Record your Second Life experiences with snapshots that you can post to your profile feed, email to friends, or save to your inventory or computer.

The window shows a preview of the snapshot with the file dimensions and size. Click to take a new snapshot and refresh the preview.

Click:

  • Post to My Profile Feed to post the snapshot to your activity feed.
  • Email to email your snapshot. The maximum size for sending a snapshot via email is one megabyte (1 MB); if your snapshot exceeds that, lower Image quality and click .
  • Save to My Inventory (L$10) to upload your snapshot to your inventory. Upload fee is ten Linden dollars.
  • Save to my computer to save your snapshot to your local hard drive.

Image settings

Adjust these image settings with any of the methods of sending a snapshot.

Use the dropdown to select your image size. The thumbnail preview shows the affected area. To create a custom size, choose Custom and enter values for Width and Height in pixels.

Select Constrain proportions to preserve the image's aspect ratio.

Use the Image quality slider to set the quality of the snapsnot. Lowering image quality reduces file size. Available for Save to my computer and Email only.

Post to profile feed

Caption   Text caption for the snapshot in your activity feed.
Include location   Include the SLurl with the snapshot in your activity feed.

Email

Click Settings to enter image settings.

To:

  Enter the email address in the standard format. For example, resident@secondlife.com. You can also enter multiple recipients, each separated by a comma: someavatar@gmail.com, anotherfriend@yahoo.com, torley@lindenlab.com.
From:

  Your email address, displayed to the recipient(s) of the snapshot. To change it, go to your Second Life Dashboard. You may need to relog into Second Life for changes to take effect.
Subject:

  The subject line of the emailed snapshot.
Message

  A text message to add to the email.

Click Send to email the snapshot or Cancel to reset the window.

Save to my computer

Format   Select PNG, JPEG, or BMP. PNG provides the best balance between quality and filesize.

Advanced options

Capture  
  • Colors - Takes normal pictures.
  • Depth - Shows the per-pixel 3D information of a scene. This information can be used when post-processing in an image editor, like Photoshop, to create distance blur when combined with the color information.
Interface   Select to capture the Second Life Viewer user interface in your snapshot: all menus, windows, and controls except Snapshot Preview are captured. Useful for instructional screenshots.
HUDs   Select to capture heads-up-displays in your snapshot.
Keep open after saving   Check to keep Snapshot Preview open after emailing, uploading, or saving a snapshot.
Freeze frame (fullscreen)   Check to see a fullscreen preview of your snapshot. Like the thumbnail, click to update the preview. This is usually unchecked.
Auto-refresh   Updates the thumbnail preview every time a Snapshot Preview setting is changed. Otherwise, you need to manually click .
