LSL Experiments
My little experiments with LSL include:
- Wand
- This is a magician's wand that glows in different ways each time the user touches it

- Top Hat
- Magician's hat that with an associated menu generates a grass platform, Borg style dodecahedron or living 'hub' (I'm always tweaking improvements)
- The dodecahedron was a neat challenge to get the 3D mathematics right, it took me ages to get the rotations right. With a prim count of 12 it makes a pretty efficient instant room.
- Builder's chair
- The builder's chair is much like the freebie Sky Platform as it will transport you to a desired height (to 4,000m) and generate various living hubs or domes and some basic furniture (inc. GMT clock) ((I'm using the term Builder in the sense that Larry Niven would))
SL Wish List
Generally I only dip into SL to play with scripting. I enjoy the 3D environment but would much prefer it if I could use this as my working online office (it would be great to be able to have current projects lying about as virtual objects which launch google spreadsheets, draft emails etc.) but I'm a little frustrated at the lack of an IM or VOIP portal. Now if SL could offer me a free Skype interface that can video conference so I can see a RL person on my virtual SL screen and they can see my avatar in my SL office, that would be pretty cool...
Hardware problems
One of the reasons I rarely venture into SL is that it will not run on my Macmini. It's actually a pretty powerful machine with Intel duo 1.6GHz, 160GB hard disk, 2GB RAM and I regularly run Leopard with Windows 2000 also running using Parallels. Unfortunately SL will not run on it due to the graphics processor which is a rather lame reason as I'm sure any problems could be shoved through an emulator as it has processing power to spare. Sigh.
