There is apparently a bug in the wiki that may mess up the alphabetic order. Just editing and saving a page that is out of order is enough to put it back in order. The ordering bug rears it's ugly head when the templates used on every function page are changed (fix bugs in the templates etc).

Most of the content from the header had been there since LSL portion of the wiki was in its infancy. During that time, it was not a usable resource and putting notes on article pages to coordinate the work was reasonable. At this time, the content has mostly stabilized to a usable state. As to the comment about the sort order, it is infact a bug in the wiki and if you review the page history, multiple people posted comments about it on the article page, hence the comment. At this point, you are right, it is not appropriate and it's removal is called for. :Thats a known issue, a rather annoying one at that. Editing any pages that are out of order fixes the problem for that page. This bug shows up when ever several hundred pages are forced to update all at once (as a result of updating one of the main templates). It is - just not where it belongs. llAtan2 is in the wrong place as well. See the above note about it being a bug in the wiki software. There's quite a few of these, and I'm not sure if, from what the above comment says, simply going in and making a do-nothing edit to them would fix the problem. - TaraLi Jie

==Missing Functions - question==
I've updated all the out of order entries I could find, and hopefully all entries are being listed, but I have a question. do we have a master list of functions somewhere we can refer to when checking to make sure all entries are present? currently, if the function category pages are to be believed there are 334 functions. does that sound right? I tried a few searches but was unable to nail down a search that would return all the function pages except 'll' and that returns damn near every page in the wiki =)

oh one other small annoyance... it seems the wiki sorts category pages all caps first (byte sorting), instead of letter first (-eg 'X' comes before 'c')... in some cases not so bad, in others they make the entry seem out of place and hard to find for the average person familiar with alphabetical order. any chance of this behavior being modified? (I know the wiki runs slow enough as it is, so understand if the answer is no) -- {{User|Void Singer}}

:In the future please sign you comments. The reason the categories are screwed up I believe is because the wiki is rendered by two servers and on massive renderings of the pages (like when a template is changed), the category tables get out of sync between the two servers. You don't have to make any meaningful changes to the pages, just get the server to rebuild it. The sort variable isn't needed, it gets autogenerated (I've been trying to get people to stop using it).

:I setup the categories as they are (with the constants being listed as lower case) so it would be easy to find things. It's not fun having to dig through a mess of constants to find a function or vice versa, it's more useful to have them separate. I deemed it more important to have it be useful then having it be lexicographically correct. Or is this some other sort issue with functions? I'll put it on the ToDo list to examine the outcome of making the function sort keys uppercase. We should accrue some other proposed changes for the template before doing this, it eats a lot of CPU time to render all the pages and it screws up the category listings.

::whoops forgot the sig =) I tried an absolute do nothing edit(open edit, save edit) but it didn't seem to force an update to the listing. Didn't see any notes about not using the sort flag, in the future if it won't update, I'll remove that flag to force it. is there any way that the servers can be made to pause while updating, before trying to resynch? or check an update version # from one to the other beforehand? not familiar with the software so I couldn't guess.

:::I don't really use the minor-edit flag properly, half the time i don't use it when i should and a quarter of the time i check it by accident. As to what exactly constitutes a minor edit, I am sure there is a Wikipedia article on it. You might try purging the page (append ?action=purge) to the url, I forget if it works. If the sort is messed up on an article I try to find something to add to the article besides just pushing it's internals around. I apologise for the bad layout, I do not know how to force a WIKI page in the WYSIWIG Format.

1: Light Medaillon:
This Panel Gives out the Light Medaillon which an AV carries around his / her neck.
This willgive the AV and others around him / her light at night and in dark SIMs.

2: Orientation Guide 2.06 and 2.13:
This panel gives out the Orientation guides, a Gesture called Hula, and various Notecards regarding the Use of the Guides.

3: Calibrate Texture:
This panel gives out an Instruction note to correctly calibrate your Monitor for the use with Second Life.
The picture on that panel is to be used to do this correctly.

4: ShowText:
This panel gives out a miniature Prim with the Script "Floating Text" inside.
The Floating Text Script can be modified to represent any text that the AV wants to be projected above his / her head.
This Prim is to be attached to the Right Ear, as where the Offset centres it inside the AV Head.

5: Voice Chat:
This panel gives out a Notecard on how to setup, configure, and use Voice in Second Life.
As gift of gratitude for using Voice, the panel allso gives out a Headset that the AV can wear to show others that he / she is on Voice. (ONLY co-Voicers can see it at the Voice-Dot above the AV Head, Non-Voice Residents cannot, beceause they do NOT see the Voice-Dots.)

==What's the problem exactly?==

When running Second Life on an affected MacBook Pro, your machine completely freezes up. The cursor doesn't move, pressing the Caps Lock key does not change the Caps Lock light and your machine is no longer reachable from any other machine on the network. The only means available to recover is to hold the power button down until the Mac powers off and then restart it.

==Is my MacBook Pro affected?==

If you have a GeForce 8600M GT graphics chip, then it probably is. Only the 2.2 and 2.4 GHz MacBook Pros have this model of video card at the current time. To see if you have this graphics card, go to Apple Menu -> About This Mac and then click the "More Info..." button, or open /Applications/Utilities/System Profiler.app. In the window that appears, select "Graphics/Displays" out of the "Hardware" category.

The problem appears to be the drivers for the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT. The MacBook Pro in question is the 2007 2.2 and 2.4 GHz machine running Mac OS X 10.4.9 and 10.4.10. This issue may be fixed in a future software update from Apple, and so this material may become invalid in the somewhat near future.

Described problem still persists with Mac OS X 10.4.11 (released nov. 14, 2007) on MacBookPro3.1 with 2.4 GHz processor and Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT.

==What's the workaround?==

For the impatient types, the workaround is to use OpenGL Profiler to run the Second Life application using the "Radeon X800 XT v1.5 ATI-1.4.0 (10.4)" renderer instead of the native one. If you don't know what that means or how to change your drivers, keep reading for instructions.

==Install OpenGL Profiler==

The OpenGL Profiler application is installed as part of the Xcode installation. You can download the latest Xcode installer from Apple's developer site ( http://developer.apple.com - on that page under "Software Downloads"). You will probably need to make an ADC Online account, which is free. The Xcode download is '''very''' large - about 1 GB. You can also find Xcode on the Mac OS X installation discs that came with your Macbook Pro.

Open the <tt>.dmg</tt> file and install the "XcodeTools" package.

==Install the OpenGL Profiler Update==

The OpenGL Profiler application installed by Xcode tools must be updated to work with the 8600 graphics card. You can download the OpenGL Profiler Update from Apple's developer site. You must already have OpenGL Profiler installed (from the Xcode tools) to use the updater. To get this, you need to use your ADC account and login to http://connect.apple.com and check under "Downloads" then "OpenGL".

Open the <tt>opengl_profiler_update.dmg</tt> file and install the "OpenGL Profiler" package.

==Start the OpenGL Profiler==

You can find "OpenGL Profiler" in /Developer/Applications/Graphics Tools after you've installed it as described above.

Go ahead and open it up. You should see a dialog like this:

Click the little plus button. It's circled in red here:

Navigate to /Applications/Second Life and then click the "Choose" button. Your window should now look like this:

If there are any other versions of the Second Life application on your hard disk that you're going to want to use, go ahead and click the plus button and add each one to the list.

Now click the little disclosure triangle circled in red here:

In the extended dialog that appears, do the following:

# Select the Second Life application you want to start by clicking it in the list at the top
# Click the pop up in the Launch Settings section and change the value from "Native Graphics Driver" to "Radeon X800 XT v1.5 ATI-1.4.0 (10.4)" (it's the last one in the list).

Your window should now look something like this:

Go ahead and click the "Launch" button that is circled in red here:

You should now be able to run Second Life without experiencing the total system freeze lockup crash badness. Please note that it is possible to pick other drivers from the list, but so far, picking other NVIDIA drivers does not avoid the crash and picking other ATI drivers gives undesirable performance.

==IMPORTANT NOTES==

* OpenGL Profiler '''does not remember''' the driver setting once you quit it. You must always expand the Launch Settings section and make sure the "Radeon X800 XT v1.5 ATI-1.4.0 (10.4)" driver is selected before clicking the "Launch" button.
* This is '''not''' guaranteed to work. There have been a few Lindens testing this using pre-release software for a while now to make sure nothing horrible happens, but please do this at your own risk. Using drivers that are not designed for your hardware is generally not advised.
* Don't do this forever. Apple will likely have a system update which will make this workaround obsolete. Please check back here often for updates, or hit the "watch" button at the top of the wiki page to be notified when this page is changed.
