BIG thanxies to Geneko Nemeth for providing this transcript after Torley's hard drive crapped out!

Squirrel Wood: Woof.
Geneko Nemeth: Something isn't right here.
Geneko Nemeth: Something isn't right here.
Geneko Nemeth: Like, why was my camera following your back?

Imnotgoing Sideways: \(^_^)/
Imnotgoing Sideways: Konnichiwa <Hi> (^_^)
Torley Linden: FRIENDLY GREETINGS!
Geneko Nemeth: Ahh!
Harleen Gretzky: Hi Torley :)
Torley Linden: ah yes, the term "Gridnaut" *smiles at Harleen* i hope to see that popularized more!
Stephen Posaner: hey torley
Melody Paperdoll: torley!
Imnotgoing Sideways: OMG! I hope some of that face hasn't loaded yet. (O_O)
Imnotgoing Sideways: I'm still seeing avatar eyes. (^_^)
Torley Linden: hahahaha
Torley Linden: <.<
Torley Linden: hey Imny, Stephen, Melody, everyone
Torley Linden: glad you could join me... what a momentous time it is
Imnotgoing Sideways: Have you tried the cross-grid jump yet? (^_^)
Harleen Gretzky: Just got back from several OGP sims :)
Eve Petlyakov smiles
Torley Linden: oooh i haven't done that but i saw Whump's post
Imnotgoing Sideways: I don't know how I feel about being ruthered though... My only avatar upload I can do is a skin, and well, you know how that could go. (>_<)
Harleen Gretzky: Was pretty awesome
Alca Magic: captain?
Eve Petlyakov: weeeee!
Cinco Pizzicato: greetings.
Harleen Gretzky: I never got out of the cloud stage, but I was using my older less powerful PC
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: howdy y'all
Torleyite (CLICK ME FOR TIPS!) shouts: Did you reinstall Second Life and want to hide all the first-run popups? Go to Edit menu > Preferences > Popups and click the 'Skip' button.
Eve Petlyakov: Cloud stage is pretty
Torley Linden: ahhh yes... the cloud! if you want to make your own Ruthy cloud...
Torley Linden: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Ruth
Eve Petlyakov: I saw that on your flickr this morning ^_^
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: a watermelon Jawa, nice
Imnotgoing Sideways: Could it be that you wouldn't get out of cloud stage until you loaded a shape asset? I wonder if it would actually work out. (o.o)
Torley Linden: there were some curiosities, and so, i asked Brent
Torley Linden: yes... i am indeed a watermelon Jawa
Torley Linden: hahahaha
Alca Magic: Howdy, how are you?
Swan Dunner: I get iit now :D
Geneko Nemeth: Hmm... but one is supposed to upload their own texture for this? Nobody contributed an UUID or something?
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: watermelons on Tatooine .. hmmm
Nostrum Forder: I miss physics that work. Can we have them back?
CaptJosh Au: Not that hard to generate glowing white particles, I would think.
Geneko Nemeth: Not the particular one...
CaptJosh Au: Now something more complex, like something that looks like a transporter effect...
Harleen Gretzky: Yeah, when I TP'd it always told me I was missing body assests
Geneko Nemeth: OMG Mathaios :)
Alca Magic: hello torey
Torley Linden: details always please!
Torley Linden: Geneko, well, there's a UUID with the particle script, or you can get the object inworld
Emzy Enzyme: hi, oh will my macbook handle this ?!? :)
Torley Linden: ACTIONABLES FIRST!
Swan Dunner: Ouch
Geneko Nemeth: I've been using that echidna avatar for a while.
Torley Linden: =D
Torley Linden: mmm echidna, reminds me of... Knuckles.
Al Sonic: "body assets"?
Swan Dunner: It might Emzy
Swan Dunner: TUrn your graphcis to low
Torley Linden: it's actually a whitish-blue sort of "toxic" particle clou
Geneko Nemeth never has priorities straight.
Mathaios Brandenburg: It's stil my favorite. Heh.
Harleen Gretzky: Yeah, when you are stuck in cloud avatar and TP to an OPenSim
Stephen Posaner: this was my first av shape and skin
CaptJosh Au: Ok, here's a real question. Why is it sometimes I get errors about gestures not loading, but if I go into my inventory, turn them off, then back on, they're fine?
Al Sonic: 'twas funn, I actually found the word "echidna" missing from the Firefox spellcheck dictionary.
Stephen Posaner: lol
Al Sonic: (funny)
Monalisa Robbiani: heya
Alca Magic: Torley, how do you make the videos?
Torley Linden: CaptJosh: that sounds like a workaround related to a longstanding bug on the Issue Tracker; i don't know what causes that... i wonder if renaming them makes them work fine for you too?
CaptJosh Au: Haven't tried that...
Swan Dunner: lol
Swan Dunner: I am very dis-combobulated
Torley Linden: gestures are an oddly crufty area; i find them fun, but they're fundamentally unchanged for years.
Torley Linden: Monalisa and Mayumi those are awesome outfits! i wish i had one like that!
Swan Dunner: sure as teh hoooo gesture
Nostrum Forder: Yeah, well, that’s just, like your opinion, man.
CaptJosh Au: Oh, the weird thing, they show up as deactivated, but you still have to deactivate them first.
Swan Dunner: Hoooo!
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: "crufty" ...
Swan Dunner: Hooo!! Hooo!! Hooo!!
Swan Dunner: Hoooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Monalisa Robbiani: hehe
Mayumi Fride: Wheeee! ^.^
Monalisa Robbiani: mayumi will pass you one:)
Monalisa Robbiani: na los
Imnotgoing Sideways steps out of the TP spot. (>_<)
Swan Dunner: Does anyone know how old the HOOO Gesture is :S
Torley Linden: CaptJosh: i've run into variations of that... and times where gestures look deactivated but they're really active.
Swan Dunner: Hoooo!
Torley Linden: always delightful to see colorful avatars and self-expression at my office hours
Sylectra Darwin: grin
Swan Dunner: :D
Alca Magic: Torley how do you make the videos
Imnotgoing Sideways: Daleks... For example. (^_^)
Torley Linden: Alca that domino's a lot of fun... i have a step-by-step guide here:
Torley Linden: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Vidtut_process
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: I got a comment/question about anti-aliasing ...
Geneko Nemeth: Argh, Torley beat me to it. >_>
Torley Linden: it's a 4-phase process of (1) film, (2) edit, (3) render, (4) publish
Swan Dunner: lol
CaptJosh Au: You forgot the swearing when one of the steps doesn't work right.
CaptJosh Au grins
Geneko Nemeth: What about the scripting part?
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: why does anti-aliasing also affect the UI?
Sylectra Darwin: Torley I tried Jing and it saved as a .swf file - what can I use to edit this?
Geneko Nemeth: I mean, planning.
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
Geneko Nemeth: Why should anti-aliasing affect the UI?
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: it does
Torley Linden: i remember some past bugs with that...
Torley Linden: it's desirable for antialiasing to make the positioning arrows smoother
Torley Linden: during the RC, it didn't for a time, but they looked very rough
Torley Linden: there have been some antialiasing-UI bugs, but i haven't seen clear ones more recently
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: no, I'm talking about the chat window and such
Alca Magic: thx
Eve Petlyakov: I've recently discovered that a lot of people In know have had their "Beacons always on" and had no idea why they were seeing red. One gal was seeing them for the last 5 months (she claims) until she gave me a picture and I told her the fix.
Torley Linden: oh my gosh Eve! that's not good; reminds me of Show Updates accidentally on
Eve Petlyakov: yeah
CaptJosh Au: Here's a strange one that I should have put up during the RC cycle. It seems like using avatar impostors actually lowers my framerate. Has anyone else reported this?
Geneko Nemeth: I had worse; I turned occulsion off for a while...
Nostrum Forder: Me
Eve Petlyakov: it surprises me they didn't say somethign before
Jacen Merryman: That one happened to me w/the updates.
Torley Linden: CaptJosh: what does it show when you view expanded Fast Timers?
Nostrum Forder: Avatar Imposters are a net loss for me.
Eve Petlyakov: yup...that's what I've been told too Jacen
CaptJosh Au: View what?
Solo Mornington: there's a 'push here to revert everything' button, right?
CaptJosh Au: I don't even know what those are...
Swan Dunner: I jsut realsied im sitting inside a melon. :S
Eve Petlyakov: =^.^= *Nahm Nahm Nahm!*
Moog McMahon: Hi Torley, when will viewer 1.20 become a compulsory update? SOme of my friends have had problems and have had to revert to the previous version?
CaptJosh Au: I just know from Ctrl+Shift+1 that I watched my framerate increase when I turned impostors off.
Torley Linden: Debug Help - http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Debug_Help
Torley Linden: what would help, if impostors seems slower, is to check which "colors" of the bar are being taken up more
Al Sonic: Doesn't it usually take a while for the latest viewer version to become the only one supported?
Torley Linden: Moog, i don't know because i haven't heard a date on that... and yes Al, we're much more "gentle" about that now
Torley Linden: (relatively speaking, those who remember what it was like last year... was rigid by comparison... and who remembers Update Wednesdays? :O)
Moog McMahon: cool! They are just worried that's all! I thinks its a PC problem they've got to be honest
Imnotgoing Sideways has heard stories. (o.O)
CaptJosh Au: Oh god, don't even get me started on grid update wednesdays, with troubles that went on until friday...
Torley Linden: i hope it'll be alright for them, Moog
Moog McMahon: I'll try and help them out
Torley Linden: yeah CaptJosh, i was there for that too... XD that's why it's so important to compare improvements that happened over time
Moog McMahon: cheer :)
Torley Linden: without that, we have no sense of history
Moog McMahon: cheers :)
CaptJosh Au: What was that timers thing you mentioned again?
Geneko Nemeth: Fast Timers, Ctrl+Alt+9
Eve Petlyakov: Someone can have my seat, I need to run. Nice seeing you all. Love your tutorials Torley, you rock my SL ^_^
CaptJosh Au: What does that do?
Geneko Nemeth: Wait, wrong.
Torley Linden: i wish there was an easier translation of Fast Timers, it shows the "time" each aspect of the viewer is taking up
Ash Meersand: Hi!
Geneko Nemeth: Ctrl+Shift+9
Torley Linden: aw thank you Eve, take care and thanks for coming by!
Torley Linden: and welcome to Here, each of you :)
CaptJosh Au: Ok, lets see what impostors does with this...
JenzZa Misfit: hi hi everyone :) I think I am here * checks feet *
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: like textures, vs. rendering ...
Moog McMahon: :) Had to meet the person that taught me everytyhing via the vids :)
Torley Linden: this is a good sized crowd for impostors... also try lowering Avatar Mesh Detail slider because that makes impostors happen at nearer distances
Torley Linden: awww Moog! =)
Torley Linden: glad to hear that
Torley Linden: ColonelKernel: yup!
Geneko Nemeth: But we are too close for it to work -_-
Alca Magic: Torley, what computer do you have?
JenzZa Misfit: helloooooo Torley !
Torley Linden: Geneko, well, you can zoom the camera out
Alca Magic: or what kind
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: Here's some wisdom for you:
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: Marital Freedom: The liberty that allows a husband to do exactly that which his wife pleases. -- Anonymous
Omegadon Aeon: Hey torley i was chatting with your wife the other day, Wanted to know if you saw that Eve avatar on SLX
CaptJosh Au: I just saw an increase in the greys and oranges... testing againg to see if I see more.
Torley Linden: Alca, http://torley.com/whats-in-torleys-new-computer :) and more details can be found on my blog
JenzZa Misfit: I just got my spacenavigator flycam doodad ! woot !
Torley Linden: i did Omegadon, thanks!
Geneko Nemeth: I think avatar imposter trigger distanceshould also be affected on how many avatars are nearby/rendered.
Alca Magic: cuz, i need a new one
Monalisa Robbiani: and by rendering cost
Geneko Nemeth: Maybe not by rendering cost...
Torley Linden: i have so much fun with SpaceNavigator, it's really nice for dynamic angles
CaptJosh Au: I think the oranges spike when a new typing anim starts. Not sure...
CaptJosh Au: No that's network...
Torley Linden: there are going to be improvements to impostors, they're planned... Runitai Linden (who coded it) knows more
Mathaios Brandenburg: Just got a space navigator an hour ago. Trying to get used to it. Heh.
Squirrel Wood: Torley, you see the "pants" I'm wearing? with the red text on them? That's the latest issue I'm having
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Ash Meersand: What do you do if a piece of clothing gets stuck as another, and rebake only works temporarily, so it changes back to the other piece of clothing upon wearing it again or logging into Second Life?
Geneko Nemeth is stuck witha joystick that doesn't Pitch or Roll.
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: I have a SpaceNavigatore, but unplugged it because I was having problems...
CaptJosh Au: I'm not sure. Maybe it's that impostors move in a slideshow fashion.
Torley Linden: sometimes i intentionally put a paperweight leaning on my SpaceNavigator... so it automatically moves my camera, it's kinda weird and disorienting XD
JenzZa Misfit: sweet ... I have a new PC arriving tomorrow .. quad core
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
Monalisa Robbiani: create a new set of underwear, save as new outfit. taht will reset your skin.
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: there was no "set" position ... I was always moving
JenzZa Misfit: it makes me dizzy , Torley ! SpcNav !
Torley Linden: Ash, hmmm... is it moddable clothing? i wonder if going into Appearance, then modding it slightly, saving, then setting it back to how it was would help?
Squirrel Wood: Monalisa, I know. but this is what the client baked on login
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: but I am going to try again
Torley Linden: if SpaceNavigator seems too "autonomous" then you need to calibrate it via the drivers
Torley Linden: that will lock it still
Stephen Posaner: does any one know if you can yse a PS2 controller in SL
Monalisa Robbiani: changing your height by 1 spot alos helps
Geneko Nemeth: Stephen, Kinda....
Squirrel Wood: editing appearance or re-wearing it fixes it
JenzZa Misfit: ...calibrate ... hmmm
Torley Linden: Stephen, i've heard of that via a USB adapter... haven't done it myself
Ash Meersand: Yes, I'll try that
Torley Linden: i have a Saitek P2600 which is very Playstation 2-like
Alca Magic: y Graphics card doesnt meet the mnimum critearia to run sl right
Torley Linden: which is yours Alca?
Geneko Nemeth: The Roll, Pitch, Yaw needs some explaination.
Alca Magic: my*
Swan Dunner: Dam crashes
Alca Magic: i have no idea
Imnotgoing Sideways: Heh... Someone should write up some native Wiimote drivers. (^_^)
Ash Meersand: If you don't mind me asking, Torley, what's your usual download speed in Second Life?
Torley Linden: Imny, maybe we should get Johnny Ming!
Imnotgoing Sideways: Totally! (^_^)
Swan Dunner: 1.0MB
Torley Linden: Ash, slower than i'd hope. i have it set to 1500 kbps bandwidth (maximum) but it typically only goes 750 kbps-1000 kbps sustained...
Torley Linden: i have plenty of bandwidth left over, because when i download the viewer, it goes at 1 MB (megabyte) a second!
Swan Dunner: Im on somthing called the "Crumlin" Exchange throguh BT. Its dead slow
Squirrel Wood: I have 25mbit available
Torley Linden: in theory my connection is 8000 mbps so i should have plenty of room... but yeah, i wish stuff in Second Life did load a lot faster
Ash Meersand: Thanks. Mine is usually around 400 kbps, sometimes 500 kbps, sometimes 300 kbps
Swan Dunner: Oh! I jsut remmebered somthing. Anyone here know what "BT" is? :)
CaptJosh Au: I usually only put my bandwidth between 800 and 1100 because more seems to increase the lag for others. It's weird.
Squirrel Wood: SL uses 1.5 of it. but usually around 500 to 800 kbps
SoulsurvivorTOSP Westland: what if i only have a 512k speed of "broad"band?
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: I think things should load smarter
Torley Linden: BT, the musician? BT, the telecommunications company? BT, the BitTorrent? ;)
Geneko Nemeth: BitTorrent? A peer-to-peer content distrubution protocol?
Swan Dunner: Telecomuncations
Moog McMahon: I've a feeling bandwidth is less of an issue than RAM and graphics card.
Alca Magic: evryoe is in freeze frame for like 10 seconds before anyone changes postition
Geneko Nemeth: Or BT from .hack? >_>
Torley Linden: SoulsurvivorTOSP: then that's on the lower end and you may have problems... we recommend at least 768kbps for broadband...
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: like the floor beneath me vs. the texture on the tree up on the ridge a SIM away
Swan Dunner: Bt have been sending me E-mails about me going voer my downloadlimit.
Moog McMahon: Or dpwnload speen :)
CaptJosh Au: BT woulrd be British Telecom
Moog McMahon: speed:)
Stephen Posaner wonders if things would run smother if he was pluged in to ethernet rather than the wifi
Swan Dunner: COuld Second Life be using up my download limit?
CaptJosh Au: Easily
CaptJosh Au: Download is anything that comes too your computer from the net.
Geneko Nemeth: Aah, that's why when I was back in China the OI didn't rez fast enough...
Torley Linden: yes, make sure there's not something else "hogging your pipe"...
Swan Dunner: lol
Swan Dunner: Oh right. Then Ill upgrade it to unlimtied
Imnotgoing Sideways: Totally.. .Ethernet, all the way... Wifi will work, but, don't forget about interference. (^_^)
SoulsurvivorTOSP Westland: lol, i can't afford that Torley, 1mb is malaysia 88 ringgit, expensive
CaptJosh Au: Probably a good idea.
Swan Dunner: They've beaten me witha red hot poker to upgrade lol.
JenzZa Misfit: my new one will have 8 gigs of RAM .. I should see the galaxy with that !!
Ash Meersand: I decided to become the arch-rival to Melonzilla, Citrus Head
Torley Linden: ouch Soulsurvivor!
Torley Linden: hahahah Ash
CaptJosh Au: Stingy bastards there at BT...
Torley Linden: omg that cracks me up
Moog McMahon: yeah, you can never beat a cat 6 cable lol
Stephen Posaner: I like not being tied down
Arilynn Karu: Hi, Torley. I head you have captioned tutorials - are they available somwhere?
Stephen Posaner: even with a 50 ft cable
Swan Dunner: I ahte BT now :D
Swan Dunner: Anyone here called Lyra Quintessa?
Torley Linden: i'm sorry Arilynn i don't, i've been hoping for help captioning but it hasn't really happened yet
Arilynn Karu: Ok, thanks for the information :)
Torley Linden: Monalisa and Mayumi, let me add that hair is beautifully textured too =oD
SoulsurvivorTOSP Westland: Erm, Torley is thta ok ti ask about the funny sword you had in the 'whats new in SL 1.20?"
Al Sonic: Heh, I'm sure it is.
Torley Linden: of course, you can always ask me about my avatars
Ash Meersand: I noticed a place near Waterhead with a giant sign advertising your new place, but not in Grassley, near an empty varnish factory warehouse.
Swan Dunner: :O Yes the Torlet sword! Thats so cool!
Swan Dunner: *torley
Torley Linden: the sword in that video is by Perefim Cao... i nicknamed it the "Slop Chopper" but he sells it at OMFG... it reminded me of something Cloud from FFVII might have
Stephen Posaner: like where to get some of them?
Ash Meersand: Was that the Watermelinden Land parcel before your last one?
Torley Linden: Ash, yes, that was my previous office space inworld!
Amon26 Yellowjacket: hallooo!
JenzZa Misfit: Torley ! have you done any short videos of activity or explanation of opensim ? Saijanai mentioned something I think
Squirrel Wood: Which avatar is your greenest and which is your pinkest Torley? :p
Torley Linden: eventually i'll give it to another Linden since i moved here
Ash Meersand: I noticed the giant white box with the same doodles
Torley Linden: heya Amon!
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: yesh, congrats on your own SIM
Swan Dunner: Final Fantasy is an all time favourite of mine :D
SoulsurvivorTOSP Westland: thanks Torley, actually, erm, i was looking for that sword, but cant get it anywhere..
Torley Linden: JenzZa yes i did a tour that's linked to from the top of the blog
Torley Linden: thank yo uthank you
Amon26 Yellowjacket: how ya been watermelon guru?
JenzZa Misfit: did you !
JenzZa Misfit: woot !
Torley Linden: Soulsurvivor ah yes it's relatively easy to find, and i'd ask Perefim if ya need help
Torley Linden: Amon26: awesome, you? :-D
Amon26 Yellowjacket: i am deleshis, as usual! :D
Amon26 Yellowjacket: ive been doing some SL machinima :D
Swan Dunner: Torley did you make that sword from scratch yourself :D
Alca Magic: torle, i want that bear looking thing that you had a video for, that was an anime thing
Ash Meersand: Did anyone notice that the log-in screen changed?
Alca Magic: tORLEY*
Alca Magic: Torley*
Imnotgoing Sideways: Good job!!! XD
Swan Dunner: lol
Torley Linden: no, i just modded that sword ;)
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: yes I did notice, Ash
SoulsurvivorTOSP Westland: and i wnat that sword if is ok..
CaptJosh Au: Ok, a UI question. Is LL going to include any way to go back to certain features of pre-voice UI in the viewer without needing an add-on like The Nicholaz viewer or Cool SL Viewer?
Moog McMahon: Yeah - looked cool :)
Torley Linden: LOGIN SCREEN CHANGED?!?!? my pictures are up!?!?!?!?!
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: mine was devoid of information
Swan Dunner: It was really cool
Torley Linden: i'll have to check soon :)
Torley Linden: pardon, i get too excited
Ash Meersand: Yes, only 30 minutes ago
Torley Linden: CaptJosh: which, specifically?
Swan Dunner: Alsmot half-past. Ok Bye bye :D
Ash Meersand: All the water is sparklier than my computer will ever be allowed to see
Imnotgoing Sideways: Wah.. I must have missed it by a minute. (o.o)
Al Sonic: Ah, Torley does a great amount of displaying other's fun, fine works... such as what you see on this island.
Geneko Nemeth: Bye.
Torley Linden: take care Geneko!
Geneko Nemeth: ...
Geneko Nemeth: No I'm not leaving yet!!
Moog McMahon: Bye Genoko :)
Amon26 Yellowjacket: ya this is a veritble showcase of awe and wonder!

ED ::: Kunoichi AO (Wear Me): Could not find animation 'ED Kunoichi Stand 1'

Torley Linden: oh OH MY MISTAKE IN PARSING TEXT
Amon26 Yellowjacket: also, watermlons
Geneko Nemeth: I'm just saying goodbye to... whoever just left...
CaptJosh Au: Well, I like my friends list separate from the IMs/group chat window, and my chat history separate from those. The communicate window takes up too much screen real-estate.
JenzZa Misfit: melony !
Torley Linden: hahaha Amon26 i made sure to put your "4" bag up, that was atatched to some very fond memories
Geneko Nemeth: My mistake really ^_^
CaptJosh Au: And even detaching the friends list doesn't help much, because the extra tabs make the list too big.
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: I'm wondering if there's enough pink and green left for the rest of SL
Amon26 Yellowjacket: :D i saw that! im so glad you liked it so
Torley Linden: CaptJosh: i think it's definitely possible we'll change it more in the future
Amon26 Yellowjacket: that reminds me! have you set up a P.O box for people to send you gifts?

ED ::: Kunoichi AO (Wear Me): Could not find animation 'ED Kunoichi Stand 1'.

Torley Linden: i wish we had an option for vertical tabs... like the Firefox add-on
Imnotgoing Sideways: Oop. (^_^)
Torley Linden: Amon26 no i don't but i get my mail forwarded from Linden Lab's main HQ
Alca Magic: TORLEY, I WANT THAT BEAR THING , THEERE IS AN ANIME VIDEO, IFORGOT WHAT IT WAS CALLED, BUT II KNOW YOU GOT IT FROM THERE, ITS BHIND ME ,I THINK
Moog McMahon: can I ask what music is playing Torley?
Alca Magic: CAN I HAVE IT?
Amon26 Yellowjacket: neet :D
Torley Linden: hmmm Alca, oh, Totoro? sorry, i didn't make it!
Torley Linden: the music is by me... :) http://torley.com/piano ALL FREE
Stephen Posaner: btw torley thanks for telling me about vertical tabs
Sylectra Darwin: It's fabulous music, Torley.
Torley Linden: aw thank you Sylectra
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: vertical tabs is a nice idea
Moog McMahon: Excellent! I play too - and I've been pretty impressed :)
JenzZa Misfit: I wish you would come perform for us LIVE in world, Torley !
Amon26 Yellowjacket: btw tor, ive been doing some machinima with Lex Neva and the Suffugium Crew
Al Sonic: Hm, so someone needs to find the Totoro merchant.
Torley Linden: i'm currently using MediaMaster to stream it inworld as if it were my own radio station
Jacen Merryman: Torley have you done any tutorials on SLexchange? I encounter a lot of avatars that don't know what it is.
Geneko Nemeth: What did you say, CaptJosh?
JenzZa Misfit: thast my secret wish ..but now it is no longer a secret !
Amon26 Yellowjacket: i thought youd like to check it out sometime, but i do know youre mondo-busy :D
Geneko Nemeth: -_-||
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: SLEX and OnRez tuts would be cool
Alca Magic: mw too
Imnotgoing Sideways: Ugh... Someone stop time so I don't have to say lunch is over. (T_T)
Imnotgoing Sideways says Bai Baii!!! (^_^)y
Amon26 Yellowjacket: bibi imnotgoing :D
SoulsurvivorTOSP Westland: i want that sword if you don mind, torley..
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: or, sort of how the internet proper helps out in SL
Torley Linden: kewl Amon! i like Lex Neva's scripted stuff
SoulsurvivorTOSP Westland: :)
Ash Meersand: I noticed they took out the Ctrl & + or Ctrl & - way of zooming out
Geneko Nemeth: Squirrel your vioce changer is freaky >_<
Amon26 Yellowjacket: care to have a linkylik?
Alca Magic: me*
Amon26 Yellowjacket: er... link
Melody Paperdoll plays the music ... ooh nice torley :)
Emzy Enzyme: back
Torley Linden: soooooooooo about SLEx and Onrez, i enjoy shopping at both. there's a gray area as to what sort of other products/services i can highlight (seeing as there'll be no end of demand for them)... i wonder why SLEx and OnRez don't have some already?
Ash Meersand: I pressed Ctrl and - over and over and got the same effect as in Torley's space navigator tutorial in an old release candidate

ED ::: Kunoichi AO (Wear Me): Could not find animation 'ED Kunoichi Stand 1'

Squirrel Wood: [12:31] ::: ED ::: Kunoichi AO (Wear Me): Could not find animation 'ED Kunoichi Stand 1'
Torley Linden: actually i think some people at OnRez did make video tutorials for their site awhile back
Ash Meersand: The problem was that the viewing angle became increased the farther you zoom out, so eventually it became fisheyed
Arawn Spitteler: L:ooks like Torley helped recruit a new linden
Amon26 Yellowjacket: hehee

ED ::: Kunoichi AO (Wear Me): Could not find animation 'ED Kunoichi Stand 1'.

Torley Linden: so my role in this becomes a matter of helping people learn to make video tutorials of their own...
Torley Linden: thanks Melody :)
Geneko Nemeth: Yeah, it's Torley's phonograph that's making the sound.
Torley Linden: (sorry i can't reply to IMs right now)
Torley Linden: and yeah i have a crackly vinyl thing up there...
Torley Linden: which adds some "character"...
Melody Paperdoll seconds the vote torley do a live show /me giggles
Amon26 Yellowjacket: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBYcnURZVpo <- machinimas for anyone who is curious ^_^
Torley Linden: i am open to performing live music... leaving that a possibility :o)
Amon26 Yellowjacket: airplanes, dinousaurs, sexy people!
Torley Linden: *saves link*
Torley Linden: mmmm sounds like a tasty combo
Amon26 Yellowjacket: ^,^
Amon26 Yellowjacket: its bright and nummy
Geneko Nemeth: Yeah, he does!
Amon26 Yellowjacket: ..slightly braindamaged
JenzZa Misfit: ... YES ! Torley bring your watermelon piano to Muse Isle and we will have a music feast !!
Moog McMahon: well I'd certainly come to see you play Torley :)
JenzZa Misfit: *note to reminde Torley X 500000000 *
Torley Linden: that's so encouraging, thanks :D hehe
Solo Mornington: time to run. thanks, torley. :-)
Amon26 Yellowjacket: ohh btw tor. thanks for getting me addicted to artrage :D
JenzZa Misfit: ... well I am totally serious .. wouldnt you just love to do that ? yes I bet
Torley Linden: you're welcome Solo! take care
Torley Linden: ARTRAGE ROX SO MUCH...
Torley Linden: their UI design is masterful... incredible...
Amon26 Yellowjacket: it do!
Melody Paperdoll: oh yay! artrage hehe
CaptJosh Au: Torley, have you ever met Frogg and Jaycatt? Jay is quite the pianist/keyboardist too.
Torley Linden: i <3 finding tools to use with Second Life...
Amon26 Yellowjacket: i thought it was kinda toy-ish at first, but then oh man!!!
JenzZa Misfit: .. I double secret triple watermelon rind dare you !
Torley Linden: i have a long time ago, haven't recently but i have enjoyed both of their music, CaptJosh
Torley Linden: and who else... way back in "early live music"... Astrin Few in 2004 at Clover's
Torley Linden: now that's old skool!

ED ::: Kunoichi AO (Wear Me): Could not find animation 'ED Kunoichi Stand 1'

Alca Magic: TORLEY, I WANT THAT ANIME BEAR ,, PLEASE!!!
JenzZa Misfit: I know Astrin :)
CaptJosh Au: They're cool. I think they've been working on adding some Simon and Garfunkel to their repertoire.
CaptJosh Au: Sounds of Silence, in particular.
Amon26 Yellowjacket: i dont think its transferable Jez
Torley Linden: Alca, oh i'm sorry, it's no-transfer. i'd recommend you ask the creator :)
JenzZa Misfit: ... how can I persuade you , Torley ! will you ponder it ?

ED ::: Kunoichi AO (Wear Me): Could not find animation 'ED Kunoichi Stand 1'.

SoulsurvivorTOSP Westland: torley, do you have the LM for the sword?? :) thanks..
Alca Magic: OK, WH?
CaptJosh Au: Frogg tried to say he couldn't play the guitar that fast when I suggested it, but he started trying later anyway.
Torley Linden: JenzZa: i'll think about it; i think the thing is, i'd have to play on my alt account... because Lindens aren't allowed to do that (it's too partial... they'd have to be obliged to play EVERYWHERE...) and i haven't had enough time to really focus on music recently
JenzZa Misfit: ... that would be just dandy !
Torley Linden: Soulsurvivor, should be in Perefim Cao's picks =) [OMFG] is the name of the shop
Squirrel Wood: Whoever has that kunoichi AO script... fix the notecard so it does not refer to nonexistant animations and spams error messages on the debug channel
Amon26 Yellowjacket: eeeeik
Amon26 Yellowjacket: that'd be me
SoulsurvivorTOSP Westland: i loves simon and garfunkel too.., bridged over trouble water
Amon26 Yellowjacket: i broke it a bit ago hehe
Torley Linden: i have been hoping for a wicked breakbeat remix of "Sounds of Silence", that's a beautiful song...
Torley Linden: i heard a Kraftwerk-meets-Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" on YouTube the other day
JenzZa Misfit: .. a Torley by any other name is still Torley and Id love to host a performance ! contact me anytime PLEASE !
Torley Linden: =)
Torley Linden: thanks for all yer support JenzZa
Alca Magic: WHO?
Alca Magic: ***
Amon26 Yellowjacket: someone once sent me a mix of "come together" and "closer"
CaptJosh Au: Well, they wouldn't be doing a beat remix, I think. Just something a lot like the original, but with teir own spin on it.
Amon26 Yellowjacket: that was trippy
Torley Linden: Alca, right-click the object, Edit... see General tab :)
SoulsurvivorTOSP Westland: perefim cao? i see, thanks torley..
CaptJosh Au: Kinda like how they do House of the Rising Sun.
JenzZa Misfit: .. my venue is one of the originals ... april 2006 so would be apropo ! * notes .. scribbling*
Alca Magic: (oops my caps lock was on) (my question was for torley)
Torley Linden: i can teach you how to "fish"...
Torley Linden: there are over 150 versions of House of the Rising Sun
Amon26 Yellowjacket: yowza
CaptJosh Au: Yeah
CaptJosh Au: The one I know best is the one that gets played on all the oldies stations.
Squirrel Wood: and only one of them is the original :p
Torley Linden: that's as many as (more?) than "Popcorn"
Amon26 Yellowjacket: maroo! RL calls!
JenzZa Misfit: ...it could be a watermelon concerto ! *scribble *
Torley Linden: i like the made-up lyrics to "Popcorn"...
Torley Linden: YOU CAN EAT IT IN A CAN... YOU CAN CHOMP IT WHILE YOU STAND... la la la
Amon26 Yellowjacket: take care torleypants!
Amon26 Yellowjacket: drop me a message about the film if youd like ofcourse :D
CaptJosh Au: The best known version of popcorn was recorded by a group billing itself as Hot Butter in 1969. It is THE original technopop song.
Stephen Posaner: lol
Amon26 Yellowjacket: bibi everybody!!!!
Torley Linden: CaptJosh, i'm so glad you know that. gosh bless Perrey and Kingsley for their early synth pioneering!
Torley Linden: bye bye Amon and great to seeya!
Amon26 Yellowjacket: likewise!!
Amon26 Yellowjacket: keep em on their toes ^_~
Alca Magic: ok, thx
Torley Linden: i hope the word "Gridnaut" gets popularly adopted... Periapse Linden coined it
Torley Linden: and then i used it afterward...
Squirrel Wood: Jean Michel Jarre....
CaptJosh Au: But there are earlier versions of Popcorn than that involving somebody's "All Moog Quartet"
Torley Linden: Perrey and Kingsley are among the original Moog pioneers (how'd you choose your name, Moog McMahon? any relation to the synth?)
CaptJosh Au: And one solo version as well, on a single Moog.
Moog McMahon: Some one mention me name lol :)
Torley Linden: i also <3 Wendy Carlos a lot... i hope she'll do music for Tron 2, aka Tr2n
Squirrel Wood: Oxygene Part 1 through 13
CaptJosh Au: There's a website all about the song popcorn...
Dizzy Banjo: Howdy !! :D
CaptJosh Au: http://www.popcorn-song.com/
Torley Linden: JEAN MICHEL JARRE, yes! we're talkin'!
Torley Linden: Oxygene 8 is probably my favorite... the melody, arrangement, and video are sublime.
Al Sonic: ORly? Heh...
Squirrel Wood: jarre... got all songs from 1972 to 2004 ^^
Moog McMahon: Yeah, I play keys in RL, got a coupkle of Moogs - Mini and Prodigy
Torley Linden: there was his Oyxgene Live performance too
Torley Linden: very cool, Moog!
CaptJosh Au: Whoops. The 1969 version was part of Kingsley's Music to Moog by.
Torley Linden: ahhh... analogue classics...
Squirrel Wood: Yes. oxygene live can be seen on youtube
Ash Meersand: Torley, you're from Canada, right?
CaptJosh Au: 1972 was when Hot Butter recorded it.
Dizzy Banjo: hi Torley, JenzZa and general happy gang :)
Torley Linden: hey hey Dizzy!
Dizzy Banjo: i really like oxygene part 1
JenzZa Misfit: Dizzy !
Torley Linden: Ash, yes, originally
Dizzy Banjo: really nice synths on that
Ash Meersand: Here, have a toonie
Torley Linden: Dizzy, i was hearing many encouraging things about your SL5B bottle video... and it got added to our Showcase Machinima, did you see that?
Dizzy Banjo: ah w0000tness
Dizzy Banjo: awesome
Moog McMahon: JMJ got me into music, first album I bought was Equinoxe :)
JenzZa Misfit: woot !! SL5B Msgs Bottle !
Torley Linden: Lindens really liked it, Dizzy... so inspirational... did you get a place to store it yet? i asked but didn't decisively hear back
Dizzy Banjo: doing some tweakage with lillie
Dizzy Banjo: not heard yet
Dizzy Banjo: hopefully will soon :D
Torley Linden: ohh okay :)
Torley Linden: say hi to Lillie for me and let her know too, this is great
Dizzy Banjo: going to try to make it so we can recieve ALOT more messages
CaptJosh Au: Oh! Another SL question I almost forgot about.
Dizzy Banjo: will do :D
Torley Linden: YES Dizzy, i'd totally want to share the good word of the bottle, so that all those messages can be heard
Torley Linden: nothing like that was ever done before
CaptJosh Au: I really think more attach points or allowing two attachments per attach point would be a good idea. Is there any word on whether or not this is being considered?
Ash Meersand: Wow, this structure is tall
Torley Linden: CaptJosh, hot Issue Tracker topic. considered, but no resources for it right now, and not a clear design pathway... yet.
Dizzy Banjo: i think we are going to try to get it so it continuously lots of different messages from a pool of.. potentially squillions of users messages !
CaptJosh Au: Ah
Torley Linden: i think it got like over 300 votes... let's see...
CaptJosh Au: Maybe I can add a suggestion or two as to what additional attach points would be good.
Alca Magic: Torley, i asked Ash Scanlan, the creator on the bear thing, and she / he said not for resell or give away
Torley Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-489
Torley Linden: oh :( well i need to respect those rights, Alca
Ash Meersand: Ever tried sticking a bunch of objects to your avatar and becoming a katamari?
Ash Meersand: Crowded areas don't like that
Squirrel Wood下线了。
Torley Linden: HAHAHAHA Ash yes i have ;D i once attained an ARC of over 400,000
Juelia Denimore: With the new Beta Grid opening up, is there potential for other virtual "planets" in the metaverse and a world fashioned after FL??
Torley Linden: i was BAD
Al Sonic: XD
Torleyite (CLICK ME FOR TIPS!) shouts: Got lag and want to know what to do about it? Go to Help menu > Lag Meter
Alca Magic: Oh, thx Torley for makig that video that you did at Harbinger's Haven, for the wavy flag vidtut. i love that place now
Torley Linden: Juelia, there's certainly potential for that, yes... seems inevitable that there'd likely be multiple versions, or interpretations from different people
Torley Linden: oh i'm glad you do, Alca... that is such a nice sandbox, friendly people
Juelia Denimore: Awesome!!!
Ash Meersand: I got up to 500 prims before crashing, becoming a ball of street light poles, brooms, candy canes, and Italian cheeses
Alca Magic: yeah, Adrian is very nice
Ash Meersand: They get odd folks over in Morris
Torley Linden: what sure gets me excited is when stuff... that's been wished for... for a long time, becomes reality. or virtual reality.
Torley Linden: like the whole "change Ruth" thing was "talked about" for ages...
Torley Linden: finally, it came true
CaptJosh Au: Suggestion for the viewer internal browser. It should have some kind of page loading indicator. Even internet exploder has that.
Torley Linden: Havok 4 is another massive example... Mono, which some of you will recall from 2005, is surely another
Torley Linden: CaptJosh: agree there could be better feedback
Moog McMahon: Yeah, that was a good thing - no more Ruth :)
Ash Meersand: Second Life would be a 22km asteroid if were a sphere and obeyed the laws of physics
Arawn Spitteler only talked about Changing Ruth, because the Daniel Linden Blogh didn't make sense.
Geneko Nemeth: With a moon that's the Teen Grid?
Torley Linden: satellites... !
Alca Magic: so, nice meeting you Torley, i am goin to go back to HH and build some more, goodbye!
Alca Magic: have good one
Alca Magic: have a good one*
Torley Linden: have a good time, Alca!
Moog McMahon: Bye Alca :)
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: 22,m is being generous, don't you think
Ash Meersand: That's not including the "invalid location" holes between some sims, so it's probably 30km
Torley Linden: "that's not a moon..."
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: after all, all this is nothing but electons
Arawn Spitteler: SL does obeyy the laws of Physics; Every Sim has Gravity, and goes down.
Geneko Nemeth: But it's not the kind of graviti you may expect.
Geneko Nemeth: Or so I heard...
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: it would be neat to be able to turn gravity off for an entire SIM ...
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: ... so you could do a space station or the like
Torley Linden: or change environmental variables...
Moog McMahon: lol - might cuase mayhem! lol
Arawn Spitteler figures we'll eventually be scripting physics for each sim.
Torley Linden: you can turn off physics for a region... but that doesn't exactly have the desired effect
Torley Linden: Arawn yeah there's a lot of promise in that; both under-the-hood and visually, what we'd experience...
Ash Meersand: I'm imagining putting a massive object in a sim and letting things gravitate and orbit it
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: physics still exists in zero g
Melody Paperdoll 's mind is blown lol
Moog McMahon gets confused by physics and stuff :)
Melody Paperdoll: but it sounds exciting :)
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: ooh, using SL to model basic Astrophysics sounds cool
Nostrum Forder misses physics that works, esp. between sims.
Arawn Spitteler: Well, a High School Physics Sim, would be simpler than a Wind Tunnel Sim.
Torley Linden: i like making use of vertical space; i find it silly that we're flight-constrained without a flight assist script... we should be able to fly as high as we please from default unless someone enforces no or low fly
Moog McMahon: or a computational fluid dynamics sim lol :)
CaptJosh Au: That sounds good.
Al Sonic: I'm just waiting for server-side 'Windlight' environment settings, for the shared thrill of a totally exotic world.
Sylectra Darwin agrees
Torley Linden: OH ME TOO AL
Torley Linden: totally... that'll open up a LOT
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: I've been up to about 8,000m before
Al Sonic: ^_^
Torley Linden: i'll definitely customize the WindLight settings here when that happens
Dizzy Banjo: gosh, is there an alternative tuning piece on your land stream Torley ? its very adventurous ..
Geneko Nemeth: Green and pink skys? .....
Torley Linden: btw, sidenote... i wish we kept the name "WindLight" in the viewer because, "Environmental Settings" is generally explainable but a mouthful!
Al Sonic: yay... yeah I bet you would alright ^_^
Moog McMahon: i still call it windlight, people know it, not a problem :)
Torley Linden: Dizzy, the music? i do have some more experimental piano pieces ;)
CaptJosh Au: I just think it's too bad that objects have to be 30 prims or less to be physical. I know the reason it was done. I understand. I still wish it didn't need to be.
Geneko Nemeth: It sounds better in Chinese though. XD
Al Sonic: That seems to have gone the way of the Nintendo Revolution.
Ash Meersand: About 800m upward is the tallest a continuous structure can be and still be useful, I think; I divided 15,000 for different dimensions and assumed 10x10x? values for wall prims
Dizzy Banjo: yeh it was cool
CaptJosh Au: There are some wonderful aircraft that simply CANNOT be made inside of 30 prims.
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: I think the Environmental settings > Editor is in a clumsy location
CaptJosh Au: I would love to have a working F-14 replica for example.
Torley Linden: CaptJosh, what i'm seeing is... there are sculpted prim vehicles which are incredibly detailed...
Moog McMahon: I'd prefer a f-22 lol
CaptJosh Au: Sculpties have issues of their own.
Arawn Spitteler: So, you build the aircraft at 500 prims, and wear it while you fly
Torley Linden: i still have some old vehicles from way back before the # of prims for a physical object was restricted
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: Torley, any chance on setting up Graphic profiles to make switching to photography mode easier?
Sylectra Darwin: do you think that wil open up again, Torley?
Geneko Nemeth: Mabe have aprts of the prims that doesn't participate in physics...?
CaptJosh Au: One is that sculpt maps are saved with the same compression as regular textures, a highly compressed JPEG2000 format which makes the sculpt maps lossy.
Ash Meersand: Number of prims for a single object is limited to 256 now, I think
Al Sonic: Also CaptJosh, there are vehicles with lots and lots of prims, that just attach a certain selectoin of them to the driver when it needs to move.
Arawn Spitteler wants to model a Galon Hour Centenniel Aircraft, in Wrold, to raise investment capital, for the competition.
Torley Linden: ColonelKernel, a definite nice idea i've wanted for a long time. hasn't happened yet. but yeah, i want a one-click toggle between different *custom* settings
CaptJosh Au: Ash, number of prims for a physics enabled object is 30 plus the pilot.
Al Sonic: Also, Sculpties are no longer lossy.
Geneko Nemeth: Isn't it 31 minus the pilot?
Arawn Spitteler: 32- avies
Torley Linden: Sylectra: it may open up... hard to say... depending on what happens in the future. part of the dual-pronged challenge we have is improving performance at the same time as making content richer
CaptJosh Au: Since when, Al. You upload a sculpt map the same damn way you upload a regular texture, so it guts compressed the same damn way.
Geneko Nemeth: CaptJosh, you can upload loseless sculpt textures now.
Al Sonic: Since thbey implemented a Lossless checkbox on the image upload...
Al Sonic: and fixed the bugs with said checkbox.
CaptJosh Au: Interesting. And only the same L$10...
Al Sonic: It only works on small, sculpt-sized images.
CaptJosh Au: Ah
Al Sonic: So yes, only L$10.
Ash Meersand: You know what would be fun? Powder, that behaves like particles, but it's 3D and continuously existing, so with the physics you could walk over a pile of powder or ooze and spread it around
CaptJosh Au: Has any thought been given to increasing the upload fee for less compression on larger images?
Ash Meersand: Set it to have the expanding properties of liquid on a solid surface
Sylectra Darwin: oooh, cool idea Ash
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: or for skiing "powder" snow
Torley Linden: Ash, that would be fun for destructible objects too...
Torley Linden: physics are a lot of fun
Sylectra Darwin: ashes in a fireplace
Torley Linden: often when i show SL stuff to people who don't know what's possible, they like physical demos
Sylectra Darwin: styrofoam pellets in a beanbag chair
Torley Linden: i want to get a Rover, like out of The Prisoner
Al Sonic: Server-side particles. Another challenge to tackle.
Ash Meersand: Gunpowder could be blown away by the wind and disappear after X meters
CaptJosh Au: Also, has any thought been given to making SL able to take advantage of physics cards or nVidia cards coming out with PhysX in the near future?
Arawn Spitteler: All we are, is Dust in the Wind.
Ash Meersand: There'd be restrictions so that it doesn't take up too much demand by limiting how far the powder could go from the source pile location
Geneko Nemeth: Idon't think I want to send that much data over the Pacific...
Sylectra Darwin: Ash, what about pixie dust you can blow on people
Torley Linden: CaptJosh: yes, but i think that's more likely for OpenSim experiments...
CaptJosh Au: Ah
Torley Linden: i think some people are already playing with that
Moog McMahon: ooo, just thought any chance of a client for PS3 or Xbox 360?
Al Sonic: SL doesn't use any client-side physics aside from perhaps simple particle stuff...
CaptJosh Au: I'm just thinking how much PhysX or Ageia could help render flexis and such.
JenzZa Misfit: this is significant .. I just know it ::: I am suddenly hungry for watermelon
Torley Linden: Moog, i've heard that suggested but no plans right now
Al Sonic: Ah, fliexis, interesing thought.
Moog McMahon: no worries :)
Emzy Enzyme: oh an ipod touch/ iphone client would be nice :)
Torley Linden: i remember when flexis first hit the grid... back in early 2006...
Torley Linden: there's a mobile Vollee lient
Torley Linden: *client
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: hehe, SL on iPhones
CaptJosh Au: PhysX might make it possible to link flexis together, even.
Emzy Enzyme: just dreaming...
Torley Linden: gotta keep dreams alive!
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: does AjaxLife work on iPhones
CaptJosh Au: Right now a flexi can't link right because the math is too complicated to process in a timely fashion.
Ash Meersand: Ever thought about prims that aren't sculpted that you could modify like the cubes and spheres, but they're basic, but rarer shapes like hexagonal prims? So you could pay L$5 instead of L$10 per upload for that sort of prim
Arawn Spitteler: Rotating Sub Groups would be nice, but require a more sophisticated Engine
CaptJosh Au: Oh! Speaking of sculpts.
CaptJosh Au: Any ideas on using the sculpt map as a colision mesh?
CaptJosh Au: Then sculpted prims would be the same shape as they appear.
Arawn Spitteler: I don't favor Sculpty Collisions, but that's an Andrew Question.
CaptJosh Au: Instead of having a big invisible sphere in the way.
Al Sonic: Er, yes CaptJosh, there's some work underway to attempt that... Idunno at what priority though.
Torley Linden: yes, Andrew is brilliant at this stuff... :) i don't know myself
Torley Linden: some people have "faked" it awkwardly, placing invisible normal prims around a sculpted prim to make the collision mesh seem more accurate
Moog McMahon: well its been a real pleasure - please to meet you Torley - keep up the good work. But I need to pop off and DJ!! :) Cheers
Arawn Spitteler: Today at 5PM in Content to Hover
Torley Linden: thanks Moog, take care!
Moog McMahon: Bye :)
Ash Meersand: Bye, Torley, it's been fun
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: ciao, Moog
CaptJosh Au: Arawn, it's needed. Sculpts looks nice, and on a small scale , collision doesn't matter, but used large scale, like on the Great Tree at Luskwood, you see glaring issues with sculpts not having the same colision area as their appearance.
Dizzy Banjo: hahaha
Alca Magic: i cantget to HH
Dizzy Banjo: i just saw Torleys Watermelojawa
Torley Linden: aye, it's bizarre if you see a sculpted giraffe and... you can't ride its back as expected XD
Zoffa Morico chuckles
Al Sonic: The biggest issue sometimes seems to be that at the moment, sims don't read textures. It's not in their program structure.
CaptJosh Au: Exactly!
Torley Linden: i can't believe there's a region called Content to Hover... that's funny :-)
Arawn Spitteler: If you can ride a sculpty, by Sit Target, you can ride as expected.
Al Sonic: Or, network structure. Whatever.
JenzZa Misfit: haha]
CaptJosh Au: The problem is walking around them.
Geneko Nemeth: Besides it will probably be hard to calculate for such a complex shape.
CaptJosh Au: It might could be done clientside.
Torley Linden: Arawn, very good point. that's good thinking!
Torley Linden: while not the most elegant, some the hacks i've seen are pretty incredible
Sylectra Darwin: Torley, are you coming to SLCC?
Torley Linden: no i'm not, are you going?
Sylectra Darwin: yes!
Torley Linden: hope ya have fun :D
Arawn Spitteler: There's efforts to simplify collision shapes, but Sculpty Collisions might be something you could buy. I'd expect them to be more expensive than Physical Megaprims.
Sylectra Darwin: ty!
Arawn Spitteler: Coul.dnt' you hafve a client set up therre?
CaptJosh Au: Since the client already reads the texture, it might be possible to have it take the shape it generates and apply it somehow to collision detection.
Torley Linden: hmmm i'd like to have something physical and roaming that people could knock around here *makes note to self*
Al Sonic: Eh, they're less expensive than twisted torus prims.
CaptJosh Au: Prim torture!
CaptJosh Au: hehe
Torley Linden: i wonder who coined that term, "prim torture"
Torley Linden: i think Strife Onizuka was among the first to use it
CaptJosh Au: Been around over two years that I know of, and probably longer than that.
Arawn Spitteler: Sculpties are less expecnsive than Twisted Torae, because we only see the image of the shape.
Torley Linden: i remember attending scripting fairs back in 2004...
Torley Linden: and that term was used
CaptJosh Au: And now you can torture prims worse still.
Al Sonic: I never get that term, because for me, it's either a prim can do it or it can't, there's no torture necessary.
CaptJosh Au: I can take a regular texture, apply it as a sculpt map, and it'll really screw with the prim.
Torley Linden: seeing combos of tori + flexi + sculptie hair which work together well, which has been rewarding
Torley Linden: lol Al!
Torley Linden: CaptJosh, soundsl like a fine name for a domain... screwwiththeprim.com
Jacen Merryman: Well I am going to have to leave now. Torley your videos rock.
Torley Linden: thanks for watching Jacen and for visiting me!
CaptJosh Au: I wish flexi hair collided correctly with avs.
CaptJosh Au: It's funny seeing hair go through someone's body.
Jacen Merryman: But since I normaly work on thurs. I gotta ask this, since it might be my only chance.
Arawn Spitteler: Oh, now you've your own sim, I've a TP I've been meaning to give you, but haven't a good watermelon design for it, yet.
Jacen Merryman: Torley can I get your Linden bear?
Torley Linden: tru dat... or poses that were more physically accurate so your hand can't go through your chest if you didn't intend it to :|
CaptJosh Au: Yeah.
Torley Linden: oh for sure Jacen! anyone else want my Linden bear?
Emzy Enzyme: primpeace!
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: yes
Geneko Nemeth: It goes stranger in some of the online games I used to play. You can have a sword through your own eyes.
Zoffa Morico raises his hand
norritt Xi: Hi everyone!
Zoffa Morico: I do Please!
Al Sonic: CaptJosh: applying regular textures as sculptmaps... Qarl Linden, master of sculpties, coined a term 'vector vomit' for that.
CaptJosh Au: Ooookaaaay... sword through the eyes, wow.
Torley Linden: some of the Lara Croft bloopers i've seen... PUTRID ;D
Torley Linden: hahaha Al, i heard of "vertex vomit" applied to bugs
Arawn Spitteler: I'd like one, but haven't a nice place to display
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: thanx for the "bare"
CaptJosh Au: Al, that is as may be, but you can get some interesting form.
Jacen Merryman: Cool thanks Torley. Hopefully I'll get a chance to see you again.
CaptJosh Au: forms*
Torley Linden: i didn't know Qarl coined that tho
Jacen Merryman: Later everyone, have a good day.
Torley Linden: my office hours have pretty much been the same time every week! cya Jacen
Zoffa Morico hopes Torley noticed that he wants a bear too.
Al Sonic: or was it vertex... *shrug*
CaptJosh Au: I've seen some stuff that looks like some strange crystals and such.
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: bye, Jacen
Torley Linden: anyone who wanted a bear who didn't get one?
Torley Linden: thanks Arawn
Zoffa Morico grins happily
Zoffa Morico: Thank you Torely.
Torley Linden: yeah, i've seen people used vertex vomit as HAIR :D
Melody Paperdoll: ohmy goodness
Zoffa Morico: *torley
Torley Linden: you're welcome Zoffa!
Melody Paperdoll always wants bears lol
Arawn Spitteler: It uses llSetLinkPrimitivePArams, to work better than the original TPS
Torley Linden: it was very rockstar hair, wilder than Goku
Sylectra Darwin: I'd like a bear.
Master Nestler: i need a bear lol
Torley Linden: Master i like your profile pic hehe
Master Nestler: YAY! (yay!)
Arawn Spitteler wonders if a bear could be scripted to hug avies: I'd like one too, really
Torley Linden: wow cool purple tones Sylectra
Lance Liebling: I'd like a bear too Torley...please
Zoffa Morico grins
Sylectra Darwin: ty! ty!
Beau Tunwarm: Bears were created by satin.
Torley Linden: welcome! welcome!
Torley Linden: well, it sure has been fun... thanks each and all for coming to my zany office hour... i'm going to go for now, but feel free to explor around. :D
Lance Liebling: Thanks!
Al Sonic: Ah, it is getting late isn't it?
Zoffa Morico: Thanks again Torley. Keep up the great creative work.
Al Sonic: Well goodbye then!
Melody Paperdoll: byebye torley
norritt Xi: Bye Torley
Emzy Enzyme: bye bye
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: thanx a bunch, Torley
Mayumi Fride: bye Torley : )
Beau Tunwarm: Im going to go terraform that parcel and make it into a massive pit/mountain.
Melody Paperdoll: it has been enlightening /me giggles (is that corney?)
Melody Paperdoll: a little confusing but fun anyway /me giggles
Torley Linden: another video tip will appear on http://blog.secondlife.com this Saturday ;D and hint, it's all about Here
Torley Linden: hahah Beau knock yourself out!
Torley Linden: nothing corny about Enlightenment
Sylectra Darwin: Funny, that profile pic was taken in one of the spots you linked to from your Flickr photos.
CaptJosh Au: Got a question about scripting possibilities. I have an idea for a weapon I'm working on, a classic Star Trek type II phaser. I'm sure I can set it up to have green and red beams for stun and kill, that's not hard. But I wonder if I can do what I want to do as a sort of practical joke on folks who want to try to set it on "kill" in a non-combat area because they didn't RTFM.
Torley Linden: enlightenment is awesome ;D
CaptJosh Au: The idea is as follows.
Torley Linden: thanx and yayzerama, bye bye for now! *waves n smiles*
CaptJosh Au: If in a non-combat, more specifically PG area, if someone tries to set the phaser on kill a couple times, I want them to get a warning about unauthorized attempt to exceed setting limitation in a non-combat area.
CaptJosh Au: Then, a warning about possible weapon malfunction if they persist.
Monalisa Robbiani: *AFK* ~~ *BRB*
Al Sonic wonders if someone should attempt an avatar based on the new-ruth cloud... but realizes it would be hard to hide the avatar AND surround it with particles.
Arawn Spitteler: I think a phaser set to kill, could use llTeleportAgentHome on the owner.
CaptJosh Au: Finally, I want it to "overload" and knock the av around who ignores the malfunction warning and still tries to set it to kill in a PG area.
CaptJosh Au: does that sound possible?
Geneko Nemeth: llPushObject and an fall-to-ground animation?
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: are scripts aware of the location they're in?
CaptJosh Au: I believe you can get the info.
CaptJosh Au: I'm not sure though.
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: that sounds like the only limitation
CaptJosh Au: Where'd Torley go.
Geneko Nemeth: He left.
Arawn Spitteler: I think they can check, for PG and Comkbat.
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: sorry, he left just as you were getting started
CaptJosh Au: Damn...I was trying to ask him.
Arawn Spitteler: Torley does other stuff, at Linden LAbs.
CaptJosh Au: Oh well.
CaptJosh Au: I know
CaptJosh Au: But I figured he's probably no slouch at scripting.
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: check the chat log, you geared up just as he was getting ready to leave
Arawn Spitteler: It's really a simple techical question; are you a member of NCI Scripters?
CaptJosh Au: Nope
CaptJosh Au: Only scripting I've done is altering some scripts in the HelloMultiTool v8.
CaptJosh Au: Anyone want a hellomultitool that has hugs and kisses that work right under Havok4?
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: from his vid tuts, Torley isn't a master scripter
Monalisa Robbiani: *I'm BACK*
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: what he knows is simply because he's been around for so long
Al Sonic: Nupe, certainly isn't.
Mayumi Fride: wb
CaptJosh Au: I never suggested he was a master.
CaptJosh Au: but, as you say, hes been around a while. Which means he has experience.
Arawn Spitteler: What you're asking about is a simple llStartAnimation("dead"); script
norritt Xi: CaptJosh what did you want to ask Torley?
Object: Hello, Avatar!
Arawn Spitteler: I think he'd be better at
Arawn Spitteler: Java or C#
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: clever Torley, stealing chairs back whe we stand up
ColonelKernel Biegeleisen: later all
CaptJosh Au: Ok, the idea is having a phaser with stun and kill settings that if a user repeatedly tries to set it to kill in a PG area, it "overloads" and knocks the idiot around like it exploded.
Geneko Nemeth: llPushObject.
Geneko Nemeth: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlPushObject
CaptJosh Au: Obviously that.
norritt Xi: *nods*
CaptJosh Au: But I don't want it to do it the first time they try.
CaptJosh Au: There needs to be...a counter?
CaptJosh Au: I guess.
Geneko Nemeth: Hmm... you make a counter and add that every thime they try to use it?
Arawn Spitteler: Then you have to keep count, in a global variable, or by changing state.
norritt Xi: You could also generate random numbers between one and ten and just trigger if you get a 6 for instance
norritt Xi: That way it is even more random
Geneko Nemeth: Wouldn't it be better if you generate a random number and test if the count is bigger than that?
Geneko Nemeth: Since you could get a 6 at the first try.
CaptJosh Au: First time or two, it should warn something to the effect of "Warning, unauthorized attempt to exceed maximum setting for a non-combat area." Next couple times, it should say something like "Continued attempts to exceed maximum authorized setting in a non-combat area could result in weapon malfunction.
Arawn Spitteler would use Random Numbers.
CaptJosh Au: Last time, "Warning, weapon malfunction. Phaser overload immanent" wtih the old phaser overload sound.
norritt Xi: Ahh okay so it is not really random. Yes in this case a counter would be appropriate I think
CaptJosh Au: Then boom and they go flying.
CaptJosh Au: Unless they have sense enough to detach the object.
CaptJosh Au: I would give a LITTLE time before it went boom.
Geneko Nemeth: so the counter needs to be reset "on_rez".
CaptJosh Au: this of course would all be in the manual, just there as a nasty surprise for folks who don't read it.
Arawn Spitteler: Perhaps the animation could be changed to Eat, before it goes off.
Geneko Nemeth: It's eazy...
Geneko Nemeth: Eat?
norritt Xi: Which would be many I guess LOL
CaptJosh Au: To open the mouth?
Arawn Spitteler: Something that will point the phaser to the user's head.
CaptJosh Au: No, it doesn't need to point at them. It just explodes.
CaptJosh Au: That's what a phaser overload does.
CaptJosh Au: Boom
CaptJosh Au: It's like shorting a high power battery into itself.
CaptJosh Au: Only moreso
Arawn Spitteler: Can we bounce particles back at ourselves, from a target? They could then aim straight for "Center of Bounding Box"
CaptJosh Au: Particles can be set on paths...
CaptJosh Au: I've seen poofers that send particles out and then they go back in, too.
CaptJosh Au: It seems likely.
norritt Xi: Yes that is possible
CaptJosh Au: They really need to fix this little gem though...
Arawn Spitteler: So, you send a stream of nasty red particles at your target, and they come back at your butt.
CaptJosh Au: No...
CaptJosh Au: It would never actually be able to switch to kill in a PG area.
Al Sonic: They send them back inward by a special variable that directs particles toward an object... in this case, the emitter itself.
Arawn Spitteler: The trick is, to time the push when you shoot yourself.
CaptJosh Au: It would just complain, then go boom.
CaptJosh Au: You're overthinking this.
CaptJosh Au: You're not shooting yourself with it.
Geneko Nemeth: Why are we still talking about this? Shouldn't be too hard really.
CaptJosh Au: Besides, phaser beams don't bend.
Al Sonic agrees with CaptJosh.
CaptJosh Au: Not unless near an intense gravity well.
norritt Xi: ACME Black Hole (TM) ;)
Arawn Spitteler: Plasma Mirrors, read Bujold
Geneko Nemeth: Just check on sim rating on attempt to set to kill, and if not, llWhisper and increment counter.
CaptJosh Au: Acme(tm). We add rockets to almost everything.
CaptJosh Au: I have an Acme anvil dropper. No rockets needed. hehe
Lance Liebling: LOL
Geneko Nemeth: When counter > tries_needed_to_explode -1 you say it's overloaded and play the overloaded sound (and preload the explosion sound),
Lance Liebling: ACME rules!
CaptJosh Au: But of course the counter resets on rez. I'm not a total bastard, after all.
Arawn Spitteler has a teleporter that'll outrange any rocket
Lance Liebling: hehe
CaptJosh Au: Arawn, have you ever watched the old road runner cartoons?
CaptJosh Au: Rocket powered skates, rocket powered almost everything.
Geneko Nemeth: ... where did Arawn go?
CaptJosh Au: Probably teleported out.
Lance Liebling: I have Looney tunes golden collections 1 through 4
CaptJosh Au: With that fancy teleporter he just mentioned.
norritt Xi: Its just like Home Improvement ;)
norritt Xi: everything goes boom
CaptJosh Au: More power!
