Torley Linden: Friendly greetings ! :D
Brunhilde Burt: friendly greetings ^^
Torley Linden: hehehe thanks
Imnotgoing Sideways: Konnichiwa <Hi> (^_^)
Rya Kjeller: vista or xp?
Jaymes Kjeller: Hey Torley!
Ewan Mureaux: hes on the mad character set again
Torley Linden: wow all the seats are filled, i may have to stand or sit on the melons in the center!
Stephen Posaner: and my grafics card is bare min that will run SL
Torley Linden: good to see you all here!
Ewan Mureaux: Hi Torley
Torley Linden: now that's preparation
Brunhilde Burt: lol
Torley Linden: hahahah
Kara Spengler: heyas Torley
Cube Republic: Hello Sir Torley :D
Stephen Posaner: it is in a laptop or i would upgrade
Torley Linden: what's cookin'? apart from my hat, that is
Harleen Gretzky: Hi Torley
Rya Kjeller: hello torley ;)))
Zev Gausman: Hi all
CeeJay Tigerpaw: Hi Torley.
Gellan Glenelg: hi torley
Stephen Posaner: hey torley
Torley Linden: i find it incredible how many laptops nowadays have the same or greater power of desktops from just a few years ago
Torley Linden: verily, we have come a far way
Rya Kjeller: yup ;)))
Cube Republic: yah but the heat ios a problem
Rya Kjeller: eee .... cant use it on lap any more ;)))))
Cube Republic: i could cook egg on my macbook even when just idling in sl
Imnotgoing Sideways: I'm on a lappie right now... I'm sorry... It will never touch my home PC. (=_=)
Torley Linden: yeah, macbooks get really hot
Torley Linden: i have a mbp myself
CeeJay Tigerpaw: I moved from an original original Mac II to a Macbook 13, for a home PC.
Cube Republic: nice for cs3
Cube Republic: cs4 looks rocking
Kara Spengler: iMac 24" ..... love it
Torley Linden: my first Mac was a Quadra 660AV
Torley Linden: oh those ones look awesome, Kara
CeeJay Tigerpaw: The latter had 1000 times as much memory, 1000 times as much disk storage, and probably 100 times as much processor power.
CeeJay Tigerpaw: But it wasn't enough, so I got a Mac Pro.
Imnotgoing Sideways: LULZ @ the boombox.... Pen? (o.o)
Torley Linden: i have a hard time using a monitor less than 1920x1200 nowadays, that's what being spoiled by extra real estate will do to you
Kara Spengler: the AV! centris 660av was the first I owned, but had been using for years before that
Torley Linden: hahaha
Cube Republic: yes widescreen is good
Torley Linden: Kara, i was so impressed by its multimedia capabilities at the time
Torley Linden: and yeah i have a boombox and scribble pad
Torley Linden: ROCK ON :D
Torley Linden: hahaha
Imnotgoing Sideways: Lawl ^-^
Kara Spengler: Torley: I still refuse to give it up because of all the ports it has
Torley Linden: does anyone have any questions about video tutorials or my work (Resident Education/Enlightenment)? i'd be happy to answer them, of course we can keep jumping from topic to topic
Kara Spengler: ok, so it hardly has the specs to be able to run 7.1 but ...
Cube Republic: i would like to mention a bug thats been annoying me for months
Cube Republic: plse
Torley Linden: what's the JIRA #, Cube?
Torley Linden: Kara, i remember i was able to run 7.1 fine way back :) on that 68040
Imnotgoing Sideways: I've seen bridges that need that cross-region prim fix you had on your video. (>_<)
Torley Linden: Imnotgoing, yeah, that's why i put it out there; and i know for those who don't need both sides to be extended/matched, there's the option of using a transparent prim as Vidal Tripsa nicely pointed out
Xida Young: do you know the possibility to stream youtube-video in sl through the rtsp protocoll ?
Imnotgoing Sideways: We gotta call back Gov Linden and put him to work fixing that stuff. (^_^)
Cube Republic: i dont know torley, its the one where prims will not allign, even with the math correct. I find where seamlessness is important im having to rez a fresh prim instead of simply drag-copy which is always the fastest way :)
Torley Linden: Xida: no i don't; i'm not sure if that's the same Apple TV/iPhone uses with YouTube, but i had a related discussion from Nikhil @ YouTube about that
Zev Gausman: Do you have planned a building course, Torley?
Torley Linden: Zev, i'd like to. i'd like to do a big "joy of building" one.
Ewan Mureaux: with a beard on?
Cube Republic: lkol
Cube Republic: #
Torley Linden: Xida: but actually since you mentioned it, if you have QuickTime/Darwin Streaming Server, you should be able to stream QuickTime that way.
Cube Republic: lol @ beard
Torley Linden: (stream QuickTime into Second Life, that is)
Imnotgoing Sideways: Someone on the forum offered a Youtube to Second Life™ service... I wish I could remember the link. (T_T)
Torley Linden: Cube, i would highly recommend searching http://jira.secondlife.com and also providing a solid, simple (as possible) reproduction to recreate the bug. that's very very important... i believe i've seen similar bugs to that before.
Torley Linden: Imnotgoing, yeah, several of them got named in my last Tip of the Week...
Torley Linden: YouTube has a lot of flakey inconsistency tho
Imnotgoing Sideways: Ooh. (^_^)
Torley Linden: so not all videos work reliably
Torley Linden: but still, better than nothing
Cube Republic: its actually a bit destressing when you have a massive build to do and it end up putting days on workflow if your a perfectionist
Torley Linden: the trick is in realizing that "high-quality" YouTube videos are in MP4 format, which is playable via QuickTime... not all vids have them but you can use those URLs
Gellan Glenelg: Cube: sounds like http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2567
Imnotgoing Sideways can't wait to see Flash on prim. (^_^)
Torley Linden: thanks Gellan!
Torley Linden: yeah Flash media in Second Life would be WICKED for so many things
Torley Linden: Flash is widely supported by 90%+ of web browsers
Gellan Glenelg: even has video repro, torley :)
Torley Linden: it's been harder to do than expected tho
Cube Republic: oh thats the one!
Torley Linden: Gellan, i should take a closer look then...
Xida Young: yes. the way is to go to http://m.youtube.com , then you can search a video you like, copy the adress and paste it in the sl settings. the pastet adress begins with rtsp:// this works
Imnotgoing Sideways: I'm still amazed video works at all. (^_^)
Torley Linden: Xida, thanks for mentioning that, not all vids are there but that's a good point!
Rya Kjeller: isnt that the mobile version of youtube?
Torley Linden: yes :)
Xida Young: yes.
Torley Linden: i don't think the 3GP ones are as good quality as the MP4 ones...
Torley Linden: but nonetheless, it's an option
Torley Linden: i'd rather have the options out there for people to experiment with, learn from, and improve upon
Torley Linden: (sorry can't answer IMs right now, am busy in the open :) )
Imnotgoing Sideways: Heh.... *floods Torley with notecards* (^_^)
Zev Gausman: Whaen is here a building course?
Zev Gausman: -a
Torley Linden: Zev, oh, there's been earlier discussion about me doing a set of building video tutorials :)
Torley Linden: and for inworld building courses i suggest looking in Events (even tho it's cluttery... anyone have recommendations?)
Imnotgoing Sideways: NCI. (^_^)
Torley Linden: Imnogoing, haha, alas, the sad part of that is i used to read notecards feverishly, but with so much going on now, i hardly read them... that's why i request emails, they're easier to manage
Imnotgoing Sideways: I'll always shamelessly plug NCI . (^_^)
Cube Republic: design island?
Torley Linden: oh true, NCI... gotta have the respekt for NCI!
Zev Gausman: Sorry, i dondn't know it
Zev Gausman: i'm new here
Cube Republic: thres a sim called design island i believe
Rya Kjeller: NCI
Zev Gausman: in this round
Torley Linden: oh welcome to Second Life, Zev
Cube Republic: thats where i learnt to join prims
Torley Linden: one place you should check out Zev, is the Ivory Tower of Primitives...
Rya Kjeller: they offer freebie building materials too ...
Torley Linden: it's in Natoma... if you use Search...
Torley Linden: you should be able to find it :)
Cube Republic: ivory is awesome
Cube Republic: so is particle lab
Torley Linden: yeah, all these great places, they're connected to each other
Torley Linden: the makers of them are either close friends or, they're aware and link to one another
Cube Republic: on the shoulders of giants
Torley Linden: i love when that happens, because it makes it easy to share knowledge
Torley Linden: SO TRUE CUBE
Torley Linden: i love that, what Newton said... we get better results and become more effective as we build (literally and otherwise) on the work of those who came before us
Al Sonic: Melonburst!
Imnotgoing Sideways: Lawl ^-^
Torley Linden: the other day i was just editing Inside the Lab Podcast #4 which is on the topic of Education in Second Life (academics and universities), that should be on http://blog.secondlife.com soon, i think next week
Cube Republic: yes im beggining to see how important sharing knowledge is rather than coverting it. Ideas cannot really be attributed to an individual, rather as humans we are allowed to interface with and interpret ideas that simply float in the ether like meams :D
Torley Linden: but there's so much going on in terms of stuff to learn from
Torley Linden: Cube: yeah, hoarding secrets usually doesn't work out well if it's done for selfish reasons that don't benefit others
Torley Linden: that's WELLsaid
Imnotgoing Sideways: But... If you find an exploit that's best not shared.... (=_=)
Torley Linden: one of the most brilliant electronic musicians, BT (Brian Transeau), openly shares his techniques, and he's made some snobs mad and caused some controversy, but it's great because a lot of new producers can more rapidly acclimate and get started
Torley Linden: there are times when discretion is best, Imnotgoing... yes...
Torley Linden: i'm referring to where sharing knowledge will generally benefit and empower people
Torley Linden: not enable them to steal L$$$ ;)
Cube Republic: richie is lord electronic mu mu :D
Torley Linden: Richie Hawtin?
Cube Republic: aya
Cube Republic: yay*
Torley Linden: if so, he's ncredible... i really like a lot of his MNML mixes
Torley Linden: had the pleasure of shaking his hand in person years ago
Brunhilde Burt: little question into the round: got a permission-problem several times in the last 2 or 3 weeks... I gave stuff fullperm or just noTrans. The receiver wasnt able to modify. Rezzed onto ground and taken into inv again, the item was just copy or had no perms anymore! Is this a known problem?
Cube Republic: check out closer torely
Torley Linden: strange to see him with hair now, but i like how he hasn't stood still
Cube Republic: and a beard!
Torley Linden: Brunhilde, that might be one of several things... did you check the contents and permissions of those contents?
Brunhilde Burt: I gave fullperm or just notrans
Cube Republic: i think education is a great thing in secondlife...someone taught me cosines with prims
Brunhilde Burt: the receiver saw it fullperm or just notrans
Cube Republic: i really saw the light then torely
Torley Linden: also, there's a permission subtlety which is confusing... it's called the "slam bit" and can happen if you set permissions in inventory but don't rez it. for safety's sake, i recommend setting permissions of nested stuff in the open and then taking it back into inventory.
Brunhilde Burt: but there was noMody available
Torley Linden: i haven't heard of a vast known prob with that otherwise Brunhilde...
Torley Linden: omg cool dragon avatar :D
norritt Xi: Hi everyone =)
Imnotgoing Sideways: Konnichiwa <Hi> (^_^)
Christredamus Vendetta: actually it's a dinosaur
Zev Gausman: hi
Torley Linden: Cube: haha i'll have to see those pics then. "The Tunnel" and "Orange Minus" continue to be among my favorites.
Cube Republic: wow look at those sculpts on chris
Torley Linden: A DINOSAUR! EVEN BETTER! Jurassic park'ed!
Cube Republic: i know your not one for rumours torley..but i heard one that made me all excited lol ...about importation of 3d models into sl in the future
Imnotgoing Sideways: Ooh. (o.o)
Torley Linden: well Cube, earlier rumors of that in 2004 ended up becoming sculpted prims. i don't think we'd allow straight import of OBJ and the like JUST YET for awhile... but easing the import paths for sculpts would be very very valuble
Rya Kjeller: seconding what torley said ... rezz stuff on ground ... set perms... then take back into inventory to be safe ...
Torley Linden: and who is your source of this rumor? ;)
Imnotgoing Sideways: Like *.step files? Or something else? (o.o)
Cube Republic: yes, ive really got into sculpts and the vert count is abit crippling
Brunhilde Burt: gtg mates.... cya around
Cube Republic: ive got unmost respect for lightwaves etc who can get that LOD out of a sculpt
Torley Linden: Cube, yeah, i'm sure you know about how to export Maya constructions and then bring them into Second Life as multiple sculpted prims which are linked?
Kara Spengler: would be nice if we could set default permissions ... I am always forgetting to open up something-or-other
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: like that famous ant whose picture gets circulated
Torley Linden: Kara, yeah, that would be useful in a number of cases. the permissions system is not naturally easy to understand.
Al Sonic: Yes indeed Kara.
Ivy Lane sighs and wished and prays for Maya
Cube Republic: ive not got into maya yet, i need to get an edu copy from uni
Torley Linden: this is the "famous ant" i was referring to: http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/809843139/
Cube Republic: zbrush is very good combined with simply sculptypaint as the low poly models it makes are specific for second life
Imnotgoing Sideways: I've worked in Solid Works and Alibre... I would LOVE to find a way to import from those applications. (^_^)
Kara Spengler: the default privs are right if you are neurotic about everything you rez :)
Jaymes Kjeller: This might sound a bit unreleated, but I discovered that Hexagon from DAZ can do sculpties too.
Torley Linden: and Daz3D have increased sculptie support with 2.5 of Hexagon.
Torley Linden: WHAT JAYMES SAID
Torley Linden: =D
Torley Linden: DAZ have an official presence in Second Life
Torley Linden: i was chatting with Darlisa, their technical writer who also did some video tutorials
Cube Republic: oooh
Torley Linden: DAZ Island - they built the terrain using Bryce and then converted it in Photoshop to RAW files which were then uploaded into Second Life
Cube Republic: omgosh
Torley Linden: i like the names for their openspaces, like Displacement Bay
Cube Republic: im gonna have to go take a look
Dan Linden gave you Tiny no UCHU ten, Dust (96, 146, 90).
Cube Republic: ive got my first sim to build this week
Cube Republic: i was gonna use backhoe
Torley Linden: ah yes, backhoe is VERY elegant
Torley Linden: the guy who made it is super smart
Torley Linden: (Zero Linden's alt)
Cube Republic: yeah with a pen...'i did the little fiddly bits round norway'
Cube Republic: LOL
Torley Linden: (and yes that is public info, heh)
Torley Linden: i wish Backhoe existed for Windows
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: it's an example of a fine, Mac-only app... like all those Omni apps
Imnotgoing Sideways: Kinda like M Linden's alt... I think I remember harassing him in Hanja once. (^_^)y
Cube Republic: i wish you could go sideways into the landscapee :D
Torley Linden: hahahaha
Torley Linden: M Linden: POWER IDLING!
Torley Linden: i'm sure you've all seen the picture
Torley Linden: charming.
norritt Xi: Yeah great shot =D
Cube Republic: i manged to snap the gov torley
Torley Linden: congrats to Melanie Kidd for catchin that
Cube Republic: crashing lol
Torley Linden: haha did ya Cube? that's a hard one, the Gov is a rare find!
Cube Republic: i knew she planetd trees
Kara Spengler: well, sorry to run early, but time for me to do the evening commute over here
Torley Linden: i love those cultural kind of bits... yes indeed, Cube
Torley Linden: have a good one Kara! good to see ya
Cube Republic: so i kept an eye on the new land
Kara Spengler: byeas Torley!
Torley Linden: hahah... you are a GovWatcher :D
Torley Linden: have you also visited the Governor's Mansion?
Cube Republic: i got photo of week in avatsra, but give money to relay
Cube Republic: :)
Torley Linden: oooh
Torley Linden: which issue #?
Torley Linden: i like looking at all our nametags here
Imnotgoing Sideways: LULZ.. That's almost all I can see on this little screen. (>_<)
Ewan Mureaux: did my first useful video the other day torley!
Torley Linden: yes Ewan? :)
Ewan Mureaux: how to skin the RC
Imnotgoing Sideways: Black Dazzle.... (^_^)y
Imnotgoing Sideways: Good job!!! XD
Torley Linden: ohh what's the URL? did you link to it on the skin page on the wiki?
Torley Linden: or even EMBED it? that'd be even bettah!
Torley Linden: (we can embed videos on the wiki, let me know if you want to learn)
Ewan Mureaux: two secs and no not yet
Torley Linden: kewl
Ewan Mureaux: http://youtube.com/watch?v=8TqO21vYOYY
LifeFactory Writer: yes, I would like to see a tutorial on embedding video. Thanks!
Torley Linden: videos add a nice life to a page, like on http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Sculpted_Prims where Qarl's sculpted prim video is linked
Torley Linden: LifeFactory, i actually previously covered it in my how-to wiki video tutorial
Torley Linden: but long story short, it's very easy...
LifeFactory Writer: Sorry, didn't you just say to let you know if we were interested? My mistake! :)
Torley Linden: <videoflash>YOUTUBE-ID</videoflash>
Cube Republic: sounds like an 80's electro band 'the video life'
Torley Linden: and that's how LifeFactory :)
Torley Linden: try it with the # at the end of a YouTube video
LifeFactory Writer: thank you! ;)
Torley Linden: nice juggling attachment
Barney Boomslang gave you Watermelon Saxophone Avatar.
LifeFactory Writer: I am juggling my multiple lives
Torley Linden: look at http://wiki.secondlife.com/w/index.php?title=Sculpted_Prims&action=edit for an example :)
Cube Republic: lol
Torley Linden: i like it whenever someone copies and modifies my wikicode to fit their needs
Master Kane: torley.. do they still have issues with tthe FOCUS on 1.20?
Torley Linden: Master, what specifically?
Master Kane: minimized wiondows do not stay where you put tghem
Master Kane: them*
Torley Linden: i remember hearing that bug but don't know what latest status is
Master Kane: Ah Ok
Imnotgoing Sideways: Ick! Lunch break is over already! Bai Bai. (^_^)y
Master Kane: thats annoying. lol
Torley Linden: have a nice time Imnotgoing
Torley Linden: yeah...
norritt Xi: Bye Imno!
Cube Republic: this viewer seems much more stable (RC)
Torley Linden: little annoyances really add up
Master Kane: yeah.. but understandable also
Torley Linden: i've been doing fine on RC8, with the exception of sometimes having viewer freezes that also make voice stutter
Cube Republic: sounds were weird on last one
norritt Xi: Yes that and the memory leak =P
Cube Republic: lol
Ewan Mureaux: how do i create a wiki account?
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Stephen Posaner: if on SL site it is ur av name and passs
Jaymes Kjeller: I've had few problems with RC8, mainly random crashes.
Torley Linden: Ewan, just login using your usual Second Life username/password (it's safe, Linden Lab owns the site)
Ewan Mureaux: oh
Gellan Glenelg: SL wiki, ewan? Just log on with SL name/password
Torley Linden: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Special:Userlogin
Ewan Mureaux: it said i had the wrong password eek
Ivy Lane: where can i learn about addign stuff to a wiki page? and what about the heaving/moving in and out of the cam, i am still ahveing that happen sometimes in the RC client
Torley Linden: btw, anyone into funny videos should see http://www.viralvideochart.com/?items=100 it's a good aggregator of what's going on
Master Kane: Do you also need QT to view Web pages on a rarcel?
Torley Linden: Ivy, i've a video tutorial ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=dCpzZWH_mas ) and about the camera, describe more please?
Torley Linden: Master, i don't think so since that uses Mozilla libraries; i haven't tried it to confirm, tho
Ivy Lane: well i changed the settins on my Mac ( i Mac) and it stopped last rc version
Ivy Lane: this new ont
Cube Republic: loads of the viral vids are adverts now
Ivy Lane: sometimes when i mive in close to my av
Torley Linden: Cube, so true. even that Indiana Jones boulder one.
Master Kane: I cant seem to get it to work
Ivy Lane: it moves in and otu again and vibrates
Torley Linden: Lego boulder
Master Kane: ok
Master Kane: ty
Ivy Lane: on it's on
Cube Republic: we had to make at university
Cube Republic: so i think its pase now
Ivy Lane: even though i shut off the joystick otption
Torley Linden: Ivy, hmmm if i'm understanding you correctly, variants of that have been a problem for a long time... hard to describe in words, i know. camera bugs are some of the best to show on video...
Cube Republic: consummers are going to get smarter
Cube Republic: will have to come up with new tricks
Torley Linden: yeah, Cube, just like how the current generation already largely hates intrusive ads and finds new ways to skip them on TV
Torley Linden: so viral ones are more "sneaky"
Ivy Lane: well last time i tried to do a video on my mac it crashed :(
Cube Republic: my friend in rl was the first gorilla marketer
Torley Linden: but i think no matter what, to the effect of what Seth Godin says, you want to get people's permission in a way... and appeal to them with what you have to say. it has to have value for them.
Torley Linden: oh really Cube?
TheDiva Rockin: Hello Everyone!
Ivy Lane: and now we do not have the feature and have to have external software for video correct?
norritt Xi: Hi Diva!
Cube Republic: yeah he projected a magazine cover onto houses of parliment
Torley Linden: Ivy, you tried adjusting Camera Options in Preferences? Joystick should not have any effect unless you've got a SpaceNavigator or other alt. input device
Stephen Posaner: i should make a vid of how my arrow cam controls dont work on torleys area here
Master Kane: hi diva
TheDiva Rockin smiles
Torley Linden: heya Diva!
Cube Republic: works for company called 'cunning'
TheDiva Rockin: .,¡i|¹i¡¡i¹|i¡,. ™
TheDiva Rockin: `'¹li¡|¡|¡il¹'`
Torley Linden: hahah Cube i like the sound of that, that's pretty awesome
Stephen Posaner thinks coffee cup has hole in it
Cube Republic: its all getting ironic now, but he makes a mint from it
Ivy Lane: when the problem started originally unchecking joystick was the only thing th atworkd, i ahve no other navagaro but a mouse for input
Torley Linden: Cube: it often helps to be first in a field like that
Ivy Lane: camera optoins are the same they ahve been forever .....
Torley Linden: Ivy, i wish i could see precisely what you're describing
Cube Republic: hes got the brains and with a name life floyd was made for the job
Ivy Lane: well how can i record it on video?
Ivy Lane: what programs are usable on mac out sid of sl? becuase sl does not have the feature any more correct?
Ivy Lane: i will gladly try to capture it
Torley Linden: there are several on Mac like... iShowU and Snapz which have free trials i believe
Torley Linden: ScreenFlow too
Torley Linden: when i think of "Floyd" i think of floating animal balloons
Torley Linden: especially PIGS
Cube Republic: lol
TheDiva Rockin: lol
Ivy Lane: than you torley
Cube Republic: dr who music
Rya Kjeller: sometimes ... when there is an object between the camera and the av .... the camera auto zooms in and out a couple of times ... until u move the av
Torley Linden: you're welcome Ivy
Torley Linden: oh i love that Dr. Who theme
Torley Linden: yea, like Rya said... that sounds related too
Ewan Mureaux: the orbital version
Stephen Posaner: i see that too @Rya
Ewan Mureaux: Doctor
Cube Republic: yeah ive seen orbital
Al Sonic: Yeah I've had the camera bounce back and forth and back and forth in certain positions.
Ewan Mureaux: amazing live
Master Kane: what are you currently useing torley, 1.20?
Rya Kjeller: btw im using ver 1.19.1 (4) of the viewer ....
Ewan Mureaux: ok i tried to embed the video but its just html not like a video embedded on the page
Torley Linden: i'm on 1.20 RC8
Stephen Posaner: I have seen it in 1.19 and in 20rc*
Cube Republic: whats the renderdynamicreflections for in the debug torley? is it a future setting?
Master Kane: ok.. does that one have the focus issue as well?
Torley Linden: Orbital is one of my faves... they had many great tracks
Torley Linden: Master, it makes mirror-like reflective settings but hasn't been touched in awhile
Torley Linden: works on some systems but not others
Torley Linden: and yes, eventually we want to support it
Torley Linden: as part of a Materials system
Cube Republic: i think snivilisation is sublime
Torley Linden: not yet but eventually
Torley Linden: hahaha Cube, i have this funny story
Torley Linden: i used to go to this really uptight classical music school in an old building...
Cube Republic: yeah it blew my viewer up ad to install a fresh copy
Cube Republic: lol
Torley Linden: and then i put in a tape with "Sad But True" with the big wobbly bass
Torley Linden: and then i cranked the volume up. and proceeded to earn the ire and consternation of some of the folks there o.O
Cube Republic: snivvilisation made me cry
Cube Republic: its beautiful
Master Kane: :)
Torley Linden: i always appreciated how since "Chime", Orbital have used wonderful melodies.
Torley Linden: they never shied away from melodies, which is a fault of some electronic music. not saying that not having melodies is always a bad thing, but some producers have an irrational fear of "catchiness".
Cube Republic: yeah we have lost melody a bit now
Xida Young: If I produce a video tut about sl: is it important to mention especially copyright aspects like "inSL"?
Cube Republic: its not fashioable
Master Kane: is this your compistions here on the stream, torley?
Cube Republic: more minimal sound now
Cube Republic: with dance mu
Cube Republic: not all mu of course
Cube Republic: lol
Torley Linden: Xida, if you're using Linden Lab trademarks, yes.
Torley Linden: Master: yup :)
Ewan Mureaux: sorry is there something special i need to do to embed video on the wiki?
Torley Linden: oh oh that reminds me, i heard from some people about http://mediamaster.com and have played with it...
Torley Linden: it seems to be a pretty kewl way to have your own music radio station in SL
Al Sonic: The usual SL is (c) Linden Lab kinda stuff should do...
Master Kane: these are nice
Torley Linden: you upload your Mp3s and stuff to the site, and then it gives you an URL which you can stream in Second Life
TheDiva Rockin: nice
Torley Linden: Ewan, just put the YouTube ID between <videoflash></videoflash>
Dizzy Banjo: hey Torley, LifeFactory.. and all :D
TheDiva Rockin: TY
Torley Linden: see examples @ http://secondlife.com/video :)
Torley Linden: feel free to copy any code there and modify it Ewan
LifeFactory Writer: Hello, Dizzy!
Kaiya Qunhua: Torley, do you have your DivX codec settings listed somewhere else? I can't read them on your Torley Linden/Vidtut process page.
Claryssa Schmidt: hi Diva
Ewan Mureaux: right i copied the youtube embed thingy
Torley Linden: Kaiya, you clicked to enlarge the image?
Cube Republic: yeah i was just talking to a club owner last night about that, seems silly to have my alt logged sitting listening in a club while i work with my account
Kaiya Qunhua: Yes, & I still can't read it.
Master Kane: relaxing... I had ALl kinds of questions but forgot them all when i had music on lol
Torley Linden: Kaiya, i wish mediawiki image linking was more flexible, but... https://wiki.secondlife.com/w/images/6/67/Torley_DivX.png
Torley Linden: there's actually a Full Resolution Link
Torley Linden: after you click the thumbnail
Torley Linden: let me make sure to note that too so it's easier for future viewers
Kaiya Qunhua: Thank you!
Torley Linden: you're welcome!
Dizzy Banjo: hey is that an avatunes boombox you have there Torley ?
Torley Linden: if you have any other questions let me know
Torley Linden: Dizzy, i'm not familiar with Avatunes
Master Kane: also. Torley.. in your video, you said you can build at 4096.... highest I can get anything is about 4050M
TheDiva Rockin: Hi Claryssa - sorry was lookin at the urls :)
Dizzy Banjo: http://avatunes.com/
Dizzy Banjo: its pretty cool
Torley Linden: *checks*
Dizzy Banjo: inworld 10s uploaded audio playback.. a nice script for it
Master Kane: im not on it atm
Torley Linden: really Master? i wonder if that changed...
Sougent Harrop: 4096 is the highest point an object can go
Master Kane: You can go 4K no prob though
Sougent Harrop: You have to build lower unless it's a small object
Torley Linden: thanks Sougent
Torley Linden: what we really really should have is a list of constraints and limits on a table
Torley Linden: we used to have a partial list in the old F1 Help
Sougent Harrop: 4050 is a good height.
Torley Linden: but the wiki might be a good place to list those
Master Kane: yes... Sougent... 4096 doesnt work for me for some reason
Master Kane: ahok
Torley Linden: thanks for clarifying that
Cube Republic: the higer build height is awesome
Master Kane: yah
Torley Linden: yeah, i remember when it was 768 m :)
Torley Linden: haha
Master Kane: oh geesh
Torley Linden: that seems so far away now
Sougent Harrop: Yep, 759 ws getting crowded.
TheDiva Rockin: lol
Torley Linden: and now you can get sky high skyboxes
TheDiva Rockin: that is kinda sad
Cube Republic: shame its not outaspace above a certain height
Torley Linden: high(er)
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
Master Kane: well one thing. most new people wont bother to FLY that high without assitance
Sougent Harrop: On my land there is a regular panorama of stuff at 759
Dizzy Banjo expects botcamping boxes at extreme heights now...
Torley Linden: yes, longtime thorn in my side Master actually
Torley Linden: since we're in a 3D world
Al Sonic: Heh, there's a JIRA issue for people who want sky-high places to look like outer space.
Torley Linden: Al, that's been a wanted idea since before i started
Master Kane: yes.. I know what you mean
Sougent Harrop: That would be nice, the bland blue is booring
Cube Republic: lol al
Torley Linden: i think artificial fly limit without scripts is ridiculous
norritt Xi: Cube well well see maybe we once reach the 40k meters and then really get an outta space area with different physics ;)
Dizzy Banjo: but then with popular places gone .. /me wonders what will happen to the concept of artificial traffic boosting..
CeeJay Tigerpaw: Just for fun, I once took my Tiger avatar to 100 Km. The Tiger has astronaut wings ...
norritt Xi: And maybe SL in 5 years or so is not a virtual world any more but a virtual solar system
Ewan Mureaux: i screwed up https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:Viewer_Skins
Master Kane: its like its border... odd why not just make it unlimited like with a tool
norritt Xi: With different planets =D
Cube Republic: or in estate settings if there was a button that let you change
Sougent Harrop: That would be interesting, virtual universe instead of virtual world
Cube Republic: the light levels in incriment
Torley Linden: Ewan, working now. :) the trick is JUST to put the YouTube ID
Torley Linden: not the whole URL
Ewan Mureaux: oh
Jaymes Kjeller: A virual universe sounds like fun to me
Cube Republic: yeah that would be mad.....an outerspace grid
Ewan Mureaux: ok thanks
Torley Linden: thanks Ewan! w00t
Dizzy Banjo: i wonder how long it would take for the "street" as described in snowcrash to fill up in SL..
Master Kane: Oh .. and why can we not FLY across where there IS NOT a sim... to a neighboring sim lol
Dizzy Banjo: if SL was a globe
Torley Linden: Master, see, that requires additional processing power. you'd need to have SOMETHING there by definition.
Torley Linden: like an openspace.
Al Sonic: Heh... Second Planet... and That planet over There...
Torley Linden: you can't just have an avatar in a void.
Master Kane: lol
norritt Xi: Everything is possible, though if the journey is going that direction there is still a long way in front of us...
Sougent Harrop: That would be nice to be able to do, too, be able to transition over the gaps between islands/continents
Master Kane: yes.. I was just teasing ;) sorry
Torley Linden: hahah don't be sorry
Torley Linden: ;)
Ewan Mureaux: would it not be possible to rip a hole in a wal and step into another sim?
Master Kane: :))
Ewan Mureaux: wall*
Torley Linden: yeah Eddwinchester, can hear ya on guitar :)
Dizzy Banjo hears guitar and voice through a voice client...
norritt Xi: But as one of my friends said: Living means to be travelling not arriving as fast as possible.
Torley Linden: Ewan, lol, like the Portal of SL...
Torley Linden: SLortal
Sougent Harrop: I don't care about flying over something, but i'd be nice to be able to pop automatically to the next sim server
Cube Republic: aye to outer space
Cube Republic: would rock
Tita Maertens: Torley do you know about those new low prims islands? heard there run 4 of those per server and therefore are more laggy?
Torley Linden: Sougent, you know, that's a good thought... so someone doesn't get confused wondering why they can't just cross over, they're transported somehow...
Sougent Harrop: Yeah, cause bumping into the invisible wall sucks.
Al Sonic: Openspaces, Tita?
Torley Linden: Tita: they have less power since they're divided, so yes, they are more prone to server-side lag.
Master Kane: i like the idea of different universes... maybe you all should work on that.. I need a mars please (ordering ahead of time) LOL
Tita Maertens: nods, ty Torley
Torley Linden: some details on OpenSpaces... http://blog.secondlife.com/?s=openspaces
Sougent Harrop: And a new person isn't going to know why they can't fly to the place they see on the map, I would think
Torley Linden: see Jack Linden's post and you are welcome :)
Torley Linden: Sougent, i'll agree... that's what happened to me
Master Kane: oh?
Master Kane: looking
Torley Linden: that's what we saw in some of our new user tests too
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
Cube Republic: i wish you could purcahse open space without needing a rich kid sim
Dizzy Banjo: i was looking how Skype automatically moderates the mic level the other day.. gonna check jira and see if tehre is a feature request for that.. surely vivox could implement that quite easily
Master Kane: lol
norritt Xi: Another crazy idea would be if SL develops as several ppl hope. Meaning SL becoming a kind of Web 3.0 some time in the future it meight be possible for anyone to connect a sim even with totally diefferent simulator software to a world wide grid
Sougent Harrop: Yeah, it's not intuitive to know you gotta go to the map and clicck t o teleport.
norritt Xi: Just lik it is today with the www there might be a wwg
Ewan Mureaux: ok i been checking the jira and i cant find this, does anyone get a strip of glow when they log in on RC8? i need to turn off and then on shaders to clear it
Cube Republic: well apple are opening virtual stores
Cube Republic: with virtual sales assistance
Cube Republic: so its becoming accepted
Sougent Harrop: What is needed is a nice little wormhole effect to pop you to the first sim in the direction you're flying
Kara Spengler: new record commute!
Torley Linden: Cube, where's that happening?
Torley Linden: i really liked my visit to the Apple Store
norritt Xi: Acutally SL is offering a more intuitive UI than a plain 2D website
Cube Republic: you would have to trawl the news at www.bit-tech.net
norritt Xi: Just that ppl arent used to move naturally in virtual environments yet
Torley Linden: hmmm... curious
Cube Republic: it was announced few weeks back
Torley Linden: i know in Second Life there are some fake Appl stores
Torley Linden: ;)
Cube Republic: oh yes
Eddwinchester Fitzgerald: Everyone join in with this one, if you know it.....
Cube Republic: fake everything here
Cube Republic: even the fake stuff gets faked
Master Kane: seen a thing on SLX "PineApple Keyboard"
Cube Republic: lol
Torley Linden: OMG OASIS
Sougent Harrop: Isn't there an "official" Apple Store in here?
Torley Linden: I LOVE THAT SONG
Torley Linden: not that i'm aware of, Sougent. i would've stood in the lineup for that
Cube Republic: busking in sl
Cube Republic: lol
Cube Republic: gotta make a working buskers hat
Torley Linden: hahaa cyberbusking
Master Kane: lol
Torley Linden: i used to joke about that when voice chat first emerged...
Sougent Harrop: I remember seeing something about an Apple store about the time you went on your visit.
Torley Linden: Sougent, hmmm... yeah, the only thing i took pix of inworld was the fake one
Cube Republic: i think music is where sl shines apart from everything else online
Cube Republic: the ability to listen to musician you would never hear
Torley Linden: i like going to exceptional concerts
norritt Xi: I read that blog post I'm thinking of a new keyboard too, mine is really ancient meanwhile.
Torley Linden: i'm looking for more live electronic music "remix on the fly" sets
Torley Linden: dubstep concert would bew kewl
Eddwinchester Fitzgerald: Someone said they liked dont look back in anger..... gimme a sec
Cube Republic: i drifted into a club and there was an australian guy playing the most amazing music live lol
Torley Linden: that was me Eddwinchester :)
Torley Linden: haha
Torley Linden: ooh nice, Cube. some of the most amazing stuff happens spontaneously
Stephen Posaner: torly you should come see my friend blues dj some night then
Torley Linden: that's what makes it so remarkable, when you don't have concrete expectations, but magic... unfolds!
Torley Linden: what's his club Stephen?
Stephen Posaner: we play a lot of dubstep from uk
Cube Republic: bits of MLking speaches over synth lines
Torley Linden: ohh nice
Cube Republic: fanrasric
Stephen Posaner: we both work at modus
Stephen Posaner: vivendi
Dizzy Banjo has a project in the works that will satisfy those requirements.. sonicly.. for you Torley ;-) :D
Torley Linden: so Stephen, what's the connection between Jazz and dubstep? :)
Torley Linden: haha Dizzy, i've yet to visit the Mozart installation i think you did with Eshi?
Torley Linden: that one's on my to-visit
Stephen Posaner: we are trying to get 2 streams to work for a dj battle
norritt Xi: Have you ever heard of the "Optimus Maximus Keyboard" Torley?
Dizzy Banjo: yeh its a nice place to chill
Sougent Harrop: Oh, it's cool, the Mozart thing.
Stephen Posaner: we pay no mind to the name we play all forms of music
Torley Linden: yes norritt, it looks beautiful. way out of my price range tho.
Sougent Harrop: Very visually pleasing
Torley Linden: cool Stephen, i like that philosophy
Cube Republic: LOL i have an unusual rl sirname and my pa did a search and found an sler, and he owns a jazz club in london and has invited me down
Torley Linden: i'm such a budget-conscious shopper, hehe
norritt Xi: Yes same thing here but they are working on a cheaper version of the first prototype
Torley Linden: mmm
Torley Linden: i like how flat the Apple Keyboard is
Cube Republic: i like the jazz mutant keyboard interface, if only i had the cash
Torley Linden: if anyone wants a fun typing game to play, http://typeracer.com
Torley Linden: Cube, do you know Peter Kirn?
Torley Linden: this JazzMutant looks lke something he woulda blogged about
norritt Xi: I read sth. about 370€ which is still not cheap for a keyboard but still better than the 1250€ for the first design
Torley Linden: thanks for playing Eddwinchester!
Cube Republic: no

ED ::: Male AO (Wear Me): Couldn't find animation -=Hover=-

Cube Republic: what a lovely meeting its been :)
Torley Linden: if you're into the art/science of digital audio, you NEED TO SEE
Torley Linden: http://createdigitalmusic.com/
Eddwinchester Fitzgerald: ;) anytime.... i should learn dont look back in anger, its on eof my fav';s
Torley Linden: and for videos, go to:
Torley Linden: http://createdigitalmotion.com
Torley Linden: they are among the finest blogs for such topics i've ever come across
Cube Republic: fantastic
Cube Republic: got a note card of perusals
Torley Linden: perusals?
Cube Republic: my spelling
Cube Republic: lol
KickMe Sideways: ghost prims. anyone know of a way to get rid of them or see them?
Ewan Mureaux: ctrl alt T
Torley Linden: KickMe, sometimes server restart helps.
Torley Linden: if they're not transparent
KickMe Sideways: doesnt work
KickMe Sideways: yah... besides that, torley
Kara Spengler: selecting via surrounding?
norritt Xi: Speaking of digital music, anyone knows these guys already? http://youtube.com/watch?v=mcz5VbxhDTc
KickMe Sideways: dosnt work
Sougent Harrop: I saw a tutorial on it (not a Torley Tut) but can't remember the name
Eddwinchester Fitzgerald: PIANO BUSKING ;)
Sougent Harrop: What's that other guy that did the tutorials?
Eddwinchester Fitzgerald: Last song too ;)
Cube Republic: lol
Cube Republic: :D
Torley Linden: "ghost prims" are sometimes a side-effect of incorrectly-calculated physics bounding boxes.
Torley Linden: hmmm not sure Sougent...
Torley Linden: wish i did know =)
norritt Xi: They hook up game pads and all kinds of controllers to a synthesizer and play live music on stage on the controlers
Torley Linden: haha nice Eddwinchester, you gto keys too, that's fun!
Zev Gausman: Thank you for all, torley and the round.
CeeJay Tigerpaw: I have to go, see you all next week or so...
Torley Linden: you're welcome Zev!
Zev Gausman: Good night
KickMe Sideways: Yah... but maybe thats something that they can work on , is how to see them .. as we all know they are a big pain
Zev Gausman: :-)
KickMe Sideways: when building
KickMe Sideways: :)
Zev Gausman: bye
Ivy Lane: bye for now
Ivy Lane: thanks
Torley Linden: i need to go myself, but thanks each and all for being with me at my Office Hour. we had a whimsical time!
