:::Ah, marv showed me that one once. It seems like a neat thing to have in order to replace the transclusion of article pages. He once pointed me to a Wiki where they used it in article pages to specify the size and population (etc.) of countries. Each country had an article with the values marked. And then they could make an article and display it all in a neat table, drawn from the article functions. Just like [[llSetPrimitiveParams]] but less expensive. Speaking of ''expensive''... I want more than 100 #ifexist calls per page again, as we had before the update to 1.14... hrm. ^^

Categories?

Hm... What's the benefit of this article over categories? Having it all on one page? --Zai signature.png (talk|contribs) 01:21, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Don't forget that it isn't bugged like the categories. Course I pity the person who has to update it periodically (I'm not doing it). I wonder if I updated the static lists during the last function add? -- Strife (talk|contribs) 04:09, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
@ bugged categories: Are you referring to the localized pages showing up in the English cats? I noticed that a couple of times and pondered if it'd be an artifact from an ancient template change that didn't propagate through the wiki? A null edit on the localized page usually fixed it, tho I don't know: Is it re-occuring / just a temporary fix? I think I once read MediaWiki documentation, which mentioned bugginess for categories applied by templates, tho I don't recall it in detail.
There seems to be more category weirdness, as some don't honor their __HIDDENCAT__ flag. E.g. Category:Pages with translation/es on the main page. Ugly...
@ last function add: How do you keep track of these? Might be time again to fiddle with the GeShi highlighter and add the latest additions.

@ bugged categories: That would be it, and sometimes the english articles don't even show up properly. I haven't seen any lasting fixes for it. I kinda forget but I think the logic for it may be in a nested template (used by all the LSL templates) it might be the nesting that is the problem. I hadn't read that before in the MediaWiki docs, but then I haven't done an exhaustive search.
Never noticed the problems with __HIDDENCAT__ but apathy has over taken me with regards to taking the time to applying to all of those translation categories.
@ how do I keep track? ummm I look at what the high numbered functions are in the dynamic part of the id category page and then I look to see if they are listed in the static portion. Then I mod the generator page to include the new functions and copy and paste the code (after stripping it of the comments and changing it to the right type of list).

Nested like {{Something{{something_else}}}} stuff? Hrm... Guess I'll find out soon...
Oh... I should apply them to the translation ones. I think this was over-engineered as I don't know if people are using it at all @_@. Tho I still like the idea.
Ugh... I guess I'll just have a look at your last additions to the static page ^^. And then add that stuff to the GeShi file in April (in case it's not already done until then)...

I'm interested to have this map of LSL functions for my own. So why not create it here? I will continue the edit on my user page and will make it available when almost complete. Michele Wardark 5:00, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

You don't need to do that, it looked good. We didn't mean to scare you off or discourage you. If we thought the information was sub-par we would have commented to that effect. -- Strife (talk|contribs) 05:07, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
p.s. I would make the headers link to the categories.
Yeah, like Strife said, discouragement wasn't the goal. My comment was motivated by a mix of curiosity and interest (since I fear that a great part of the category's target audience isn't actually using any categories to browse the wiki). So I tried to understand the intention behind the page to think about how to make it easier to keep up to date. I pondered if something like Extension:CategoryTree could be used to meet the same goal. (In case we had the extension and in case categories would work reliably...)
