Camera Position
You can change the default position of the camera behind you, personally I like looking forward instead of down.
Changing the default camera position requires you access the Debug Settings. Be absolutely sure what you edit in here as it can be hard to find out what you did wrong if you change a parameter and forget its name. Now if you follow the guide here, and only do as mentioned here, you can always come back here to see what you changed.
There are 2 settings you might want to look at.
CameraOffsetRearView this is the position of the camera itself compared to your Avatar.
FocusOffsetRearView this is the point the camera looks at.
X: Is behind/in front. 0 is inside your avatar, - behind and + in front.
Y: Is left/right, 0 is behind Avatar, - to the right, + to the left.
Z: Is height, 0 is at your pelvis, - is lower, + is higher.
These settings update as you change them, so easy to just play around with them.
If you are typing in the field you need to hit Enter ↵ or remove the input focus from the field (fx by clicking in another field) before the changes take effect.
ESC ESC will move your camera to the default position.

Other Camera Settings
Some other camera settings that might ease your Second Life.
Camera minimum zoom distance
By default your camera can not get close to things with zoom, I find this minimum distance way too large both when dressing and building things. It is not possible to adjust the distance[5]. but it can be completely turned off and let you zoom as close as you like, also past the surface and inside objects.
