6 AM

Torley Linden: Heyhey everyone!
Hirokii Hyun: Sup, Torley.
Amon26 Yellowjacket: hio torley ^^
Torley Linden: Rezzing in!
Chase Marellan: Good morning, Torley!
DJ Jenns: hola torley!
Vivienne Graves: Morning, Torley
Amon26 Yellowjacket: on my way to bed, so i have to say hi/bye torley ^,^
Torley Linden: Good morning, or whatever time of day it is where you are!
DJ Jenns: oh my god lol
Torley Linden: Awww okay hi/bye Amon26!
Torley Linden: Have a good sleep!
Amon26 Yellowjacket: toodles! ^,^ thx
DJ Jenns: brings a new meaning to melonhead
Simon Kline: hehe 11pm in Australia
Torley Linden: So, yeah, this latest avatar of mine, was derived from a Pokemon/watermelon interest, to say the least.
Torley Linden: It's so cool how we can talk around time zones.
DJ Jenns: err
DJ Jenns: lol
Lyndsey Forager: hey torley
Hirokii Hyun: I noticed. Why would you take a /b/tard meme anyway, I thought LL wasn't too 4chan friendly?
Torley Linden: Until we get RL teleporting there's not an easier way to be at the same time.
Hirokii Hyun: At least with the patriotic nigra business.
Chase Marellan: Definitely. Makes the world a lot smaller.
Lyndsey Forager: loving the av today torley
Beta Bates: As long as I don't have to beta test RL teleportation. :P
Kiddoh Korobase: Script run-time error
Kiddoh Korobase: Stack-Heap Collision
Chase Marellan: hehehehe....
Torley Linden: Hirokii: Because it's originally a Pokemon — among my faves, actually. Slowpoke is another. I prefer Pichu over Pikachu. :)
Simon Kline: heh yes!! your office hours are perfect for aussies torley you're one later in the day is like 7am on our saturday
DJ Jenns: its like a melon version of pac-man
DJ Jenns: lol
DJ Jenns: pfft slowpoke! Squitle!!!
DJ Jenns: squirtle even :p
Torley Linden: Squirtle's okay too!
DJ Jenns: hhehe
Torley Linden: I haven't kept up with the latest Pokemon, now they have all sorts of crazy themed editions... Pearl?! What in blazes!?
Hirokii Hyun: Anyway, I don't have a lot of time, so if anyone else doesn't mind, can I get three quick questions out of the way? They're general interest anyhow.
Torley Linden: Oh please ask!
Daedalus Young: hi
Hirokii Hyun: Alright, first off.
Hirokii Hyun: Is Voice coming to the main client, and if so, When?
Hirokii Hyun: I think it has a lot of potential as a performance tool to musicians, actors, stuff like that.
Torley Linden: Great question -- Voice Team knows better than I but I hope that rollout, tentatively speaking, is within a month.
Vivienne Graves: THere are already audio streams for that
Nova Halderman: hi Torley! Nice to meet you
Hirokii Hyun: Audio streams are a hassle to work with.
Hirokii Hyun: I know this for a fact.
Kiddoh Korobase: oh lawd, Wai you do this Brown?
Torley Linden: Could be sooner, or later, depending on other work going on. I like Voice's spatialization... fun to watch someone with a guitar play it and walk around.
Vivienne Graves: but they're also much higher quality than voice for something like a musical performance
Hirokii Hyun: I just think it's already smooth enough to integrate into main.
Hirokii Hyun: Voice is pretty okay for musicial performances as is.
Hirokii Hyun: And it enables us to do things like acting.
Hirokii Hyun: I conducted a "play" the other day with a few friends using it.
Hirokii Hyun: It was great fun.
Kamael Xevious: Only if you lay out the fundage for the equipment, Viv... not really an option for a lot of people.
Hirokii Hyun: Yeah
Torley Linden: *nod* We seem to have fixed most of the crashes and UI tweaks... there are some bugs left to resolve before we think it's good to go.
Lyndsey Forager: torley - on the new wageriung policy - does it affect sploderballs and raffle balls? - do you know?
Torley Linden: Acting is a great point.
Torley Linden: I think about stand-up comedy.
Hirokii Hyun: Though, one thing Voice does need is a way to have people with it off see that people are talking with voice.
Angsty Rossini: please keep the spolders!!
Hirokii Hyun: I have a lot of people come into my club and we're all just quiet, they leave because they think we're all idling.
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: Ah! I don't know that for sure, that's one of those cases where I'd consult legal advice depending on your jurisdiction.
Lyndsey Forager: lol, i do like a sploder - i wond rather a lot of L$ on them
Vivienne Graves: Or perhaps for people with voice to see that those who don't have it can't hear them
DJ Jenns: lolol
Torley Linden: "Sploder" is such a funny word too.
Hirokii Hyun: My next question is. What's the deal with Windlight? Do we have a basic ETA on when it'll at least hit First look again?
Kamael Xevious: Torley, I'm sorry to say this, but that's a cop out. The issue isn't legal. It's whether our accounts will be closed for a rules violation.
DJ Jenns: o_0
Lyndsey Forager: last week over L$2000 - i was rather impressed - thats a lot of hair and shoes
Kamael Xevious: NOT whether it's legal in Ohio or Illinois or wherever we are. We need an answer on a LINDEN RULE, not the law.
Torley Linden: Hirokii: OK, that one I do know more about because I'm WindLight Product Manager. So, that one, hopefully within a month it will be re-released as First Look: WindLight.
Chase Marellan: Unfortunately, I'm going to have to agree with Kamael there.
Nova Halderman: haha Lyndsey
Torley Linden: This is somewhat dependent on the timing of other things like Voice, because two First Looks may be too confusing.
Kamael Xevious: If you can't answer it, fine, but then refer us to someone who can.
Hirokii Hyun: Yeah, I know you don't know everything, but I figure a little linden insight is better than none.
Bart Heart: Hey Mystik
Torley Linden: Kamael and Chase: Ah, sorry, I don't know. I do know a lot of those questions are being checked out by our Legal & Governance Team, so perhaps if we can provide more clarification, we'll post more on the blog soon. :)
Lyndsey Forager: its a worrying thing - you dont want to be deleted for playing a game
Guney Shilova: Hey!!
Guney Shilova: How are you?
Igel Hawks: Hi
Chase Marellan: Fair enough! :)
Kamael Xevious: Thanks, Torley... that does help.
Hirokii Hyun: Since I opened a club with Samus recently. I noticed a really annoying issue with SL's building framework and it irked me as a game modder who has done level building in other engines.
Torley Linden: Hirokii: And currently I'm helping debug WindLight, I definitely would like to see it out there again...
Hirokii Hyun: Basically, I'm wondering why LL doesn't allow "Megaprims" by default?
Torley Linden: some people say I'm torturing them with my screenshots.
Torley Linden: It's not my intention. :)
DJ Jenns: I cant see that happening right now Lyndsey - im sure this is just a shot across the bow as it were - a warning that this might be an area of contention
Beta Bates laughs
Torley Linden: Aka http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/
Beta Bates: I miss windlight soo much.
Hirokii Hyun: I had to use a bunch of those old bugged megaprims to help save on our prim limits. I can understand the limit for keeping out prims beyond 70x70
Beta Bates pouts.
Guney Shilova: How can i get teleported to NYC? LOL
Torley Linden: As for "megaprims", this is mostly due to them having been used to grief other people.
Lyndsey Forager: he he- good, i can spend my winning guilt free
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Hirokii Hyun: But 20x20 or 40x40 are incredibly useful.
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
Vivienne Graves: LL don't allow megaprims on the mainland at all, technically, as far as I know
Torley Linden: For example, on the mainland, you can rez a very big megaprim and blot out your neighbors, and cause them much woe. :\
Vivienne Graves: thyey cause server lag
Mystik Boucher: Torley, you guys need a union -- maybe fight for private islands.
DJ Jenns: sounds like fun torley!
DJ Jenns: lol
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Mystik Boucher: This place is lagged.
Mystik Boucher: Phew.
Torley Linden: There are additionally rendering complications when they're so large, necessitating BIG draw distance.
Hirokii Hyun: They have a very practical purpose. I mean, Again, I can understand not super huge ones.
Hirokii Hyun: But 20x20 seems reasonable.
Torley Linden: We've discussed allowing megaprims on private estates. That is dependent on Havok-4 work too, to some extent...
Guney Shilova: OMG! Supermelon! LOL
Hirokii Hyun: It's just a real pain in the ass to build anything big without them.
Torley Linden: we should also have a better way to clear obstructing junk encroaching on your parcel, whether it's a megaprim or not.
Vivienne Graves: THere's also the issue that their creation was via an explot and not sanctioned by LL
Mystik Boucher: Bart, I read Torley's profile, she's not our go-to for this situation. We'll need to find someone who deals in that area.
Mystik Boucher: You know of anyone else Bart so I can profile them?
Torley Linden: Thanks for reading my profile. :)
Lyndsey Forager: Torley - loved your tips and tricks with the client menu - very usfull
DJ Jenns: so what comes after windlight then torley
Torley Linden: Vivienne: Yes, it was a rather "creative" advent...
DJ Jenns: any sneak peeks ?
Igel Hawks: I like it Torley LOL
Hirokii Hyun: I don't really see a problem with it if it's not being used maliciously. If it's being used for creativity's sake. I think LL has always condoned creative activity.
Kiddoh Korobase: If I were to read everyone's profile... Would I be a bad enough d00d to save the president?
Torley Linden: DJ Jenns: More phases of WindLight. The new WindLight viewer will give ya more than a pretty sky... you also get GLOW as a build parameter. Great for neon signs and lightsabers etc.
Hirokii Hyun: Just like anything else, a tool can be used for evil as well as good.
Brown Boa: I fear not
Bart Heart: None that are online
Torley Linden: There's been considerable work done on the ripple water and shiny -- which looks shinier than ever before.
Mystik Boucher: :(
Torley Linden: Hirokii: Yup, and in SL... there are many tools which can be used in so many ways.
DJ Jenns: will that be a similar effect to the renderglow option ?
Hirokii Hyun: Another issue I have with the build system. Are we ever going to get any kind of Texture locking to world?
Daedalus Young: refelctive water looks good
Torley Linden: DJ Jenns: Yes, it's the successor of RenderGlow, controllable per-texture-face.
Torley Linden: You can set the intensity from 0.0-1.0.
Hirokii Hyun: Dealing with texture alignment was critical for our club, and it's incredibly hard to pull off with all the various prim sizes
Hirokii Hyun: Since textures are affected greatly by prim size.
Torley Linden: So it doesn't light ALL light sources within a scene, but does so selectively.
DJ Jenns: w
Torley Linden: And it's independent of Full Bright and local lighting.
Mystik Boucher: Torley, this is totally off subject but I've always been curious.. What type of computer setup do you get to work with at Linden Research?
DJ Jenns: but you could combine the two ?
DJ Jenns: glow and local lighting
Vivienne Graves: Well, you know, you probably know how to use Photoshop; if you do, yuou can create versions of your textures that will seamlessly work on differing prim sizes, I should think
Kiddoh Korobase: lol what about fabric prims, why do we not have them? Flew prims just don't do justice.
Orzga Aabye: i just noticed that certain floors do reflections
Torley Linden: Mystik: At Linden Lab, there are many diverse computers, including various Quality Assurance rigs. My own is an Opteron 170 with NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT. Mid-range.
Vivienne Graves: without needing LL to hold your hand for tyyou
Orzga Aabye: i was amazed
Kiddoh Korobase: flex*
Hirokii Hyun: Vivienne: For something that's in nearly EVERY game engine, it seems more like a basic that should've been included from the start.
Bart Heart: Im sure if you ask Torley she can point you in the right direction
Torley Linden: Kiddoh: Fabric prims? Elaborate please?
Hirokii Hyun: That costs MORE money to do, etc.
Torley Linden: DJ Jenns: Yes, you can combine glow and local lighting. It's awesome.
Hirokii Hyun: I don't want to have to upload 4 different textures of the same texture
Kiddoh Korobase: Well something that can colide but is flexable
Torley Linden: I may think of upgrading to a quad-core later this year or the next, we'll see. It's pretty lucrative for multitasking and prices have just dropped on Intel's Q6600 a lot.
Bart Heart: I would say Zee Linden since he is incharge of fraud, he may be at Metas Meeting at 10am
Daedalus Young: just build smart, se math to calculate your prim sizes, texture sizes and offsets
Kiddoh Korobase: Like brown's hat, it goes through him. But a fabric like prim would uh... not go through him... ya know?
Hirokii Hyun: Daedalus: That's not building smart, that's building impractically. You shouldn't have to do that.
Hirokii Hyun: It's a big hassle.
Torley Linden: I wish we could free-drag texture offsets instead of putting in numbers; that's been a wish for me for awhile.
DJ Jenns: is LL planning to release a 64bit version of the client ?
Mystik Boucher: Torley: Sorry to hear that. Btw, great tutorials on youtube, I watched a view when I was fresh out the litter box. You should start like a site called "www.sl-noobtube.com". I think you'd be the next Gates hon.
Hirokii Hyun: Coming from someone whose done level design and level building, it's just completley impractical.
Aimee Congrejo: Torley, any idea when SL will start taking advantage of multicores? Cuz it only sits on one core on my Mac Pro ^^
Torley Linden: Kiddoh: I suspect what you're talking about would be very cool but require more computer power....
Daedalus Young: yes, but there's no real alternative now
Orzga Aabye: computers should do the math.
Kiddoh Korobase: Awe ;<
Daedalus Young: there are some aligning scripts, but that's hassle too
Hirokii Hyun: Shooting down arguements to /get/ them in for the sake of "There's no real alternative right now" will never get anything changed :)
Hirokii Hyun: I know there's workarounds, but what I'm asking is if there will ever be a time where they aren't nessicary.
Torley Linden: Aimee: Great question. SL is already multithreaded for some things like part of the texture pipeline, I think (Steve would know more) via Client menu > Rendering > Run Multiple Threads.
Torley Linden: Full multi-core compatibility is likely still a ways away, I don't know a dedicated project for it but we have done work on making Second Life more cooperative with other programs on your OS.
Torley Linden: For example, if SL is in the background, it'll use considerably less CPU.
Hirokii Hyun: Another thing, are we ever going to get architexture based shadows? I'm not talking realtime shadows. Just something updated now and then for architexture so I can do proper lighting in a club or large setting. Having lighting clip through walls makes it very hard to light tight crampt areas with indoor and outdoor areas.
Warren Flanagan: I herd u liek mudkips?
Torley Linden: Mystik: Hehe thanks re: video tutorials!
Hirokii Hyun: Something we can generate manually or something.
Hirokii Hyun: Dynamically generated shadowmaps, I'd guess you call them.
Torley Linden: Hirokii: Great question, that's one you should definitely ask Qarl Linden about at his Office Hours.
Torley Linden: He's an expert in that area... and he's been working on similar research.
Hirokii Hyun: Good to hear that someone has been
Aimee Congrejo: Yah Torley, I've got that turned on, but even with that turned on it's only using like 13% of each CPU of my Mac Pro 8-core 3 GHz...I was in Samurai Island last nite getting less than 1 FPS even tho sim FPS was 45 cuz there were so many avies to render.
Torley Linden: Qarl has a great appreciation for aesthetic beauty.
Torley Linden: Aimee: Oh geez it sounds like you have such a powerful system! Yeah, that's definitely an area where we could improve how SL uses your available resources.
Hirokii Hyun: I'd love to see that. Seeing as how I don't like depending on outdoor lighting for my indoor enviroments.
Hirokii Hyun: It really botches up a good interior enviroment D:
Brown Boa: hmm imlagging up here
Hirokii Hyun: Also, are we ever getting support for some kind of shader tech in second life? Like uploading our own bumpmaps for textures or proper normal mapping?
DJ Jenns: no lag here
Vivienne Graves: you don't have to depend on outdoor lighting for indoor environments; you can use lighting indoors.
Hirokii Hyun: Maybe specular mapping / cubemap supports for proper shiny effects?
Brown Boa: must be my graphics
JayR Cela: hello all :_)
Aimee Congrejo: Brown...love the lag, embrace the lag, toss the lag monster a cookie ^^
Hirokii Hyun: Cubemaps are cheap.
Torley Linden: If things go as planned, WindLight will encompass multiple phases... of various graphical enhancements. Obviously we start with the sky because that's such a big target.
Warren Flanagan: uploading our own bumpmaps would be awesome
Beta Bates: Yah. No lag here either. Just a *lot9* of poly.
Vivienne Graves: THere are various ways to script physical lights, etc.
Hirokii Hyun: Cubemaps are cheap rendering speaking, of course.
Daedalus Young: custom bumpmaps is a feature request in JIRA already :)
Torley Linden: Hirokii: Yes, that's been discussed too as part of WindLight -- could be easier in the future. We've been thinking about a new materials system.
Igel Hawks: Great to hear
Hirokii Hyun: That'd be nice.
Hirokii Hyun: I'd love to see refractive windows.
Hirokii Hyun: Would really add life to the game.
Torley Linden: I don't like being confined to current bumpmaps either, there are so few.
Hirokii Hyun: Yeah, Brightness and darkness just don't cut it.
Chase Marellan: I'd settle for being able to layer two transparent prims.
Torley Linden: Aye. Too harsh-looking in some settings too.
Hirokii Hyun: And trying to do an enviroment that looks wet or slick from rain is important.
Torley Linden: Chase: Without the annoying flickering?
Hirokii Hyun: Also, are we ever going to get a fix for layering multiple transparent prims? That's a KILLER on furry heads. Like what chase said.
Chase Marellan: Yep.
Hirokii Hyun: It's vastly irritating for hair on furry avatars.
Vivienne Graves: and updating the graphics engine beyond 1999 technology, too...new materials, bumpmapping, new avatar mesh, etc
Tayste Waydelich: Is there any technical reason why one cannot provide their own bumpmaps?
Kiddoh Korobase: It's castly irritating for hair in general
Torley Linden: I don't know about that, isn't Z-fighting a classic problem in computer graphics not particular to SL? I know it looks ugly.
Daedalus Young: User-defined bumpmaps: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1155
At0m0 Beerbaum: samus
Vivienne Graves: Hair, and shoes made with invisiprims
At0m0 Beerbaum: !
Daedalus Young: vote if you want it!
Hirokii Hyun: It's a classic problem, but there have been ways around it.
Lyndsey Forager: i must admit to loving shiney hair
Vivienne Graves: anything with an alpha texture near another alpha texture
Torley Linden: :D
Daedalus Young: z-fighting and z-buffer transparency issues are classic realtime 3D rendering problems
Torley Linden: I like shiny hair! Glad ot hear you do too Lyndsey.
Hirokii Hyun: Another question I have. Will we ever get the abbility to use alpha maps to define Mesh visibility on an avatar? Using Invisiprims is a KILLER for some avatars in immersion
Hirokii Hyun: Whenever you walk over alpha textures especially.
Kiddoh Korobase: What is this game called? Is it... Battletoads? D:
Hirokii Hyun: You just see this giant blob of invisibleness around avatars.
DJ Jenns: lol battletoads
DJ Jenns: i had that !
Brown Boa: its final fantasy
Torley Linden: Battletoads? I remember that game. Remember the one where they fought alongside Double Dragon?
Kiddoh Korobase: oh
Daedalus Young: the transparent problems can be solved if you subdivide meshes on-the-fly, that can become very slow with larger and more complex objects though
Hirokii Hyun: This is especially prevelant on furry digitrade legs and shoes.
DJ Jenns: Snes :D
Mystik Boucher: Bart it;s time for me to relog, I feel the crash coming :(
Beta Bates: Forogt all about having that. Wow.
Bart Heart: hehe
Samus Fardel: Lol @ battle toads and double dragon
Mystik Boucher: Torley: did you ever IRC anywhere? you're a chatass ;)
Beta Bates misses his Sega Genesis
Kiddoh Korobase: oh lawd Double Dragon don't tempt me to play that theme song
Torley Linden: Hirokii: Oh gosh you're hitting on a lot of great topics which came up internally; I can't say definitively if we will "ever" but that's another thing that's been wanted, and some work has been done in related areas internally.
Hirokii Hyun: I don't think we have to subdivide meshes. Just have a way of turning parts of the avatar invisible easily.
Beta Bates: No Z fighting on the Genesis. :P
DJ Jenns: Beta @ Streets of Rage
Beta Bates: No Z. Period.
Beta Bates: oooh.
Torley Linden: For example, not having to render avatar hair (the body part) scrunched up in someone's skull when they use prim hair... would be more efficient.
At0m0 Beerbaum: upgrading the physics engine would be good too
Daedalus Young: oh, transparent avs, I thought you meant transparency ordering errors
Torley Linden: Mystik: I did on occasion but I sure love pictures.
Torley Linden: I'm very visual.
DJ Jenns: at0m0 they are working on the Havok 4 physics upgrade...if i remember rightly
Aimee Congrejo: LOL Torley, you don't say? =^.^=
Hirokii Hyun: I really love SL as a creative platform. It's brilliant, yet incredibly difficult in a lot of ways.
Torley Linden: Some people always raise privacy concerns with "transparent avatar meshes", but then again, we can always see someone on the Mini-Map, and there are current ways to hide underground with an animation... it's kludgy.
Hirokii Hyun: And LL has this irritating habbit of announcing things but never externally following up, even if they're doing so internally.
Torley Linden: Hirokii: Yeah. I love seeing answers to longtime problems that lead us onto new things.
Hirokii Hyun: Havok 4 is a good example.
Torley Linden: I agree to an extent about the followup, having kept track of features that, "Where the heck did they go?!"
Daedalus Young: Alpha for avatar skin-colour: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-812
Daedalus Young: vote vote vote!
Nova Halderman: crash and burn
Hirokii Hyun: Also, are we ever going to get a proper ingame support or LL supported plugin for sculpts for Blender?
Torley Linden: DJ Jenns: Yes, Andrew Linden & the guys from Havok are continuing to grind away on Havok-4.
Hirokii Hyun: It seems like anyone making sculpts either has to jump through a TON of hoops, or use Maya.
At0m0 Beerbaum: torley, is it true that the server software may be opensourced in the near future?
Simon Kline: hehe sounds like they're bringing their powertools with them
Torley Linden: Hirokii: The next steps in sculpties will be inworld editors like Snurbo'Matic which Anjin Meili has already made. Eventually we'd like an inworld editor built into the system. As for Blender-specific support, I don't know.
At0m0 Beerbaum: just sans the havok engine
Hirokii Hyun: It's one thing if people pirate maya to make free things. It's another if they want to sell commercially availible products. That's lawsuit central.
Daedalus Young: there already exists OpenSim
JayR Cela: there are some blender import export tools available on their website
Torley Linden: But I do know some Residents have been enthusiastic about providing support for their fave 3D app.
At0m0 Beerbaum: haha opensim
At0m0 Beerbaum: HAHAHA
Hirokii Hyun: JayR: They're also crap.
Torley Linden: I've just been getting into playing with sculpties, Sculptypaint sure is a lot of fun.
Vivienne Graves: Actually, pirating Maya to 'make free things' isn't alright eithe
DJ Jenns: hahaha ?
At0m0 Beerbaum: have you ever RAN one of those servers?
Daedalus Young: no
Vivienne Graves: rYou apparently aren't acquainted with copyright law
At0m0 Beerbaum: exactly
At0m0 Beerbaum: I ran one to test it out
DJ Jenns: whats wrong with it ?
Torley Linden: OpenSim and other open source innovations will help point the way towards what is possible.
At0m0 Beerbaum: crashes, uses more ram than the system has
JayR Cela: Hiro / ooops / sorry I never tried useing them :_)
At0m0 Beerbaum: clunky, slow
At0m0 Beerbaum: etc
DJ Jenns: wtf
DJ Jenns: at0m0
Tayste Waydelich: Have you heard anything recent about LSL? The news on the possible mono shift is quite old.
At0m0 Beerbaum: mono = HORRID language
DJ Jenns: you do realise right
Torley Linden: Some stuff performs like crap but you look at it and go, "Hmm... there's potential... keep going."
DJ Jenns: your running like 4 servers on one machine
Hirokii Hyun: Lua would be far more appropriate.
DJ Jenns: each one has its own machine with LL
Torley Linden: For anyone curious about sculpted prims... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Sculpted_Prims
At0m0 Beerbaum: torley, the problem with opensim is the language it uses
Torley Linden: (Who hasn't seen that yet!)
Hirokii Hyun: Lua is all the rage these days with it's flash to light with Garry's mod.
At0m0 Beerbaum: mono is a horrible language
Hirokii Hyun: Torley, one question though.
Hirokii Hyun: Two BIG problems I have with sculpts are this:
JayR Cela: In regards to Mono the open source folks are working on it / but is still up in the air
At0m0 Beerbaum: I mean, they would have been better off with java for god's sake
Shinee Jewell: is there an update on sculpties?
Torley Linden: Hirokii: You sure have a lot of questions. =D
Hirokii Hyun: It's nearly impossible to make anything that isn't mostly spherical in design. You can do it, but it come sout weird unless you're really lucky.
Daedalus Young: I don't know Mono, but if it's Microsoft, it probably is not very easy to use :/
DJ Jenns: thought you were only asking a few lmfao
Daedalus Young: I like lsl as it is now
Hirokii Hyun: Are we ever going to get support for non-spherebased sculpts?
Torley Linden: Hirokii: Oh, like something with a hole in it?
Hirokii Hyun: Yeah
Kamael Xevious: I've never used a sphere... I work with cubes, mostly.
Warren Flanagan: yea support for 2D sculpts would be handy too
Kamael Xevious: ?
Hirokii Hyun: There's fancier words for it but you know.
Hirokii Hyun: I just dislike being confined to round objects for sculpts.
Orzga Aabye: mapping from a sphere, can't have holes
Kamael Xevious: LOD on sculpties is a problem,t hough.
Torley Linden: I don't know more about that, but Qarl and Periapse Linden might. I would hope the future of sculpties allows more flexibility that way.
Hirokii Hyun: Yeah
Hirokii Hyun: Another big problem I have with sculpts:
Kiddoh Korobase: ♥
Shinee Jewell: good
Orzga Aabye: know topo invariant lol
Tayste Waydelich: Sadly, LSL as it is now is terribly prone to sim-crashes.
Hirokii Hyun: You have to delete the north and south pole.
Torley Linden: Yeah, culling vertices at distances looks very rough.
At0m0 Beerbaum: but is it true the server software may be opensourced soon?
Torley Linden: Oooh a Unicode heart!
Hirokii Hyun: Which causes the weird Swirly capping
Torley Linden: At0m0: Not soon, that I know of...
Hirokii Hyun: Which looks ugly as hell.
Kamael Xevious: Close them back up, Hirokii.
At0m0 Beerbaum: I heard the OSS devs were slowly merging it into the SVN trunk
At0m0 Beerbaum: but that could be a lie
At0m0 Beerbaum: or a rumor
Hirokii Hyun: Kamael: You have to delete the poles to get them into SL. That's just how it works.
Torley Linden: we're continuing to see how well contributors to the Viewer source code are doing, tho... including the Hippo awards for Open Source Innovators. :)
DJ Jenns: or both
DJ Jenns: lolol
Kamael Xevious: Then close the poles back up, Hirokii.
Kamael Xevious: I do it all the time.
At0m0 Beerbaum: technically, couldnt a viewer be modified to handle graphics differently?
Daedalus Young: make te pole holes as small as possible
Hirokii Hyun: No matter what you're going to get that swirly effect.
Kamael Xevious: Right.
At0m0 Beerbaum: like when it comes down to viewing graphics?
Aimee Congrejo: Yah Torley...I didn't see me nominated for most annoying Jira contributor LOL
Torley Linden: I'm looking for a nice easy way to paint UV map textures for sculpties, anyone got recommendations?
Kamael Xevious: But you can minimize it down to the point that it's not noticeable, Hirokii.
Torley Linden: Aimee: But you're not annoying! You're so helpful!
Hirokii Hyun: It'd be nice if we had straightforward, easy to use tools like Sculptypaint for non symetrical objects.
Aimee Congrejo: Torley...just joking ^^ My usual sarcastic manner ^^
Torley Linden: "Linden Lab to recognize Open Source Contributors" - http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/07/17/linden-lab-to-recognize-open-source-contributors/
Daedalus Young: I now use Blender's textures and bake that on an image, that works
At0m0 Beerbaum: Also, another question, are any of the OSS or linux devs on this game?
Tayste Waydelich: Technically, the viewer could be ANSI. Depends on the will of the developer spending time on whatever project.
Torley Linden: Haha Aimee. Well I am serious, thanks again for all your help there.
At0m0 Beerbaum: I know what they could do for multimedia playback under linux
Kamael Xevious: LOD would help there, if increased.
Tayste Waydelich: A few.
Aimee Congrejo: Thankies Torley! ^^
Hirokii Hyun: OH!
Hirokii Hyun: Torley, another question, And yeah, I'm full of them :p
Torley Linden: Sculptypaint is getting some new features like a bezier editor I think?
Torley Linden: It can already do some weird-ass shiznit.
At0m0 Beerbaum: using either A) gstreamer backend (yuck) b) xine/mplayer or c) videolan
Torley Linden: I'll keep an eye on it.
Hirokii Hyun: Will we ever get more media support for video? Audio supports Ogg vorbis which is great alternative to mp3
Hirokii Hyun: However, it would really be nice if we had support for FLV, MPEG, DivX
At0m0 Beerbaum: or even better, rewrite the multimedia backend for the SL client to have a plugins system
Hirokii Hyun: FLV especially. So we could stream youtube or google video stuff.
At0m0 Beerbaum: or wma
Angsty Rossini: FLV?? ick!
Hirokii Hyun: Hardly anyone uses mov for the most part.
At0m0 Beerbaum: and mov is horrible for streamining
At0m0 Beerbaum: streaming*
Hirokii Hyun: Angsty: FLV is ick but it's widely availible. Not everyone has their own server to stream video off of.
Torley Linden: Hirokii: Ah, well one thing we've wrestled with is... as we go open source, it's nice to use open source libraries so we can distribute them more freely... video formats, I'm not sure, but we added the ability to upload PNGs as textures not too long ago, thanks to an open source contributor.
Hirokii Hyun: So playing a youtube clip is a lot more accessable.
DJ Jenns: no but mpeg4 is ok for steaming
Tayste Waydelich: Parcel streams can also handle mp4, Hirokii.
Daedalus Young: mpeg-4 is used when streaming from blip.tv right?
DJ Jenns: works with SDP's
Torley Linden: I've been using MP4 myself, after doing my own encodes.
At0m0 Beerbaum: TBH, using quicktime is.. ugh
Torley Linden: http://torley.com/how-to-convert-youtube-videos-for-playing-in-second-life
At0m0 Beerbaum: the best solution for multimedia playback would be a plugins system
Tateru Nino: There are patches in the works for gstreamer support.
Hirokii Hyun: I know it's best to use Open source stuff. But that doesn't mean we can't have a plugins system liek Atomo says.
At0m0 Beerbaum: so people can use their favorite player or media backend
At0m0 Beerbaum: at least for movie playback
Hirokii Hyun: LL could just make an arrangement with DivX or what have you to include a DivX plugin for SL
Hirokii Hyun: Stuff like that
Torley Linden: With plugins tho, people who want to be able to play certain formats would have to all download those plugins, right?
Hirokii Hyun: That way you don't have to expose it.
Daedalus Young: as long as nobody starts using RealMedia for their parcels :/
At0m0 Beerbaum: I know SL has its own music streaming built in
Warren Flanagan: playing video inworld is disastrous for my fairly midrange PC as it stands
Hirokii Hyun: Yet you still get the advantage of open source
DJ Jenns: Torley - we'd quickly make a codec pack ;)
Warren Flanagan: i have a feeling plugins would make that even worse
At0m0 Beerbaum: torley, no
Torley Linden: Haha, the humor in this is that Philip Linden used to work at RealNetworks.
Hirokii Hyun: Buffering
At0m0 Beerbaum: plugins that interface with certain players
DJ Jenns: lmao
Daedalus Young: yes, I know
DJ Jenns: ouch
At0m0 Beerbaum: like a vlc plugin that initializes VLC in game
Tateru Nino: Again, gstreamer support is apparently being merged in, and that has plugin support.
JayR Cela: Divxx Rocks big time I would like to see that supported
At0m0 Beerbaum: or mplayer
Angsty Rossini: VLC - nice!! :)
Hirokii Hyun: Like I said, though.
At0m0 Beerbaum: mor mediaplayer classic
At0m0 Beerbaum: xine,
At0m0 Beerbaum: gstreamer
At0m0 Beerbaum: etc
Orzga Aabye: real strangely wants to take over the desk top ...
Torley Linden: I didn't know about Gstreamer support... thanks Tat.
Hirokii Hyun: I'd like Support for DivX stage 6, Youtube, stuff like that.
Torley Linden: There's a lot going on, on so many fronts.
Tateru Nino: It's news from a couple weeks back but easy to miss.
Torley Linden: I think it's immensely rewarding that you can easier find a focus of interest in Second Life and really excel at it. Always more to learn.
Tayste Waydelich: It is my understanding that FMOD natively supports a few DSP filters. Are there currently any plans to incorporate such features into LSL, such as pitch alteration/etc?
Orzga Aabye: it was the begingin of the desktop as commercial real estate
JayR Cela: Real network is a piece of %$#& it takes over your system , just as someone else has allready pointed out
At0m0 Beerbaum: and making x window calls in linux wouldnt be hard in opengl, beryl renders the desktop in 3d ;P
Hirokii Hyun: I think once Sculpties get put in the hand of the "common man" instead of just people who have Maya would be really nice.
Hirokii Hyun: it will be*
Orzga Aabye: i think they just understood a commerical realisty
Orzga Aabye: /reality/
Hirokii Hyun: Oh yeah, Torley, two more things.
Torley Linden: YouTube's an interesting case... eventually they are going to encode stuff in H.264 for Apple TV. I wonder if they'll encode all videos on their site that way...
Orzga Aabye: althouh it was a pain
Orzga Aabye: /isi/
Hirokii Hyun: Does LL have any intention of letting us stream to objects instead of a whole parcel for audio? We can do that with video, but not for Audio.
Torley Linden: then they're all playable with QuickTime, and hence, within Second Life.
Shinee Jewell: has anyone seen the in-world scupltie tools that TheBlack Box has?
Angsty Rossini: Torley, I thought YouTube had already converted about 10000 to H.264
At0m0 Beerbaum: It would probably be in LL's best interest to stay away from propreietary code
Chase Marellan: Hirokii: You can't do that with video.
Hirokii Hyun: And I'd like to stream to a bunch of "Prim speakers" instead of to an entire parcel.
Igel Hawks: That would be great Torley
Torley Linden: Tayste: Hmm... we've had some devs interested in upgrading audio (kinda the sonic equivalent of WindLight) but, no current plans to definitely do that.
Chase Marellan: Or if you can, please tell ME how!
Hirokii Hyun: Chase: Yes, you can, you replace textures on the parcel with the media.
Hirokii Hyun: That's how it's always worked.
Daedalus Young: I've seen, Shinee, but not yet used
Hirokii Hyun: The video itself is localized. The audio isnt
Hirokii Hyun: Simple as that.
Torley Linden: Angsty: They've already done that? Oh, well if that's the case, all the better. :)
Hirokii Hyun: Spacialized rather
At0m0 Beerbaum: is windlight a bought technology or a licensed technology?
Angsty Rossini: I thought they were doing it all for the iPhone :)
Shinee Jewell: let me pass you some notes. He did a presentation at my sculpties workshop last week
At0m0 Beerbaum: where LL owns the patents
Hirokii Hyun: Spacial audio and video are great.
Orzga Aabye: that is interseting.
JayR Cela: Windliight was bought by LL
Chase Marellan: Hiro: but all the SAME media. I thought you meant different per prim. :(
Tateru Nino: Bought and released to open source.
Torley Linden: WindLight was bought, acquired from Windward Mark Interactive -- the personnel are all Lindens. Very smart, passionate guys I must add.
At0m0 Beerbaum: cool
Hirokii Hyun: Chase: True D:
Orzga Aabye: no one has done echo mapping .. like the sonic equi. of ray tracing
Daedalus Young: cool, I got a note of that presentation through the Sculpties group, but couldn't attend, unf...
Hirokii Hyun: First things first, I'd rather have Spacialization before we worry about Audio DSP effects.
JayR Cela: Windlight is also on the back burner for a while
Torley Linden: More WindLight history and info @ http://blog.secondlife.com/?s=windlight (scroll back some!)
Tayste Waydelich: A few things such as pitch alteration would allow for some neat mod-tracking type applications.
Beta Bates: Sorry, all.
Torley Linden: People of course have different priorities, it's intriguing to hear what gets asked for popularly, as well as less-obvious stuff that may be incredibly useful in the long run.
Hirokii Hyun: Id' really like an abbility for better parcel sound support for enviromental audio. It's irritating to have a rainstorm and yet you can only hear the sound in a small corner of your sim :|
Torley Linden: Tayste: I had so much fun with my Amiga and MOD files...
Torley Linden: I liked the sheer crispness of some of those dithered snare drums!
Hirokii Hyun: Particle collision or maybe... *gasp* Weather being added into SL itself would be REALLY damn nice :|
Beta Bates: Amiga <3
Torley Linden: Hirokii: Weather is a future planned phase of WindLight.
Orzga Aabye: i don't think the rendering of sounda s a spacial phenom was needed until now ..
Torley Linden: It's a natural consequence of better atmospheres.
Chase Marellan: Weather would be amazing.
Vivienne Graves: ThYou have to balance the environmental audio thing with the fact that maybe EVERYONE in the sim DOESN'T want to hear your rainstorm, though
Igel Hawks: It is nice to view, yah
Hirokii Hyun: Vivienne: When you're a sim owner, you want people to observe it a certain way.
Hirokii Hyun: I'm not talking about mainland or split up sims.
Lyndsey Forager: hello, im'm back - nasty whole laptop crashed
Hirokii Hyun: I'm talking massive parcels or just even smaller ones.
Torley Linden: One of the things that throws people off about Voice is, voices aren't processed to be in the same space (e.g., reverb)... so it can be disorienting to your senses to stand in a big forest but someone sounds like they're talking in an office (which they may well be).
Hirokii Hyun: It's hard to get it immersive.
Orzga Aabye: wb lyndsey
Torley Linden: Welcome back!
Hirokii Hyun: Torley: Already using voice in other games, I've been used to that. I think that's sort of unavoidable.
Igel Hawks: wb
Lyndsey Forager: thank you thank you
Orzga Aabye: yw yw
Beta Bates: and reverb on someone's voice who *is* in an office doesn't necessarily make it soud like a cathedral
Torley Linden: So there are so many angles things can be approached; as alluded to earlier, I like looking for stuff that we've been waiting for, for so long, and then got a good implementation of it. There's always more to go on.
At0m0 Beerbaum: oh if it hasnt been mentioned: make default hair flexi and realistic :P
Torley Linden: Beta: Exactly, tricky!
Aimee Congrejo: Yah Torley...I know what you mean about the weird background noise in Voice...
Hirokii Hyun: Does SL have any plans for graphical portals?
Torley Linden: I have been in meetings... and then I hear an ambulance go by.
At0m0 Beerbaum: will voice ever be opensourced?
Beta Bates: Can't just ship everyone $4000 worth of acoutic foam.
Torley Linden: Hirokii: For teleports?
Aimee Congrejo: Kinda interesting tho listening to people's background noise LOL
Beta Bates: :P
At0m0 Beerbaum: would be nice to have voice in linux
Hirokii Hyun: Teleports, or mirrors
Hirokii Hyun: Things like that.
Shinee Jewell: lol
Torley Linden: At0m0: I don't know about open-sourcing Voice.
Beta Bates: Voice - Now with free abfusors.
Tateru Nino bails.
At0m0 Beerbaum: also hurrah, 2.1 FPS on mt 7600GT
Torley Linden: "Hey, is that your cat!?!???"
Hirokii Hyun: I understand it could be a hit on the rendering engine, but still
Hirokii Hyun: As well as you know, maybe having teleport on touch for things like stargates. Having to walk through and then click the event horizion kills the coolness factor.
Orzga Aabye: my cat can type
Torley Linden: I like Stargate's effects a lot... we had prototype art for better transitions in teleports... so that one's still an open possibility.
At0m0 Beerbaum: as long as it doesnt replace traditional teleporting
Daedalus Young: my cat likes to sit half on the keyboard
Torley Linden: I find it amusing how many Stargate-like things are around Second Life, isn't there a whole network?
Tayste Waydelich: Hirokii: this might be left field, and a bit off-topic.. but Ihead Adam Zaiius was toying with the idea.
Hirokii Hyun: I know "immersion" may seem to some like an unimportant thing in SL.
Hirokii Hyun: but I think it's really important.
Torley Linden: I think in some cases, we need smoother transitions, like crossfades.
Hirokii Hyun: Yeah
Vivienne Graves: Well
Torley Linden: It certainly made a big difference in Final Fantasy games when going into a battle. :)
Lyndsey Forager: yeah - its a tp network with dhd's and everything
Orzga Aabye: my cat doesn't want voice.. then you wil know she is a dog
Vivienne Graves: that's one of the reasons I don't much plan to use voice
Vivienne Graves: it'
Torley Linden: Orzga: Ha ha ha!
Aimee Congrejo: Torley, yah, dozens of stargates to choose to TP thru
Torley Linden: Stargaaaate... it's a great big world, with a great big swirl, etc.
Hirokii Hyun: I'd love to have graphical portals where I could have a visual portal opened up. See my buds and just say "Sup" even though I might be ten parcels away.
Vivienne Graves: it kills immersion
Hirokii Hyun: Ala Prey / Portal
Daedalus Young: hehe
Torley Linden: Hirokii: Hahah! That's a great example.
Lyndsey Forager: lol, does the grid have to account for stellar shift
Torley Linden: Peek through a quantum window.
Hirokii Hyun: Yeah
Aimee Congrejo: Lyndsey, naw, but it has to account for lag ^^
Torley Linden: It'd be so freaky to see a dinosaur head pop out.
Lyndsey Forager: he he
Hirokii Hyun: I know LL couldn't pull it off AMAZINGLY smooth, but even just a little bit would be nice.
Hirokii Hyun: Haha, yeah.
Torley Linden: "OMG! CLOSE THE PORTAL!!!!"
Hirokii Hyun: Stargate irises would be actually useful :p
Lyndsey Forager: lol - dont step on that butterfly
Igel Hawks: Ohh nooooo!
Torley Linden: "TEMPORAL PARADOX!" (Oh, that reminds me of Raiden in Metal Gear Solid outtakes...)
Shinee Jewell: could it be set to appear on a media player?
Torley Linden: Yeah, shame that "A Sound of Thunder" the movie was not as good as I hoped it'd be.
Torley Linden: But I'm generally up for funz0r time travel romps.
Hirokii Hyun: Another thing torley.. just to ask out of curiousity.
Lyndsey Forager: have you been to see the simpsons film yet torley?
Torley Linden: Early on in SL I had a TARDIS and a Bill + Ted's phone booth.
Torley Linden: Not yet Lyndsey!
Torley Linden: How is it?
Beta Bates: EXCELLENT!
Daedalus Young: have you seen The time Phone?
Daedalus Young: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=370064918044316833&q=time+phone&total=11034&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0
Lyndsey Forager: im going this weekend
Aimee Congrejo: LOL Iah I've seen the TARDIS kicking around SL ^^
Hirokii Hyun: I know that SL used to be an indirect teleport world, You had to use hubs and things like that.
Torley Linden: *makes note of time phone*
Hirokii Hyun: Portals would be wicked for actual Tardises.
Hirokii Hyun: Another good use for 'em
Hirokii Hyun: Anyway
At0m0 Beerbaum: hey now that would be a cool thing in SL
Daedalus Young: funny short movie :P
Torley Linden: Hurr hurrrrr yes, TELEHUBS!
Hirokii Hyun: One problem I have with SL is as a whole, how incoherent it is.
Torley Linden: OMG... that's when I launched protests...
Vivienne Graves: A lot of estate sims still use telehubs
At0m0 Beerbaum: but it would be really hard to pull off
Torley Linden: back in my younger days...
Hirokii Hyun: You see this on the mainlands still:
Torley Linden: I set mainland telehubs on fire.
Kamael Xevious: Telehubs... bad BAD mistake getting rid of those... destroyed the unlimited semiosis of Second Life.
At0m0 Beerbaum: a TARDIS
Hirokii Hyun: Cities are just shoved together.
At0m0 Beerbaum: one that's actually huge inside
Lyndsey Forager: lol, torley - were you a rebel?
Torley Linden: One of the only remaining telehubs is... in Waterhead. I didn't burn that one, lots of wood, too flammable.
Hirokii Hyun: Massive globs of malls, clubs, casinsos. Stuff like that.
Torley Linden: Rebel? Maybe, I was a wild youth! Hehe.
Hirokii Hyun: But really, torley... My big problem with SL Is this:
Lyndsey Forager: he he
Torley Linden: I remember those "scoop malls"...
Hirokii Hyun: There's no transit systems. There's no travelling.
Igel Hawks: Look at Torley, any questions? LOL
Orzga Aabye: what's a telehub?
Hirokii Hyun: I can't really walk through the world or drive around.
Torley Linden: You teleported to a telehub and then all of a sudden, flying a bit, a mall with a big roof CATCHES you.
Hirokii Hyun: It's teleport here, teleport this
Vivienne Graves: Hirokii: Coherence and 'your world, your imagination' don't go hand in hand
Warren Flanagan: lol sorry
Daedalus Young: there are some travel systems
At0m0 Beerbaum: too laggy to drive in game
Torley Linden: Some people like to fly and explore.
Daedalus Young: there are "Metro" carriages hovering over Northern continent roads
Torley Linden: I do on occasion. But often I need shortcuts.
Kamael Xevious: Since when, Vivienne?
Hirokii Hyun: Instant transportation is important, I agree
Orzga Aabye: a teleport problem is how to control congession
Torley Linden: Intriguing to see what sorts of vehicular activity has come about.
Vivienne Graves: if someonhe wants to build a futiristic Death Spire next to a gothic cathedral, on the mainland, at least, they can
Hirokii Hyun: It's just I think we should have things for people like me who love to just roaming about.
Orzga Aabye: there are no hints about how many peopoe at destination
Hirokii Hyun: One problem in SL, I get so bored so fast simply because of one thing. I run out of keywords to find cool stuff.
Torley Linden: I laugh so much at things that look as if they come out of a prog rock 70s album cover art.
Orzga Aabye: in rl we'd crush each other ...
Torley Linden: I dig that stuff.
Hirokii Hyun: Whereas with a train, if I see something really cool, I just hop off!
Shinee Jewell: you could use the map
Torley Linden: I don't use Search very much, I often visit blogs or hear about cool places in other ways (please feel free to drop landmarks on me). :)
Hirokii Hyun: The map isn't very detailed, it's not the same as seeing some hilarious looking building or ad and hopping otu to see what it's about
Hirokii Hyun: There's no real sense of adventure. :|
Aimee Congrejo: Yah...a Stumbleupon.com (I think that's the site) for SL wouldd be great!
Orzga Aabye: you break many bones hirokii?
Igel Hawks: LOL
Shinee Jewell: true... but it is a little hint
Kamael Xevious: exactly, Hirokii... eliminating telehubs eliminated travel... and that eliminated inspiration.
Lyndsey Forager: i think sl itself can be boring - its the connections you make that make the world exciting
Vivienne Graves: populated places on the map are usually full of camping zombies
Hirokii Hyun: Kamael: Yup!
Torley Linden: I haven't used StumbleUpon.com but I *LOVE* serendipitous discovery.
Igel Hawks: You will be overcrwded with LMs Torley
Orzga Aabye: jmping off moving trains lol?
Hirokii Hyun: Yeah
Hirokii Hyun: THat's another thing
Torley Linden: People often make the difference.
Hirokii Hyun: I HATE CAMPING ZONES so much.
Hirokii Hyun: They KILL this game.
Torley Linden: Igel: I already am, and I hope for more!
Vivienne Graves: looking at snapshots on SLniverse and following the SLURLs is a good way to find new places, I've found
Hirokii Hyun: Just a bunch of zombies idling on pads.
Angsty Rossini: I explore by clicking onthe map and TP there, then just fly aroung....
Hirokii Hyun: It's just... Why bother?
Torley Linden: Yeah, like Vivienne said, it's very visual to go through a snapshot site... that's why I keep a photostream of my inworld adventures.
Hirokii Hyun: Any populated area with camping is usually just as desolate as a newborn, unpopulated mainland sim.
Jessica Holyoke: Without camping, what would you suggest for new players to do to get into the economy?
Torley Linden: http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/ for anyone who missed it earlier.
Aimee Congrejo: Yah Hirokii...camping costs more in electricity to keep yer compy on than to just buy Lindens
Shinee Jewell: thx
Hirokii Hyun: Hippy pay is a great way for newbies to get involved
Hirokii Hyun: And way more effective.
Vivienne Graves: Sure, great idea
Torley Linden: There are always opportunities. Being observant is key. To this day, there's a lack of good documentation for a lot of stuff. I earned early L$ by proof-reading notecards and writing product manuals.
Orzga Aabye: torley, where is torley solos #1 .. found 2 and 3 ..
Igel Hawks: Dont go to camping areas if you dont like it, it's easy
Hirokii Hyun: As well as jobs around out there for people like DJs, dancers, stuff like that.
Orzga Aabye: sorry to non-sec into it ..
Vivienne Graves: Sell your personal information for less than a buck
Hirokii Hyun: Igel: Not when they infest nearly every inch of SL these days.
Daedalus Young: solo piano 4 is my fave
Igel Hawks: That's true, yeah
Lyndsey Forager: did you like iwoot torley - i saw you snapped ceeqs robosapian
Hirokii Hyun: Viviene: As opposed to wasting your priceless time for less than 10 cents?
Orzga Aabye: then there's even more i don't find yet
Orzga Aabye: ..
Torley Linden: People love hearing about useful tips -- there are great Resident blogs that emphasize this. Sharing your adventures can be a useful adjunct to a related business you've started... e.g., blogging about hair products and having a hair store.
Vivienne Graves: I hate Hippie Pay more than camping, personally
Chase Marellan: Torley: maybe that's what SL needs: more "real" jobs for newbies. :)
Torley Linden: Yes, IWOOT was lots of fun!
Torley Linden: Patience is important but can't be given by a computer.
Torley Linden: Hehehe.
Torley Linden: Glad you like the piano recordings...
Torley Linden: Orzga if you google search my site... lemme see...
Daedalus Young: somebody once suggested LL could hire people to walk the grid and clean up mess from Gov Linden Land
Hirokii Hyun: My point is... I'd just like to see some kind of transit around. I don't know.
Hirokii Hyun: I like the OLD mainland where you have roads
Kamael Xevious: I still say SL needs a public works program. I know Robin was wanting to do one, but it seems to have evaporated.
Hirokii Hyun: Trains
Hirokii Hyun: Busses
Orzga Aabye: i 'll handle it... now i know 1 and 4 i have to find .. thanks
Hirokii Hyun: Things like that.
Igel Hawks: Trains are great
Vivienne Graves: you should go to Caledon and look at the train system there
Igel Hawks: I love the Railroads
Hirokii Hyun: It would be just nice to have some public land running through the continents to let people travel.
Vivienne Graves: goes through...what, 11 sims, I think
Torley Linden: Thanks for listening Orzga!
Lyndsey Forager: there are many vehicals in sk
Chase Marellan: Kamael: Hear hear!
Orzga Aabye: are there parks (publically owned) in sl? i don't think so ..
Chase Marellan: Hiro: Have you seen the Linden Road?
Daedalus Young: there are train tracks over the Northern and a bit Southern continent, but they're often broken: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-316
Hirokii Hyun: Lyndsey: And when you use them... you usually hit someone's Unicorn rainbow teaparty palace which is "GROUP ACCESS ONLY"
Orzga Aabye: hey where are yuz guyz pub spiritlol
Torley Linden: Now that's interesting, about cleanups... our Concierge & Land Team has been so busy with things like filling island orders... but I do know we have the ability to batch-set parcels with given settings.
Torley Linden: We could set mass Governor Linden-owned parcels to have autoreturn... but at the same time, we often find there's Linden stuff that isn't set correctly. :\
Hirokii Hyun: And sim transitioning kills any kind of flight these days.
Kamael Xevious: the lack of open spaces and public parks is something I've been complaining aobut for going on 4 years, Orzga... you see how much progress I've made.
JayR Cela: a public transit system via train would be great / if it were not for the cross simm border problems SL still seems to be having
Torley Linden: So that requires visual inspection right there.
Hirokii Hyun: If you even manage to get a good voyage going. Bam, you crash into an access only parcel anyway.
Hirokii Hyun: Really irritating.
Torley Linden: Whatever happened to Higbee Protagonist? He used to run a big parks guide...
Orzga Aabye: strange .. just like rl .. lol
Vivienne Graves: Sim transitioning always HAS killed any kind of vehicular movement
Igel Hawks: Or the elevated train on Germania Prime?
Vivienne Graves: because your avatar data and attachment data etc are physically moving from one machine to another
Torley Linden: The closest to a "publically owned" park may be De Haro, a very old region. Aside from that, new regions before they're set for sale -- ahhhh terrain expanse!
Vivienne Graves: there's server lag, and latency
Kamael Xevious: That's not true, Vivienne.
Kamael Xevious: That's absolutely not true.
Hirokii Hyun: Speaking of which Torley... I do have a question.
Bart Heart: Try Memorial Park
JayR Cela: evan the IBM islands got rid of their train because people kept loosing there Hair and shoes's when riding their train around their islands
Kamael Xevious: There was a time when it was quite smooth.
Hirokii Hyun: We really need to face the facts here: Second life is a Feudal society. We don't have any rights anywhere on any private sim because it's just that, Private.
Lyndsey Forager: you signed up to it!
Hirokii Hyun: No freedom of speech, nothing like that, And while yes that's all fine and dandy, things like Banlink become a threat to expression.
Hirokii Hyun: Let me finish.
Vivienne Graves: When there was one sim per server instead of four, and concurrency was 10-k instead of 40k, maybe
Aimee Congrejo: Yah...seems that ever since the June 29th rolling restart I lose my C:SI blades and HUD every time I cross a sim border
Hirokii Hyun: My point is, People say Banlink is a self-regulating system. Yet it's hard to argue a way to clean your reputation when you're a newbie and you're going up against a 3 year old account who runs estates
Hirokii Hyun: Most people won't believe you and just shrug you off.
Orzga Aabye: the browth must be something to kep up w/ in terms fo cycles
Hirokii Hyun: So if one sim or group gets centralized control of banlink because everyone trusts them
Kamael Xevious: Actually, it was before they changed the way sim transitions were handled... but yes, before your time.
Hirokii Hyun: Ine ssance they have the power to silence anyone they don't like.
Torley Linden: I like empirical cases beyond theory... has anyone actually met a new account so adversely affected by BanLink, and who talked to the creators about it?
Hirokii Hyun: People may be banning people they'd like without even knowing it.
Orzga Aabye: ah... the pains fo digital commerce ...
Torley Linden: Having some actual examples would of course be useful.
Hirokii Hyun: Banlink reminds me of communisim. It's great on paper, but the problem is when you have real people in it.
Hirokii Hyun: Yiffy Yifu is one I can think of offhand
Jessica Holyoke: I haven't seen banlink at work yet, although I did write an article not so long ago about people discriminating against others based on group membership
Hirokii Hyun: Angel fluffy had her entered in Banlink
Hirokii Hyun: And she got banned from an asston of SL.
Orzga Aabye: it's all great on paper .. there's no magic system ..
Hirokii Hyun: Without any rational reason from Angel fluffy.
Hirokii Hyun: There's no magic system, but we can learn from our mistakes and make more flexible systems.
Hirokii Hyun: There is always a way to adapt.
Chase Marellan: Hiro: And did she contact Banlink about it?
Orzga Aabye: the details the balance therein is the wisdom
Torley Linden: There's the "two sides of every story" adage of course.
Hirokii Hyun: It's kind of hard to do that; Angel fluffy is good friends with the banlink high ups and may be one as far as I recall.
Torley Linden: It's interesting seeing these Resident-created systems... because at the same time, someone who disagrees with such a system doesn't have to use it. If they are vociferously against what they see as unjustified bannings.
Orzga Aabye: and yes it's pretty out there, in here, right now
Vivienne Graves: well, since Banlink is something that's used by land and sim owners and has nothing whatever to do wih LL officially, I don't know that there's any point to bringing it up here
Chase Marellan: Viv: Yes, thank you.
Hirokii Hyun: It's just, SL has always been advertized as a place of free creative expression. If that's not the case, even just because of third party circumstances, How does that work?
Hirokii Hyun: Things like broadly offensive especially. Where do you draw the line?
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Orzga Aabye: LL has had a real time undersanding when to intervene, when to let things develop
Torley Linden: Landowners are free to express who they want to ban on t heir land, conversely.
Vivienne Graves: You'd have to take that up with the landowners who use banlink
Hirokii Hyun: Are we a free second life, or a mob ruled second life? Are we going to have rights, or is it going to become a cookie cutter world?
Vivienne Graves: I suppose
Warren Flanagan: ah the chairality is at max
Aimee Congrejo: Yes, but freedom unfortunately gives people the ability to squash other's freedoms ^^
Kamael Xevious: Really? Can I ban a Linden and have it stick?
Hirokii Hyun: Places like America IRL existed for a reason.
Torley Linden: The good news is... as Second Life grows so much, there'll be more and more places to visit and feel welcome at.
Torley Linden: Some interests which didn't even exist in Second Life months ago, now have growing subcultures.
Torley Linden: We've seen the rise and fall, and in some cases, re-rise of certain trends.
Jessica Holyoke: what re-rise did you notice Torley?
Orzga Aabye: w.r.t. this, the viewer is open source? that will do things
Vivienne Graves: therein lies the problem, though...since people can 'buy' 'land' (really a long-term lease of server space), they have the right to ban anyone they want to from their land
Torley Linden: So often, I've personally seen that someone who feels they're in an unjust situation hasn't taken the time to communicate with the party they disagree with. I understand how heated emotions can hamper that.
Hirokii Hyun: It's really not that I have a problem with Banlink, I have a problem with the very dangerous possibility of it being abused and then not being fixed.
Kamael Xevious: :::thud:::
Igel Hawks: Sorry lexxie
Vivienne Graves: same as any website can blacklist an IP address or domain and denyu access
Vivienne Graves: same principle
Kamael Xevious: emminent domain?
Lyndsey Forager: office hours are usually so much fun - i hate the tense atmosphere
Hirokii Hyun: call me a tin foiled had paranoid type person, but I just don't like how things might be screwed up in the future in a really bad situation.
Orzga Aabye: :-(
Torley Linden: Jessica: Flexiprims bringing new life, a second life, one might say, to prim skirts, and the many who wear and enjoy and discuss and make 'em. :)
Chase Marellan: Lyndsey: Yes. Anybody gota pleasant topic to talk about?
Hirokii Hyun: I'm about to ditch anyhow. I'm really tired.
Hirokii Hyun: Thanks for answering my questions, Torley.
Vivienne Graves: So, who read the Harry Potter novel and what did you think?
Torley Linden: You're welcome. :)
Orzga Aabye: i still want to know about the refelctions in shiny floors .//
Jessica Holyoke: Torley: when did prim skirts go away?
Hirokii Hyun: I appologize if I got a bit edgy. I'm pretty tired.
Daedalus Young: a pleasant topic is the Hidden Starax exhibition at Oyster Bay :)
Orzga Aabye: i was right about Snape ladee dah
Hirokii Hyun: If I came off that way, It wasn't intended.
Torley Linden: Jessica: For the time in late 2004-2005 when I was inquiring about them...
Vivienne Graves: hehe
Vivienne Graves: me too
Torley Linden: I heard surprisingly disgusted reactions.
Chase Marellan: No spoilers, PLEASE!
Kamael Xevious: I wasn't, but I WAS right about JK Rowling.
Hirokii Hyun: Later.
Orzga Aabye: :-) iv
Torley Linden: And then someone taught me about the history...
Jessica Holyoke: torley: ah ok, thanks
Torley Linden: of the likes of Misnomer Jones (the very first to create a prim skirt).
Torley Linden: Ahhh Harry Potter.
Torley Linden: I haven't read Deathly Hallows, but I really admire JK Rowling.
Lyndsey Forager: im only on chapter 10 of he new book - savouring every page
Orzga Aabye: Misnomer Jones is the inventor (alleg) of teh Prim Skirt!! what a factoid!!
Torley Linden: There's a good example of someone who has crafted such an endearing modern mythos, and struggled through much adversity to succeed, and touch so many people's lives.
Shinee Jewell: hard to find time to read it now I'm on SL all the time
Torley Linden: I love factoids, and sharing knowledge.
Torley Linden: Practical tips to help make your Second Life better. :)
Kamael Xevious: Modern Mythos? yeee.
Orzga Aabye: me 2
Torley Linden: For anyone who hasn't seen it yet either, http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/07/26/10-debug-options-you-should-know-about/ :D
Vivienne Graves: I dunno much about the modern mythos thing; the books were kind of fun, but she's no William Burroughs, or even Stephen King
Shinee Jewell: yes I read that Torley thx
Aimee Congrejo: Yah Torley I live in the debug menu LOL
Torley Linden: Now, Stephen King is my #1 fave author.
Torley Linden: Thanks for reading!
Aimee Congrejo: I'm such a geek ^^
Torley Linden: Dark Tower and how it interconnects with many other books is AMAZING.
Torley Linden: I like King's archetype of an "everyperson who finds themself in a bad, bad place".
Lyndsey Forager: when is bridie s office hours?
Torley Linden: Bridie's are on Wednesday @ 3 PM PDT.
Shinee Jewell: King's writing sometimes seems to lose momentum or enthusiasm as the story gets closer to the end
Orzga Aabye: well it's hard to talk about Potter w/o giving away anything
Torley Linden: Bridie is my collaborator in managing WindLight, critical bugs, and a number of other things.
Lyndsey Forager: thanks torley
Torley Linden: Shinee: Sometimes I find that, like in Cell.
Kamael Xevious: The masters get to be masters by producing a LOT of stuff... some of which can't help but be crap. Shakespeare went through the same thing...
Chase Marellan: :)
Torley Linden: Neal Stephenson is another reputed to have "out of steam" endings... but he says he wrote them just as he wanted to.
Kamael Xevious: Read Titus Andronicus if you doubt me.
Vivienne Graves: I was a LITTLE disappointed with the last Dark Tower book...but in a way, it was the perfect ending, too
Torley Linden: Kam: Amazingly true.
Torley Linden: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Office_Hours
Shinee Jewell: :)
Aimee Congrejo: Torley...Neal Stephenson...the Shockwave Rider author?
Torley Linden: ^ All Lindens having office hours, and if you know someone who doesn't, tell 'em to add themselves. :)
Aimee Congrejo: Do I have the right guy?
Vivienne Graves: Snow Crash
Vivienne Graves: And THe Diamond Age
Aimee Congrejo: Aha
Vivienne Graves: And Cryptonomicon
Aimee Congrejo: Thankies
Kamael Xevious: And Cryptonomicon.
Torley Linden: Diamond Age is my fave book of all time. Thus far.
Kamael Xevious: But I much prefer Gibson.
Torley Linden: I loved how it mixed a sort of playful fantasy with the post-cyberpunk leanings.
Torley Linden: I read Neuromancer but I find Gibson's style drier. He's undoubtedly a great though.
Vivienne Graves: Stephenson reminds me a bit of THomas Pynchon, actually
Torley Linden: What's that line about the sky being turned to the channel of a dead television, or something?
Kamael Xevious: It is drier... but I like that :D
Chase Marellan: Very dry, but good grief if we're not living his world...
Igel Hawks: Be back on the next time bye (RL is calling)
Torley Linden: Aimee: What's interesting is Shockwave Rider is by John Brunner, also an important cyberpunk text.
Chase Marellan: By Igel!
Torley Linden: What's relevant to me about Shockwave Rider is that it's based on Tofflerian ideas from the book Future Shock. I love that book.
Vivienne Graves: bye, Igel
Aimee Congrejo: Yah Torley...I just get my authors mixed up ^^
Torley Linden: =)
Torley Linden: Bye Igel!
Daedalus Young: is that The Sky was the Color of Television, Tuned to a Dead Channel?
Torley Linden: Thanks for coming!
Daedalus Young: Google says
Igel Hawks: Will be back at 2 PM
Torley Linden: Daedalus: Yeah, yours sounds closer than what I cobbled out.
Orzga Aabye: google is like that guy in snow crash .. collecting data
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
Torley Linden: Data junkies!
Torley Linden: Hard drives are getting so cheap.
Orzga Aabye: yeah . it was his job i think?
Torley Linden: Warren, that's a great coat, who made that?
Torley Linden: It's so awesome to have so many diverse avatars here.
Warren Flanagan: hmm let's see
Daedalus Young: you could use a Google backend for SL internal Search
Warren Flanagan: i searched for trenchcoat
Torley Linden: Daedalus: That seems like such a clear way to go, eh?
Warren Flanagan: it was one of the few links
Bart Heart: Tonk Tomcat
Daedalus Young: that would be cool
Shinee Jewell: Google would still need to access the db
Bart Heart: made his coat
Warren Flanagan: tonk tomcat appears to have made it
Torley Linden: Ah, cool, thanks Warren.
Warren Flanagan: np it's a cool look
Torley Linden: I get very curious about your fave places and things inworld... broadly speaking... always feel free to send me landmarks. =o)
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
Chase Marellan: Torley: do you have a list of your favorite places?
Torley Linden: Sorry you can't ride that car... it's perma-parked t here or something.
Aimee Congrejo: Torley...I always feel odd sending IMs or stuff to "famous" people in game...LOL
Chase Marellan: I'm always looking for places to show people who are new.
Torley Linden: Chase, I do over time... I usually blog about them...
Torley Linden: Awww Aimee, how comes?
Torley Linden: http://torley.com/category/inworld-exploring <-- stuff I like, not ALL of it but some.
Aimee Congrejo: Well...cuz they must already get so many IMs...I don't like being an anklebiter
Shinee Jewell: the Pedestal Syndrome
Torley Linden: I know Natalia Zelmanov also has a great list, Chase. http://slnatalia.blogspot.com/2006/11/siteseeing-and-exploring.html
Daedalus Young: I often browse your flickr pages, looking for cool places
Torley Linden: Sadly I get too many IMs to keep up and lose many IMs in the midst of my work, so I prefer email, but always nice to see you on Issue Tracker (PJIRA), Aimee.
Chase Marellan: That's what I'm looking for, thanks. :)
Torley Linden: You're welcome Chase!
Torley Linden: I like visuals, they help communicate what a place... actually is.
Chase Marellan: I'll take LM donations too, if anybody wants to send them. :)
Aimee Congrejo: ^^ Thankies Torley...
Torley Linden: Hehehe.
Torley Linden: Chase, have you already been to Greenies?
Torley Linden: Some Lindens went on a field trip there the other day.
Chase Marellan: No, I haven't
Torley Linden: Greenies Home Rezzable , surprise yourself.
Torley Linden: Hee hee.
Torley Linden: That's the name of the region.
Vivienne Graves: Gorgeous build
Chase Marellan: Will do, thanks!
Shinee Jewell: or the crooked house
Vivienne Graves: I went there last weekend
Torley Linden: I always like when someone can take an interest of theirs they might have not explored in years, and bring it inworld...
Daedalus Young: some people say it's made by Starax in disguise
Torley Linden: Crooked house is a lot of fun!
Vivienne Graves: stunning...possibly one of the best things I've seen in SL
Torley Linden: Ahhh art in our digital realm. :)
Chase Marellan: Now you're really making me curious. :)
Torley Linden: I like a lot of the odd stops...
Chase Marellan: I'll definitely head over after this. :)
Torley Linden: :D
Torley Linden: Hope you have fun there.
Torley Linden: I like things that play with your senses... optical illusions.
Chase Marellan: I'm sure I will. :)
Vivienne Graves: I'm surprised we haven't seen more Lovecraft-inspired builds
Orzga Aabye: will clouds be rezzable? in teh furutree
Vivienne Graves: subtly wrong angl;es and all of that
Daedalus Young: ah, on playing with senses, I started making 3D Photos in SL
Torley Linden: Hehehe.
Torley Linden: Rezzable clouds? I hope we get 3D clouds.
Torley Linden: (Nimble tech as part of WindLight...)
Vivienne Graves: Prim clouds seem kind of tricky though
Orzga Aabye: windlight does that .. righ?
Chase Marellan: Daedalus: Now THAT's a cool idea!
Daedalus Young: thanks
Torley Linden: First-round WindLight clouds aren't 3D, but hopefully future ones will be.
Tayste Waydelich: Volumetric prims would be so awesome.
Vivienne Graves: Considering that they'd count toward parcel or sim prim allotment
Torley Linden: 3D photos? Where they be at? :D
Torley Linden is curious to seee.
Daedalus Young: it's cool to see an SL image become true 3D
Shinee Jewell: some friend of mine have some for ale too
Daedalus Young: Ah, I still have them on my harddrive only
Shinee Jewell: *sale
Torley Linden: Ahh.
Kamael Xevious: Are those the ones like the Van Gogh? Cos that one effin' RAWKED.
Torley Linden: I like stereograms and anaglyphs and stuff.
Torley Linden: RAWKED!
Torley Linden: :D
Torley Linden: Oh my... I'd like to warmly thank each and all of you for being here with me at my Office Hour. I've got to go... but I will be back here at 2 PM PDT.
Aimee Congrejo: Torley...I don't want to hijack yer office hours, but I finally built my first SL object...a Katanakake for Jane's memorial...care to see? ^^
Torley Linden: Oh oh please do show!
Torley Linden: Do we have enough prims here?
Bau Ur: Alas! I just rrived. i will see you at 2.
Shinee Jewell: I'll send the lm
Shinee Jewell: gotta find it
Aimee Congrejo: Oooh...can't rez...region is full
Daedalus Young: 12 prims
Torley Linden: Ack sorry. :\ In the future I should rotate some stuff out with sculpties so they're less prims.
Orzga Aabye: wow ..
Daedalus Young: there's a cube underneath the build though
Daedalus Young: takes up one prim
Daedalus Young: doesn't appear to do anything
Torley Linden: Ahh stray cube. *deletes*
Torley Linden: That was for QA testing.
Daedalus Young: ah I see
Aimee Congrejo: NO worries...I'll send you a pic...
Aimee Congrejo: ^^
Torley Linden: Kk, thanx a lot.
Torley Linden: Bye for now... and t'care all!
Daedalus Young: bye Torley
Aimee Congrejo: Torley...a pleasure! Seeyas!
Orzga Aabye: aimee can you send an LM to me .. to see?
Vivienne Graves: bye, TOrley
Harleen Gretzky: bye Torley
Melanie774 Kidd: bye ^_^
Shinee Jewell: vendr far right I think
Shinee Jewell: thx Trley
Orzga Aabye: bye Torley .. always a big adventure ..
Torley Linden: *waves and smiles* =^_^=

2 PM

Torley Linden: OH HELLO!
Jezzy Ricardo: I was at the
Jezzy Ricardo: Torley!!!
Orzga Aabye: except pizza, which is eathen
Igel Hawks: Hi torley
Richard Renneville: hey torley
Marty Gausman: hi torley
Torley Linden: I... can't... see...
Minos Boa: but if there is an object no transfer... if return it... this object was erasered
Jezzy Ricardo: Watermelinden :D
Torley Linden: I'll just stand over here. (Stand!??)
Torley Linden: I was trapped in sculptie experiments...
Torley Linden: and I have ended up this way.
Marty Gausman: never saw a seeing watermelon lmao
Daedalus Young: hi Torley
Richard Renneville: I have to laugh at the crowd of protesters at Linden Village's gates
Torley Linden: Welcome all to my office!
Alexandra Rucker: guys, those signs are IN the building :P
Moonie Piek: look how popular you are Torley
Torley Linden: Ah, well, I should tell a story...
Torley Linden: do you know how I made some of my first Linden L$?
Moonie Piek: YEAH
Torley Linden: Take a wild guess. :)
Moonie Piek: you did a lot with casinos? right?
Daedalus Young: starts with a c and ends in asino
Harleen Gretzky: In a casino
Torley Linden: Hahaha yes.
Marty Gausman: u were an escort? ^^
Moonie Piek: wwaahahahaha
Torley Linden: Well, when I started Second Life...
Torley Linden: There was this place... Spittoonie Island...
Torley Linden: it had roulette... which I played a lot...
Torley Linden: And oh, there was Tony Tigereye's gaming too...
Torley Linden: That was a lot of fun.
Torley Linden: I reckon even in those days I made over L$250,000...
Igel Hawks: Hmm, so you have to gamble to become a Linden?
Jezzy Ricardo: Torley, You wearing a melon? lol
Moonie Piek: why are you incognito??
Torley Linden: I'm wearing a sculpted prim. I can change up later, but, I was debugging WindLight.
Igel Hawks: Not on the keyword list of chat yet
Torley Linden: But anyhoo... later on... I recognized that I have a serious gambling addiction.
Moonie Piek: I wanted a picture with you.....but now......lol
Torley Linden: So personally, I ended that, and went on to do some other things...
Torley Linden: I then earned L$ doing things like writing documentation and proofreading product manuals.
Rex Cronon: hello everybody
Torley Linden: Never an end to providing help that way!
Psyra Extraordinaire: I can hear Homer's voice now. "But yooooou have a gambling problem!"
Torley Linden: Yes... hey hey Psyra!
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
Blogland Oh: lol
Jezzy Ricardo: lol
Torley Linden: And all the neon signs coming by me...
Moonie Piek: hoi Martine haha
Torley Linden: and anyway, I understand protests, because I used to be involved in some myself.
Dweebs Dweebie: ;-)
Jezzy Ricardo: Hey Torley, Can I have a bear :P
Martine Ritt: hoi
Torley Linden: I used to set Telehubs on fire... for anyone who remembers those t hings.
Psyra Extraordinaire: =D
Torley Linden: Let me change my avatar...
Torley Linden: So I'm more pleasing in form.
Graciella Princess: hi torley. i'm sorry. ) i'm kind of distracted a bit...
Richard Renneville: yeah telehubs, they dont exist anymore really
Daedalus Young: I saw an old telehub lying at the bottom of the ocean
Moonie Piek: yeah so Ican take a picture with you and me
Moonie Piek: lol
Al Sonic: Ah. That's quite odd.
FlipTitle: To set a title: title <color name> <title text>
FlipTitle: To remove title: title off
FlipTitle: <color name> can be: white, black, red, green, blue, pink, cyan, purple, yellow, orange
Squirrel Wood: Teletubbies...
Torley Linden: Sure thing Moonie.
Torley Linden: While debugging, my screen gets full of windows...
Jezzy Ricardo: lol
Torley Linden: All sorts of buttons and things to press, stuff to try!
Torley Linden: :D
Moonie Piek: shoot lol
Daedalus Young: http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=191599
Ante Flan: I love that avatar, Torley
Torley Linden: Thanks Ante.
Richard Renneville: Torley, can you please answer my PM?
Torley Linden: (Sorry I can't get IMs right now, too much going on. :) )
Blogland Oh: you nearly look like a pokemon
Torley Linden: I also... used to be obsessed...
Torley Linden: with Pokemon...
Blogland Oh: HAHA
Jezzy Ricardo: lol
Ante Flan: who wasn't?
Torley Linden: And I saw this avatar for free on SL Exchange...
Orzga Aabye: so what if the nnumbers were psuedo random .. is that gampling ..
Blogland Oh: did you know all 151?
Moonie Piek: lol
Ante Flan: of course, I was, like, 12 at the time
Torley Linden: and I was like, "Gosh, I remember watching that show and collecting..."
Marty Gausman: torley, do u know why my ingame-vids vanish every time I stop recording?
Psyra Extraordinaire: Melonkip
Daedalus Young: well on gambling, the policy is now too grey imo
Torley Linden: Exactly. :)
Richard Renneville: well can you tell me which Linden to talk to if I get a box saying that I will be charged a $5 tier fee on purchasing a 512, if I do not already own a 512
Torley Linden: Marty, are you using the recorder from File menu? Sadly I reckon that is broken, at least for me it hasn't worked right.
Daedalus Young: Tetris uses RNG, but relies on user interaction
Jezzy Ricardo: Kind of looks like Pacman
Daedalus Young: but in the end, you're just lucky to get the right shape
Graciella Princess: the policiy is MUCH to grey, and frankly, i need to know who to talk to about it guys. do you have a legal department, torley?
Ante Flan: get fraps, it's much, much faster
Psyra Extraordinaire: It works but the video it spews out is really awful.
Torley Linden: Richard: Oh sounds like http://secondlife.com/support -- you should ask our Support Team. Or check your group land to make sure you haven't already donated tier.
Marty Gausman: yes, the ingame-recorder
Graciella Princess: because i need to get approval on smething
Daedalus Young: it's the legal department that blocks "Teen" from event listings
Richard Renneville: I looked up all my groups and they all say 0
Minos Boa: sorry... torley... it's good to remember the past... the beginning... but now... we prefer hear from linden lab... why this not correct behaviour against people that have put money in a project .... in a legal project ...
Torley Linden: I'm not a lawyer, I was more of a gambler, I turned and channeled my addictions into other pathways...
Torley Linden: Minos: Can you please clarify?
Jezzy Ricardo: Okay Torley nice seeing you but I have to get ready for dinner. Hope to see you soon :))
Torley Linden: Take care Jezzy.
Torley Linden: Richard: I'd definitely inquire with support then! They can help you with that and look that up.
Marty Gausman: so how did u make your tutorial-vids, torley?
Torley Linden: And for recording videos of Second Life I use FRAPS... it's simple and clean.
Torley Linden: And to edit them... I use Vegas Video.
Moonie Piek: yeah on utube
Torley Linden: Sony Vegas, specifically, and iMovie.
Daedalus Young: oh! a telehub avatar!
Igel Hawks: TC Jezzy
Marty Gausman: is fraps freeware?
Torley Linden: Vegas rules... it's got a very nice editing layout which is good if you're accustomed to mixing audio.
Richard Renneville: One of the places I host at, M&M Designs, has a game called Take It or Leave It, you ever hear of that?
Torley Linden: FRAPS has a trial but it's commercial software.
Torley Linden: I haven't Richard, sorry.
Ante Flan: I use Vegas, too
Torley Linden: Hey Bridie!
Richard Renneville: FRAPS is better then Camtasia for movie making
Psyra Extraordinaire: Fraps trial is usable but it's limited to 30-seconds bursts, and watermarks your video.
Torley Linden: Ante: I love how easy it is to drag and drop clips in Vegas.
Ante Flan: just released a video for my new waves
Bridie Linden: hey everyone!
Psyra Extraordinaire: Allooo Bridie. :>
Daedalus Young: hi Bridie
Torley Linden: Linden Lab has some company licenses for FRAPS so I just went with it...
Ante Flan: I love joystick flycam, and the 360 controller is perfect for it
Sophia Naumova: Hello, Bridie!
Graciella Princess: ms. torley, i don't wish to be rude honey. it's obvious this is a metting of some sort. i do need to know who to go to with my questions
Graciella Princess: hi bridie. :)
Harleen Gretzky: Hi Bridie
Richard Renneville: Torley, have you heard of Take It or Leave It yet?
Torley Linden: Call me silly but I couldn't figure the heck out of Adobe Premiere. I gave up and used Vegas instead. I hope that wasn't too dismissive of me.
Igel Hawks: Hi Bridie
Ante Flan: heh, same
Minos Boa: any law don't ...real or not.. have not a immediatly application... if people pay for open a legal place like a casinò... linden lab can't awake a day and say.. that all we are illegal ... and give no refunds... no answer.. and no time for organize..
Torley Linden: Graciella: Oh, the purposes of my meetings are detailed in the link in my profile. :)
Ante Flan: I used After Effects, though
Minos Boa: this is an abuse
Bridie Linden: Hi Harleen, Graciella, Igel
Moonie Piek: well at least I got my picture with Torley hehehhehe
Torley Linden: Linden Office Hours are listed @ https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Office_Hours
Torley Linden: =)
Ante Flan: I used that for effects and edited clips together in Vegas
Minos Boa: i think that this... is not a correct behaviuor
Graciella Princess: yes i know honey which is why i'm asking who to talk to about what i need to talk about honey. idont' wish to disturb your meeting any further.
Torley Linden: So while I apologize I can't tell you more about gambling -- the most I know is what our policy already says on the blog -- I'd recommend if you have a specific inquiry about your business, to contact our Support Team @ http://secondlife.com/support
Bridie Linden nods
Al Sonic: Well, it does seem true that any policy changes should have a specified... amount of time before enaction.
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/11786
Torley Linden: My specialties are in other areas... I can tell you a lot about WindLight or today's sculpties adventures. :D
Richard Renneville: My question is how do they catagorize games like Take It or Leave It that dont have pots
Torley Linden: Oh Bridie I gotta tell you, I was playing with SnurbO'Matic, after initial setup it was pretty easy.
Graciella Princess: i feel sorry for all the eople that bought their eqipment two days before the new rule. *sighs*
Orzga Aabye: the rules seem pretty clear
Squirrel Wood: Anyone here to protest against SL banning gambling... You are barking up the wrong tree here. Robin Linden is the Linden to talk to. She holds office hours every tuesday at 11AM PDT at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ambleside/88/30/26/?title=Linden%20Village ^^
Bridie Linden: What's that Torley?
Torley Linden: Richard: I can't give legal advice on that, sorry. I simply don't know.
Torley Linden: Bridie, it's an inworld sculptie editor.
Torley Linden: Thanks Squirrel.
Rammstig Cummings: Does anyone have any vaseline? I seem to be out and am beginning to be in dire need of it.
Bridie Linden: COOL!
Orzga Aabye: you might use something other than L$ for payoffs.
Rex Cronon: based on what it says on the blog should be still OK for people to for example play poker, as long as they don't play it with $L
Torley Linden: Bridie, it's on the http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Sculpted_Prims:_Resident-made_Tools list...
Igel Hawks: Hm, ok torley something completely different: Is there aan "official" translation from LL of your Blogpostings?
Richard Renneville: Im not complaining about the rule, in fact I think those protestors are wasting their time
Moonie Piek: how about you come in places and just take / delete the slotmachines and other casino stuff?
Bridie Linden: * looks *
Torley Linden: Igel: Hmmm... translation into other languages?
Igel Hawks: Yeah
Torley Linden: Ah great question. I was just talking about that with Jaime and Cornelius the other day.
Moonie Piek: is that just a story?
Igel Hawks: I was asked by some users to translate
Torley Linden: It's very important in the future, to translate our blog into non-English...
Torley Linden: there is a project underway to internationalize it further...
Graciella Princess: we may not be wasting our time after all. i just need clarification. *grins*
Torley Linden: But it hasn't happened yet. It's "in the works" tho!
Moonie Piek: and only on blog is too less !
Torley Linden: I intend to blog, ah, pretty much weekly. At least.
Igel Hawks: because I translate all the technical blog entris for a German community website
Torley Linden: All sorts of things I get asked over time that I like to share, helpful hints and other creative stuff.
Torley Linden: Igel: Ooh! That's cool to hear.
Richard Renneville: yeah cause we are getting more and more dutch and german speakers in this game
Torley Linden: I love how worldwide Second Life has gotten... I just wish I could speak more languages.
Creta Loon: a part the fact that is not your own competence... you are a Linden... you dont think you have to do something against this attack to freedom in sl Torley?
Richard Renneville: and we need to translate blog entries for them
Torley Linden: It's simply amazing to have so many people in different tongues coming in here and participating, and cultural takes on how to use the tools, socialize, and so much more. So very rich.
Rex Cronon: why has it become so hard to tp to other sims:(
Les Korda: hi
Torley Linden: Creta: Ah, Lindens each do different things. I can tell you a lot about my specialties but some stuff, I just don't know, and wish I could help more there.
Igel Hawks: I just keep the not English speaking Residents up to date about Downtimes, issues or policy changes :-)
Orzga Aabye: one web one world :-)
Minos Boa: torley ... bridie... are you agree with this law ?
Torley Linden: Bridie here is my dyanmic duo collaborator on various development projects!
Creta Loon: you dont have your own opinion?
Moonie Piek: 2 hrs ago, all sims where wer were protesting were being restart every 10 minutes !!
Al Sonic: Rex, I think that has something to do with the rolling restart junk.
Torley Linden: We're part of Studio Blacklight, focusing on technical bugs that need to be fixed.
turtle sign: Hello, Avatar!
Torley Linden: Creta: Me? About gambling? Not anymore. I quit because gambling was destructive to me, personally.
Torley Linden: That is my personal opinion.
Wyn Galbraith: It doesn't matter if one agrees with a law. It is a law and has to be obeyed.
Orzga Aabye: so you debug code, torley?
Torley Linden: I have a tendency to get addicted to stuff, so I ended up channeling it into art.
Richard Renneville: on the bug fixing note, I noticed that the group chat bug is back
Bridie Linden: *grins*
Creta Loon: so you agree
Minos Boa: so you are agree ?
Marty Gausman: do u know if there will be a bugfix for the ingame video-recorder?
turtle sign: Touched.
Torley Linden: I don't agree or disagree, I simply don't know, and in absence of such knowledge, I go with our policy -- from Lindens who know better than I.
Moonie Piek: oh please stop the particles !!
Minos Boa: SECOND LIFE IS A 3D ONLINE DIGITAL WORLD IMAGINED, CREATED & OWNED BY ITS RESIDENTS...
Torley Linden: WHOA TRANSITIONS!
Torley Linden: That's crazy!
Graciella Princess: the thing is,the us law states that 'penny poker' which is essentially what we do here, IS legal. :)
Minos Boa: this is not true
Creta Loon: you dont think that is better that every people do his own choise?
Wyn Galbraith: If a company operates in a country usually they have to obey the laws of that country. To disobey is to be shut down forever. No SL no nothing.
Torley Linden: Richard: We definitely want to improve group chat in the future, yes... those bugs are definitely still present...
Creta Loon: you have gamble... and than you have stopped
Moonie Piek: and how about the first slot machine, created by Philip LInden? looooooool
Squirrel Wood: Linden Labs is a US based company. The US of A banned online gambling. Thus, LL has to obey to the US laws. No gambling. You can protest all you want but it will not change anything about the decision that had to be made.
Minos Boa: this false law is against of philosophy of sl
Torley Linden: Bridie and I met the other week with Donovan, who knows a lot about presence and had some ideas about scaling communication.
Creta Loon: you have had the choice
Bridie Linden: I agree w/what Torley said -- and I also am trying to listen/observe what's going on in-world...
Orzga Aabye: the protocol will be opened, someday , and alt providers will take up the dempand .
Rex Cronon: so, is this how the sl Dark Age has started? no tp, no gambling, no fighting games? or are there worst things to com:(
Richard Renneville: well, for a couple weeks I didnt have them, yet today it resurfaced
Al Sonic: It might be out of the Lindens' hands whether or not we can have casinoes.
Wyn Galbraith: It doesn't matter if you agree or not. It is the law and until that law is changed it must be obeyed.
Torley Linden: If you want to protest government laws too, I suggest letting the government know. :o)
Graciella Princess: how about the part of the website which listed as a business to open, opening a casino. this was not changed until AFTER this new ban was opened. :)
Wyn Galbraith: It is out of LL's hands.
Richard Renneville: it stoppped after I did a total cleaning of my system of any SL stuff, then did a fresh reinstall
Psyra Extraordinaire: The basic fact is that iut doesn't matter what anyone's personal opinion is, if you don't like the decision the only real protest is with the US Government, not with anyone here at LL. :D
Graciella Princess: i'm not protesting the government law honey. we KNOW the government law. *grins*
Torley Linden: Note how historically, I protested in events I knew LL could do something about.
Creta Loon: i am not american... i dont want to stay under US laws
Blogland Oh: torley have you ever photoshopped your face in SL?
Creta Loon: this is not right
Al Sonic: o.0
Torley Linden: Blogland: Haha, like made a skin?
Torley Linden: SOMETHING CREEPY??
Richard Renneville: go after Bush
Torley Linden: <.<
Graciella Princess: this IS something they can do something about.
Richard Renneville: not Linden
Blogland Oh: yeaha!
Orzga Aabye: hmm.. this _is_ a hot topic
Graciella Princess: even robin linden said this was a BUSINESS decision having NOTHING to do with law!
Rammstig Cummings: I have a problem...I went to the grocery store, and tried to pay for my purchase with linden dollars...for some reason they wouldn't take it....what do i need to do about that??
Torley Linden: I haven't yet, but that would be kinda freaky, I have a male avatar who looks close to me RL.
Wyn Galbraith: That's not something LL can deal with or anyone in the states can deal with.
Minos Boa: help us against this false law
Blogland Oh: I tried it turned out weird
Richard Renneville: lol ramm
Moonie Piek shouts: Heya RobbyFox !!
Graciella Princess: Robin Linden, senior vice president for community told Reuters in an email: “There was no precipitating event or investigation that led to this decision. It was a business decision.” http://secondlife.reuters.com/stories/2007/07/26/linden-lab-outlaws-second-life-gambling/
Minos Boa: your opinion is more important than us
Creta Loon: BUSINESS LAWS
turtle sign: Hello, Avatar!
Torley Linden: Rammstig: I suggest using the Lindex exchange so L$ -> US$. :)
Torley Linden: Ahhh okay, okay -- well I know some of you are very upset with this. :(
Minos Boa: exactly... graciella ;)
Alexandra Rucker: "Business" has been used to justify all kinds of things, waving THAT around won't help :P
Torley Linden: It's certainly strange for me, having been a gambler.
Graciella Princess: which we KNOW the business laws inside and out creata. i suggest everyone read up on the laws themselves. :D
Minos Boa: this is a BUSINESS law
Torley Linden: But, I can't do more to help.
Richard Renneville: hey Torley, isnt that going to very soon be the only way to get Lindens?
Torley Linden: So I'm afraid that protesting here is not going to do much, as opposed to, say, letting Bridie and I know about some hot bugs with solid repros. :)
Wyn Galbraith: Ok, what about this... LL disobeys the law. The US gov closes them down. All the servers running SecondLife go dark. Then where would you be?
Al Sonic: I don't think Torley can have any effect you'd like here guys, okay?
Rammstig Cummings: i DID try to get the grocery store to make an av so that i could pay them, but they wouldn't hear me out either
Bridie Linden nods
Rex Cronon: as casinos exist in RL, there MUST be a legal way to exist in SL!
Torley Linden: I've seen protests like this time and time again. It's great you care, and great that you're using Second Life to voice yourselves... but like to focus on actionables, where I know next steps can be done.
Richard Renneville: So will you guys please take your stupid signs back to the picket line!
Minos Boa: KEEP SL GAMING LEGAL... OR WE WILL LEAVE SL !
Wyn Galbraith: You want to make a change? Go change the laws.
Graciella Princess: lindens themselves said we are welcome to protest anywhere in sl that is public.
Torley Linden: I'm afraid I don't have any say or power in that matter.
Wyn Galbraith: Go change the laws.
Orzga Aabye: find a way to tax it and it will be legal..
Creta Loon: it's very sad the behavior of LInden Lab whit the sl resident.... WE ARE SL
Graciella Princess: if you want a private meeting, then set it to private honey
Richard Renneville: sorry if I offended you by that outburst torley
Psyra Extraordinaire drops the subject. Either way I'm *for* the gambling eradication. I never did it, and I'm not officially for or against, but as someone that knows that some casino operators were less than honest, I consider it an honest blow against people that would leach off newbies. Th'end. :D
Wyn Galbraith: Go change the laws. Honey.
Torley Linden: If you care about Second Life, then you also care about helping us fix bugs -- because I know we get a lot of complaints about that. :)
Ante Flan: I like turtles!
Les Korda: HOW DO I GET A PRIVETE MEETING?
Torley Linden: I WAS HUGGING A SCULPTY TURTLE EARLIER TODAY
Moonie Piek: so I can play poker in private with my 1000 friends out my friendslist?
Marty Gausman: fix the video-recorder, torley ^^
Blogland Oh: teenage mutant hero turtles?
Torley Linden: Proof -- http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/920224642/
Ante Flan: THAT'S AWESOME
Richard Renneville shouts: Having these picket signs here is doing nothing more then disturbing the peace
Ante Flan: let's talk about turtles
Blogland Oh: :D
Creta Loon: KEEP SL GAMING LEGAL
Minos Boa shouts: KEEP SL GAMING LEGAL... OR WE WILL LEAVE SL !
Blogland Oh: lol!
Orzga Aabye: the green sliders have salmonella, so carefull
Torley Linden: Marty: I'm not sure when that'll be fixed, but if you enter an issue on the Issue Tracker @ http://jira.secondlife.com and get people to vote... it can gain traction.
Wyn Galbraith: I have two new turtles in my RL pond.
Al Sonic: =D I like those turtles.
Wyn Galbraith: LEAVE!
Minos Boa: we have right to receive an answer...
Graciella Princess: we'll leave when we have answers. real answers. :)
Minos Boa: KEEP SL GAMING LEGAL... OR WE WILL LEAVE SL !
Torley Linden: Oh gosh I'd hate to see you guys go, but y'know, there's a lot to do in Second Life... it's not just about gambling.
Marty Gausman: or do u know any freeware-recorders?
Wyn Galbraith: Please leave.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Now now, we don't need to shout back.
Torley Linden: I've had so much fun learning sculpted prims today.
Richard Renneville: sorry torley, its just annoying to see these signs and these idiots who lived in a casino
Les Korda: were does most the money come from?
Torley Linden: SCULPTED PRIMS ROCK!
Psyra Extraordinaire: YES
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/11804
Wyn Galbraith: Go change the laws.
Ante Flan: yes, they do
Igel Hawks: Minos, you will not get an answer here
Psyra Extraordinaire: VERY MUCH SO ^^
Les Korda: so if we leave so prob will sl
Graciella Princess: it's funny cause we aren't the ones shouting.
Moonie Piek: no it is about FUN and POKER IS FUN
Bridie Linden: turtles rock!
Orzga Aabye: this is a bit surreal
Ante Flan: I've been super busy on SL since they were released. I love them
Torley Linden: I WAS AT AVARIA... AND OMG... WINDLIGHT LOOKS BEAUTIUL THERE! I wore my sculptie turtle and walked around.
Creta Loon: THATS NOT THE PROBLEM... WHATS NEXT... MAYBE SOMETHING THAT INTEREST YOU
Igel Hawks: LOL
Graciella Princess: the laws don't need to be changed Wyn. we were legal. :) we will be when we open back up too. :)
Marty Gausman: and poker's not about luck, it's about skills
Psyra Extraordinaire: I wonder why people that want ganbling so much don't just sign up at www.pogo.com :D
Paradox Amat: ma nn vedete che vc piglia epr il culo?
Paradox Amat: ahahahhahahaa
Torley Linden: This is completely, utterly surreal.
Psyra Extraordinaire: it's honest and legit. ^^
Orzga Aabye: gambling turtles use sculy toothbrush to picket washing.
Paradox Amat: cioè bo chiedete risposta a un anguria
Al Sonic: I wonder what the result would be if SL were to hold a vote... of course a vote would be limited to properly registered residents...
Paradox Amat: ahahahhahaha
Richard Renneville: Do you know torley when Windlight will be available to the public
Igel Hawks: I just started a bit with sculpties, but I am amazed
Paradox Amat: bo...
Les Korda: me to im from the uk, no gambling laws there
Minos Boa: WHAT IS THE NEXT THINGS !
Torley Linden: If someone told me as a kid I'd wind up doing this on the job, I would've laughed years ago. But it's incredible at the same time.
Graciella Princess: because this provided the interaction people want.
Torley Linden: YES! WindLight, we hope for, tentatively, within a month or so...
Igel Hawks: Prohibit Caps?
Graciella Princess: being able to almost see and talk to each other at the same time
Graciella Princess: :)
Psyra Extraordinaire: I've just started with sculpties, still waiting for a decent exporter for 3DS Max. Until then, playing with ScultpyPaint. :D
Wyn Galbraith: Good grief! I'm glad the casinos are gone!
Torley Linden: We haven't commited to a date on that, but as soon as we have hard release news, it'll be blogged.
Torley Linden: Count on that.
Richard Renneville: Hopefully it will run on my nVidia 7300 LE PCI card
Richard Renneville: PCI-E that is
Graciella Princess: we KNOW the laws. too bad you guys don't
Torley Linden: Bridie program manages and I product manage WindLight, so of course it's very close to our hearts.
Graciella Princess: :D
Orzga Aabye: and yes sculpties can't have holes
Bridie Linden nods
Igel Hawks: Oh, hope soon Torley
Wyn Galbraith: :P
Bridie Linden: We can't wait either!
Ante Flan: it should
Creta Loon: LINDEN LAB ABUSE OF SL RESIDENT
Minos Boa shouts: LINDEN LAB ABUSE OF SL RESIDENT !
Wyn Galbraith: Get a life.
Torley Linden: Bridie Linden's 1st inworld office hour w/WindLight (I took pictures): http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/sets/72157601007674640/
Minos Boa shouts: LINDEN LAB STEAL MONEY TO SL PEOPLE !!!
Rex Cronon: actually a sculpt can have 1 hole
Graciella Princess: see, this is my JOB. it is my job to make sure we remain completely legal, us laws, and abroad. :)
Orzga Aabye: a turtle doesn't have holes .. so a turtle can be a sculptie
Minos Boa: this is what happened!
Wyn Galbraith: Mute time.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Mute time....
Ante Flan: MORE TURTLES OR I LEAVE SL
Psyra Extraordinaire: Heheh jinx./
Orzga Aabye: can it have 1 hole?
Richard Renneville: exactly
Psyra Extraordinaire: TURTLES!
Blogland Oh: LOL!
Rammstig Cummings: can someone pass the popcorn
Torley Linden: TURTLES are CUTE. Sometimes.
Al Sonic: Okay now this feels... yeah that's about right Wyn.
Torley Linden: Gosh, what is this gonna look like 6 months from now?
Psyra Extraordinaire: Turtles must be the one avvie I *don't* have.
Igel Hawks: Popcorn has too much prims
Dweebs Dweebie: empty!
Bridie Linden: what's your favorite av Psyra?
Creta Loon: Ante... i hope tomorrow some laws will not erase your business
Igel Hawks: you have to build it with sculpties
Orzga Aabye: i suppose it can have 1 holes...
Psyra Extraordinaire: Hmmm, *mkaes a note to scult some turtle shells*
Torley Linden: I remember when I ran up to a Linden and asked, "Can we please destroy Telehubs? They suck and I abhor flying into scoop malls! No offense to Ryan and Eric Linden, they did great art on them!"
Minos Boa: LINDEN LAB ABUSE OF SL RESIDENT AND TURTLES !
Marty Gausman: gablers r cute too, or am I not cute? ^^
Wyn Galbraith: Torley, the best feature in SL is the Mute button.
Torley Linden: There is so much to do...
Rex Cronon: this is funny:)
Al Sonic: Yeah, back to the sculpties and windlight... that's gonna be beautiful.
Moonie Piek: Turtles are dull !!! lol
Psyra Extraordinaire: My favorite? Ah crap, I have no clue, too many to list. :D
Ante Flan: my business is legal in America, sorry
Torley Linden: Wyn: I worked with James to give usability suggestions on the Mute button!
Paradox Amat: YOU LOST A LOT OF MONY..YOU DON'W WANT THIS...SO CHANGE THIS POLICY EASY AND INDOLOR
Psyra Extraordinaire: But whatever it is, it's a bird. :D
Paradox Amat: :d
Rex Cronon: can everybody imagine when voice will be in full swing:)
Paradox Amat: PINGUIN ARE CUTIE SOMETIMES
Paradox Amat: AHAHAHAHA
Ante Flan: guys, I doubt they had a choice
Igel Hawks: LOL
Rex Cronon: it will be chaos:)
Marty Gausman: I saw a squirrel......
Torley Linden: Ahhh whenever I hear a feature mentioned, if I was involved with it in some way, or know someone who was, I feel very emotional.
Marty Gausman: it was doing like this!
Torley Linden: I have seen sculptie dolphins, but not penguins...
Torley Linden: has anyone made one?
Orzga Aabye: voice will make it a differnet sort of thing
Wyn Galbraith's mute list is growing.
Torley Linden: I wonder if Voice will be politer sometimes, or even crazier...
Paradox Amat: ehehe pinguins are superior
Graciella Princess: the answer to that is very dark and grim. sl gambling brings ina LOT of money for shopping, etc. :) it is a real commerce that will effect your economy
Daedalus Young: haven't seen
Ante Flan: I made a sculptie squirrel, that's it :P
Paradox Amat: ahahahhahah
Torley Linden: I guess I could get a Transformers voice box and declare...
Graciella Princess: even crazier sweetie.
Torley Linden: <insert bold Optimus quote here>
Orzga Aabye: i do't know if you can pile up like this in voice
Moonie Piek -Smacks Dat Ass-
Psyra Extraordinaire: Until I make something better, this is my fave. =D
Moonie Piek -Smacks Dat Ass-
Torley Linden: Ante: That was fun! I liked that, because the non-sculptie one was, what, 73 prims?
Richard Renneville: your mute list is not the only one growing
Dweebs Dweebie: hahahaha'
Graciella Princess: and we're trying to be polite here. as polite as we can. :)
Ante Flan: I LIKE TURTLES!
Torley Linden: (Sorry, I can't answer IMs right now, but you can email me after... too...)
Orzga Aabye: some one's got to patch a vocoder into the voide
Psyra Extraordinaire: Turtles, turtles, ha ha haaaaaa. ^^
Torley Linden: Turtle power!
Graciella Princess: of course, i could go and download firstlook real fast and have voice also
Lexxie Whitfield: sorry i'm late xD
Graciella Princess shrugs
Paradox Amat: o c'è un rapace
Moonie Piek -Smacks Dat Ass-
Paradox Amat: ahahahahha
Torley Linden: Well, I'm seriously amazed by what Qarl did with his sculptie turtle.
Paradox Amat: i like a birrrd
Ante Flan: speaking of turtles, I used to play at Extreme when I was newer
Torley Linden: You should all go to Q and get a free one...
Orzga Aabye: it's ok to be late, the turtle was late
Torley Linden: it's in his office.
Ante Flan: the free slots and stuff, so it wasn't gambling :P
Wyn Galbraith wears yet another outfit of Torley's textures.
Blogland Oh: HAHA
Torley Linden: http://www.qarl.com/qLab/?p=50 <-- sculptie tool!
Minos Boa: sculpted prims are the most important things now !??!!
Torley Linden: Wyn: Awww!
Ante Flan: they own a sim called turtle, I think
Graciella Princess: here's the thing guys, there was NO warning at all. a lot of people spent a lot of money the DAY of the ban! you guys can easily be held legally reponsible for that
Paradox Amat: ma questa v sta vendedno le sue sculture
Rex Cronon: the turtle is not free:(
Igel Hawks: yes minos
Paradox Amat: ahahaha ma che cavolo c fate qua? io bo...
Orzga Aabye is outfitted in torley as well
Creta Loon: SURE... OUR RIGHTS ARE NOTHING THAN SCULPTIES
Richard Renneville: Anyone else dare to complain about gambling
Graciella Princess: there could be actual legal ramifications
Ante Flan: FREE THE TURTLES
Wyn Galbraith: My neighbor said it was too 70s.
Minos Boa: there is a big problem about Linden Lab behaviuor !
Igel Hawks: right greta
Igel Hawks: *Creta
Al Sonic: Sculpted prims and windlight are the most important thing in meeting with Torley, that's all, okay?
Torley Linden: Well, our rights...
Torley Linden: when we talk about Second Life...
Torley Linden: we talk about creative expression...
Rammstig Cummings: no richard...not about gambling...i'm just here to try and get some vaseline
Ante Flan: I love sculpties and windlight
Creta Loon: ;)
Ante Flan: I love pretty things in SL
Ante Flan: I'm a horrible person
Torley Linden: the many, many times I've had people request "IMPORT MAYA MESHES!"...
Torley Linden: Sculpties gets us closer to that.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Ecch
Richard Renneville: ahh much quieter now
Torley Linden: If you remember back in 2003, 2004, 2005 even... and then, up to the present...
Psyra Extraordinaire: Meshes are also as huge as textures for them.
Igel Hawks: sure Torley thats true
Creta Loon: we all love pretty things in sl.... and also FREEDOM
Rex Cronon: u can import objects
Graciella Princess: i talked to one guy last night, the day before the ban he spent over 100k on tables, on slots, etc. just for his own little place.
Minos Boa: SECOND LIFE IS A 3D ONLINE DIGITAL WORLD IMAGINED, CREATED & OWNED BY ITS RESIDENTS
Blogland Oh: so MANY PEOPLE brain IMPLODING
Psyra Extraordinaire: so the time it takes to load textures? That's the time it'd take to load models. :D
Minos Boa: this is good
Alexandra Rucker: Maya's a pretty expensive program, though
Minos Boa: but it's not true !
Orzga Aabye: cna the gfx cards to the schulty stuff, or is it triangulated in software>
Rex Cronon: actually ll owns it
Orzga Aabye: in sl i love the people
Torley Linden: Yes, created = content creation is certainly a big part of Second Life.
Al Sonic: You can own a house but still have zoning restrictions...
Torley Linden: Alexandra: Exactly why we're seeing the fruits of free stuff like Sculptypaint.
Torley Linden: I really have been liking Sculptypaint...
Torley Linden: Just so easy to get started.
Graciella Princess: andyou can buy something one day and with NO warning at all, have it outlawed the next so that you can't use it.
Torley Linden: I'm always eager to hear more sculpty tips 'n' tricks of course.
RobbyFox Anzac: Torley Linden can we not make a diffrent grid "the gambeling grid" and you can go stright into the Secondlife gambeling grid ? and subscribe wich that money for subscriptions would go for taxes and SL would be safe?
Psyra Extraordinaire: It's great for making landscaping items, rocks, sticks, and... FLINT ARROWHEADS. :D
Ante Flan: I like some of the free sculptie tools better than maya for some things
Minos Boa shouts: LINDEN LAB STEAL MONEY TO SL PEOPLE !!!
Al Sonic: That's the only really really valid argument I've heard there, Graciella.
Rex Cronon: u know hot u can protect your sculpts from being stolen?
Paradox Amat: tortley
Torley Linden: RobbyFox: Well ya know, someday as a result of what's happening today, seeds planted in the present, we may have more open source servers... there are already some running experiments like the OpenSim project.
Paradox Amat: torley
Torley Linden: I leave this part of the future very, very open.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Something funny about wandering through a sandstone canyon and finding an arrowhead laying on the ground. Kinda like going back to Drumheller. :D
Paradox Amat: TORLEY
Daedalus Young: make them half transparent, right?
Ante Flan: LINDEN LAB STEAL LETTUCE TO TURTLE PEOPLE !!!
Paradox Amat: CAN I MAKE A QUESTION?!
Blogland Oh: do you have any sculptie tips and tricks you could inspire us with torley?
Paradox Amat: ANSWER
Torley Linden: Psyra: I went to Drumheller a LOT.
Torley Linden: I even had a fave ammonite fossil I bought by the roadside for Cdn$10.
Paradox Amat: YOU HAVE POWER IN LINDEN LAB OR YOU MAKE ONLY SCULPT?
Rammstig Cummings: always wondered, do LL employees receive their salary in lindens?
Psyra Extraordinaire: I was only an hour away. Curse our inability to go back in time.'
Torley Linden: Blogland: I'm just getting started with sculpties but they look wicked with the new WindLight glow + shiny.
Torley Linden: I definitely suggest trying Sculptypaint...
Igel Hawks: In sculpted Dollars?
Ante Flan: Torley is the awesome linden that shows off all of the pretty stuff
Psyra Extraordinaire: Well, except metaphorically speaking.
Al Sonic: Torley probably only has power where he has knowledge in.
Minos Boa: SCULPT ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN RESIDENT MONEY
Graciella Princess: guys, if any of you have the firstlook voice program, please log into it now. :)
RobbyFox Anzac: Hey Alexandra remember me =p ?
Blogland Oh: thanks I'll note it down
Minos Boa: LINDEN LAB STEAL MONEY TO SL PEOPLE !!!
Ante Flan: man...
Torley Linden: LL employees get paid in US$ or, other international currency (since there are many worldwide Lindens).
Igel Hawks: No thanks to voice
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
Alexandra Rucker: Robbyfox.... Um, maybe? Brain's a bit mush right now
Torley Linden: Minos: OK, could you please calm down some? It's really not helping. :)
Torley Linden: http://www.xs4all.nl/~elout/sculptpaint/
Psyra Extraordinaire: There's 30+ people here now, I'll pass on voice, I have less than 1fps as it is. :D
Rex Cronon: actaully i cam here because sandbox-weapon testing(SWT) and rausch are down. i hopped that torley could do something about it:(
Torley Linden: ^ Sculptypaint.
RobbyFox Anzac: Ahh me and chabe use to come to your club
Richard Renneville: I have him on mute torley
RobbyFox Anzac: Metamorphose
Blogland Oh: Yeah STFU or Troley will unleash his wrath lol
Minos Boa: i think that it's more important to solve this question
Blogland Oh: *Torley LOL
Creta Loon: all of you resident have to be scared by this behavior of LL... indipendent of the fact that you agree or not... it's sad...
Paradox Amat: HTIS IS A REUNION OR A ZOO?!
Paradox Amat: I'M CONFUSE
Minos Boa: this is an abuse
Richard Renneville: Id have ejected them already if I was Torley
Torley Linden: Well, let's see what happens in a few weeks, yes?
Alexandra Rucker: Robbyfox, my club? *confused*
Psyra Extraordinaire: It's a zoounion!
RobbyFox Anzac: The club I mean *^_^*
Paradox Amat: IT'S A MANICOMIO
Paradox Amat: NEURO
Torley Linden: Neuro, the Linden? :)
Torley Linden: He's a funny guy.
Graciella Princess: we are all remaining polite here. we want a niccepeaceful discussion with someone. since no one will talk to us, we have to come to you and somehow, get you guys to talk to us. :)
Paradox Amat: NO CRAZYHOSPITAL
Paradox Amat: AHAHA BRAINRECOVER
Graciella Princess: i'm sure everyone here can appreciate that. :)
Torley Linden: Oh gosh, I notice I banned my alt from my parcel.
Torley Linden: Why the heck...
Richard Renneville: lol
Daedalus Young: heehee
Torley Linden: I'm crazy like that.
Igel Hawks: ROFL
Wyn Galbraith: LOL@Torley!
Orzga Aabye: lol alt ... poor alt
Daedalus Young: was probably a test
Psyra Extraordinaire: Wasn't it a great man that said sometimes you have to get away from yourself.?
Wyn Galbraith: I almost didi that the other day.
Torley Linden: Yeah I bet, in one of my misadventures.
Al Sonic: Well some are polite... which is why I haven't muted Graciella yet.
Alexandra Rucker: Robbyfox, check your IM
Igel Hawks: The new land tool?
Graciella Princess: nice public area that linden labs already said we were free to protest in. thanks george linden! :)
Sophia Naumova: Torley, sculpties are all neat and fun, but I want to be able to continue playing slot machines since they are fun and a big part of Second Life to me.
Minos Boa: LINDEN LAB ABUSE OF SL RESIDENT !
Graciella Princess: thank you Al. i don't believe rudeness will get the attention we desire. :)
Blogland Oh: >.<
Torley Linden: OK Minos, pardon, that's really quite enough.
Rammstig Cummings: yes richard, which is why you probably aren't a linden...Torley herself has let us know that she had been involved in protesting a while back...so i'm sure she understands....it's just something that has to be done...i mean, I've got a slot machine BUILT by a linden...lol

Daedalus Young: yes, you want a discussion, that's fine, I'm here to talk too, you just shout out the same thing over again, that's no discussing
Torley Linden: Well, let me ask another funny question... food in a virtual world, you really can't eat it either... but people love to see what's familiar.
Al Sonic: Gambling has real world value... Escort is... pixels...
Ante Flan: LINDEN LAB STEAL LETTUCE FROM TURTLE PEOPLE !!

Al Sonic: *shrug*
Rex Cronon: actually i am not into gambling, but i respect others right to do it
Rammstig Cummings: if i live in Alabama, where ...um...vibrating pleasure machines are illegal....if i use one on sl, am i breaking the law?
Richard Renneville: pardon me if I am getting carried away torley but Im already sick of hearing it
Wyn Galbraith activates the mute button again.
Orzga Aabye: usually you build on a computer, the work of the builder and he world of the built are differnt
Orzga Aabye: its funny in Sl they are the same
Ante Flan: are virtual pleasure machines illegal?
Ante Flan: I somehow doubt it
Rammstig Cummings: in some states they are
Torley Linden: Oh one sec, pardon (whoa particles!) gotta set Stephany up for da blog.
Alexandra Rucker shuts off particles quick before crashing
Igel Hawks: Only if you use it Rammstig
RobbyFox Anzac: erm won't let me go home now.. ah NM after leaveing help islands the next sim = your home doh

Torley Linden: Wyn that clothes looks awesome on you. Thanks for using my texture.
Daedalus Young: anybody who muted me, say "aye"
Torley Linden: Haha.
Orzga Aabye: /stripes/
Richard Renneville: I have all the people who are bitching about gambling muted
Ante Flan: aye
Daedalus Young: ah, only one
Ante Flan: because I totally can't read what you're saying
Richard Renneville: youre not muted
Daedalus Young: good score, I had a bet on it
Rammstig Cummings: but what about vaseline? you didn't mute me richard, did ya....i'm not bitching about gambling, just want vaseline
Daedalus Young: won me L$10 :P
Torley Linden: This is the first time I've sat in the middle here...
Torley Linden: I'm moving my camera around...
Wyn Galbraith likes Torley in the middle.
Igel Hawks: LOL
Psyra Extraordinaire: D:
Torley Linden: Gosh, Ante really has a "I LIKE TURTLES" sign.
Wyn Galbraith: We could play spin the Torley!
Rex Cronon: u r the focus of everybodies attention:)
Ante Flan: yes, I do
Ante Flan: TURTLE RIGHTS
Torley Linden: That was one of my first joyful things in SL too, being able to upload a texture and know others were seeing it, because of the reactions they gave.
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
Daedalus Young: Wyn, can I place bets where the spinning stops?
Orzga Aabye: i'm curious how you made the textures
Graciella Princess: i guess to get people to talk to me, i'll have to tp in a LOT mroe people. :(
Orzga Aabye: they are so well layered
Orzga Aabye: like a canvas
Graciella Princess: i'd hate to do that
Torley Linden: Only if you bet in watermelon seeds, which are not re-deemable. Not even for food stamps (e.g., for more watermelons).
Harleen Gretzky: Hi MichaelFrancis
Wyn Galbraith: Oh what a beautiful dragon!
Torley Linden: Graceilla: You know, that'd just increase my traffic!
Psyra Extraordinaire: Well, you can plant the seeds.
Torley Linden: Hmmm.
Daedalus Young: I can grow more melons with the seeds though
Rammstig Cummings: i want to plant my seed
Wyn Galbraith: Sorry, got distrated.
Torley Linden: Psyra: D'oh, you've pointed out a loophole in my scheme. You too, Daedalus.
Wyn Galbraith: *distracted
Rex Cronon: gracilla i think this might not be the right way to get attention.
Torley Linden: Rammstig: I imagine you do!
Rammstig Cummings: haha
Daedalus Young: 512 sqm plot full of melons
Wyn Galbraith: Psyra you're gorgous.
Torley Linden: Sometimes in life, and Second Life, I wish I could help more with stuff. But I can't, so I apologize, and try to help with the stuff I can. :)
Graciella Princess: well honey, they won't TALk to us. that's all we want is for them to actually talk to us. :)
Psyra Extraordinaire: I heard it through the grapevine, turtles have been added to the To-Do list. :D
Torley Linden: All part of being human... or human-esque... or furry... or a giant mecha... or a melonkip.
Ante Flan: YES
Igel Hawks: You make me smile sometimes Torley and that helps a lot
Mefisto Runo: KEEP SL GAMING LEGAL
Graciella Princess: well then torley, find someone thatwill sit down and talk to me. all i want is a nice polite discussion honey
Torley Linden: Awww Igel. :D
Psyra Extraordinaire: KEEP SL TURTLES LEGAL
Torley Linden: Well I love to see smiles.
Wyn Galbraith: You know, I haven't seen any turtle avs.
Daedalus Young: Graciella, talking is fine, but once people start shouting random one-liners, that's hardly talking, is it?
Wyn Galbraith: What's the lilmit on th emute button.
Torley Linden: Wyn, hmmm well normal ban list is like 300...
Ante Flan: I LIKE TURTLES!
Torley Linden: I don't know what the limit on mute is tho.
Graciella Princess: i agree daedalus. :) i haven't started doing that, but once i tp people in.. well, i can't control how others speak.
Alexandra Rucker: torley, ban is different from mute, isn't it? :)

Psyra Extraordinaire: ack
Wyn Galbraith: Very cool, thanks Torley.
Orzga Aabye: this is so funny even my computer is laughing
Rex Cronon: if u want people to listen to u, u have to get a lot of residents to sign a letter. u have to contact a reporter from rl, u have to post a videos on youtube, and pictures on flicker, that would be some of the ways u could attract attention
Torley Linden: Oh wow, that is a big flexi-flag.
Ante Flan: ugh
Torley Linden: Well I'm glad you like flexi-prims. :D
Daedalus Young: that's what's stopped the discussion we started
Torley Linden: But could you please downsize that some? It's making hard for my other guests to see.
Wyn Galbraith mutes away!
Ante Flan: I think I almost crashed
Orzga Aabye: yay flexi;s!~
Wyn Galbraith giggles

Mefisto Runo: yes... but i like more answer than flexi prims
Blogland Oh: that baby laugh so creeps me out
Richard Renneville: I already muted these two new ones
Graciella Princess shouts: thank you!
Torley Linden: I'll have to turn no-build on... but hey, wouldn't it be weird if you learned how to build a flexi-flag from my video tutorial and then made that?
Blogland Oh: I find alot of torleys work inspirational too
Moonie Piek: thx Torley....and thx for the picture and smashing your ass
Torley Linden: Tools... we all have them here.
Blogland Oh: yeah you make alot of tutorials!
Torley Linden: You're welcome Moonie. :)
Moonie Piek -Smacks Dat Ass-
Torley Linden: I should make more in the future...
Moonie Piek: lol
Torley Linden: Haven't had much time lately.
Mefisto Runo: thanks torley for help
Torley Linden: But I do like to share stuff that made my SL easier.
Ante Flan: LL needs to STOP focusing on sculpies and melons and START focusing on TURTLES!
Blogland Oh: you're all heart helping others
Torley Linden: You're welcome!
Creta Loon: THANKS FOR YOUR INDIFFERENCE
Torley Linden: Ante: What about a compromise, salamanders?
Mefisto Runo shouts: thanks you very much for help resident against abuse of linden lab
Paradox Amat: TORLEY ...
Torley Linden: I hate to see people suffer unnecessarily.
Paradox Amat: YOU ARE NOT A GOOD PERSON
Paradox Amat: YOU CAN ANSWER ME
Blogland Oh: :D
Paradox Amat: IN IM?
Mefisto Runo shouts: THIS IS NOT CORRECT
Graciella Princess: come on guys. won't get anywhere if we don't remain calm, and polite. :) that is the way to open a dialogue which is what we want.
Ante Flan: we also need that reflective water to give the turtles a nice place to live
Igel Hawks: LMAO
Kelly Linden: Turtles bite though. And that can hurt a lot.
Mefisto Runo shouts: ABUSE
Orzga Aabye: but is he a good watermelon ...
Mefisto Runo: help us...
Torley Linden: I will try to be better. :) I am getting too many IMs right now, pardon. But re: casino questions, again -- I can't help you further, if you have a specific business concern, please write to http://secondlife.com/support
Al Sonic: Thanks Graciella.
Torley Linden: That is the right place. Not here.
Mefisto Runo: don't shut up us
Orzga Aabye: umm .. is this about the gambling thing?
Paradox Amat: LOOK ONE MOMENT ME
Paradox Amat: IT'S MUST
Creta Loon: THIS IS THE FUTURE OF SL
Creta Loon: IT HAVE TO INTEREST YOU
Creta Loon: AND ALSO ALL PEOPLE HERE
Graciella Princess: the right place for a protest is anywhere that is public where a linden happens to be. :)
Mefisto Runo shouts: WE LEAVE SL !
Psyra Extraordinaire: Anyways, under the graphics category, curious to know if you have used Virtual Painter 5 (comes in Standalone and PS/PSP plugin) by LiveCraft. :D
Blogland Oh: not really
Orzga Aabye: creta, actually this is being taken very seriously
Mefisto Runo: SL IS ONLY A GAME
Graciella Princess: how that protest is conducted however, is the key.
Alexandra Rucker: Mefisto, you can stop shouting, you're probably on all of our mute lists :P
Torley Linden: Oooh Psyra, I gotta check that out... hmmm that name sounds familiar...
Igel Hawks: Yes, pls do it
Torley Linden: LiveCraft, are they Japanese?
Orzga Aabye: but not by second life ...
Wyn Galbraith: Virtual Painter, who makes that?
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/11790
Orzga Aabye: because it needs to bo by policy people
Blogland Oh: to me SL is about focusing our visualizations and ambitions and engaging with others who share those
Psyra Extraordinaire: I just picked it up in a package deal. :D
Blogland Oh: why should gambling play such a big part?
Mefisto Runo: alexandra... you are watching while your right are fucking
Mefisto Runo: you know
Psyra Extraordinaire: http://www.virtualpainter5.com/
Mefisto Runo: this is a right of all residents
Torley Linden: Mefisto: That's really uncalled for.
Mefisto Runo: we pay for this
Wyn Galbraith: Find your mute button Orzga. Makes for a nicer experience
Mefisto Runo: linden lab... take money
Psyra Extraordinaire: I <3 the Gourache. :D
Igel Hawks: You are NOT forced to pay
Wyn Galbraith giggles
Alexandra Rucker: Mute is a wonderful thing :)
Richard Renneville: I did already on all of them
Graciella Princess: mystery honey, pushing people won't get attention. not the kind we want. please stop. and please, don't push me. *laughs*
Creta Loon: ALSO MEFISTO BANNED
Creta Loon: FASCIST
Blogland Oh: either way this is torleys spot and I thin k it's cruel how you persist in tormenting him when he has given lovingly given this time of which he can
Creta Loon: WE CANT SPEAK NOW
Igel Hawks: Keep your money and o
Ante Flan: wow, my brother works at Staples
Torley Linden: If you really want to gamble at something in Second Life, do something you've wanted to do since you were a child, a dream, a big dream, that hasn't come true yet -- see if you can manifest it here. Life has many risks, the reward is in evolving self-discovery, not repetitive routines. :)
Ante Flan: and he got a big chair for 3.50
Torley Linden: But that's just my take on it.
Graciella Princess: i'm not tormenting him hon. i'm asking valid questions in a polite manner. :)
Orzga Aabye: good idea.. mute mute mute ..
Al Sonic: Great point, Torley!
Creta Loon: THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM... THE PROBLEM IS FREEDOM
Ante Flan: some people left them there and the manager priced them at 3.50 because they weren't sold anymore
Graciella Princess: torley, my dream is operating a successful poker house
Graciella Princess: has been since i was a child
Rex Cronon: there might be people that dream of gambling:)
Graciella Princess: :)
Ante Flan: TURTLE FREEDOM
Creta Loon: FREEDOM TO CHOISE
Wyn Galbraith: Good point, Torley, it's what I'm here for.
Ante Flan: I'M PRO TURTLE CHOICE
Torley Linden: Rex: I dreamt of that before I recognized I was an addict. But then again, that's just my take on it. :)
Psyra Extraordinaire: http://www.virtualpainter5.com/vp5painters.html shows all the filters in effect. :D
Igel Hawks: and freedom to mute
Ante Flan: IT'S THEIR EGG
Graciella Princess: now you guys have banned that dream based on a misrepresented pont of law. one that you guys don't fully understand
Wyn Galbraith is pro-turtle too.
Richard Renneville: Im focusing on building houses, furniture, and tip jars
Paradox Amat: TURLEY PLEASE READ ME
Torley Linden: I sure would like to learn how to build better.
Paradox Amat: I MUST PAY FOR ANSWER?
Richard Renneville: those ways you can make money too
Graciella Princess: what i dont' get is why you guys didn't fully read the law to understand it better
Graciella Princess: as we have
Graciella Princess: we know the laws because it is our job to know them
Torley Linden: Paradox: What is even the question?
Graciella Princess: none of us want to go to jail either
Graciella Princess laughs
Creta Loon: I HOPE LL WILL NOT ERASE YOUR BUSINESS AND TREAD ON YOUR RIGHT ANTE
Torley Linden: I don't even understand what you are asking me that I can answer.
Graciella Princess: so why didn't you guys read the laws?
Whity Whitman shouts: THE PROBLEM IS NOW THE ECONOMY IN SL!!!!!
Torley Linden: If I can answer it, I'm more than happy to help. :o)
Creta Loon: YOU WILL jOKE LESS
Al Sonic: For an answer to your questions, ask the right Linden.
Creta Loon: WHIT TURTLE
Wyn Galbraith: Everytime yo mute someone there should be a gesture like putting your fingers in your ears and going 'lalalala can't hear you" :)
Paradox Amat: WHY YOU'VE BANNED MINOS BOA?
Graciella Princess: why don't you guys know the law? it is your jobs to also
Paradox Amat: HE HAVE ONLY SAY HIS IDEA
Richard Renneville: lmao wyn
Richard Renneville: my friend makes gestures, I will talk to him about making one
Ante Flan: so this really isn't going anywhere
Wyn Galbraith giggles
Ante Flan: but at least it's funny
Graciella Princess: he was banned paradox for being rude, and impolite, and harshly disruptive
Wyn Galbraith: I'll wear it.
Blogland Oh: toeley when you're not around Ive met quite a few others who come here looking for you who have talent too
Conover's SuperSmooth Flight-Helper 3.0a whispers: Max-Velocity now set to 30 M/s.
Conover's SuperSmooth Flight-Helper 3.0a whispers: Commands: /flyhelp to get documentation.
Ante Flan: so, windlight next month, huh? Awesome
Creta Loon: WHY YOU HAVE BANNED MINOS BOA... HE BELIEVES IN SL... AND PAY TO INCREASE THIS WORLD
Graciella Princess: there is a right way to protest and a wrong way hon
Torley Linden: Blogland: Oh, well I'll still hold office hours.
Blogland Oh: *torley wtf what's wrong with me tonight lol
Creta Loon: AND YOU BANNED HIM FOR ITS OPINION
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
Rex Cronon: hmm, i relly don't think that torley is the legal representative for ll. at most he can talk to other lindes of what u say about gambling
Blogland Oh: of course hehe
Torley Linden: I'm definitely not the legal representative.
Ante Flan: I wanted it for my wave machinima, but I couldn't find a compiler
Torley Linden: Again, feel free to ask me questions about my Office Hour topics. :)
Graciella Princess: he is still responsible for knowing the laws since he works for linden labs. :)
Torley Linden: They are listed https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Office_Hours
Al Sonic: *sigh* Many a citizen aflame.
Squirrel Wood: Anyone here to protest against SL banning gambling... You are barking up the wrong tree here. Robin Linden is the Linden to talk to. She holds office hours every tuesday at 11AM PDT at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ambleside/88/30/26/?title=Linden%20Village
Blogland Oh: I didnt mean that in disrespect to you, I just mean you have many people who look for you
Torley Linden: I am pretty easygoing about going off on tangents, but only when we can really further a discussion.
Ante Flan: actually, my birthday is on a Wednesday. I hope I get a good viewer update
Torley Linden: Blogland: I understand! =)
Blogland Oh: from song artists to artists
Torley Linden: I hope for a good viewer update too.
Blogland Oh: :D
Torley Linden: Thanks Squirrel.
Orzga Aabye: happy b-day!
Ante Flan: the 8th
Psyra Extraordinaire: Ironically I was awake and in SL at 6am and never thought to come here then, It was probably less crowded. :D
Paradox Amat: YOU PLAY WITH OUR LIFE...
MichaelFrancis Linden wants the viewer update to go well too
Psyra Extraordinaire: But then again, the world has timezones. :D
Paradox Amat: IT' POLICALLI CORRECT?
Ante Flan: I may either get a macbook pro or a sim
Rammstig Cummings: thanks squirrelwood...we're just practicing for tuesday...practice makes perfect, so they say :0)
Sophia Naumova: Torley, my client just crashed and my computer said that a display driver quite working. My computer has a Nvidia GeForce 7950GT overclocked graphics card. Do you know anything about how to fix it?
Torley Linden: 1.18.1 isn't too far from now. Everyday, good gosh, the things I see go on with our work that isn't spoken about to the public -- but so much bustling. That's why I like to share what we're up to.
Graciella Princess: no hon. we've been going everywhere at all times of day or night when a linden is scheduled to be on. :)
Ante Flan: I'm leaning toward macbook pro, but I'm kinda hoping all of these gambling sims are sold really cheap
Ante Flan: so I can make them pretty
Richard Renneville: Torley, do you know anything about what people like me do, take a cube, hollow it out, then cut it in half, to make a corner using one prim instead of two
Ante Flan: so they finally feel good about themselves
Igel Hawks: Ok, I have to leave now. Bye to all
Igel Hawks: and thanks Torley
Blogland Oh: bye Igel
Wyn Galbraith: I do that, Richard.
Blogland Oh: take care now
Torley Linden: Sophia: I don't know offhand, but Bridie holds weekly Viewer Crash triages in her office hours. If this is a reproducible bug (can be repeated reliably over and over) and other Residents are experiencing it too, I'd definitely put it on our Issue Tracker @ http://jira.secondlife.com
Al Sonic: Goodbye.
Daedalus Young: I think what the whole idea is, owning an online gaming operation without proper licensing would be illegal, and no states are currently granting online gaming licenses. so basically, any online gambling is illegal
Graciella Princess: Robin Linden, senior vice president for community told Reuters in an email: “There was no precipitating event or investigation that led to this decision. It was a business decision.”http://secondlife.reuters.com/stories/2007/07/26/linden-lab-outlaws-second-life-gambling/
Wyn Galbraith: There's a bug with the camera inside a cut prim though.
Torley Linden: Richard: I think I know what you mean.
Graciella Princess: nothing to do with law
Richard Renneville: problem with that is you get the nagging slants on the ends of the cut off parts
Creta Loon: MAGARI A QUELLA AMERICANA
Blogland Oh: do you have the latest driver from nvidia?
Bridie Linden: Yes, Sophia - please file a bug or look for a similiar one.
Daedalus Young: but I do still agree the current policy is too grey
Ante Flan: ugh.
Torley Linden: I should also mention Robin is my mentor, I admire her.
Wyn Galbraith halllows and cuts a lot.
Ante Flan: think about the TURTLES
Sophia Naumova: Thank you, Torley.
Torley Linden: Thanks Bridie. :)
Orzga Aabye: i hollow prims to thing sheets for jewlery
Psyra Extraordinaire: The turtles in SL are a protected species.
Torley Linden: I found out the latest NVIDIA drivers were released yesterday, 162.something
Torley Linden: And before that, it was like, 94.something
Alexandra Rucker: ooo, new drivers, that's good to know about
Psyra Extraordinaire: THey are not on the endangered list because a population explosion is expected to happen very soon. Wink wink.
Torley Linden: Good gosh, they sure went up version numbers. ;)
Blogland Oh: there's new one's!!?
Creta Loon: MAYBE TOMORROW TURTLES WILL BE ILLEGAL
Sophia Naumova: Nifty! I'll try downloading and installing them!
Ante Flan: OH GOD
Torley Linden: I've always wanted to ride a galapagos turtle in Second Life.
MichaelFrancis Linden checks to see if there's new Vista drivers
Creta Loon: DEAR ANTE
Ante Flan: NOT TURTLES
Blogland Oh: I better update mine vista didn't say anything
Creta Loon: YES TURTLES
Torley Linden: Not just one that glides across the surface, but I'm talking about, true... wobbly... motion... across the beach.
Ante Flan: cool, thanks. I'll upgrade before I go on vacation
Wyn Galbraith ponders making a Turtle AV
Psyra Extraordinaire: Wow, the statements coming out of these people are getting more and more childish. :D
Ante Flan: I think I'm on beta drivers right now
Richard Renneville: I still use XP, so I cant use Vista drivers yet
Al Sonic: Hey, now that's imagination, Torley.
Ante Flan: I'm on Vista
Wyn Galbraith: Hey MichaelFrancis, didn't see you there.
Orzga Aabye: just to let you know, the turtles thing is not really a coherent argument
Richard Renneville: hey micheal
Torley Linden: One of the wackiest first vehicles I ever rode in was that Spongebob hamburger thing.
Moonie Piek: I'm on COMMODORE 64
Sophia Naumova: I use Vista on my desktop and XP on my laptop.
Richard Renneville: lmao moonie
Moonie Piek: heheehee
Ante Flan: I remember that
Blogland Oh: photoshop on XP?
Moonie Piek: good old time lol
Torley Linden: I grew up on a Commodore 64.
Moonie Piek: lol
Torley Linden: Lots of nostalgia to indulge in here. :)
Richard Renneville: I grew up on Texas Instraments
Moonie Piek: summergames / wintergames !!!
Orzga Aabye: the mac book looks good but it has an Intel gfx chip ...
Blogland Oh: the legend of all systems lol
Torley Linden: The reason why I ask so much about our pasts sometimes, is how it informs who we are... gives us context to the road ahead...
Torley Linden: Yes, EPYX!
Moonie Piek: pinball
Orzga Aabye: i dontknwo that that means.. not a classic chip like nvidea or whatever
Torley Linden: I played Summer Games and Winter Games a *lot*... World Games, California Games...
Wyn Galbraith grew up.. well lets don't go there...
Richard Renneville: now if Texas Instraments went back to making PC's theyd kick ass
Ante Flan: hmm, maybe I'll come back to a first look windlight
Squirrel Wood: I have ruined many a joystick playing summer/winter games on em amiga ^^
Bridie Linden remembers her IT994A...
Torley Linden: Mmmmm WindLight.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inacanthochelysable (I made a new word!) rights of all members of the turtle family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.
Torley Linden: I <3 WindLight.
Richard Renneville: same here bridie
Moonie Piek: and let in on pause when I went to sleep and next day continuing with the ice skatiing on wintergames !
Torley Linden: That's a big word, Psyra.
Richard Renneville: my first ever gaming system
Ante Flan: that will be cool. I'll be taking a lot of pictures on vacation to make coral textures and stuff
Torley Linden: I don't know if I can spell that...
Bridie Linden: TI, that is Richard..
Torley Linden: Lemme try... inacanthochelysable.
Wyn Galbraith: LOL @ Psyra
Moonie Piek: sure
Wyn Galbraith giggles
Moonie Piek: lol
Ink Oh: Wish I had a turtle sign too - this is a good cause.
Ante Flan: and once they are ready to release, maybe I can do a machinima with them in windlight
Ante Flan: one sec, I'll send it to you
Richard Renneville: you and I need to talk to eachother sometime bridie
Torley Linden: I think it's incredible we can actually upload our own signs in here...
Torley Linden: without having to have them approved by a content board...
Daedalus Young: machinima with joystick flycam :)
Psyra Extraordinaire: Turtles in the Windlight. Sounds like a Sigourney Weaver movie.
Torley Linden: it's pretty spontaneous.
Moonie Piek: ahahahahah Psyra
Torley Linden: Psyra: Haha, that's like Gorillas in the Mist...
Torley Linden: wait, is that a real movie...
Torley Linden: @_@
Ante Flan: who wants a turtle sign?
Wyn Galbraith has seen turtle sign... "I have two turtles in my RL pond, they leave sign here and there... mostly in the water though.
Torley Linden: I saw a Xenomorph av in Second Life... well not just a single time, but I think sculpties would be great for those heads.
Torley Linden: Thanks for the sign.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Signs that it's time to scoop!
Torley Linden: I think it's pretty cool, learning building skills... even rudimentary ones...
Moonie Piek: turtles are dull........Donkey Kong rules !!!
Wyn Galbraith nods to Psyra.
Ante Flan: D:
Torley Linden: Donkey Kong and his barrels of f-f-fun?
Torley Linden: I like in Futurama, how Leela calls 'em "Kong Donkeys".
Wyn Galbraith loves building.
Ante Flan: are you allowed to take a stance on turtles, Torley?
Moonie Piek: hahaa
Daedalus Young: ack, I never got to the end of level 1 :\
Bridie Linden loves turles
Torley Linden: Ante: Yes, but it'd be baked in a half-shell.
Bridie Linden: er turtles
Ante Flan: have a sign
Wyn Galbraith: I tried to find an SL job building.
Torley Linden: <.<
Orzga Aabye: turtles should be free
Bridie Linden: Ty, Ante
Torley Linden: Psyra, by the way, I must say your avatar looks amazingly detailed from here.
Torley Linden: Wyn: And what happened?
Orzga Aabye: i think tortoises are protected in FL
Ante Flan: it may be a bit buggy. I don't script :P
Wyn Galbraith would do roads and bathrooms in SL.
Wyn Galbraith: Rest stops
Ante Flan: it's a popgun script with all of the gun stuff taken out
Richard Renneville: What SL needs is a bus system
Al Sonic giggles with delight at the change of subject.
Richard Renneville: for the northern continent
Torley Linden: Bus, eh? Public transit?
Torley Linden: Well, in Northern Continent (named Heterocera Atoll... TRIVIA!)...
Moonie Piek: well I had a good laugh when I watched your utube movies Torley
Torley Linden: we have a train line there.
Daedalus Young: there are "Metro" carriages floating over the Northern continent though
Rex Cronon: wyn, i think there is at least one group in sl that conects builders with those that need things build
Torley Linden: Moonie: What made you laugh so much?
Torley Linden: Like Daedalus said.
Moonie Piek: the way you explained the things
Moonie Piek: taadaa
Torley Linden: Those trains were setup awhile ago by Nigel Linden and Michael Linden I believe.
Richard Renneville: the southern continent doesnt even have roads
Torley Linden: Haha, yes, I love to explain and demystify stuff.
Wyn Galbraith: That would be fun. I road on the Green Tortoise in RL.
Psyra Extraordinaire: "Captain, by what does it mean 'exact change'?"
Daedalus Young: well and trains, the trains aren't always running though
Richard Renneville: Whats all the Protected Areas for
MichaelFrancis Linden would like to point out that he is NOT Michale Linden, but MichaelFrancis Linden.
Wyn Galbraith: Roads, Richard.
Daedalus Young: but the Metro system is quite new
Torley Linden: I think in part, the newer mainland doesn't have roads because people weren't using the space so much and, vehicles are hard to ride with region crossings. :\ But of course I'd like to see that improve.
Moonie Piek: yes a friend of mine makes trains also that ride on the lindenroad James Gill
Psyra Extraordinaire: That sounds very Quebecois. :D
Torley Linden: He is indeed MichaelFrancis Linden, the one and only!
Ante Flan: I finally released a video with joystick flycam. I love it
Torley Linden: Quebecois... now they have a great word for computer... "ordinateur"!
Torley Linden: GOSH Ante, where is it?
Torley Linden: I will watch it after work.
Graciella Princess: hi michaelfrancais. i hope you don't mind if i call you michael or mike. i'm gracie. :)
Richard Renneville: the top of the Great Wall is almost like a speedway
Graciella Princess: pleased that you could make it. :)
Wyn Galbraith: Wasn't MichaelFrancis an angel?
Ante Flan: lemme find it
Ante Flan: I'm antetfa on youtube, I think
Ante Flan: not sure :P
Torley Linden: Okeydokey...
Psyra Extraordinaire: Michael Linden was always... you know... all black and green, too. All the time. Wasn't much for innovative fashion.
Ante Flan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLOJEKEP1Tc
Daedalus Young: Torley, I have one more thing to show you today though
Graciella Princess: michael, i wish to open a healthy dialogue on the current state of affairs regarding the new bans honey. :)
Torley Linden: Psyra, wasn't that Jeff?
Daedalus Young: this morning I said I was doing stereo photos
Torley Linden: Michael had a large man with a Prisoner fez cap.
Torley Linden: Jeff has a "Matrix"-style avatar...
Torley Linden: Ah, Lindens and their avatars.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Bah, it's been too long. :D
Ante Flan: found a nice cover of "Flying" to use in the video
Psyra Extraordinaire: I should know that, I still have his calling card. :P
Richard Renneville: well when their office hours are over, you swear they all go back into hiding
Ante Flan: because I didn't want to risk using The Beatles and getting sued or something :P
Torley Linden: Ante, again, I gotta say, with your waves, you really tapped into something that became a Gridwide sensation...
Graciella Princess: they do richard. :) so we have to find them when we can
Torley Linden: Oh lovely, stereophoto! This is what you were telling me about, Daedalus? Thanks.
Ante Flan: yeah, SL needed waves, I thought
Daedalus Young: yes
Psyra Extraordinaire: Wave height, whitecaps!
Torley Linden: I'm often inworld under this or alts, testing bugs of various sorts at present, or exploring cool places after-hours.
Alexandra Rucker: I'm actually enjoying the multiple lindens that show up at each office hour - I get to add to my gallery faster :)
Ante Flan: would have been nice if other people would have made their own rather than copying mine :P
Wyn Galbraith: Thought SL was getting water with ripples.
Psyra Extraordinaire: RAPIDS.
Daedalus Young: on a prim, it has 2 sides, cross eyed viewing and parallel viewing
Wyn Galbraith: Big ripples are waves.
Orzga Aabye: on ante ,, y di the savew with the anitmated textures? ws that you?
Torley Linden: Alexandra, you should've been at Iridium's office hour earlier... or were you and did I not see ya?
Torley Linden: We had like, I swear, 8 Lindens.
Ante Flan: I did waves with animated textures, yeah
Alexandra Rucker: I missed it unfortunately :(
Moonie Piek: why didnt you call me Torley !!!!
Wyn Galbraith missed Iridium!?
Daedalus Young: heh, if not more
Al Sonic: Yeah, woulda made for better variety, Ante... among other things.
Ante Flan: my new ones use sculpted prims
Psyra Extraordinaire: They are not quite invisible, they're just not-where-you-are. :D
Orzga Aabye: that was brillaint!
Richard Renneville: they only there when you violate a rule lmao
Ante Flan: well, now I use a different method. Everyone else is using my old method, aside from those really expensive surfable waves
Alexandra Rucker: (finding a linden is like finding a cop - never when you need them? *ducks, grinning*)
Orzga Aabye: hmm .. ...
Ante Flan: which are pretty cool, but way overpriced
Psyra Extraordinaire: I know all your random hangouts .... before my CC mysteriously vanished on a dark and stormy night. :D
Torley Linden: Intriguing...
Torley Linden: I've seen some animated sculpty water from Zor Zeddmore too...
Torley Linden: really rad stuff, have any of you already seen that?
Wyn Galbraith saw those waves yesterday Ante.
Psyra Extraordinaire: ... Which is sayign a lot, there's never any storms in SL.
Ante Flan: you know what, I'm going to make sculpted turtles, I think
Psyra Extraordinaire: Awwww.
Wyn Galbraith: The rocks are wonderful.
Ante Flan: thanks
Orzga Aabye: animated scupted turtules
Torley Linden: :)
Augustus Machin: hi
Torley Linden: I have seen an animated calf!
Psyra Extraordinaire: Turtle avatars on this end. Already in the process of shellin' :D
Ante Flan: the last time I went to Grand Caymen, turtles hatched on the beach and walked out to sea
Torley Linden: It was pretty realistic-looking.
Ante Flan: it was pretty cool
Torley Linden: The most detailed I've seen so far.
Torley Linden: http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/810575937/
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
Wyn Galbraith: Those are some of the best waves so far.
Torley Linden: Disregard the origami-looking calf. That's premature rezzing.
Orzga Aabye: wow... ante .. that was lucky ..
Torley Linden: Wow, to watch turtles hatch!
Torley Linden: I'd love to see that.
Ante Flan: yeah
Ante Flan: it was pretty cool
Orzga Aabye: soemhting about not shinging any lights , right?
Al Sonic: Heh, origami indeed.
Torley Linden: I used to live on a lake where turtles would crawl up on the beach.
Orzga Aabye: or the turles dont woalk to the see... is that true?
Orzga Aabye: /walk to the sea/
Bau Ur: May I ask about the viewer, Torley?
Ante Flan: so with youtube, are the videos that are linked after the video is over stuff people watched after that video?
Torley Linden: Sur Bau, what's up?
Ante Flan: because I see Dr. Slump stuff on there, which I was watching, but has nothing to do with the video :P
Torley Linden: Ante: It's related videos, sorted by keywords and other kinds of relevance.
Torley Linden: So check the keywords...
Torley Linden: I wondered about that myself too.
Bau Ur: Is the upcoming viwer gong to have smoother sharper edges than the current one?
Ante Flan: I noticed this before
Ante Flan: I uploaded something and a bunch of youtube videos of SL raids I watched showed up
Bau Ur: I am tired of seeing sawtooth edges on prims.
Ante Flan: but it wasn't an SL video
Torley Linden: Bau: We don't want to radically change existing content so much, but sculpted prims can give you cubes with rounded corners and stuff.
Bau Ur: Also with the new viewer, will the seams of perfectly fittend prims be invisible at last?
Ante Flan: textures under 64x64 being uncompressed would be great
Torley Linden: Ante: Interesting... I wonder if it's taking new factors into consideration.
Ante Flan: I had some problems with sculpted planes due to compression
Torley Linden: And we can upload lossless PNGs into the viewer too now.
Psyra Extraordinaire: I've set antialiasing withmy video card's built in preferences and they *do* carry over into SL.
Torley Linden: Thanks to an open source patch contribution. :)
Psyra Extraordinaire: At least with a Geforce 6200
Orzga Aabye: compression on fhte texture map ante?
Ante Flan: I think 32x32 would work even better than 64x64 uncompressed
Torley Linden: Psyra: Yeah, I really recommend that... antialiasing = soooo smooth.
Ante Flan: yeah
Daedalus Young: another reason why I like "High-res Snapshots"
Ante Flan: yeah, SL looks pretty jagged without LL
Psyra Extraordinaire: They carry over in windowed mode but in fullscreen they don't. One would expect it would be the other way around.
Torley Linden: Although it isn't well known about, yeah -- what Daedalus said...
Daedalus Young: scale it back down and you have a nice OSA
Torley Linden: Antialiasing helps to really increase graphical quality. Turn on anisotropic filtering for crisper textures at angles too.
Bau Ur: In mean WInlight...is that viewer going to make rpom edges look less jagged, and make seams invisible?
Psyra Extraordinaire: I hope someday we get a less laginducing version of Reflective Surfaces back again. :D
Orzga Aabye: is that about anti-aliasing or the prim joins?
Torley Linden: Bau: Oh, well it certainly makes prims look less "flat" and more shadowed and realistic depending on light.
Psyra Extraordinaire: I still use the debug one, but it makes my machine gag. :D
Torley Linden: There will continue to be seams -- but, antialiasing improves that too, as we're mentioning.
Ante Flan: I think cubemaps would be just fine for shiny stuff
Ante Flan: it's kinda in the viewer now, but it's a bit bugged
Blogland Oh: I had to turn anti aliasing up and reduce some of the crisper settings of my 8800 just to run a dx9 game called Stalker
Torley Linden: The new shiny cube map is beautiful, so beautiful...
Torley Linden: still being improved.
Ante Flan: it looked great when it was working, though. Can't wait for them to put it in
Orzga Aabye: i am intrigued how LL does reflections .. they arepretty god
Torley Linden: Stalker, OMG... OMG... that name, it makes me think of the movie (which I haven't seen, but SUCH atmosphere...).
Ante Flan: the shine right now doesn't match things so well
Ante Flan: HL2 style cubemaps will be awesome
Psyra Extraordinaire: Stalker never worked for me properly, the sky had tearing and echoing so badly it was unplayable.
Torley Linden: Re: our reflection tech, I'd refer to Runitai Linden, he coded that, and ripple water...
Torley Linden: Ugh sucks to hear that Psyra.
Wyn Galbraith: LOL
Orzga Aabye: yesterday i noticed a floor that picked up on reflectson ..
Ante Flan: the ripple water is looking cool
Orzga Aabye: oh ..
Torley Linden: I haven't played a good game in a long time, but I really am fond of... what's it called... Dreamfall.
Orzga Aabye: Runitai Linden ..
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
Ante Flan: he sent me a pic of ripple water in the sim my beach is in
Torley Linden: Ragnar Tornquist is a superior storyteller with such wit and grace.
Wyn Galbraith: Dreamfall?
Orzga Aabye: thanks.
Torley Linden: Yes, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.
Wyn Galbraith: Oh, do tell, new or old?
Torley Linden: It has a lot of magic and great protagonists...
Torley Linden: Pretty new, 2006 I think?
Ante Flan: I saw some stuff on that. Looks pretty good
Psyra Extraordinaire: Not quite point and click, not quite Scott Adams style. :D
Wyn Galbraith: New to me, last game I played was one of the Myst ones.
Psyra Extraordinaire: It's a hybrid. :D
Wyn Galbraith: Not Uru
Torley Linden: http://www.dreamfall.com
Ante Flan: it's sold in a pack of PC games for women or something :P
Moonie Piek: I play Counter Strike....and I 'm a woman !!
Ante Flan: awesome
Torley Linden: Haha.
Moonie Piek: yeah
Orzga Aabye: cool
Wyn Galbraith knows and 80 year old man who loves Myst.
Ante Flan: my sister has always been into Nintendo games
Torley Linden: I am of course enamored with Myst.
Ante Flan: Nintendo games I buy, but still
Orzga Aabye: your husvband wyn?
Wyn Galbraith: Tried to get him in SL, his machine can't handle it.
Torley Linden: Such richness...
Wyn Galbraith: No no.
Bau Ur: Myst is lovely. I wish SL could look like Myst and Riven. Will it ever be possible?
Richard Renneville: hey kelly
Torley Linden: Heya Kelly!
Psyra Extraordinaire mostly is juggling SL and Lord of the Rings Online.
Wyn Galbraith has no husband.
Kelly Linden: hi
Harleen Gretzky: Hi Kelly :)
Moonie Piek: Hi Kelly
Richard Renneville: Kellys on the left side of my cam position lmao
Bau Ur: hi
Psyra Extraordinaire: SL can look like Myst or Riven, depending on where you go. :DS
Torley Linden: Bau: Getting closer... remember SL is realtime and the first Myst was a slide show, and subsequent installments got better.
Ante Flan: 'lo
Wyn Galbraith: Hello Kelly.
Daedalus Young: good texturing can do a lot to make things much better
Torley Linden: Texturing, baking in shadows and lights...
Daedalus Young: take a look at the train station in Zale, it's awesomely textured
Wyn Galbraith loved Myst and Riven.
Torley Linden: *makes a note of Zale*
Wyn Galbraith: What's the third one?
Torley Linden: Myst III: Exile?
Wyn Galbraith: oh pretty pretty Dreamfall.
Bau Ur: I don't undersand why edges in SL look so bad. I am really hoping it will improve.
Wyn Galbraith: That's it Exile.
Torley Linden: So, I don't think the IVth one had a title, but the V: Revelation.
Orzga Aabye: i love myst and riven too
Psyra Extraordinaire: What was the sim that used to be Higbee Protagonist's... argh, forgot,.
Torley Linden: Psyra: Kukumori or something... ?
Torley Linden: I know one of Higbee's was Amaterasu.
Orzga Aabye: i can't do other games ..
Torley Linden: Like the Japanese sun goddess.
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/11799
Wyn Galbraith: Uru I have, it's shrinkwrapped and hidden out in the studio somewhere.
Orzga Aabye: some i like
Psyra Extraordinaire: I think so.... I was thinking of another one tho.
Orzga Aabye: uru != mac .. so i'll sit it out
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: My panorama of Myst Online Uru in Second Life... http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/538101429/
Psyra Extraordinaire: or perhaps I'm thinking of old Telador Isle
Bau Ur: Is there a good ETA for the Winlight viewer yet?
Wyn Galbraith was doing online college when she got Uru and hid it from herself to keep from playing it instead of study.
Daedalus Young: also the region called Downtown looks great, I'd love to see it in WindLight :)
Torley Linden: Psyra: Ahh the Telador that became Myst Online Uru?
Kelly Linden: I have played myst 1 and 2 and 4 though I didn't get into 4 much. I think Zork Nemesis was better than all of em though. :p
Torley Linden: Daedalus: That's pretty promising, yeah... I've seen that.
Bau Ur: And will WIndlight wrok well with Mac?
Torley Linden: Bau: Ah you missed convo earlier, but depending on other factors, we hope ~within a month or so.
Ante Flan: I ran it on a mac
Wyn Galbraith remember Zork, but played Rogue more.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Hee. Oh, my names were wrong
Ante Flan: however, I have a macbook, no GPU
Psyra Extraordinaire: I was thinking Lauk's island.
Ante Flan: the clouds worked, but very, very slow
Torley Linden: WindLight works well so far (debugging continues...) if you're on a supported graphics card and rest of system.
Ante Flan: just like ripple water
Psyra Extraordinaire: before he had to sell it
Ante Flan: but with them off, it works fine
Richard Renneville: I just want Windlight to work with a dual core processor and an nVidia GeForce 7300 LE PCI-E w/512MB
Psyra Extraordinaire: Svarga.
Orzga Aabye: ahhh ... so it is a problem .. no GPU (ante)
Torley Linden: Psyra: OH! Svarga.
Torley Linden: Yes.
Ante Flan: I'm sure it'll work on macs with GPUs
Torley Linden: I think 7300 should be fine... I'm on 7800 GT.
Ante Flan: I'm probably getting a macbook pro. Those have 8600s, now
Torley Linden: 5600 or greater should be generally fine, depending on vertex shader support I reckon.
Richard Renneville: however SL doesnt recognize dual core yet
Ante Flan: I'm on an 8600gts
Orzga Aabye: besdies the magna carta, nothign has change life as much as the GPU
Al Sonic ponders... hm, no wonder SL is said not to have a real, unpredictable random number generator....
Laetizia Coronet: konnichiwa - hope I am not stepping on ppl :)
Bau Ur: I'm on a good 2006 Imac with upgraded graphics card; I play with the settings constantly, and SL still looks worse to me than it did in March.
Torley Linden: As Second Life adds more game-like features... they will take advantage of eye candy and other lushness you're used to from other forms of interactive entertainment.
Ink Oh: Zork was great, but you needed to upgrade your video card to play it well. 16x14 fonts instead of 8x8.
Torley Linden: I really liked Zork, but only played the text ver... OH I GET IT. Haha Ink, very funny.
Torley Linden: "A grue has eaten you," etc.
Psyra Extraordinaire: No, it doesn't.it is dark. You're likely to be eaten by a grue. :D
Bau Ur: Yeah, gotta watchout for gurres.
SuperDave Spearmann: I spent many hours playing Zork... lol
Bau Ur: grues.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Grue-sum./
Torley Linden: Ah dear, thanks for coming and visiting me at mah office hour... I've got to go for now... but I'll have Office Hours again next week, same time... 6 AM and 2 PM PDT. :)
Kelly Linden: zork nemesis was more like myst than the text games
Psyra Extraordinaire: Take care. :>
Richard Renneville: Torley, is there a team working on dual core processors
Squirrel Wood: ^^
Daedalus Young: thanks Torley
Ante Flan: later
Torley Linden: Thanks for keeping me company and being vibrant... conversation gotta flow like water...
Bau Ur: Thank you Torley.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Hi Kelly. You're late. :D
Orzga Aabye: thank yo Torley for spending time w/ me
Al Sonic: Seeya then Torley ^_^
Psyra Extraordinaire: Or I just didn't notice you in the crowd. :D
Wyn Galbraith loves text games, "Exercises the imagination more."
Richard Renneville: thanks torley
Harleen Gretzky: bye Torley :)
Kelly Linden: I was hiding psyra
Wyn Galbraith: Thanks Torley.
Bau Ur: Would someone mind staying for a bit and telling me what Torley said earlier about the Windlight viewer...
Richard Renneville: it calmed down after I ignored the gaming heads
Torley Linden: Richard: Not a specific team but Richard Linden has done some work to make Second Life more operating system-friendly... I know Steve has some interest in optimizing dual-core performance too; they'd know more about it than I, and our future directions.
Psyra Extraordinaire: Yeah, that's not changed since 2004.
Wyn Galbraith: B-bye!!! :D
Psyra Extraordinaire: :D
Ante Flan: man, are those people going to bug every linden like this?
Torley Linden: See ya... have a good one and a lovely weekend. =D I'll post transcript up on https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden later if you missed anything.
Ante Flan: I feel sorry for you guys
Wyn Galbraith: Ama Omega!
Squirrel Wood: /ao on
Torley Linden: Second Life goes on! *waves and smiles*
Graciella Princess: yes we are
Torley Linden: AMA OMEGA, THE LEGENDARY... CASINO KING!!!
Psyra Extraordinaire: Not every linden gets this level of attention. :D
GRIZZLY Fosse: Hi Timi
Orzga Aabye: bye !!!!
Orzga Aabye: k
Ante Flan: I should check out Waterhead. I bet it's full of them
Bau Ur: Oh Thank you Torley! I need the trancript.
Torley Linden: (WHO ROCKS AT TRINGO TOO I MIGHT ADD)
Torley Linden: ;)
