Please add according to category any additional external services you know of that connect with Second Life.

Popular Places/ Bookmarking Service

  • Tagging http://www.sloog.org/ (OBJECT CENTRIC)
    • Bookmarking service
    • provides either "most tagged" or "most recent"
    • can click on user and see their tags and locations- no profile info
    • provides teleport
    • about tagging a location- can custom name a location but no notes
    • requires login from SL to post
  • Social Bookmarking http://www.gridmarker.com/ (OBJECT CENTRIC)
    • uses HUD IW to sign up
    • add friends and watch their lists
    • plus tagging and RSS
    • requires a bit more technical savvy

    • like digg for SL content, but not all content is SL related
    • lots of spam
    • can comment to posts

Popular Objects IW

    • need to go IW to get HUD
    • no profiles at all, just listings with ratings

Events

    • all of the events in Second Life are automatically added to this website
    • allows people to "demand it"
    • need to change location to "Second Life"- the UI isn't terribly easy to search from home, but the direct link is better
    • allows for creation of profile with connected actions/ entered info by user

    • member profiles- separate from SL
    • SL favorites can be stored via web
    • groups, events - separate from SL system, but most connect via SLRUL
    • question and answer voting - plus comments
    • actual profile creation

    • offers status: offline (has presence?- not sure if SL or this website)

    • typically based on location
    • seems like a great way for virtual friends to meet in RL

    • not really a SN

    • installs directly to IW or Firefox
    • provides quick links to SL related websites and allows you to search those specifically
    • also provides stats
    • provides suggestions for TP
    • provides teleport on click

Group Management/ Advertising

  • Advertising, update groups alternative http://www.subscribeomatic.com/
    • Your subscribers are safely stored in a database outside SL, so you can have virtually unlimited number of subscribers, and your customer database is safe from SL disasters like script resets, object deletion, etc
    • Message and item history

    • IW driven

SL w/out the 3D part

  • Movable Life http://www.movablelife.net/login.aspx
    • access SL via web browser
    • allows you to chat, IM, search, teleport, manage friends, groups, etc
    • attempted to chat, but no one responded- not sure if it works
    • tried to teleport, but not sure if that worked either
    • in concept this is (per my gut feeling) what we need to go for but more flexible
