[2008/10/23 12:12] Torley Linden: oh it goes great thanks :)
[2008/10/23 12:12] Torley Linden: lots of intriguing stuffs
[2008/10/23 12:12] Torley Linden: AND... if you haven't checked it out yet,
[2008/10/23 12:12] Torley Linden: NEW VIDEO PLAYER WITH SEARCH!
[2008/10/23 12:12] Torley Linden: http://secondlife.com/video
[2008/10/23 12:12] Torley Linden: we got so many requests for that, it was inevitable
[2008/10/23 12:13] Torley Linden: thanks for joining me at my office hour, glad you're here
[2008/10/23 12:13] Ewan Mureaux: hello torley, long time no see
[2008/10/23 12:13] Torley Linden: :)
[2008/10/23 12:13] Benski Trenkins: seen the new player, liked the search on it
[2008/10/23 12:13] Juko Tempel: very cool
[2008/10/23 12:13] Torley Linden: if you have any feedback re: the new player, let me know
[2008/10/23 12:14] Torley Linden: we just added another fix today...
[2008/10/23 12:14] Torley Linden: shows long names with hovertip
[2008/10/23 12:14] JS Uralia: chat lag and out-of-order chat is up in all regions, without regard to client type; but more importantly, the whole idea of "capping" IMs is antitetical to the reliable delivery of TCP/IP and should be scrapped and replaced with a nondelivery notification system, a if anything gets capped it should be the nondelivery notices
[2008/10/23 12:14] Torley Linden: (they were getting cut off before)
[2008/10/23 12:14] JS Uralia: antithetical*
[2008/10/23 12:14] Torley Linden: what'd i miss already?
[2008/10/23 12:14] Juko Tempel: snapshot bug
[2008/10/23 12:14] Kitten Radio: pretty pictures too
[2008/10/23 12:14] Nock Forager: and pumpkin bug :)
[2008/10/23 12:15] Torley Linden: oh, that darn pumpkin bug ;)
[2008/10/23 12:15] Juko Tempel: did Bettina tell you about her edges and black lines Torley?
[2008/10/23 12:15] Torley Linden: yes Juko
[2008/10/23 12:15] Juko Tempel: haha that too
[2008/10/23 12:15] Juko Tempel: she's very sad about it.. and others too
[2008/10/23 12:15] Torley Linden: sucks to hear about that, i like people to have pretty snapshots
[2008/10/23 12:15] Juko Tempel: and useful ones too..
[2008/10/23 12:15] Benski Trenkins: forget chatlag and black lines, that pumpkin bug needs prio
[2008/10/23 12:15] JS Uralia: Zen Linden can tell you how using UDP instead of TCP made skirts disappear on WiFi -- IMs should be at least as reliable as skirts
[2008/10/23 12:16] Torley Linden: i currently am not really involved with the Issue Tracker but i'm always happy to share if i know more about bugs :)
[2008/10/23 12:16] JS Uralia: capping IMs is just The Wrong Thing, and would be easy to fix if there was a champion driving it
[2008/10/23 12:16] Squirrel Wood: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-1728 ^^
[2008/10/23 12:16] Torley Linden: for specific bugs i recommend other office hours :)
[2008/10/23 12:17] Juko Tempel: that didn't work very well..
[2008/10/23 12:17] Torley Linden: i'm happy to answer any questions about video tutorials, knowledge-sharing, and such tho
[2008/10/23 12:17] Juko Tempel: Ravenelle mentioned a postcard bug.. it was a related point
[2008/10/23 12:17] Benski Trenkins: the old site also had 3rd party tutorials, will they be added to the player as well?
[2008/10/23 12:18] JS Uralia: I was at Pathfinder's last Friday and he didn't show up so I went to Science Friday instead and talked about abiogenesis
[2008/10/23 12:18] Torley Linden: Benski, no, but i hope to mention exemplary ones on the future Second Life Blog
[2008/10/23 12:18] Torley Linden: and the wiki page will continue to be up :)
[2008/10/23 12:18] Benski Trenkins: Cool, some of them sure are a real asset to yours
[2008/10/23 12:18] Torley Linden: Benski, if you have specific links you really enjoyed that i might've seen yet, let me know
[2008/10/23 12:18] Torley Linden: i <3 helping others make video tutorials
[2008/10/23 12:19] Torley Linden: and watching what awesome stuff is out there
[2008/10/23 12:19] Torley Linden: *might not have seen yet, i meant
[2008/10/23 12:19] Benski Trenkins: I'll keep that in mind.
[2008/10/23 12:19] Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
[2008/10/23 12:20] JS Uralia sketches some storyboards for a machinima of a broken partnership caused by capped IMs
[2008/10/23 12:20] Juko Tempel: lol JS
[2008/10/23 12:20] Nock Forager: Need to use Notecard XD
[2008/10/23 12:21] JS Uralia: who is the IM guro? Zero?
[2008/10/23 12:21] Torley Linden: IMs have long been a minefield for me, i can't manage mine... too many
[2008/10/23 12:21] JS Uralia: guru*
[2008/10/23 12:22] Torley Linden: that's why i use the Web tab in my profile, it has a contact form
[2008/10/23 12:22] Benski Trenkins: I remember the video where you show us what happens when you log in...
[2008/10/23 12:22] JS Uralia: capping wouldn't be so bad if there was some indication to the sender, preferably with the messages bounced back
[2008/10/23 12:22] alegria Garden: is there anypossibilty of having like a second life spacific emailing system ?
[2008/10/23 12:22] Benski Trenkins: •´¨*•.¸. HahahaA •´¨*•.¸.
[2008/10/23 12:22] Benski Trenkins: I'd be running away screaming
[2008/10/23 12:22] Torley Linden: there isn't one IM guru, but Zero knows a LOT about system architecture
[2008/10/23 12:22] alegria Garden: where ims can go to only that email address
[2008/10/23 12:22] Torley Linden: there've been some workarounds, alegria...
[2008/10/23 12:22] Torley Linden: not the most elegant but some people have set them up
[2008/10/23 12:23] Torley Linden: IMs delivered to email shouldn't be capped (unless there's a bug, or spam filter)
[2008/10/23 12:23] Squirrel Wood: yum yum. winbugs security update.... today.
[2008/10/23 12:23] Opensource Obscure: Torley, wouldn't you like a quicker way to change your Distance Draw ? I'd like it a lot ... did you ever talk to developers about that?
[2008/10/23 12:23] Torley Linden: Opensource, that and many settings. yes, long ago (2004) i wanted easy macro-ing between Graphics Prefs.
[2008/10/23 12:24] JS Uralia: there already is an SL-specific email system, Alegria, you can set IMs to email in preferences, and please vote for http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-391 to get unicode headers in email
[2008/10/23 12:24] Torley Linden: thanks for sharing that, JS
[2008/10/23 12:24] Torley Linden: the master slider has made it somewhat easier but still, too many clicks in actual practice.
[2008/10/23 12:24] Squirrel Wood: auto-performance? You specify a target frame rate and the client will try to stay as close to it as possible?
[2008/10/23 12:24] JS Uralia: ^_^
[2008/10/23 12:24] Torley Linden: but why would anyone want a low frame rate? (aside from testing)
[2008/10/23 12:25] Squirrel Wood: low end system? business computer? those are epic fail in the graphics department :p
[2008/10/23 12:25] Melvin Starbrook: hih torley doing good as ever
[2008/10/23 12:25] Melvin Starbrook giggles
[2008/10/23 12:25] JS Uralia: I was telling Pathfinder that the grid needs a better molecule rezzer than what Sigma Aldrich could find from some math professor at Oral Roberts U.
[2008/10/23 12:26] JS Uralia: I asked him if anyone was working on a jmol-to-prim converter
[2008/10/23 12:26] Torley Linden: Squirrel, oh, you mean, the Graphics Preferences will auto-adjust?
[2008/10/23 12:26] Torley Linden: hey hey Melvin
[2008/10/23 12:26] Kerry Giha: I dont mind a slower framerate if it makes the graphics look a whole lot better.
[2008/10/23 12:26] Squirrel Wood: yes
[2008/10/23 12:26] JS Uralia: he hasn't replied yet, but he accepted my molecule
[2008/10/23 12:26] Torley Linden: i wonder if there's any usable precedent for that, Squirrel.
[2008/10/23 12:26] Squirrel Wood: draw distance first, then other key settings
[2008/10/23 12:26] Torley Linden: draw distance seems like an easier win, tho.
[2008/10/23 12:26] Kerry Giha: But it still has to be greater than 10
[2008/10/23 12:27] Torley Linden: "if my viewer FPS drops below 10, lower my draw distance!"
[2008/10/23 12:27] Squirrel Wood: and you'd tell the client: I want at least n fps all the time
[2008/10/23 12:27] JS Uralia: oooh, adjusting draw distance based on average z-depth in field of view is interesting, like autofocus sorta
[2008/10/23 12:28] Squirrel Wood: a decent frame rate is important for a good experience :)
[2008/10/23 12:28] Torley Linden: for sure, Squirrel
[2008/10/23 12:28] Torley Linden: especially when someone doesn't have to think consciously about great results...
[2008/10/23 12:29] my Childs: a decent graphics card / pc ram is important to get good fps =)
[2008/10/23 12:29] JS Uralia realizes that people might not know what jmol is and rezzes a molecule in the middle of the table next to the cat
[2008/10/23 12:29] Torley Linden: there needs to be greater consciousness of good deals too
[2008/10/23 12:29] Torley Linden: some people mistakenly believe a great graphics card is more expensive than it actually can be found for on the open market!
[2008/10/23 12:29] Torley Linden: i surf sites like http://slickdeals.net , i'm a deals fanatic
[2008/10/23 12:30] Torley Linden: i get sad when people pay too much!
[2008/10/23 12:30] Simon Kline: there's some bargans out there to be had :D
[2008/10/23 12:30] Torley Linden: i've seen GeForce 8800GTs for US$100 after rebate, and those are excellent at that price
[2008/10/23 12:30] my Childs: new company by torley : Get you're cheap pc supplys here!
[2008/10/23 12:30] Squirrel Wood: Mayhaps you could have graphics presets for the different supported graphics cards ?
[2008/10/23 12:30] Simon Kline: i recently upgraded my poor duron 800 to a dual core intel and now sl is so much better... did it all for just under $500 AUST too
[2008/10/23 12:31] JS Uralia sets said molecule for sale for L$0 in case people want to look at it later
[2008/10/23 12:31] Torley Linden: Squirrel, well, unless there is a deep vested need in a specific area, graphics should autodetect on first install.
[2008/10/23 12:31] Torley Linden: nice to hear about that, Simon
[2008/10/23 12:31] Jaymes Kjeller: Some of the parts I have have been bought from ebay, after avoiding the dodgy people. I think I've bought a graphics card and a CPU from there.
[2008/10/23 12:31] Torley Linden: i <3 multi-core for multitasking
[2008/10/23 12:31] Kitten Radio: I start getting sad at how badly priced named computers are.
[2008/10/23 12:31] ShinIori319 Feichholz: Heya Torley!
[2008/10/23 12:31] Torley Linden: i think that graphics card naming is VERY confusing on the whole tho
[2008/10/23 12:31] Torley Linden: e.g., NVIDIA 200 series is faster than 9000 series? doesn't make sense to the casual viewer
[2008/10/23 12:31] Squirrel Wood: yes. I have to restore my graphics settings after installing new client versions :p
[2008/10/23 12:32] my Childs: i agree with you there torley
[2008/10/23 12:32] Squirrel Wood: because the client "detects" the "best" settings :p
[2008/10/23 12:32] Kitten Radio: I was more meaning Gateway, Compaq, but those names also are bad
[2008/10/23 12:32] Simon Kline: yeah! what was they thinking?
[2008/10/23 12:32] Simon Kline: heh
[2008/10/23 12:32] Jaymes Kjeller: How is there any difference between them? It's not known unless benchmarking is done.
[2008/10/23 12:32] Torley Linden: yeah Kitten, and the old Macs... before Steve Jobs came in and tightened up the reins again!
[2008/10/23 12:32] Torley Linden: Jaymes, yup... there's a lot of advertising and number charts, but those are too puzzling.
[2008/10/23 12:32] Squirrel Wood: the more pricey the card is, the better it must be.
[2008/10/23 12:32] Torley Linden: most people don't want to bother with that.
[2008/10/23 12:32] my Childs: its alot cheaper to build you're computer then buy a complete built one.
[2008/10/23 12:33] Torley Linden: i may get a new computer next year, but i'll be sure to explain why i chose which parts, too.
[2008/10/23 12:33] Squirrel Wood: ^^
[2008/10/23 12:33] Kitten Radio: Get a quad core Torley!
[2008/10/23 12:33] Torley Linden: i have a Q6600 right now Kitten :)
[2008/10/23 12:33] Torley Linden: Q6600 is like, such a venerable quad-core, it's even used in Dell and HP's budget systems now...
[2008/10/23 12:33] Torley Linden: budget as in US$500-600
[2008/10/23 12:33] my Childs: i'm running on 512 ram. (memory)
[2008/10/23 12:33] Kitten Radio: :) ive got the 98.. summin AMD myself, its being really nice on SL
[2008/10/23 12:33] Torley Linden: ah yes a Phenom
[2008/10/23 12:34] Torley Linden: multicore is VERY IMPORTANT if you web surf and use video/photo editing at the same time as SL
[2008/10/23 12:34] Kitten Radio: Or run multiple games
[2008/10/23 12:34] Torley Linden: and of course, your computer should always have well-rounded, balanced specs... powerful CPU won't do you much good with low RAM in SL
[2008/10/23 12:34] Jaymes Kjeller: Maybe at some point, I might rebuild my current machine. Possibly with a motherboard that can support a quad-core.
[2008/10/23 12:34] Simon Kline: *nods nods* alot of the motherboards that can handle dual core chips can be upgradeable to quad core when the chip prices become cheeper :D
[2008/10/23 12:34] Torley Linden: hard drives are falling big in price, on occasion now, i see 1 TB drives for US$120
[2008/10/23 12:35] Torley Linden: there was a price error on a US$100 one but that passed too quickly
[2008/10/23 12:35] Kitten Radio: lol
[2008/10/23 12:35] Torley Linden: and the more people buy them and the more the tech matures, the cheaper they'll get!
[2008/10/23 12:35] Kitten Radio: Aye!
[2008/10/23 12:35] my Childs: 1 TB 120? thats very cheap!
[2008/10/23 12:35] Torley Linden: it used to be such a struggle to get a computer that could play 3D accelerated games
[2008/10/23 12:35] Simon Kline: haha yes storage had gone crazy in the last 6 months, more room for photos and videos mmmmmm
[2008/10/23 12:35] Torley Linden: now, even integrated graphics chips can do basic 3D... and tech like Flash has made it way more accessible
[2008/10/23 12:35] Kitten Radio: I remember my 250gb went for 86 dollars american!, now, for the same price i can get double!
[2008/10/23 12:35] Torley Linden: yes Kitten!
[2008/10/23 12:36] Torley Linden: i got a 250 GB awhile back for about that price
[2008/10/23 12:36] Torley Linden: and BTW, that's 1 TB *external*
[2008/10/23 12:36] Kitten Radio nods.
[2008/10/23 12:36] Squirrel Wood: Yes! Get bigger harddrives. Lose more data than ever when they fail ^^
[2008/10/23 12:36] Torley Linden: so internal would be even cheaper...
[2008/10/23 12:36] Torley Linden: lol Squirrel, or GET MORE HARD DRIVES TO BACKUP (lol)
[2008/10/23 12:36] Kitten Radio: I just bought a 320 for 54.99 >.>
[2008/10/23 12:36] Squirrel Wood: Benski, your mike is open
[2008/10/23 12:36] Torley Linden: (i have my sound off)
[2008/10/23 12:36] Torley Linden: i like eSATA too if you have that option, substantially (up to 3x i think, correct me if i'm wrong) faster than USB 2.0
[2008/10/23 12:36] Squirrel Wood: raid. ^^
[2008/10/23 12:37] my Childs: Torley, do you have a gift drop box? =)
[2008/10/23 12:37] Benski Trenkins: sorry was on IM call, didnt notice it suddenly ended
[2008/10/23 12:37] Torley Linden: my, oh you can send it to my inventory via my profile :D
[2008/10/23 12:37] Torley Linden: i'll receive it directly
[2008/10/23 12:37] my Childs: What if you are offline?
[2008/10/23 12:37] Torley Linden: it'll still be sent to me
[2008/10/23 12:37] Torley Linden: and it'll say it gets saved
[2008/10/23 12:37] Torley Linden: "User offline"
[2008/10/23 12:37] Torley Linden: ;)
[2008/10/23 12:37] Jaymes Kjeller: I always tend to have backups of my files. The two external drives I have store entire system backups.
[2008/10/23 12:37] Ignatavicius Whybrow gave you Torley's Ridge.
[2008/10/23 12:37] my Childs: ok thanks =)
[2008/10/23 12:38] Torley Linden: good idea Jaymes, i've never regretted backing up. for the relatively low cost of storing precious memories and work
[2008/10/23 12:38] Torley Linden: or maybe your whole MP3 collection, hehe
[2008/10/23 12:38] Kitten Radio: half a decade of webpage bookmarks...
[2008/10/23 12:38] Ewan Mureaux: I just use DVDs which is good for clearing out junk you dont really need any more
[2008/10/23 12:38] Torley Linden: you have that many, Kitten? i collect many bookmarks too
[2008/10/23 12:38] Torley Linden: i used to use DVDs in cases before i had too much to backup that went into the multi-gigabytes
[2008/10/23 12:39] Kitten Radio: Yea, i lost a PC with nearly three years worth, was REALLY bad, was doing HTML and had everything hot and ready for acess
[2008/10/23 12:39] Torley Linden: and there's online backup services too, broadband isn't quite commonly there yet to upload at a fast enough rate for multi-GB sets (unless you have a much phatter connection) but it's coming
[2008/10/23 12:39] Nock Forager: My video library becoming so large because of iTune video...
[2008/10/23 12:39] Torley Linden: hahaha Nock :D
[2008/10/23 12:39] Jaymes Kjeller: I tend to favor complete system backups, which save everything, including the OS. Mind you, I've never restored the entire backup, only parts of it.
[2008/10/23 12:39] Torley Linden: ah yes Jaymes, i use Acronis TrueImage to do full disk imaging
[2008/10/23 12:39] my Childs: Well everyone, I can't hang around due to my 512 ram. I'm really lagging here. Take care and build you're heart out!
[2008/10/23 12:40] Torley Linden: then when disaster strikes (and it has) i can restore in a few hours without headaches
[2008/10/23 12:40] Torley Linden: take care my Childs!
[2008/10/23 12:40] Torley Linden: netbooks getting more popular too... anyone here use one?
[2008/10/23 12:40] Torley Linden: e.g., Asus EEE
[2008/10/23 12:40] Jaymes Kjeller: I haven't got a netbook.
[2008/10/23 12:41] Simon Kline: i haven't played with those much Torley how do they work
[2008/10/23 12:41] Kitten Radio: With the price drops, im more likely to buy a full blown, small sized laptop to be honest
[2008/10/23 12:41] my Childs: Ignatavicius should be sending our gift to you. I'm upgrading it atm. Cya!
[2008/10/23 12:41] Nock Forager: Me sometime using eeePC first model.
[2008/10/23 12:41] Squirrel Wood: http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm ^^
[2008/10/23 12:41] Simon Kline: ohhh the uber small laptop things
[2008/10/23 12:41] Torley Linden: basically, netbooks are smaller notebook/laptops that can connect to the Internet
[2008/10/23 12:41] Juko Tempel: my boss uses one.. loves it
[2008/10/23 12:41] Torley Linden: Kitten, that's fine, get what's right for your needs
[2008/10/23 12:41] Simon Kline: ahh yes! they look neat :D
[2008/10/23 12:42] Nock Forager: It's soooo slow but you can chat at least.
[2008/10/23 12:42] Juko Tempel: very portable and wifi.. screen is small but workable
[2008/10/23 12:42] Torley Linden: i might get a netbook for blogging on the road... purportedly there's a Samsung one that claims 10 hours of battery life... that seems kind of high, i'd be very surprised if it actually sustained
[2008/10/23 12:42] Torley Linden: Nock, ahhh :)
[2008/10/23 12:42] Kitten Radio nods.
[2008/10/23 12:42] Kitten Radio: I just see the pricing, and i realize you can get so much more oomph with a laptop...
[2008/10/23 12:43] JS Uralia: you know what ticks me off? Okay, I'll tell you. Kalpana Linden opened a chat session with LL Traffic Future and then didn't hand around for the ensuing discussion
[2008/10/23 12:43] Torley Linden: stuff that is very small or very large, you tend to pay for more... lol
[2008/10/23 12:43] Melvin Starbrook: but its hard to change the graphics card...
[2008/10/23 12:43] JS Uralia: hang around*
[2008/10/23 12:43] Nock Forager: I once tried to connectin SL from super express train running the speed 300km/hour. and it's works!
[2008/10/23 12:43] Torley Linden: JS, sorry to hear that, but did she just disappear? i don't think it was intentional
[2008/10/23 12:44] Torley Linden: i <3 alternate hardware controllers
[2008/10/23 12:44] JS Uralia: therefore I will share my idea for Traffic here: it should be based on the amount of L$ transactions per time in the parcel
[2008/10/23 12:44] Torley Linden: ah, Traffic, a contentious issue...
[2008/10/23 12:44] Torley Linden: there've been various discussions to revamp or obsolete it in the past
[2008/10/23 12:44] Torley Linden: we've moved closer to that with the current web-based Search
[2008/10/23 12:44] Torley Linden: but JS, couldn't that be gamed by paying alts?
[2008/10/23 12:44] Melvin Starbrook: i love garden sims.. but i never buy anything there lol
[2008/10/23 12:44] Kitten Radio: ..L$ based would be far too easy to milk >.>
[2008/10/23 12:44] JS Uralia: well the new "Showcase" thing doesn't seem to be so hot, it's already out of date: http://foo.secondlifeherald.com/slh/2008/10/lab-promotes-re.html
[2008/10/23 12:45] JS Uralia: Torley: it sure could; people have already tried that for th economy as a whole
[2008/10/23 12:45] Simon Kline: re alternate controllers: i saw some stuff you did with the space navigator in videos it looked great torley, i think it was the party by the barn
[2008/10/23 12:45] Torley Linden: JS, we thank Residents for updating our web editorial team if there's obsolete stuff -- i hope they did that ;)
[2008/10/23 12:45] JS Uralia: scripted transactions or transactions from sessions that don't send a human client signature should be discounted form the total
[2008/10/23 12:45] Torley Linden: yeah i'm trying to get in touch with 3dconnexion's marketing peeps and show them more cool SpaceNavigator videos, Simon
[2008/10/23 12:45] Torley Linden: party by the barn sounds like the time i saw Batman riding a bull!
[2008/10/23 12:45] Torley Linden: was that it?
[2008/10/23 12:46] my Childs gave you LSL2 - MONO (2 speed tests)(not the gift).
[2008/10/23 12:46] Simon Kline: oh cool :D
[2008/10/23 12:47] Torley Linden: that video is here... http://www.xfire.com/video/31334/
[2008/10/23 12:47] JS Uralia: well I tried to tell Kalpana but like I say, she skipped out on her own LL Traffic Future session.... and "Showcase" is in-world now as a tab in search -- so should I still tell someone on the web team?
[2008/10/23 12:47] Torley Linden: and if you're looking for a good free way to record Second Life movies, at least on Windows, try Xfire :)
[2008/10/23 12:47] Torley Linden: it can also broadcast your Second Life live
[2008/10/23 12:47] Torley Linden: (alpha feature, but worked well for me... nice and simple)
[2008/10/23 12:47] Juko Tempel: very cool
[2008/10/23 12:48] Torley Linden: JS, yes please...
[2008/10/23 12:48] Simon Kline: i've been playing with cam studio and found that good so far... been wanting to try xfire tho!! I want to make sure scripting from scratch vids so ppl aren't scared of scripting anymore :D
[2008/10/23 12:48] JS Uralia: who?
[2008/10/23 12:48] Jaymes Kjeller: I've recorded a few things with WeGame, but not with Xfire. Is RC support built into Xfire?
[2008/10/23 12:48] Torley Linden: Jaymes, not yet, but glad you asked, i pinged Xfire staff about it and they'll have a look.
[2008/10/23 12:48] Ewan Mureaux: I started a series like that simon
[2008/10/23 12:48] Torley Linden: i'll be in touch with them... i explained RC is like a public open beta with no NDA
[2008/10/23 12:49] Ewan Mureaux: search for "LSL what the hell?"
[2008/10/23 12:49] Torley Linden: JS, i believe Allison and/or Brett Linden. =)
[2008/10/23 12:49] Torley Linden: i like how that rhymes, Ewan. how very memorable.
[2008/10/23 12:49] Juko Tempel: search where Ewan?
[2008/10/23 12:49] Simon Kline: hah cool Ewan :D
[2008/10/23 12:50] Ewan Mureaux: need to do more but spend more time posting open examples in script academy now
[2008/10/23 12:50] Ewan Mureaux: the internets
[2008/10/23 12:50] Juko Tempel: aah ok
[2008/10/23 12:50] Nock Forager: Me and friends holding LSL Convention now at "New Script" region.
[2008/10/23 12:50] Ewan Mureaux: howcast has better quality, there is best
[2008/10/23 12:50] Nock Forager: And tomorrow we have Babbage Linden's speach session at there.
[2008/10/23 12:50] Nock Forager: http://lsl-con.org/2008/lsl-convention-2008-en.php
[2008/10/23 12:50] Torley Linden: i haven't used Howcast a lot, but glad you're sharing your videos there, Ewan. hope people who aren't yet part of Second Life get intrigued :)
[2008/10/23 12:51] Torley Linden: oh great to know about this, Nock!
[2008/10/23 12:51] Simon Kline: babbage is cool :D he couldn't thank everyone enough for testing mono
[2008/10/23 12:51] Nock Forager: If someone who interested in LSL very welcome!
[2008/10/23 12:51] Simon Kline: thanks heaps for letting us know nock :D
[2008/10/23 12:51] Torley Linden: cool, i'll make a note.
[2008/10/23 12:51] Ewan Mureaux: my shoutcast streaming video and how to seems to have gotten greater appeal than just inSL
[2008/10/23 12:51] Torley Linden: yeah, the mono guys were a real joy to work with and learn from... Babbage, Periapse, Scouse, Vektor...
[2008/10/23 12:51] Nock Forager gave you LSLCON JAPAN 2008 poster box.
[2008/10/23 12:51] Squirrel Wood: ^^
[2008/10/23 12:52] Juko Tempel: looks cool Ewan :-)
[2008/10/23 12:52] Ewan Mureaux: i call this < crabby hands though, it confused people
[2008/10/23 12:52] Ewan Mureaux: < >
[2008/10/23 12:52] Ewan Mureaux: imagine a crab
[2008/10/23 12:53] Ewan Mureaux: in my head at least
[2008/10/23 12:53] Torley Linden: headcrab?
[2008/10/23 12:53] Torley Linden: hehehe
[2008/10/23 12:53] Ewan Mureaux: ewwww
[2008/10/23 12:53] Torley Linden: like the half-life ones, i mean...
[2008/10/23 12:53] Torley Linden: well they are pretty gross :p
[2008/10/23 12:53] Ewan Mureaux: my mind was in the gutter
[2008/10/23 12:53] Juko Tempel: lol
[2008/10/23 12:53] JS Uralia wishes he could go to Japan for the LSL conference
[2008/10/23 12:53] Michele Hyacinth: smiles
[2008/10/23 12:53] Simon Kline: hahah omg! i played hl2 again the other day, was so much nicer with a new pc LOL
[2008/10/23 12:54] Torley Linden: i would imagine :)
[2008/10/23 12:54] Nock Forager: ah our convention is in-world.
[2008/10/23 12:54] Squirrel Wood: portal ^^
[2008/10/23 12:54] Torley Linden: you're a big Portal fan, aren't you, Squirrel?
[2008/10/23 12:54] Squirrel Wood: ^^
[2008/10/23 12:54] Torley Linden: and if anyone has any questions about video production, please let me know :)
[2008/10/23 12:54] Squirrel Wood: Aye
[2008/10/23 12:55] Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
[2008/10/23 12:55] Squirrel Wood: And if Portal is too easy for you... http://www.portalprelude.com/ will make your brain hurt :p
[2008/10/23 12:55] Melvin Starbrook: hihi i let you know when ours is ready :P
[2008/10/23 12:55] Torley Linden: NOW YOU'RE THINKING WITH PORTALS
[2008/10/23 12:56] Ewan Mureaux: have you been catching the latest series of heroes?
[2008/10/23 12:56] Torley Linden: YES
[2008/10/23 12:56] Torley Linden: i am a BIG fan of HEROES
[2008/10/23 12:56] Jaymes Kjeller: Note to self: Make a CC90 video and put it on Flickr...I must really do that.
[2008/10/23 12:56] JS Uralia: how many minutes of uncompressed SL video at 800x600 fit in a gigabyte? Where did the video recording tools that used to be in the File menu go?
[2008/10/23 12:56] Torley Linden: omg what plot twists, they've really done a lot of wonderful character development
[2008/10/23 12:56] Torley Linden: yes Jaymes, by all means!
[2008/10/23 12:56] Ewan Mureaux: I cant wait the two days sdelay til it shows here I have to download
[2008/10/23 12:57] Torley Linden: JS, removed because we couldn't support them and numerous codec probs -- i recommend checking out Xfire for that reason :) and http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Movie_Recording
[2008/10/23 12:57] Torley Linden: and uncompressed footage... prolly only a few seconds at that resolution, depends on FPS too tho, and what color mode
[2008/10/23 12:57] JS Uralia: right, I can figure out a 3rd-party app
[2008/10/23 12:57] Torley Linden: Ewan, ahhh. i won't spoil it. but glad you're into it too.
[2008/10/23 12:57] Ewan Mureaux: no i'm ful up to date
[2008/10/23 12:57] Jaymes Kjeller: I must do it, regardless of my personal feeling about how horrendous my voice sounds when recorded. :)
[2008/10/23 12:58] Ewan Mureaux: fully*
[2008/10/23 12:58] Torley Linden: i'm trying to get my wife onto Heroes, it's been an amazing 3rd season so far after the writer's strike that bogged down the last one
[2008/10/23 12:58] JS Uralia: I was having trouble with the stuff in the File menu, I went through a few gigabytes pretty quick
[2008/10/23 12:58] Ewan Mureaux: thanks to tpb
[2008/10/23 12:58] Ewan Mureaux: :D
[2008/10/23 12:58] Torley Linden: ohhh okay Ewan
[2008/10/23 12:58] Torley Linden: hahahaha
[2008/10/23 12:58] Torley Linden: yeah, the ending of that last episode was suspenseful ;)
[2008/10/23 12:58] Ewan Mureaux: I ruined it for an american friend though assumed she was ahead of me
[2008/10/23 12:58] Torley Linden: i sometimes post @ http://heroeswiki.com
[2008/10/23 12:58] Ewan Mureaux: so i told her bruce willis was a ghost too
[2008/10/23 12:58] Torley Linden: hahahahaha
[2008/10/23 12:58] Torley Linden: they have an AMAZING wiki insofar as community contributions
[2008/10/23 12:58] Torley Linden: i love great storytelling and narrative
[2008/10/23 12:59] JS Uralia doesn't watch any TV that isn't available over TCP/IP
[2008/10/23 12:59] Squirrel Wood: Maze. Labyrinth. :p
[2008/10/23 13:00] Torley Linden: "Mr. African Isaac!" lol
[2008/10/23 13:00] Ewan Mureaux: mwqahahahaahahaha
[2008/10/23 13:00] Torley Linden: oh, that was so funny
[2008/10/23 13:01] Torley Linden: Hiro's definitely a fave... who do you really like, Ewan?
[2008/10/23 13:01] Torley Linden: anyone else here watch Heroes?
[2008/10/23 13:01] Nock Forager: Still on season 1 X)
[2008/10/23 13:01] Melvin Starbrook: lol notime...
[2008/10/23 13:01] Torley Linden: ohh you have a lot of goodness to catch up with Nock :)
[2008/10/23 13:01] JS Uralia: that math professor from Oral Roberts University who made the molecule rezzer for Aldrich Chemistry is named Hiro
[2008/10/23 13:01] Ewan Mureaux: hmmm obviously Hiro, I really like sylar very very interesting. I have a love/hate relationship with peter petrellis facial expressions
[2008/10/23 13:02] Torley Linden: yeah i like how Sylar has grown beyond any simple 1-dimensional character
[2008/10/23 13:02] Ewan Mureaux: nothing to do with the rest of him just the faces he pulls while using his powers
[2008/10/23 13:02] Torley Linden: oh yeah, lol, i noticed that too, Ewan
[2008/10/23 13:02] JS Uralia: Hiro Sheridan
[2008/10/23 13:02] Torley Linden: i wonder why he named himself that way, JS?
[2008/10/23 13:02] JS Uralia: this is National Chemistry Week, by the way
[2008/10/23 13:03] JS Uralia: I don't know
[2008/10/23 13:03] Torley Linden: there's a National Chemistry Week? what about Physics week? :)
[2008/10/23 13:03] Ewan Mureaux: I was never into star trek but relly looking forward to it for Zachary Quinto
[2008/10/23 13:03] Juko Tempel: Thanks Torley :-)
[2008/10/23 13:03] JS Uralia: if this were physics week I'd be bitching about Havoc :D
[2008/10/23 13:03] Juko Tempel: see you another time!
[2008/10/23 13:03] Juko Tempel: bye all
[2008/10/23 13:03] Ewan Mureaux: bye juko
[2008/10/23 13:03] Nock Forager: bye
[2008/10/23 13:03] Simon Kline: tc juko!
[2008/10/23 13:03] Mayumi Fride: bye Juko :)
[2008/10/23 13:03] Torley Linden: take care Juko!
[2008/10/23 13:04] Torley Linden: doot doot
[2008/10/23 13:04] Jaymes Kjeller: Havok can never replace real-world physics. Though it would take up a lot of time to put in and run.
[2008/10/23 13:04] Squirrel Wood: http://failblog.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/fail-owned-yahoo-science-mirror-fail1.jpg
[2008/10/23 13:04] Torley Linden: so what else is new and exciting?
[2008/10/23 13:04] JS Uralia: did anyone not get a copy of my molecule who wanted one before it was autoreturned?
[2008/10/23 13:05] Torley Linden: hahaha Squirrel
[2008/10/23 13:05] Squirrel Wood: ^^
[2008/10/23 13:05] Ewan Mureaux: all this fuss about RRR and whether they said SL™ sucked a few months ago or not
[2008/10/23 13:05] Torley Linden: the people that started that failblog are the people who began the lolcats one i think
[2008/10/23 13:05] Squirrel Wood: Someone should have suggested using a webcam... :p
[2008/10/23 13:05] Torley Linden: i think i missed out on that Ewan <.<
[2008/10/23 13:05] blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/26610
[2008/10/23 13:05] JS Uralia: I also have dna construction kits...
[2008/10/23 13:05] Torley Linden: oooh DNA construction kits!
[2008/10/23 13:05] Torley Linden: just in time for Halloween... j/k
[2008/10/23 13:05] Crap Mariner: failblog is most excellent
[2008/10/23 13:06] JS Uralia gave you DNA in progress desk size.
[2008/10/23 13:06] Torley Linden: thx
[2008/10/23 13:06] Ewan Mureaux: remember samurai pizza cats?
[2008/10/23 13:06] Torley Linden: i totally watched that a lot, Ewan
[2008/10/23 13:06] Torley Linden: the theme song was audaciously catchy
[2008/10/23 13:06] Squirrel Wood: 99% of something is more than half. :p
[2008/10/23 13:06] JS Uralia: whops that's not it
[2008/10/23 13:06] Kitten Radio: Mmm, Pizza... *zones out*
[2008/10/23 13:06] Torley Linden: hey, here's an intriguing question: what % do you consider "most"?
[2008/10/23 13:07] Ewan Mureaux: just when you said "DNA construction kits!" I imagined it to the tune of "samurai pizza cats!"
[2008/10/23 13:07] Ewan Mureaux: I dunno why
[2008/10/23 13:07] Simon Kline: hehe > 60%?
[2008/10/23 13:07] Squirrel Wood: o'Drama & McPain :p
[2008/10/23 13:07] Torley Linden: i typically think of "most" as 2/3rds or about 66%
[2008/10/23 13:07] Crap Mariner: two-thirds
[2008/10/23 13:07] Squirrel Wood: if I get most of one thing then the others usually get nothing :p
[2008/10/23 13:08] Nock Forager: I feel so too. 70% or higher is good enough.
[2008/10/23 13:08] Squirrel Wood: until it breaks. then the others can have whats left of it :p
[2008/10/23 13:10] Torley Linden: it's... so... quiet...
[2008/10/23 13:10] Ewan Mureaux: has this torley come full circle
[2008/10/23 13:10] Allison Widdershins: Hi Torley! LOL
[2008/10/23 13:10] Torley Linden: full circle wha?
[2008/10/23 13:10] Torley Linden: hi Allison :)
[2008/10/23 13:10] Ewan Mureaux: because this version invented facelights
[2008/10/23 13:10] Kitten Radio: Holy smokes, two minutes of quiet.
[2008/10/23 13:10] Ewan Mureaux: and now we can turn them off
[2008/10/23 13:10] Allison Widdershins: Will the silence be unbroken?
[2008/10/23 13:10] Jaymes Kjeller: It just has been. :)
[2008/10/23 13:10] Kitten Radio: Looks like it has, we piped up.
[2008/10/23 13:10] Torley Linden: oh yeah, Advanced menu > Rendering > and disable Attached Lights
[2008/10/23 13:11] Squirrel Wood: shhh! ^^
[2008/10/23 13:11] Torley Linden: that's nice to see in there, for sure
[2008/10/23 13:11] Allison Widdershins: Okay I DO have a ?
[2008/10/23 13:11] Torley Linden: please do ask, Allison!
[2008/10/23 13:11] Allison Widdershins: Has the avatars going all black been a bigger issue recently?
[2008/10/23 13:11] Allison Widdershins: Or did Ener give me some disease?
[2008/10/23 13:11] Jaymes Kjeller: Speaking of which, I'm starting to use PhraseExpress a bit more now. Mostly when sending postcards to Flickr and the like.
[2008/10/23 13:11] Torley Linden: hm, is that the NVIDIA driver bug or a different one?
[2008/10/23 13:12] Kitten Radio: Oh, it might also be your video card
[2008/10/23 13:12] Torley Linden: there's a problem with the newest NVIDIA drivers where avatar mesh color looks wrong
[2008/10/23 13:12] Kitten Radio: Ive heard of that issue before, my friends video card was running too hot.. course, may be somthing bigger this time
[2008/10/23 13:12] Allison Widdershins: We have different NVIDIA cards, different platforms
[2008/10/23 13:12] Torley Linden: oh great to know Jaymes, it works SO useful for me
[2008/10/23 13:12] Allison Widdershins: Ok these were REALLY wrong
[2008/10/23 13:12] Allison Widdershins: like I couldn't even see my eyes :/
[2008/10/23 13:12] Kitten Radio: Every worn texture went black?
[2008/10/23 13:12] Torley Linden: Allison, hm, i'd need more details or point me to a specific Issue Tracker #... and if Rebake Textures didn't cure it... yikes
[2008/10/23 13:12] Allison Widdershins: Just skin
[2008/10/23 13:12] Allison Widdershins: av skin
[2008/10/23 13:13] Torley Linden: used to be LONG ago, that dual monitors caused black avatars. but i don't think that's so much of a concern presently... thus, there are other possibilities.
[2008/10/23 13:13] Jaymes Kjeller: I think it's the NVIDIA bug. Although I have heard of a workaround on the JIRA, which involves turning off Palletised Textures. Though I don't know if it's the one that's being refrred to.
[2008/10/23 13:13] Kitten Radio: My friend Lumi's PC did that, but to ALL textures... it cooked everything to be pure black unless it was an attached prim.
[2008/10/23 13:13] Allison Widdershins: We found that from the Mentors earlier today
[2008/10/23 13:13] Kitten Radio: Has to be programming this time, but id still suggest a can of air to the video card
[2008/10/23 13:13] Allison Widdershins: or a mallet
[2008/10/23 13:13] Kitten Radio: He had to mallet his video card and buy a new one himself >.>
[2008/10/23 13:13] Allison Widdershins: well there you go
[2008/10/23 13:14] JS Uralia: there, there's the DNA construction set, on the watermellon in the middle lear the kitten

[2008/10/23 13:15] Torley Linden: that sounds like an unpleasant surprised :\
[2008/10/23 13:15] Ewan Mureaux: all plugged in now and smoothness
[2008/10/23 13:15] Squirrel Wood: todays graphics cards need more power than the pci-e slot can deliver.
[2008/10/23 13:15] Crap Mariner: with great power cables comes great responsibility?
[2008/10/23 13:15] Squirrel Wood: usually you need to plug in one or two additional power connectors
[2008/10/23 13:16] Torley Linden: hahaha Crap
[2008/10/23 13:16] Allison Widdershins: sounds like you need to reroute the starboard power couplings just to get your av the right color these days
[2008/10/23 13:16] Squirrel Wood: the gtx-280 needs one 8pin and one 6pin connector to operate.
[2008/10/23 13:16] Squirrel Wood: then again, it can soak up more than 350W
[2008/10/23 13:17] Ewan Mureaux: well i best be off and eat, nice to see you again mr T
