Members of the Felix Meritis group are encouraged to help the Monastery and Valley of Felix Meritis to flourish. There are many roles people can take on to help achieve this. Names and figures correct as of 8 November 2008

Friar

The friar is the head of the monastery, Man Monnett. Click here to read an interview with Man.

Supporters

All members of the Felix Meritis group become supporters and are able to receive group notices, vote on proposals, set Felix Meritis as their home, and invite friends to join the group. There are currently 173 supporters.

Monks, Sisters and Settlers

Monks, Sisters and Settlers are residents of the Monks' Court, Sisters' Court and Valley respectively. They enjoy the same privileges as supporters, but are also allowed to change music and media settings, send notices, create proposals, and are encouraged to organise events. There are 17 monks, 9 sisters and 4 settlers.

Porters

Porter is literally translated from ‘ostiarius’, a Latin word sometimes anglicized as Ostiary. The porter or doorman, originally was a servant or guard posted at the entrance of a building. At Felix Meritis the function is more illustrative.

The Porters are the administrators of the Monastery and in charge of daily duties, able to control the roles of the group, starting events and sending notices.

Current Porters are:

  • Paddy Carter
  • Fiorino Pera

Precentors

A precentor is one who helps facilitate worship. Its Latin meaning is "the one who sings before" (or alternatively, "first singer"). The Precentors have the special duty to bring people together for prayers. This can be done in their native language and at any time of the day. Prayers can be held in the chapels all over the complex. A Precentor has the ability to send group notices.

Current Precentors are:

  • Angelina Rennaham
  • Bonicolli Goode
  • SirJames Humphreys

Public Relations

A role is available for one person to be in charge of Public Relations at Felix Meritis.

One of the easiest things to get more attention and people in is to do something called PR.

  • Place the central square of the Monastery in your Favourite Picks.
  • Bring friends and show them around.
  • Invite your friends to join the Felix Meritis Group.
  • Find SL newspapers or Blogs on www that could write about the Monastery.
  • With events like the Quest, send an IM to SL reporters.
