There seems to be either a bug or an ambiguous phrasing on the wiki page here. Tests have shown that the function call always returns false if the owner is not on the same region as the object running the script. Detailed report on Canny llIsFriend fails if owner is not present on region.
Would this be intended functionality, it would severely limit the usefulness of this function, especially since no asynchonous equivalent via the dataserver exists.
