Zusammen mit der normalen freiwilligen Hilfe für die Second Life Gemeinschaft, sind die Mentor Buddies (Kumpel) versierte, bewährte Freiwillige in der Gruppe, die gerne bereit sind von anderen Freiwilligen kontaktiert zu werden. Diese Rolle ist komplett zustimmungspflichtig und enthält zusätzliche Verantwortung, aber für die vielen unter euch, die neuen Freiwilligen helfen wollen sich zurechtzufinden, ist dieses Verzeichnis genau das worauf ihr schon lange gewartet habt.

Warum Mentor Buddies kontaktieren

• Ratschläge für wie, wo und wann Freiwilliger zu sein (volunteer).
• Ratschläge an wen man einen besorgten Einwohner weiterleiten kann, oder wie man eines Einwohners Problem löst.
• Ratschläge wie man auf unerwartete Umstände im grid reagiert, z.B. Missbrauch Bedenken.
• Um eine Führung zu Freiwilligen Plätzen anzufragen, zu zeigen wie das geht in einer bestimmten Region oder Umgebung.

Wie einen Mentor Buddy finden

(In der Menüleiste von Second Life die Funktion Edit > Groups wählen. Die Gruppe Second Life Mentors markieren und den Info Schalter auf der rechten Seite anklicken. Dann die Registerkarte Members & Roles am oberen Fensterrand wählen. Eine Liste der Mentoren die online sind kann im Register Members gefiltert werden, und eine Liste der Mentor Buddies findet sich im Register Roles. Wir nehmen Vorschläge entgegen, so ihr welche habt, wie dieser Vorgang einfacher gemacht werden kann. Daran wird noch gearbeitet.)

• Daran denken, wenn du einen Mentor Buddy kontaktierst und dieser ist busy, bitte die Privatsphäre Mentor Buddy respektieren. Hat sie oder er sich für diese Second Life Mentor Rolle entschieden, sind doch alle Freiwilligen frei das Erlebnis Second Life zu geniessen, ausserhalb des Freiwilligen Bereichs. Ist dem so, kann es sein du wirst aufgefordert einen anderen Mentor Buddy zu kontaktieren, oder einfach dass Mentor Buddy beschäftigt (busy) ist und dass du dein Anliegen zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt vorträgst. Dennoch, Mentor Buddies sind begierig verfügbar zu sein wenn sie können. Bitte nicht vergessen ihnen zu danken für ihre Unterstützung!

Finer Points on a Mentor Buddy's Responsibility

Ability to answer these questions and requests is at the discretion of the Mentor Buddy. If you, as a Mentor Buddy, are occupied or unavailable to help when contacted, THIS IS OKAY. However, please make it your responsibility to communicate your availability to the volunteer who is looking to you for help, and/or request that they speak to another Mentor Buddy if that is needed. During volunteer orientation, we will convey as best as possible that the Mentor Buddy role is opt-in and that Mentor Buddies may not be available upon request. We want the Mentor Buddy role to be as pain free as possible, but also note that the added responsibility is something that must be handled with great care.

Requirements for Maintaining Mentor Buddy Status

The primary purpose of the Mentor Buddy system is to help new volunteers get acquainted with the volunteer program by showing them the ropes. As such, we ask that Mentor Buddies be willing to be a guest speaker at at least one [1] orientation session for new volunteers. In order for this to work, VTeam members (in the future: Coaches!) who are hosting orientation sessions may review the list of online "Mentor Buddies" prior to an orientation session and ask one Mentor Buddy to attend the session. Because Second Life Volunteers are not required to volunteer at any set time, it is absolutely possible to defer the request to attend the session at a later date. We will maintain a list of those who have spoken and mark whether or not you would like to attend more than one of these orientation sessions.

Initial sign up for this position will not require that you speak in front of the orientation attendees. However, we ask that to secure this position over time that you do attend one session to represent yourself as a Mentor Buddy. No "cut off" date or deadline is set presently for speaking at these orientation sessions, and should one be created, due notice will be given to those who wish to maintain their status as Mentor Buddy.
