Fun after-the-fact fact

One thing I just realised today was that 'resident' includes the sound 'rez' in it.

In other words: 'resident' is someone who 'rezzes' objects in-world (or whose avatar gets rezzed in-world, which is also common jargon in SL).

This is purely coincidental, of course, but nevertheless fun — especially 20 years after the designation was created!

Technically speaking, with an American English twist, we ought to be called 'rezzidents' (two 'zz' to make the analogy more obvious), which, of course, is a homophone of 'resident'.
