This is a personal page^[1], not an official source from either LL^[2] or any viewer etc.

Names

Agni: This is the normal / real Second Life grid that everyone normally is on.

Aditi: Aka: Beta Server, Test Server, Preview Grid, etc. A test server that just runs a few sims, and not always the same.

Grid: Is used for meaning world / server, Second Life is (or was) referred to as The Grid, because it is a grid of sims. Originally each sim ran on a server so server means a lot of things in Second Life, grid is the entire world.

OpenSim: Open source thing, not run by Linden Lab, if you use a viewer that enables these, make sure to not give them your Second Life log in details. This is NOT the Test Grid.

Money

Uploads cost Linden Dollars on the Test Grid just as on the main grid, but it is free since you are given new money now and then if you are below 50000 or something Linden. Forgot how often and how much.

Viewer Specific Details

LL Viewer

To enable log in to Beta Grid:

Preferences -> Advanced -> Show Grid Selection at login

In the grid selector (appears below the Login Location selector when enabled):

Second Life Main Grid (Agni) = Agni

Second Life Beta Test Grid (Aditi)= Aditi

Firestorm

To enable log in to Beta Grid:

Preferences -> Advanced -> Allow log in to other grids (Not all grids will support Firestorm)

In the grid selector (appears below the User Name field when enabled):

Second Life = Agni

Second Life Beta = Aditi

Singularity

I have not found the exact details for this viewer, but as far as I know it does support mesh uploads and can be used to test things.
