
Dizzy Banjo: from my sister in Dresdner Bank in Frankfurt
Tillie Ariantho: My father got an email with a photo and used that "add it" feature he saw for that adope photo display thingy... later the photo wasnt found anymore ... because there was a link made to the "temporary copy" you get when you watch a photo in an email program...
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Moard Ling: Can you believe how hard it used to be to programme a video recorder, then there was the bizarre vido plus, now its just a selct button
Torley Linden: Hehe Chase, I've run into similar situations myself!
Flea Bussy: 'Uhm, we sell an internet service?' 'I don't think he's got much to attract folks, is he just doing that because others are in his clique?'
Dizzy Banjo: Philip made a great point yesterday
Torley Linden: Yeah Moard, when devices go mainstream...
Dizzy Banjo: that virtual worlds fundamentally dont use language
Flea Bussy: well, much like even cars n such...back in the day you had to know how to pretty much work everything in it to have one..and nowdays...'magic' runs the car...only it's called 'technology'
Tillie Ariantho: Dizzy: You sister is in the DreBa in Frankfurt? I am too. .D
Torley Linden: Yup, cars used to be called "horseless carriages" too! ;)
Dizzy Banjo: id say it potentially goes further than that
Flea Bussy: granny doesn't care what goes on under the hood, just she presses the button n tada, magic!
Torley Linden: We may very well have some new terms for online worlds that'll get very popular in years to come, which are unheard of today.
Dizzy Banjo: id say it doesnt use the language of anything.. even the technology its on
Moard Ling: look at cars now Merc wouldnt sell you the spanner to drain the sump
Flea Bussy: I suggest we call it the Melonverse. So Torley can then take us out for watermelons on the summer's day.
Dizzy Banjo: wouldnt it be amazing if Second Life got to the point where it always looked like Ctrl Alt F1
Torley Linden: Heheh Flea, I'd be up for that kinda celebration!
Flea Bussy: When I press those buttons, my computer spat a 4 inch floppy at me
Moard Ling really wants to try Ctrl Alt F1 but his F1 is missing
Chase Marellan: ooooo....
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Flea Bussy: Goes to show, I have no floppy drive installed so I'm wondering where it's coming from
Chase Marellan hadn't seen that before
Chase Marellan: hahaha
Dizzy Banjo: if the entire interface was actually in world
Chase Marellan: but then what would you do if things went bad?
Tillie Ariantho: heh
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Moard Ling: Cordless keyboards are not a techological advance
Tillie Ariantho: Nope.
Torley Linden: Moard, it's also a menu option, in Client menu > Rendering > Features but seems like you won't be able to get it back without a relog if you don't have F1!
Flea Bussy: Not everything new is wonderful.
Torley Linden: I have no floppy drive either, they're so passe.
Tillie Ariantho: Any other keyboards that default cherry ones are pretty bad anyway. .P
Torley Linden: I like my Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000, it's CHEAP (US$20) and nice.
Tillie Ariantho: If you used those for like 15 years you cant use any others anymore...
Sephy McCaw: i have one...just to fill the empty space
Moard Ling: when a cordless one falls it alwaus hits the floor
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Chase Marellan: I need to get back to the point where I have a real office again so I can set my voice recognition back up; my hands are killing me
Sephy McCaw: haha
Torley Linden: Aw. :\ Yah, I'm a big advocate for alternative input devices.
Moard Ling: yes brign bacak dictation
Chase Marellan: heck yea
Chase Marellan: Besides, there's always a good laugh in what it THINKS I said. :)
Sexywalk Override: 1970 bytes free
Tillie Ariantho: Voice to text did IBM years ago, was even part of OS/2 Warp 3. .P
Sephy McCaw: wb torley
Dizzy Banjo: yeh
Torley Linden: Thanks, I crashz0red!
Torley Linden: What'd I miss?
Tillie Ariantho: Then came DragonType, and lots of others later, too.
Torley Linden remembers that the manager of the Chicago Bulls liked OS/2 Warp.
Sephy McCaw: the whole world exploded?
Dizzy Banjo: just talking about vivox doing a talk later today
Torley Linden: Ahhhh.
Dizzy Banjo: over at dr dobbs
Flea Bussy gave you melonfloppy.
Tillie Ariantho: So there is no newness in Speechrecognition ,)
Dizzy Banjo: yeh
Dizzy Banjo: just a SL integrated version
Dizzy Banjo: well vinny discussed it a while back as a possibility anyway
Tillie Ariantho: I want a brain interface to SL. :)
Torley Linden: I haven't done much stuff with speech recognition lately but I remember when I got my old Mac Quadra 660AV in '93 and it had a fun early implementation, it was pretty amazing at the time.
Moard Ling: The amiga was *interesting* at it
Torley Linden: I didn't do voice recognition with my Amiga, only text-to-speech.
Dizzy Banjo: mmm im in the bliss of a completely organised inventory..
Torley Linden: Flea, you look so well-balanced!
Torley Linden: :D :D
Flea Bussy: ?
Torley Linden: *applauds*
Torley Linden: As a bat, perched upside-down!
Tillie Ariantho: Yeh, I have never written letters, only when I used OS/2 with VoiceType... .) So it was good for something, at last. .P
Dizzy Banjo: its me.. lol
Flea Bussy: Er
Torley Linden: I'm definitely in support of organizing thine inventory!
Flea Bussy: Wrong person.
Flea Bussy: hehe
Flea Bussy: Yer too used to me being the random av! heh
Moard Ling: How abou a tier system for partners
Torley Linden: Oh crap!
Torley Linden: I looked at the wrong nametag!
Torley Linden: Sorry Dizzy!
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
Torley Linden: And Flea. ;)
Torley Linden: *blush*
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Sephy McCaw: tier window
Flea Bussy cries.
Torley Linden: It must be wonderful though, seeing so many people wear your avatars.
Moard Ling: Yeah a partner history
Dizzy Banjo: this avi is awesome thanks so much Flea
Flea Bussy: Torley can't even recognize me! *emos*
Dizzy Banjo: lmao
Flea Bussy: I have something to cure this awkward social situation!
Torley Linden: Oh yeah, what's that? :)
Moard Ling: Fuego!
Dizzy Banjo: oh god !
Flea Bussy: *emos to death*
Flea Bussy: heeheehee
Flea Bussy: Yeah, we're nuts.
Dizzy Banjo: lol flea NNNoooooooooo!!
Flea Bussy: anyone need a noose? maybe to kill a convo you hate being in?
Chase Marellan: :)
Chase Marellan: I'd love one, thanks. :)
Moard Ling: emo a christmas elmo, nowell
Chase Marellan: I can think of several reasons. :)
Tillie Ariantho: What is a partner tier system good for? Two people will have enought brains how to figure out paying two accounts, no? Or splitting the costs of some land ...
Torley Linden: Tickle me Emo! ;)
Chase Marellan: much obliged.:)
Tillie Ariantho: ...no need to change that tier system and introduce bugs.
Torley Linden: Some parts of the tier system could be simplified...
Marianne McCann: Whew
Torley Linden: Land ownership can be hard to figure out sometimes, I sympathize.
Torley Linden: Heya Mari!
Marianne McCann: Hey Torley
Marianne McCann: Wow, it's like a mini reunion of people in Robbie's last viddie
Flea Bussy: You know what's fun? when you own the land, set it to group, and the land barfs your objects on you. Even though you wear the proper tag to build there. That's some quality fun!
Torley Linden: :D
Marianne McCann: Hi Flea (an thankoo)
Moard Ling: I met someone on OI who had been tehre for 6 months
Torley Linden: I liked Robbie's last vid a lot, I said thank-you to him!
Flea Bussy: heyoo
Torley Linden: Wow Moard, what were they doing there for so long?
Flea Bussy: I should send him a dingo.
Moard Ling: handying out saki :)
Marianne McCann: Been there done that, Flea
Flea Bussy grins.
Torley Linden: Flea: That's a nightmare for some but you have a positive attitude!
Flea Bussy: PSH
Marianne McCann giggles
Flea Bussy: I've been outsmated by a mccann!
Tillie Ariantho: OI?
Torley Linden: Haha Moard, trying to get newcomers all virtually drunk?
Torley Linden: Orientation Island.
Moard Ling: ayes
Moard Ling: it wa shialrious
Chase Marellan: Flea: Did that a couple of weeks ago, but the build just disappeared completely. :(
Flea Bussy: I always said if my build barfed up like that I'd fill the sim with pillowgryphs
Chase Marellan: had to roll back the island
Flea Bussy: and hit physics
Marianne McCann giggles
Flea Bussy: ever seen a pillowgryph?
Torley Linden: Sorry to hear that hit you, Chase. :\
Moard Ling: had a nice little party whilst everyone edited their appearences
Torley Linden: Never heard of a pillowgryph... sounds soft yet firm?
Chase Marellan: I was my own fault; I should have left well enough alone. :)
Marianne McCann: We lost a little bit f Livingtree the other day when dat happened, Flea. It was, um, a challenge
Moard Ling: wow i am a pillowgryph Thanks
Flea Bussy: I shalt now preform the dance they can do.
Marianne McCann: cute!
Torley Linden: Hahaha, cuuuute.
Torley Linden: S'adorable.
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/15222
Torley Linden: Now I am acquainted with this new kind of mythological creature!
Flea Bussy: pages of art on them, they're hilarious adventurers
Torley Linden: Alas, I must also go for now and resume other work... but I thank all of you for being here with me at my office hour!
Torley Linden: I'll back at 2 PM PST for my next one. =)
Moard Ling: Now we can have a Ruth party and a pillowgryph party
Flea Bussy: sno worries!
Marianne McCann: 2aww
Tillie Ariantho: Bye Torley. :)
Torley Linden: Baiz 4 now... have an adventurous yet safe day! =D

Abdullah Freeman: Wheee!
Alexa Linden gets motion sickness
Ryder Dryke: hello all around!
Lyndsey Forager: Hey Natalia!!!
Bridie Linden: Hey Ryder, Daed
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: Awww I think I did Troy, alas I can't reply to all the email I get nowadays, it's too much for one Linden to handle! But thank-you.
Ryder Dryke: hey bridie
matika Wombat: aw what a cute bunny
Torley Linden: Very much appreciated.
Torley Linden: Oooh Natalia how nice to see you inworld too! After all the blog reading.

Ryder Dryke: hey ama :)
Natalia Zelmanov: Hi Torley! Nice to meet you finally :)
Lyndsey Forager: lolol
Amadeo Beaumont: ...torley we have the same issues it seems XD
Amadeo Beaumont: hy ry
Squirrel Wood: /ao off
Troy Childs: well i mainly asked in the email about your system specs im looking to upgrade soon and i was hopeing to know your specs your videos make your system looks smooth runing with windlight
lufpleh Obstreperous imagines what its like to become a celebrity at the company you work for!! lol
Torley Linden: Oh and Troy, let's see... as for your email there, unfortunately it seems to be a support-type issue. I can give you my system specs tho...
Torley Linden: here they are:
Amadeo Beaumont: hope I didn't crash into anyone
Torley Linden: http://torley.com/whats-in-torleys-new-computer
matika Wombat: he is digging
Troy Childs: ty
Torley Linden: This is from a few months back but that's still my current computer.
Torley Linden: =o)
Alexa Linden: Squirrel :D
matika Wombat: I just got this computer a few months ago
matika Wombat: specially for SL,, two monitors, multi task lol, I am spoiled
Troy Childs: i may of missed that so many links on your web page
Squirrel Wood: it looks like another wave of griefings is just starting :(
Lyndsey Forager: Natalia, you better watch here, someone might push you in the water!
Squirrel Wood: And hellos ^^
Torley Linden: Aw Squirrel, info please? I can let our Governance Team know...
Rockstar Metropolitan: WL runs quite well on my PC with a7900GS
Alexa Linden: yes please
Alexa Linden: what sims?
Amadeo Beaumont: hmm well the water is pretty I wouldn't mind being pushed into it anymore
Natalia Zelmanov: lol Lyndsey :P
matika Wombat: the grief attack suppose to start at 2
Squirrel Wood: DoTheMario Republic just had to be removed from the furnation sims
Troy Childs: aww no a intel. lol
Torley Linden: I really, really recommend dual hard-drives, fast hard drives, to record videos... I know some have luck with less, but I'm pretty demanding. ^_^
Torley Linden: Glad to hear it, Rockstar!
matika Wombat: I have a notecard if you want it that says what they are up to
Troy Childs: i prmised my self i never get a intel
Troy Childs: lol
Lyndsey Forager: the water looks good enough to drink
Torley Linden: Hard drives sure have fell a lot in price.
Torley Linden: Troy: My last computer was an Opteron 170 (AMD), but tech changes a lot in time.
Rockstar Metropolitan: I wish I could say the same thing about my mac :(
Daedalus Young: I made the water look like ice, but the frustrating bit is I couldn't walk on it!
Rockstar Metropolitan: Then again it's a laptop
Torley Linden: The Q6600 is a great bang-for-the-buck... SL doesn't yet take advantage of all the multithreading, BUT... you can easily run SL alongside other heavy apps like Photoshop.
Torley Linden: Hahaha Daed, I have an icelike preset too; I would feel the same sensory discombulation!
Troy Childs: im shooting for a AMD Althon 64 x2 5000+ or something to fit in my budget thats AMD
Torley Linden: Glad to have all of you here with me today. :)
Troy Childs: AMD fan. lol
Alexa Linden: I'll go check out furnation Squirrel
Torley Linden: Ahhh.
matika Wombat: yeah I been meaning to make it for a year now,,
Torley Linden: Ah... yeah, depends on your priorities re: what you get in a computer.
Ryder Dryke: can someone tell me where that raid-warning-notecard came from that is passed around?
Torley Linden: I always like to state what I intend to use my machine for, to give people a better idea of context.
waelya Tenk: i am sure papa noel give me a new pc . )
matika Wombat: Angel Fluffy made it
Torley Linden: Ryder, I haven't seen it... some of those arouse fears and are groundless... but our Governance Team has likely already seen it...
Troy Childs: but CPU not everything. your video card(s) maybe what ill get
Troy Childs: lol
Ryder Dryke: is there a warning-group?
Amadeo Beaumont: hmm don't think I got it...
Torley Linden: Hehe, "Papa Noel"!
Lyndsey Forager: Santa baby, slip a pc under the tree, for me
Amadeo Beaumont: torley papa noel..father christmas santa clause
waelya Tenk: realy i need... iuse the minimum for use SL
matika Wombat: all I did was turn no build and no scripts in my iland,, good enough, not gonna worry too much about it
Torley Linden: I know Angel has been vigilant about helping me improve things like the Issue Tracker before.
Torley Linden: Yup, SAINT FREAKIN' NICK!
Amadeo Beaumont: :p
waelya Tenk: hehe
Ryder Dryke: hope so torlay - last time i saw seomthing like that the whole dreamland was infected with griefing objects :(
waelya Tenk: yes.. my land too yesterday... Enus Linden help me...
Torley Linden: Yeah, the other day I was griefed by spinning Ninja Turtle cubes...
Amadeo Beaumont: O.o
Troy Childs: Saint nick bene chip with me. stole my saveings. (really mean my dad.lol )
Amadeo Beaumont: is it increasing?
Torley Linden: I let the GTeam know about it right away...
matika Wombat: That's because you are special Torley :D
Torley Linden: Well, I haven't personally been griefed in a long time.
waelya Tenk: i dont undersatnd this ppl that do things bad
Torley Linden: It happens to me every now and then, and I don't know if that type of abuse is increasing BUT Governance Team does have regular office hours, you could ask them.
Amadeo Beaumont: hmm no just wondering..heard of some recently as well
Amadeo Beaumont: don't get who would spend their time on it tho...
lufpleh Obstreperous thinks Torley must be out world more if he's getting griefed less, griefings the same
Torley Linden: Sometimes it may seem like things increase in frequency but taking statistics over time may show what's really happening...
Torley Linden: lufpleh: Heh, I want to explore inworld more ALWAYS but time, time... is so hard to come by!
Lester Partch: anyone know what file type I need to upload for gestures?
Squirrel Wood: there was plenty of animation permission dialog spam griefings yesterday
Torley Linden: When I'm not inworld I'm usually writing something up, like bug repros, documentation, doing a Tip of the Week, email, etc.
Torley Linden: Lester: BVH!
lufpleh Obstreperous: lol and your getting busy busy busy!! lol
matika Wombat: yeah and just moved too :) congrats
Torley Linden: Thanx! Always so much going on... never gets boring, that is for sure.
waelya Tenk: : )
Lester Partch: bvh? never heard of it
Amadeo Beaumont: uhm a question that I didn't get answered last time
lufpleh Obstreperous: mmm boring SL is defintley not
Torley Linden: Lester: It's compatible with Poser and some other apps...
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: Lester, you may wanna see http://www.avimator.com/ too, it's free and exports BVH.
DJ Jenns: Hi all
Lyndsey Forager: sl is ALWAYS what you make it - you can be busy and you can be bored
Ryder Dryke moves a little closer to amadeo :))
Torley Linden: Heya DJ!
Amadeo Beaumont: What should you do if inventory disappears and does not return?
Lester Partch: THE AUDIO :)
matika Wombat: hi DJ
DJ Jenns: Hi Torley, when's windlight coming out :p
Lyndsey Forager: lololool
Torley Linden: Good way to put it, Lyndsey, when people go "What is there to do?" and meanwhile all this activity is happening!
Torley Linden: Hahaha DJ!
matika Wombat: Laughing Out Loud
Amadeo Beaumont gently brushes his fingers through ry's hair
DJ Jenns: so worth the wait !
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/15239
Ryder Dryke: :->
Torley Linden: Oh my gosh, I am so happy I was asked that many times, but even happier I get new questions now!!!!
Torley Linden: :D
DJ Jenns: ooooh Bridie linden!
Troy Childs: Winfdlioght Fristlook it out now
Torley Linden: Crackin' me up heeeere.
matika Wombat: ok all this talk about WL I will have to go home and try it tonight
DJ Jenns laughs
Lyndsey Forager: ?ing windlight

Amadeo Beaumont: >.>
Lyndsey Forager: yum yum bridie is tasty
Torley Linden: I plan to be at most of those meetings.
DJ Jenns: certainly is lol
Ryder Dryke: i was overwhelmed with the new lights this week
Amadeo Beaumont: mmm yes ...food
Torley Linden: AKA WindLight Office Hours.
matika Wombat: ha,, we shall see if I remember, lol,, took me a year to remember in time for this one meeting
DJ Jenns: so torley what can we pester you for now ?

Lyndsey Forager: he he
DJ Jenns: vr 3d headset support lol
Lyndsey Forager: your not going to be a griefer are you lololol
Daedalus Young: better trees
Amadeo Beaumont waves his arm around and wants and answer to a question
Torley Linden: Haha... well let's see what else I'm involved with... Dazzle... helping Search Team with communication stuff...
Torley Linden: the next WindLight phase I'm involved with, too.
Bridie Linden: RCs too
Lyndsey Forager: ohhhhh windlight phase 2?
Torley Linden: I guess the next questions will be "When will WindLight be a part of the main viewer!???"
DJ Jenns: You mean windlight can get even better?
Torley Linden: Yeah, Phase 2... to make skies & water share-able inventory...
Troy Childs: you do allot Torley
Troy Childs: lol
Torley Linden: and um, server-side settings.
Abdullah Freeman: 2043.
lufpleh Obstreperous: How do you think the Windlight release to First Look has gone
Torley Linden: I try Troy, thanks for noticing!
Abdullah Freeman: =p
Bridie Linden: Torley doesn't sleep :)
Daedalus Young: oh, I'd like to see weather effects for WindLight
Daedalus Young: like rain
Squirrel Wood: We need cutouts of Lindens that we can put up in sims to scare griefers away ;)
Daedalus Young: and thunder sounds
Lyndsey Forager: lolol
Troy Childs: i have and you stay so cheerful about the job i notice when you talk on the videos. lol
Bridie Linden: yes Squirrel
Torley Linden: lufpleh: Overall, a lot better than we hoped... a lot less known issues reported after, and most of the ones that did come up, we knew about... our Quality Assurance really rocked it too... we had a more systematic way of doing it this time, than the first round (in May-June).
Torley Linden: Troy: That's because I love my job!
Daedalus Young: with a text above them: "I'm no cutout, I'm an Impostor!"
Lyndsey Forager: haha dead
Troy Childs: Wish Linden Labs Gave me the time of day. i was trying to get a jobs. lol
Bridie Linden: lol
DJ Jenns: brb off to flirt with Bridie
Torley Linden: And yeah, weather is hoped for in a future phase, as are rainbows, shooting stars, and various other astral phenomena — those haven't been worked on yet but I certainly know we'll be asked about those LOTS.
DJ Jenns: lmfao
Torley Linden: Troy, did you go to apply through the Linden Lab website?
DJ Jenns: hi there... come here often ?
Daedalus Young: ooh, that's cool Torley
Troy Childs: yep
Troy Childs: no reply
Lyndsey Forager: lololololol
lufpleh Obstreperous: lol, had to be better than May/June, that was an awesome srelease but....
Torley Linden: We do eventually hope for better Linden trees too...
Daedalus Young: I saw that on a wiki page
Troy Childs: its been almost a year
Troy Childs: lol
Bridie Linden blushes
Amadeo Beaumont: shit..grief attack thingy ...>.<
Torley Linden: WindLight has this tendency to make stuff look better, but also expose flaws in some content.
Torley Linden: Rats, where Amadeo?
DJ Jenns: Torley - when will lolcats be integrated fully into SL ?
Amadeo Beaumont: they are just preparing sims against grief attack
Torley Linden: Hahaha lolcats, they crack me up...
DJ Jenns: Can I Has Biscuit?
Lyndsey Forager: i dont think bridie wanted to flirt back jenns
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
Amadeo Beaumont: not sure what that translates into
Torley Linden: I gotta tell ya, sometimes @ Linden Lab in our internal Issue Tracker...
Amadeo Beaumont: or well: major grief attack
Torley Linden: we get lolcats posted on the daily notice.
Torley Linden: "IM IN UR..." etc.
Abdullah Freeman: Yeah!! I made it back. Silly WindLight.

Amadeo Beaumont: lyndsay...damn you busted us now you must die XD
Torley Linden: Hmmm...
Troy Childs: waaa 4 FPS. but gee could of been worse without Avatar Impostors setting
Daedalus Young: lots of rezzing issues lately, it seems
Torley Linden: *tries to change group tags too*
Torley Linden: OH, by the way...
Lyndsey Forager: ha ha ha ha
Torley Linden: Avatar Impostors is linked with the Avatars (Mesh Detail) slider...
Vixens Populated Male AO: Couldn't find animation Champion!
Vixens Populated Male AO: Couldn't find animation Champion!
Lyndsey Forager: my fps is 9 whoop whoop
Torley Linden: so if you move that slider to the left, Impostors will take effect at nearer distances.
Daedalus Young: I noticed that yes
McPhenius Swain: hoot
McPhenius Swain: 12 for me
Daedalus Young: is cool
Amadeo Beaumont: btw is it normal that invent go missing for nearly a week and then returns..?
lufpleh Obstreperous: The TAG bug is a killer
Daedalus Young: about 4 fps with Impostors and 2.5 without
Troy Childs: this pc of mine is weird. just jumped up to 5.7 FPS
Torley Linden: Oh yeah, our Support peeps are on the griefers too, I see buzz that they're working on it.
matika Wombat: once I lost 30k worth of textures, when I thought 30k was a lot of them to loose,, they came back a few days later,, now I have well I don't know how many textures no more
Daedalus Young: and av detail set to medium
DJ Jenns: torley these arent anywhere near as nice as yours but.... here
DJ Jenns: lol
Lyndsey Forager gave you Pudsey bear (wear me).
Amadeo Beaumont: matika...O.o
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
Torley Linden: Whoa, musical chair-things...
Amadeo Beaumont: mine was now just missing for a week and I was like shit..ok lost them, move on
Torley Linden: *looks*
Lyndsey Forager: ohhh did we loose a torley?
Amadeo Beaumont: and suddenly they returned...
matika Wombat: what can I say, I love textures
matika Wombat: Is Torleys fault Laughing Out Loud
McPhenius Swain: did the music stop, I got left standing
Torley Linden: I gotta sort my inventory out again, prolly this weekend.
Torley Linden: I love textures too, I'm glad you could make it here too, matika!
DJ Jenns gave you Snapshot : Tribute Island Memorial Park, Tribute Island (177, 2.
matika Wombat: :)
matika Wombat: I have teached a ton with your textures Torley
Amadeo Beaumont: ...I think I have like 3000 textures or more
matika Wombat: everyone loves them
Torley Linden: Hmmm... there seems to be a bug... if I click "Keep" when a texture hasn't loaded yet and shows Dimensions of "0 x 0", it overwrites it...
Torley Linden: *makes a note*
Torley Linden: Awww glad to hear that matika!
DJ Jenns gave you Snapshot : Havens Paradise Public Beach Res, Havens Paradise (2.
Daedalus Young: oh here it is: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Render_Roadmap

Daedalus Young: next thing to look out for
Lyndsey Forager: thats wierd, last time i looked at bridie she had colour - now she is a grey person
Amadeo Beaumont: and second question, trie dto ask earlier, what to do if invent go missing and DONT return at all?
Torley Linden: May be texture loading problems here...
DJ Jenns: sl's just been a bit silly this past few hours
DJ Jenns: was fine earlier today
DJ Jenns: i think i broke it with my party lol
Lyndsey Forager: ha ha
DJ Jenns: :-s sorry about that
Lyndsey Forager: so long as you dont break the Italian Alps
Torley Linden: Ah, pictures loaded, nice stuff DJ!
Lyndsey Forager: he he
Torley Linden: Amadeo, depends on the cause. There are many causes, but if you're on a Premium account, you can try asking Support for help if you've tried the steps here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_Loss
Abdullah Freeman: The reason I came here today was because my main account, Seth Mandelbrot, is locked. I'm not sure if you're really who to talk to; I sort of think of you as the most accessible Linden, though I have to imagine you're ridiculously busy these days.
DJ Jenns: 10 print "welcome to second life"
Abdullah Freeman: Linden Lab sent me an email telling me my account was deactivated since I might be a minor. I cannot imagine there is any evidence of this, as I am not. To make sure there wasn't confusion, I state that I am over 18 in my profile. I would think that the prima facie case might be made by the university email account they sent the message to. In any event, I've filed a support ticket with a scan of my driver's license.
Abdullah Freeman: I was hoping you could help me make sure I'd be back to having fun in SL in my avatar as soon as possible.
DJ Jenns: 20 print "Second Life appears to have crashed"
DJ Jenns: 30 goto 20
DJ Jenns: run
Troy Childs: they must of done allot of changes from the last old Windlight fristlook. i never used to lag as much as i do now when its enabled. most be more loaded down
lufpleh Obstreperous: mmm, Avatar imposters makes av's disapear, really sppeds up SL :)
Torley Linden: Abdullah: Sorry, I'm not the right Linden for that (as detailed in my profile)... I'd recommend asking Support about that, via http://secondlife.com/support and I hope it goes well for you.
Amadeo Beaumont: torley I havn't lost anything permanently yet but lots of people i know hav elost stuff for like 10 k and all they get as a response is clear your cache
Amadeo Beaumont: and that doesn't help
DJ Jenns: lolol
Torley Linden: lufpleh: It shouldn't make them disappear... if it does, that's a bug.
Torley Linden: It should make them render faster, like "billboard sprites".
Torley Linden: If anyone wonders what I work on and can/can't help with, I recommend seeing: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden =)
Abdullah Freeman: Is there no one that will actually _talk_ to me and help me?
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
Daedalus Young: only in wireframe Impostors disappear
Lyndsey Forager: i knew someone who thought they lost a rather expensive bed - but they picked it up with other items and it got bundled uner another name
lufpleh Obstreperous: craqp graphic card bug I think :(
DJ Jenns: I bet the issues tonight - are because someones making toast on the servers again
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: Oh, that's "coalesced objects", sounds like. I really think those are confusing to use...
matika Wombat: Abdullah have you done the age verification deal??
Torley Linden: we did have an improvement where coalesced objects (I prefer calling them "combined") now have a different, multi-cube icon in inventory.
Torley Linden: But I still wish they were easier to use...
Abdullah Freeman: matika: I have not. I was not aware I had to to access the grid. I have now sent a scan of my driver's license, as LL requested.
Lyndsey Forager: yay! all my grey ppl have colour now!
Troy Childs: oh i gotta ask people that wears allot of attach prims. when teleportings some im sure has had there attachtments go between there legs. when i frist joined that never happend. now its beeen here forever. whens that gonna stop its anoyying. lol
Sword Rotaru: hey torley
Torley Linden: Abdullah: Thanks for already sending that; once it's checked out, your other account should be cleared.
DJ Jenns: yay for id verification or whatever it is because i actually have a passport now !
DJ Jenns: lol
Amadeo Beaumont: heh yeah my hair tail and ears tend to attach to my crotch after tp sometimes
Amadeo Beaumont: -.-
Torley Linden: Troy, known issue on the Issue Tracker...
lufpleh Obstreperous: prims up bums has been here forever, its an SL standing jke!! lol
Torley Linden: that's the "attachments in bug" longtime trouble.
Abdullah Freeman: Yay for getting locked out of your account based on secret, false accusations without warning!
Adz Childs: Torley it looks like this could happen to anyone.. i have the same level of information on file as Seth does. what exactly causes LL to suddenly suspect someone is underage if the person has payment on file and all his ducks in a row?
Lyndsey Forager: lol, there letting you out of the country jenns!
Torley Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-374
matika Wombat: well then they will get it straight I am sure,, if you go to the website there is an age verification link, I never have done it, but if I am asked, I will do
DJ Jenns: lol abdullah
DJ Jenns: welcome to second life :D
Torley Linden: Adz: I'd check with Governance Team's office hours for more info on that, it's not my area, sorry.
DJ Jenns: its the second life equivelant of account abu gharib ;)
DJ Jenns: lol
waelya Tenk: ops sorry total crash : )
Amadeo Beaumont: O.o that's just weird
Torley Linden: One obvious thing is, when someone shouts out in chat that they're underage. :p This has happened before!
Amadeo Beaumont: checking age if they have verification
Amadeo Beaumont: it can be a joke
Torley Linden: Not a funny thing to joke about at all.
lufpleh Obstreperous shouts: I'm underage!!!
Amadeo Beaumont: and underage varies...sex age for some european countries are 16, while inus it is 20
Torley Linden: *sighs*
DJ Jenns: but tbh its like rl say when we buy cigarettes or alcohol
Troy Childs: i got whit with that too once abdullah when i frist joind. a linden baned me for a day cuz someone said i said that or whatever. never asked my side of the story just wack. lol hasnt happen sence
Troy Childs: lol
Troy Childs: that was almost 2 years ago
DJ Jenns: if there is the slightest uncertainty of your age your asked to prove it
Adz Childs: .
Amadeo Beaumont: US
matika Wombat: Torley,, a question about Alt accounts, if you know.. A while back they allowed people to get a second account if they pay $10, I did then to have a back up of my files and folders,, are those alts still legal? I see in the police thingie on the website that they suspend people for having Alt accounts, well for a period of time that is
Abdullah Freeman: I have never claimed to be an SL underager in chat. I would like to see where something otherwise has occurred, but I certainly do not get to see _why_ I have been locked out of my account.
Lyndsey Forager: the age to buy tobacco products in scotland just rose from 16 to 18
Amadeo Beaumont: think it went up in all of england actually
Torley Linden: matika: Show me the specific police blotter incident?
Amadeo Beaumont: and uk
Lyndsey Forager: well, i live in scotland and it went up here
Lyndsey Forager: lolol
matika Wombat: I don't have one but I read it from time to time,, let me go and read and see if I can find another one similar to this
DJ Jenns: I think the bans were for those making alt accounts without the $10
Amadeo Beaumont: Oo
Torley Linden: matika: It may have referred to alt *abuse* where, for example, someone griefs, then is banned. They come back on an alt and grief some more.
Amadeo Beaumont: why?
McPhenius Swain: Governance does Mon-Fri office hours... Office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 am to 11 am, Governor Linden, Governance Team Office, Kremer (164, 134, 28)
Amadeo Beaumont: ahh ok
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: Thanks McPhenius!
Likmai Woodget: Well, nice to see everyone!! Take care all!
Amadeo Beaumont: but isn't it easier to ban their ..ehh compuer idn code or whatever
Torley Linden: Nice to see you too Likmai!
DJ Jenns: I remember my first id
DJ Jenns: back in the day
matika Wombat: oh ok
Likmai Woodget: :D
Torley Linden: Amadeo: That can be done, but there are ways to circumvent it...
Torley Linden: it's a discussion I've heard many times before.
Amadeo Beaumont: ok
DJ Jenns: little Ardentua wandering around ahern...
Troy Childs: easy to change MAC Address, IP address. wouldnt help
Lyndsey Forager: i here there is an election for a president for sl - it must be true - it was in the avastar lolol
lufpleh Obstreperous: think you have to pay if you want to "link" the accounts, you can have as many free unlinked Alt accounts as you want
Torley Linden: Not my particular area @ LL but again, I'd encourage asking Governance Team since that's their providence.
matika Wombat: Well thanks all,, School just called and I have to go pick up my girl due to some issues.. Thank You Torley :) this was fun,, hugs
Torley Linden: Awww you're welcome matika, take care and hope your girl is alright!
Adz Childs: Adbullah it looks like you're going to be locked out without explanation for at least the weekend.
Abdullah Freeman: I'm sorry if I seem like I'm wanting to cause trouble. I am merely upset that my fun has been interrupted with no promise of it being restored. In fact, I am even offended, not only at the implication I am a liar but at in the email being called a resident. For a video game, this is merely irratating. But to use the community/nation analogy, this is abhorrant.
Abdullah Freeman: Even when and if I am unlocked, I will be given no explanation.
Adz Childs: if you ever want to greif someone... looks like a good way is to make up a false AR claiming they are underage, huh?
Troy Childs: they need some real laws here ask both partys the story. no proof then dont ban the person. lol
Abdullah Freeman: I feel more and more like a second-class member.
DJ Jenns: quite
DJ Jenns: now shine my shoes !
Troy Childs: like tossing someone in jail on no evedince. lol
DJ Jenns: lol
Torley Linden: Abdullah, I can see why you're frustrated, but I'm sorry I can't help you further with this, it's simply not the right place and I'm not the right person to ask. I do hope you hear back from Support soon based on what you said earlier.
DJ Jenns: Torley: you could make a song about it
Troy Childs: sing for us! lol
DJ Jenns: oh wait there already is one... by Justin Timberlake
Daedalus Young: yes, it should be the other way round, if you can't proove your age, -then- you get locked. Innocent until proven underage
DJ Jenns: Cry me a river....
Troy Childs: lol
Lyndsey Forager: woahhh
DJ Jenns: oooh
Torley Linden: :O
DJ Jenns: controversial
Abdullah Freeman: The right to see evidence and confron one's accusers is a cornerstone of a fair legal system. Signing onto a video game needs no such thing, but SL is not talked of that way.
DJ Jenns: Abdullah
DJ Jenns: how many times
DJ Jenns: Torley really cant help you with that
Torley Linden: However, Linden Lab does have to abide by "RL" laws.
Torley Linden: There've been past discussions and info about this on http://blog.secondlife.com too if you wish to look.
Abdullah Freeman: I am not breaking any real life laws by signing on SL.
Abdullah Freeman: Nor am I breaking SL TOS.
Jason Swain points out that SL is a platform and not just a "video game"
lufpleh Obstreperous: gilty till proven innocent, gauntanmo comes to SL!!
Abdullah Freeman: I'm not doing anything.
Lyndsey Forager: Abdullah - you are ruining office hour for the rest of us
Amadeo Beaumont: lyndsey be nice
DJ Jenns: awww your quality time with torley - ruined!
DJ Jenns: lol lyndsey
Amadeo Beaumont: O.o
Troy Childs: i think when it comes to how SL is i think real laws are needed. under age issues. Linden is basicly real money. and so are abuse. so why not real laws?
Lyndsey Forager: shurrrrup
Lyndsey Forager: lololol
Torley Linden: Again, I apologize I can't help further, but feel free to ask me about something I *can* help you with, that I'm always happy to. :)
Abdullah Freeman: As soon as I start to feel like a first-class member again, there is some blog post about ageplay and everyone starts giving me weird looks again.
Tycho Beresford: What are the chances for being able to make a single-arm tattoo?
Troy Childs: no evedince againts the prep then dont ban i say. lol
Lyndsey Forager: if you want to be 1st class - i can give you a 1st class stamp ?
Marianne McCann: My, did't I pick a good time to TP in?
Torley Linden: Tycho, ohh that would fall under avatar mesh improvements... maybe someday.
Marianne McCann laughs
DJ Jenns: lololol
DJ Jenns: Marianne
lufpleh Obstreperous: next Windlight update, any ideas when thats due
Torley Linden: I know how WindLight is starting to show where other areas need to be improved, e.g., terrain detail, avatar complexity, etc.
Torley Linden: lufpleh: Yes, we plan to do new WindLight updates pretty quickly, once a week.
Daedalus Young: SpeedTree
Bridie Linden nods
Abdullah Freeman: That you did, Marianna. (It's Seth Mandelbrot.)
Amadeo Beaumont: sorry guy sgotta run now...some parcel issues I gotta fix
Marianne McCann: Tycho - I;d love to see dat happen, not so much for tattoos, but clothing sleeves
Torley Linden: Get new fixes rolled in fast, then move onto the next ones.
lufpleh Obstreperous: jezz, thats fast
Amadeo Beaumont: thank for the help torley
Ryder Dryke: bye ama
Torley Linden: You're welcome Amadeo!
DJ Jenns: Torley any cool new tricks you have for the windlight client ?
Torley Linden: Our goal here is to evolve WindLight quickly and get it ready for inclusion in the main viewer.
lufpleh Obstreperous: you must be working ovetime on the Jira correlting the bugs comeing in
Troy Childs: i also hate when i tp the cilent has to wipe all my attacments and have to reload them. lol stressful on a basic old system
Torley Linden: Yes, DJ, of course! There are some handy Debug settings...
Torley Linden: here, try this...
Torley Linden: Client menu > Debug Settings and set "RenderGlowMinLuminance" to 0... ;)
Torley Linden: The whole scene will appear a lot softer.
Marianne McCann: I wish it did't crash me so much
Squirrel Wood: I had one issue today with the windlight viewer where LOD would kick in way too soon and the avatar details would be reduced majorly with the camera just being 2-3m away from the avatar
Squirrel Wood: restarting SL fixed that one
Troy Childs: so far i gotta say my system good about not crashing. thats pretty rare. lol
DJ Jenns: damn
Rockstar Metropolitan: With WL, will we eventually see an improvment in avatar detail?
Adz Childs: Lyndsey, i didnt realize you were moderator. i sincerely hope that next time something bad happens to you and you try to get answers, the bystanders aren't nearly as rude as you are.
Torley Linden: We've isolated and fixed some of the crashes. Mari, if you have a repro on the Issue Tracker, by all means let me know and I'll get it to our devs ASAP.
Lyndsey Forager: i would quite like to see the red and green bar for packet loss
Daedalus Young: or set RenderFarClip higher to make cool landscapes: http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=227570
Lyndsey Forager: ohhhhh pretty torley!
Torley Linden: There IS a known crash, recently fixed, where... if you go into Mouselook WITHOUT shaders on and look around, you crash.
Torley Linden: Very very easy to repro.
DJ Jenns: Torley thats so nice - very HDR lighting styleeee
Marianne McCann: I will, Torley. So far nothing reproducable
Torley Linden: Rockstar: Maybe in the longer-term, but that isn't planned near.
Torley Linden: Glad you like the tip!
Abdullah Freeman: WindLight seems to work well for me (and with decent performance, even.) I haven't used it enough to see about stability.
Torley Linden: I also crash sometimes when trying to take snapshots in crowd scenes.
Abdullah Freeman uses the linux version.
Squirrel Wood: Kerry has some issues with windlight and his graphics card
Torley Linden: There are also some known ATI incompatibilities...
Jason Swain: I have noiced one or two bugs in windlight but its so fantastic, I am really pleased to see the render pipeline has been optimised, which results in alot better frame rates
Squirrel Wood: where prims disappear in certain circumstances
Troy Childs: i alwas disable names and use my computer snap and upload them later. i dont alwas use the SL snap feature. lol
lufpleh Obstreperous: Shaders immediatley crahses ATI cards with catylyst AI ON, any news on this or is it a driver issue
Torley Linden: Open WindLight issues - http://jira.secondlife.com/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?mode=hide&requestId=10970 :)
DJ Jenns: Ummm i appear to be on your head Tory
DJ Jenns: lol
DJ Jenns: Troy^
Lyndsey Forager: lololol
Torley Linden: Jason: I'm glad you noticed that, our devs took advantage of an opportunity to clean up old cruft.
Torley Linden: Nice balancing act!
Troy Childs: so get off. lol
Troy Childs: i dont need you farting on me. lol
Torley Linden: Or sometimes with Catalyst AI on, your colors will look banded, like an old 8-bit, 256-color video game.
DJ Jenns: lolol
Jason Swain: Squirrel, I believe that some ATI cards will show a shinny prim as transparent sometimes
Torley Linden: We're still investigating some variations of that.
Torley Linden: Jason: That's also had a fixed checked in internally...
Lyndsey Forager: lol, you havent smelt my dongs farts, now that IS bad
ZigZag Freenote: Anyone using a 8500 graphics card? Are those decent and stable?
Daedalus Young: 8 bit look goes well with Impostors though
Lyndsey Forager: ^dogs
Torley Linden: 8500 should be fine on an otherwise well-balanced system.
Torley Linden: HHAHAAH Daed!
Marianne McCann: Will there be aby improvements to how those old tress look in WL? I've noticed they sometimes take on a very "flat pane" look
ZigZag Freenote: thx
Jason Swain: Thats fantastic Torley ^^
DJ Jenns: 8800gt after new year <3
Torley Linden: If you want a good power/price card, Runitai Linden recommends the 8800GT.
lufpleh Obstreperous still thinks the Windlight viewer is pretty awesome even with low settings and shaders off
Torley Linden: Nice to hear that's what you want, DJ.
Torley Linden: Thanks lufpleh!
Daedalus Young: it would be fun to be able to switch to isometric view
Torley Linden: Mari: Eventually we will want to replace those old trees.
Lyndsey Forager: hey zig zag - cool name!
ZigZag Freenote: yeah, power ... don't want to change the power supply, lol
Torley Linden: WindLight is bringing out the flaws in them.
DJ Jenns: best compromise between price and performance plus i need something meatier to handle call of duty 4
Daedalus Young: SpeedTree!
Tycho Beresford is getting an 8800GT for Christmas whether Santa brings one or not
DJ Jenns: which by the way is just the best...game...evarrr!
McPhenius Swain: Xbox 360 handles CoD4 for me ;)
Marianne McCann: Yqa. It tends to bring out the issues with them, an with land textures, but know know dat already
waelya Tenk: me too!! i write! 8800 GT!
Torley Linden: :D
McPhenius Swain: Flaws will happen, it's evolving, main thing "WOW" to Windlight
Troy Childs: even with avatar impostors in large people area my system till drags but not as bad so im a little happy. hope to replace my other video card. went out. had to drop back to my Nvidia GeFroce FX 5200
Squirrel Wood: check out Crysis for sum rlly OSSM foliage
Torley Linden: Yup Mari, and land textures and textures in general looking too bleached out at times of the day, we could adjust balance better...
Torley Linden: YES CRYSIS LOOKS SO OSSM.
DJ Jenns: pffft crysis needs a computer the size of a bloody fishtank to run it
DJ Jenns: lolol
Squirrel Wood: terrain textures should be allowed to be of higher resolution
Torley Linden: Troy, move Avatar Mesh Detail all the way to the left.
Squirrel Wood: for more detailed grounds
Torley Linden: And see if you notice a sizeable improvement.
Jason Swain wonders how he will fit a 8800GT into his VAIO laptop? lol
Troy Childs: already there
Torley Linden: OK...
Rockstar Metropolitan: Crysis: Something your current PC might have if you try to run it
Troy Childs: all settings are down
Daedalus Young: just fill one of those old 1970's computers with modern technology
Rockstar Metropolitan: lol
Marianne McCann: That's a thought. Some way of adjusting the overall intensity or something. Would help with the bleached out faced issue, too
Torley Linden: Sometimes when things lag too badly, I just zoom my camera into the ground.
Sword Rotaru: hey torley can I ask you a question?
DJ Jenns: no but if its a new one Jason you might be able to upgrade the internal card
Torley Linden: Eventually though, estates can have their own WindLight settings...
Torley Linden: so some peeps can deliberately bleach their views if they want to.
Torley Linden: And others can have more moderate happiness.
Troy Childs: sl just hates me ill have to acct ittill i get a system that makes it to scared to act slow on me
Al Sonic: Ah I think I saw my brother enjoying a well-running test of Crysis on his new laptop actually.
Lyndsey Forager: he he - will we get torley skies here?
Torley Linden: We DO want a well-balanced default day cycle for the mainland and anyone else who doesn't intend to tweak as such, tho.
Torley Linden: HAHAHA well I haven't heard of parcel-level controls in the plan, but I would fancy that over all of Grasmere, yeah...
Torley Linden: not sure my neighbors would agree. ;)
Al Sonic: Hehehe!
Lyndsey Forager: im sure they would learn to love it torley
Abdullah Freeman: We don't even have mountains near here. How are we supposed to ski with Torley skies?
lufpleh Obstreperous: in Preferances you have a slider Terrian, imediatley below are the option buttons Terrian High/Low, whats the differance, got to add confusion
waelya Tenk: hehe
Torley Linden: It sounds like most of you have already tried WindLight? Who hasn't?
McPhenius Swain: I haven't yet
Torley Linden: And I should emphasize, thanks for trying WL!
Torley Linden: :)
Abdullah Freeman: I only tried it for a few minutes.
ZigZag Freenote: me neither
McPhenius Swain: But I will be soon
Torley Linden: Our Team has been so giddy and off they go, squashing more bugs.
Daedalus Young: and an additional Year Cycle, so you have grey, snowy light in winter and colorful, sunny light in summer
Sword Rotaru: hey torley i've been having really bad bandwidth problems where my bandwidth goes from 200 to 0 over and over.
Dissen Terry: what is it?
waelya Tenk: me too for minutes.. only work the sky for me.. water no....
Lyndsey Forager: lolol, im tempter to uninstal the main client
Torley Linden: Daed: That would be epic... we do want to include more randomosity and variations between days, as well as scriptable skies.
Torley Linden: So like, maybe someone can touch a magic box and the whole sky turns BLOOD RED OMG!
Ryder Dryke misses the lag-o-meter in the WL client
Torley Linden: Or whatever else.
Torley Linden: Ryder, it's under Help menu.
Troy Childs: lol
Torley Linden: Help menu > Lag Meter. :)
Ryder Dryke: ah :)
Ryder Dryke: thanks
Daedalus Young: speaking of snow... :|
Torley Linden: What about snow?
lufpleh Obstreperous: Ryder, its under menu bar > Help
Troy Childs: i do know the Sky adjuster will be great tool for hoilday partys like hallowen skys, thanks giving sence skys, and so on. lol
Abdullah Freeman: As I mentioned earlier, I used the linux WindLight (and standard) client. I am really glad and thankful that SL makes a more-than-token effort to support my platform.
Daedalus Young: it's snowing right herein Grasmere
Marianne McCann: Will sims be able to override personal settings at all? Jes so Midnight City stays midnight, or if a sim wanted to keep to some particular sky setting?
Ryder Dryke: thanks lufpleh
Torley Linden: Yup, Linden Lab cares about Open Source and we have ardent Linux supporters here... I'm not too familiar with Linux myself but I'm glad SL is cross-platform-friendly.
Lyndsey Forager: the only thing i really dont like, is in the main client, i tent to drop items on an avatars name tag not their body, its easier to catch! in WL i cant right click name tags
Torley Linden: I find the whole story of Linus Torvalds utterly amazing.
Troy Childs: not all well with linux. i tried it makes the whole system i tried it on reboot
Troy Childs: lol
Marianne McCann: Oh ya.. dat drives me nutso, Lyndsey. Good call,.
Lyndsey Forager: np mari
lufpleh Obstreperous: the name tag bug is known
Troy Childs: and it was pretty much the same specs as this system
Abdullah Freeman: Troy: it's alpha for more than one reason. I've never had major problems, though.
Troy Childs: i know what it is.
Torley Linden: Yeah, we wanna squish that "name tag" bug.
Al Sonic: Right now I'm finding the story of SL to be amazing, releasing all this code to open-source!
Torley Linden: And the "right-click on attachment and get (??)" isn't specific to WindLight, it's in 1.18.5 RC too.
Troy Childs: its been that way forever. not many working on it i guess
Torley Linden: New worlds demand new ways.
Lyndsey Forager: squish it, swat it!
Lyndsey Forager: he he
ZigZag Freenote: what about avatars shaking when seen in the distance, how known is that?
Troy Childs: or taking a long time
McPhenius Swain: if it's a ant, eat it :)
Ryder Dryke: can i ask a non-WL related question? :)
Torley Linden: ZigZag: I'd have to see a repro. Is Avatar Impostors on?
Abdullah Freeman: Speaking of name tags, I was having an issue where right-clicking the tag does not bring up the av pie menu.
Marianne McCann: Burn it with fire!
Torley Linden: Sure Ryder...
lufpleh Obstreperous: Name tag bugs a killer for for heavily primmed AV's
Ryder Dryke: there is only wav supported for sound?
Troy Childs: but then i dont plan to use SL on linux i was just woundering about it.
Torley Linden: For upload right now, Ryder? Yes...
Troy Childs: see how it ran
Ryder Dryke: i was thinking about midi
Daedalus Young: there are some nasty cubes nearby
lufpleh Obstreperous: Abdullah thats the bug were atlking about
Abdullah Freeman: I just realized that.
Daedalus Young: like at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Borrowdale/172/127/37
Marianne McCann shudders at the idea of MIDI enabled lands
Abdullah Freeman: I misread it the first time someone mentioned it.
Abdullah Freeman: Sorry.
Torley Linden: MIDI itself doesn't have sounds, it's kind of like a player piano roll...
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
lufpleh Obstreperous: np :)
Ryder Dryke: i mean midi used by scripts
ZigZag Freenote: sorry, no repro, and I don't know about impostors, I have 1.18.4 (3), are they in?
Torley Linden: and sound playback quality depends on the samples used to play it.
Ryder Dryke: yes torley
Abdullah Freeman: So we could have any number of headach-causing synths!
Abdullah Freeman: =p
Daedalus Young: it looks a bit like a griefing attack
Adz Childs: "what a melon"
Marianne McCann: Thankoo, Lyndsey
Adz Childs giggles
Torley Linden: ZigZag: Oh, I thought you might've been referring to WindLight. Hmmm... I'm not familiar with your issue, but if you do have a solid reproduction and maybe a video, I'd report it @ http://jira.secondlife.com , our public Issue Tracker
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
Torley Linden: Yes, this shirt, I'm really fond of.
Adz Childs: yeah its clever
Ryder Dryke: okay all around ... i need to leave .. see you sooon and take care!
lufpleh Obstreperous: Imposters only in First Look Windlight "Second Life 1.18.5 (73655) Nov 13 2007 12:57:54 (Second Life WindLight) "
ZigZag Freenote: well, if impostors take over, nobody will care about this buggy
Torley Linden: Thanks lufpleh, yup.
Torley Linden: Ryder, take care!
Ryder Dryke waves around :)
lufpleh Obstreperous: issues with imposters though!! :))
Adz Childs: See.. . i knew if i sat here long enough i'd be promoted to the Vice President chair!
Torley Linden: What sorta issues are you having, lufpleh?
Torley Linden: Haha Adz!
Torley Linden: It's kinda like a card game, without the cards.
Abdullah Freeman: I was there before WindLight crashed me!
lufpleh Obstreperous: could be my crap ATI card
Marianne McCann: Heck, I hardly ever get a seat, Adz
Abdullah Freeman scratches his head, ``I guess I've got a long way to go, now.
lufpleh Obstreperous: but if I turn Imposters on the AV disapears, all I see is the attachemnets and the AV name tag
Troy Childs: if you got the ATI card before AMD took the compant yeah its a craper. lol
Al Sonic: Funny, I'm having trouble getting the viewer to create anything that looks like an avatar imposter, even though I've seen what they look like in others' screenshots.
Troy Childs: *company
Adz Childs: HEhe the president gets to make up the rules for the next round of play, anyway
Torley Linden: BRB! Hugging wife.
Adz Childs grins proudly
Al Sonic tried moving the camera and Ctrl-0 zooming in.
Lyndsey Forager: Hello Ravi!
lufpleh Obstreperous: I know others, no on ATI cards are seeing similar, its to do with the distance the Imposter Av's start generating
lufpleh Obstreperous: *not
Al Sonic smiles.
Daedalus Young: oh, I like how the Client recognizes zoomed in looks
Daedalus Young: and how stuff is drawn around the camera, not the av
lufpleh Obstreperous: Daed, you can free your camera from your AV and Pan across a whole Sim
Lyndsey Forager: mairi - you lots your seat hun!
Torley Linden: Yayzerama that felt good.
Troy Childs sings "I feel pretty, All So Pretty, I feel Pretty and Witty and Furry! hehe"
Marianne McCann: Aww...
Torley Linden: Hehe Lyndsey I'll let her know you said hi!
Lyndsey Forager waves :)
Daedalus Young: yes, but previously, you would end up on empty looking land or no land at all
Torley Linden: lufpleh: Oh, what you mentioned earlier. Yes, I'll keep an eye out for that bug.
Marianne McCann: I tink I gots someone sittin on me
lufpleh Obstreperous: :)
Torley Linden: The distance you can camscan is dependent on draw distance too.
Daedalus Young: with WL that's no longer happening (mostly)
Abdullah Freeman: There's an open box, Mar'.
Lyndsey Forager: thats not good mairi - oweeee
Torley Linden: Thanks for bringing up these issues; I'm very appreciative, so we can improve WindLight.
lufpleh Obstreperous: Daed, increase your Draw distance, the land will then fill in ):
Torley Linden: And Second Life in general!
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/15240
Daedalus Young: I know, I know :P
Marianne McCann: How's Dazzle comin?
Abdullah Freeman: So we can all log in and have lots of fun?
Daedalus Young: I always do so in the Debug window
Daedalus Young: RenderFarClip
Squirrel Wood: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Viewer_Visual_Update
Jason Swain: I think that its great to see the client improving as much as the networking that is not so easily seen
Torley Linden: Yeah, and set RenderUseFarClip to "FALSE" too.
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
ZigZag Freenote: The large objects draw, but small ones don't, even with high draw distance
lufpleh Obstreperous: Torley, once a week updates to Windlight, is that not a bit rushed
Daedalus Young: but the downside is framerates of less than 1 fps, so I keep it at a normal distance for normal day to day use
Daedalus Young: I made http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=227570 with a farclip of several kilometers
Torley Linden: ZigZag: Oh, I think that has to do somewhat with how the interest list is populated... small objects don't get rendered until you walk closer to them.
ZigZag Freenote: it makes sense, of course
DJ Jenns: OMG
DJ Jenns: lol
Torley Linden: Wow, very scenesque, Daed.
Troy Childs: i get about 2 with windligh enabled. so ill trun it on for photo then off. lol
DJ Jenns: whos gesture was that !
Daedalus Young: thanks
Lyndsey Forager: i want that geture
Daedalus Young: I used to make landscapes before too, but they were so dull :P
Abdullah Freeman: lifpleh: LL takes care of important stuff fast, and apparently takes care of unimportant residents at their leisure.
Bridie Linden: Nice Daed
Lyndsey Forager: lol @ modfire
Daedalus Young: thanks :)
Modfire Milland: i cant see myself!
waelya Tenk: hehe
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Modfire Milland: am i all deformed?
Troy Childs: well due your eyes are in your skull. lol
Lyndsey Forager: no, your perfect - just watching trying to jump
Torley Linden: *looks over*
Modfire Milland: oh :D
Daedalus Young: for a dinosaur, you're looking just fine
waelya Tenk: yes haha
McPhenius Swain: Hia Wyn
DJ Jenns: :o
Modfire Milland: im a Dino?
Torley Linden: RAWR!
DJ Jenns: this was a triumph
Lyndsey Forager: who is playing "still alive" much coolness
DJ Jenns: im making a note here huge success
Modfire Milland: LOL
Squirrel Wood: ^^
DJ Jenns: its hard to overstate my satisfaction
Wyn Galbraith: I'm late!
DJ Jenns: lol
Lyndsey Forager: its hard to understate my satisfaction
Modfire Milland: its a Boy?!
Lyndsey Forager: lololol
Modfire Milland: lol your late!
DJ Jenns: KIRBY!!!!!!
Torley Linden: Hahaha, Pastrami Linden loves Kirby too.
Torley Linden: Fun avatars for sure.
Troy Childs: my pc weird with SL. frist i get 4 FPS now its hitting 8 FPS. lol
lufpleh Obstreperous: crashed, sorry :(
Troy Childs: for no reason
Wyn Galbraith: I'm so sorry, but we're having a friendly war between castles at Foyle Gully and I totally forgot, was throwing curses over the castle wall.
DJ Jenns: ahh kirby pinball back in the day on the gameboy
Torley Linden: Incidentally, Modfire, your taste in avatars is shared by BigPapi Linden.
Modfire Milland: w4 FPS!!
Torley Linden: Aww that's okay Wyn! Hahaha. Sounds like it was a colorful experience for those involved.
Daedalus Young: I was just thinking that too
McPhenius Swain: kicking 13 now... lucky me
Lyndsey Forager: was it big papi with the great hallowe'en outfit?
Modfire Milland: 19 FPS here
Daedalus Young: haha
Modfire Milland: :D
McPhenius Swain: I like Pathfinder's AV
Troy Childs: hell i be happy with a holding stable 15
Lyndsey Forager: fpt now @ 5.9
Modfire Milland: Ahhh
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: Yes, that's the same BigPapi. :D
Lyndsey Forager: ^fps even
ZigZag Freenote: 2.6, anyone wanna trade, lol?
Abdullah Freeman: And Torley's at 45?
ZigZag Freenote: I can barely type
Torley Linden: BEST HALLOWEEN OUTFIT EVAR!
Modfire Milland: OMG 2.6!!!!
Bridie Linden: I have to run! Have a great weekend all!
Torley Linden: No, I'm at 15. Why assume?
Torley Linden: ;)
Daedalus Young: bye Bridie!
DJ Jenns: Oh Torley guess what
Modfire Milland: 45 my ass!
lufpleh Obstreperous: mmm embaressed 2.5 fps

Torley Linden: Take care Bridie, have a fun we'ekend!
Jason Swain: See you Birdy
waelya Tenk: the fps?

Abdullah Freeman: I was trying to be playful. We were talking about your awesome system earlier.
DJ Jenns: Im off to italy in 3 weeks time - all thanks to SL
Torley Linden: =^_^=
Abdullah Freeman: =)
Sword Rotaru: im gonna go see you arounf torley
DJ Jenns: I got a job as a Resident DJ in a ski resort :-)
Torley Linden: OK Sword, have a good one!
lufpleh Obstreperous: / imagines an new stock exchange trading FPS!! lol
Troy Childs: every time i see his videos i cry cuz im poor. lol
Troy Childs: system getting old
waelya Tenk: where see the FPS?
Modfire Milland: all i see are Smelly butts
Troy Childs: lol
Torley Linden: Ewwww.
Modfire Milland: im small u see
Daedalus Young: yes
Marianne McCann: Eew! Gross!
Tycho Beresford: DJ I was reading about that in a blog today. Cool!
Al Sonic: One funny thing I noticed in Windlight is how I can actually set the water to invert the colors of what's under it... Hm, I should find a Windlight meeting to chat about this at.
Torley Linden: waelya, in Ctrl-Shift-1 — the Statistics Bar.
Modfire Milland: yes EEw!
lufpleh Obstreperous: Waelya, CTRL + SHIFT + 1
Abdullah Freeman: Press Ctrl-Shirt-1 to bring up a menu to see your FPS and other statistics.
DJ Jenns: you werr ?
waelya Tenk: ok thx!
Torley Linden: Al: Oh how did you do that? I've done some wacky water effects myself.
DJ Jenns: who's blog lol
Torley Linden: Ooh helpful folks!
Daedalus Young: yes, the Fresnel Offset
Daedalus Young: can do freaky things with that
Torley Linden: Al: And yeah, we have WindLight Team meetings twice weekly, times @ http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/WindLight
Tycho Beresford: DJ, yes, either a blog or SL news web site
Torley Linden: I made water that made like raw sewage!
Torley Linden: And another preset that looked like urine!
Torley Linden: Yes, it was gross!
DJ Jenns: ohhh cool ! :-)
Al Sonic: Set Fresnel Scale to around zero, Fresnel Offset to around 75, it works best there.
Troy Childs: eww i hate to live there
Troy Childs: lol
Squirrel Wood: one thing I noticed in windlight is that the framerate is a lot more constant
Torley Linden: I called it "You're in luck"... get it? OK, I'm not usually much for the scatalogical, but I cracked up.
waelya Tenk: pfff 3.2
Morph Wollongong: urine luck, lolz
Torley Linden: Yeah Squirrel? That's our aim... to have a more balanced experience.
Troy Childs: stupid pc keep droping to 2 then back to 7-8 FPS
Squirrel Wood: ^^
Lyndsey Forager: aqua vitae - lolol (league og gentelmen reference)
ZigZag Freenote: troy, try reducing the memory setting for GPU
ZigZag Freenote: it helped me
Troy Childs: cilent already on low everything
Morph Wollongong: heh, all of this makes my laptop cry like a baby
ZigZag Freenote: reduce memory from its max setting to one lower
Troy Childs: my system becoming prmitive and gee the system req on sl webpage lie. lol
Sword Rotaru: i'll see you around torley
Torley Linden: Take care Sword!
Al Sonic: And to think 'you're in luck' could have just meant clover bumpmapping...
Sword Rotaru: :D
Torley Linden: We did update the System Requirements + Recommendation some.
Torley Linden: I do like the normal mapping for water... you can add any texture to be the water surface.
Torley Linden: It's pretty freakin' hilarious.
Troy Childs: was too lazy to look but i seen they did on a a blog
ZigZag Freenote: yeah, Intel made it in
Morph Wollongong: watermelon water
Torley Linden: If you have a normal map that worked well in some other game, you can try it here.
Torley Linden: Yeah, I do have some watermelon presets I made.
Daedalus Young: it can do weird things with sparkly reflections though
Al Sonic: how redundant, Morph ;D
Daedalus Young: I had the Sun sparkles reflect to the East of where the sun was
DJ Jenns: right i have to go all :-) Call Of Duty 4 is calling me !
waelya Tenk: peace! no war!
Troy Childs: Torely how your FPS in crudes such as this? im woundering most of the videos you didnt have alwas allot around you that i notice much.
Torley Linden: Troy: Mine varies depending how far I zoom in/out, in part because of impostors.
Torley Linden: In crowd scenes with impostors effectively on, I generally get 10-20 FPS.
Troy Childs: yeah mine too but whats your avg?
Torley Linden: And by "crowd" I mean 20+ avatars.
Al Sonic: Thanks to inversion, I have a water preset that looks pink when you're under it, green when you're over it! And if you set it right you can see both colors at the same time.
Torley Linden: Avg right now, is about 15.
lufpleh Obstreperous: Troy, worth checkinking > Client > Rendering > Render Tests, there is a radomize option in there
Torley Linden: All sorts of handy things in that Client menu, eh?
Torley Linden: I keep discovering new goodies I never heard of before.
Troy Childs: oh god ship me your pc.
Troy Childs: lol
Torley Linden: Learn and teach so much here.
Abdullah Freeman: Yea! I'm the next after the Vice-President now. Third in succession!
Torley Linden: My PC isn't really all that special, it's pretty much generally-available parts.
Abdullah Freeman: Two quick assassinations and I'm ON!
Torley Linden: I used some very common components that were at a great price.
Troy Childs: im poor so not to me
Troy Childs: lol
Torley Linden: My computer *is* fairly high-end... but I went for it at a budget.
Squirrel Wood: It looks like round two of the griefings have started ;(
Tycho Beresford: Abdullah are you sure you want those headaches?
Abdullah Freeman: O
Abdullah Freeman: =p
Torley Linden: I don't believe in spending extraordinary price premiums for 10% performance increase, because in a few months, weeks even, something better comes along that rocks the market.
Troy Childs: im gonna ask a friend if i can help at a job sight for a week to get the money for parts
Torley Linden: Squirrel, thanks, our GTeam is still on 'em from the looks of it.
Torley Linden: I'm glad tech in general is coming down in prices too...
Torley Linden: hard drives have sure gotten cheap over the last few years.
Daedalus Young: they have
lufpleh Obstreperous: lol Squirel, sounds like the weekend is here :)
Jason Swain cant wait for the first M-RAM drives
Torley Linden: M-RAM? What's that?
Torley Linden: *eager to learn*
lufpleh Obstreperous: hard drives days are over, its going to be flash
Abdullah Freeman: Troy: I don't mean to be a jerk, but I'm already being enough of a jerk today, so I might point out that not being able to afford a nicer video card or more RAM so your online environment you connect to renders better does not qualify you as poor.
Al Sonic: Lately there's been more price decreasing in PCs, and less performance enhancing. Or that's the impression I have.
Jason Swain: Magnetic RAM its appears to be the furture for long term non-volitle data storage
Torley Linden: Haha, imagine how cheap that's gonna make hard drives then!
Troy Childs: i already made a new Wishlist. two 2045 Gbs Dual Channel SLI Ram Sticks, 2 SLI 512 MB Video Cards, 500Gb Hard Drive, Dual Core 3Ghz CPU.
Torley Linden: Oh, cool Jason, I wasn't familiar with the acronym.
Jason Swain: Its allows you to access data continuesly with out any seek time ^^
Daedalus Young: Magnetoresistive
Torley Linden: Amazing...
Torley Linden: I wonder how much of a performance gain that'd be.
Troy Childs: better then mine
Daedalus Young: they already had the basics in 1955!
Troy Childs: but hopeful i can gain US$1,042.50
lufpleh Obstreperous: Jason, are SD disks mag
Troy Childs: lol
Torley Linden: I read in the news recently about someone who put in a... oh, here's the link: http://www.ryanblock.com/2007/11/the-first-macbook-pro-with-a-64gb-ssd/
Lyndsey Forager: windlight is giving me lots of new joy to be in SL - i feel like xmas has come early!
Troy Childs: i also put in a case and a 22' Wide Screen
Jason Swain: SD are normall Flash memory
Torley Linden: Aw I'm so happy to hear that Lyndsey! I'll be sure to let our WindLight Team know it.
Lyndsey Forager: ty Torley
Abdullah Freeman: 22 foot screen? What a deal!
Al Sonic: Does this mean any more or less resistive to erasing when you put a magnet on it? Hehe.
Torley Linden: I've got to head out and finish more work, but thanx SO much to each and all of you for being with me at my office hour!
Abdullah Freeman: Sorry, I should better focus my abundant negativity.
lufpleh Obstreperous: I have heard flash drives are the next thing not mag
Adz Childs: Thanks Torley!
Tycho Beresford: Thank you Torley
Lyndsey Forager: huggerz Torley
Daedalus Young: thank you Torley
Abdullah Freeman: Take care, Torley!
Al Sonic: Bye!
Daedalus Young: see you later
Marianne McCann: Have fum, Torley... hope you remembrered to smile today!
Jason Swain: Thank you Torley, Have a great weekend ^^
waelya Tenk: bye torley! awesome how many can learn here!
lufpleh Obstreperous: nice to chat agian Torley :)
Wyn Galbraith: Thanks Torley.
Torley Linden: T'care all! Bye bye! *big smile* Have an ultra weekend too... and yes, it's been fun chatting! *waves*
