Torley Linden: FRIENDLY GREETINGS! :D
Squirrel Wood: Holla
Torley Linden: it's all rezzing in for me now, omg
Master Nestler: Friendly Greeting :)
Torley Linden: hahahaah
Squirrel Wood: rezrezrez
Ranos Brumer: Ahh Some sort of Dragon thing was trying to grope me
Casey Tuqiri: hi torley
Torley Linden: oh it always trips me out to hear myself
Master Nestler: !!!FUCKIN TELEPHONE!!!
Torley Linden: Ranos, only in Second Life!
Torley Linden: hahahaha Master that's from my David Lynch parody but it sounds all distorted
Imnotgoing Sideways can't wait to get home and play with RC12! (^_^)
Casey Tuqiri: master no swearing
Neptune Quan: I need to get tran & copy bear help torley
Master Nestler: lol
Imnotgoing Sideways cusses angrily.
Torley Linden: i need to note tho that this office technically is in a Mature region
Neptune Quan: hahaha
Torley Linden: welcome to my Office Hour!
Lars Donardson: oh pls Master..learn how to use "normalizing" before uploading sounds..lol
Torley Linden: we're pretty improvisatory here...
Master Nestler: lol k
Master Nestler: !!!!TRILLION YEARS!!!!
RawMilk905 Kline: HI Torley
Torley Linden: digital clipping is sooo ugly, i wish inworld voice had a soft limiter
Torley Linden: hi RawMilk :) and good to see each and all of ya today!
Torley Linden: what's new and awesome?
Casey Tuqiri: torley how come u banned jumpman lane for swearing at the jenna jackson strip thing
Torley Linden: i was just making a video tutorial about making a shirt with ArtRage
Master Nestler: whats Opensim
Torley Linden: Casey, i can't discuss individual account discipline
Imnotgoing Sideways: Isn't banning Jumpy a reflex by now? (o.o)
Casey Tuqiri: or what ever her name is :/
Lars Donardson: voice..is that a new feature *searches Torley's vidtuts for a hint*
Random Person: Torley, have you made a tutorial regarding the Show Look At feature yet
Torley Linden: Random, no... because the last time i was going to, it was broken -- that's a good Advanced feature tho
Torley Linden: i gonna make a note
Torley Linden: thx for bringing that up
Random Person: cool
Imnotgoing Sideways: Do it work again in the RC? (o.o)
Random Person: it works currently for the RC
Torley Linden: i like that one, it's funny when someone denies peeping into a window and then you say "i know where you're looking!"
Ranos Brumer: What is it?
Torley Linden: it wuz broken in the RC for awhile, back now
Random Person: yea
Imnotgoing Sideways: \(^_^)/
Torley Linden: shows a crosshairs where an avatar's point of focus is
Torley Linden: so even if their head isn't turned, you know WHERE THEY ARE STARING LOL
Imnotgoing Sideways knows a camera trick workaround. (^_^)
Ewan Mureaux: so you can feel all perved on in a club
Torley Linden: oh and what's that Imnotgoing?
Torley Linden: ha ha ha ha Ewan
Imnotgoing Sideways: I cam on my own head... Then pan waaaaaay back. (^_^)
Ewan Mureaux: is it alt zoom on something then use cam controls?
Torley Linden: always clever workarounds, he heh hehe
Imnotgoing Sideways giggles.
Imnotgoing Sideways: Skills of a successful stalker. (^_^)y
Ranos Brumer: lol
Torley Linden: i was in Lively the other day and i had to "relearn" camera controls there, but some of it was similar to SL!
Emilylo Mayako helps herself to some watermellon
Master Nestler: the traffic grew big in Scion City
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: what's happening @ Scion City?
Imnotgoing Sideways: Wah... Lively... I saw Pathfinder there. (^_^)
Lars Donardson: oh..the colorful chatroom for 12-15yo?
Torley Linden: haven't been there in ages
Imnotgoing Sideways: I sure ain't going back though. (>_<)
Master Nestler: a new role play in scion which traffic went up
Torley Linden: Lars i belive it's for all ages, but some say it's more youth-oriented
RawMilk905 Kline: why should we know where each other are looking?
Torley Linden: i went into Lively and got sound spam griefed
Torley Linden: some things never change
Imnotgoing Sideways: Heh. (=_=)
RawMilk905 Kline: lively isn't all that
Imnotgoing Sideways: I think some of my smilies trigger emotes there. (^_^)
RawMilk905 Kline: it's very limited
Torley Linden: Random, your sky sketch pens rock
Imnotgoing Sideways: I coudn't stop my avatar from emothing. (^_^)
Torley Linden: just wanted to let you know that in-avatar, the HUD is so much fun to use
Squirrel Wood has no need for lively
RawMilk905 Kline: It kept my attention for five minutes
Random Person: ohh
Imnotgoing Sideways: That's now long I lasted. (^_^)
Ewan Mureaux: ayone know why they put a waxy coating on cotton buds? its dumb an pointless...... like that lively thing (/me shoe horns in current gripe witch chat topic)
Random Person: yes, I can give promotional copies toe veryone at the Torley Meeting today
Random Person: if thats allowed
Aimee Trescothick can't log in to Lively
Torley Linden: that's fine if you'd like to :D sharing of innovations is always welcome here
Imnotgoing Sideways: Then I just got the itch to abuse a prim. (>_<)
Neptune Quan: Can i get a Skywriter pen?
Dakota Schwade: What is Lively?
Aimee Trescothick: can only get in with my partner's account
Torley Linden: hmmm i wonder why that is
Random Person: whoever would like a copy -- please IM me & let me know
Imnotgoing Sideways: Lively = IMVU + Google. (=_=)
Torley Linden: it ran very choppily for me tho...
Ranos Brumer: Hey that Skywritter Pen would work well with a wacom
Aimee Trescothick: yeah, I just get "Joining Room" forever
Torley Linden: but yeah, there are a lot of similarities (including visually) to IMVU
Torley Linden: i believe some of the same people were involved?
RawMilk905 Kline: I just went and reserved my name, because Bettina warned that people were signing up with other people's names from here
Torley Linden: yeah people were asking if i was the real Torley :p
RawMilk905 Kline: presumably to pose as them?
Torley Linden: some people were taking other Linden names too
Imnotgoing Sideways: Yeah... The Second Life™ Forum is full of claims that "my name is taken already". (>_<)
Torley Linden: so it looks like there were already posers, which yet again points to the need for trust + identity across virtual worlds
Imnotgoing Sideways: Gladly, I've had my GMail account since I started SL. (^_^)
Neptune Quan: thinks
Master Nestler: torley are u going to fix sim crossing lag sometime
Random Person: yep
RawMilk905 Kline: well I think the need rests with users
Imnotgoing Sideways: But, I think you can actively change your avatar name once you're in a room there. (o.o)
Torley Linden: Master: eventually *i* hope that'll be better.
RawMilk905 Kline: to have the sense to realize that just because a name matches
Torley Linden: Imnotgoing, that's even more confusing.
RawMilk905 Kline: it doesn't mean a person does
Master Nestler: Bay City has the worst sim crossing lag
Lars Donardson: I was actually looking for a vidtut about "how to reduce lag" to point a newb to
Imnotgoing Sideways: No kidding. (>_<)
Lars Donardson: was I too blind or is there none?
Torley Linden: Lars, you're not blind, it just means i need to organize them better!
annie Juran: we need more group spaces D:
Torley Linden: there's several that are related...
Torley Linden: "Learn the Lag Meter" is one @ http://youtube.com/watch?v=WDe5GYGuYE4
Torley Linden: annie, if i had L$5 for every time that was asked ;)
Random Person: maybe you can make a tutorial on how to boost frame-rate by disabling some of SL's rendering, Advanced > Rednering > Types
Master Nestler: and i saw that opensim video
Random Person: rendering*
annie Juran: can someone send me 1L my money says loading
Torley Linden: Random, i show related things in the Graphics Preferences Guide... but it's true that yeah, turning all that off helps if things extremely suck
Random Person: oh ok
RawMilk905 Kline: I doubt it would be possible let alone likely that every service offering a screen name check databases from other services
Neptune Quan: Can you put trans on the boxs random
Lars Donardson: calssic error..draw distance to max and cache to 1000mb
Lars Donardson snickers
Ewan Mureaux: i had trouble uploading the closing speach the other day
Torley Linden: RawMilk, well, there are some promising things that point the way... like OpenID
Torley Linden: we haven't had all the time to get to those yet... because more pressing stuff comes first
annie Juran: omg so much lag
Squirrel Wood: tutorial idea: What to do when you are on a slow connection ?
Neptune Quan accepted your inventory offer.
Neptune Quan accepted your inventory offer.
Torley Linden: Squirrel: how slow are walking about? less than broadband?
Yuu Nakamichi: good one, squirrel
Ranos Brumer: Has anyone else noticed a serious problem with scale?
Yuu Nakamichi: slow broadband
RawMilk905 Kline: yes Torley, but things like that have privacy issues along with them
Squirrel Wood: less than 256kbps
Yuu Nakamichi: like rural US ;p
RawMilk905 Kline: as well
Imnotgoing Sideways: Scale? Like people not building to it? (o.o)
Aimee Trescothick: I suspect Google considers theirs the "One True Login" (tm)
Squirrel Wood: modem, isdn speeds eventually
Ranos Brumer: Yes
Ewan Mureaux: one loging to rule them all
Ranos Brumer: I found out that my avatar was aourn 7 foot tall the other day
Torley Linden: RawMilk: agreed, privacy is always important to consider. even Google recently added a privacy policy to the bottom of their sparse, 28-words page
Imnotgoing Sideways: Heh... Yeah... I have a scaled height bar to bug people about that. (^_^)
Master Nestler: Whats the difference between Second Life and Opensim
Torley Linden: i've liked using OpenID across a variety of services.. are any of you familiar with http://popurls.com ?
annie Juran: can someone send me 1L so i can clear the loading... where my money is please
RawMilk905 Kline: nope
Imnotgoing Sideways giggles.
RawMilk905 Kline: not heard of it
Torley Linden: Master, i recommend reading http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Main_Page for details on that
annie Juran: D:
Aimee Trescothick: ooh, I'm 4ft 1", put on 3 inches since yesterday :D
Master Nestler: k
Torley Linden: wow
Torley Linden: we all grow :p
Ranos Brumer: ya I was back around 6'5" again acording to that
Lars Donardson: another idea for a tutorial..when to use gestures and when NOT
Lars Donardson looks at master
Ranos Brumer: Suppose to be 5'11"
Imnotgoing Sideways: Lawl ^-^
Master Nestler: lol
Hoppy Inglewood: im agoin sideways HI
Aimee Trescothick: says you're 5'11" here Ranos :)
Hoppy Inglewood: do you play metal gear solid portable ops/
Hoppy Inglewood: online
Imnotgoing Sideways: My tall avatar is about 5'8" prim height and usually still mistaken for a kid avatar. (>_<)
Hoppy Inglewood: i recognize the tag
Entering god mode, level 200
floatythingy AO: 3091 bytes free
Emilylo Mayako: My av is mistaken for a kid, I dont know why (=.=)
Master Nestler: YAY! (yay!)
Ranos Brumer: wb
Connecting to in-world Voice Chat...
RawMilk905 Kline: I would love it if they added scaling to the avatars
Connected
Torley Linden: sorry, crashed, SmartHeap error, arghhh
Ranos Brumer: What you mean?
Emilylo Mayako: WB Torley
Imnotgoing Sideways: Oop. RC12? (o.o)
Master Nestler: *:::* WELCOME BACK *:::*
RawMilk905 Kline: so you could be a pixie or a giant
Nidol Slazar: Escuse me fine plebs, but is this the way to Sparta?
Hoppy Inglewood: you know u have soxy skin dakota
Ranos Brumer: oh well you kinda can
Torley Linden: on RC13, and it appears that hasn't made it better
Lars Donardson: wow...Lindens do crash...it's gotta be your hardware Torley
Lars Donardson giggles
Aimee Trescothick: yeah, scaling would be nice, I'm usually the world's tallest pixie
Ann Atkinson: ;-)
Hoppy Inglewood: they call me Inglewood
Dakota Schwade: I'm on RC13, Mac, not bad so far.
RawMilk905 Kline: right
Ranos Brumer: 13
Hoppy Inglewood: say werd
Yuu Nakamichi: I crash even before the login screen now
Torley Linden: Nidol... haha, i should have recognized your outfit... THIS... ISN'T... SPARTA unfortunately but SilverScreen used to have a 300-themed area
Ranos Brumer: I'm stil on 12
Ranos Brumer: lol
RawMilk905 Kline: if you want to be skinny you have to be huge
Imnotgoing Sideways: Ah.. That means I need to download once I get home. (>_<)
Torley Linden: Lars, yes, i have crashed many times in pursuit of dastardly, bastardly bugs!
Yuu Nakamichi: unless I elevate to admin rights in Vista
Ranos Brumer: ya i know
Yuu Nakamichi: in which case it works, shrug
Lars Donardson: I use the RC if I'm in a too good of a mood and don't want to be productive Torley :p
Torley Linden: i'm still on XP
Ranos Brumer: Is this Sparta?
Hoppy Inglewood: i just feel a connection here
RawMilk905 Kline: yeah
Ranos Brumer: XP for life
RawMilk905 Kline: vista is scary
Ranos Brumer: lol
Hoppy Inglewood: ou know yappin with you here i this watermelon
Master Nestler: i like xp better
Random Person: i probably crash the most here, I use a plain PCI graphics card
Torley Linden: Lars, i've had the SmartHeap crashes on 1.19.1 but i believe we'll be switching to another memory profiling system in the future
Hoppy Inglewood: what do ya do here in second life
Ranos Brumer: whats funny, the same gripes I've been hearing about vista, I remember hearing about XP
Master Nestler: vista is like a downgrade version of xp but with more crap on it
Random Person: i create random content for fun
Aimee Trescothick: live
Ranos Brumer: Woot for Randomness
Lars Donardson points to Nicholaz Be-W for building and sticks his tongue out at Torley
RawMilk905 Kline: and uses twice the resources from what I hear
Imnotgoing Sideways: XP came out... Hardware had to keep up.... Vista came out, hardware still has to catch up. (=_=)
Torley Linden: Lars, explain more? :)
Torley Linden: i haven't had a chance to check out Nicholaz's recent viewers. it's great that his innovations have benefited Residents!
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
Lars Donardson: it stuns me every time that he got rid of some bugs (being a one man operation) that LL reproduced in every new viewer release ;)
Lars Donardson: 'nuff said
Imnotgoing Sideways: Ncholaz almost gave up right after the release of Windlight, but started again and now has a Windlight version. (^_^)
Lars Donardson: called EC (Eye Candy)
Imnotgoing Sideways: Yeppers. (^_^)
Imnotgoing Sideways: It was one of the easiest ways of getting through the megaprim hole back when it was found. (^_^)
Lars Donardson chitters
Ranos Brumer: Hmm Ninja Bunny
RawMilk905 Kline: Random, were you the one who got burned at burning life?
Imnotgoing Sideways: Torley + silence = crashed again? (o.o)
Ewan Mureaux: yeah that was nice I thought id they found a problem with rendering prims over 256 but couldnt decide on where to limit the size, 256m was a good start and it was great nicholaz put a limit in
Aimee Trescothick: navigationally challenged Ninja Bunneh today lol
Ann Atkinson accepted your inventory offer.
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: no, i am being a good listener :)
Ann Atkinson accepted your inventory offer.
Imnotgoing Sideways giggles.
Ranos Brumer: lol
Torley Linden: hehe, but it's nice you're used to me talking a lot!
Yuu Nakamichi: oops
Random Person: I have discoevered a resident who has released a free "megaprim search HUD", which looks through a database of 15,000 megaprims for your specific X/Y/Z size
Ranos Brumer: I was thinking samet hing.
Yuu Nakamichi: sorry aimee :)
Random Person: http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=712605
Torley Linden: i've been having fun with megaprims recently... Pink Photon sent me a very cool HUD rezzer
Lars Donardson: Torley and silence = Torley trying to AVOID crashing LOL
Aimee Trescothick: keep freezing when I move
Torley Linden: Random, same thing?
Imnotgoing Sideways: Lawl ^-^
Random Person: really, yea lol
Torley Linden: er lemme check that link first
Torley Linden: oh, it looks similar... but i like that idea.
Ewan Mureaux: could we not have sensible sizes implented Torley, is it something thats even talked about?
Torley Linden: it's very useful instead of having to rez boxes within boxes (nightmare!)
Random Person: it is very useful nowadays for when I make building designs for people
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: Ewan, what did you have in mind about sensible sizes? :)
Random Person: right
Torley Linden: there was a lot of discussion of megaprims awhile ago but not one neat solution we've been able to do yet because of numerous complexities/side effects.
Lars Donardson: anything below "world size" ?
Random Person: as long as the megaprim is under 100m, it shouldn't have any problems
Ewan Mureaux: well obviously 65km boxes are a bit sily, say 100m
Random Person: in my experience
RawMilk905 Kline: I think he means more flexibility in prim size
Random Person: 100m or under
Random Person: oh
Imnotgoing Sideways would love a 100m limit. (^_^)
Ewan Mureaux: i mean limited to not greater than 100x100x100
Squirrel Wood: 128m
Torley Linden: it's unfortunate megaprims are often used for parcel encroachment and griefing on the mainland. this really taints and sours their creative usages.
Imnotgoing Sideways: Hmmm... That can still be said about linksets too. (=_=)
Ewan Mureaux: but they arent being removed when they're a problem
Random Person: a standard default of 100m would be great, would reduce a lot of SL lag as well
AM Radio: I wish the limit was a cubic measurement not a lateral measurement
Lars Donardson: but there we go again with the boundry box detection and havok4 *frowns*
Ranos Brumer: did someone just do the new im sound?
Torley Linden: Lars, yes, you saw it coming.
Lars Donardson: nope Torley..didn't see it coming and bumped my toe
Torley Linden: and it also ties back to how we'd preferably have general tools to deal with parcel encroachment which would work with all prims.
Lars Donardson: :D
RawMilk905 Kline: I wonder if some kind of rendering priority based on size could prevent them being used in griefing
RawMilk905 Kline: ie megaprims don't rez unless all else is ok
Ewan Mureaux: or amke them like trees, you can only rez them on parcels you own
AM Radio: or allow a sim owner to set the desired prim max size, and simply return any overhanging prims that are larger than 10m
Ewan Mureaux: make*
Ranos Brumer: make anything over 10m be lower priority?
RawMilk905 Kline: like big prims last and only if there are resources
RawMilk905 Kline: yes
Ranos Brumer: but then wouldn't you want smaller objects be lower priority as well
Torley Linden: right now i believe there is culling for smaller objects, e.g., rez a few default cubes, place them next to a 10x10x10 m one, and walk away... the small ones will disappear first
Ranos Brumer: ya
Ranos Brumer: I've seen that
Ewan Mureaux: obviously the konspiracy nutz say "mega prims = less prims used = less space needed = less tier"
Lars Donardson: either that or new functions in the lsl...like llKickServer or llCheckAvailabilityOfUserBrain, Torley?
AM Radio: you can link small prims to an invisble large one to reduce culling effects
AM Radio: on large builds with tons of detail
Torley Linden: Ewan, yeah, there are words in all sorts of clashing directions. like many things in Second Life, i think megaprims are great when used to enhance content that doesn't interfere with others. notably on private estates.
Imnotgoing Sideways: Lunch is over. (T_T)
Imnotgoing Sideways says Bai Baii!!! (^_^)y
Torley Linden: hahaha Lars, that's very funny.
Nidol Slazar: I think there should be a llRequestAgentData(id, DATA_BUTTSIZE)
Torley Linden: take care Imnotgoing!
Lars Donardson: bye Immy
Ewan Mureaux: bye immy
Ranos Brumer: What about.....
Ranos Brumer: A create that thing I'm thinking about button?
Ewan Mureaux: i see it as maybe throwing us a creative bone
Lars Donardson: it's like the blog Torley..LL rolls out new code and the whining starts
Torley Linden: "Immy", i should totally use that shorthand next time.
Lars Donardson: they don't roll out new code..and the whining is still there
Torley Linden: Lars: so true, so true.
Random Person: lol
Torley Linden: "criticism always follows worthwhile action. worthwhile action doesn't necessarily follow criticism."
Emilylo Mayako: its more easy to talk to her by saying Immy /me giggles.
RawMilk905 Kline: it just seems like it could be handled with a priority like that
Ewan Mureaux: yes some people should be made to say at least one positive thing a week or give up their account
Ewan Mureaux: imagine that!
RawMilk905 Kline: Megaprims only if all else is well
Ranos Brumer: Umm can we use the same positive thing each week?
Ewan Mureaux: no
Torley Linden: haha Ewan, well, it's a testament to someone's inner truth when they whine about wanting to be in Second Life... that's a very good thing because if they didn't care, they wouldn't be complaining :)
Lars Donardson: and you find the same names all over...filling up the comments...
Ewan Mureaux: be creative
Torley Linden: i was like GRRR this morning when i couldn't login! but that of course is different than comment spam ;)
RawMilk905 Kline: Torley is right
RawMilk905 Kline: complaints may seem whiney
Torley Linden: and like colors, there are many kinds of "complaints"
Torley Linden: some complaints simply are better than others
Ranos Brumer: Constructive Critisism.
Lars Donardson: yes..but the wrong spot
RawMilk905 Kline: but discourse is valuable
Lars Donardson: go to the office hours and you will see that jira issues ARE dealt with
RawMilk905 Kline: negative and positive
Squirrel Wood: hmm... how about a rule that you can only comment on the blog every 75 posts ?
RawMilk905 Kline: so long as it is kept civil
Torley Linden: yeah, with a comment, i like to think "what can i do next? what do i get out of this?"
Ranos Brumer: lol isn't this a vid tut hour?
Ewan Mureaux: well constructive critiscism or having a little joke is fine but constant whining by the same handful sort of turned me off some things i was concerned about
Lars Donardson: agreed upon Squirrel
Torley Linden: i think useless redundancy is stupid
Nidol Slazar: "LL SUCKS GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY EVEN THOUGH I CAN'T STOP PLAYING"
Squirrel Wood: or, twice every 12 hours...
Torley Linden: Ranos, oh, we can talk about that too, but so many topics connect to my job, Resident Enlightenment :)
Torley Linden: hahahah Nidol
Ranos Brumer: lol
Aimee Trescothick: Redundancy is redundant
Torley Linden: some would say Second Life is addictive
Torley Linden: ;D
Ranos Brumer: Bah
Torley Linden: here's another thing to think about:
Lars Donardson: melons are ..SL isn't..I can sleep 4 hours without it
Ranos Brumer: Just cause I' stayed on her for 24 hours once doesn't mean its addictive
Master Nestler: i cant stop playing SL
RawMilk905 Kline: I would say it's a better addiction than most
Torley Linden: hearing-impaired people who are upset about voice chat... yet, why don't they consider that visually-impaired people have a tough time with text chat?
Aimee Trescothick: Plurk is my current addiction lol
Master Nestler: more addictive then drugs
Nidol Slazar: lmao
Torley Linden: in all the complaints i've seen about voice chat, i've nary seen more selfless ones considering other sorts of disabilities and differently-abled benefits
Ranos Brumer: Thats because everyone has the mindset that their problems are more important then others
Ewan Mureaux: drugs have an easier come down
RawMilk905 Kline: better than conspicuous consumption
Lars Donardson: strange..I never read any complaints of visually impaired complaining SL not being audible....
Torley Linden: Ranos, very true. it's a human problem, not a specific Second Life problem.
Aimee Trescothick: hearing what people had for lunch or that they just fed their cat is strangely compelling
Torley Linden: Lars, oh, i've received some! believe me!
Nidol Slazar: isn't there voice to text software?
Torley Linden: Nidol: like Dragon Naturally Speaking, yeah.
Lars Donardson slaps forehead
RawMilk905 Kline: better than selling one's body for crack or what have you
Ewan Mureaux has to put on an english accent to use dragon :(
Torley Linden: that's why it's important to be specific, when someone cares about "Accessibility", what are they referring to?
Torley Linden: i started http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Accessibility if anyone wants to add any resources there. :)
RawMilk905 Kline: just make sure you get up and stretch occasionally
Torley Linden: so true, you don't wanna be a lame-ass couch veg, RawMilk... hehe.
RawMilk905 Kline: and get some exercise
Nidol Slazar: I'm ashamed to admit it but I think you type faster than I Torley :(
Torley Linden: Nidol, there is no shame!
Dakota Schwade: Hey, I'm on a couch :-)
Torley Linden: hahahahaha
Ranos Brumer: I use to be able to type rather quickly.
Torley Linden: touche
Emilylo Mayako giggles.
Torley Linden: ;)
Nidol Slazar: rol
Torley Linden: i type with two fingers, and this is pretty inappropriate to some.
Nidol Slazar: rofl even
Torley Linden: i just my thumb on the space bar, i freakin never learned to type "right"
Torley Linden: oh that was a horribly constructed sentence
Nidol Slazar: :P
Ranos Brumer: Its to be expected.
Ewan Mureaux typos a lot cos he has fat hands
Lars Donardson: one thing I'd like to see is more "community standards info" - hands down type - being fed to new users Torley
Torley Linden: it's funny how typing deteriorates on the computer... first, the capital letters leave. and then, so does punctuation.
Random Person: lol
Ranos Brumer: Agreeed.
Torley Linden: Lars: can you please share more about that? i presume you mean something more involved than showing the Community Standards on first login?
Nidol Slazar: do you also use caps lock instead of shift?
Torley Linden: NIDOL SOMETIMES I DO
Aimee Trescothick: I'm campaigning to save the semicolon
Torley Linden: but other times no
Nidol Slazar: :O
Ewan Mureaux: a semicolonoscopy?
Torley Linden: i like to use semicolons, but all too often i find my pauses extend that much more, and end up resorting to em dashes — for crying out loud!
RawMilk905 Kline: two fingers? ah, my illusions are shattered
Aimee Trescothick: it's much neglected and few people know how to use it :D
Torley Linden: hahahaha
Torley Linden: that sounds like a DIRTY WORD
RawMilk905 Kline: or are they enhanced?
Lars Donardson: exactly...if you want to start playing a "game" you normally go "yeah, alright ...and click yes"
Torley Linden: what do you think of this generalization: "most people can't be bothered to read"
Lars Donardson: exactly
Torley Linden: i know the G-Team frequently has people who claim "i didn't know there was a Terms of Service!" or whatever
RawMilk905 Kline: I have friends like that
Nidol Slazar: whoa is that Lugia
Ewan Mureaux: should have 5 screens "like seriously read this"..... "you clicked to fast read again".... " i really mean it read or i;#'ll tel your mum"
RawMilk905 Kline: who insist I use voice
Random Person: is everyone familiar with the "Start Menu - charmap, Arial Unicode MS" characters
Torley Linden: haha Random i use some of those for thrills
Random Person: yes, lol
Natok Dryke: Hewwo :3
Ranos Brumer: ha
Torley Linden: hewwo! :3 is one of my fave emoticons, it's like a cat's cute mouth
Natok Dryke: aw.. im late, sry for fallin in
Torley Linden: Ewan, HAHAHA that reminds me of old prankin' programs i used to use
Nidol Slazar: or a butt with two dots above it
Torley Linden: i had this prank collection that spewed vomit out of a cursor, moved dialog boxes so you wouldn't click it, etc.
Ewan Mureaux: hahaha
Random Person: lol where is that

Torley Linden: *big fan of Shpongle here*
Torley Linden: i like so much goa/psy-trance
Torley Linden: Shpongle's most recent album is a MASTERPIECE, start to finish
Lars Donardson: it shows in the colors Torley
Lars Donardson: hehe
Random Person: TOrley, what type of educational backround do you have that has helped you create such tutorials
Squirrel Wood will have to get it on emusic then
Astro Inglewood: Torly can i have ur bear?
Torley Linden: Ewan and other Monkey Island fans, you might get a kick out of http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/404489973/
Torley Linden: Random, simply put: it was sheer practical, hands-on experience.
Torley Linden: i am a music producer by trade
RawMilk905 Kline: Torley I saw you on facebook and sent an invite earlier
Torley Linden: but it really comes from the heart, wanting to teach others
Lars Donardson: oh...bear..did I hear the magic word?

Emilylo Mayako: at leaste SL gas isnt smelly toos (^_^)
Torley Linden: oh my gosh Squirrel, i think most people would spell that wrong
Squirrel Wood: XD
Torley Linden: haha, "Coming soon to a Second Life near Torley Linden: smelly particles!"
Random Person: what graphics card do you use currently, I am trying to find out what is the best compatible one
Nidol Slazar: It was totally Torley
Emilylo Mayako: eeww hehe
RawMilk905 Kline: yeah, smelll is not one of my favorite senses
Random Person: for SL
Ranos Brumer: back
Lars Donardson: I'd like to come back to the idea of the "treasure hunt" for newbies...how about having something like your videos you will have to watch through because the "hint" for the next riddle/task is at the end ?
Ranos Brumer: I'm sure you all missed me.
Random Person: wb Ranos
Nidol Slazar: Yeah, I'll aim better next time
Torley Linden: Lars, i like that idea. or putting secret messages and clues.
Ranos Brumer: I see an ominous black cloud in the distance
Torley Linden: assemble the parts!
Astro Inglewood: Torley i went to The Ivory Tower
Lars Donardson: yes
Dakota Schwade: We would need decoder rings, too.
Ranos Brumer: I love the Ivory Tower
Squirrel Wood: Audiosurf :p
Ewan Mureaux: that stuffs gonna peeve the business users the lab tries to encourage to join though, no?
Squirrel Wood: Shpongle is oh so very Audiosurfable!
Torley Linden: Astro, oh, and how did you like it there?
Lars Donardson: that could familiarize new players with settings, contols etc pp and also get some basic "do's and do nots over"
Astro Inglewood: Very nice
Torley Linden: Ewan, what stuff?
Ewan Mureaux: so we'd need corporate signup/login and casual signup/login
Torley Linden: i've seen videos of AudioSurf, haven't played that yet
Torley Linden: i really like music/rhythm games, was a big fan of Parappa back in "the day"
Ewan Mureaux: like say i'm only signing up to come to a meeting, i dont wana know about "the game"
Torley Linden: ahhh yes. that's something a lot of Lindens are thinking about next -- different entry pathways.
Natok Dryke: hey pink :)
Ewan Mureaux: but if i'm here to be a resident then i wanna know more
Astro Inglewood: Torley
Torley Linden: one size doesn't fit all and i personally believe a lot in focus
Neptune Quan: Torley got PSN name or i shounld say got ps3?
Lars Donardson: same approach as with the viewer after the nex, correct Torley?
Ewan Mureaux: i think the business user should be called something like"commuters" they come in to work and leave
Torley Linden: i don't have a PS3 but i'd like to play Metal Gear Solid 4 eventually!
Lars Donardson: *next
Nidol Slazar: Torley strikes me as a Wii kind of guy
Torley Linden: Lars: same approach as wha? sorry, i think i'm missing something
Neptune Quan: yeah
Torley Linden: hahah Nidol, i do think Miyamoto is a genius
Nidol Slazar: he is :O
Torley Linden: i like the work of Hideo Kojima very much too
Lars Donardson: diversity..in logins as well as viewers
Neptune Quan: Super
Torley Linden: Lars, oh, yes... more skins, yes.
Ranos Brumer: lol WIsh I could find a Wii
Lars Donardson: the "making it all simple" approach in the RC is not really the way
Torley Linden: now that RC13 has satisfied the requirement of being able to choose between "Classic" and "Dazzle/Silver" skins
Ranos Brumer: they just released that in the rc 12 viewer today
Torley Linden: one of the biggest challenges of Second Life is appealing to such a broad audience, where some things about the platform turn off other people
Entering god mode, level 200
RawMilk905 Kline: one of my concerns in it's growth is that it not be dumbed down
floatythingy AO: 3091 bytes free
Connecting to in-world Voice Chat...
Connected
RawMilk905 Kline: to attract more users
Torley Linden: DARN YOU SMARTHEAP... MORE LIKE DUMBHEAP!
Ranos Brumer: wb
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: thank you :0
Torley Linden: :D
AM Radio: the current registration api allows you to tp new users to your own island. you can setup your own orientation trail, helping new users focus on the task you wish them to perform in world. further you can define custom xui on the client to "hide" features for newbs as well as reskin the thing. I suppose it depends on the time you wan tto invest
AM Radio: it may be more apt for an enterprise level investment
Lars Donardson: Smartheap = Smartshit
Torley Linden: hahahahaha
Ranos Brumer: Big bird left
Random Person: ℒℴℓ
Torley Linden: i'm going to file a complaint! or better yet, let our devs know how disruptive this is making my inworld experience
Torley Linden: HAHAHAH Random
Torley Linden: that's great, a handwriting LOL
Ewan Mureaux: flame the blog T
Ewan Mureaux: go for it
Lars Donardson: :p
earring with emoter: Could not find animation 'zunge'
earring with emoter: Could not find animation 'zunge'.
Aimee Trescothick: hi peter
Ranos Brumer: Hey Random you look a little dry. Need some water?
Random Person: this is a prototype skin for a mummy avatar im making, just was too lazy to switch it up
AM Radio: Torley any way we can get coordinates where a user presses a prim face for the media browser?
Ranos Brumer: lol ok
Random Person: lol, yep
Torley Linden: AM, not that i know of offhand... what are you trying to make?
AM Radio: clickable interface
RawMilk905 Kline: what do you mean?
AM Radio: I have been using a grid solution of prims
Astro Inglewood: TORLEY
Torley Linden: AM, have you seen https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-519
Random Person: currently help developing an ancient egyptian sim
AM Radio: and a socket server
AM Radio: with ajax
Torley Linden: YES ASTRO
RawMilk905 Kline: you can script that sort of
Aimee Trescothick: touch position is on the way
Astro Inglewood: Where did you get your mouse at?
Astro Inglewood: With the yellow thing
AM Radio: I iwll look at this link. thanks Torley
Aimee Trescothick: Qarl mentioned it's in the release queue at his office hours last week
Torley Linden: you're welcome AM :)
Torley Linden: oh Astro, Camtasia :)
RawMilk905 Kline: I use a texture switcher and my media texure
Astro Inglewood: Link?
Torley Linden: Astro, yes: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Vidtut_process
Torley Linden: Aimee, thx for filling in those details
Torley Linden: i haven't been so involved with the Issue Tracker recently
Velvet Sexy Ladies AO: Could not find animation 'Velvet-SexyStand#5'
RawMilk905 Kline: only thing is you have to press stop to cut off the audio
Velvet Sexy Ladies AO: Could not find animation 'Velvet-SexyStand#5'.
Astro Inglewood: So http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Vidtut_process?
Random Person gave you Ancient Egyptian Sim (Under Construction) Pic.
Torley Linden: i have details on how i make video tutorials and my settings, yes!
Natok Dryke: torley... would it be possible to add a feature for validated residents, to vote for your favo linden? would be cool to give feedback
Random Person: oh, cool
Torley Linden: oh very nice, warm picture
Lars Donardson lets Torley write a 100 times "I must visit the jira regularly·
Torley Linden: that is so nice :-)
RawMilk905 Kline: is the machinima capture program you use expensive?
Ewan Mureaux: yeah but Natok think what happens when they start getting all pissy cos you didnt vote for them
Random Person: thanks
Torley Linden: RawMilk, it has a 30-day trial, US$300 afterwards but there are free tools too
Natok Dryke: ewan... like socrates linden because no one likes him? :P
Ewan Mureaux: *piratebay* cough cough
RawMilk905 Kline: less than photoshop anyway
Torley Linden: Natok, i think that might be tough because it'd breed jealousy of the nasty sort, which i'm definitely against, but positive feedback is ALWAYS welcome, if you can let a Linden directly know
Ewan Mureaux: well i duno I <3 maggie imagine you you submit a ticket, someone else picks it up, they're all upset you didnt pick them
Torley Linden: internally i set up a company page encouraging Lindens to treasure and collect positive comments sent their way for general feel-goodness and review time
Natok Dryke: oh jealousy on the one side... but quality management on the other side
Torley Linden: if we celebrate each other and encourage lifting up one another, that's the best
Torley Linden: it's true that mediocrity should NOT be rewarded
Aimee Trescothick: yeah, some Linden's have to do stuff that's unpopular simply because it's the nature of their role
Torley Linden: it's gotta be a win-win thing...
Lars Donardson: well..ppl say they don't like Prospero..I do...one just has to meet the guys/gurls inworld
Torley Linden: Aimee, yup, and some are easier to name than others because they're more public...
Sorbet Sorbet: no mediocrity rewards? I'm screwed :/
Aimee Trescothick shoots the stray apostrophe
Aimee Trescothick: yeah
Torley Linden: like G-Team takes on tough things, and of course dumbass griefers badmouth them, even if they're totally in the wrong
Squirrel Wood: Torley, keep r0xx0r1n6 peoples s0xx0rz
Saijanai Kuhn: Grats on getting your videos mentioned all over the world, Torely
Torley Linden: thanks Sai :)
Torley Linden: i get blamed for things i have nothing to do with, lol... like when Dazzle came out, i helped with communication but some people inaccurately presumed i designed the colors
Random Person: gladly dragging prims in badly lagging sims
Torley Linden: i was like "heck no! if i had made Dazzle, it would be pink and green."
Aimee Trescothick: LOL
Torley Linden: that's not a hard thing to figure out
AM Radio: LOL
Natok Dryke: hm... i thought more about the way how they deal... i mean for example plexus or trinity linden... you feel that they care about your worries on the g-team meetings
Lars Donardson: yes..I got a youtube viewer on my Gianfar Kidz place with them...and it's being used pretty often
Torley Linden: but i take it in stride... it's important to have a good sense of humor
Peter Stindberg thinks "Sounds familiar"
Ewan Mureaux: i almost did a pink and green one but then lost interest
Saijanai Kuhn: heh. I think it was a miscommunication. we were saying don't use pitch black and pure white to avoid too high a contrast for people with neurological disorders
Torley Linden: oh cool Lars,
Aimee Trescothick: people get mixed up between disliking the person and disliking their work too
Torley Linden: i really like the Resident wave of innovation with YouTube players, it was pretty crafty...
Ranos Brumer: There we go
Random Person: why release only 2 skins though
Torley Linden: yes Aimee, and although they're connected, like... even i must adhere to LL legal policies and such
Torley Linden: Random, more to come in the future
Random Person: yea thats what i thought
Torley Linden: especially Resident-created ones
Saijanai Kuhn still wants windlight controlled skins
AM Radio: seriously, within the xui folder you can go crazy anyways with skins and menus anyways. it should be documented for resident created...
Torley Linden: http://youtubemp4.com/ is useful too, for playing YouTube videos inworld... prob is, many tools like this are kinda flaky...
Torley Linden: they disappear...
Lars Donardson thinks it sounds like Torley was slapped upside da head by LL at one point
Lars Donardson giggles
Torley Linden: Lars, haha, well, i'll give a frank example of that...
Torley Linden: previously with my video tutorials when they had a louder color theme at the beginning and the end
Saijanai Kuhn: the goth animated skin with blood dripping down the windows
Torley Linden: and i wanted to make them look more official but no one was available to help
Torley Linden: so i was like, "i don't have time to do a redesign now, i want to keep making videos!"
Torley Linden: thankfully Pastrami, Bub, and Cornelius came along and we worked out a solution
Torley Linden: but it was hard to make sure the logo was used legally
Torley Linden: e.g., there's a sparkle effect and i think there was some concern over that
Torley Linden: whether that was distorting the logo too much
Torley Linden: but in the end it was fine
Torley Linden: i just don't like to overcomplicate stuff
Torley Linden: life (and Second Life) has enough problems... why add more? :)
Random Person: i would like to see you work with advanced scripters to create official in-depth LSL scripting tutorial videos
Lars Donardson: I gave up on that bit and stay away from logo and such
Lars Donardson: I like to be creative and NOT study law
Random Person: that would be very nice
Torley Linden: Random, i'd like to... or some sort of mixed-mode format where code can be copied from a page with a video showing the inworld actions needed. since Flash video makes text horribly blurry.
Random Person: yea
Squirrel Wood: I would like to see a way to make sensor cones visible to the scripter...
Random Person: i'm sure you will find a clever way to go about it
Random Person: if you choose to do it
Torley Linden: yes Squirrel, that sort of visual indicator helps when it's hard to think about "44 m away?! wha!?!"
Torley Linden: :D
Torley Linden: i'm in touch with other video tutorial makers too in other places and for other software,
Torley Linden: seeing what innovations they come up with
Saijanai Kuhn: Torley have you seen what they do for metanomics with the chat scrolling below the video? NOt a youtube video but would make things much more clear
RawMilk905 Kline: I even go so far as to only refer to this as "here"and "this place"
AM Radio: hey torley for flash video, youtube does suck, but if you're coverting yourself you need a pro converter that can handle 2pass vbr
AM Radio: for clear text
AM Radio: just sayin
Random Person: yes, please make the LSL tutorials, lol
Random Person: lots of people looking for such a thing
Torley Linden: AM, i use the multi-pass MP4 encoder QuickTime has (which is also used on Apple Trailers) and i upload via http://tubemogul.com
Ewan Mureaux: howcast is supposed to let you annotate and stuff but not looked into it properly
Torley Linden: i love hearing demand for things
Natok Dryke: im currently doing in german... because books about lsl are terrible :~
Torley Linden: i plan to do a "Joy of Building" series because, after all the new-user stuff, that's the next demanded
Torley Linden: so look for that to be available sometime this quarter :)
Ewan Mureaux: while sporting a beard
Saijanai Kuhn: sounds great
AM Radio: huh. well the codec is basically h264 so the same as mov. odd its blurrier.
Miken Ansar: That sounds really good.
AM Radio ponders
Saijanai Kuhn: now, can you gt them to bring back puppeteering?
Random Person: i think the one thing Second Life has failed to do is provide user-friendly scripting tutorials, and I think video is the ebst way to make such a thing, especially with the style you currently use
Squirrel Wood: joy of building? You should make an appearance at the Iron Builder contest then ^^
Lars Donardson: did you check the Kids5B sims Torley?
Torley Linden: Sai, not for awhile i think...
Torley Linden: Lars, i visited their exhibits at Alton Icarus and nearby :)
Saijanai Kuhn: The best programming tutrials ever made were the old Apple programmer workshop tutorials.
Torley Linden: Random, thanks! i'd like to see more LSL knowledge bridged together... i agree there's a gap.
Torley Linden: i haven't seen those Sai, are those on the web archived somewhere?
Saijanai Kuhn: I doubt it they're probably not playable on my mac any more either :-(
Natok Dryke: hm random... problem is not being user-friendly.. problem is to explain that people have invest time in the first time... scripting or programming in general is painfull in the first time.. and most ppl stop at that point
Squirrel Wood gave you IRON BUILDER INFO!!.
Random Person: right
Saijanai Kuhn: But they talked you through each line of code as it was being typed in and explained what it was to do
Natok Dryke: you have to help em to stay motivated
Torley Linden: thanks for info, Squirrel
Random Person: but TOrley is perfecting his method of combining his visual/verbal skills together to get his points across through his tutorials
Random Person: maybe he can come up with a good LSL tutorial system
RawMilk905 Kline: I know very little scripting
Natok Dryke: hm i like the video2brain style of o'reilly
Saijanai Kuhn: haven't seen those
Torley Linden: another thing i've wrestled with is subtitles... QuickTime has support but it's not universal to other formats
RawMilk905 Kline: but what I have done has been hunt it down
Ewan Mureaux: like batman forever
Saijanai Kuhn: But I think these predate OReily publishing
Torley Linden: i'll have to check out video2brain, i may have seen them but don't recognize the name
RawMilk905 Kline: and try until it works
Ewan Mureaux: oh not that video to brain sorry
AM Radio: I went bonkers when quicktime killed swf playback. grrrrr
Squirrel Wood: The last Iron Builder challenge was "reinvent the wheel" using only prism type prims ^^
Saijanai Kuhn: in fact, I suspect they were the basis for a lot of tutorials were done in the mid 80's
Torley Linden: i like when something useful becomes so influential across a broader range...
RawMilk905 Kline: excuse me folks, I have an SLLU meeting to go to now
AM Radio: do I need to say something positive now? to retain my net affect?
Random Person: the one thing SL has not provided its users with, is the user-friendly tutorials on how to use their LSL coding, probably best done with video tutorials with torley's style, residents seem to accept his style of describing a topic
RawMilk905 Kline: As always Thank you Torley!
Torley Linden: thanks to each and all of you for being here with me today. i've gotta for now but thanks for chatting! :D
AM Radio: yes thanks Torley
Lars Donardson: bye Raw
Sorbet Sorbet: thanks, bye
Squirrel Wood: Have a grrrrreat weekend Torley!
Lars Donardson: ummm..
Ewan Mureaux: see ya next week Torley
Random Person: alright, have a good day
Lars Donardson points to his titles and grins
Natok Dryke: hm in fact i missed too that point how to start... took some time to get in
Squirrel Wood: And let it be known that you was missed at the wednesday triage
Aimee Trescothick: bye Torley :)
Emilylo Mayako: bye Torley!! take care
Torley Linden: =^_^= bai 4 nao! aw thanks!
Natok Dryke: bye torley
Torley Linden: *waves and smiles cheerfully*
