Summary
A short summary of the topics and decisions of this meeting (old agenda):
- Update on Localization Portal
- Due to some showstoppers, the planned opening of the Localization Portal might be postponed untill mid February
- There is a new language specific linguists group for Dutch Linguists called Dutch Linguists Translation Team.
- Request for all Community Translators: Please join the CT Project mailing list!
- Request for a group notice in the Second Life CT Projects group with a reminder to join the mailing list.
- Localization Central (128, 128, 0)🖈 is now open for the public. Suggested improvements:
- A meeting area so meetings of linguist groups can take place and don't have to be in Tenera anymore.
- An information area about current translation projects and how to take part
- In order to be able to test the viewer settings, different 16m² parcels are needed. These are
- one parcel with 'no build', 'no script', 'no fly', 'no voice', 'no push'
- one parcel with banlines
- one parcel with 'no object entry'
- one parcel without parcel media, one with 'image', one with 'audio', one with 'video', one with 'web' as parcel media and one with a music stream (all next to each other).
- one parcel where it's allowed to change its name as well as the classified/land information (to test i18n test strings)
- a parcel with terraforming allowed
- a parcel to buy/sell (with instructions to set to 'sell' again after it's bought)
- a bigger parcel where build & script are allowed (for groupmembers). Sandboxlike.
- Decided on a Google group instead of a Yahoo group to manage a mailing list for mentor linguist (non-CT) stuff
- Link is: http://groups.google.com/group/mentor-linguists
- Decided to require the Tao of Volunteers for posting there
- In order to manage the list, it's suggested to indicate
- language project the message is about
- language the message is written in
- via iso codes. Example
- [de_en]: German project, mail is written in English
- [es_fr]: Spanish project, mail is written in French
- Request to help out with LSL Category Localization
- Discussion about renaming the 'Mentor Linguists' group or merging it with the 'Second Life CT Projects' group.
- Discussion will be continued in the CT-Project mailing list.

Transcript
- [12:03 SLT] Zai Lynch: okies, think we can start :-) first point is just a small update on the planned localization portal. this is supposed to become the new tool for knowledge base and blog translations as well as a glossary etc.
- [12:04 SLT] Zai Lynch: it was supposed to 'go live' in january, but simone linden reported that there would have been some showstoppers and that it's not sure
- [12:04 SLT] Zai Lynch: if the software company which is providing the portal, will be able to fix them till the end of the month
- [12:05 SLT] Zai Lynch: so they are currently still testing and hoping that it might be online at the end of the month... but it looks like it would need to be postponed.
- [12:05 SLT] Zai Lynch: heyas gally =)
- [12:05 SLT] Lara Shepherd: Hi Gally
- [12:05 SLT] Lisa Lowe: hi gally
- [12:05 SLT] Gally Young: Hello ^^
- [12:05 SLT] Zai Lynch: ^_^
- [12:06 SLT] Zai Lynch: everyone who joined the community translation project should have gotten a group invitation from lexie linden lately
- [12:06 SLT] Lisa Lowe: We spoke to Danica yesterday and she mentioned it will probably ready half of februari somewhere
- [12:06 SLT] Zai Lynch: oh neat!
- [12:06 SLT] Zai Lynch: are there sheduled meetings with danica somewhen?
- [12:07 SLT] Lisa Lowe: we had one about the dutch CT program going on
- [12:07 SLT] Lisa Lowe: with both Lexie and Danica
- [12:07 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah i see... i was thinking of putting together some kind of timetable with all the related office hours and meetings
- [12:07 SLT] Zai Lynch: heyas kira =)
- [12:07 SLT] Zai Lynch: e
- [12:07 SLT] Zai Lynch: sorry ^_^ kire
- [12:08 SLT] Kire Laasonen: Hello
- [12:08 SLT] Kire Laasonen: :-)
- [12:08 SLT] Gally Young: Hello Kire )
- [12:08 SLT] Kire Laasonen: Hello Gally
- [12:08 SLT] Lisa Lowe: hi Kire
- [12:08 SLT] Zai Lynch: danica opened up the "Localization Central" island to provide some space for linguists. have any of you been there already?
- [12:08 SLT] Kire Laasonen: Hello Lisa
- [12:09 SLT] eva Nowicka: yes, me
- [12:09 SLT] Blaise Timtam: yes
- [12:09 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yes
- [12:09 SLT] eva Nowicka: i was the other night
- [12:09 SLT] Blaise Timtam: nice place
- [12:09 SLT] Lisa Lowe: no, not yet
- [12:09 SLT] Kire Laasonen: First time for me
- [12:09 SLT] Lisa Lowe: still waiting for access
- [12:09 SLT] Lara Shepherd: it is public now, everyone can go
- [12:09 SLT] Lisa Lowe: oh right......you sure?
- [12:09 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yes, they changed it
- [12:09 SLT] Lisa Lowe: ok. I didn't know that
- [12:10 SLT] Lara Shepherd: but no building anymore allowed, which is a bit odd if we are supposed to test something :)
- [12:10 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I suppose that can be arranged if needed
- [12:10 SLT] Zai Lynch: i was quite surprised that LL™ provided so much space for linguists. so i wondered if we could think about a way to use it and then provide some suggestions for danica on what to add/change
- [12:11 SLT] Lara Shepherd: good idea :)
- [12:11 SLT] Zai Lynch: what lara mentioned - the no build areaa - would be something i'd like to suggest for a change... since it would be good to have space to test every menu of the viewer and it's not good to have the options greyed out
- [12:11 SLT] Zai Lynch: (can test em almost all with admin options... but anyway)
- [12:11 SLT] Lisa Lowe: lol
- [12:11 SLT] Zai Lynch: ^^
- [12:12 SLT] Lara Shepherd: with admin option on you still can't build though
- [12:12 SLT] Lisa Lowe: We could have some kind of wall or so with status updates on all the projects going on.
- [12:12 SLT] Zai Lynch: like a message board?
- [12:12 SLT] Lisa Lowe: Many hardly realize how many languages are translated right now
- [12:13 SLT] Lisa Lowe: or boxes with note updates.......anything that works easily
- [12:13 SLT] Gally Young: metting places & informations boards would useful ^^
- [12:13 SLT] Lisa Lowe: yeah
- [12:13 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah yuss. i'd like to have the mentor linguists meetings there too then, in case we had a place for it
- [12:13 SLT] Zai Lynch: some public use building like this one
- [12:13 SLT] Lisa Lowe: maybe some kind of progression meter on every language? :)
- [12:14 SLT] Zai Lynch: hehe. would look kewl =)
- [12:14 SLT] Zai Lynch: heyas sergen
- [12:14 SLT] sergen Davies: heya Zai
- [12:14 SLT] Gally Young: Hello Sergen :)
- [12:14 SLT] sergen Davies: heya all :)
- [12:14 SLT] Zai Lynch: i also thought about asking the localization specialists to move their offices there. it would be neat to have them all gathered in one place
- [12:14 SLT] Lara Shepherd: hi sergen
- [12:14 SLT] Lisa Lowe: Danica could put up some general rules about translations also maybe?
- [12:15 SLT] Zai Lynch: like a style guide?
- [12:15 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I think the place should stay for testing. Best not let everyone build their office there.
- [12:15 SLT] Lisa Lowe: Yeah.......like we had a discussion on formal or informal style
- [12:16 SLT] Gally Young: One main meeting place could be enough )
- [12:16 SLT] Lisa Lowe: She prefers formal style.........things like that
- [12:16 SLT] Zai Lynch: not sure if it would be many. i think we got 4 lindens who would use a space there (noelle, rika, simone and danica). so reserve maybe 1/4 of the sim for offices like "localization village", then some space for information like what you mentioned, and have half the sim for testing or so
- [12:17 SLT] Lisa Lowe: better have a big area for meetings instead
- [12:17 SLT] Gally Young: maybe 1 place for CT project and 1 place for mentor linguist project ? :)
- [12:17 SLT] eva Nowicka: nice idea, Lisa
- [12:17 SLT] Zai Lynch: that would be neat. don't think if we need to seperate...
- [12:17 SLT] Gally Young: 1 meeting area is enough according to me )
- [12:18 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah i think... so we'll suggest that to danica =) one more at testing: how should the land be set to be available for testing?
- [12:18 SLT] Lisa Lowe: It should not turn in a bunch of offices with tons of freebie stuff and so on.
- [12:18 SLT] Gally Young: but maybe a place to give informations about current "mentor linguist projects" could be interesting :)
- [12:19 SLT] Lisa Lowe: everything going on with translations
- [12:19 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah yuss
- [12:19 SLT] Lisa Lowe: maybe a collection of available translators also?
- [12:19 SLT] Zai Lynch: so an information area about progress in the CT projects and available resident driven projects as well as a meeting place
- [12:20 SLT] Lisa Lowe: just try prevent everyone building it's own little corner there
- [12:20 SLT] Zai Lynch: that would be hard to keep up to date i guess. i'd like to see the list of groupmembers as a list of available translators
- [12:20 SLT] Zai Lynch nods
- [12:21 SLT] Zai Lynch: but @ testing: how should parcels be set? i think we need about 6 small (16m²) parcels with different media settings to get all the different options in the media player. then maybe some smallish terraform parcel? something else?
- [12:21 SLT] Zai Lynch: so question is: which settings are needed to get all the options in the viewer visible in order to check them
- [12:21 SLT] Lisa Lowe: some parts could be set with all permissions, i guess
- [12:22 SLT] Gally Young: various land restriction (push, no build, etc)
- [12:22 SLT] Gally Young: to test the icons near the menu
- [12:23 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah... so we can have one no build, no push, no fly, no script, no voice parcel for the icons
- [12:23 SLT] Gally Young: yes ^^
- [12:23 SLT] Zai Lynch: ^^
- [12:23 SLT] Lisa Lowe: to be able to test the client, some parts may require full rights.
- [12:23 SLT] Zai Lynch: i think it would be good to have the right to rename one parcel in order to test strings for i18n bugs
- [12:24 SLT] Gally Young: ho and classified/land information with international char ^^
- [12:24 SLT] Gally Young: ^^
- [12:24 SLT] Zai Lynch: so full rights at one 16m² parcel for members of the CT Translator group?
- [12:24 SLT] Lisa Lowe: one parcel Mature, another PG so you check if it shows ok in the client
- [12:25 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah right!
- [12:25 SLT] Gally Young: one deeded to the group
- [12:25 SLT] Lisa Lowe: The size isn't important, I guess. As long as you can test the client.
- [12:25 SLT] Blaise Timtam: we need to check ban line and buy pass lines collision too
- [12:25 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah. so 16m² is smallest i think.
- [12:26 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I think we need parcels with all kinds of different settings indeed.
- [12:26 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah yuss! gotta make notes ¹^^
- [12:26 SLT] Gally Young: one parcel with terraforming options
- [12:27 SLT] Lisa Lowe: one that you can actually buy and do Deed stuff and so on
- [12:27 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah. this is just brainstorming to collect these settings so we can forward them to danica. so we can get everything we need. and would be best to have these parcels marked with maybe a sign on what's there. so doN#t have to search for the right parcel for your particular test
- [12:27 SLT] Lisa Lowe: right Zai....some giant signs with instructions
- [12:27 SLT] Zai Lynch: i think a parcel to buy is difficult since you always gotta remind the one who bought it that s/he puts it for sale again?
- [12:28 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I think the lindens can always claim it back if something goes wrong?
- [12:28 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah i think so.... but would be good to have as few maintainance needed as possible... will put it on the list though ^^
- [12:29 SLT] Lisa Lowe: clear instructions can do the trick already
- [12:29 SLT] Gally Young: parcel with/without voice
- [12:29 SLT] Zai Lynch: yupp... something like a sign with pictures like it would be supposed to be on an orientation island
- [12:30 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah yuss!
- [12:30 SLT] Lisa Lowe: right
- [12:30 SLT] Lisa Lowe: translations in many languages are going on, so soon there will be many different people testing their viewer there :)
- [12:30 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I hope, at least :)
- [12:31 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah me too ^^
- [12:31 SLT] Gally Young: and what would be GREAT : an other sim in which we could be estate owner (to test the dedicated options)....
- [12:31 SLT] Zai Lynch: ok, i think in case we got further ideas, we can post em on the CT project mailing list. i'll put the ones we got so far together and post them there too for danica
- [12:32 SLT] Lisa Lowe: is there a CT mailinglist also?
- [12:32 SLT] Zai Lynch: oh yeah i guess that would be awesome ^^ but i doubt we get a second one.. or that they give estate rights for the current one. to much stuff to fool around with too
- [12:32 SLT] Gally Young: currently it's impossible to test Estate/sim owner options...
- [12:33 SLT] Gally Young: it's too dangerous to do on the CT sim according to me....
- [12:33 SLT] Blaise Timtam: that i will test on my sim
- [12:33 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah is true...
- [12:33 SLT] Zai Lynch: @lisa: yes, there is one at https://lists.secondlife.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/ctproject
- [12:34 SLT] Lisa Lowe: cool.....i will enlist soon
- [12:34 SLT] Zai Lynch: i wanted to ask every CT member to join this list so lindens can actually use it. i'll ask danica if she can send a notice in the Community translators group (or how it was called)
- [12:34 SLT] Zai Lynch: i think few people noticed the list...
- [12:35 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I had never heard of that before yet :)
- [12:36 SLT] Zai Lynch: that brings us to another topic: mailing lists. there is the official one for the CT project and as far as i understood lexie, she wanted to keep it to CT project _only_. so we thought about a list for resident driven projects and discussions like these
- [12:36 SLT] sergen Davies: ok
- [12:36 SLT] Zai Lynch: when we met last month (apologies again that i was way late last time (x_x) rly sorry). we opened 2 lists now and we can have a vote which one to use
- [12:37 SLT] Zai Lynch: one is a google group and one is a yahoo group. i dunno which is more popular... they both are offering kinda the same options
- [12:37 SLT] Zai Lynch: i got three votes for google so far from german linguists... but i'm open for whatever fits for most people
- [12:38 SLT] Lisa Lowe: We started working in Google Docs already
- [12:38 SLT] Lisa Lowe: so that might be the most logical for us then
- [12:38 SLT] Zai Lynch: oh, what's google docs?
- [12:38 SLT] sergen Davies: yep Google docs
- [12:38 SLT] Lisa Lowe: It's amazing for working together
- [12:39 SLT] Lisa Lowe: It is like Word or Excel online
- [12:39 SLT] Lisa Lowe: all shared
- [12:39 SLT] Karin Redgrave: hello all
- [12:39 SLT] Zai Lynch: heyas karin :-)
- [12:39 SLT] sergen Davies: i agree lisa
- [12:39 SLT] Zai Lynch: neat... sure plus for google in this case...
- [12:39 SLT] Lisa Lowe: you can work in it at the same time. It even has a chat option build in.
- [12:40 SLT] Karin Redgrave: real groupware
- [12:40 SLT] Zai Lynch: like a word- or excel-wiki + chat?
- [12:40 SLT] Lisa Lowe: We are currently looking at a domain version, with calendar, notes, documents.....the works
- [12:40 SLT] sergen Davies: yes
- [12:40 SLT] Zai Lynch: is it free?
- [12:40 SLT] Lisa Lowe: it works almost the same as Word and Excel
- [12:40 SLT] sergen Davies: yes
- [12:40 SLT] Lisa Lowe: yep. totally free
- [12:40 SLT] sergen Davies: it's free
- [12:40 SLT] Zai Lynch: neato!
- [12:41 SLT] Lisa Lowe: you can only invite those involved also
- [12:41 SLT] Zai Lynch: ok.... so that's much pro google.. anyone for yahoo? or should we dump the yahoo list?
- [12:41 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I never use Yahoo at all
- [12:41 SLT] sergen Davies: me too...
- [12:42 SLT] eva Nowicka: i prefer yahoo because i used it always, but i use google too :)
- [12:42 SLT] eva Nowicka: and yes, google docs can be useful
- [12:42 SLT] Zai Lynch: i didn't use any of them before so is all new to me ^^ no preferences
- [12:42 SLT] sergen Davies: :)
- [12:43 SLT] Blaise Timtam uses neither but looking forward to try google docs
- [12:43 SLT] Zai Lynch: anyone else like to add a vote? otherwise, i think we end with google ^^
- [12:43 SLT] Karin Redgrave: google is good to work with
- [12:43 SLT] Zai Lynch: okiesh, google then :-) lemme search the link....
- [12:44 SLT] Zai Lynch: http://groups.google.de/group/mentor-linguists there we go. i'll remove the yahoo one later then
- [12:44 SLT] Blaise Timtam: oh that's for german
- [12:44 SLT] Blaise Timtam: ?
- [12:44 SLT] Lisa Lowe: bookmarked it :)
- [12:44 SLT] Zai Lynch: no. it's just that only germans tested it so far ^^
- [12:45 SLT] Zai Lynch: is the interface set to german for you too?
- [12:45 SLT] Zai Lynch: or just the messages?
- [12:45 SLT] Lisa Lowe: maybe open an american version or so. The de might be confusing for some.
- [12:45 SLT] Gally Young: http://groups.google.com/group/mentor-linguists ?????
- [12:45 SLT] Lisa Lowe: de as in germany
- [12:46 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah....will use gallys link then ^^ didn't pay attention to that
- [12:46 SLT] Karin Redgrave: but this link is a discussiongroup link
- [12:46 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah. but these work as a mailing list once you joined
- [12:47 SLT] Lisa Lowe: make one big mailinglist for every language
- [12:47 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah that's it
- [12:47 SLT] Lisa Lowe: might be interesting to follow :)
- [12:47 SLT] Zai Lynch: we came up with some ideas on how to manage that problem....
- [12:47 SLT] Zai Lynch: so we can indicate two things in the header of each message
- [12:48 SLT] sergen Davies: yes i make a request to join :)
- [12:48 SLT] Karin Redgrave: so did I
- [12:48 SLT] Karin Redgrave: for google docs the link is http://docs.google.com/
- [12:48 SLT] Zai Lynch: first: project the message is about. second: language the message is working in. with these iso codes. something like [de_en] would mean: message about the german project, written in english. [es_fr]: message about the spanish project, written in french
- [12:49 SLT] Zai Lynch: do you think that would be usable?
- [12:49 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah thx! =) will have a look into that after the meeting
- [12:50 SLT] Lisa Lowe: Might be helpfull, as long as it doesn't become a lot of work to maintain
- [12:51 SLT] Zai Lynch: well, everyone who writes a message should write that in the header. like "[de_en] idea about german addition to localization central"
- [12:51 SLT] Zai Lynch: or so
- [12:51 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I bet many will forget that
- [12:51 SLT] Lisa Lowe: if you can't read the message, it probably wasn't for you :)
- [12:52 SLT] Zai Lynch: lol. yuss ^^
- [12:52 SLT] sergen Davies: lol
- [12:52 SLT] Lisa Lowe: just keep it simple
- [12:52 SLT] Zai Lynch: will set up an instruction page or so... and i think we can set the tao as a standart for conversations in the list?
- [12:52 SLT] Zai Lynch: *tao of volunteers, that is
- [12:52 SLT] Lisa Lowe: yeah....some tao won't hurt
- [12:53 SLT] Lisa Lowe: CS, TAO, the works.......lol
- [12:53 SLT] sergen Davies: all..
- [12:53 SLT] Lisa Lowe: not everyone is a mentor in our group.
- [12:54 SLT] Zai Lynch: kewl :-) ok, so much on the mailing list. i'll send a group notice about that later then and cross fingers that there are a few people joining and starting discussions
- [12:54 SLT] Karin Redgrave: well all discussion groups have moderators, keep it simple
- [12:54 SLT] sergen Davies: yes
- [12:54 SLT] Zai Lynch: yupp. that's another item from the agenda which we can start in the last five mins: the group roles in the mentor linguists groups
- [12:55 SLT] Zai Lynch: we had them set to "SL French Mentor" etc. etc. and recently got rid of at least the "mentor" part. though due to limitations, we can only create 10(?) roles per group
- [12:56 SLT] Lisa Lowe: Is this specificly for the SL Mentor group, you mean?
- [12:56 SLT] Zai Lynch: and we got more different languages than that... it felt like a discrimination to just choose a few languages for the roles... so i wanted to get rid of these. and ask for other role names or roles needed
- [12:56 SLT] Zai Lynch: it isn't anymore. so we got rid of the "mentor" part
- [12:57 SLT] Zai Lynch: some people felt uncomfortable with the SL™ Mentor tag while they were no 'official' volunteers
- [12:57 SLT] Lisa Lowe: isn't there just one role in SLM called 'Linguist' or so?
- [12:57 SLT] Zai Lynch: yes, in SLM. but i meant in the 'Mentor Linguists' group
- [12:57 SLT] Lisa Lowe: oh right
- [12:58 SLT] Lisa Lowe: We just created our own group, besides SL Dutch Mentors already existing
- [12:58 SLT] Zai Lynch: we'd loose the advantage to easily distinguish people by the language they're speaking... at least those who got their roles set so far. but roles like "russian" or "polish" etc are missing... and we can't create them
- [12:59 SLT] Zai Lynch: oohh can you give me the name? i'm trying to keep the list of available groups for linguists up to date
- [12:59 SLT] Lisa Lowe: ok.....Dutch Linguists Translation Team
- [12:59 SLT] Lisa Lowe: or DLTT for short :)
- [12:59 SLT] Zai Lynch: kewl :-) thx!
- [13:00 SLT] Zai Lynch: hehe
- [13:00 SLT] Lisa Lowe: we may have to many groups already
- [13:00 SLT] Lisa Lowe: SLM, linguists, dutch mentors, our own group.....
- [13:01 SLT] Lisa Lowe: and Danica wanted to create one for the island also
- [13:01 SLT] Zai Lynch: i think the SLM isn't needed for that purpose. the mentor linguists are thought to be an 'umbrella' for the language specific groups. so it's not needed either when you're in a language specific group i think. as long as messages/notices from here are forwarded to the others
- [13:02 SLT] Zai Lynch: and the CT group from danica is CT specific. while we're trying to have all translation projects (not only the official ones).
- [13:02 SLT] Zai Lynch: which leads me to... we need translations for https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mentor_Linguists/LSL_Cat_L10n
- [13:03 SLT] Zai Lynch: already got translations for some languages but in case you're speaking a language which is still not added there it would be kewl to have a translation for the terms =)
- [13:03 SLT] Zai Lynch: or forward it to someone you know and who can script a little... it's about LSL categories
- [13:04 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I done that one already.......just see it needs some corrections now :)
- [13:04 SLT] Dawny Daviau: hi all (sorry im late)
- [13:04 SLT] Zai Lynch: yuss. but also the other ones around :-) i think we got dutch, french, one page in greek, and german so far
- [13:04 SLT] Zai Lynch: heyas dawny =)
- [13:04 SLT] Lisa Lowe: hi Dawny :)
- [13:05 SLT] Karin Redgrave: hi dawny
- [13:05 SLT] Zai Lynch: no prob. the transcript (and summary! ^^) will be in the wiki later. we're just through with agenda i think
- [13:05 SLT] sergen Davies: hi Dawny
- [13:05 SLT] Gally Young: hello Dawny ^^
- [13:06 SLT] Lisa Lowe: We need a place with all information in one central place
- [13:06 SLT] Dawny Daviau: "Helllooooooo!"
- [13:06 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I notice there are many things going probably half the linguists have no idea about right now
- [13:07 SLT] Lisa Lowe: (sorry for the lousy english here.....kindda tired)
- [13:07 SLT] Gally Young: A notice about all "mentor linguist project" currently available would be interesting )
- [13:07 SLT] Zai Lynch: yuss... so everything related to the group is stored at https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mentor_Linguists . danica is often updating the CT Project page with updates
- [13:07 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah yuss. we could try to manage that. so all CT projects and all resident driven projects...
- [13:08 SLT] Lisa Lowe: Just remember lots of non mentors are working on it also.
- [13:08 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah, 'Mentor Linguists' is open for anyone.
- [13:08 SLT] Lisa Lowe: ditch the Mentor part.....
- [13:09 SLT] Zai Lynch: holly (the founder) wanted to remain it for historical reasons. i asked her if she'd be ok with a change but didn't wanted to step on her feet after she denied
- [13:10 SLT] Lisa Lowe: this is about the CT/Localization project, right?
- [13:10 SLT] Zai Lynch: so can see it like: by translating, we're doing a mentors job. helping SL™ residents. no matter if we're 'official' mentors or not. we're mentors anyway
- [13:10 SLT] Lisa Lowe: not someone's toes.....
- [13:11 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah but it's just a name. and i wouldn't want to do that since she had the faith in me to act on her behalf. wouldn't want to break trust just because of a name. we're explaining the name in the "who we are" part in the wiki. and changed the role names
- [13:12 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I just see everything going on as one big project, wiki or not
- [13:12 SLT] Lisa Lowe: with people that are mentors and not
- [13:12 SLT] Gally Young: but people can believe they can't participate to meeting/projects/groups of the "Mentor Linguists" because they aren't Mentors
- [13:13 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah i see it the same way
- [13:13 SLT] Lisa Lowe: don't make anyone hesitate as they are not a 'mentor'
- [13:13 SLT] Blaise Timtam: tho i did
- [13:13 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I see mentoring and the translations as two different things
- [13:14 SLT] Zai Lynch: hm... and you think an explanation in the charta of the group, as well as on the wiki page won't do the job?
- [13:14 SLT] Karin Redgrave: agree with lisa here
- [13:14 SLT] Gally Young: when people read "Mentor Linguists" they mainly read "Mentors"
- [13:15 SLT] Lisa Lowe: Maybe we should ask Danica and Lexie for the best way to promote and control things. So they can keep up also.
- [13:15 SLT] Gally Young: meybe we could your the CT group ?
- [13:15 SLT] Gally Young: *amybe
- [13:15 SLT] Gally Young: *maybe
- [13:15 SLT] Gally Young: use
- [13:15 SLT] Gally Young: <==== is tired ^^
- [13:16 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I know they already had problems getting messages out with all the different groups now.
- [13:16 SLT] Zai Lynch: hm. lexie and danica are owners in the group (as well as the other lindens involved). using the CT group for non CT stuff (meaning: non official stuff, like the wiki stuff) isn't something that lexie wants
- [13:16 SLT] Gally Young: currently we have 3 groups : contry group/ mentor linguist group & CT group
- [13:16 SLT] Gally Young: *country (french, german, etc.)
- [13:17 SLT] Karin Redgrave: sorry guys, have to leave
- [13:17 SLT] Karin Redgrave: good night
- [13:17 SLT] Lisa Lowe: I am overloaded in groups already also. Still need a few slots for my shopstuff also :)
- [13:17 SLT] Karin Redgrave: cu soon
- [13:17 SLT] Dawny Daviau says Bye Bye !
- [13:17 SLT] Zai Lynch: np karin =) will have the transcript and stuff in the wiki later. cyas! =)
- [13:17 SLT] Karin Redgrave: thanks, bye bye
- [13:17 SLT] Blaise Timtam: must scoot too
- [13:17 SLT] sergen Davies: good night Karyn
- [13:17 SLT] Blaise Timtam: bye
- [13:17 SLT] Lisa Lowe: bye
- [13:17 SLT] Gally Young: bye )
- [13:17 SLT] eva Nowicka: bye :)
- [13:17 SLT] Dawny Daviau: gbye
- [13:17 SLT] Kire Laasonen: Bye Karin
- [13:17 SLT] Zai Lynch: yeah but the mentor linguists group isn't needed when you're in the country specific group. all relevant notices for your language should be forwarded
- [13:18 SLT] Gally Young: Maybe the Mentor Linguist group and the CT group could be merged ?
- [13:18 SLT] Lisa Lowe: yeah......one big group would be nice for everyone
- [13:18 SLT] Zai Lynch: hm... maybe... in case we can convince the lindens that we're allowed to post notices about non-CT stuff
- [13:19 SLT] sergen Davies: ...mhmhm...ok
- [13:19 SLT] Gally Young: or they use the mentor linguist group to manage the new sim )
- [13:20 SLT] Gally Young: and to manage CT projects )
- [13:20 SLT] Zai Lynch: hm... or that way... would be like a merge but with keeping the 'mentor linguists' name where appearently many would like to get rid of(?)
- [13:20 SLT] Zai Lynch: *off
- [13:20 SLT] Gally Young: mmm yes, correct :/
- [13:21 SLT] Lisa Lowe: Also the wiki should have an index page about everything to do with translations.
- [13:21 SLT] Zai Lynch: ok, we're running really late... i'd suggest the following for now: everyone joins the CT project mailing list and we discuss it over there. since lexie and danica are reading this list as well, we could get direct feedback
- [13:22 SLT] Lisa Lowe: ok
- [13:22 SLT] Gally Young: ok ^^
- [13:22 SLT] Kire Laasonen: ok
- [13:22 SLT] sergen Davies: ok :)
- [13:22 SLT] eva Nowicka: :)
- [13:22 SLT] Zai Lynch: kewl =) link once again is: https://lists.secondlife.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/ctproject
- [13:24 SLT] Zai Lynch: when transcript and summary are posted, I#ll send a notice in the group again (i hope it gets through) as well as a mail on the google group... will close the yahoo one and then send the suggestions for the island in the CT mailing list. then we can start a new topic about merging groups, renaming groups and stuff....
- [13:24 SLT] Zai Lynch: was a nice discussion :-) thank you all for coming!
