:Hi Halcyon!
:Try to log in at a different region. Start your Second Life client, browse to '''Edit > [[Preferences Window Guide|Preferences]]''' and check the ''"Show Start Location on Login Screen"'' checkbox. Click ''Apply'' and ''OK''. A new input field will appear beneath your username. Enter the name of a Second Life region in there (e.g. "Hippotropolis"). Then log in. You should connect to that region directly and it ''should'' solve your problem.

:Good Luck and hope to have you back in SL soon!

When I try to log in, the handshake takes a while and then I get a message saying the place I was before is not available and offering to let me log out or teleport to my home. Unfortuantely my home is not available either and so teleport results in being logged off as well. There seems to be no way I can access my avatar and/or log in to SL.

Hi Halcyon!
Try to log in at a different region. Start your Second Life client, browse to Edit > Preferences and check the "Show Start Location on Login Screen" checkbox. Click Apply and OK. A new input field will appear beneath your username. Enter the name of a Second Life region in there (e.g. "Hippotropolis"). Then log in. You should connect to that region directly and it should solve your problem.
When it's not solving it, please file a support ticket in the Support Portal :-)
Good Luck and hope to have you back in SL soon!
