This page is for detailing compatibility issues that certain graphics cards have with Second Life. Note that officially, we only support what's listed on our [http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php System Requirements]. However, we understand some Residents want to run SL on unsupported configurations — your results may vary, but hopefully sharing info will give you a better idea of what to expect.

== Drivers ==
We ''highly'' recommend updating to the newest stable versions:

* [http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp Download Nvidia drivers]
* [http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html Download ATI drivers]

[http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=001 More info.]

Ideally, we want SL to run and not crash on any graphics card that supports OpenGL Version 1.2 or later. Realistically, we can only support the latest version of drivers right now.

== Driver Issues ==

Sometimes you may get an error message upon starting Second Life that claims your drivers are out of date or unsupported. First download the latest drivers for your graphics card and install them. If you have recently done so and have the latest drivers, try reinstalling them, as sometimes a broken install occurs silently (especially with NVIDIA drivers) and a reinstall clears up the problem.

== Drivers on the Mac OS X platform==
It is often assumed that Mac OS X does not use graphics card drivers, and it is certainly true that separate graphics card "updates" and "drivers" cannot be downloaded for the Mac.

HOWEVER - OS X certainly does use graphics card drivers, but incorporates them into the OS itself. With the Mac, Apple integrates the hardware and software more closely than with Windows : the advantage - problems arise only rarely; the disadvantage - Macs are generally much less upgradeable with respect to their graphics capabilities. Does this mean that any problems that emerge cannot be resolved?

Not quite : on the occasions when a graphics driver has to be updated for Mac, it will be incorporated into the next Software Update release for the OS itself. So if you keep yourself up-to-date with these, then driver upgrades will take care of themselves.

The viewer is authoritative about camera position. The server uses the client's reported camera position to decide which objects to transmit to the client.

Second Life uses a different coordinate frame than OpenGL. Our frame is X-at(forward), Y-left, Z-up. This is the infamous CFR (Cory's Favorite Reference) frame. See llviewercamera.h.

The viewer camera is implemented in newview/llviewercamera.cpp based on llmath/llcamera.cpp.

The camera position and look-at vector is transmitted by send_agent_update() in llviewermessage.cpp. This function is called once per frame and can transmit packets up to 20 times per second. Note that it does not transmit unless the agent or camera position or rotation have changed.

Camera movement can be accomplished with the keyboard (Ctrl-Alt-AWSD) or mouse (Alt-drag). Movement commands call into LLAgent::cameraOrbitAround() and similar functions. This accumulates motion and rotation through the frame.

The camera has several "modes", including third person, first person ("mouselook"), appearance editing, etc. These are managed in LLAgent, not LLViewerCamera.

This is a first stab and documenting the current xml file format as used in the Second LIfe viewer. Its not meant to be pretty, just useful (I hope).

The only conventions I can find defined on the wiki are as [https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linguistic_QA_with_the_Second_Life_Viewer#Adjust_the_Size_of_Widgets_and_Interface_Elements follows:]

===Widget Options===
You will see the following information in XML files as you go. This is what all the options mean:
(This is a work in progress!)

<b>Name</b>
* name="SuperZenWidget" // name of the widget. You will use this name in the code to identify your widget when you need it

<b>Width and Height</b>
* width="100" // sets the width of the widget to be 100 pixels
** Note: This is the entire width of the widget, not just the label.
* height="20" // sets the height of the widget to be 20 pixels
** Note: This is the entire width of the widget, not just the label.

<b>Left</b>
* left="10" // sets the horizontal position of the left edge of the widget to be 10 pixels from the left edge of the panel or floater
* left_delta="100" // sets the horizontal position of the left edge of the widget to be 100 pixels from the left edge of previously listed widget
** Note: Use left *or* left_delta, never both.

<b>Bottom</b>
* bottom="300" // sets the vertical position of the bottom edge of the widget to be 300 pixels from the bottom edge of the panel or floater
* bottom="-30" // sets the vertical position of the bottom edge of the widget to be 30 pixels from the top edge of the panel or floater
* bottom_delta="-30" // sets the vertical position of the bottom edge of widget to be 30 pixels from the bottom edge of previously listed widget
** Note: Use bottom *or* bottom_delta, never both.

***Note: All floaters, panels and widgets appear to accept these, so I will simply refer to them as "coordinates" rather than spell them out for each file.
