CopyBot est un programme écrit avec [http://www.libsecondlife.org/ libsecondlife] (mais ni affilié ou distribué par l'équipe libsecondlife) qui se connecte sur Second Life et qui permet de faire des copies d'objets sans la permission du créateur.

* Copybot n'as pas besoin d'autorisation pour copier un objet. Son utilisateur n'a pas besoin de posséder l'objet.
* Copybot ne peut seulement copier que les objets qu'il peut directement voir. Il ne peut pas entrer dans un magasin et copier tous les produits car il ne verra que les vendeurs.
* Copybot n'est ni un objet de Second Life ni un script. C'est un programme qu'une personne lance depuis son ordinateur à la place du client habituel de Second Life. Il se connecte comme un avatar normal.
* Utiliser Copybot ou un autre programme pour faire des copies d'avatars, d'objets ou de textures qui ne vous appartiennent pas est une transgression du réglement de Second Life (les TOS) et entrainera un bannissement.
* Si l'un de vos objets est copié, vous pouvez faire le signaler à Linden Lab et remplir une DMCA contre lui.
* Les helpeurs ou encore les mentors ne vous diront pas où obtenir un copybot.
* Le copybot en lui même n'est pas interdit dans SL. C'est sont utilisation pour copier les créations d'autres résidents qui est une interdite
* Le "Copybot Defeater" essaye de se débarasser des copybots en envoyant le message "!quit" en continue à tout les résidents à proximité. Cela a fonctionné quelques temps car cela correspondait à la commande de déconnection du Copybot, mais le Copybot fut rapidement patché pour l'ignorer. Ces objets de défenses font à présent obsolètes et n'ont plus aucun effet outre celui de déranger tout le monde.

== Comment puis-je stopper les messages venant du copybot defeater? ==

# Ouvrez votre historique de chat en cliquant sur le bouton "chat" en bas a gauche de votre interface a coté de "IM".
# Dans la fenêtre de chat, faites défiler l'historique en cliquant sur les flêches "haut" ou "bas"
# Dans la liste des noms, cherchez celui vous ayant envoyé le message, ouvrez la liste des ignorés (Affichage > Liste des ignorés) et ajoutez le nom de l'objet.

NOTE: Il y aura peut-etre plus d'un objet alors vous aurez a recommencer cette procédure plusieurs fois pour tous les arréter.

ATTENTION: En faisant cela, dans beaucoup de cas vous risquez d'ignorer également le propriétaire du terrain. Dans ce cas, si vous n'entendez plus le propriétaire ou ses vendeurs, vous devrez temporairement démuter le copybot defeater.

Si cela ne s'arrête pas après cela, vous devriez contacter le propriétaire de l'objet et le rediriger sur cette page, lui expliquant que son script ne marche plus. En dernier recours vous pouvez remplir un ticket auprés du support de SL et essayer de régler la situation avec un médiateur.
Si le libsecondlife vous est familié, il existe un code source pour un programme disponible sur http://libsecondlife.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/IMResponder/ logant un bot qui reagira aux "!quit" et qui vous enverra les information sur son propriétaire et sur l'emplacement de l'objet.
