Transcript of Benjamin Linden's office hours:

[15:03] Wyn Galbraith: Hi Benjamin.
[15:03] Benjamin Linden: hi folks
[15:04] Hg Beeks: Greetings, Ben. You're looking... Spiky.
[15:04] Scope Cleaver: Greetings
[15:04] Saijanai Kuhn: I can't even see benjamin...
[15:04] Benjamin Linden: hey Scope
[15:04] Benjamin Linden: hi Wyn
[15:04] Squirrel Wood: relog
[15:04] Wyn Galbraith: Cause he's hiding in plainsight ;)
[15:04] Squirrel Wood: Hellos Benjamin ^^
[15:04] Benjamin Linden: I'm right in front of you Saijanai :-)
[15:04] Saijanai Kuhn: INteresting he came into view about the same time as the couch
[15:05] Benjamin Linden: lol
[15:05] Hg Beeks: It's a couch of lesser invisibility.
[15:05] Wyn Galbraith: Joined at the hip so to speak.
[15:05] Oyster Geiger: hi folks
[15:05] Saijanai Kuhn: I guess
[15:05] Benjamin Linden: how's everyone doing?
[15:05] Hg Beeks: So, how's this work? Do we get a talking stick?
[15:06] Benjamin Linden: Hg, Thursday's meetings are generally just open forum
[15:06] Benjamin Linden: so talk away :-)
[15:06] Squirrel Wood: Mesa doin' fine here ^^
[15:06] Hg Beeks: Doin' alright, though we've got a cold passing through our apartment building.
[15:06] Saijanai Kuhn: Benjamin, do y ou recall me mentioning the GUI exchages that the big MMO games have?
[15:06] Wyn Galbraith: Fine. :D
[15:06] Benjamin Linden: yes Saijanai
[15:07] Saijanai Kuhn: Apparently the largest and most complete is for WoW. They have monster-specific GUI's created by guilds for fighting specific monsters even.
[15:07] Saijanai Kuhn: http://www.wowwiki.com/WoW_UI_Customization_Guide
[15:07] Hg Beeks: Not surprised, WoW's UI customization was really powerful and open.
[15:07] Hg Beeks: You could fake quests.
[15:08] Squirrel Wood: I was wondering, are there more changes queued for the voice UI ?
[15:08] Saijanai Kuhn: Just thinking that as SL XUI matures, the WOw and other models should be looked at for ideas
[15:09] Benjamin Linden: we are working on some UI changes for the voice chat UI, Squirrel
[15:09] Benjamin Linden: but the most dramatic ones rolled out already
[15:09] Squirrel Wood: ah ^^
[15:09] Benjamin Linden: was there a specific concern you had?
[15:09] Squirrel Wood: I like the improvements so far ^^
[15:09] Benjamin Linden: good!
[15:09] Hg Beeks: Crud, just got word that I need to take off soon, so I'll have to make this quick.
[15:09] Wyn Galbraith: I think I'm crashing.
[15:10] Saijanai Kuhn: Still lag in local chat. Scary
[15:10] Benjamin Linden: did you have a question Hg?
[15:10] Wyn Galbraith: SL crash logger is transmitting, but I'm still here.
[15:10] Hg Beeks: I was mostly wondering - What happened to Windlight? It was listed on the First Look, it was thre for a while - And now I can't find it on First Look or on the main client.
[15:10] Hg Beeks: *there
[15:11] Saijanai Kuhn: My ISP had an outage today that was so bizaare that it kept crashing SL, and hanging my mac, even using the browser and other standard stuff
[15:11] Squirrel Wood: Ooo! A Torley question methinks XD
[15:11] Wyn Galbraith: Are you on Earthlink, Saijanai?
[15:11] Oyster Geiger: can I ask who would be a good person to ask about group IMs?
[15:11] Saijanai Kuhn: there's my coment, only 5 minutes late
[15:11] Benjamin Linden: Hg, Windlight was taken out of First Look when we released the Voice First Look
[15:12] Benjamin Linden: once Voice rolls out we will put Windlight back into First Look, with new UI and feature improvements
[15:12] Wyn Galbraith: lag test
[15:12] Squirrel Wood: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c82/AesthesiaHatesYou/cake.jpg
[15:12] Saijanai Kuhn: could lag on MY side cause lag for chat messages?
[15:12] Hg Beeks: I gotcha. It was lookin' right pretty, I thought it had gone to the main client.
[15:12] Wyn Galbraith: Shouldn't really add more than one new feature at a time anyway.
[15:13] Benjamin Linden: no unfortunately it wasn't quite ready for prime time
[15:13] Wyn Galbraith: LOL@Squirrel.
[15:13] Benjamin Linden: right Wyn, we wanted to make sure we got Voice right before introducing a bunch of new features
[15:13] Saijanai Kuhn: you need to add the sketched option that was fudged for the starry night movie
[15:13] Hg Beeks: And now I hear a ticking...
[15:13] Wyn Galbraith: It says post-production
[15:13] Squirrel Wood: speaking of voice... I see it is active here, yet it won't let me talk
[15:13] Wyn Galbraith: It's a bomb.
[15:13] JayR Cela: any plans on offering a voice morpf
[15:14] Hg Beeks: Well then, I'll be scooting off to avoid becoming very small bits of bunny.
[15:14] Benjamin Linden: Dingo's movie was amazing, wasn't it?
[15:14] Wyn Galbraith: I think it stopped.
[15:14] Hg Beeks: Need to be scampering elsewhere anyhow...
[15:14] Benjamin Linden: ok Hg, thanks for coming!
[15:14] Saijanai Kuhn: that kind of thing can be added using the video card. Its just a filter
[15:14] Benjamin Linden: there are blogs posts about windlight if you're interested
[15:14] Hg Beeks: That it was, wish the sim was still around to look at it closer.
[15:15] Wyn Galbraith: Benjamin, that has always been my favorite painting. I wish the build was still up.
[15:15] Benjamin Linden: me too!
[15:15] Benjamin Linden: I want to contact him to see if he'd consider putting it somewhere if he had a sim to put it on
[15:15] Oyster Geiger: Benjamin, can you recommend someone to speak to about group IMs?
[15:15] Saijanai Kuhn: If you have a Mac, check out the programmable filters you can create using Quartz Composer
[15:15] Hg Beeks: Y'all have a good'n.
[15:15] Squirrel Wood: LL should have kept a copy of that sim. It's a shining example of creativity!
[15:15] Wyn Galbraith: If I had the money it would have a Starry Night sim all to itself.
[15:16] Benjamin Linden: agreed!
[15:16] Benjamin Linden: Squirrel, I think something's wrong with voice right now, because my active channel icon turned red
[15:16] Saijanai Kuhn: everyone visit youtube an dvote for it. That will put it to the top of the charts for favorite movies
[15:16] Squirrel Wood: hmm
[15:16] Benjamin Linden: Oyster did you have a question about group chat?
[15:17] Squirrel Wood: I see me and Wyn on the active speaker list
[15:17] JayR Cela: Benjamin ? are there any plans for adding a voice morphing technology to SL
[15:17] Oyster Geiger: yes our group VIP channel we've discovered a lot of our members dont get the IMs
[15:17] Oyster Geiger: we send out IMs, then poll folk on line and they dont see it
[15:17] Oyster Geiger: and some are unable to reply
[15:18] Oyster Geiger: any thoughts?
[15:18] Benjamin Linden: have you filed a support request for that Oyster?
[15:18] Benjamin Linden: I know there are intermittent issues with group IMs
[15:18] Oyster Geiger: ah! okay we'll do that
[15:19] Oyster Geiger: was hoping it would be a quick and easy answer
[15:19] Oyster Geiger: thanks
[15:19] Saijanai Kuhn: Have you considered making a position of "artist in residence" for SL and giving him a sim to play withy?
[15:19] Benjamin Linden: that's an interesting idea Saijanai
[15:20] Wyn Galbraith wants to be that artist!
[15:20] Benjamin Linden: I could imagine it getting rather political
[15:20] Saijanai Kuhn: no doubt. I'd vote for it (given it was my idea)
[15:20] Benjamin Linden: there is a lot of chat lag today
[15:20] Benjamin Linden: unless is was community driven
[15:20] Benjamin Linden: I meant to say such a thing (artist in residence) should be community driven
[15:21] Saijanai Kuhn: how about an open museum for SL artists? Competitions and esxhibits for best art, movie, sculpty, etc., winners stay up for a long time?
[15:21] Wyn Galbraith: I can just imagine having a whole sim to create on. *gasps*
[15:21] Oyster Geiger: thanks for your help
[15:21] Oyster Geiger: bye
[15:22] Wyn Galbraith: Autodesk had employee art exibit in the halls at headquarters.
[15:22] Benjamin Linden: there was a sculptie contest, did you see it?
[15:22] Wyn Galbraith: But then if you're a Linden you get 4K to be creative anyway, that is your art exibit.
[15:22] Saijanai Kuhn: before or after Maya got there? I note they took down the referecces to Ryan since it was pre-autodesk
[15:22] Wyn Galbraith: No I missed the contest.
[15:22] Benjamin Linden: I believe the entries are still on display at Luna
[15:23] Saijanai Kuhn: I missed it unfortunately.
[15:23] Saijanai Kuhn: I've never seen out of order local messages before
[15:23] Wyn Galbraith: I've been gone from Autodesk for a while. Was that early Autodesk or later?
[15:24] Saijanai Kuhn: Maya was Alieas-Wavefront purchase. Ryan was an oscar-winning short animation done in Maya by a former AW employee
[15:24] Wyn Galbraith: So before then.
[15:25] Saijanai Kuhn: this out of order stuff is almost as bad as the worse of the pre-Dia Liberacion for grop IM
[15:25] Saijanai Kuhn: and its in local chat
[15:25] Wyn Galbraith thought you were talking about people, Saijanai and thought she lost some memory.
[15:26] Wyn Galbraith: Are we the only ones here?
[15:26] Benjamin Linden: it's a very light crowd today
[15:26] Wyn Galbraith: Oh it was quiet for so long I thought maybe I was frozen again.
[15:26] Benjamin Linden: lol
[15:26] Saijanai Kuhn: I still haven't seen messages I posted 5 minutes ago, but I did see answers to them
[15:26] JayR Cela: yes is this a one topic meeting two times a week during your office hours ?
[15:26] Wyn Galbraith sits and talks to herself at moments like that then realizes no one else is talking and she can't move.
[15:27] Benjamin Linden: JayR, on Tuesdays we go through bugs in our public issue tracker.
[15:27] Benjamin Linden: Thursdays are open discussion
[15:27] Benjamin Linden: generally about user interface/usability issues
[15:27] Saijanai Kuhn: its been non-stop messages on my side, but I'm missing a couple I've sent
[15:27] JayR Cela: ok good / open question on voice / is
[15:28] JayR Cela: will there be a voice morphing option available
[15:28] JayR Cela: any plans on that ??
[15:28] Benjamin Linden: oh sorry, I've seen you ask that a couple times
[15:28] Wyn Galbraith: There's that ticking again.
[15:28] Benjamin Linden: we do not plan to offer voice morphing as part of v1
[15:29] Benjamin Linden: but there are third-party tools you can use for voice morphing
[15:29] Wyn Galbraith: Oh there's a watch on your roof.
[15:29] Saijanai Kuhn notes that a good client plug-in strategy would allow for lots of innovation that wasn't directly blessed by LL
[15:29] Wyn Galbraith never noticed that before.
[15:30] Squirrel Wood: MorphVOX does an amazing job at voice distortion ^^
[15:30] Benjamin Linden: there's a watch?
[15:30] JayR Cela: Ok Benjamin / that answers my question on voice V1 / how about V2 ??
[15:30] Benjamin Linden: where?
[15:30] Wyn Galbraith: Now that's an interesting idea. Yes Benjamin, there was and it had your name on it. *points to the roof above her head."
[15:31] Wyn Galbraith: You're joshing me right?
[15:31] Benjamin Linden: JayR, I'm not sure if we will ever offer voice morphing inside the client. Since it's fairly easy to do with third-party tools we may never do it.
[15:31] Benjamin Linden: is it gone?
[15:31] Saijanai Kuhn: votes for 3rd party plugin specs for editors, voice morphing and so on
[15:31] JayR Cela: that answers my question Benjamin / thank you :_)
[15:31] Wyn Galbraith: SecondLife where hallucination are real.
[15:32] Wyn Galbraith: It's gone now.
[15:32] Saijanai Kuhn: isn't there a special schizophrenia attachment?
[15:32] Benjamin Linden: yes, Saijanai, we do want to create a third-party plug-in architecture
[15:32] Benjamin Linden: thanks for coming JayR!
[15:32] JayR Cela: bye-byee all :_)
[15:33] Squirrel Wood: Mmm. Corn Cobs are Yummeh 11
[15:33] Squirrel Wood: ^^
[15:33] Wyn Galbraith: Wow, really light day.
[15:33] Squirrel Wood: Definitely a quiet day. yes :)
[15:33] Wyn Galbraith: Been in Daniel's field Squirrel?
[15:33] Saijanai Kuhn: just as well. The out of order messages are bizaare given this few people here
[15:34] Benjamin Linden: maybe there are wider grid issues and that's why so few are here
[15:34] Wyn Galbraith: I had that happen to me yesterday, to day it's getting disconnected.
[15:34] Benjamin Linden: hmm no there's almost 44k online
[15:34] Wyn Galbraith: My mini-map turns red and I know I'm not connected anymore.
[15:34] Squirrel Wood: I haven't really noticed any oddities today. And usually the Furnation sims do get hit badly with such things ^^
[15:35] Wyn Galbraith: Here comes Laetizia!
[15:35] Squirrel Wood: Oh yes!
[15:35] Wyn Galbraith: Incoming!
[15:35] Saijanai Kuhn: Like I said my ISP crashed SL and hung my system. Some diagnostics registered me as online and some didnt. The cable (same company) had some channels running and some not.
[15:35] Laetizia Coronet: sheesh, I need an alt ;)
[15:35] Saijanai Kuhn: The phone had an echo (stll same company)
[15:35] Squirrel Wood: Add some better visual clues when one gets disconnected
[15:35] Benjamin Linden: hi Laetizia!
[15:35] Laetizia Coronet: hi everyone
[15:35] Squirrel Wood: like, flash the screen in rainbow colors or something ^^
[15:35] Wyn Galbraith: You're not on Earthlink DSL in the bay area are you Saijanai? Cause that sounds like what happened to me earlier.
[15:36] Saijanai Kuhn: maybe the old school QE "LD" floating above the head? ;-)
[15:36] Saijanai Kuhn: EQ*
[15:36] Laetizia Coronet: a dreen diamond floating above your head is also nice ;)
[15:36] Laetizia Coronet: *green
[15:36] Wyn Galbraith: Green is always nice.
[15:36] Laetizia Coronet: I am surprised noone wals around with a fake Sims diamond ;)
[15:37] Benjamin Linden: let's play a little game. if you could add one feature or fix one thing about the SL UI, what would it be?
[15:37] Wyn Galbraith: There's crystals. You see the diamonds on the avatars.
[15:37] Benjamin Linden: hi there Dzonatas
[15:37] Dzonatas Sol: Heya!
[15:37] Benjamin Linden: nice boots!
[15:37] Wyn Galbraith: The area the windows take up.
[15:37] Laetizia Coronet: I would make it easier on lighter graphics cards
[15:37] Wyn Galbraith: Yes Laetizia's too.
[15:37] Benjamin Linden: what do you mean by that Wyn?
[15:37] Wyn Galbraith wants it all.
[15:38] Benjamin Linden: Laetizia, do you mean you'd like SL to run better on low-end graphics cards?
[15:38] Wyn Galbraith: I gave you a screenshot of my screen when I'm in SL and active. With search, inventory, and chat there's hardly any space left to see SL.
[15:38] Laetizia Coronet: yes Ben exactly, I am on a one yr old laptop
[15:38] Dzonatas Sol: I'd separate the UI/keyboard entry from the main window. The majority of my typing mistakes comes from keyboard slowing
[15:38] Benjamin Linden: yes Wyn, I remember :-)
[15:38] Saijanai Kuhn: SOme way to use the unused power of the clients. P2P for somethings?
[15:39] Wyn Galbraith is on one too with Intel built in.
[15:39] Benjamin Linden: what do you mean by "keyboard slowing" Dzonatas?
[15:39] Wyn Galbraith: With the new communications it seems worst.
[15:39] Laetizia Coronet: chat lag?
[15:39] Squirrel Wood: I find windows often get into the way so I think it would be funny and useful to have them "dodge" the mouse when you press a defined key
[15:39] Squirrel Wood: that's what I would add to the UI ^^
[15:39] Wyn Galbraith: Zero explained chat lag once.
[15:39] Dzonatas Sol: The rate you can type gets slowed by the FPS and other factors
[15:39] Saijanai Kuhn: I get that on the Mac with lots of video lag. Typing t.a.k.e.s. forever
[15:39] Squirrel Wood: Oh, and have the windows snap back into place as well :)
[15:40] Laetizia Coronet: right squirrel, a key to grey out the windows and make you move actively again?
[15:40] Dzonatas Sol: If you are like me, you don't type "normal" and it really messes me up.
[15:40] Wyn Galbraith forgot what he said about it now. "Something to do with retries or something. Might be in his logs."
[15:40] Saijanai Kuhn: Cox Cable, Sothern Arizona
[15:40] Laetizia Coronet: Dzonatas, what do you mean?
[15:40] Wyn Galbraith: Ah not Earthlink, maybe it's router related.
[15:40] Wyn Galbraith says to Saijanai's delayed response.
[15:40] Dzonatas Sol: I have to feel what I type, and the UI causes me to actually look at more of what I type. I can't feel it.
[15:41] Saijanai Kuhn: which I still haven't seen
[15:41] Squirrel Wood: No. hold down the key, then move your mouse around and the windows on screen will "move out of the way" of the mouse pointer so you can click things below the windows without having to move the camera. and the windows will automagically snap back in place when the mouse moves away or you let go of the key
[15:41] Wyn Galbraith touch types too, "So I know what you mean, Dzonatas."
[15:41] Laetizia Coronet: ah right
[15:41] Laetizia Coronet: ah right Squirrel, not too clear on Dzonatas - I don't tyype bindly
[15:41] Laetizia Coronet: *blindly
[15:42] Benjamin Linden: interesting idea, Squirrel
[15:42] Laetizia Coronet: I type typos it seems ;)
[15:42] Wyn Galbraith: Benjamin, are you dropping things on the roof?
[15:42] Benjamin Linden: Laetizia is this the first time you've been to my office hours?
[15:42] Benjamin Linden: no Wyn, what's happening?
[15:42] Laetizia Coronet: some balloon up above
[15:42] Wyn Galbraith ponders how things drop on keywords it seems.
[15:42] Saijanai Kuhn loves when he misses the home keys and types really strange gibberish for an entire line
[15:43] Laetizia Coronet: Benjamin, no I have been before
[15:43] Benjamin Linden: oh haha I know what's happening
[15:43] Wyn Galbraith: You said nice boots and a giant boot dropped.
[15:43] Benjamin Linden: it's my wand!
[15:43] Benjamin Linden: giant eagle
[15:43] giant eagle whispers: Say 'Help' for info on the available commads
[15:43] Wyn Galbraith: You said nice idea and a light bulb dropped and came on.
[15:43] Laetizia Coronet: lol
[15:43] Wyn Galbraith: Now a giant eagle.
[15:43] Wyn Galbraith: There's that watch again.
[15:43] Dzonatas Sol: I had a request to separate the main view from the rest of the UI windows on dual monitors. That was on the forums
[15:43] Benjamin Linden: watch this
[15:43] Laetizia Coronet: love the build, by the way
[15:43] Benjamin Linden: fireballs
[15:43] Wyn Galbraith: Oh mhy gosh.
[15:43] Dzonatas Sol: *had being was asked
[15:43] Wyn Galbraith: Eek droping people now too.
[15:43] Benjamin Linden: I hope this doesn't crash the sim :-)
[15:44] Laetizia Coronet: damn are we under attack? WHeres my battlecopter ;)
[15:44] Wyn Galbraith: And cars!
[15:44] Benjamin Linden: hmm maybe I should put this away
[15:44] Wyn Galbraith: Oh my!
[15:44] Saijanai Kuhn: one thing that would be nice is a functional optino for larger text for us old folks with bad eyes
[15:44] Wyn Galbraith thought she was going crazy.
[15:44] Benjamin Linden: wand off
[15:44] Starax's Magic Wand - V2.26+: Okay, I'm off
[15:44] Saijanai Kuhn: in the first look viewer it doesn't work at all, and its too small even in the regular viewer
[15:44] Wyn Galbraith has been hit!
[15:44] Benjamin Linden: that's Starax's wand for anyone who's not familar
[15:44] Roof Doors: Xazi Boa is at the door.
[15:45] Roof Doors: Xazi Boa is at the door.
[15:45] Roof Doors: Xazi Boa is at the door.
[15:45] Laetizia Coronet: ah, Starax... the name alone...
[15:45] Benjamin Linden: it has about a bazillion commands
[15:45] Laetizia Coronet: but Benjamin why did you ask about me visiting here?
[15:45] Wyn Galbraith: Every time you say a keyword it drops on ya?
[15:45] Squirrel Wood: I have UI size generally set to 0.9 because I prefer it to take up the least amount of space possible where text is still readable
[15:45] Benjamin Linden: thanks for the compliment Laetizia
[15:45] Benjamin Linden: oh I was just curious if you'd been by before, I didn't recognze your name
[15:46] Laetizia Coronet: well I was, but probably with my usual Caucasian avi :)
[15:46] Wyn Galbraith: Laetizia is one of the usual suspects.
[15:46] Laetizia Coronet: much like Wyn, one of the "fangirlz" to quote Prok Neva
[15:46] Benjamin Linden: your name is hard to type, so I thought I would've recognized it
[15:46] Laetizia Coronet: lol ok... I can't change it
[15:46] Benjamin Linden: are you a builder too Laetizia?
[15:46] Wyn Galbraith nods, "That's right, we have gotten 'named' by Prokofy."
[15:47] Laetizia Coronet: no I sell clothes, mainly. I hobby in building and especially texturing
[15:47] Benjamin Linden: waht does one have to do to be a fanboy/girl? attend a lot of office hours?
[15:47] Wyn Galbraith: I guess that's some sort of honor? To rise in ranks so quickly to be on Prokofy's hit list.
[15:47] Dzonatas Sol: I only pick a few office hours to attend
[15:47] Laetizia Coronet: Benjamin, ask Prokofy Neva. I guess she means those who have no criticism. That would not be me but ok
[15:48] Wyn Galbraith: You're suppose to ask questions, Benjamin. If you don't then Prokofy says you're just a hanger on, a fan, of Lindens.
[15:48] Wyn Galbraith came to meetings to learn and so most times has no questions.
[15:48] Laetizia Coronet: but then Prok hates SL, he should move on
[15:48] Benjamin Linden: I see. well for what it's worth, I've gotten tons of useful feedback from you gusy
[15:48] Benjamin Linden: *guys
[15:48] Squirrel Wood: fanboiz/girlz is those who come to office hours and just listen in or have no particularly "prokofy proof" question
[15:48] Squirrel Wood: well... prokofy approved that i
[15:48] Squirrel Wood: s
[15:48] Wyn Galbraith kisses Benjamin's feet and gives offerings.
[15:48] Laetizia Coronet: lol Squirrel, he mentions you on his blog too
[15:49] Squirrel Wood: I don't waste my time reading the blog of an insane person :p
[15:49] Wyn Galbraith: It's rather comical. Prokofy thinks he's saving SL from us. Including you Laetizia I saw his comment to your comment on his blog.
[15:49] Wyn Galbraith: My mommy always said, know your enemy, that's why I read them.
[15:50] Laetizia Coronet: anyway SL has since November evolved from a fairly good experience to a slow running one, even with all options off. ANd this laptop is not from the 7-11 either
[15:50] Wyn Galbraith: Also trying to get a clue how to turn around the hatefest of his.
[15:50] Laetizia Coronet: and that is a bit of a shame
[15:50] Dzonatas Sol: I'm headed back to building. Thank you for your time Benjamin. Take care everyone.
[15:50] Wyn Galbraith: WalMart brand?
[15:50] Saijanai Kuhn: ?me needs to make a SL Otaku T-shirt
[15:50] Benjamin Linden: ok Dzonatas, thanks for stopping by!
[15:50] Wyn Galbraith: Bye Dzonatas!
[15:50] Laetizia Coronet: lol HP Pavillion wide screen
[15:50] Saijanai Kuhn: laters
[15:51] Wyn Galbraith wants a translate this tshirt but doesn't want to be offensive. "The only symbol I think of for it is offensive to some."
[15:51] Benjamin Linden: there is work underway to help people understand the hardware requirements and tweak the settings to perform better
[15:51] Laetizia Coronet: that's Pavilion, one l, for the Googlers
[15:51] Squirrel Wood: Prokofy has the habit of turning any linden hours into prokofy hours by firing question after question after question without giving other people the chance to get their questions in or discuss things
[15:51] Wyn Galbraith: My desktop is an HP Pavillion with the Intel chipset, runs worst than the laptop.
[15:51] Wyn Galbraith: Chatspammer.
[15:52] Laetizia Coronet: yes but the requirements change too fast I think, for most to keep up
[15:52] Saijanai Kuhn: otaku? Don't know the literal meaning, but the context is fanboyz (and girls)
[15:52] Wyn Galbraith: Prokofy is his own form of Griefer.
[15:52] Laetizia Coronet: I have AMD Turion 64 thank god
[15:52] Wyn Galbraith: You can test that stuff on me, Benjamin.
[15:52] Laetizia Coronet: what I mean is, you can't be cutting edge AND attract huge crowds, people are going to fall by the wayside
[15:53] Laetizia Coronet: there must be a middle ground
[15:53] Saijanai Kuhn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otaku
[15:53] Wyn Galbraith: This is a Dual Core 2 but the Intel chipset for graphics cause me to do a Bluescreen of Death STOP, thread hung in display driver.
[15:53] Benjamin Linden: it's definitely a challenge supporting such a wide array of hardware
[15:53] Laetizia Coronet: I only know okaki - those nice Japanese snacks ;)
[15:53] Benjamin Linden: are people using voice more now?
[15:53] Wyn Galbraith notes this is pretty common in most off the shelve hardware.
[15:53] Wyn Galbraith: *shelf
[15:54] Squirrel Wood: Well, I got me a voice morphing program so I do use it
[15:54] Laetizia Coronet: not me but yes, some areas are deceptively devoid of typing sounds
[15:54] Wyn Galbraith: When we bought this I wasn't into SL, now that I am I can't change the chips in the laptop. So I make due.
[15:54] Benjamin Linden: and you think that's because people are talking, Laetizia?
[15:54] Laetizia Coronet: yes
[15:54] Saijanai Kuhn: ?? means someone else's house (in a polite sense) or also "you" (in a polite sense).
[15:55] Laetizia Coronet: in an area like Waterhead there is always a lot going on. Not anymore, at least not legible
[15:55] Wyn Galbraith: So if you need systems to test lowend settings on, I'm yours.
[15:55] Saijanai Kuhn: its a reference to passionate obsessive in modern Japanese culture. A fanboy/girl
[15:55] Benjamin Linden: I'm interested to see how Voice will impact the SL community
[15:55] Laetizia Coronet: me too, but I am not too positive
[15:55] Saijanai Kuhn: cyber zex or otherwise?
[15:55] Wyn Galbraith: I hear people using it more and more.
[15:56] Laetizia Coronet: I can see a lot more abuse and no way to report it
[15:56] Wyn Galbraith: I get background conversations sometimes, if I'm close enough.
[15:56] Laetizia Coronet: I can see very difficult meetings and the end of chatlogs
[15:56] Benjamin Linden: griefing with voice is definitely a concern
[15:56] Wyn Galbraith: So now not only have IMs going, but also got spoken converstations too.
[15:56] Wyn Galbraith: There's always the mute button on the computer.
[15:56] Squirrel Wood: voice griefing? You can mute that person easily ^^
[15:56] Benjamin Linden: I've decided not to use voice during my office hours. it's simply too difficult to keep up with multiple conversations
[15:57] Laetizia Coronet: obviously in this avatar I fear a little more of it
[15:57] Wyn Galbraith nods, "There was some of that at Zeros this morning."
[15:57] Squirrel Wood: Apparently voice is active here but refuses to work
[15:57] Laetizia Coronet: but I can give *very* good replies
[15:57] Benjamin Linden: somw of what, Wyn?
[15:57] Laetizia Coronet: yes, Zero is black, you don't mean...?
[15:58] Wyn Galbraith: Once I made an unattractive character on a MU* so I won't get hit on. They hit on her anyway. So it doesn't matter. Some of the cross talk with voice over the top of the typed conversation.
[15:58] Benjamin Linden: ah right
[15:58] Wyn Galbraith: Avatars are Avatars no matter what color they are.
[15:58] Laetizia Coronet: yes of course, but not for everyone
[15:59] Wyn Galbraith: Then they have the problem not us.
[15:59] Laetizia Coronet: I was pushed off of Waterhead almost, in a concerted effort, must be planned in voice
[15:59] Benjamin Linden: well folks we're just about out of time
[15:59] Wyn Galbraith hrms.
[15:59] Squirrel Wood: Oh My
[15:59] Laetizia Coronet: but then I am a white man in RL - it doesn't really touch me
[16:00] Wyn Galbraith: Always a pleasure to have a nice chat.
[16:00] Benjamin Linden: I'll try to bring some more structured topics for us to discuss next time. Things have been a little busy the past couple weeks...
[16:00] Benjamin Linden: but I appreciate you stopping by, as always
[16:00] Wyn Galbraith understands.
[16:00] Saijanai Kuhn: thanks for having us
[16:00] Squirrel Wood: Yep
[16:00] Laetizia Coronet: thanks for your time, as always
[16:00] Benjamin Linden: hope you enjoyed the fireballs :-)
[16:00] Laetizia Coronet: at least you show up :/
[16:00] Squirrel Wood: Thanks for listening to your ramblings and complaints ;)
[16:00] Saijanai Kuhn: is the beta grid open yet?
[16:00] Wyn Galbraith: Got some of the best suspects here at the moment.
[16:01] Wyn Galbraith: Na it was fun, Benjamin, except trying to make me think I'm crazy.
[16:01] Squirrel Wood: your? our ^^
[16:01] Saijanai Kuhn: trying?
[16:01] Benjamin Linden: haha
[16:01] Wyn Galbraith: LOL
[16:01] Benjamin Linden: ok, see ya!
